Someone on the last thread asked about examples deplorable sentiment shifting. This is just anecdotal and I don’t have any examples of actual abandonment, but I am seeing embarrassment that I didn’t see previously. For instance I have a Trump loving friend and her brother often makes positive statements about her pro-Trump Facebook posts. On her last post he responded positively but referred to Trump as a blustering big mouth. Similarly a Trump approving uncle this summer made a statement that he wished Trump would stop tweeting and keep his mouth shut.

Can we agree that if you post a link to something on this thread that it would be nice to write a few words about what it is? A lot of people are just skipping your posts otherwise.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 30, 2019 11:53 PM |
Doesn't bother me one way or the other. I can read the link preview most times and figure it out. If someone has their link previews turned off, it's no one else's responsibility to cater to anyone else's sensibilities.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 31, 2019 12:02 AM |
R15, why not just write a couple of words? It would literally take almost no effort. A lot of people have their previews turned off at work or in public.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday tweeted a fake image showing him putting a medal with a paw print around the neck of a dog used by U.S. special operations forces in the raid that killed Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in Syria. The president shared the altered image, which The Daily Wire tweeted the day before, after first revealing a declassified photo of the Belgian Malinois on Monday.

R16 sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. It depends on if I'm using a computer or phone. Some phone browsers make it difficult to type especially when it needs the end of the thread. Those that have their previews off can check later or in their phones or not at all.
President Donald Trump told attendees at a House Republican fundraising event that he didn’t believe first lady Melania Trump would cry for him if he ever got shot. According to Politico, Trump praised Rep. Trump also talked about Scalise’s wife, whom he said “cried her eyes out when I met her at the hospital that fateful day.” The president then added that, “I mean not many wives would react that way to tragedy, I know mine wouldn’t.”

You know. As I've been following this scandal of Trump and the Ukrainians, I was almost reassured to discover how many foreign policy professionals worked in the WH. People with credentials. Too often in the past, my impression is an almost deserted WH with few staff who knew what they were doing, and then, suddenly I learn about all these people from both the WH and the State department, and all my concerns about no one being in charge were dispelled.... a little. But now, we're seeing some of these same very competent people announce their resignations, and I get worried all over again, because now the WH really will be deserted and all the truly competent people will be gone.

The Hill: Trump slams 'witch hunt' after House impeachment vote
In a tweet sent immediately after the vote Thursday morning, Trump declared the impeachment probe "The Greatest Witch Hunt In American History" - echoing language he has often used to describe the impeachment inquiry and special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation before that.
White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, in a separate statement also issued moments after the vote, derided "Democrats' unhinged obsession with this illegitimate impeachment proceeding." She cast the inquiry as "fundamentally un-American" and argued that Democrats were wasting time on "a sham impeachment at the expense of the administration's policy priorities, like trade and border security."

Trump changes his residence to Floriduh:
"Changing his primary residence could carry significant tax implications for Mr. Trump, although how much is unclear without seeing his returns. But in changing his residence to Florida, he would most likely be avoiding New York State’s top tax rate of nearly 9 percent and New York City’s top rate of nearly 4 percent.
Leaving New York could also save money for Mr. Trump’s heirs at the time of his death. New York imposes a top estate tax rate of 16 percent for estates larger than $10.1 million.
In an article in the Florida Bar Journal in January 2019, three lawyers with Proskauer Rose wrote about the recent wave of people moving from New York to Florida in “large part” because of the repeal of the state and local tax deduction that was a byproduct of the tax bill that Mr. Trump signed into law in 2017."

Just remember. Every single thing that Trump, his people, and the Republicans in Congress say or do is designed to improve their standing with Republicans.
So we need to have an antidote for that the way we'd have one for snake bites. We haven't done nearly enough with Syria. Yes. Because Trump is getting impeached for violating the Constitution and the Laws of the land with the Ukrainian affair, but public sentiment will turn against him for Syria/Kurds.
and as a sidebar we need to exploit his disloyalty in terms of the relationship with Putin . Putin has not suffered nearly enough vis a vis his public image. That needs to change. Demonizing Putin should have been easy. I found it incredibly interesting that he started working on improving his world image almost 20 years ago.
The fact is the destabilization and the refugee crisis that is hitting Europe in waves was instigated and created largely by Putin in the Middle East. Every single time the news media covers the Syrians, or the refugees, they need to link it to Putin. He needs to have it round his neck just like "E-mails".
Erdogan has been an old whore with his hands down Putin's pants for years. So if I'm a Democratic consultant that's all on my to do list.

We need to drive the numbers down, so that every Republican in Congress knows it is hopeless.

That dinner Lindsey had with the Murdochs & Zuckerberg appears to have results.
Speaking now in Pendleton, South Carolina on response to the House' impeachment vote. www.facebook.com/fox…
In South Carolina:
Rep. Joe Cunningham (SC-01) released the following statement: "Today’s vote was not a judgment or conclusion on whether or not President Trump should be impeached. Instead, this vote brings much needed transparency into the process and makes sure the American people can see and hear the facts. There were two choices in this decision - to keep this investigation behind closed doors or bring it out into the open for the American people to see. I chose the latter. I refuse to prejudge the outcome of this investigation and will withhold judgment on whether the President should be impeached until hearing all the evidence. This process is too important to be conducted behind closed doors, and today’s vote helps bring these investigations into public view for the American people to see for themselves. As I have said from the beginning, I will not allow politics to play a role in my ultimate decision. I will follow the facts wherever they lead, keep an open mind, and do what is in the best interests of this country and the people of South Carolina."
In response to the statements from Democrats, SCGOP Spokesman Joe Jackson said: “Democrats like Joe Cunningham chose to side with Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff and the socialist squad over their constituents, and have officially committed political malpractice. Americans will remember how these Democrats chose to pursue division and investigation over progress and promises.”
So Trump fawner, Joe Jackson, like most Republicans, doesn't address or defends Trump's constitutional and other alleged legal violations, he focused on the "socialist squad". Weak and pathetic, but panders to the deplorable base.

It's important to Barr/Trump to convince the public that Russia did not hack our elections . That's part of why they're actively attempting to discredit the Inte agencies. That justifies Trump lifting the Obama Sanctions. It is at the top of Putin's to do list for Donald. I can't see our Intel agencies allowing that. I have to believe they'll fight back. I have this theory that a lot of FBI, Counter Intel, CIA, and international intel were waiting for Mueller. THey had hoped Mueller would"get" Trump. But Barr blocked that. So now that the Ukraine affair has cracked open, I have a feeling we will see a flood of information leaking out, and evidence galore. It wasn't just one phone call by Trump and a few meetings by Rudy. It is a pattern of behavior going back since Trump won the nomination. Manafort was Ukraine. Rudy i in a lot deeper than most people realize with Ukraine. Remember the threads to Turkey too. Flynn was all over Turkey. Thi is going to blow wide open and it involves our Intel community and our allies all over the world. The Independent broke this story and it will gain traction. It's corroboration of what Barr has been up to running around Europe.
It's important to Barr/Trump to convince the public that Russia did not hack our elections . That's part of why they're actively attempting to discredit the Inte agencies. That justifies Trump lifting the Obama Sanctions.
One British official with knowledge of Attorney General Bill Barr’s wish list presented to London commented that “it is like nothing we have come across before, they are basically asking, in quite robust terms, for help in doing a hatchet job on their own intelligence services”.
Interesting that Barr seeks help from the service which facilitated the Steele Dossier. Beyond shameless of course, and reeking of arrogant entitlement.
But it also reveals recklessness, even desperation - as though absolutely anything goes now, more than ever, as nemesis steadily looms.

And they are doing it in such a blatant manner. They angered a lot of people who have their own connections and circle of loyal friends. How on earth could they think that it would be kept a secret? Putin has a lot of people in his pocket, but not everybody.
There is no way Murdoch's media empire could sell the narrative to the public that the Bidens are corrupt, or the CIA and FBI are planning to destroy Trump any more. Is it just another distraction?
Would anyone believe Trump winning the 2020 election would be legit?

BuzzFeed releases the first installment of the Mueller Report's secret memos. They reveal, among other things, that Manafort was advising the Trump campaign up through the election -- long after he was "fired" -- and Manafort copies Hannity on campaign memos.

In a similar survey earlier this month, 49 percent said Trump should not be impeached and should remain in office.
A majority of respondents in the new poll – 53 percent – said they approve of the impeachment inquiry, which was launched by House Democrats amid revelations that Trump asked Ukraine to investigate Democratic White House hopeful Joe Biden and his son. Forty-four percent disapprove.
NBC News noted that the increase in support for Trump’s removal is seen mainly from Democrats and independents...."

I know the conventional wisdom is that the Republican Senators won't vote to remove Trump, but I think they will. If they don't vote to remove, they will be sending the message that it's okay for the President - any president, Democrat or Republican - to engage in self-dealing, just because he's the President. That message will get them slaughtered in the next round of elections. Instead, if they vote to remove Trump before Xmas, they'll have a year to repair the damage and close ranks around a new Republican candidate - whether it's Romney or someone else.

He was working with the Mercers and Cambridge Analytica with voter behavior data and social media. He opined about everything and I can see him now "schooling" Jared, who sat silent as a sphinx, with that smirk on his face....because Jared was privy to information Bannon was not privy to. Bannon tried hard to get into the inner circle, but his craziness and his complete lack of discretion blocked him. He had a big mouth. He was not loyal. GHe leaked and told tales out of school. So he wouldn't know anything about Russians. In fact, that comment tells me he knew the Russians were involved and he didn't want them stealing his thunder. In a way he's like Trump in that regard. He felt he deserved credit not the Russians. He's crazy.

If a Republican opposes Trump, and is seeking re-election, the RNC, controlled by Trump, will withhold distributing cash to his/her campaign, and solicit or support a pro-Trump primary challenger to the incumbent. Plus, Republican incumbents fear Trump calling them names, and then see Fox and other right-wing media going on the attack. Additionally, Trump's deplorable base remains at least a third of the electorate, and those numbers won't diminish, These spineless Republican politicians care first about being re-elected and keeping their cushy, lucrative gigs.

IMO the best strategy for the Democrats is to release the transcripts, and really work the media, then, just have a short time for the public part. Just the most incendiary testimony should be held in public, supported by all the transcripts. It has to pack a punch. Then call for the vote. They will need to do strong PR to make sure public opinion is with them.

From R344's article
According to Cockburn’s source about the seven whistleblowers, there’s more. [bold]It is that Kushner (allegedly) gave the green light to MBS to arrest the dissident journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, who was later murdered and dismembered in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. [/bold]A second source tells Cockburn that this is true and adds a crucial twist to the story. [bold]This source claims that Turkish intelligence obtained an intercept of the call between Kushner and MBS. And President Erdogan used it to get Trump to roll over and pull American troops out of northern Syria before the Turks invaded. [/bold]Cockburn hears that investigators for the House Intelligence Committee know this whole tale and the identities of some of the people telling it. Whether any of is true is another matter but Adam Schiff certainly seems to be smiling a lot these days.

So about half, or a little more, of the country wants him impeached AND removed according to multiple polls. He is historically unpopular, never breaking 50% approval. I didn't read the article, just the paragraph about Kushner. I would take it with a grain of salt. Kushner is undoubtedly a piece of shit, but this seems over the top. If any of the Dem candidates start calling for an investigation of Kushner/Trump over this and demand Turkey turn over evidence, Trump's supporters point and say, see this is normal behavior to ask a country to investigate a political rival who may have committed a crime. And if no evidence turns up, it minimizes what Trump actually did. I'm probably not expressing this well in the middle of the night, but it smells too convenient. Disinformation to distract.
And Adam Schiff would not be smiling about any of this. No prosecutor smiles over murder.

I would assume it's not true until there's an actual tape. How do you minimize Trump's crime of self-dealing? You accuse him of much, much worse.

As far as Turkey and the Kurds and Trump's phone call with Erdogan, IMO Erdogan probably told Trump that the invasion was on and he literally threatening conflict with a NATO ally. And Trump caved in because of PRessure from Putin who explain this was part of his agenda. It didn't require blackmailing about JAred. It was what we used to call "brinksmanship." On the eve of the invasion you inform your ally your getting ready to fuck them over and it is going down, and your ally, instead of pushing back, caves in because ...Putin.
Now, I believe Jared probably greenlit Khashoggi for arrest by MBS, not realizing he'd turn him into ground beef. MBS prolly cried in their private phone convo telling Jared he had no idea that his security people would get so crazy. But then the tapes came out and Jared said," Hey, you're my dude. We have bigger fish to fry. Don't worry about it..."Jared got played, and was too arrogant and stupid to admit it. OTOH, would Jared ever be complicit in a murder? Hey, I wouldn't put anything past him.

R372, coincidentally, I drove through the 14 freeway a couple days before the Tick fire went through there and one day after.
They had blocked off the far right lane with cones and the police were parked there. As I drove through, I saw why: the metal guardrail by the right side of the road was held up by wooden pickets which had burnt to stumps. The guardrail lay on the road, warped from the heat. The fire had come right up to the freeway’s edge. There was nothing to stop cars from going over the side, so they blocked off the lane. There was also some kind of big truck there with cones on it, which workmen were laying out. The hillside was blackened and burnt clean.
When I went there a few days before, it was miles of golden, dry grasses on the hills and canyons. There’s few properties right on the roadside, they’re mostly off on side roads somewhere. There’s no trees anywhere, it’s wild grasslands.
Every time I hear Trump describe this as “untended forests” I cringe. There are no trees. It’s all dead grass, and it went up like a torch. About the only thing you could do is send a bunch of goats out there to eat it. And they couldn’t eat it all, there’s miles of it. There’s nothing to sweep, and there’s probably rattlesnakes in it.
The golden, dry grass, has always been a natural feature of California. Here’s a typical picture of the open fields of California. The particular area where the Tick Fire was didn’t have trees like in the image (or greenery), but this is the type of landscape you see throughout the state, especially in the south.

There was a Letter to the Editor from Crazy Town in my local paper this morning that was straight out of the Faux News playbook, word for word. We are dealing with truly delusional, cruel, ignorant people. It's scary. They've been lied to by trump and cohorts for so long they blame liberals for all the crimes the right wing has committed and now they are gas lighting us.
Cut and pasted and link below:
Trump’s vindication
EDITOR: For three years, President Donald Trump has been dealing with misrepresentation and character assassination by the media, the deep state and the radical progressive component of the Democrat Party.
Democrats such as Al Green, Maxine Waters, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler have led the movement to impeach our president in the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives.
This anti-America movement has been complicated by two developments:
The investigation of Federal Intelligence and Surveillance Act court actions against the president and his administration soon to be concluded by Inspector General Michael Horowitz. The investigation probe by U.S. Attorney John Durham and Attorney General William Barr into the origins of the Mueller investigation, which has been expanded to an international level and upgraded to criminal inquiry.
These happenings favor all voters. Truth is an antiseptic that clarifies most things. Among those citizens who have every right to be concerned about imminent disclosures are Hillary Clinton, James Comey, John Brennan, James Clapper, Andrew McCabe, Bruce Ohr, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page.
Leading Democrats are starting damage control by accusing Trump of weaponizing government to target political opponents. Sorry, propaganda won’t work this time. Informed voters know better.

I think they're doing more than "counting on it." I think they will do anything they can....anything...to make sure he wins. So we can't afford to "be nice." And take the high road. We need to be tough and push back every single time. No free passes. That's the one thing I fault the Democrats in the House for. They are too high minded. No way should those members of Congress who broke the rules and brought their cell phones into the SCIFF be allowed to remain unpunished. They need to be fined, sanctioned penalized. That is my credo. Swift reprisals. Consequences.
If your state legislature or Secretary of State elections commissions are trying to fuck with voters, go after them now. Yes. Use a fucking cannon, don't just be "alarmed." Take them to court, camp out in their offices, follow them home, bother them in supermarkets churches restaurants. Demand accountability. Go to any event they're scheduled to appear, even a fucking parade, and RAISE HELL.

Appeals courts usually have 3-5 judges reviewing a case. So if they rule against Trump on appeal, under normal circumstances such things are rejected by SCOTUS by not even granting them cert. But Trump believes he controls the court and owns the judges. So we'll see. Robert, as a Conservative Justice ought to simply let the Appeals decision stand and reject the case. But will he?

I think Republicans KNOW for sure:
1. That they can steal any close election again or nullify a win with chaos (the most likely scenario).
2. That they are morally superior and have God "on their side" so rules don't apply.
3. That they can lie, cheat, steal, kill or any other "sin" because they're battling evil baby killers.
4. That they only need to get away with it 1 more time.

"This should be, in any sane country, a bipartisan moment. The President is now committing multiple impeachable offenses every day by demanding laws be broken at his command. Republicans - especially - should have cut Trump loose long ago as a matter of duty.
Yes, some support for Trump is "polarization." But it's also something darker: It's a party of opportunists manipulating an ignorant mass of propaganda-addled people. The GOP and its media enablers are as hollow and cynical a group as has ever existed in American politics."
A thread worth reading from Never-Trump Republican Tom Nichols:

I know Mr. Jordan wrestles with the truth, he has a long history of protecting those who abuse their power. But don't worry, were going to pin him down with the facts."
Once again we have Mr. Goetz, speeding around the Capitol, taking cheap shots, recklessly ignoring the facts and the 100 percent proof that we have. And He fails every test when you look at the sobering truth of the crimes committed.
I swear DL could do better than the DNC! Goddamn it.

What I've learned in the past 4 years (since 2015) is that for some people, if you tell them what they want to hear, they'll be very willing to accept what YOU want them to hear.
White hetero xtians, especially older ones, do not like hearing that some beliefs and social norms they grew up with are wrong and that they're holding other groups down.
When they hear repub tv hosts and politicians telling them they're amazing and that it's everyone else who is wrong for challenging them, they are willing to accept things like "Obama was born in Kenya". "Hillary caused Benghazi". "Hillary's hiding her misdeeds in her emails". "Biden is corrupt and using his position to enrich and protect his family". "Trump is trying to take down the leftist liberal deep state and he's being unfairly attacked for it. That means they're attacking you!"
so the attachment becomes more and more emotional and irrational rather than based on facts and common sense. It's a cult

If the public allows them to win Congress you know this will happen sadly
I just don't know if the public has smartened up to the importance of midterm elections yet.
of course we have to ensure the Democrats win in 2020 first
by Anonymous | reply 441 | November 4, 2019 7:59 PM |
r439, a complete cleansing would create a void that will be filled with new morally corrupt individuals. It's our society, and the way we raise our kids, that needs a complete reboot. For example, it's our obsession with replacing one's own worth with the value of money, or influence he or she has that fucks everything up.
Getting rid of Putin and his puppets may give us some short term victory, but a new Putin is already waiting to fill the void.

Sounds like the RNC footed Trump's $60,000 bill to attend the UFC match, along with his Republican flunkies - however it sounds like it's against the House rules for them to do so:
Members of the House are allowed to take free tickets for sporting events if the event is a “bona fide” fundraiser, according to House ethics rules. The event was not an official fundraiser nor a campaign event, so it is unclear how the lawmakers could accept tickets. Members also have to receive written approval to take a gift. The official said the RNC paid because the president attended.
Also:
A week earlier, the RNC had paid $465 per seat in a luxury suite at Nationals Park for Trump, 11 members of Congress and senior White House staffers to attend the fifth game of the World Series between the Washington Nationals and the Houston Astros.
The RNC also previously paid for the president to attend the college football national championship game in Atlanta.

I want to vomit. A Facebook “friend” posted the name of the whistleblower on his page. It definitely is out there (of course, I won’t name him). Poor guy is really an afterthought in all this (and I don’t mean that in any disparaging way), but his life will take a trajectory that’s will be like a roller coaster. I feel terrible about it, and for him. From his biography, he seems like an amazingly decent guy.
So my “friend” works for a defense contractor. I don’t feel terrible at all that they got an email accusing him of getting this info via classified channels, and why was he publishing it? I took a screen shot, of course, in case they ask for it, but I am enjoying thinking of him squirming as they confront him. I think big indicators on where we stand with impeachment are the upcoming elections in Kentucky, Virginia and Louisiana. If the GOP loses big in these states, this would be really bad for Trump. It seems no one here is paying much attention to how much energy Trump currently invests to win theses states. Rallies, supportive tweets etc. He really wants to show the GOP that he can still win elections besides all the impeachment nonsense and that his base still supports him. But if these states turn blue on the other hand....
I have a very bad feeling though that Democrats will lose big time in the upcoming elections. Polls show that it is very close and with all the support from Trump... Why aren't some big Dems down there supporting the candidates more and telling people what a corrupt president Trump is? All I saw was a tweet from Obama.

Most of the mainstream media is afraid to call this what it is. The Republican Party, its members of Congress, and the extended family of appointees, present and former, have all been sprinkled with the fairy dust of Russian money, and intimidating oligarchs. The Republican agenda the extreme conservatives who populate the party now, want to end government as we know it. THey want to weaken and starve government, and privatize anything that isn't nailed down. They will run uop deficits and cut taxes for the wealthy in a breathtakingly irresponsible fashion to get their way. They are also determined to isolate us from the world community. This all works in tandem with Putin's agenda to reduce our power and weaken us. We can turn it around but we better get way more aggressive to do it.

We're not going to learn anything that we don't already now... that he's not as wealthy as he claims or that he hasn't paid his fair share of taxes? Deplorables won't care about the first and will applaud the second.
Anything else incriminating like foreign money, etc. wouldn't be in his personal income taxes but rather the corporations taxes... (again, not that Deplorables would care about foreign money).
So what are we hoping to see out his taxes? What am I missing?

Here's mine: Rudy's singular governing principle right now is who has the money. You will be able to tell just how committed Russia is to Trump, by watching where Rudy jumps. Because if Rudy turns on Trump by admitting culpability for the quid pro quo with Ukraine,it means he has another source of money. Personally, I don't think he will. I think he will be a stand up guy. He will incriminate others for other reasons, but he will stand firm on Ukraine, insisting he did nothing wrong. He will defend his actions to the death. Not for Trump, but because he wants to be able to keep the revenue stream from Eastern Europe flowing.
