Report: Matt Lauer had an affair with a 'well-respected' NBC star
"Disgraced 'Today' anchor Matt Lauer allegedly had an affair with a famed and well-respected broadcaster, the New York Post is exclusively told, representing a 'clear imbalance of power'.
The woman signed a nondisclosure agreement when she left NBC."
Wonder who the nondisclos-ing broadcaster was.

Unless the wife is clinically mentally deficient, she knew that her handsome, powerful, rich, famous American husband (she's Dutch) was fucking all the gals who threw themselves at him. Why would she complain about his infidelity since she had her babies and access to his money? She only got out of there when the rape allegations surfaced and Matt's TV career was officially dead.

R22, his wife and he had split years ago, minus the ink on the divorce decree. She kept the house in the country and the kids, & he lived in the city. That’s why he had so much time and opportunity to pursue tail 24/7.
Didn’t he also order his wife from one of those Epstein modeling catalogs? Or unlike Trump’s cheap, penny pinching ass, was he willing to pay for better quality, and ordered her through Casablanca’s catalog? Laurer’s now ex-wife is still gorgeous. Beautiful woman. Real class, too. What a waste on Laurer’s behalf.

Matt Lauer is a letch and a criminal but he's charismatic and very good as the co-host of a breezy morning news program. Everyone could see from a mile away that hiring Ann Curry to be his co-host was a terrible decision. She was so awkward and uncomfortable on the air and had to go. Matt wasn't unfairly targeting Ann, he was merely acknowledging reality but got blamed for "that poor woman being fired."

Departed “Today” anchor Ann Curry could “destroy” her former co-host Matt Lauer if she spills all on the disgraced star, according to a report.
Curry — who worked alongside Lauer from 1997 to 2012 — has not revealed the extent of allegations leveled against her NBC colleague, a source tells US Weekly.
“Ann has maintained a dignified silence, but a lot of people confided in her years ago and still do to this day,” the source told the outlet. “She knows more than most about the man Matt really is, and when she finally speaks out, it will destroy him.”
In a new book by Ronan Farrow, Curry insisted that the complaints about Lauer’s treatment of women were well-known during her tenure at the network.
She claimed that she went to higher-ups after one colleague revealed to her that Lauer exposed himself to her.
Though she didn’t reveal the accuser’s name, Curry told the execs that they “had a problem” with the morning show host, the book alleges.
“I told them that they had a problem in him,” she told Farrow. “That he had a problem with women. That they had to keep an eye on him.”
But network’s bigwigs have fired back at Curry, insisting she didn’t disclose the “specific” complaint.
“By her own account, Curry relayed no specific complaint, nor did she say Lauer’s ‘problem’ regarded any specific workplace misconduct,” NBC News President Noah Oppenheim wrote in a memo to staffers.
A rep for Lauer didn’t immediately respond to request for comment.

What’s amazing is how shit that has been talked about for decades regarding Matt, is coming out in a book written by a guy who was still a kid, when Matt was running around Manhattan, harassing women and fucking over their careers, AND the kid just so happens to be the son of one of NYC’s most famous, pieces of shit, who Matt has known for years, and has probably interviewed. I’m not sure if that interview ever happened between those two, because I’ve despised Matt from the moment I learned that his NBC morning show wasn’t the best place to drop off a resume, and specifically, why. Hence, I’ve never tuned into his hour of self aggrandizing schlock, except for that Tom Cruise meltdown, which was obviously required viewing for those of us who also knew what a complete whack job Cruise was, long before he decided to announce it all on his own, on national TV.
But here’s Ronan. The guy who has actually taken a huge career gamble by exposing all of these pieces of shit, when no one else would-NBC included, and that gamble paid off big. Thanks, Ronan. You rock!

I loved Ann Curry on Today. It wasn't that she was not right for Today, it's just that prior to Ann taking over as co-host, Today evolved from a healthy dose of news segments along with some celebrity and lifestyle segments to frau-laden celebrity, gossip, family/kids drivel and nauseating Kardashian crap.
Ann was better as a broadcast news journalist than the soupy frau crap that had become the Today Show. Ann Curry doesn't do Kardashian crap, but that's what her job became. It sucked. People blamed her for not fitting in and Matt Lauer blamed her as well. However, bullshit fluff, Kardashian trash is not what Ann signed up for. She's a newswoman, not a gossip columnist. Today now sucks beyond words. Ann Curry and decent journalism unfortunately are things of the past at Today.

Ann Curry was a disaster on the show. She was fired entirely for her performance, which was terrible.
She was treacly and over-earnest in her interviews — every single one had a cringey moment, if not several — she wasn't good at ad-libbing, exhibited no wit, stumbled constantly when reading stories (after 15 year as the newsreader), and dressed like Bozo the clown.
You don't tune into a morning show to watch a host who makes you want to turn away because they're embarrassing themselves. The ratings cratered.

I agree with R119. Ann was just not a good fit for the morning show. Even back to the days when Katie Couric was the anchor, she was the news reader, you can tell Katie didn't really like her either, maybe not "dislike" her on a personal level, but she was the odd one among them. Katie, Al and Matt...everyone was having a good time, Ann just cannot relax and blend in. For the light and fluffy pieces, she came out as too serious and killed them. For the "serious" interviews, she tried too hard. This is especially true when Ann interviewed people who survived an ordeal or tragedy, she would deliberately lower her voice and speak extremely slow, it's really awkward to watch. I am sure Ann is a nice person and she is very professional, but she just doesn't have the skill of Katie or Meredith, who knows how to talk, chat and interview on camera and switch smoothly from one segment to another.

R128 The media has re -written history when it comes to their response to Trump. Geist was one of Trumps moronic media buddies but unfortunately there were too many to count.
Now they are (supposedly ) absolutely shocked and scandalized by him and his abhorrent behavior. But for years they were his biggest cheerleaders, allowing him to get away with anything and everything while they smirked indulgently. As if he were a naught child. This continued well into the election, even when it became clear how much was at stake.
I would like to see an outsider journalist write a serious article naming and embarrassing all the journalists who gave Trump a pass. It couldn't be a member of the mainstream media because they were the worst offenders. I'm sick of seeing phony news personalities shedding crocodile tears over trumps antics.

I think it’s probably everyone except Ann Curry. Fun fact the day she was fired I saw Charlie Rose and Matt Lauer obviously coming from the same building on the east side walking in opposite directions. Charlie came barreling out chattering at his assistants prepping for the next show walking west. Lauer was walking slowly down Park Avenue with the biggest and smarmiest grin on his face. He was also clearly wanting to be recognized and getting a high out of reactions he was getting. People forget that under Lauer Today kept sinking lower and lower in ratings.

That letter did not stop Vester from continuing to share her story however, or Brokaw's lawyer from making threats.
'I guess we’re going to war,' said attorney Reid Weingarten after she gave interviews to ABC and CNN.
Weingarten would only say that he behaved 'professionally' and that he does not recall De Niro's name ever coming up in conversation.
'Those threats were what really caused rolling panic attacks,' said Vester.
'It’s not like I’m a shrinking violet. I used to report from war zones.'
Brokaw initially said that he met Vester twice, 'both at her request' because she wanted career advice.
'The meetings were brief, cordial and appropriate, and despite Linda's allegations, I made no romantic overtures towards her at that time or any other,' he said in a statement.
Then came the letter, in which Brokaw declared: 'My family and friends are stunned and supportive. My NBC colleagues are bewildered that Vester, who had limited success at NBC News, a modest career at Fox and a reputation as a colleague who had trouble with the truth was suddenly the keeper of the flame of journalistic integrity.'

I would like to see an outsider journalist write a serious article naming and embarrassing all the journalists who gave Trump a pass.
Are you certain that's what you want? The story would start with the DNC and the Hillary campaign instructing their allies in the media to build Trump up into the front runner. Personally I doubt this coordination and complicity will ever be properly explored, for obvious reasons.
[quote] As examples of these "pied piper" candidates, the memo named Donald Trump — as well as Sen. Ted Cruz and Ben Carson). "We need to be elevating the Pied Piper candidates so that they are leaders of the pack and tell the press to them seriously," the Clinton campaign concluded.

Let me tell you, it’s far worse to take someone’s money than to put them in jail. Jared Kushners father paid a fine, went to jail but kept his money. That’s was a disgrace. Matt lauer, on the tiger hand, never went to jail but he is ruined. He spent tons of money because he was making $25M/year. Now he makes $0 a year and he is in major trouble because he has to sell his properties in a sluggish real estate market, pay alimony, pay child support (private schools, etc).
The wife gets the horse farm. They paid only 3.4M for the land, which was a giveaway by the town. We fought it because it was sold to the town as agricultural reserve by the previous owner, and Lauer planned to build many buildings on it.
The people who had built their houses overlooking that land many years ago paid top dollar for their property because it bordered agricultural reserve, so the increased price was because it was scenic (it was a plant and tree nursery at the time) and was not to be built upon.
But a judge got paid off to declare horse farms “agricultural reserve” a few years later. So people who paid more money for their land because it overlooked scenic reserve are now literally looking at the back of a barn.
Even though they got the property at a fire sale price, they put millions into it and it costs a hell of a lot to maintain.
Lauer still hasn’t sold Strong Heart Manor which he bought from Richard Gere. He bought it for $32M and wants $44M.
He also had an estate in Southampton for sale for $14M. I don’t know if he ever sold that.
I’m not crying for Lauer, believe me. But when you expected to keep making $25M and your salary goes down to $0 with no hope of getting another job, it sure is expensive maintaining all that real estate, lol.

Pulitzer Prize hero Ronan Farrow disagrees,
Ronan Farrow sat down with Fox News’s Bret Baier to talk about the revelations made in his new book Catch and Kill. During the interview that aired on Fox News on Wednesday night, Farrow called out NBC for not behaving journalistically in their handling of his story, which they declined to publish.
“This was a case where a news organization didn’t behave journalistically,” said, speaking of NBC’s decision not to run the story.”They ordered us to stop.”
He added: “I owe to the bravery of sources and two incredible editors there. I think that it tells an important story about the circles of mutual protection and power in our business and the media and the need to hold ourselves accountable.”
He then praised Fox News and CBS for holding their own accountable and having the tough conversations.
“That’s true of CBS, where I did reporting on allegations of secret settlements there. It’s true of Fox, your own network, which has done a great job of confronting some of the issues here, including the use of secret settlements, and now there’s a tough conversation happening at NBC” Farrow stressed. “Many of them, including ones with Matt Lauer accusers. The journalists there who are excellent journalists, in many cases, are asking tough questions about why.”

I’m sure he does have money in the bank, but he’s not bringing any money in and he’s putting lots of money out. Alimony, child support, private school, maintaining at least 2, possibly 3 properties in the Hamptons, no doubt he has a Manhattan apartment.
He won’t be poor but people who count on lots of money coming in every year tend to spend a lot while keeping up with the Joneses. The landscape/maintenance bill for Strongheart alone is in the hundreds of thousands. Not to mention keeping up a property with 36 stables, indoor riding ring, pasture, etc.

If you can believe the internet it says he is worth $60,000,000 - after he pays Annette $20,000,000 that leaves him $40,000,000. He'll be OK - don't cry for him. He'll have to tighten his belt for sure - sell off multiple properties and he will be able to afford a pretty nice Manhattan co-op or live more modestly than he currently does in a Hamptons mini-manse. Rich men need women for sex whom they can control enough to make them go away and be quiet. Some employ high-end hookers, but they cannot always be controlled. Just ask Eliot Spitzer. For a very powerful man, like Lauer and Weinstein, the work place offered hot and willing women who could be dependably silenced with some coercion and some money and the corporate legal department. That's changing in some complex ways.
This might be a good time to be a high-end madame.

It's very possible Trump will give him a job after he leaves/is forced out of the presidency. Lauer could be an anchor on his new "Love Donald all the time" TV network.

I was never a big Hillary fan, bit I'll never forget this fucking asshole hosting that mockery of a discussion that was supposed to focus on being CiC and how they would act in that role. He took practically all of Hillary's time to ask about "her emails," then the audience question he chose was about..."her emails."
It was absolutely disgusting. I'm glad he's disgraced.

R174 I agree. I think celebutante /actor types make easy targets but usually they are just emotionally needy, narcissistic and sort of dumb. The real shark eyed sociopaths congregate in media.

r242 - absolutely. Lauer lobed softball after softball at Trump and made him relatable. He went on the attack on Clinton almost immediately. Your Emails, you are not trustworthy, the people don't like you...it was so biased I thought I was watching fox news.

the I remember a TVshow in the 80s called “People Are Talking.” It was during the heydey of daytime and early evening talk shows - Bill Boggs, Sally Jesse, Jenny Jones, Phil Donahue, Oprah, Morton Downey Jr, Jerry Springer, Geraldo, Maury Povitch. From 12N until 5 o'clock, talk shows, many of them locally based & broadcast, rules the airwaves. Then a bunch of them came in from 7pm-9pm. They talked about “the issues if the day.” Homosexuality, transvestism, adultery, single women having babies without partners, racism (locally the Howard Beach, Bensonhurst, Tawana Bradley, Bernie Goetz and Crown Heights incidents were huge on radio & tv talk shows).
People Are Talking was the name of a few differently located talk shows and the NY version was filmed in Secaucus NJ and hosted by Richard Bey and Renee Hambley. Bey was the real star of the show and it was very popular. Bey either got fired or quit the show. One day he was just gone, and this new guy named Matt Lauer took his place. The show nosedived because it was supposed to be a show about controversial topics but Lauer was this laid back guy who just didn’t seem interested in making a point. My friends and I stopped watching because he was just so damned dull. “That Lauer guy ruined the show. It’ll be the last show he’s on, that’s for sure, because he’s so boring.”
Well.....all the talk shows got cancelled when 24 hour news networks came along and co-opted the controversy and we know what happened toLauer’s career.
Funny, I can’t find a photo of Lauer on that show.

Wouldn’t it be great if all those talk shows came back on the air and 24 hour cable news networks just covered the news again?

R242 r245 During the last election the mainstream news sources and Fox were pretty much interchangeable. The one thing that all the news networks have in common is their Clinton derangement syndrome. Funny how they had all the time in the world to look at trivial e mails but these intrepid little reporters couldn't take a moment to look into Trumps Russian ties. They finally bothered reporting on it AFTER he was elected.

I remember him on that show R242. He was kind of an asshole to some of the guests too. Didn't he host a show on E briefly as well? A movie review show or something? The irony being that he couldn't even get those shows now after his fall.

Was this unheard of person “well respected”? R251?
Please elaborate on how you think she is so, and how that factored into your conclusion.
I am looking forward to understanding your thought process and how you came to the conclusion that this Amy person is “well-respected”.

Amy Robach was a Good Morning America correspondent for two years after leaving the Weekend Today co-host job in 2012.
She then became GMA's news anchor. She did reports about getting a mammogram for the show and discovering she had breast cancer. She had to have a bilateral mastectomy. The reports got a lot of praise.
She was just named the anchor of 20/20, replacing the drunk Elizabeth Vargas. I'd say that qualifies as "well-respected."

You think the host of the Today Show would go on Stern and talk about his cock? He had a contract with a morals clause, that's why he was fired so fast.
