"Splat."

I know a guy who was in a coma after doing the same thing at Grand Central Station. He used to be hot. Not so much now.

by Anonymousreply 1October 14, 2019 11:22 PM

Which firm was he with?

by Anonymousreply 2October 14, 2019 11:23 PM

Well, he’s no longer woke.

by Anonymousreply 3October 14, 2019 11:24 PM

I bet the victim was a DL’er. Fess Up!

There's a picture of the stairwell in the article. It's steep and the handrail is narrow. How could anyone think for a moment it would be safe.

by Anonymousreply 6October 14, 2019 11:27 PM

I worked there, it is a beautiful Art Deco Machine Age stairwell, but as you can see there are little fins on it that would make sliding hard to do and it not like a long swoop.

by Anonymousreply 7October 14, 2019 11:28 PM

Poor guy, a shameful way to die. Now if he had been on the bannister at the Met....

by Anonymousreply 8October 14, 2019 11:32 PM

I don't buy it. Something isn't quite right about this story. The way the museum officials behaved... seems like something else happened.

by Anonymousreply 9October 14, 2019 11:35 PM

Natural selection has no remorse

by Anonymousreply 10October 14, 2019 11:37 PM

The family is whining— “They haven’t offered me condolences or anything. To not even get a call saying we’re sorry or anything, nothing…

No one at the museum has reached out to his mom or me."

by Anonymousreply 11October 14, 2019 11:39 PM

What are the supposed to say? Sorry that your son was an idiot?

by Anonymousreply 12October 14, 2019 11:41 PM

Here's another story about his death.

[quote]The way the museum officials behaved ...

... is exactly the way any institution worried about a lawsuit would behave.

by Anonymousreply 16October 14, 2019 11:46 PM

This person was attending a function with alcohol.

Museums have good looking buildings and foolishly rent out their rooms for functions with alcohol.

by Anonymousreply 17October 14, 2019 11:46 PM

R13, are you also R5?

by Anonymousreply 18October 14, 2019 11:46 PM

R18 What's the problem?

by Anonymousreply 19October 14, 2019 11:48 PM

[quote] Please don’t let him be OH BOY

I did a quick Google search of his name, and unfortunately one of the first results was an incredibly racist, right-wing page.

by Anonymousreply 20October 14, 2019 11:49 PM

R7 Do you think Dawson bumped on the fins?

by Anonymousreply 21October 14, 2019 11:50 PM

They must have a lot of security cameras in that place, so I'm betting there is video of the incident.

by Anonymousreply 22October 14, 2019 11:51 PM

R20 You did a quick Google search of Kirkland Dawson's name?

by Anonymousreply 23October 14, 2019 11:53 PM

[quote] You did a quick Google search of Kirkland Dawson's name?

Yes.

by Anonymousreply 24October 14, 2019 11:55 PM

R11, I read that and thought, perhaps mother and sister weren't on his list of emergency contacts and didn't know who to reach? And if mama expects the museum to "say sorry," no chance, honey, that might be misconstrued as an admission of guilt.

by Anonymousreply 25October 14, 2019 11:55 PM

[quote] R18 What's the problem?

No problem. I’m just wondering whether R13 and R5 are the same poster.

I'm guessing it was one of those evening "First Fridays" events with booze, so perhaps he was drunk.

R28 I saw that too! Weird.

by Anonymousreply 29October 14, 2019 11:59 PM

Museums are NOT party venues!

by Anonymousreply 30October 15, 2019 12:18 AM

R30, What?

by Anonymousreply 31October 15, 2019 12:22 AM

I am not r5. I have him on my "Ignored" list, and so did not see his post.

After just now looking over his posts on other threads on my "Ignored" page, I have absolutely zero apologies to make to any of you for having him on my "Ignored" list.

by Anonymousreply 32October 15, 2019 12:32 AM

by Anonymousreply 33October 15, 2019 12:40 AM

by Anonymousreply 34October 15, 2019 12:44 AM

by Anonymousreply 35October 15, 2019 12:47 AM

How tragic. I assume he must have been drunk. Hope he was for his own sake. RIP

by Anonymousreply 69October 15, 2019 8:17 AM

It doesn't seem normal to me that someone over the age of 30 would still be sliding down banisters in public buildings. Not too bright. Another example that any mentally challenged fool can go law school.

by Anonymousreply 70October 15, 2019 9:28 AM

Barrister o’er the banister!

Ashes in the canister.

by Anonymousreply 71October 15, 2019 10:03 AM

A cursory eyeball at that railing would show it doesn't tempt with any length of sliding pleasure - as there are fins every few feet and then right angles. Also, sheer drop to concrete. Even a drunken brain would recognize these impediments to carefree glee! This guy must be quite dumb.

Or, a different story - maybe he just fell over it.

by Anonymousreply 72October 15, 2019 10:10 AM

Is his ghost going to haunt the stairwell day and night?

by Anonymousreply 73October 15, 2019 10:17 AM

I'm sorry he's dead but damn, that really is an embarrassing way to go. When I saw the thread title I thought the subject would be a child or at least a stupid teenage boy goofing off in front of his friends, not a grown-ass man in his 30's with a law degree.

by Anonymousreply 74October 15, 2019 11:08 AM

Was this promising young man, Kirkland, involved in this new initiative to make art transform the lives of young criminals and support social justice programs?

If so, this is a double-tragedy.

The Brooklyn Museum is home to one of the premiere collections of Egyptian Art. It’s obvious that an Ancient Egyptian curse player a part in this so called “accident.”

by Anonymousreply 76October 15, 2019 11:45 AM

How many eyewitnesses say they saw him do this? Because the story makes no sense on its face. A thirtysomething lawyer suddenly decided to slide down a *very* dangerous-looking banister? Even with booze, it's hard to believe.

Was he a criminal lawyer? Because they often wind up making enemies.

by Anonymousreply 77October 15, 2019 11:53 AM

I can picture this perfectly. First Saturday is a charged, exciting event with lots of interesting Brooklynites and a variety of music, dance, screenings and talks going on all at once. They serve alcohol in the lobby and the 3rd floor (where he fell from) or he was already coming from drinks or dinner. There's always a bit of a wait at all of the elevators so he and friends and maybe someone he was trying to impress decided to take the stairs. That staircase is rather beautiful and wide so the novelty of it. And it's out of the main flow enough so there'd be a break in visitors long enough to try something really stupid.

by Anonymousreply 78October 15, 2019 11:59 AM

R77 he was drunk Rose
