Who won the third Democratic debate in Houston?

I think Biden and Yang did a good job tonight

by Anonymousreply 270September 18, 2019 12:03 PM

Bye, Castro. Be careful with what you say next time.

by Anonymousreply 1September 13, 2019 3:03 AM

Beto. And it wasn't even close.

by Anonymousreply 2September 13, 2019 3:06 AM

Previous thread. Continue unloading on Castro here once that one is full.

by Anonymousreply 3September 13, 2019 3:08 AM

I'd let Castro shoot his load in me

by Anonymousreply 4September 13, 2019 3:09 AM

I’d vote for Pete or Yang

by Anonymousreply 5September 13, 2019 3:12 AM

Klobachar did well but I still think of her just as the woman who ate with a comb.

by Anonymousreply 6September 13, 2019 3:15 AM

Amy needs to stop with the fucking standup. Or at least get better jokes.

by Anonymousreply 7September 13, 2019 3:20 AM

Beto.

by Anonymousreply 8September 13, 2019 3:20 AM

Was Kamala high? She needs to drop out

by Anonymousreply 9September 13, 2019 3:21 AM

Klobuchar remains for me that little middle aged house frau and mother from the mid-West.

by Anonymousreply 10September 13, 2019 3:22 AM

only on DL is Buttigieg winning this debate lol

by Anonymousreply 11September 13, 2019 3:23 AM

Joe Biden was the frontrunner before the debate. He stood on stage, took heat from mostly every candidate, defended himself and he’ll still be the frontrunner afterward. All the BernieBro and Liz Lover trolls told us for weeks on here that their fav candidate would take Joe apart in this debate, or he’d stroke out, or blood would start pouring from his eyes and none of that happened. Joe continues to endure with nine candidates and the mainstream media/Twitterverse coming for his throat.

by Anonymousreply 12September 13, 2019 3:24 AM

Beto was milking his hometown advantage like nobody's business. The fact that he managed to insert it into his sob story at the end was a step too far. Was he one of the people who got shot, or?

by Anonymousreply 13September 13, 2019 3:24 AM

Robert is still a spastic airhead, so no way he wins.

by Anonymousreply 14September 13, 2019 3:25 AM

Booker can only win if he admits he love cocks

by Anonymousreply 15September 13, 2019 3:26 AM

Biden got a good hit in on Sanders and Warren's health care plans. Take notes Delaney...that's was how to do it!

by Anonymousreply 16September 13, 2019 3:27 AM

Kamala giggles too much.

by Anonymousreply 17September 13, 2019 3:30 AM

It was by far the best debate so far, in terms of format, etc., but I doubt it will change things much, except perhaps that it solidified my impression that this is now a 3-person race: Warren, Sanders, Biden. Beto did well, Castro did well, Klobuchar did well, but they are not in the inner circle. Booker, Buttigieg, Yang are the third circle around the planet we call SATURN

by Anonymousreply 18September 13, 2019 3:34 AM

Beto was an opportunist and that who he is

by Anonymousreply 19September 13, 2019 3:37 AM

Kamala is a hot shit.

by Anonymousreply 20September 13, 2019 3:37 AM

r18, all Sanders did is remind people how old he is, which isn't going to help him.

by Anonymousreply 21September 13, 2019 3:38 AM

Bernie reminded everyone that he has been fighting for hi his central principles with total consistency for 50 years, for longer than many of the others have even been alive, and that he is only sharper now. They all copied his ideas for the most part, he is the standard bearer.

by Anonymousreply 22September 13, 2019 3:49 AM

Well Castro just ended his campaign.

by Anonymousreply 23September 13, 2019 4:05 AM

I like Warren, but has anyone asked her what we're going to do if she is the winner and becomes President?

What happens to her seat? The Governor of Massachusetts is a Republican, and we can't afford to lose seats if we want to win back the Senate.

by Anonymousreply 24September 13, 2019 4:19 AM

Warren's I want to be a teacher stuff was a little odd. You wanted to be a teacher so much then why didn't you do it more? Seemed like she is trying to run on the goodwill teachers have and not the bad rep lawyers do.

by Anonymousreply 25September 13, 2019 4:24 AM

[quote]I'd let Castro shoot his load in me

by Anonymousreply 26September 13, 2019 4:25 AM

The hoodwinked Warren crowd scares me.

by Anonymousreply 27September 13, 2019 4:27 AM

I liked Klobocher. She'd be a good vp.

by Anonymousreply 28September 13, 2019 4:29 AM

Biden wasn't making sense. He was spinning that Camaro out.

by Anonymousreply 29September 13, 2019 4:31 AM

Kamala because she's fierce. We need someone like that against Trump.

by Anonymousreply 30September 13, 2019 4:33 AM

[quote]You wanted to be a teacher so much then why didn't you do it more?

R25, she was a teacher for over a decade?

As for the other candidates:

Biden's mind mind be okay but his public speaking was wacky. There were a few times when I was confused about what he was saying.

I just wanted Bernie to have a glass of water and relax but I really liked the fact that he and Warren didn't really attack each other.

Pete really needs to put himself out there more. I get that he doesn't think the American people want to hear a group arguing back and forth but if you don't come out as some a bit more tougher you get talked over and it just doesn't look good. I know he has it in him, he just had to be a little more aggressive next time but clearly not on Castro's level.

Beto finally woke up and was actually pretty good in my opinion as was Booker.

by Anonymousreply 31September 13, 2019 4:34 AM

The thing is, we don't really know who will do best against Trump until the actual time comes.

Even Hillary found Trump difficult to deal with, and she was one of the most successful and famous women in the world.

I read her book a few months ago, and she admitted when she rewatched the debates she had with Trump that he found ways to upstage her.

by Anonymousreply 32September 13, 2019 4:35 AM

If Biden's teeth fall out again and it happens when he's debating Trump, Trump will kill him with it. When your teeth fall out during a nationally televised debate, YOU'RE TOO OLD TO BE PRESIDENT.

by Anonymousreply 33September 13, 2019 4:36 AM

R33 he can always wet fart to offend Dump

by Anonymousreply 34September 13, 2019 4:37 AM

I'm liking Bernie and Yang more

by Anonymousreply 35September 13, 2019 4:38 AM

Biden was OK at times and faltered the rest of the debate...that has been his MO. This debate was no different but at least his eye wasn't shooting blood as it did at his last town hall (I just feel bad for the guy most of the time). Warren and Sanders were Warren and Sanders. I like them both - feisty, opinionated and at times a little left of my more centrist, moderate Democratic views. I absolutely loved Kamala - she really came back from the last debate but was given somewhat limited time during this one. She came across as very evangelical, interesting, funny and is certainly now a certified politcal "celebrity". Mayor Pete (also now celebrity status) - in comparison seemed off his game tonight (puffy, edgy, unfocused, fumbling at times...at least in comparison to previous performances). Booker really shined in many ways (again in comparisons to past performances), but who really cares at this stage of his polling? So I do like Yan as quirky and confusing as he can be, but what is he still doing here? No clue. Beto continues to be a bi-polar force IMO. Weird, cute, well-spoken, crazy, on point and then so clueless and neurotic. His debate wrap-up was downright pathetic. The only speech that we have ever heard from him and the same one that he spews every 30 minutes every day for the last few weeks. Castro was just whatever. Amy...blech.

by Anonymousreply 36September 13, 2019 4:41 AM

I wish Biden and Bernie would drop out. Both are losers for Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 37September 13, 2019 4:41 AM

R32 Hillary never brought the heat against Trump. I was so frustrated at that debate when he was walking around on stage behind her and she said nothing! I expected "Are you stalking me? Security!" You just KNOW that Kamala would never have let that slide.

by Anonymousreply 38September 13, 2019 4:42 AM

Seriously? None of them performed well. I don't know what the debates were before (never watched them before tonight), but this was just a hackneyed look-what-I did to try and upstand others. None was impressive. What are you gonna do? What do you have to bring? You're troubled stagnated past is not a qualifier.

by Anonymousreply 39September 13, 2019 4:43 AM

Joe Biden is not a viable candidate. If you think he is, read this fucking answer very, very, carefully.

"...as you stand here tonight, what responsibility do you think that Americans need to take to repair the legacy of slavery in our country?"

And here is the leading Democratic presidential candidate’s answer, in full:

Joe Biden: Well, they have to deal with the … Look, there is institutional segregation in this country. And from the time I got involved, I started dealing with that. Redlining, banks, making sure that we are in a position where—

Look, we talk about education. I propose that what we take is those very poor schools, the Title 1 schools, triple the amount of money we spend from $15 to $45 billion a year. Give every single teacher a raise to the equal of … A raise of getting out of the $60,000 level.

No. 2, make sure that we bring in to the help with the stud—the teachers deal with the problems that come from home. The problems that come from home, we need… We have one school psychologist for every 1,500 kids in America today. It’s crazy. The teachers are required—I’m married to a teacher. My deceased wife is a teacher. They have every problem coming to them.

Make sure that every single child does, in fact, have three, four, and five-year-olds go to school. School! Not day care, school. We bring social workers into homes of parents to help them deal with how to raise their children. It’s not that they don’t want to help. They don’t know what— They don’t know what quite what to do. Play the radio. Make sure the television—excuse me, make sure you have the record player on at night. The phone—make sure the kids hear words. A kid coming from a very poor school—er, a very poor background will hear 4 million words fewer spoken by the time they get there.

Davis: Thank you, Mr. Vice President.

Biden: No, I’m going to go like the rest of them do, twice over, OK? Because here’s the deal. The deal is that we’ve got this a little backwards. And by the way, in Venezuela, we should be allowing people to come here from Venezuela. I know Maduro. I’ve confronted Maduro. No. 2, you talk about the need to do something in Latin America. I’m the guy that came up with $740 million to see to it those three countries, in fact, change their system so people don’t have to chance to leave. You’re all acting like we just discovered this yesterday! Thank you very much.

It’s sad because Democrats will lose again in 2020. No clear leader and no plan to win.

by Anonymousreply 41September 13, 2019 4:47 AM

So, r40? A few of them had some doozies. And Kamala came across stoned and was slurring her speech. Castro was the one with dementia. And Bernie was just angry about life. But, hey...Biden!

by Anonymousreply 42September 13, 2019 4:49 AM

Eh I think trump will lose. He's dumb. But these dolts are not what is needed. Someone on DL needs to run.

by Anonymousreply 43September 13, 2019 4:50 AM

R12... Were you watching a different debate? Because Biden did well the first hour then it was all downhill from there from referring to Bernie Sanders as "President" to appearing incoherent several times as the night dragged on. The Sanders campaign is seizing on Biden's gaffe by the way.

It was embarrassing to see Biden forget what he said only a few minutes before during his exchange with Castro.. There are even more mistakes to mention but outside of the liberal mainstream media the consensus was Biden was a mess.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 44September 13, 2019 4:51 AM

Just objectively, they all are weak. Maybe if they did Warren-Pete? But Biden is very feeble and can’t beat Trump.

by Anonymousreply 45September 13, 2019 4:53 AM

The next debate should come down to Kamala, Pete, Beto and Corey.

by Anonymousreply 46September 13, 2019 4:54 AM

R44, I guess you didn't get your updated talking points. Turns out Castro was wrong. ABC read back what Biden said and Castro was burned by his own burn! So check in with Vlad and get some updated points.

by Anonymousreply 47September 13, 2019 4:55 AM

If Biden can’t hold it together for a 3 hour debate he should not run. The Republicans want him to be the candidate because he will be easily mocked as ancient and physically weak. His face is scary, like he has strokes.

by Anonymousreply 48September 13, 2019 5:00 AM

Who is the most articulate and/or convincing?

by Anonymousreply 49September 13, 2019 5:00 AM

Most articulate - Pete.

by Anonymousreply 50September 13, 2019 5:02 AM

R47.. Oh I see how some people think it was a cheap shot by Castro to portray Biden's gaffe as a memory loss.. But the fact is Biden did utter the words" They do not have to buy in" referring to a buy in option should people lose their jobs and no longer have employer health care coverage and they would be automatically enrolled..

Those words came out of Biden's mouth only to go back on it 2 minutes later during his exchange with Castro.

Biden did contradict himself that can't be denied... The video is there for all to see and is being replayed online and in the MSM.

R50 - not tonight. Did you watch the debate? Usually he is articulate, but not in this debate. He seemed quite, scared and unsure of himself. Warren, Harris and maybe kinda sorta Sanders were the standouts this PM. Pete was faltering for some reason (everyone has a bad night). It just wasn't his night.

by Anonymousreply 52September 13, 2019 5:09 AM

[quote]and a lawyer/law professor for much longer.

Yes, and as a professor, she TAUGHT.

by Anonymousreply 57September 13, 2019 5:19 AM

Pete loves Bernie and I’m here for it.

[quote]One outstanding and inspiring example of such integrity is the country’s only Independent Congressman, Vermont’s Bernie Sanders.

[quote]Sanders’ courage is evident in the first word he uses to describe himself: “Socialist”. In a country where Communism is still the dirtiest of ideological dirty words, in a climate where even liberalism is considered radical, and Socialism is immediately and perhaps willfully confused with Communism, a politician dares to call himself a socialist? He does indeed. Here is someone who has “looked into his own soul” and expressed an ideology, the endorsement of which, in today’s political atmosphere, is analogous to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Even though he has lived through a time in which an admitted socialist could not act in a film, let alone hold a Congressional seat, Sanders is not afraid to be candid about his political persuasion.

[quote]After numerous political defeats in his traditionally Republican state, Sanders won the office of mayor of Burlington by ten votes. A successful and popular mayor, he went on to win Vermont’s one Congressional seat in 1990. Since then, he has taken many courageous and politically risky stands on issues facing the nation. He has come under fire from various conservative religious groups because of his support for same-sex marriages. His stance on gun control led to NRA-organized media campaigns against him. Sanders has also shown creativity in organizing drug-shopping trips to Canada for senior citizens to call attention to inflated drug prices in the United States.

[quote]While impressive, Sanders’ candor does not itself represent political courage. The nation is teeming with outspoken radicals in one form or another. Most are sooner called crazy than courageous. It is the second half of Sanders’ political role that puts the first half into perspective: he is a powerful force for conciliation and bi-partisanship on Capitol Hill. In Profiles in Courage, John F. Kennedy wrote that “we should not be too hasty in condemning all compromise as bad morals. For politics and legislation are not matters for inflexible principles or unattainable ideals.” It may seem strange that someone so steadfast in his principles has a reputation as a peacemaker between divided forces in Washington, but this is what makes Sanders truly remarkable. He represents President Kennedy’s ideal of “compromises of issues, not of principles.”

Biden never has a clear answer and he always has to work in something about the dead son. Maybe he should talk about the son that left his wife for a teenager.

by Anonymousreply 59September 13, 2019 5:23 AM

[quote]Sanders has used his unique position as the lone Independent Congressman to help Democrats and Republicans force hearings on the internal structure of the International Monetary Fund, which he sees as excessively powerful and unaccountable. He also succeeded in quietly persuading reluctant Republicans and President Clinton to ban the import of products made by under-age workers. Sanders drew some criticism from the far left when he chose to grudgingly endorse President Clinton’s bids for election and re-election as President. Sanders explained that while he disagreed with many of Clinton’s centrist policies, he felt that he was the best option for America’s working class.

[quote]Sanders’ positions on many difficult issues are commendable, but his real impact has been as a reaction to the cynical climate which threatens the effectiveness of the democratic system. His energy, candor, conviction, and ability to bring people together stand against the current of opportunism, moral compromise, and partisanship which runs rampant on the American political scene. He and few others like him have the power to restore principle and leadership in Congress and to win back the faith of a voting public weary and wary of political opportunism. Above all, I commend Bernie Sanders for giving me an answer to those who say American young people see politics as a cesspool of corruption, beyond redemption. I have heard that no sensible young person today would want to give his or her life to public service. I can personally assure you this is untrue.

This is why Bernie deserves to and WILL win.

It’s also why he won the debate tonight.

by Anonymousreply 60September 13, 2019 5:23 AM

[quote]Yes, and as a professor, she TAUGHT.

But she's trying to emphasize her public school teaching. Big difference between being a public school teacher and a law professor at Harvard. The first is certainly a more noble calling. (and anyway Trump would beat her so easily so NEXT!)

I have no negative opinion on drug usage (unless they injure others) and do not think that cocaine is worse that other drugs, but you clearly do not have friends who either get drunk or high if you think Kamala was inebriated in any way. Have you ever been to a party ever? Or a club? LOL Drunk and high... Hahaha..

by Anonymousreply 63September 13, 2019 5:57 AM

I do both, r63, though I am not much into pot anymore.

In comparison to someone who was not slurring words and giggling during a presidential debate.

by Anonymousreply 66September 13, 2019 6:29 AM

R65, I like Pete too obviously. He is a great guy and a wonderful politician. That said, Kamala was trashed on multiple "drugs" and slurring words? I just didn't see it. But opinions are like assholes - we (mostly) all have one.

by Anonymousreply 67September 13, 2019 6:32 AM

R40, Biden makes gaffes sometimes, sure.

But Trump can barely put a sentence together.

by Anonymousreply 68September 13, 2019 6:35 AM

Joe is not good at debating. He acts like a husband being confronted by his wife over cheating: sputtering, defensive, not quite convincing but trying to make it work.

Pete is not improving. The same robotic wonkishness. No passion. Fading...

Kamala acted like she'd rather be someplace else (dinner + a movie?). At one point she followed an impassioned answer by Warren with just agreeing with her. Fading...

Beto hoping for another Texas massacre so he'll have something to talk about. Fading...

Amy acting- as always- like someone's mom who wandered on to the stage by accident. She'd love to be POTUS but can't seem to articulate why. Fading...

Cory can't connect with the crowds because he's living a lie: closeted gay man. No one believed the Rosario Dawson thang. Fading...

Sanders: goofy, humorless, disheveled, independent, Socialist. Tired of losing but this is his last chance. Fading...

Yang and Castro (sorry about the names) see the writing on the wall but showed-up anyway. Fading...

Warren wins this one. She was like a teacher trying to invigorate the kids on the last week of school. "Did I ever tell you the story about..."

Yeesss...

by Anonymousreply 70September 13, 2019 6:37 AM

I miss Marianne Williamson.

by Anonymousreply 71September 13, 2019 6:40 AM

Warren, Harris, Sanders, Pete - these are our real choices. All great in their own unique ways. All 4 can kick the GOP in the cunt. Much needed.

by Anonymousreply 72September 13, 2019 6:41 AM

[quote]Joe is not good at debating. He acts like a husband being confronted by his wife over cheating: sputtering, defensive, not quite convincing but trying to make it work.

I think Biden is less comfortable in the Democratic debates because he's having to compete against people in his own party and engage in some difficult exchanges with fellow Dems like Kamala & Castro over race issues, etc.

But Biden did well in the VP debates against Sarah Palin & Paul Ryan.

One on one against Trump he might regain that focus.

by Anonymousreply 73September 13, 2019 6:42 AM

R67 I didn't see it, either. She was being spontaneous and can kick Trump's ass if she gets that far. He would become the whiny little racist misogynist he is on display to the world. Want this.

by Anonymousreply 74September 13, 2019 6:45 AM

Kamala was upset because earlier she had just walked out on her date when her date demanded, "I wanna take you upstairs and get me some cervix." Admittedly, it's hard to find good cervix these days, and you certainly don't walk out on it.

by Anonymousreply 75September 13, 2019 6:47 AM

R75 Shut up.

by Anonymousreply 76September 13, 2019 6:55 AM

Castro wants us to end the trade war with China so we can punish China for the treatment of Uighurs... wut?

Beto insists El Paso is safe because it has so many immigrants

by Anonymousreply 77September 13, 2019 7:31 AM

Beto needs to drop out and run for Senator against that razor-sharp, evil, Antichrist villain Ted Cruz. Help us out where it counts Beto. Please!

by Anonymousreply 78September 13, 2019 7:36 AM

R78, Beto lost to Cruz in 2018. Cruz is not up for reelection till 2024

by Anonymousreply 79September 13, 2019 7:41 AM

This debate convinced me they are all fatally flawed in different ways. I've sent money to Pete and really distrust the faux Indian Warren but I guess she did better than the others. I don't think she can beat Trump. Really, they are all so bad.

by Anonymousreply 80September 13, 2019 8:19 AM

[quote]Joe is not good at debating. He acts like a husband being confronted by his wife over cheating: sputtering, defensive, not quite convincing but trying to make it work.

Oh my god, you put it perfectly. That's exactly what I've been getting from Biden during these debates! And it's getting worse as well. Did you see his arms last night? What the hell was that all about?

by Anonymousreply 81September 13, 2019 9:20 AM

r69 must have just seen a LOTR movie, what with his constant "fading" talk. Go jerk off in a Liv Tyler thread, dear.

by Anonymousreply 82September 13, 2019 9:22 AM

I wish they'd stop bringing up reparations.

by Anonymousreply 83September 13, 2019 9:35 AM

It's always interesting to read about these debates here just to read all the illogical conclusions uttered by many who watched. It's never more evident how people tend to bend the truth to fit their own wants and needs than it is in one of these threads. Some people only see and hear what they want to see and hear. And when they don't see and hear what they want, they just pretend they did by changing the facts.

by Anonymousreply 84September 13, 2019 9:46 AM

Warren and Yang are the only ones who didn't speak at all about "civil rights and racism". 👀

Have you noticed how they never, ever ask Warren a question about racial issues? We're just supposed to trust her on this one, even though she has zero experience on that front, executive or otherwise?

by Anonymousreply 86September 13, 2019 10:04 AM

I normally can't stand Dan Pfeiffer, but he nailed Booker for me in the Crooked media group chat during the debate. He said Booker is very good at saying nothing, and that he's a powerful communicator, but you're never really sure what his main point is.

Which is basically what youth pastors do. All affect, little substance.

by Anonymousreply 87September 13, 2019 10:44 AM

Oh, and he also nailed Warren - hearing her speak, you'd never realise Trump was president. All corruption and big corporations all the time, and little in the way of discussing Trump, who is fucking Satan incarnate.

by Anonymousreply 88September 13, 2019 10:48 AM

If Trump is going to win, then he’s going to win. Nothing can change a rigged and hacked system. So the Dems might as well offer their best, regardless of what Trump “voters” think.

by Anonymousreply 89September 13, 2019 11:07 AM

[quote] She was being spontaneous and can kick Trump's ass if she gets that far.

by Anonymousreply 92September 13, 2019 11:16 AM

How can anyone think Bernie is a viable candidate at this point?

He looks and sounds like he should be in hospice care.

This “debate” was a dumpster fire. Yeah, corporations have ruined politics... with Reality TV gladiator matches defining our political “debates.”

It’s all such an unseemly bloodsport (MARY!).

It also isn’t fucking interesting when 10 people are basically espousing the same thing but in different shades. It’s about catching sound bites (which Castro failed at, badly).

Say what you will, but last debates had candidates with different viewpoints that encourage, you know, POLICY debate: Bennet, Bullock, Inslee, Tulsi...

There’s honestly no point in watching these anymore. It’s just NFL for nerds rather than anything of substance.

by Anonymousreply 94September 13, 2019 12:39 PM

No, r51, Castro was flat out wrong about what was said. Try again and try harder next time.

r72, I wouldn't put Pete or Sanders in that tier. I don't think either one of them has a prayer of beating Trump should they be the nominee next year.

Thank God neither of them will be.

by Anonymousreply 96September 13, 2019 12:49 PM

r83, white guilt much?

by Anonymousreply 97September 13, 2019 12:54 PM

I really disliked the format of this debate, or more accurately the topics.

They let Ramos and Davis ask questions for which there was no good answer: agree with them and you come off far too left for most voters, and disagree and you come off like a racist.

No talk of the economy either beyond a quick question about China and tariffs.

Biden's support isn't among people on Twitter or Datalounge or writing for Vox and HuffPo and older Black people seem to like him because of Obama

Warren is far and away the smartest candidate, she just needs to stop that thing she does where she ties everything back to "and that's because corporations are evil and ruining this country."

We get that you're onto them, Liz, but it makes you sound sort of nuts, undercuts the smart point you just made, and will make people like my parents and their friends automatically vote for Biden in the NY primary.

by Anonymousreply 98September 13, 2019 1:03 PM

Ah, no r97.

[quote] Beto hoping for another Texas massacre so he'll have something to talk about. Fading...

Are you a cunt, or just a moron? Did you HEAR the applause Beto got? That is not the sound of fading.

by Anonymousreply 100September 13, 2019 1:11 PM

Agree with YMF.

Still, as soon as Castro perpetrated verbal elder abuse on national TV against Biden, I'll admit it: I had a delicious daydream about seeing Castro no-restraint bitch-slap Trump around a debate stage.

by Anonymousreply 101September 13, 2019 1:12 PM

Thank you Della

As for the rest:

Pete: He'd make a stellar Secretary of State

Beto: He'd make a great VP for Warren. That last question was tough for him, since nothing even remotely bad has ever happened in the semicharmed life of Robert O'Rourke. "My parents made me come home from NYC and get a real job" is about it.

Harris: The Trump cold open bit was good but she is so scripted and phony and inauthentic. No surprise that she's got all of Her advisors from 2016 working for her. "Pokemon Go To The Polls" and all that.

Booker: Makes some nice speeches, sounds impassioned, but no idea WTF he stands for. The bougie Black kid who lived in the projects for a few years to get in touch with his people bit wears thin given that he's in the Senate now. (At least Obama had a Michele to give him authenticity.)

Amy: She's be a great VP for Biden and that is clearly job she is gunning for: midwestern woman with NE man.

Bernie: still just a single note and shouts too much. Though I still think he should have said "And I'm Jewish. So I know a lot more doctors than you do Yang, and let me tell you...."

Yang. Bless his heart. He'll write a book. Get a podcast. Maybe start a YangGang consulting business that comes with an app.

by Anonymousreply 102September 13, 2019 1:21 PM

no-restraint VERBALLY bitch-slap^

by Anonymousreply 103September 13, 2019 1:22 PM

I kind of liked it better when Castro was physically bitch slapping Trump, lol

by Anonymousreply 104September 13, 2019 1:23 PM

And he'd get bitch slapped back even harder if he was wrong like he was last night, r102. Trump's flying monkeys wound be all over TV going on and on how Castro was wrong in his attack and it would be played on an endless loop. He's lucky he did this last night to the one candidate that the media isn't fond of.

by Anonymousreply 105September 13, 2019 1:24 PM

While I understand your point, r105, still, I'm not sure Castro would get bitch-slapped back even harder even if he was wrong.

True, Trump is held to a different standard , as in NONE, but even his supporters know he dishes it out but he can't take it. If Castro gave him back, and then some, of what he dishes out, let his flying monkeys expose themselves as Trump's rescuers. He'll look like the coward he is.

But again, this is all an exercise in daydreams.

by Anonymousreply 106September 13, 2019 1:30 PM

Why do we have so many losers in the Democratic Party? Why don’t we have a candidate that is smart, relatively young, coherent, and actually has a personality?

by Anonymousreply 107September 13, 2019 1:33 PM

People criticizing Bernie because of his age whilst simultaneously defending a deteriorating Biden and chastising a “too harsh” response from Castro who “unfairly mocked Biden’s age” are too fucking much.

by Anonymousreply 120September 13, 2019 3:28 PM

I thought Biden held his own and stood up for himself well. Harris did fine. Warren did fine. Buttigieg was polished and articulate as usual.

Yang has no business running and his bizarre and probably illegal offer to give $1,000 to people who go to his website and sign up for his contest or whatever was instantly disqualifying.

Beto was all right, but I’m over him. Castro is a dick. I kept waiting for Klobuchar to throw a stapler at somebody.

I hate Sanders and I hate his cult members more.

Oh, and Booker looks and acts like a frat boy.

by Anonymousreply 122September 13, 2019 4:27 PM

Every time I see that “Oh heyyyy, Joe” clip of Kammie replayed it looks worse. She slurs and giggles like she’s at a party and had one too many drinks.

by Anonymousreply 123September 13, 2019 4:30 PM

“Dagnabbit” Lol

by Anonymousreply 124September 13, 2019 4:31 PM

I didn’t think she slurred and I didn’t notice her giggling more than once or twice.

by Anonymousreply 125September 13, 2019 4:31 PM

I definitely think that Kamala was drunk at the debate.

by Anonymousreply 126September 13, 2019 4:31 PM

R125 Have you seen any replays of that moment? She looks and sounds tipsy as hell.

by Anonymousreply 127September 13, 2019 4:38 PM

R18 On what planet did Castro “do well”? He came across as a mean little (literally little) shit plus he’s a greasy little creep.

by Anonymousreply 128September 13, 2019 4:41 PM

No, I haven’t seen any replays. I just watched it this morning on YouTube and have been avoiding most commentary on all the debates. I’ll look at it again, but I didn’t notice anything off about her. She giggled once or twice at things that I thought it was fine to giggle at.

by Anonymousreply 129September 13, 2019 4:42 PM

Biden was a mess. I can’t believe they’re spinning it into a victory for him. HIS TEETH FELL OUT.

by Anonymousreply 130September 13, 2019 4:43 PM

Yes, Castro vacillates between whiny and nasty. He’s possibly the most unlikeable one up there.

by Anonymousreply 131September 13, 2019 4:44 PM

BERNIE SANDERS won. Elizabeth Warren is also trying to win the election for either Bernie or Her bc they are front runners.

by Anonymousreply 132September 13, 2019 4:45 PM

I didn’t think Biden did badly. He sniped back when he was sniped at and showed more fire than he did in the previous two debates.

by Anonymousreply 133September 13, 2019 4:46 PM

The backlash against Castro is absurd. He was 100% right. Biden contradicted himself.

How is it that “Biden is the only one who can beat Trump” but also “No one can criticize Biden!!” How’s THAT going to hold up against Trump?

Warren won.

by Anonymousreply 134September 13, 2019 4:46 PM

Biden could hardly finish a point. Read the transcripts. He sounds insane.

by Anonymousreply 135September 13, 2019 4:47 PM

Castro and Amy were apparently standing on a box for that extra height boost, and the camera captured it on both occasions. 👀

I thought the “Hey Joe” thing was funny and cute.

It’s not about what Castro said, it’s about the way he said it. It was obnoxious.

by Anonymousreply 141September 13, 2019 4:57 PM

It's not them R140, it's the fucking moderators trying to "out-woke" each other.

Someone (Warren?) needs to shut them down, to say "you know, this puts us all in an untenable position and black Americans need affordable health care and good wages. Reparations are beside the point and you know that so cut this shit out." (I guess Beto will have to say "shit")

by Anonymousreply 142September 13, 2019 4:58 PM

Someone somewhere speculated that a focus group told Kamala she has to be more personable instead of being cutthoat all the time, and she tried out that approach last night. She came across as pretty goofy to me.

Whatever points Beto got for his guns zinger he lost when he brought up reparations. So it was a pretty neutral night for him, just like for Booker, Pete, Warren, and Bernie, although these other ones didn't really have a standout moment like him.

by Anonymousreply 143September 13, 2019 4:58 PM

Castro was implying (and not subtly) that Biden is senile, which is slimy. I found Harris more likeable in this debate than in the others. I think she and Biden do genuinely like each other.

by Anonymousreply 144September 13, 2019 5:02 PM

[quote]He was 100% right. Biden contradicted himself.

Jonathan Karl on ABC disagrees with that (among many others.) Castro tried and failed.

by Anonymousreply 145September 13, 2019 5:02 PM

I have supported Pete up till now, but he was lackluster at best last night.

by Anonymousreply 146September 13, 2019 5:03 PM

[quote]Someone (Warren?) needs to shut them down, to say "you know, this puts us all in an untenable position and black Americans need affordable health care and good wages.

Warren would never wade into this particular debate in this manner. She's polling just above Pete with black people, and she has universal name recognition, so her numbers are objectively BAD. She needs the black vote along with the broad appeal, so will keep her mouth shut on this issue and pivot like crazy whenever asked about it.

by Anonymousreply 147September 13, 2019 5:03 PM

r146 I'll still take lackluster over loopy, rambling, nasty, and bombing with lame jokes. It's a presidential debate, not a variety show.

Warren also didn't have a breakout moment, yet she's somehow being declared as the winner of the debate. Sometimes I feel like the pundits decide in advance whom to crown after each debate. 🤷‍♂️

by Anonymousreply 148September 13, 2019 5:06 PM

Here’s the full quote for you, R134:

by Anonymousreply 152September 13, 2019 5:09 PM

Fair point R147

That would mean the job would fall to the useless DNC--not sure if that's within their purview but they can try and get them to stop, though they'd need to be careful they don't get called out for rigging the debate.

And you are not going to convince the troll R152. Let it go.

by Anonymousreply 155September 13, 2019 5:47 PM

Then there was the moment where Kammy got all choked up and semi weepy while reminiscing about dear Mrs. Whatever, her second grade teacher “god rest her soul” her voice all trembling and quavering. Like some people do when they’ve had just a lil too much to drink.

r156 Right. And her crocodile tears and low, emotional voice talking about the autopsy photos she's seen. Give me a break, Dirty Cop.

by Anonymousreply 157September 13, 2019 6:04 PM

R146, what should Pete do? He's not a showboater or someone who is combative. I know what you mean, though. He's often outshadowed by people like Booker, who is loud and always has some well rehearsed slogan ready to go. To me, someone like Booker comes off as disingenuous. He's just acting the part. I realize that people are looking for someone to set off fireworks, but that's not Pete. He's thoughtful, quietly introspective, polite and he listens. He's true to himself. I appreciate that and to me, it's just what I want in the next President. I don't want another loud mouth.

by Anonymousreply 158September 13, 2019 6:05 PM

What should Pete do, R158?

Secretary of Agriculture.

That's the job that needs the qualities you described. Plus, he's from a farm state.

R159, I'd be very happy with that. People need more time to get "used" to him. I don't think this is his time, but I do see him as President in the near future.Maybe even in 2024. He's just beginning and I'm so happy that it's in my lifetime.

by Anonymousreply 166September 13, 2019 7:46 PM

Height is important in politics. That's why most Presidents are 6 feet tall or more. And Trump is the latest example.

You see the same in other countries -- eg. Justin Trudeau of Canada.

by Anonymousreply 172September 13, 2019 11:08 PM

by Anonymousreply 173September 13, 2019 11:12 PM

So what will disqualify some of them for the next debate. I think it should basically be Warren, Sanders, Biden and Mayor Pete. Really they were the only ones I was interested in hearing from. Beto is okay but no way is he going to get the nomination so basically he needs to stop.

by Anonymousreply 174September 13, 2019 11:21 PM

I'm liking Bernie. Andrew Yang just comes across so cool and collected. Pete was most presidential. Elizabeth was good too. I'm liking a Warren Buttigieg ticket. I would be happy with any of these 4 but I would love to see Andrew or Pete disassemble Trump piece by piece.

by Anonymousreply 182September 13, 2019 11:56 PM

r182 Hill's supporters said the exact same thing about Obama this time in 2007.

We'll see, is what I'm saying. Predicting the future didn't go so well in 2016 either, so perhaps you shouldn't entertain the delusion that you can get it right this time around? You're no better than the rest of us in that department.

I maintain that Warren is doing well, slowly and steadily. She's thin, glowing, youthful for 70 - energetic! That's gonna matter BIGLY, if you catch my drift. Plus she can appeal to both the working folks and the "smart" people. Her problem is, she is sometimes shrill and schoolmarmish. But at least she smiles and gives off friendly, upbeat vibes. The primaries are one thing, but I'll be interested to see how she presents once things shift to the general election. I think it's safe to say she's on the ticket, one way or t'other.

by Anonymousreply 185September 14, 2019 12:04 AM

Beto really has the most impressive performance.

by Anonymousreply 186September 14, 2019 12:07 AM

[quote]I admire Kamala but to me she wasn't so much debating as she was lecturing.

Kamala has potential, but like a lot of the other candidates, I think she may have made the jump to run for the Presidential nomination too soon.

She's only been in the Senate for 2 or 3 years and it might have helped her to get a full term in under her belt before running for the Dem nomination.

by Anonymousreply 187September 14, 2019 12:25 AM

R174, it's so cute that you are in love with Mayor Pete, but he is polling well behind Kamala on average. If you had a line up of 4 candidates, she would obviously be the 4th and he would not be in the group.

by Anonymousreply 188September 14, 2019 12:28 AM

They will obv all do better than Trump at the debates, but America likes charisma and none of the elders have it. As for the others... Pete seemed like a deer in the headlights honestly and my love affair with him is over. He'll be a better candidate 8 years from now. It took Julianne Moore 4 tries to win an Oscar remember. Kamala fake laughs anytime she says something dumb to distract you. The people who didn't "trust" Hillary will not vote for her either. The only one I could see beating Trump charisma-wise was Andrew Yang. He has a lot of dumb gimmicks like free money and he stereotyped Asians. That's the language America speaks. Beto was pretty good too, but I bet it feels weird knowing the El Paso shootings elevated his campaign.

by Anonymousreply 189September 14, 2019 12:45 AM

R140: ...reparations... “decriminalizing the border” and free health care for all immigrants

I’m for all these things, except the Dems need to learn how to refer to them and talk about them. For example, the word “reparations” should be banned except when it is disavowed. Affirmative Action, or other existing programs are fine.

Of course the border should be decriminalized. We shouldn’t make criminals out of people who only want what was given to natural born citizens. Make it a Civil infraction. That millionaire who grazes his cattle on Federal land out West got a pardon, yet people seeking to become Americans are made to be criminals? That’s crazy.

As for Healthcare, everybody should receive basic healthcare that is paid by the government.

And the next debate is already decided, so we'll see them all again. But it really is Warren, or Biden, or Bernie. (Pundits liked Kamala. Castro WAS bad. But Booker was worse. Post-debate, he went on CNN and basically agreed with everything Castro said, only Closet Man didn't have the guts to say it to Biden's face. I can't stand that phony.

All I know is that when Pete finished his sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes. Pete's amazing and no one comes close!

by Anonymousreply 199September 14, 2019 1:56 AM

Mayor Pete is not ready. He is so damn impressive though. Hope he finds some way to raise his profile for next time.

by Anonymousreply 200September 14, 2019 1:59 AM

[quote] Beto had a good night though.

I am not surprised. I saw him speak to a small crowd in Houston long before he blew up. It was around the time of the original Trump crackdown on immigrants and an Asian girl going to Harvard stood up and asked why Beto had voted against the bill that would have made it possible for her to stay. She began to cry as she was speaking. I can't remember the exact details of the date or the bill, but it was a while back. He handled the tense situation and the question very well. He did not come across as a lightweight or stupid at all.

That said, I don't care who the candidate is. I'd vote for a sack of shit if the Democrats ran it against Trump.

by Anonymousreply 201September 14, 2019 2:00 AM

Warren has a kind of Anti-Charisma which weirdly enough can actually work sometimes. Sometimes, and I keep going back to this example, as with Maggie Thatcher, you don't exactly like her, you accept that she is kind of a scold and a school marm, but there is something just basic and honest there that you respect and find refreshing. Especially after the neverending grifty shitshow that as the Trump Bullshit Brigade. It's not charisma exactly, but it is something very attractive.

by Anonymousreply 202September 14, 2019 2:02 AM

Perhaps I am insane. But do you not worry that people will mock Pete and spit on Him and scourge Him? I am, but I am also sure that within three election cycles Pete will rise again.

by Anonymousreply 206September 14, 2019 2:32 AM

you are being incorrigible r199. And a pharisee. And you know what? Pete will rise again. It's not his time, yet, but his time will come.

by Anonymousreply 207September 14, 2019 2:37 AM

They absolutely need to stop talking about reparations. It’s never going to happen and the only thing that will happen is that Democrats will lose every election from now until doomsday.

Americans love Medicare For All until they’re told that their taxes will go up. Then support for it plummets. And saying you’re going to do away with private health insurance companies will get you about as far as talking about reparations will.

Also...climate change. It’s real and drastic measures will have to be taken if there’s going to be any chance of lessening its impact. However, what no one wants to admit is that the vast majority of Americans would literally rather burn to death than make the necessary drastic changes. That’s where we are with that.

Universal basic income...it will become necessary fairly soon, but that’s a reality that Americans will refuse to consider until a large swath of us have had our jobs automated away. And it’s going to happen. In the next 20 years, if I feel like being generous.

But until then, it’s another political hot potato.

by Anonymousreply 208September 14, 2019 2:41 AM

"Warren, Biden, Bernie. It's obvious after every debate. These are your choices Democrats."

These are the three who have been in the public eye for ages so they have better name recognition. Kamala and Pete are getting their names out there and will be great contenders the next election cycle. Pete desperately needs some time in Congress though. That is all he is missing (of course that idiot Trump is missing EVERYTHING and still made it - with a lot of cheating and Putin money...).

by Anonymousreply 209September 14, 2019 2:44 AM

It is true about the polls on Medicare for All. As long as it is vague, it is extremely popular. Get specific, and the polls start plummeting. Democrats are going to have to deal with that. I still go with Bill Maher on this kind of thing: Democrats watch the polls; Republicans change the polls. I think Democrats could sell Medicare for All, but it does require an actual effort.

Universal Basic Income, yeah, at first sight, most Americans are going to hate that. That is a tough sell. That will take a lot of effort.

by Anonymousreply 210September 14, 2019 2:45 AM

Biden and Bernie have been around forever, r209. Warren pushed her way into that trio by sheer effort and intelligence. I think that's a difference, and I think she'll win this whole shebang because of it.

by Anonymousreply 211September 14, 2019 2:48 AM

[quote]That is a tough sell. That will take a lot of effort.

Once the shit hits the fan, it won’t. People will be clamoring for it. The people who talk about retraining people for higher-skilled jobs are delusional. Frankly, you can’t train the stupid out of people, and most people are incredibly stupid and don’t emotionally mature too much past the age of 12.

Your choices are UBI or just hand out more opioids.

by Anonymousreply 212September 14, 2019 2:50 AM

[quote] Frankly, you can’t train the stupid out of people, and most people are incredibly stupid and don’t emotionally mature too much past the age of 12.

Now that I teach high school, I have to agree. It is shocking how stupid some people are. It's not something that education or training will change. Some people are born that way.

by Anonymousreply 213September 14, 2019 2:53 AM

I totally agree with you about the Retraining thing. I don't know, I don't work in that field, maybe somebody will pop into this thread and set us all straight, but still, I just have this thing that I think retraining is a bullshit thing politicians say to pretend to be doing about an actual problem. but yeah, upshot, yeah, I think at some point UBI will be the ONLY answer. but Americans in our delusional stupid way are going to fight it every step of the way, at least for a while.

I admit to tearing-up during Pete's closing statement, in part because I never expected to hear a presidential candidate of his caliber, who is consistently polling as one of the top five contenders, talking about being gay.  I also respect that he hasn't yet said a despairing word about any of his challengers.  He may be the youngest candidate, but I find him one of the most mature...and maturity, intelligence, seriousness and a non-bully are exactly what I'm looking for, particularly after the last three disastrous years.

by Anonymousreply 225September 14, 2019 6:43 AM

no one likes their private insurance companies. No one want to be blocked (DENIED) from seeing a specialist or getting on medications. no one wants to go bankrupt because they had to go to the hospital.

"Hospitals for everyone, not just the rich," is a wining message.

It's such an easy message to articulate, if they all tried. Or they can just shut the fuck up and let the smartest people in the room do it, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

by Anonymousreply 226September 14, 2019 7:05 AM

All these Hollywood celebrities shilling for Pete is the kiss of death.

[quote]It is true about the polls on Medicare for All. As long as it is vague, it is extremely popular. Get specific, and the polls start plummeting. Democrats are going to have to deal with that.

Which is exactly why Warren is being vague about it. She always deflects when asked if taxes will go up. She says something vague like "costs will be reduced and people will pay less."

She understands the polling, and that is why she is going to win.

by Anonymousreply 228September 14, 2019 12:15 PM

Of course taxes will go up to pay for Medicare for All. What would you prefer? That employers from coast to coast just pocket the billions of dollars they now lay out each year to pay for employee health insurance?

This is not a tax question and Warren is correct in staying away from that false premise. The only question is about cost. Will Medicare for All cost more than private health insurance? Why on earth would it?

by Anonymousreply 229September 14, 2019 12:19 PM

Then it's Warren or Biden r193, because there's no way it's going to be Bernie. And if he gets the nomination we are dead in the water and Trump is re-elected, because there's no way most of the voters in this country are going to vote for a Socialist Jew.

And you know it.

Microsoft News Poll

Did the Sept. 12 Democratic debate change your mind about your preferred candidate?

8% Yes

57% No

31% I didn't watch

4% No opinion

by Anonymousreply 231September 14, 2019 2:27 PM

R228, she can only be vague about it for so long. Her vagueness will work against her. There was already an ad in my market during the debate on how medicare for all is going to raise your taxes and take away your insurance --and I'm in Pennsylvania.

by Anonymousreply 232September 14, 2019 2:33 PM

"Castro’s big attack on Biden: The former Housing and Urban Development secretary clearly came ready to go at this debate, and he went hard at Biden. But his biggest optical win didn’t have substance to back it up. He accused Biden of saying his plan would not automatically enroll people in his public health care option. When Biden denied it, Castro was apoplectic. “Are you forgetting what you said two minutes ago?” he said repeatedly, perhaps not subtly spotlighting Biden’s age.

Well, we checked the tape, and Castro was wrong. Biden had said that “anyone who can’t afford it gets automatically enrolled in the Medicare-type option we have, et cetera.”

by Anonymousreply 233September 14, 2019 3:22 PM

[quote]she can only be vague about it for so long. Her vagueness will work against her.

Most voters aren't very smart and like simple taglines like "Medicare for All" and "lower costs".

by Anonymousreply 234September 14, 2019 4:04 PM

Yeah, and, messages like higher taxes, government run insurance and you'll pay more are just as simple resonate even more with voters. But, sure, be vague.

by Anonymousreply 235September 14, 2019 4:08 PM

I love how Castro punched Biden’s campaign. It may not benefit him, but it will benefit another candidate in the coming debates.

by Anonymousreply 236September 14, 2019 4:56 PM

Castro is obviously angling to be Warren's VP, by trying to weaken Biden.

56.6 million Hispanics in the US. Just over 37 million non-Hispanic blacks in America.

Voting is a numbers game. Julian, come to the front of the line. Cory and Kamala, step aside.

by Anonymousreply 238September 14, 2019 5:37 PM

I'm a proud Liberal, always was as were my entire family going back to my great grand parents. Before that I have no idea who those people are as they probably were somewhere in Europe and I'm old myself. But the Democrats need to not throw every Progressive idea into the pot at once. Morons on the right will get the shit scared out of them. They need to do Medicare For All and maybe increasing Social Security to get the older American vote and maybe something with student loans to win over younger people. That's it! Throw in reparations and giving every American 1000 bucks a month and some other things is too much. They need to cool it even on guns. Anyone who votes for a Democrat knows some kind of gun reform will happen if we get the Senate back too. They don't have to throw it in the maniacs faces. I hate to say this but they need to stay away from immigration too. Again, just let them win and if we get that Senate, and many people don't realize how important that is, all will get fixed.

by Anonymousreply 239September 14, 2019 5:53 PM

Warren is completely issues-driven. She stays out of personal attacks and doesn't directly engage the other candidates.

It's obviously the right approach, because her numbers just continue to go up as she stays on message.

by Anonymousreply 240September 14, 2019 6:10 PM

Nothing Castro said was ageist. And Biden did say it, it was clarified by Sunny Hostin on The View. They're smearing Castro just like they smeared Harris for calling Biden a racist (which she didn't).

Time will tell how much longer these excuses and these smears towards other democrats keep popping up to camouflage Biden's shitty performances and the fact that he doesn't deserve to be the frontrunner at this point. If you can't deal with someone asking you to recall what you said then you are not ready to get into that ring with Trump, for whom there is no gutter low enough that he won't go into to get points.

by Anonymousreply 241September 14, 2019 7:20 PM

Biden is only the front-runner because, inexplicably, he has strong black support.

Every other demographic realizes that he's too elderly and suffering from mental decline to be President.

by Anonymousreply 242September 14, 2019 8:06 PM

[quote]Warren also didn't have a breakout moment, yet she's somehow being declared as the winner of the debate. Sometimes I feel like the pundits decide in advance whom to crown after each debate.

I don't feel like she "won" the debate (I feel like anyone who held their own did) but she didn't come out looking too bad either. No one really "attacked" her as much as they levied their assaults towards Bernie. She got lucky that they're so similar.

The issue is that with debates it's a turn off for some when people are too aggressive (Castro, Beto and previously Harris) just as it's a turnoff for some when people aren't aggressive enough (Mayor Pete and previously many of the people who didn't make it to this one). It's a dividing line where for some it's best to sit in the middle.

She's managed to do that just fine and had the second highest talking time while also avoiding being targeted too often or going after anyone in particular.

by Anonymousreply 243September 14, 2019 8:18 PM

[quote]No one really "attacked" her as much as they levied their assaults towards Bernie. She got lucky that they're so similar.

It's not luck. She's using their similarity to her advantage, by strategically letting Bernie be the punching bag while she stays above it and looks Presidential.

by Anonymousreply 245September 14, 2019 9:49 PM

by Anonymousreply 248September 15, 2019 1:03 AM

R248 = Republican War Room

by Anonymousreply 249September 15, 2019 1:26 AM

I think that Biden has early stages of dementia. He keeps forgetting things and he called Bernie President.

by Anonymousreply 250September 15, 2019 2:52 AM

2/3 of the American people support Medicare for All. Because 2/3 of the American people support either Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren and this is their signature Policy. Also, Climate Change Policy.

Only 1/3 support Joe Biden and his policies.

These are polls done with both register republicans and democrats. If you polls just registered democrats, the support for Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren and their policies, it is very high support and intention to vote for wither of these two candidates. Medicare for All and Climate Change Policy have broad support among the American people.

by Anonymousreply 251September 15, 2019 2:57 AM

Yeah, on that support for Medicare for all... according to a Kaiser poll, support drops significantly when people hear they will pay more in taxes or lose their private insurance.

by Anonymousreply 252September 15, 2019 3:03 AM

r250, Really? And what would you say about Trump and his dementia?

by Anonymousreply 253September 15, 2019 3:22 AM

R250 He also called Booker the President, then corrected himself to the Future President, then corrected himself again to Senator in the July debates.

I thought that Biden started out okay, but was a rambling mess toward the end, with his talk of radios and record players. I understand that he was trying to talk about exposing children to words, but it just came across as nonsense.

I worry what will happen if he gets the nomination. I will vote for him, but I just don't see him performing strongly against Trump in the debates that will need to happen leading up to the general.

by Anonymousreply 254September 15, 2019 3:22 AM

R253 Democrats called Trump supporters stupid for ignoring Trump's dementia.

What do you call Democrats who ignored Biden's dementia?

by Anonymousreply 255September 15, 2019 3:31 AM

Medicare for All is a great policy. Wall street is trying to defeat this policy, along with Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. Support for Medicare for All is high, among people who understand it. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren can both articulate this policy clearly to the American people. You can say support is high and will increase.

by Anonymousreply 256September 15, 2019 3:38 AM

My guess is that when it comes down to it, no matter which Dem is president, we'll end up starting off with Medicare for All Who Want It and depending on public reaction, move gradually, if ever, to Medicare for All. That doesn't mean I fault Warren and Sanders for advocating for a single-payer system, or think them insincere, I just don't believe anyone will be able to push through Medicare for All, with no private insurance option, in the near future.

by Anonymousreply 257September 15, 2019 3:53 AM

Kamala basically rules the realm that Joe is running on. She has detailed plans and can speak to them without constantly putting her foot in her mouth. Pete is a similar policy ticket - if a bit less detailed. Biden is loved, should be loved and always will be loved - but he is just not running on all cylinders these days. I will vote Dem down the line no matter what and no matter WHO is becomes the ticket. The white male thing makes sense from a "popularity" standpoint - BUT IT SHOULD NOT. Why can we not embrace a beautiful, brilliant, cognitive, well-spoken black woman or a lovely, brilliant, Ivy league educated, veteran gay man? I get why they are both issues, but how sad. All of that said, Joe is just not the best candidate here.

by Anonymousreply 258September 15, 2019 4:30 AM

The Dem party shitting all over Castro is one of the most blatant displays of racism [from the Left] against Hispanics in recent years. I would say not since the early 90s when the infamous Prop 187 passed and certain Democrats quietly joined the racist GOPers in their pursuit of removing Mexicans out of California. Lol fools! Mexicans were always part of the Southwest.

It’s obscene how much they are protecting Biden. Biden and Bernie are too old to be running for president. Let Kamala, Beto, Cory, Pete, and Andrew take over.

by Anonymousreply 259September 15, 2019 5:17 AM
