So the other shoes we have to look forward to dropping this week are the Epstein unsealing and the second tier DoJ Treason Team pressing for the illegal Census question.

Has Rachel announced who the mystery company is? How many million is the fine up to?

We have Mueller on deck on the 17th, but what about Felix? Has he recovered yet?

What about Felix?

The new requirement to register before posting seems to be keeping the trolls away. IMHO, that seems to be a large part of the slowdown in the thread. It is very pleasant. Now hopefully we’ll have what to post about this week.

That Twitter link isn't loading for me.

Frankly, Facebook and Twitter are part of the problem.

Zuckerberg and others knew. Profit and political ideology "trumped" ethics and responsibility.

by Anonymousreply 12July 8, 2019 1:27 PM

If Trump is directly implicated in the Epstein scandal, then there will be Senate Republicans, and donors like the Kochs and the Mercers who'll turn on him. The main thing is that McConnell could be faced with a rebellion that will cause him to either give up his leadership position or change his tune and get on board with impeachment. The media could be very helpful on this, if they chose. Because it will be the media that impacts public opinion, and brings pressure to bear on donors, voters and Congress.

They can pretend they're talking about "E-mails!" And fry Trump and anyone in his orbit....like Lindsey, who will very likely be among the first to jump ship. Just remember. In all these cases, they already know shit the media is just now discovering and publishing . Bet Trump is ripping Fox up because of their coverage of Epstein. I think Barr & Acosta hoped to limit the damage to Epstein, and kill it, but it is not going away. And honestly, this is the media's wet dream. A Sex scandal involving powerful, famous people? Sheee-it.

by Anonymousreply 13July 8, 2019 2:04 PM

R13, everything you say makes sense, but I have trouble reconciling how Barr did not kill this investigation like he has done the Mueller investigation.

by Anonymousreply 14July 8, 2019 2:13 PM

So is the consensus that Trump Model Management was in cahoots with Epstein and/or trafficking in girls as well? Birds of a feather?

by Anonymousreply 15July 8, 2019 2:21 PM

[quote]If Trump is directly implicated in the Epstein scandal, then there will be Senate Republicans, and donors like the Kochs and the Mercers who'll turn on him.

I have no idea why you would think they would do that. Nothing in their history with Drumpf has indicated they'll ever abandon him.

by Anonymousreply 16July 8, 2019 2:24 PM

[quote]I have no idea why you would think they would do that

Bear in mind that they're politicians first and last. They're going to protect themselves first. If Trump becomes too toxic, if they feel that supporting him would endanger their own futures, many of them would feel free to turn against him.

There isn't even one good apple, is there, r20?

by Anonymousreply 21July 8, 2019 3:35 PM

Mercers? Kochs? Adelson? A bunch of others?

It's all about corporate profits, access to cheap migrant workers, raping the environments, not paying taxes, supporting voter suppression and tampering, deregulating anything in their way, and appointing pro-corporate/big banking judges that are hands-off on monopolies and their exploiting practices.

Bones are tossed to the Trump base that are anti-choice, pro-guns, and pro-discrimination in the name of their "religious freedom". It is Gorsuch overload.

Trump & McConnell have delivered for the mega-donors.

At least the SDNY was good enough to arrest Jeffery Epstein over the weekend so that it didn't overshadow Mueller's testimony on Wednesday.

I think it is a pretty simple message to get some of his supporters to reject Trump. You've been sold a bill of goods..that tax cut went to corporations. What did they do with it, bought back stock and lined their pockets. You've been had and you continue to be had by this grifter administration.

AP: House panel releases written answers from ex-Trump official

****

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House Judiciary Committee says a former Trump administration official who was a vital witness in special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation was blocked by the White House from answering more than 200 of its questions.

The Democratic-led panel on Monday released written responses provided by Annie Donaldson, who served as chief of staff to former White House counsel Don McGahn.

Mueller interviewed Donaldson as he examined potential obstruction of justice by Trump. Mueller's report repeatedly references handwritten notes Donaldson took of key moments.

Donaldson agreed to answer questions in writing from the Judiciary Committee. But the panel notes that for more than 200 questions, she replied that the White House had instructed her not to answer because of "constitutionally-based Executive Branch confidentiality interests that are implicated."

r50 And that is the "give up" trolls. Not saying 50 is a troll but it is right to push the Dems but understand they aren't just sitting by idly. They have frickin' Mueller testifying next week. I'm sure a lot of their prep is going into that.

Not to beat a dead horse with the Epstein situation, but Cuomo signed the tax release bill today. Did he also sign the double jeopardy reform bill and they just aren’t publishing it? I don’t know why’d he sign one and not the other.

My understanding is that Epstein is in NY a lot. Why’d SDNY wait to charge him until now? Kiddie diddling across state lines is a federal Mann Act violation. Kiddie diddling within a state is a state crime. Is the timing of the charge vis a vis the change to NYS law significant?

by Anonymousreply 53July 9, 2019 3:37 AM

by Anonymousreply 56July 9, 2019 3:41 AM

was reading twitter...Laura Ingraham on her show was talking about a "discrepancy" in how many times Clinton may have flown with Epstein vs. what he said but NO MENTION of Epstein's friendship with Trump or connection to Barr or even Acosta

just fucking pathetic

by Anonymousreply 60July 9, 2019 4:23 AM

What do you expect from fux noise, r60? They are nothing but lickspittle state propaganda and nobody with a functioning brain cell pays attention to their endless lies.

by Anonymousreply 61July 9, 2019 4:46 AM

[quote] Why’d SDNY wait to charge him until now?

Perhaps because Dershowitz and the Miami Herald won the lawsuit to force open the Epstein records. Time for SDNY to CYA.

In light of the District Court’s failure to conduct an individualized review of the sealed materials, it is necessary to do so now. We believe the District Court is best situated to conduct this review. The District Court can directly communicate with the parties, and can, therefore, more swiftly and thoroughly consider particular objections to unsealing specific materials. Relatedly, the District Court can obtain the parties’ assistance in effecting any necessary redactions, and in notifying any outside parties whose privacy interests might be implicated by the unsealing. Accordingly, we remand the cause to the District Court to conduct such a particularized review and unseal all documents for which the presumption of public access outweighs any countervailing privacy interests.

Yahoo News is reporting that the Seth Rich conspiracy theory -- which Fox News vigorously promoted -- was planted by Russia's foreign intelligence service.

by Anonymousreply 70July 9, 2019 12:59 PM

There are already 2,400+ reactions to that article. I can only imagine their content: you see, the deplorables still get their news from Yahoo! (and AOL, that's where their email addresses still are in 2019) so they must all be up in arms. I can only imagine the level of cognitive dissonance it causes in their twisted little minds: "Fake news! Fake news! Fake news! I'm boycotting Yahoo! from now on and will get my email address from Fox News!"

Oh, BTW, good luck getting that contract employment using those domain names. If I were working in HR today, any CV showing an aol, yahoo or, God forbid, foxnews email address (is there such a thing though?) would go straight in the trash can. Criteria #1 not fulfilled.

it's downright infuriating that Fox and Hannity have NEVER been held accountable for pushing that disgusting conspiracy theory. I hope this story blows the fuck up big time.

by Anonymousreply 73July 9, 2019 2:00 PM

and the way the mainstream media only briefly mentioned the scandal before letting it go. Fox should be bashed every fucking day for their disgraceful conduct. They have lied to and brainwashed millions of Americans

by Anonymousreply 74July 9, 2019 2:04 PM

It ought to concern everyone that Fox has de facto become an organ of Russian Intelligence's Disinformation Campaign. And it didn't happen overnight.

The reason I posited way back in this thread or some related thread that maybe the GOP Congress would turn on Trump if it can be shown he was part of the Epstein filth, is because I saw how they all (or most of them) shunned Roy Moore. The Epstein stuff, if presented correctly by the media....meaning in graphic detail, will repel most voters, and anyone in Congress who doesn't feel the full weight of public outrage is nuts. I'd love it if there are photos of Trump with some little girl who eventually went public with rape charges.

by Anonymousreply 75July 9, 2019 2:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 104July 9, 2019 6:22 PM

The Southern conservative Dems were ruthless. This is your modern day GOP.

by Anonymousreply 106July 9, 2019 6:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 149July 10, 2019 1:32 PM

I really hope the Dems push back on this narrative that the Dems have ignored the plight of "middle America" or the "hearthland" whatever the fuck that is supposed to be.

Since 2000, the Dems have really only had complete control of things for two years, 2009 and 2010. The GOP, OTOH, had complete control 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2017 and 2018.

When the Dems had complete control, they were saving us from an economy is complete meltdown in 2009. The Dems then gave us a stimulus, and actually did something about healthcare- ACA. Sadly, everyone hated until they loved it thanks for GOP and conservative smears and lies. They then lost the House in the midterms and all progress was halted.

What has the GOP done for the "heartland"? They gave, what, about 5 tax cuts for the rich and deregulation. Same old recipe of failed economic policies. We actually have an exploding deficit during a great economy. That is fucked up beyond belief.

So when the next debate happens, and the moderators ask about the great economy, they need to him back hard. We had a great 90's economy thanks solely to the Dems and their 1993 budget which was left unchanged until 2001. They need to point out how fiscally insane the GOP is. We have an exploding deficit under a booming economy thanks to their recklessness. We will not be able to spend our way out of another recession. The GOP has done nothing to help the average person. The Dems haven't have enough governing time to actually do much and when they did, they were cleaning up another GOP mess and actually doing something about healthcare. All the GOP will ever do is the same old tired, failed economic policies.

r151 She had a smart answer on Jake Tapper yesterday about some comments she made about how she felt his election was like 9/11 and how she would relate to the KY voter.

She said he was so divisive and nasty. She fought for this country and hated to see what he was doing to it.

Also, she said she understood the motivation behind the T voter- they were frustrated- but McConnell has betrayed them by halting some things Pres Bone Spurs could have worked on with Dems like infrastructure. She said McC was all about politics and stood in the way of progress even the Dems could work on with Pres Bone Spurs.

Yeah, I know it is bullshit in a way but very deft at answering the question. Tapper tried to get her to say she was a pro-T Dem and she deftly dodged that (because obviously she is not) by saying she was there to get McC out so we could make progress.

Fuck a duck. WHY?!?!

---

A federal appeals court Wednesday sided with President Trump, dismissing a lawsuit claiming the president is illegally profiting from foreign and state government visitors at his luxury hotel in downtown Washington.

The unanimous ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit is a victory for the president in a novel case brought by the attorneys general of Maryland and the District of Columbia involving anti-corruption provisions in the emoluments clauses of the U.S. Constitution.

The president is facing series of legal challenges related to his private business, including a separate lawsuit from Congressional Democrats. The emoluments clauses at issue in the 4th Circuit case were designed to prevent undue influence on government officials but have never been applied in court to a sitting president.

‘Mother Is Not Going to Like This’: The 48 Hours That Almost Brought Down Trump

Politico Magazine has published an excerpt from a forthcoming book about Trump and the GOP by journalist Tim Alberta. It includes these tidbits regarding Trump's Access Hollywood tape:

After the tape became public, scores of top Republican lawmakers, donors and activists — far more than did so publicly — privately urged then-Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus to push Trump out and replace him with Vice President Pence at the top of the ticket. This included then-House Speaker Paul Ryan.

Pence hunkered down and prayed with his wife, Karen, who furiously warned him that she would no longer appear in public if Pence remained Trump’s running mate. Pence hinted to advisers that he might have to stop campaigning with Trump.

But the key revelation is what happened next. At the next debate with Hillary Clinton, Trump ferociously attacked back, blasting Bill Clinton’s history with women and even threatening to unleash law enforcement on Hillary Clinton, saying that with him as president, Clinton would “be in jail.”

Within 48 hours the bleeding had stopped: Republicans ceased their calls for his withdrawal, Pence dutifully returned to the stump and his campaign went on as though nothing had happened.

The border issue is to resolved Friday by Lindsey. Mike Pence will be traveling with Lindsey to the border facilities. Lindsey helped Ivanka resolve women issues in Africa. Just a few days ago, Lindsey traveled with Bill Barr to South Carolina. to fix the federal prison system.

Lindsey is an expert on everything. That's why the media features Lindsey daily. And Lindsey is not selfish about the accomplishments. Lindsey gives Trump credit and praise for everything.

The only concern may be from 'Mother'; unless she is traveling along with them to the border, then all will be fine.

Ok, why the fuck are most Republican politicians so fucking old and repulsive? Not just ugly but utterly repulsive?

by Anonymousreply 196July 11, 2019 2:03 PM

From Fox of all places: Trump rails against ‘Fake News’ in bizarre tirade, warns industry will fold when he leaves office

“The White House will be hosting a very big and very important Social Media Summit today. Would I have become President without Social Media? Yes (probably)! At its conclusion, we will all go to the beautiful Rose Garden for a News Conference on the Census and Citizenship,” Trump began. “A big subject today at the White House Social Media Summit will be the tremendous dishonesty, bias, discrimination and suppression practiced by certain companies. We will not let them get away with it much longer. The Fake News Media will also be there, but for a limited period.”

He continued: “The Fake News is not as important, or as powerful, as Social Media. They have lost tremendous credibility since that day in November, 2016, that I came down the escalator with the person who was to become your future First Lady,” Trump tweeted. (The president apparently confused his dates, as the escalator ride he referenced happened in June 2015 when he announced his presidential bid.)

“When I ultimately leave office in six years, or maybe 10 or 14 (just kidding), they will quickly go out of business for lack of credibility, or approval, from the public. That’s why they will all be Endorsing me at some point, one way or the other.”

“Could you imagine having Sleepy Joe Biden, or @AlfredENeuman99 or a very nervous and skinny version of Pocahontas (1000/24th), as your President, rather than what you have now, so great looking and smart, a true Stable Genius!” Trump tweeted. “Sorry to say that even Social Media would be driven out of business along with, and finally, the Fake News Media!”

by Anonymousreply 216July 11, 2019 7:42 PM

From r215: "Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao has used her office to steer grants to Kentucky, the state represented by her husband, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell:

The Transportation Department under Secretary Elaine Chao designated a special liaison to help with grant applications and other priorities from her husband Mitch McConnell’s state of Kentucky, paving the way for grants totaling at least $78 million for favored projects as McConnell prepared to campaign for reelection. Chao’s aide Todd Inman, who stated in an email to McConnell’s Senate office that Chao had personally asked him to serve as an intermediary, helped advise the senator and local Kentucky officials on grants with special significance for McConnell—including a highway-improvement project in a McConnell political stronghold that had been twice rejected for previous grant applications.

Chao was also in the news recently for boosting her family’s shipping company, which has deep ties to China.

It is, as The Washington Post’s Paul Waldman noted on Monday, “utterly mundane.” But it’s been repeated again and again during the administration, with both relative newcomers to government and veterans like Chao using their offices to benefit themselves and their families."

R230 The constitution sets the requirements for running for office. But the states are allowed to set ballot access as they see fit (which is why we had the voting rights act). Two completely different things.

by Anonymousreply 236July 12, 2019 3:08 AM

R236, ballot access put the requirements/onus on the voters, not the nominee. This actually restricts the candidates, putting an additional requirement that is not in the Constitution,, so I do question whether it’s constitutional. I asked in another thread—any legal eagles who can explain if this is ok? It would really be great if it was, and other states should follow. But what’s to prevent states like Georgia from passing onerous requirements that work against a Democratic candidate?

by Anonymousreply 237July 12, 2019 3:19 AM

[quote]But what’s to prevent states like Georgia from passing onerous requirements that work against a Democratic candidate?

by Anonymousreply 238July 12, 2019 3:28 AM

just a question...does anyone know if during the Michael Cohen hearing, if any Democratic House member asked him if he helped Trump pay off more women than just Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal? I looked and can't find that answer. If not, that's something they should have asked. I'm willing to bet there were more than 2 women given how many accusers he has

by Anonymousreply 239July 12, 2019 3:29 AM

He told his extremist "media" types today that he will go at the citizenship question "in other ways. There are other ways to get the information." He has backed away from his Executive Order (it's illegal) and instead he announced that every single cabinet level department and every federal agency that has anything related to citizenship information, must sent it all to the Department of Commerce. So he is not backing down on his intention to manipulate information to guarantee a epub;ican dominance for the next decade.

Get the fuck off Pelosi's back. Right now, there are 86 members of Congress favoring Impeachment. We need 218. So yeah, call your member of Congress, and start leaning on the fucking Republicans too. We need a fucking grassroots effort. The way he is threatening these raids with ICE, and the detention camps, if that shit isn't an abuse of power WTF is?

Raise hell. All the scrutiny on the detention camps is having an effect. Some of them have opened their doors to the media and starting to clean the facilities and serve hot food. It's a small thing, but shit. Exposing the contractors and the profiteers who are involved is important and we can't walk away. We have to keep up thep pressure and the focus. Contact all the media and tell them how concerned you are and how much you are appreciating their coverage. Keep up the pressure.

Our days of being spectators because we had competent, ethical people in charge, are over. We have to be hands on.

by Anonymousreply 240July 12, 2019 3:30 AM

R238 it could be anything—require Biden to release transcripts of dealings with his son. Just worried about the ways it could be used by both sides. That’s why I think it’s unconstitutional.

by Anonymousreply 241July 12, 2019 3:31 AM

Well, a requirement like that would apply to Trump too. They couldn't just single out Biden and make that requirement apply only to him. So if they want to require Biden to release transcripts of dealings with his son, then we'll finally get to see all of the illegal activity Don Jr and Ivanka have been up to.

by Anonymousreply 242July 12, 2019 3:36 AM

Here are the requirements an Independent candidate must meet to appear on the presidential ballot in Texas, for example:

[quote]An independent candidate may obtain access to the general election ballot by filing a petition and application with the secretary of state. The petition must contain signatures equaling at least 1 percent of the total votes cast for all candidates in the previous presidential election. The application and petition must be submitted no later than the second Monday in May of the election year.

So, it appears that states have the ability to set requirements that a candidate must meet in order to be listed on a ballot. I would think requiring tax returns as part of the application process could be allowable and constitutional.

by Anonymousreply 243July 12, 2019 3:49 AM

R242, that’s true, but do you see my point? They are adding requirements, which can only be done by the Constitution, probably partly to prevent scenarios like this. Before we jump for joy, we should be prepared for this to be litigated for sure.

by Anonymousreply 244July 12, 2019 3:52 AM

R234 it’s a fine line to me but I hope you’re right. where are our legal experts tonight? Happy hour?

by Anonymousreply 245July 12, 2019 3:54 AM

If the states didn't have the ability to set requirements to limit who can be on a ballot, couldn't thousands or even millions of people say they are running for president and demand to be listed on the ballot?

R192 is one of many stealth trolls in here of the QAnon type who are trying to rope Bill Clinton in any which way they can on the Epstein thread, so beware.

[quote]I find it hard to believe that someone with Clinton's horn dog history was hands off on Epstein's island. But even if he were, he would have been a witness to Epstein's criminal behavior, and I also find it hard to believe that Clinton wouldn't have been well aware of that before ever stepping foot on the island. But he kept mum and associated with Epstein anyway. Using the risible excuse that the well-known great compassionate humanitarian Epstein was simply providing the Clinton Foundation with the use of his plane.

[quote]What a crock. Betting Trump isn't the only one sweating bullets.

[quote]But surely Clinton KNEW that raping of underage girls was going on on that island, r305 - he was there, which means he had to have turned a blind eye to it. He continued to accept favors from Epstein regardless.

[quote]That makes Clintonomplicit, AFAIC. Yes, I know the Clintons have been targeted by outrageous false wingnut claims. But I'm talking about Clinton's own documented behavior here. He accepted favors from a known pedophile, and at best did nothing to protect the girls he had to have known were being illegally exploited. I'm not accusing Clinton of being a pedophile, but there were certainly women on that island who were of age, too. Clinton's history with Lewinsky and Paula Jones (to mention two) is sordid and indefensible enough that I'm not inclined to give him much benefit of the doubt on this issue.

These are the kinds of people pretending to be on our side here but in other threads, they act their real agendas.

Nothing new, but Pence's statements today really emphasize what a fake and evil man he is as he shrouds himself as a Christian. I would love the Pope to call him out personally - although I doubt he is that attached to his old Catholism to care

Nor has anyone in the administration said one word about the victims in the Jeffrey Epstein case. Not one word. They just talk about themselves and how they’re being picked on.

by Anonymousreply 301July 13, 2019 2:49 AM

That is not true about the Epstein case, Trump did say how badly Acosta suffered because of it.

Donald Barr, William Barr's dad, hired Jeffrey Epstein to teach at Dalton without a college degree.

Turns out: a. he was using Epstein as his wingman for students; b. Barr was writing sex slavery porn while running the school.

Holy shit, R303. You can't make this stuff up.

by Anonymousreply 304July 13, 2019 3:38 AM

What I regret is that this stuff is coming out now. The shock and the revulsion will dissipate by 2020. I'd love it if we were talking about this in January of 2020. Or June of 2020.

by Anonymousreply 305July 13, 2019 3:40 AM

R305, I'm sure we'll have plenty to talk about in January and June of 2020...or are you just trolling "concern"?

Trump on the debate stage with a Democratic nominee who challenges every action of his administration will be a sight to behold. I see a mike drop and storm off the stage within the first half hour of the first debate (by Trump, in case any trolls are confused about that).

by Anonymousreply 306July 13, 2019 3:59 AM

Does anybody seriously think Trumpito is going to actually participate in debates??

I mean, seriously.

by Anonymousreply 307July 13, 2019 4:18 AM

R306 Trump isn't going to debate any Democratic nominee. His skin is so thin now and his ego is so large, there is no way in hell that his advisers are going to let him on a stage with real journalists who will ask hard questions - let alone a Democratic nominee like Kamala Harris who would destroy him. He lost all three debates with Hillary and these past years have only made him worse. No way in hell he's on a debate stage.

by Anonymousreply 308July 13, 2019 4:19 AM

(CNN) A federal investigation into whether Trump Organization executives violated campaign-finance laws appears to be wrapping up without charges being filed, according to people familiar with the matter.

For months, federal prosecutors in New York have examined whether company officials broke the law, including in their effort to reimburse Michael Cohen for hush-money payments he made to women alleging affairs with his former boss, President Donald Trump.

In recent weeks, however, their investigation has quieted, the people familiar with the inquiry said, and prosecutors now don't appear poised to charge any Trump Organization executives in the probe that stemmed from the case against Cohen.

by Anonymousreply 309July 13, 2019 5:57 AM

Probably more bullshit from Trump's own lawyers, R309.

by Anonymousreply 310July 13, 2019 6:59 AM

Probably next week by the sounds of it.

by Anonymousreply 313July 13, 2019 8:47 AM

What it means IMO is that the Accountant who knows everything has cooperated with the feds.

On one hand I cannot see Trump debating with anyone because he is so thin skinned. OTOH, I can't see him turning down a chance to be on TV with tens of millions watching. His base wants red meat. His ego will not allow him to turn his back on the opportunity. He may tease about the possibility of not debating, but in the end he will. Maybe twice. That would satisfy his base and his ego.

by Anonymousreply 314July 13, 2019 11:03 AM

Forgot to say that it may depend on who the nominee is. He is not scared of Biden. Or Bernie. He is scared of Pete, Kamala and especially Elizabeth. And one who is knowledgeable and who knows how to get their point across.

by Anonymousreply 315July 13, 2019 11:05 AM

Lame nickname for Pete and Nancy = he’s scared.

No nickname for Kamala = he’s really scared

by Anonymousreply 316July 13, 2019 11:12 AM

The nickname he'll find for Kamala will be of the dog whistling kind and you know it.

When he named Omaraso "that dog", you know that was dog whistling to his racist fanbase for the N word.

When he called Maxine Waters "low IQ", for no particular reason at all, that was also dog whistling to his fanbase.

And Trump calling someone else "low IQ" is fucking rich. He's probably the first "stable genius" who doesn't know he's a deranged man-toddler with an IQ of 75. And I'm being generous.

by Anonymousreply 317July 13, 2019 1:16 PM

Oh I'm sure that Kamala Harris will be more than ready to clap back at Trump.

On an MSNBC interview this week Harris repeatedly criticized Trump for being "unable to perform". In context she was talking about his performance as a president, with the sexual overtones just DANGLING.

by Anonymousreply 318July 13, 2019 1:26 PM

Kamala is a bitch and that might just be exactly what we need to go against Trump.

Hillary was perceived as a bitch, but she really wasn't much of one in retrospect.

But Kamala is the real thing.

Trump is still using the nickname Pocahontas for Warren. She took the bait before, and the consequences were not good.

Sanders can be easily mocked by Republicans. They haven't unloaded on him yet. Sanders was an asset to them in 2016, and is still being so.

Pete and Harris won't allow Trump to successfully label them. They know how tobzing back.

One-on-one with Trump, don't underestimate Biden when it is older white male vs older white male. It is uncomfortable for Biden to go on personal attacks vs primary candidates that are women and/or black or other non-whites. Biden will ultimately need their support for the general election.

Biden will be able to push Trump's buttons during a debate to make him unhinged and rage. Biden should focus on the point that Trump was not legitimately elected in 2016, and emphasize Trump is owned by Putin. That gets Trump furious and off script.

I met with my Congressional source today (meaning we fucked and then there was some pillow talk afterwards). Here are some scoops:

The reports that Mueller’s hearing has been moved to July 24th are not accurate and are premature. There has been no official agreement reached about this. The agreement for July 17th is technically still on the table and Mueller has stood very firmly (this is non-negotiable) that he will make himself available for five hours, no more and no less. One of the problems right now is that between the Judiciary and Intel committees, there are 61 people who want to ask questions. Rather than everyone getting a chance to ask a question, they might select a certain group of members to ask all the questions.

There is a lot of discussion right now about the space where the hearing will take place. Judiciary “owns” the hearing room so they are asserting more control. Intel doesn’t have their own room. They are literally debating about what the temperature of the room will be. Nadler could just hold onto the original July 17th date and hold the Judiciary portion then since it’s what Mueller has already agreed to.

Mueller does not want to testify and is apparently afraid of being shunned by his Republican friends if he is viewed as the person who “too down the president.” He is trying to do the bare minimum here and just fade back into private life without too much personal blowback.

Mueller’s agreement to meet this Wednesday still technically stands. Nadler has even floated the idea of keeping this Wednesday as the date and having Mueller just show up because at least Mueller has already agreed to this and that means Judiciary will have the room and not have to compete with Intel for those precious five hours (which is not enough time to allow for 61 people to ask questions).

On Impeachment: Nancy does not want to impeach. She is hoping that they can just wait the next year out and then have Trump be voted out of office overwhelmingly by the American people. My friend seemed to be very concerned about whether or not we will even still have a Constitutional democracy at that point.

The Democrats have NO PLAN whatsoever for how to deal with the debt ceiling crisis coming our way. There have been no meetings about it at all.

My buddy stated very clearly that he believes Trump will eventually be in prison when this is all over. But there was also something interesting about how the GOP is going to have to decide when they can distance themselves from Trump.

One of his co-workers went to one of the migrant detention centers this week. She said that almost nobody there spoke Spanish and she did so she wanted to talk to the younger children and try to get information. She wanted to hug them and gain their trust but she said that the smell of their unwashed bodies was so strong, it literally overpowered her.

This debt ceiling thing is going to bite everyone in the ass. It's coming up much faster than anyone has realized.

Pelosi needs to open her eyes. The same stupid, hateful schmucks who voted for this fool will be out in force in 2020. They need to open an impeachment inquiry to get the info they need and to drag all of this traitor's crimes to the light.

Someone needs to start holding these traitors accountable for burning our intelligence assets and selling out the country instead of simply pearl clutching and talking about their concerns.

by Anonymousreply 333July 13, 2019 6:15 PM

R331, there is still some discussion and maneuvering going on about this behind closed doors no matter what committees are stating publicly or what’s being reported.

by Anonymousreply 334July 13, 2019 6:19 PM

by Anonymousreply 347July 13, 2019 10:11 PM

Well Trump did promise to put more people to work, and I bet there are hardly any unemployed lawyers in the DC area.

by Anonymousreply 348July 13, 2019 10:29 PM

I would love for Trump to be impeached and removed from office, but there is no way enough Republican Senators are going to vote to remove him. Plus there is a possibility that, GOD forbid, that Trump wins re-election. Attempting to impeach him a second time would be even harder than the first time, he would feel invincible and would probably be violating every law he felt like. I think it would be wise to hold back impeachment for his second term if that happens.

by Anonymousreply 349July 13, 2019 10:36 PM

Did your friend happen to mention that there are only 86 members of the House in favor of starting Impeachment proceedings? It takes 218. Of course Nancy would not favor starting the fucking process with just 86 votes.

As for Mueller, yes they announced the hearing date change already, so that's a done deal. And I seriously doubt the Mueller we all know, gives a rat's ass about pleasing his Republican friends.

Mueller has transcended political affiliation in recent years because at his age, his personal reputation has much less to do with conforming to the Neo Fascist anti Constitution bigots and whores that populate his former party, and much more to do with his personal legacy.

He has been watching Barr lie and piss over him and all the hard working capable people on his team for months. He may not want to join the battle, but he should have never accepted the job if that were the case. He is an experienced politician. He understood what he was doing when he took the job.

And you know what, no man who writes the words "If we could have exonerated the President we would have..." is worried about taking down a President who actively conspired with a foreign adversary, and then obstructed justice and tampered with witnesses.

by Anonymousreply 350July 13, 2019 10:44 PM

[quote]Nancy does not want to impeach. She is hoping that they can just wait the next year out and then have Trump be voted out of office overwhelmingly by the American people. We certainly don't have a Constitutional democracy if our elected officials refuse to hold high-placed criminals accountable for their crimes. Impeachment may be hard, and conviction in the Senate implausible, but this typical Democratic strategy of not making waves and just letting things go back to normal is giving us a de facto plutocracy.

I'll say it again. Nancy only has 86 votes because that is all who are willing to go against her wishes. If she said she was for impeachment almost the entire caucus would be with her. Basically, what she is saying is that she will not be for impeachment until the majority of her caucus goes against her wishes and publicly supports impeachment. That won't happen because of her position. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. She be for impeachment when her party defies her wishes and supports impeachment. That doesn't make any sense.

There's no guarantee this fucking bastard won't be reelected. The Democrats will be even more afraid to impeach in a second term because repubs could claim the public is with Trump even though he'll lose the popular vote again

by Anonymousreply 361July 14, 2019 5:28 AM

Statistically, it's next to impossible for Trump to be re-elected. His 2016 victory was a fluke of the electoral college. 70k well positioned (by the Russians???) were the winning factor. After three years of his mess of an administration, he's not winning any new votes. Anecdotally, we're not seeing evidence of new people jumping on the Trump bandwagon but hear of many people (farmers, women) who regret their vote. In 2016, Trump got a fair number of hispanic votes as well as women. I have to believe with his policies, those two categories are less for Trump 2020. That's not saying the Russia or China or North Korea won't try to tilt the field...

by Anonymousreply 362July 14, 2019 5:38 AM

R362 Many believe, as do I, he wasn't elected the first time. Legitimately anyway. But unless at least 5 crucial states switch over to paper balloting, he'll be "elected" again.

That number is 77,744. Never forget it. And yes, I believe this President was delivered by Russia. Well, Biden is a known entity. China, RUssia, etc. they may not be upset with a Biden Presidency and might not work too hard to stop him.

Since I have worked for a member of Congress (Two and a half years.) and I have worked in a state legislative office ( 4 years) and I have worked in government in a cabinet level department (HHS) I can tell you this. Nancy Pelosi might come out for impeachment but it would NOT mean the rest of her Caucus would follow.

From what I've read and seen, Nancy is not AGAINST impeachment. She is just very aware of the struggle to get to 218. She would weaken herself if she were to come out for Impeachment gung ho, when she doesn't even have enough support in her own caucus. It is a gamble she is unwilling to take. It is not appropriate for her to handle it that way. You want the House to impeach then call the members who are not supporting impeachment and pressure them. Nancy is not a magician. She is not God. She cannot create gold from straw.

My friends in DC say it isn't that the Dems are doing nothing or diddling around- they are overwhelmed by design. This administration is engaging in unprecedented stonewalling, evasion, norm and rule breaking. The Dems have so much to go after and the one area that is slowing them down is what to go after and in what order. They also have to govern. If any of you understood who committees and all of that work, it is not cut and dry. They fight over who has authority to do what. It is very complicated. This administration is doing things that are wholly outside the realm of normal. Yes, the Dems are frustrated as hell. They are letting all of this drip drip drip out until they lower the boom. Unfortunately, they need time. They wish they could do this faster but their jobs, already difficult because Dems actually want to govern, have not been made easier. An entire, sans one, political party is aiding and abetting this demon which makes this so much more tricky.

Again, we all said things would get worse before better. We are in worse and, judging by his despicable tweets today, things will only get worse until it is over. His tweets were to distract again.

by Anonymousreply 385July 14, 2019 11:52 PM

Thanks.

I can tell you that, beyond actually having proof myself, my friends and their bosses believe votes were change in Pres Bone Spur's favor. How to respond to that is tricky (also saying it aloud to the media is tricky and something they will not do) and my friends assured they've heard things are being looked at with the IC. Again, our dear supreme leader and his party are dragging their feet. They lack hard proof as far as voting machine records. The IC knows and we all know they got into our systems. For what? For shits and giggles? No. They changed votes. I WILL report if I hear of any specific thing they do to thwart it provided they are told.

Many of them, and others in DC, read this thread (when they can) because I told them to or my friends told others to.

I just want everyone frustrated to know the whole process is frustrating for everyone including members of Congress and their staff. They are working insane hours due to all of this.

Trump tweets racists statements, and the only Republican, beyond a few news figures, that I heard spoke up to denounce it, was Meghan McCain. Republicans fear any pubic disagreement with Trump.

Paul Ryan waits months after leaving office to express he was disturbed about Trump's behavior, and he does it for his book. It may have cost him as House Speaker sooner, but he could have shown leadership and honesty when he had real influence.. His complaints ring somewhat hollow now.

The Trump administration on Monday moved to end asylum protections for most Central American migrants in a major escalation of the president’s battle to tamp down the number of people crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.

Asylum seekers who pass through another country first will be ineligible for asylum at the U.S. southern border. The rule, expected to go into effect on Tuesday, also applies to children who have crossed the border alone. This essentially ends asylum protections as they now are on the southern border.

The policy is almost certain to face a legal challenge.

Actually the tweet to the four members of Congress was a strategic, deliberate part of Trump/Republicans' larger political strategy. They will continue to attack them so they can cast all Democrats as part of some radical fringe. Projection writ large.

by Anonymousreply 414July 15, 2019 4:06 PM

I would really like George W. Bush to speak out against this administration in a forceful way. He won't because he's hiding behind this idea that former Presidents shouldn't attack current occupants which is all fine and dandy if the country wasn't being torn apart by this administration. With his father gone and McCain gone he's really the last influential Republican who could stem this bullshit. Clinton obviously can't speak out, Obama has been smart not to get into it with Trump. More Republican family values at work: GOP operative Jason Miller, the former communications chief for the Trump campaign and transition team, said he hired numerous prostitutes and visited “hand job” massage parlors as recently as a few months ago in a new videotaped deposition.

In a written transcript of the deposition obtained by Mediaite, Miller describes the occasions he paid women for sex since 2001. Soliciting prostitution was, and still is, a crime in the cities where Miller admitted to hiring escorts.

The deposition details Miller’s multiple extramarital affairs, including his sexual relationships with two subordinates during the 2016 presidential campaign. His relationship with one of these women, former Trump campaign advisor A.J. Delgado, has been public knowledge since late 2016. But Miller provided new information on a second affair with Catherine Frazier, who worked as a press secretary for Sen. Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign during Miller’s time leading the candidate’s communications operation. The affairs occurred while his wife, Kelly Miller, was pregnant and the two were not legally separated.

We need to take the media to task too. I saw some article about how Trump managed to push the top five Democratic PResidential candidates out of the news cycle and "dominate coverage" compete with charts, and I responded telling them that was the media's fault.

We all know that the media could set the agenda if they wanted to. They've done it before. They could make McConnell and Trump's lives unbearable and they could make a huge issue of the rape charges.

When you look at the fact that we were subjected to 600 straight days of unrelievedly negative coverage of the story of Hillary's e-mails there is no reason why they can't do the same damned thing now. The go after who they want to go after.

They are setting the agenda they want to. Trump gets ratings. Outrage at Trump gets ratings. A second term for Trump will get ratings.

Individual reporters and hosts may be passionately anti-Trump but they don't set the agenda. I vividly remember MSNBC switching from Joy Reid to live coverage of a Trump primary rally -- and she made it clear she wasn't happy about it. MSNBC aired Trump's speech in its entirety. Neither CNN nor Fox did.

A federal judge in New York on Tuesday signed an order permanently blocking the Trump administration from adding a citizenship question to the 2020 census, days after President Trump gave up on his efforts to get such a question on next year's census.

The order, signed by Judge Jesse Furman, was jointly drafted by the parties opposing the citizenship question. It stops administration officials "from including a citizenship question on the 2020 decennial census questionnaire; from delaying the process of printing the 2020 decennial census questionnaire after June 30, 2019 for the purpose of including a citizenship question; and from asking persons about citizenship status on the 2020 census questionnaire or otherwise asking a citizenship question as part of the 2020 decennial census."

The order also states that Furman, an Obama appointee, will be able to enforce the order "until the 2020 census results are processed and sent to the President by December 31, 2020."

Just saw part of Trump's Nuremberg rally on CNN ( I didn't have a choice, the CNN anchor went to it), he has replaced the Hillary chant of "lock her up" with a new one:

He now has his deplorables screaming "send her back" about that one member of the squad who wasn't born here.

He couldn't be any more openly racist.

President Donald Trump kicked things off at his North Carolina rally tonight by touting the House vote late this afternoon against the resolution to impeach him.

“I just heard that the United States House of Representatives has overwhelmingly voted to kill the most ridiculous project I’ve ever been involved in: the resolution —— how stupid is that —— on impeachment,” Trump said.

“I want to thank those Democrats,” he continued, “because many of them voted for us. The vote was a totally lopsided 332-95-1.”

R519, they've been doing that "Democrat Party" thing for 20 years.

R522, I hope the idiotic "Impeach Now!" wahwahwah idiots will start listening to those of us who know that Pelosi knows what the fuck she is doing. They just handed Trump a talking point. People that don't pay much attention to politics will only hear that the House voted on impeaching Trump and it was thoroughly defeated by the votes of both Repugs AND Democrats. Morons.

by Anonymousreply 523July 18, 2019 2:44 AM

Pelosi will never impeach Trump, get off it r523.

by Anonymousreply 524July 18, 2019 3:13 AM

You do know that the true impeachment process usually stops everything else from happening. Congress becomes totally absorbed by it. This would not be about a blow job. Or Semen on a dress. This is about serious criminal wrong doing and even treason. They will have to thoroughly investigate, dot every "i" cross every "t".

They have to hold hearings, demand evidence, and subpoena people. And they will be blocked every step of the way, spending a lot of time in court. Once the hearings are over, the committee will have to draw up articles of impeachment, then vote on them. If they pass a committee vote, they will have to go to the full House for a vote.

It just took two fucking hours of protests, and arguing, and obstructive behavior to get the House to vote to Censure Trump. They were busy attacking Pelosi. So do not doubt for a moment that they will throw every roadblock and stall tactic they can think of into the process. It is a very divisive, time consuming endeavor.

It is especially precarious right now. When Nancy says "the House is not ready for Impeachment" she is not talking about herself. She is talking about the House. Congressman Greene was taking the temperature. In a way, it's good he did. It didn't cost Pelosi anything, and he demonstrated that they aren't there yet.

by Anonymousreply 525July 18, 2019 3:51 AM

Everybody already knew "they weren't there yet". They can count.

by Anonymousreply 526July 18, 2019 3:53 AM

Will be interesting to see what is released by the court tomorrow regarding Cohen and the checks he wrote to the hookers. Rachel did a long piece on it basically saying, "WTF Cohen is the only one going to jail for this?" What about Trump who masterminded the whole thing and Don Jr and old man Weiselman who signed the checks. I can see Barr trying to do something last minute to try to block the court from releasing the evidence.

by Anonymousreply 527July 18, 2019 4:29 AM

Since Barr was held in contempt of congress, wouldn't that be a major issue with the Bar Association. If he is disbarred can he still be head of DOJ?

by Anonymousreply 528July 18, 2019 4:49 AM

So what are the Feds gonna do with El chapo's 12.6 BILLION ill gotten gains? Going into Trump's pockets?

by Anonymousreply 529July 18, 2019 5:17 AM

Slob Barr can't do jack shit about a judge. The judge in the Cohen case said ALL of the underlying documents were to be released.

This was after Barr's lackeys asked the judge to keep redacted "third party" individuals for "privacy". The judge told them to go pound sand so all of those docs will get released tomorrow.

Barr can't do a fucking thing about it unless he wants to be held in contempt of court.

And I love how he was held in contempt of Congress today after trying to weasel his way out of it by "negotiating" with the oversight committee. They told him to pound sand as well and voted to hold him in contempt.

Slob Billy just gets keeps getting kicked in the nads for fat Donnie.

Maybe a few will flee to countries without extradition--Russia, Saudi Arabia, North Korea?--but who the hell would want to move to these countries? The new Dem appointed DOJ AG will cum buckets getting in their asses - Barr, MNuchin, all of them. Imagine Hope Hicks in the clink, hello OITNB!

by Anonymousreply 533July 18, 2019 12:53 PM

R530 I'm still anxious that Barr is going to do something to try to block the release of those court documents. Can he appeal the ruling to a higher court? I'm assuming that the Cohen case was a Federal Case so the next higher court would be Supreme. Could they overrule the judge? Does the Supreme Court work that fast? Could he have the SDNY decide to reopen the case and thus shut down the disclosure of documents. I put nothing past him.

The Epstein stuff, considering the recent developments, was also done prior to the hack Barr coming on at DOJ. If I had to guess, I'd say others involved let something drop when they got word the liar Barr would try to stop this Epstein thing.
