The incumbent, South Boston resident Steven Lynch, is a former head of the Boston Ironworkers who also has a BS from Wentworth, a JD from Boston College, and an MPA from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. He's thus a local guy with academic cred and has held the seat since 2001. He was re-elected in 2018 running unopposed with 98.4% of the votes cast.
