British Royal Family Gossip: Part 72

Let's continue our discussion about the British Royals.

The previous thread Part 71 is in the link below.

When I look back upon these threads

It's always with a sense of shame

The Welp Troll is the one to blame...

by Anonymousreply 1June 12, 2019 1:38 PM

Incredible how fast these threads fill up. I simply cannot keep up and I consider myself a long term fan of the BRF, even before Meghan. How much is there, really, to discuss about these people?

by Anonymousreply 2June 12, 2019 1:41 PM

I think Meg has somehow suffered a “narcissistic blow” and is simply binge-eating to compensate.

by Anonymousreply 3June 12, 2019 1:42 PM

The Queen mid-scratch.

We've all been there.

I notice the family always had their own cameras at hand during these times. Would be wonderful to see their private photo collections.

This is rather fabulous.

The Queen Mother living her best life , greeting her public, in Scotland in the '50's.

by Anonymousreply 5June 12, 2019 1:48 PM

It's interesting how long the Queen Mother stuck around while her husband died so young. It'd be interesting to see how things would have turned out if he hadn't died so young.

Rather!

Quite!

Narc!

Woe unto house of windsor

May your horsey faces see the back of Great Britain

May your homely children, and your children's children, never see thy throne

May uncle gary finally be sent to the tower for his drug dealing and may his mansion le bang bang get burned to the ground!

Your Jowly Frauness shall never be Queen! Nor shall her beady eyed hard faced mother ever be Queen Mother (TM)

And yes, I still think louis looks like a Portuguese cab driver no matter how much sun-in and JustForBlonds they put in his hair. Those slanted dark eyes whisper the tale of yore. Of great swarthy men traveling across foreign land to take virgins and trade them for goats.

I'll say no more...I shan't....

by Anonymousreply 8June 12, 2019 1:54 PM

Yep, R7.

Don't forget:

Merching!

Welp!

Treason!

by Anonymousreply 9June 12, 2019 1:55 PM

The Welp Troll could leave here, if he tried

And he should

And left to his own devices

He probably would.

by Anonymousreply 10June 12, 2019 1:57 PM

R2, the posts are mainly drivel. Meghan is the favorite topic because she gives them so much to work with: burgers, tossed salads, Adderall & cocaine addiction and being a postpartum cow!

It got pretty obnoxious at one point, with outright racism and notes of homophobia but, it's gossip! You don't need proof to gossip...unless you're talking about Alpha William and Saint Catherine of the Yacht and their brood of Precious Memories figurines come to life.

Basically...you missed nothing of value if you're a sane, reasonable adult.

P.S. Do the royal forums have any Bea/Edo updates? They're my favorite train wreck.

by Anonymousreply 11June 12, 2019 1:58 PM

I bought you drinks, I brought you flowers

I read your posts and talked for hours

Every day, so many posts

Such ugly trolls , so tell me

What have I, what have I, what have I done to deserve this?

What have I, what have I, what have I done to deserve this?

by Anonymousreply 12June 12, 2019 2:00 PM

Oh do shut up, R11. I can tell you aren't crazy but that's really not all that is discussed here. We pretty much put the Sainted Kate followers and the Meghan-breath-of-fresh-air fans on block. The thread runs pretty smoothly. I for one am sick of Markle. She's not that interesting. Should a fit of bitchiness so besiege me, I just go read the DM comments and go on my merry way.

by Anonymousreply 16June 12, 2019 2:06 PM

Umm yes there are crazies on this thread but compared to some of the other syndicated DL threads like the ones on Richard Madden's fuck buddy, Shawn Mendes presenting hole and Chalamet and friends, these threads are mild and also low on imagination. R13, found one of the loons!

Hi dear, are you the sad sack that was talking about a tea time buffet (!) from 40 years ago or was that another member of the lunatic fringe? That was funny and sad to read at the same time: typing fat while reminiscing about something from 40 years ago...a Mary! and Caftans & Earrings comment if I ever saw one.

I have several of the more severe posters on block, though you sound really angry and frazzled...need a downer?

The past several threads have been heavily focused on Meghan...too much chaff. But, despite what her detractors say, they clearly can't get enough of her.

These threads are going by so fast you've only got to be in a different timezone and it's a new thread.

On the last one, R438 said "Kenneth MacMillan would never have done a ballet around the tragedy of Harry and Meghan."

For those who don't know, Graeme Murphy did a modern adaptation of "Swan Lake" for the Australian Ballet which was a fictionalised account of the Charles/Diana/Camilla triangle - and toured it to London, what's more. It's actually a beautiful ballet, and was released on DVD. There's a preview on YouTube. In the original productions, the fragile princess was blonde and the other brunette.

R7 - That's ad nauseAm and you bet your arse.

by Anonymousreply 51June 12, 2019 2:54 PM

r50- wow, that sounds quite moving actually

by Anonymousreply 52June 12, 2019 2:57 PM

R50 Camilla represented by that beautiful young brunette ballet dancer? In Camilla's dreams! (Although she did quite well with what she had - which talent is what really separates the women from the girls.)

Obliged for the information on Graeme Murphy's "adaptation" - very entertaining, indeed!

by Anonymousreply 53June 12, 2019 2:57 PM

Cowmilla moooo

by Anonymousreply 54June 12, 2019 3:01 PM

The beautiful young brunette in that production seems to be the "Diana" character (whom I've never seen played brunette before). The Camilla character is older and is usually dark haired and is dressed darkly, since she's effectively "the black swan" (though nobody is actually a swan in this retelling - the swans you do see are fantasies of "Diana's" disturbed imagination).

by Anonymousreply 55June 12, 2019 3:02 PM

R26 - Well, haven't we got our knickers in a twist about a quite sweet reminiscence responding to another about Ascot and quintessentially English food indulgences?

Sweetheart, if that's your definition of down and negative and angry, you should probably stay away from the news reports. Relax. Get a massage to loosen up those tense muscles. Enjoy the gossip.

And by all means have a split stuffed with Devon cream and fresh strawberries. It will do wonders for your bitter angry accusatory mood.

Cheers!

by Anonymousreply 56June 12, 2019 3:02 PM

So the Sussexes are going to Africa after all. Well, she'll still have instagram and you can be sure she ll be furiously creating SM-worthy "experiences" in Africa for the Millennial followers to wow at. This is the age of Kylie and Kendall, The british public will still hate her but she'll turn it into an "opportunity" for the American public. I'd put my money on it.

R58 me too and that JizzLane person

by Anonymousreply 59June 12, 2019 3:07 PM

R55 - Ah. Do you think they did that to disguise the roman a clef nature of the ballet, or was Murphy quite open about it, or did the dancer cast as Diana get the part on suitability as a dancer? Haven't had time to really look at the clip. Interesting as both Camilla and Diana were blondes. It's also interesting given Diana's early and longstanding interest in ballet. There's a photo of her at about 14 en pointe in arabesque on some wall at Althrop. She was of course far too tall to make it, with big feet to boot, and you can see in the photo that although she's strong, and got far enough to go en pointe, she's not "pulled up" the way someone fully trained is. But the early training probably added to those long smooth leg muscles that were her figure's real beauty.

by Anonymousreply 60June 12, 2019 3:09 PM

R57 - Hadn't heard that. Link to story?

by Anonymousreply 61June 12, 2019 3:10 PM

Oops sorry- it doesn't mention for how long they'll be in "the bush". I had read earlier in June that it would be a 6 month exploratory stay looking towards a larger role but this story makes it sound like a shorter trip.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 62June 12, 2019 3:15 PM

"While the final itinerary for the fall tour is being pinned down by Buckingham Palace aides, the trip is at the request of the British Foreign Office and is expected to focus on youth empowerment, education and conservation causes close to the couple’s hearts. According to sources close to Harry and Meghan they hope to visit southern Africa “many times” over the coming years as they carve out new roles for themselves as “roving royals” working internationally, particularly in Africa."

by Anonymousreply 63June 12, 2019 3:16 PM

R50 - Having watched the preview tape now, I'm impressed and think I may have to order the DVD. I thought I saw in some scenes involving the three shades of Antony Tudor's "Jardin aus Lilas", which was done for American Ballet Theatre. I saw it in New York years ago - the music is Chausson's "Poème". Tudor related hearing the piece in the bath, and the whole ballet (it's not long) taking shape immediately in his mind.

by Anonymousreply 64June 12, 2019 3:17 PM

R60, I don't think Murphy ever came out and said it, but people quickly twigged and it was widely discussed in Australia (including, "Eek, wonder what they'll say about it in London!" when the tour was announced). Anyway, it's as clear as day from the opening scene, in which the young blonde discovers the Prince having it off with the other woman on the actual eve of their marriage. I attach a link to a review of the 2015 revival to show how well accepted it was.

Something DL-ers will appreciate, which you may be able to see in that clip, is that the wedding dress has an extremely long train and when he lifts her and it billows she sometimes takes on the shape of a swan. The set and costume designer, Kristian Frederick (RIP), did some beautiful collaborations with Murphy. And of course, Diana was famous for the extravagant length of the train on her wedding dress.

R68 - She can't make money from this. FC is part of the Crown Estates. Revenue generated by the Crown Estates is returned to help fund the Sovereign Grant and Grant in Aid, which is what paid for the renovations to FC in the first place. For the Sussexes to obtain personal gain from this would be the absolute apex of insult to the British taxpayer. If there are revenues, my guess is they will go to a charity or back to the Crown Estates. This is Sarah Latham, earning her 140,000 p.a. on the Sell Meghan Markle project. Harry isn't even involved, according to the story. As usual, it's All About Meghan.

Cant explain why I love this buffoonish gal at R71 but I just do. Will we and the unwashed masses ever come to such a level of unconditional acceptance of Megs? Time will tell.

by Anonymousreply 73June 12, 2019 3:45 PM

R73 because she’s a hot mess like us commoners.

by Anonymousreply 74June 12, 2019 3:47 PM

R71, good ol' Fergie never disappoints in looking like an abject disappointment. Going by her outfits, she's torn between rejoining the BRF (if the DoE ever agrees to meet his Maker; would be delicious if he's holding on to keep Fergie out) and being a sexpot past its use by date.

She's always been frumpy but that outfit is the absolute limit; her poor girls never stood a sartorial chance.

by Anonymousreply 75June 12, 2019 3:48 PM

She’s praying for the Duke to die. They’ll be remarried soon after.

by Anonymousreply 76June 12, 2019 3:52 PM

R69 - The RepliKate in the photo is missing something important: an eight-carat (give or take) oval sapphire surrounded by two carats in high-quality diamonds set in 18CT gold.

by Anonymousreply 77June 12, 2019 3:58 PM

R69, that account has people dressing like Kate, Meghan and (non-royal) Pippa and from the 'replications' shown, the concept is a bust.

There's a reason these ladies work to stay so lean; the clothes will fit better. Doesn't hurt that they take advantage of tailoring services but that's available to everyone.l

by Anonymousreply 82June 12, 2019 4:29 PM

R80 - I was thinking "Annie Get Your Gun".

by Anonymousreply 83June 12, 2019 4:37 PM

R81 - I don't think Kate and Meghan have any relationship at all except in front of cameras, as opposed to Diana and Fergie, who actually were friends before Diana married Charles. The BRF all recognise Meghan for the Brand "Me!" grifter she is and they all dislike her. Any semblance of baseline courtesy is strictly for public consumption. I doubt highly that Kate is dropping in at Frogmore Cottage with the kids so George, Charlotte, and Louis can get to know their new cousin and their Auntie Megs.

The "Africa Plan" is in fact the "Abroad Plan" so that the home field is left uncluttered for the Cambridges. It's perfect for Meghan: she gets to build her brand as an internationalist, because she's of absolutely no use to the BRF at home, and the Cambridges dutifully take up the mantle of Future P&P of Wales and then K&Q in the arena that counts for them: Great Britain.

by Anonymousreply 84June 12, 2019 4:43 PM

Criminal fraud perpetrated on the British taxpayer!

by Anonymousreply 85June 12, 2019 4:50 PM

so spot on R84. Was going to say the same thing. This Roving Royals plan will work out for all- clear the field for the Cambridges to come into a larger role and give MM time to turn this 21st century mild exile into a woke, international brand like Jolie's. The world is quite literally their oyster, without competing with Will and Kate who will always win with the British public, no question about it.

Also a win win for Harry if he wants to in fact divorce her..Africa gives him the time and space to roll out a "we grew apart" narrative in some years without accusations of the Palace interfering a la Diana.

by Anonymousreply 86June 12, 2019 4:52 PM

Oh, we're still pretending Kate will absolutely be crowned Queen, R84? William will be King (unless he meets some early end) but Kate's not guaranteed to be his Queen Consort.

With the accusations of Will dipping his quill in other ink pots, we would be wise to hold off on measuring Catherine for her ermines just yet.

Thank goodness she has her career to fall back on...

by Anonymousreply 87June 12, 2019 4:57 PM

“Delusional Frau!”

“My sister-in-law”

by Anonymousreply 88June 12, 2019 4:58 PM

I doubt Harry wants to divorce her after just having a baby. Maybe down the road, but some of these comments are crazy.

by Anonymousreply 89June 12, 2019 4:58 PM

R87- Do you live in Neverland? Or in a zone divorced from reality? William will never leave her. Period. The wandering penis has nothing to do with it (true or false), Kate is part of his brand now. His brand which is Not Charles and Diana's Serious and Sensitive Son. May have very little to do with what he's actually like but his wife is mother of the future king. He's tied to her. Diana would have stayed married too had she not started leaking. That's just real time politicking for a future monarch.

Harry might have the freedom to divorce and he might just but not till Arch is more grown up

by Anonymousreply 90June 12, 2019 5:03 PM

I do find it fascinating that all of The Queen's children are divorced, save for the one in a lavender marriage.

by Anonymousreply 91June 12, 2019 5:08 PM

relax r89, wasn't suggesting that he will. Just makes the whole PR situation and tensions easier to manage

by Anonymousreply 92June 12, 2019 5:08 PM

Kate and Carole would hold a pillow over Will’s face while he slept if there was any inkling he was divorcing her. If she can’t be Queen Consort, she’ll at least be Queen Mother.

I know what you mean R2! This is at 95 already, so I'm getting my questions in early.

May I ask how the Bean came about for Meghan? I was looking back at a Tendrils thread and it must have started there.

Also SSAA - ???

R63, roving royals, ie jet set limousine liberals

by Anonymousreply 97June 12, 2019 5:16 PM

Her father called her Little Bean. She often referred to it on The Tig, when she sang his praises and professed her love for him.

by Anonymousreply 98June 12, 2019 5:17 PM

It was fun watching Brad and Angie (and to a lesser degree Clooney with his dabbling in Darfur) do the limousine liberal thing. In Angie's case particularly, she was imaginative and relentless in building this image so it was highly entertaining and even as a "camp" event, I found her drive endearing. But the thing is that it was all their own money! With these two, public opinion is essential..lets see how it goes down...

by Anonymousreply 99June 12, 2019 5:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 102June 12, 2019 5:37 PM

'Blacks don't crack' is literally a meme that some people take way too seriously.

anyone with a shit lifestyle or sunny lifestyle is going to age horribly. plenty of terrible looking pasty or dark people waltzing around, and plenty looking good.

I’m sorry but “some” black ladies age very well without plastic surgery. I lived in Africa for a long time and saw many young looking ladies who turned out to be 50 or 60. These ladies were not rich and couldn’t afford surgery.

The Queen had an audience with the Australian Governor General designate and Prince William was there too. Dickie Arbiter, the Queen's former press secretary, thinks it's a good idea for HM to mentor William.

South Africa, Malawi and Angola are on the tour itinerary for Harry and Meghan. I wonder if they'll take Archie? She'll want to be like Diana who took William to Australia and New Zealand more than Fergie who left Baby Bea at home and got so much grief for it.

One thing I do know first hand about the BRF is that they lie about finances, so as not to appear "too rich".

We sold a sculpture to Prince Charles for his garden in Highgrove. It was $275k, and he did receive a discount- but not much, maybe 20%. The official story was that it was donated. I know they receive plenty of expensive gifts, but this was not one of them.

I don't want to say too much, but he really seemed like an old queen to me. Maybe his upbringing, but he acted like an old woman- so fussy.

by Anonymousreply 110June 12, 2019 6:16 PM

The 'avoiding appearing rich' is the core of the markle issue. She desperately wants to wow people with how lavish her lifestyle when that its the exact opposite M.O

I doubt Megs is going to be charmed by the plan to send her and Harry into the wild whilst leaving the glamour, buzz, and majesty of the capital and environs to Wills and Kate. Mehgan is no country enthusiast - the Third World is for photo ops, not lengthy stays.

My guess is, Meghan won't like it as much as she likes getting out of limos in front of the National Gallery, dripping with Dior whilst the cameras click. But she is smart enough to know that as she screwed her chances of winning over the British public and the British press, she should take the long view, grit her teeth and get through a few years of way too much time in the Third World, and then take the A-List Humanitarian advantage she gets from it, ditch the BRF and Harry, and run away with a nice settlement and no more lectures from the BP Press Office.

by Anonymousreply 128June 12, 2019 6:40 PM

Does anyone wonder if spending so long in Africa will persuade Meghan to stop straightening her hair? I imagine the climate will make the whole process less effective against Mother Nature and more frequently needed.

by Anonymousreply 129June 12, 2019 6:41 PM

I wonder how the cambridge kids will grow up, they do seem to be having a stable upbringing with the middletons and kate.

by Anonymousreply 130June 12, 2019 6:43 PM

R129, most of South Africa is dry heat. It’s only further up north in Africa where it gets unbearably MOIST.

by Anonymousreply 131June 12, 2019 6:44 PM

R128 - I wouldn't bet on him remarrying at all if he and Sparkle divorce. Like his Uncle Andy, he strikes me as someone who likes domesticity in theory, but not in practice. He does want kids, though. Two kids and a nice amiable quick divorce and I can't imagine Harry doing anything but having LTRs in future. Della was right: both these people are too externally focussed to make good bets for marriage. They'll both be happier outside of it after they have the kids. Sparkle may have to get remarried as for women it's still necessary to prove their worth to themselves and the world, but she really shouldn't. Unless she marries someone who can maintain separate palaces.

by Anonymousreply 132June 12, 2019 6:45 PM

Louis will grow up to be a mix of James Middleton and Harry, with a lot more parental guidance than Harry ever did hopefully. Charlotte will 100% go the Anne route, but with a lot more personality and style. George is the wild card. He could be reserved like William, he could be woke gender fluid/pansexual Prince George (ok not really but that would be fun) or he could be sensitive and "misunderstood" oddball like Charles

by Anonymousreply 133June 12, 2019 6:48 PM

R131 - Thanks. I forgot about the Sahel area and the southern more desert-like parts. However, either area is likely to be unkind to any woman's hair that requires lots of "doing".

The projected tour is obviously not going to be a short one, and it is vaguely defined as an "autumn" tour, with rumours that they will leave in October. This of course would mean missing Remembrance Day services, which after Meghan's first one last year, I'm sure will be a relief to all concerned.

I wonder if they will this summer show up at Balmoral with Archie, as they did not show last summer.

by Anonymousreply 134June 12, 2019 6:50 PM

Markle should go the Oprah and Angelina route..not remarry but instead become a name or empire unto herself. She won't though.

by Anonymousreply 135June 12, 2019 6:50 PM

She will remarry though**

by Anonymousreply 136June 12, 2019 6:51 PM

R135 - Agree. Meghan is too vain not to get remarried. Angelina had her high-profile marriage to an A-list star and she's got the slew of kids and she clearly doesn't give two fucks what people think. But Meghan does; image is everything to her. She'll do her best to snag someone who outclasses Harry in the money department, at least.

by Anonymousreply 137June 12, 2019 6:53 PM

Re the divorce speculation, that's the irony: it is Harry who will end up embittered and angry, left with the protocol and restrictions of his position and looking like a fool; Meghan will ride off into the sunset grateful for having A-list status whilst no longer bound by the restrictions and protocol she had to sit through to get it.

Any psychics or amateur astrologists in the house? What do the BRF's birth charts tell us? William, George, Diana and Camilla are all Cancerians, water. Kate, Charlotte, Harry, HM and Louis are all Earth signs. Harry of course is a Virgo which is why he's leaning towards the neurotic when compared to the stable Tarureans like Charlotte and HM or the ambitious go getting Capricorns like Kate,

Can you guess who is the only Fire sign of all he senior royals? Yup. It's our MM. She's a Leo, that poor thing.

Do you think these births are all planned and coordinated based on astrological advice? It's all nonsense but I can buy that they've taken astrological guidance. All of them born in the house of water or compatible earth? difficult to believe its a coincidence!

R183, Interesting that more and more disses re MM past behavior are now being revealed online. Clear from his most recent actions re Prince Harry's attitude towards his wife. I can't see MM going to Africa. She prefers CA especially if baby Archie's not actually in the picture. Lying about using a surrogate is one thing but if he doesn't actually exist? WTF?

by Anonymousreply 184June 13, 2019 4:56 AM

R183, you are a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 185June 13, 2019 5:24 AM

Never thought I would but I’m feeling empathy for MM.

Motherhood is held up in this grand romantic way - and you’re supposed to instantly relish every moment in blissful happiness... but not everyone has the same maternal personality. Newborns are a lot of work and rather boring.

My observation is women with personalities like MM have a very hard time, and find it bad for their mental health, to be all mom and no career.

It’s one thing if you don’t have a traditional career because you’re filthy rich and can do whatever you please. Take up whatever cause you want, wear what you want, travel as you wish. It’s an entirely different thing to have all the riches and be bound to baby time, plus parties with people who all think they’re better than you, plus visits to retirement homes.

I don’t think MM realized she was getting golden handcuffs. Harry probably played it like he was bold, he’d agree, and they’d venture out and change the world. She’s quickly discovering, as does anyone with a partner overly enmeshed in their family, that what he said versus what he’s actually willing to do are very different.

I think her sudden deer in the headlights is reflective of some postpartum depression - being isolated in a new country with no meaningful work and no real friends will only make it worse.

by Anonymousreply 186June 13, 2019 6:14 AM

I don't feel a bit sorry for her. She's a narc. She's getting her just desserts. Hopefully the inevitable divorce announcement comes sooner rather than later. I doubt meghan will get another chance at a rich husband. She has nothing to offer, is not very attractive and is older. She's no A lister despite what she thinks in her head. No, she will fade back off to obscurity.

by Anonymousreply 187June 13, 2019 6:23 AM

[quote] no real friends

Right.

That's what happens when you dump everyone after they are no more use to you. She has ghosted old friends and family.

So, who would want to be friends with someone who has shown how she treats friends? The only ones who would be interested are people who would see her as someone THEY could use.

No sympathy here. Except for Baby Sussex.

I have no idea if she is smart or not. But she was given an expensive education. The question is, did she pay attention, do any work? Information on the Royal Family's way of life, how they consider themselves "The Firm", what expectations there are for behavior, etc. - all this information is available with very little research. Makes me wonder whether she got anything of value from that expensive education.

If the story is true, she abandoned the embassy job that her uncle got for her. She dropped her husband after he had gotten her the Suits job, making sure that she took the expensive blender when she headed off to Toronto.

She dropped the chef, after supposedly claiming the chef's dishes were really her own, after Harry came on the scene.

It looks as if her reach may have finally exceeded her grasp.

by Anonymousreply 190June 13, 2019 6:34 AM

It's not over till it's over.

by Anonymousreply 191June 13, 2019 6:59 AM

I'm another with no sympathy for her. Only an idiot would think they could join the royal family & be able to do what they want, when they want. It doesn't matter what Harry told her, a few dates should have made her realise the extent of his brainpower. And yes, the reason she has no friends is because she used and abused the genuine ones she may have had. The ones she has left are users the same as she is. She's had the opportunity to make a good life for herself, better than 99% of us will ever have and she's determined to fuck it up. Good luck with that.

by Anonymousreply 192June 13, 2019 7:41 AM

Meghan isn't stupid. She knew exactly what to expect and she is clearly in her absolute element on the foreign tours. She wouldn't get to do that as an actress; she'd have tedious days on set in Toronto year after year.

They're styling themselves as Roving Royals so they have an excuse to travel the globe as often as possible, staying in the most luxurious accommodation on the planet, of course. That's the most enviable lifestyle of all. Permanent vacation. Angry haters who think she'd swap that for being a divorcee in LA are exceedingly naive.

R221 - You can see how badly mismatched Charles and Diana were from her well-known dislike of Highgrove. If she couldn't join Charles in his passion for the place and its potential, if she couldn't see its beauty or at least understand his passion for his vision, how on earth could she have become the wife of his heart as well as his position? I have no idea how Camilla feels about gardens or Highgrove, but I've a pretty good idea that she knew how to join Charles in his passion for it.

Highgrove wasn't what it is today when Charles bought it; his vision transformed it. If only Diana had realised how much bonding could have taken place between them if she'd put her Sloane Ranger Get Me Back To The Shops aside and joined him in that vision., things might have gone differently.

Diana in that marriage was the wind in the fable of the sun and the wind having a contest about who could make the human below them take off his overcoat. The wind blew and blew and all the man did was hug the coat closer around him. The sun sent down warmer, gentler rays and the man suddenly took off his coat.

For all her lack of beauty, Camilla knew how to be the sun, and for all her youth and beauty, all Diana did was rage windily against Charles for not giving her the endless attention she craved.

by Anonymousreply 230June 13, 2019 12:40 PM

Camilla was a hot skinny thing in the 70s.

by Anonymousreply 231June 13, 2019 12:43 PM

R230 - ok we get you don't like Diana. The woman had problems but you leave out a couple of and important fact:

One of the reasons Diana didn't like Highgrove is because Camilla was often at the place. She would act as party hostess for Charles and Charles and his mistress were discovered in the garden getting it on. I would say that would be taint a place pretty quickly for any wife.

There is definitely a slow creep toward "full time royal" status for the York daughters. I wonder when it will be announced, maybe in conjunction with a retirement of the elder Gloucester and Kents. I do think the RF are wary of public opinion in that regard as many were not too chuffed at Harry going full time and now costing a fortune with his new wife and a kid.

by Anonymousreply 247June 13, 2019 1:30 PM

I can see the York girls taking on a section of workload, and therefore becoming working royals, as William's idea. In fact, there WAS a blind about it, a few weeks/months before we saw them become more high profile with duties and engagements.

by Anonymousreply 248June 13, 2019 1:35 PM

Is there a chance of Harry being downgraded from working royal?

by Anonymousreply 249June 13, 2019 1:38 PM

R249 - Not any time soon. I agree with poster who mentioned the "creep" toward incorporating the York girls into the working royal team. I put this down to two possible issues. First, Meghan may have received a rapturous reception on Celebitchy, but she didn't from core senior royals in the BRF. She played her first hand of royal cards recklessly and badly. So I think the creep of the York girls is something of an insurance policy, as it becomes ever clearer that Meghan really isn't suited to the home turf, and that the Sussex marriage, realistically, only has a 50-50 chance of long-term survival. Second, I think there's a wish to bring more of the blood family forward and circle the wagons against the invader. A third possibility, which I think is only marginally credible, is that Prince Andrew, who hates Meghan Markle's guts, carried out some determined private investigation of his own and has said that unless his daughters are given their "rightful place" in the BRF, especially given clear Meghan has made it that she's in this for herself and brand only, he'll leak what he found (just as, in my private opinion, he leaked the Tiaragate story to pay Meghan back for the maternity coat stunt).

But in the near future? Only if he downgrades himself out of the line of succession (and UK taxpayer funding) by leaving for America and taking his wife and kid(s) with him.

I love Kate's outfit at R241, and her big 70s hair.

Whoever came up with the idea of recycling Royal outfits is a genius. Everyone knows that most of Kate's clothes are worth a fortune, and even the high street pieces have been taken apart and put back together by expert tailors, but occasionally wearing the same pieces at least gives a nod to the little folks, who have to wear their own H&M creations multiple times.

I think Charles would avoid doing purely for an optics aspect, I don't think he was ever as close as PR made it seem.

by Anonymousreply 262June 13, 2019 2:36 PM

Take it with a pinch of salt (or a gallon) but I remember reading that the fallout from the Jimmy Saville paedophile cases was brutal on Charles' image, given their close, somewhat murky friendship with documented proof of Charles having stayed in Jimmy's lair in Scotland. It could have been as fatal for him as the negative PR from Diana's death. But it was somewhat swiftly contained in the press.

But a common side effect of Charles being attacked in the press? He very often throws his sons under the bus. It happened in the early 2000s post Diana when he outed Harry's "drug" (marijuana) habit and then also leaked how he swooped in as a dutiful dad to take him to rehab. And then again in 2012 post Saville, wherein Harry, William and Kate were all painted as lazy as a contrast to hardworking Charles. MM's PR has nothing on Charles's spin doctors! They've earned every dime, I reckon.

by Anonymousreply 263June 13, 2019 2:38 PM

Some of you can't make up your minds whether Meghan's stupid or so powerful, she shakes the BRF into bringing in the York girls as full-time representatives to the Crown!

The issue regarding the York girls has been brewing for years before Meghan even divorced her first husband and Andrew has been cranky about commoners (ahem, looking at you Catherine) outranking his daughters of the blood royal for many moons.

If you guys remember (or choose to remember), there were massive stories when Kate married her Alpha about when she would have to curtsey to Beatrice and Eugenie...it was non-stop. That was Andrew. Now, he's ramping things up because Meghan's entered the picture at the worst possible time.

The older royals are retiring and it's becoming clear that Charles' wish to severely limit the BRF (akin to the Norwegian Royal Family) isn't going to work. Andrew's been actively campaigning against the stupidity of the plan with great results.

For the first time, Andrew has been right about something (bringing Fergie back will be a mistake but she's past childbearing age, so thank goodness for small mercies) and having all HRHs of this generation working for The Firm is the only way to keep earning their keep. Andrew is on ground way too shaky to leak stories about anyone, so he'd be wise to not try.

Circling the wagons against non-blood family?! Clearly, many of you had strange upbringings. The BRF is notoriously kind towards 'outsiders' that overstep (Fergie, Princess Michael and Lord Snowden Sr. immediately come to mind) and are very slow to excise unruly in-laws, no matter their behavior. It's wishful thinking that H&M will be downgraded (talk less for the fruits of Fergie's womb!) but your scenarios are comedic gold, so let's have more.

by Anonymousreply 264June 13, 2019 2:41 PM

The Hanoverians (which the Windsors really are, despite all the name changes) have a long history of cold relationships between monarch and heir. This is true even now: Charles was never Elizabeth's favorite, and Charles has little use for William. But he has little use for Harry, either.

Charles always wanted a daughter, to the point of essentially telling Diana after Harry's birth that he was disappointed in a red-haired second son. That's the point when the marriage was over in Diana's eyes, or at least that's what she said. Ironically, Charles denied himself the opportunity of having a third child with Di that might have been the longed-for girl, by being a dick to his wife and continuing to fuck Camilla. Diana had blame to bear in the death of that relationship, but Charles also contributed quite a bit to its demise.

by Anonymousreply 265June 13, 2019 2:44 PM

The BRF are notoriously kind to outsiders?????? Oh my sides!!

Here we are, talking MM's demands for tiaras, Diana being read the riot act for not tolerating mistresses being paraded in KP with more "grace", Fergie's utter banishment over minor grifts and escapades (yes, that escapade was nothing major, except being caught on camera but...more on that) all the while Anne was allowed affairs under the radar, Charles was sleeping with male valets and the kids' nannies, BESIDES his regular side pieces, Andrew's had active links with JEFFREY FUCKING EPSTEIN and Bea stealing another woman's baby daddy...all of this has been handled gently and effectively by Palace officials while the 'married ins' are hung out to dry.

Oh and while Harry and William are reliving feuds of Kane and Abel proportions (MARY!!!!), here we are discussing the non existent beef between Evil Megs and Ambitious Kate, Why? Simply because the Palace prefers it framed thus.

by Anonymousreply 266June 13, 2019 2:54 PM

R265 - First, that story about Charles's remark to Diana as Harry was being born is strictly from Diana and likely rewrite from Diana as the Wales marriage collapsed and their PR war heated up and her spite increased. She was known for lying even as a child. Charles didn't deny himself the chance of that daughter by "being a dick" and being unfaithful. The marriage was in trouble by the time the honeymoon was over - Diana was already making his life hell, try reading about the honeymoon and their first stay at Balmoral that August when the BRF were so concerned at her complete volte face that she was sent back to London for counseling. They were completely mismatched, and Diana was evert bit as complicit in the breakdown of the marriage as Charles was. Having a third child would have done nothing but involve even more vulnerable people in the misery that was the Wales marriage.

As for the relationship between monarch and heir: oh, that suspicions and coldness extends well beyond the Hanoverians. There probably isn't a royal family anywhere in history that hasn't seen that, for obvious reasons. Try reading up on the Romanovs from the time of Peter the Great, and then, of course, there's always ancient Rome . . . both of which families make the Windsors look like the Darling family in Peter Pan.

by Anonymousreply 267June 13, 2019 2:56 PM

R266 - Do tell us which and how many mistresses were "paraded" by Charles in Kensington Palace? I doubt you can come up with one, because by the time Charles went back to Camilla, he saw her only at HIghgrove, her own place not far off, and at "safe houses" leant by friends. Oh, and of course, Diana's behaviour had absolutely nothing to do with why the BRF finally got tired of her antics, did it?

by Anonymousreply 268June 13, 2019 2:58 PM

R266 - I think you're bound to come up with proof of Charles sleeping with male valets; the York girls are not working royals and aren't on the Sovereign Grant and asserting that chubby, pop-eyed buck-toothed, badly dressed Bea "stole" Edo from his beautiful baby Mama is ludicrous: if anything, the social climbing narc Edo found it easy to seduce the unattractive, over-30 Single Elder Sister princess; Andrew lost his position of Business Ambassador for Britain over the Epstein scandal; and since you're such an advocate of Saint Diana - you might want to remember that Dodi Fayed had just gotten engaged to a young model, including a huge engagement ring, who was parked on a different yacht not too far from the Jonikal, after Dodi's Papa suggested he might have a shot at the world's most famous woman. I believe the gobsmacked fiancee sued for breach of promise. I doubt it bothered Diana too much, any more than her stalking of the wife of the married man she was obsessed with did.

Please.

by Anonymousreply 269June 13, 2019 3:05 PM

The bumping up of Euge and Bea says nothing about how "powerful" MM is. It's a function of the power struggle between the original Heir and Spare- Charles and Andrew. MM and Harry's prominence was an experiment by Charles, which backfired with the British media. He's simply walking that strategy back. Charles is very very astute about PR and reading the weather vane

by Anonymousreply 270June 13, 2019 3:10 PM

R266- You are mistaking me for the poster writing about Diana's woes and Charles wanting daughters. I only wrote the post about married ins being treated differently. I really don't think Diana was a blameless saint. Im just bolstering my argument for how the BRF has treated the daughters in law with how it all went down.

by Anonymousreply 271June 13, 2019 3:13 PM

Someone posited that we are slipping in our snark. Perhaps we are. R271 - Apologies for blending you and R265. But in answer to your particular point: those married-ins were treated with kid gloves and huge amounts of bend over backwards tolerance until they began biting the very rich hands that were feeding them. Fergie was reckless, Diana had serious emotional issues and didn't exactly treat Charles well, and Meghan made it clear the moment the ring was on her finger that she was about Brand Meghan, not the BRF (and not the British taxpayer, either). If the BRF treated the blood family's peccadilloes with more tolerance - well, they wouldn't be the first troubled family in history to favour their own, would they? And getting divorced is not so difficult; kicking someone off the line of success is rather more major. And the BRF do have the survival of the institution to consider, and when the married-ins don't seem to share their concern, the result is inevitable.

Diana and Charles were a terrible match. Fergie couldn't take the restrictions and Andrew's long absences as a naval officer and was indiscreet; and Meghan - well, we know how that's playing out.

It does bear repeating that other married-ins, such as the Duchesses of Gloucester and Kent, have done extremely well and been honoured and respected by the rest of the family. Princess Michael - well, they don't particularly like her, either, but would you blame them for that?

I think it's a more nuanced landscape than you're asserting, that's all.

R309, considering the age of the DoS and this was her first baby, I'm sure they realized there was a chance she would need a C-Section and/or the labor could have complications.

The backdrop of Windsor may not have been for the sake of grandiosity but because Frogmore Cottage is still being renovated (they'll go over budget...count on it, as it has happened with all recent renovations); we can't also expect the photos to take place in private quarters belonging to HM and the DoE.

Now, I'm not saying Meghan didn't grab the opportunity to debut her son in such a cloak and dagger manner but she likely took advantage of the circumstances surrounding her medical needs.

R295, R304, yeah, the bit about Rihanna and Meghan having a lot in common in terms of style is hilarious (you wish, Meg) but this is also gold, as it frames it as though they knew each other before (ie, when Megan was D-list):

'They’ve bumped into each other a few times before Meghan was super famous and have a few mutual acquaintances on the Hollywood social scene who’ve put them in touch again recently.’

by Anonymousreply 322June 13, 2019 5:28 PM

R306, Kate doesn't have any style. She found a look she likes and feels comfy in (skinny jeans) and has stuck with it. She's been getting better at the junior Queen looks (all those suits and updos and hats), and that's all I expect of her. Let others be style icons.

by Anonymousreply 323June 13, 2019 5:30 PM

Kate is nowhere close to being as good looking as Diana. On her own her features are quite hard looking, but when she pulls herself together in her.as you said...JR Queen mode she looks quite stunning. Somehow as feminine and appealing as Diana and MORE pulled together if that's possible. It's astonishing really. What sort of trickery is it?

by Anonymousreply 324June 13, 2019 5:34 PM

I never have thought or written that Diana was a saint--far from it. Her tantrums and spotlight stealing helped doom the Wales marriage. But Charles did his share of tantrum throwing OVER her spotlight stealing, and he probably started fucking Camilla again before Di ever thought of cheating. Lest we forget, he was a very powerful and famous 31-year-old man courting and marrying a teenager, so of course the power dynamics were all fucked up at the beginning, and just became moreso as Diana really caught fire on the world stage.

R327 - Diana wasn't 13, she was 19 when she started dating Charles and 20 when they got married. And by every and all accounts, she was desperate to marry him, was obsessed with marrying him, ignored every red flag on display (and there were more than a few), and then, when the fairy-tale she'd constructed in her mind failed to materialise, blamed everyone else for it. It wasn't her chronological age that was the problem: it was her emotional age, and from what we saw of her relationships with men (affairs within the marriage and then after it) she didn't mature much. She had massive problems. The BRF and Charles were absolutely at fault for not allowing him to marry the woman he really loved, and Charles, hounded by the press and lectured by his father about ruining the reputation of a nice girl from a good family, just caved in. I don't absolve him of blame for that, but in my view it was a perfect storm, and it blew in from both sides.

Agreed, R306, I hate Kate's skin tight jeggings. In the photo they just make her look like she's got flat white girl ass. I wonder if the little Cosmo-reported brief hotel stay will result in a fourth Cambridge bub? I'm sorry for being such a terrible frau but another baby (hopefully a girl) would be so lovely!

I also agree with the person who wishes Harry had married Rihanna (or someone like her), although I suspect Rihanna is worldly enough (and rich and famous enough in her own right) to vet men - even men with titles like Harry - properly before deciding to breed with/marry them.

by Anonymousreply 338June 13, 2019 5:57 PM

I love how country the BRF are, it's kinda qt. Meghan, for all her past research, really didn't understand the family she was entering

by Anonymousreply 340June 13, 2019 6:02 PM

R338 - I don't think Harry and Meghan would appreciate a fourth Cambridge baby - Harry would become seventh, his kid eighth in the line of succession, and the Yorks would be even more miffed: Andrew would move down to ninth, and Bea and Yuge down to tenth and eleventh, making moving the girls forward even more difficult.

What the Yorks are hoping for is Harry throwing in the towel and departing for points westward with Meghan and Archie in tow, resigning his place in the line of succession as he waves Cheerio!, and Andrew moving back up into sixth, and his daughters moving up to seventh and eighth.

Another Cambridge baby would just upset everyone's apple cart.

by Anonymousreply 343June 13, 2019 6:17 PM

R323 - Nailed it. Kate knows she's not there to be edgy or daring. She's doing the Future Princess of Wales number (which, let us face facts, could happen at any moment) and anticipating the Future Queen Consort number (which comes up on her dance card the moment she becomes Princess of Wales). She can leave the fashion icon bullshit to the woman who will never be anything other than the Former Spare's wife (because Harry really isn't the Spare any longer, Prince George is, and George has two siblings who come ahead of Harry) and who will, eventually, have to curtsy to Kate in public.

by Anonymousreply 344June 13, 2019 6:20 PM

R344 - too bad Meghan's fashion choices don't measure up to Icon status.

by Anonymousreply 345June 13, 2019 6:24 PM

George is NOT the Spare. Charlotte is. George is the future heir to the throne.

by Anonymousreply 346June 13, 2019 6:24 PM

R346 - Not. Prince William is the future heir to the throne as long as his father, Charles, is the Heir Apparent (which is what the Prince of Wales technically is), and whilst Charles remains that, William is the future heir and his children are, realistically, all spares. Once Charles becomes King, and William becomes Prince of Wales and Heir Apparent, then George is the future heir, and his two siblings are the spares.

by Anonymousreply 350June 13, 2019 6:36 PM

R349. I never said Brexit represents "an abandonment of democracy". I asked whether the British plan to abandon democracy AFTER Brexit since they are still obsessed with the royal family.

by Anonymousreply 351June 13, 2019 6:40 PM

Maybe, let's face it our politicians are a complete shower. I know the Royals tried before. I don't know if they could be any worse than this current bunch.

by Anonymousreply 352June 13, 2019 6:42 PM

R343 - We all take your point, I'm sure, and I doubt either of those reasons would stop Kate from getting herself up the duff again if she pleases (she seems to love motherhood) and there probably would be some malicious pleasure in KP in seeing the L.A. grifter's status in the hierarchy knocked down one more notch. But Kate's 38, her youngest is still only 14 months old, HM is 93, and Kate's father-in-law will probably have a short reign . . . what with one thing and another, it would seem, er . . . I don't know . . . not in the best interests of anyone concerned.

R351 - I'm still confused about your connecting the dots of BREXIT, the BRF, and the UK abandoning democracy. And the Brits aren't obsessed with the royal family. A small segment of Brits are, the tabloids find them great fodder, and of course there's a subset here on DL. But it would be a great mistake to judge the entire British population by a group of gossiping Marys on this site.

And I'm still not sure how being obsessed with the royal family obstructs democracy here. Britain has had a consitutional monarchy for a very long time and remains one of the world's pre-eminent democracies in the broad sense of the word.

Technically, like America, Great Britain is a republic.

I wonder if the Rihanna stuff has to do with all the recent articles talking about how she’s built Fenty world domination and made a fortune in a very non-traditional business way (her social media).

What Rihanna is succeeding at is, IMO, exactly what MM wants to do and how she imagines the future if she and Harry exit to the US and move to Hollywood celebrity instead of constrained royal celebrity.

by Anonymousreply 354June 13, 2019 7:04 PM

R347 You obviously don’t know what’s meant by the term “spare” in this context.

It’s the “heir & the spare”. The spare is the next one down to the heir. Charlotte is George’s “spare”. Harry is William’s “spare”. It dates back to parents necessarily having to have more than one child to ensure succession because of the high infant mortality rate.

George is not the spare - he’s the heir.

Not sure why you felt the need to lecture the thread about who’s next in line. Pretty sure we all know that, thanks.

We are essentially in agreement, R332. Both Diana and Charles contributed to the shitshow that was their marriage. But Diana was a sheltered, ill-educated 19-year-old from a broken family background when she started dating Charles, which made her emotional age closer to 15. Hence, the idolization of Charles the Prince rather than the realistic assessment of Charles the man, which led to her enraged disillusionment in the early days of their marriage. But I do think that early on, she was more sinned against than sinning. The BRF wanted a combination broodmare and clotheshorse as the Princess of Wales, and what they ended up with an emotionally unstable, fantastically charismatic young woman instead, they made a lot of bad decisions.

by Anonymousreply 359June 13, 2019 8:40 PM

They didn’t want a “clothes horse” for fucks sake. And this “brood mare” stuff is seriously annoying. You could say that about every woman who has ever gotten married.

“Fantastically charismatic”? Diana was as dull as ditchwater & as thick as pig shit. She couldn’t even deliver a speech with any personality or flair. She could wear expensive clothes and smile. That’s it. The media did the rest.

by Anonymousreply 360June 13, 2019 8:45 PM

The British Royal Family specifically had Diana visit the Royal gynecologist before marrying Charles, to ensure that she was capable of bearing an heir. The Palace Press Office used to send out descriptions of her outfits at events until she finally asked them to stop. Yes, I think broodmare and clotheshorse describe her envisioned role very well.

Diana may have been thick, but she was anything but dull. Hence, the thousands of magazine covers that featured her, the dozens of books and documentaries about her, and the ongoing public interest in her over 20 years after her death.

But I suspect at this point that you are just being argumentative, so I will respectfully retire from this discussion.

R356 - You're right, my bad - I was thinking "direct democracy" as the opposite number. We practice "indirect democracy" - the head of the party who gets a majority becomes PM rather than us voting directly for the head of government.

Everyone "knew" Diana would be checked out for fertility before the wedding. It was still done back then, even more necessarily in this case, as it was abundantly clear that Charles was marrying for duty, not love. She was probably checked for things like chlamydia or endometriosis or the like that might impact a young woman's ability to become pregnant.

by Anonymousreply 369June 13, 2019 10:09 PM

Holy crap R362, calm down? R357's post was hardly a "Diana was a pure angel of goodness and the satanic royal family should all be executed for being mean to her" rant. And the 'brood mare' claim is 100% correct. I mean, bloody hell, are you aware of any royal history (any royal family, not just the Windsors) at all? The literal sole function of a royal wife is to produce the king's legitimate heirs. I've heard the gynecologist story before and have no difficulty believing it - the marriage of Charles and Di in many ways seemed to be the last of the old school weddings. It was publicly made known that she was a virgin, with the implication being obvious - that not being a virgin would have been a big enough problem to make her a 'not suitable' wife for Charles.

I'm not Di fan, I think she was a deeply troubled woman who probably damaged her children in many ways, some of which they will never recover from. But I, like many, do give her a pass for the start of that particular fairy tale gone bad, simply given her age and obvious immaturity (even for 19). The RF were really stupid not to have seen the storm on the horizon, and I believe it was probably Diana - in life and in death - who did the most to drag them into the modern world. In the old days she could simply have been forced to behave, to put up with whatever it was they wanted her to put up with. But the press and her popularity gave her power the RF couldn't control.

This isn't a defense. At a certain point, it was her responsibility to sort herself out (because past a certain point it's everyone's responsibility to sort themselves out, simply because who else is there to do it?) and she didn't. She doubled and tripled down on a lot of mistakes, misplayed her hand over and over (shades of MM here) and died on the verge of what many now believe would have been an embarrassing downfall with a sleazy playboy. But if you ask me who was more responsible for a terrible match, a teenager with obvious romance novel fantasies playing out in her head or an experienced and worldly 31 year old with countless advisors, I'm gonna go with the latter every time.

And thick or not, she had a way with people, especially the downtrodden, that both endeared her to the public and ended up emphasizing the fact that her husband and his family lacked it.

Now can someone tell me if it's true that our blocked people have been unblocked?

R359 - The Duke and Duchess of Kent, not Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and I was referring to how the former Katherine Worsely fitted herself into the family and took up her work. She suffered in later years from depression and converted quietly to Catholicism, as did her son. She was never a scandal maker and worked hard.

Harry WAS William's spare when they were second and third in line after their father. Harry is no longer the "the next one down" and he's now sixth in line. If William is second in line, how can a "spare" be the sixth in line? If something happened to William it wouldn't be Harry the Spare who would step up; it would be George. The "next one down" from William is no longer Harry, it is George, and William isn't even the heir yet, and neither is George. Charles is the Heir, but Harry is no longer the spare. He was, but he isn't any longer because there is nothing for him to, er, aSPARE to.

Yes, we get the brotherly Heir and Spare terminology. But in real terms, it stops making sense as soon as the Spare moves down a few notches and is no longer anywhere close to inheriting what he was supposed to be the spare inheritor for.

by Anonymousreply 375June 14, 2019 12:24 AM

But see he technically really wasn't. He was the potential spare - if Charles had died while the queen was still on the throne. Charles' is heir apparent, the spare is technically the one who comes after the heir apparent. First Ann was Charles' spare for a decade or so, then when Andrew was born, Andrew was Charles' spare for about 22 years until William was born. Harry was never really raised in the position of "if something bad happens tomorrow, YOU become the heir apparent", because he was never actually in that position, as Ann, Andrew and William all have been or are. It was a potential reality, but it was never actually reality.

And once William had George, Harry was really for all intents and purposes knocked off the direct track. Sure potentially something could happen to all 4 people in front of him, but it would be unlikely in this day and age.

by Anonymousreply 376June 14, 2019 12:42 AM

Everyone’s a spare if you’re not the heir.

by Anonymousreply 377June 14, 2019 12:56 AM

After William becomes King, if something were to happen to him before George comes of age, then Harry just might end up as Regent because he's the next adult in line of succession. Though it's not required that he'd be Regent, it's the most logical choice, so he still is sort of a "spare" until George grows up.

by Anonymousreply 378June 14, 2019 1:52 AM

If something happened to William before Charles became king, would Harry become the next heir, or would that remain George?

by Anonymousreply 379June 14, 2019 2:15 AM

I *highly* doubt Harry would end up as regent, especially with what's going on right now with a)apparent strife between the brothers (I definitely think this is more between Will and Harry than it is Kate and Meghan, although it doesn't appear that the sisters in law are close in any way) and b)strong public reactions (including sharply falling popularity - which, hey, the public is fickle, it's entirely possible it could shoot right back up again) to Harry since marrying Meghan.

I believe courtiers would see it as far too risky to put Harry, who will never again be the cheeky and beloved 20-something he used to be, on the throne even in a regent capacity. Yes, what if it's wildly unpopular - that would be bad. But what if it was wildly popular? What if King Harry was so loved by the people that they demanded his son be the one to succeed him? What I'm saying is popular OR unpopular with the public, Regent Harry has every potential to be messy af. I cannot see any scenario in which anyone not in the direct line is put on the throne, or even close to it, excepting the vastly unlikely scenario of the deaths of HM, Charles, William and all of William's children.

by Anonymousreply 380June 14, 2019 2:16 AM

Well. R380, if something happens to William while he’s king—and the scenario would be that Charles and QEII have already passed—someone will have to be regent if he passes at a young age. I don’t know who that would be, but George will be nowhere near ready until at least 20 years from now to fulfill the duties. Think of the Queen and what she does on a daily basis—hell, through her whole career—and no way would even a 20-year-old be able to do it.

by Anonymousreply 381June 14, 2019 2:21 AM

Harry would be a more logical regent than anyone else. Kate has firmly painted herself as focussed on home and hearth.

R395, As I recall reading numerous comments on YouTube videos as well as by various hosts the strongest evidence is that MM closest childhood and college friends were at least 3 years older than her official stated age. Common for actresses to lie about their age too.

by Anonymousreply 400June 14, 2019 3:45 AM

Honestly just knowing when she graduated college should provide a lot of insight. Not foolproof, but definitely provides margins.

R396 - I don't know the actual rules, but what you outlined is what I assumed would be the most likely (i.e. most frictionless) arrangement - Kate and a council of advisors.

So who read that Sun article posted by R383? Heavy on the implications, typical tabloid-speak. They go to some minor lengths to cover their asses by saying Rose had dinner with William a few times while her husband was away on business but Kate knew about it and it was all on the up and up (which begs the question as to why Rose is being shunned by Kate, which is the whole point of the article). Heavy implications of trouble in the Cholmonde-fuckit marriage, as well. In fact given that William has called in the lawyers over this, it's a somewhat brazen story, although again they're careful only to imply.

I dunno, I didn't think it was true, and this doesn't make me think it is but they're not dropping it...

If those two cheated, how fucking stupid were they to let it be discovered? That's sloppy af, especially if her marriage is possibly going to end of it. She had it made with that rich as hell old dude who was always away. If she got caught then damn, what a dummy. William too.

Also, if it *did* happen then an Oscar to Kate for her absolutely believable "everything is fab and we're super happy and in love" act over the past year, which looked and felt completely genuine to me. Not saying it isn't, I'm just kinda wondering now...

She will, however, “die”. As will you, me and everybody else who isn’t already dead.

by Anonymousreply 405June 14, 2019 3:58 AM

R403 please go back to celebitchy with your tired old Rose nonsense. For the last time, a Meghan supporter named Nicole Cliffe made up the rumors about Prince William and she admitted it herself on her social media. It never happened. Bye now.

by Anonymousreply 406June 14, 2019 4:01 AM

R403, what if the real story all along was trouble in the Cholmonde-fuckit marriage? What if that is what was going on and Rose has been inviting guests over? She could be legitimately bored and in need of company. Nonetheless, Kate has an eagle eye for perfect behavior and could say to Wills "You need to cool it on the private dinners - not that you have done anything wrong or that I don't trust you implicitly - but because this situation has the potential for scandal and my job is to avoid anything that smells like scandal."

What if that is how it went down?

by Anonymousreply 407June 14, 2019 4:02 AM

Laughable attempts to push the Rose rumours at r406 since it's not gaining traction anywhere else. The more this is pushed, the better Kate looks and more sympathy she amasses with the Brit public. Rose, who? as your bitchy feminist pals at Lainey and CB would say

Tolerant as Kate may be, there is no way she’d sanction William’s “private dinners” with a voluptuous brunette, lonely and presumably sexless, who has a husband always away with his close “friends” in Paris.

R403 AKA the Laduree Macaron Tower Troll AKA Vice Undersecretary of the Meghan Markle Sucks A Giant Whale's Cock Club here. Y'alls calm the shit down. You understand that just because MM is a vapid famewhore who personifies the "be careful what you wish for" idiom doesn't logically imply that William didn't cheat on Kate, right? And did you not understand from my post when I repeatedly said I am not yet convinced he did? But that in the interest of honest gossip, I must consider that he may have? I mean, privileged male cheats on beautiful, loyal wife isn't exactly a shocking suggestion, right?

Will it help if I say of the two brothers I'd put my money on Harry being the more likely to stray?

Being so partisan is boring for gossip. I hope William didn't cheat on Kate and am open to the idea that he didn't. In fact R407 comes up with a very believable scenario whereby a bored young aristo wife gets a little too friendly with a friend's husband and said friend nips that shit right in the bud (which is totally what Kate would do, you can tell) before it can go beyond sloppy giggles and hungry stares over roast p(h)easant. But just because I dislike Meghan and her army of fraucophants doesn't mean I have to become one of them but just for another player.

And for the record, I don't think there was any Kate PR in that Sun article. I'm convinced her PR strategy (outside of her official work and lovely photos of her and her family on social media) is to follow the RF adage of never complain, never explain. She's made the right choice not to get involved in this tabloid fuckery, and Meghan would do well to follow her (obviously too late on that, though).

by Anonymousreply 420June 14, 2019 5:51 AM

R419 I didn't say the cosmo piece was good PR. I said I enjoy it. The facts that it is glaringly obvious undermines its effectiveness IMO.

There's an interesting comment on R328's link - QEII is the first monarch since George II not to have their life overlap with Queen Victoria's.

That's a lot of monarchs: George III, George IV, William IV, Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII and George VI.

by Anonymousreply 422June 14, 2019 6:01 AM

R403 R407 R420 We don't buy your bullshit sorry, stop trying to spin old debunked stories dressed up with new details.

William and Rose didn't happen and of course there are new stories in the press again because on Saturday MM looked like a beached whale and the Cambridges looked fabulous hence the new (old) stories of Rose and William. If anyone knows a narc they know the get filled with rage and jealousy and act out in a pretty puerile manner. MM wasn't expecting Louis to be so cute and for her to be pushed to the back of the balcony, so the Cambridges must be punished. I'm surprised that is all MM has left in her arsenal tbh, it's pretty pathetic because no one really believes it.

R378 - Depends how old George is at the time. If he's 16, the likelihood is that Kate, after nearly two decades within the family, will at a minimum be made a Privy Councillor, and a Regent would be so much window dressing, as the legal age of succession is 18. However, there is no law preventing Parliament agreeing to skip a Regency if the next in line is under 18 but close to it. Kate would be made a Privy Councillor to, as they say, "saferguard" her son's interests.

The Regent is supposed to be the next in the line of succession who is over 21. If William dies before George reaches 18, that would be Harry. If something has happened to Harry, as well, whilst Willliam is King, with Harry's children even younger than George, I regret to inform you all that the next in line as Regent would be . . . .

HRH Prince Andrew, Duke of York (shades of the Wars of the Roses, as the male Sovereign is also technically the Duke of Lancaster). If Andrew has also been raptured, his eldest daughter, HRH Princess Beatrice of York, becomes Regent.

The press would have a blast.

I really can't see how Harry could possibly be considered as regent, his past is public knowledge. His own father let the rehab leak.

We would end up with the naked, swastika-d, vodka eyeballing, coke snorting pictures being rerun again and again.

I would assume that Kate would have a council of advisers and family. Andrew, Anne and Edward being involved.

by Anonymousreply 473June 14, 2019 1:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 474June 14, 2019 1:25 PM

R474, Clearly there's schism between MM and her husband or there wouldn't be so many leaks in the Daily Fail et al of serious discord. Prince Harry is choosing BRF loyalty over his wife. Recall the stories of her overspending and lying about being pregnant with Archie? Well, where is he? Why don't we know about all of the staff she would have had to have hired?

by Anonymousreply 475June 14, 2019 1:28 PM

And if he IS choosing the BRF over his ham-handed wife, then it's the first intelligent thing he's done in......well, ever.

by Anonymousreply 476June 14, 2019 1:32 PM

Harry would never, ever, ever be able to make it on his own. He needs the BRF, whereas they could get on quite fine without him. I wonder if that's actually dawned on him. The York ladies could fill in for him. He's totally expendable.

by Anonymousreply 477June 14, 2019 1:35 PM

The York ladies are bringing the interest, Eug is not long married, so a baby is undoubtedly on the horizon. And Bea is bringing delicious gossip with her interesting and quite intriguing boyfriend. Plus, they have stepped up to the mark, attending engagements with ease, no ham handedness, they have slotted into what appear to be new roles very nicely.

Everyone is so over Harry and his grasping wife. Maybe he has woken up? Maybe MM shouldn't have taught him to be more woke? Maybe it has opened his eyes.

by Anonymousreply 478June 14, 2019 1:42 PM

R423, this is R407. Did you actually comprehend my post before putting me on blast? Because it's clear from the scenario I proposed that I do not believe the rumor about Rose and Will and am digging in to discover the why of it all. Aside from Meg's friend running with the "OOH - look over here - Will's cheating!" angle SOMETHING happened in the house of Chomleythehell.

Now we know that even though it's a gorgeous pile, she only lives in a portion of it because it's on the tour circuit to make money for upkeep. Her boring old husband is partying all the time in Paris. She's stuck alone in the country, without any attention (no longer modeling) and inviting people over for dinners. Kate zeroed in on the potential for inappropriateness and shut it down. Will shut it down. Meg's stan ran with it as "Will is Cheating!!" And you are criticizing me for sussing this out.

You're a bore and an oxygen-stealer. If you haven't considered fucking off, it's time.

by Anonymousreply 480June 14, 2019 1:54 PM

Ok, a lot of the press are running stories about the nanny, and the very extensive NDA..

From Cosmo.....

" A separate source told Bazaar.com that the British born nanny doesn’t work weekends and isn’t based at Frogmore cottage, before insisting that Meghan and Harry are keen to do the bulk of the hard work on their own."

Why not live at FroHo? Because no-one lives there?

Harry doesn't appear to be doing any " bulk of the hard work ", he's never home.

Is this extensive NDA thing across so many outlets, because the real truth is that someone has walked, and threatened to talk? ( Don't shoot the messenger).

"Doesn't work weekends", " doesn't live in " sounds more like my grandmother's home care package.

WTF with all the mystery and the cross stories? Why all this attention when she screams she wants privacy? I reckon the next six months are going to be pretty explosive, when it comes to the Sussex duo.

Sex in the air, I don't care, I love the smell of it

But Fergie's breasts excite me

by Anonymousreply 482June 14, 2019 1:56 PM

R481, that’s a very interesting revelation: nanny is not Frogmore-based. (I’m one of the insane conspiracy theorists that suspect they don’t live at Frogmore.)

Also, if your only job is a newborn, it’s not heavy work. It’s low-level drudge, and constant. Breastfeeding is demanding because it needs to be done every two or three hours at the beginning - if you’re doing it as requested and not using bottles. The hard work is managing everything else; laundry and shopping and cooking. And we know she’s not doing THAT.

by Anonymousreply 483June 14, 2019 2:05 PM

R482 = low standards which match Fergie's breasts.

by Anonymousreply 484June 14, 2019 2:06 PM

No doubt the York women are being tested and primed to fill in where the Sussexes can’t/won’t. Harry does seem to show up for his engagements, although unsmiling and sloppily- and casually-dressed.

It can’t be lost on him that his cousins are willing and able to perform the “boring” duties that are beneath his wife.

Harry is not the man for facial hair - it's just not a good look on him. To be fair, he's a ginger and though ginger women may be beautiful it's a heavier lift for a man. Why is he sporting it when it really only makes him look frizzier and rumpled? Can't someone give this man a makeover? Is it because he ribbed Wills for so long about the hair loss, that now he's losing his own he's aiming for distraction? It's not working. He looks like a muppet, of late.

We're back to saying Meghan lied to Harry about being pregnant? Logic is sorely lacking here.

Notice there's no mention of Meghan bringing Archie to TTC to meet the rest of the family. If they're all staring at a silicone baby, then the entire BRF is complicit in defrauding the British taxpayers.

And, for the idiots frothing at the mouth, that includes HM, the DoE, William the Bald and Saint Catherine of the Yacht as they've all acknowledged meeting Archie.

Pick a new lie and lay this one to rest.

Now run along back to CB to obsess over the eating arrangements of Rose.

by Anonymousreply 501June 14, 2019 2:28 PM

What's with the delusional bitches on here pretending that there's nothing to the Rose, William, Kate story?

This a thread with posters who believe the Sussexes don't live at Frogmore based purely on an anonymous post from someone who claimed they walked their dog nearby.

The fucking Times ran a story on the falling out between Kate and Rose. It's no smoking gun but there seems to be more than enough to gossip about. Besides, the Cambridges are acting like they're on the defensive. They are notoriously private. William sued a photographer for taking a picture of George from a public path. Yet right after the story broke Will and Kate allowed themselves to be photographed on a family day out with the Tindalls. Now they've let a hotel post an image from their "secret" date in Cumbria.

How much more is needed for this to be fair speculative gossip fodder?

Well, whatever happened (or didn’t) with Rose, the Cambridges are still performing their duties with a united front. They’re showing up for their engagements, well-dressed and smiling.

by Anonymousreply 504June 14, 2019 2:33 PM

Catherine may indeed be serving her people well according to the study at the link. Clever cause to champion and one that seems quite genuine. Long and short game to the Cambs.

The playfulness and ease of the parents and children in the garden videos is something the Sussexes will never be able to match.

William was fighting a cold at TTC and George seemed to be under the weather. He seems happy and energetic typically in public, his being subdued and his father feeling his forehead suggest a mild illness. All 3 kids seem happy and well connected to their parents. Good for them.

William has gone through all Harry has, and did not remain a manchild. At mid-life, that is really on Dim, not his past.

by Anonymousreply 510June 14, 2019 2:37 PM

R487, in theory, Bea and Eugenie could be seen as supporting cast remembers but they're not supplanting the son of the heir to the British throne. No amount of drama will downgrade Harry's position within that hierarchy. Wish for something else, dear.

And, while I look forward to Edo joining the BRF, I understand the storm that would come from him marrying Beatrice. You can't possibly despise Meghan so much that you can't see that Edo is beyond "gossip fodder"... he's a train wreck. Out of wedlock son, jilted fiancée, social (dick) climbing mother, no discernible income or profession, blended family issues...it is a lot and the taxpayers will be expected to cover a nice chunk of that.

Strangely enough, I see them using the acceptance of Meghan as the reason to shoe horn Edo in, even though they're two separate kettles of fish. And, it will lead to the reintroduction of Fergie which, while entertaining, will be a mistake. They will have to be smart...you think the Sussexes are grasping? Wait for the rebranded House of York, headed by everyone's favorite dolt, Andrew.

They will be the source of delight for the gossip mongering public and a whirling dervish of hell for the BP suits. They'll reminisce fondly for the 'innocuous' panderings of Meghan.

by Anonymousreply 511June 14, 2019 2:39 PM

'The playfulness and ease of the parents and children in the garden videos is something the Sussexes will never be able to match.'

How the hell do you know this, absurd Welp Troll? Harry and Meghan look genuinely in love, which Bald and Kate never did. Harry kept holding her hand at engagements against all royal protocol. Their interactions with Archie will also be tender.

by Anonymousreply 512June 14, 2019 2:40 PM

R510 A story being completely made up has never stopped it from being fair game: surrogacy theory; moon bump; Darren the silicone baby...

This syndicated thread thinks Lord Snowden, the sucking of Fergie's toes, the execution of the Romanovs and Diana, Princess of Wales are current topics. Nothing is completely over on this BRF thread.

by Anonymousreply 513June 14, 2019 2:47 PM

R502 - The fucking TIMES also ran the Tiaragate story with no evidence except that Jobson included it in his book and the tabloids ran the story. The TIMES doesn't mind sullying its hands once in a while. The TIMES running it means nothing. There was no more "evidence" about William shagging Rose than there was about Tiaragate, Meghan abusing staff whilst at Admiralty House Down Under, or anything else . . . some of the stories seem more persuasive and some less, but given the Sussexes' increasing desperation to improve their unexpectedly lousy performance in the press and Meghan's in the popularity polls compared to Kate, taking the Cambridges down is the next best thing to doing better with the public and the press on their own.

You back into by asking, "Cui bono?"

The Sussexes, particularly in their own disordered minds, are the only ones who benefit from a story that damages the Cambridges, especially given that contrary to all predictions, Meghan not only hasn't outshone Kate, she's made Kate look like Princess Perfect.

Rose and her husband don't benefit, the Cambridges don't benefit, the BRF don't benefit . . . only the Sussexes could possibly benefit from the leak of a story like that.

Is it prima facie evidence? No. But the story itself doesn't have prima facie evidence, either.

Look, Mabel...the Rose story has been printed and corroborated by people running in those circles. Giles Coren posted about it before deleting. There may have been an affair, there may not have been but the Cambridge's current behavior is terribly obvious that they're trying to portray a united front. The date night leak is out of character for them; why was it done?

Blaming the Sussexes is beyond stupid; I'm sure they have seen/heard better gossip about William the Bald and Coalmining Catherine. They are not bothered about their pseudolove or the attention they receive, as there is room for everyone. Sadly, people like you don't get that.

The media doesn't play favorites when it comes to circulation and William dipping out on his pretty wife like his father, sells. There is no honor amongst thieves and no amount of mudslinging okayed by William to keep his shit hidden will keep papers from making a buck. It's only a matter of time before we find out exactly why the brothers remain estranged...betting on William throwing the Sussexes under the bus being the root cause.

by Anonymousreply 526June 14, 2019 3:18 PM

[quote] The Sussexes, particularly in their own disordered minds, are the only ones who benefit from a story that damages the Cambridges

The media benefit from the story more than the Sussexes. Sex sells. Depending on how the Cambridges spin the story, they could benefit too. The "feud" between the brothers and the Turnip Toff foolishness has generated more interest in Cambridges than they've had since the maybe the wedding, or possibly George's birth.

I don't know if William dipped in pen in other inkwells but it wouldn't be strange if he did. I find it silly that posters are saying it's outside the realm of possibility.

R514 Tiaragate may or may not be true, but it's accepted as credible enough to gossip about in these parts. The Turnip Toff story is in the same category ie a rumour that has enough legs to make it to the broadsheets. There is no need for "evidence" beyond that on a gossip thread.

by Anonymousreply 527June 14, 2019 3:22 PM

How can he move in those circles when his circle is Oxfordshire? Not Norfolk. During a drunken interview he accused his neighbours of being drug addled swingers. This is the Oxford / Great Tew neighbours. Where Meg and Harry were reported to be living. Soho Farmhouse vicinity.

Not, Norfolk. He has no friends nor enemies in Norfolk. So has does not mingle in that area.

by Anonymousreply 531June 14, 2019 3:27 PM

R527 - "There is no need for "evidence" beyond that on a gossip thread".

Perhaps. But there is need for more evidence for natural skeptics like me to believe the rumors.

by Anonymousreply 532June 14, 2019 3:27 PM

"Printed and corroborated" by "people who know".

Such as, for example: the media and people seething with spite. Right. In that case, we have no problem insisting that the entire BRF hates Meghan Markle's guts, that Harry is already regretting his hasty decision, that the Africa trip is a prelude to getting the Sussexes out of Britain because the public can't stand her, either, and her million dollar wardrobe . . . I guess, then, that Robert Jobson's bio on Charles that came out in spring 2018 running the "What Meghan wants, Meghan gets!" quote by Harry is, therefore . . . gospel truth.

by Anonymousreply 535June 14, 2019 3:29 PM

Meghan is not 37, more like 40, 41. The way she was constantly holding on to her stomach, pulling back her coats to stick it out and the way she constantly cradled it was abnormal behavior. I wouldn’t be surprised if they used a surrogate. The way everything was handled about the birth was extremely odd. I’m no conspiracy theorist; if you look at Meghan’s childhood and adolescence, they are of a child from the 70’s. The Danja Zone lady might be a CT but if you look at the video she posted of all Meghan’s photos it is proof.

by Anonymousreply 536June 14, 2019 3:30 PM

R532 My comments are directed at people who keep dismissing any discussion of the Rose rumour as the ravings of Megastans who work for Sunshine Sachs. The story may be true or it may be false, but I think there's enough there for a discussion by skeptics and lovers of royal gossip.

That's my 2 cents.

by Anonymousreply 537June 14, 2019 3:32 PM

R527 - I have no objection to gossip. I object to someone insisting that I have to believe gossip on its face. People who don't like the Cambridges jeer at people who aren't taking the Rose-William story seriously (which I don't) and people who don't like the Sussexes jeer at people who don't take the Tiaragate or staff abuse or Duchess Difficult stories seriously.

Rose isn't even particularly good-looking. William's got a lot on his plate these days, and his wife has behaved with stellar discretion in her role. Certainly the media benefit by it. The whole "rural rival-turnip Toffs" story smelled. So did the Meghan sex tape story.

Am I happy to gossip about them? Yes. Do I take umbrage at being called naive if I really don't think people talking and media frenzy feeding constitute "corroboration"? Also yes.

by Anonymousreply 538June 14, 2019 3:33 PM

R514- Everything you said is absolutely spot on.

R512- Are you a frau? Harry and Meghan are sooooo in love because they HELD HANDS??? On camera? Seriously? You must think Brad and Angie WERE THE PERFECT COUPLE TOO (until they weren't) because omg their CHEMISTRY IN PUBLIC!!! Give me a break. And Im not saying that Will and St Kate look in love or anything but at least they're not desperate or cloying. There very well might be cheating or issues in the marriage but it looks like a proper grown up relationship. The other two are trying to sell OMG THE PRINCE AND THE SHOWGIRL 2.0 to tweens and millennials and cringeworthy beyond belief! Seriously, I haven't met a single adult in the UK who thinks they're such an aspirational couple because of their great love. Nobody thinks that about Will and Kate either but sheesh, you are gullible and standing hard. Take it down a notch, please.

by Anonymousreply 539June 14, 2019 3:33 PM

Meghan is not popular in the UK. Only cat ladies, chavs and old men in the North care about the BRF and nobody cares for her. They care for Charles and Camilla even less and no amount of gardening or image rehab will ever change that- which is a pity because I quite like Cam myself. Currently Kate, Harry and William have an unbeatable popularity. It's the honest truth and honestly the rest is just spin, spin, spin.

by Anonymousreply 548June 14, 2019 3:38 PM

R544 - It's no guarantee of fidelity but in this case and at this point in his life as he moves ever closer to becoming Prince of Wales, William has a great deal more to lose. And the family's sympathies would be with his dutiful, well-behaved wife. Why the fuck bother? What does he get out of it? A few rolls in the hay. He and his wife looked genuinely close and happy on the balcony last week. The Sussexes didn't. And Harry looked sullen in the carriage ride, never looking once at his wife, nor did Camilla. I think the optics don't suggest an embittered wife holding the side up nobly. I think they suggested a close family and a close married couple.

William knows the game well enough. If he did decide to have it off on the side, he'd have been much more careful than that.

by Anonymousreply 550June 14, 2019 3:39 PM

R545 - The public always knew about Charles's fondness for Camilla, but his return to her arms as his marriage went from difficult to impossible (which I think was a couple of years after Harry's birth) was an open secret for years in the upper levels of society, because his friends offered him "safe houses" where he could stay with her. It was the Morton book that blew it all open for the public in 1992.

R527

"I don't know if William dipped in pen in other inkwells but it wouldn't be strange if he did. I find it silly that posters are saying it's outside the realm of possibility."

That's because you're gay. He's a straight guy who was traumatized by his father's cheating. He married the most emotionally grounded and family oriented woman he ever met (who's good looking in high fashion). He married a mature, emotionally stable version of his mother - so that he could "undo" what his father did. He's going to be emotionally and physically faithful spouse, and an emotionally and physically available parent. This is his way of undoing what happened to his mother. He's not going to let it happen to his children.

by Anonymousreply 552June 14, 2019 3:43 PM

More correctly, the British pay for the upkeep of HRH Prince Harry, and whomever he is married to (however unfortunate) at the time. The BRF protects HRH Prince Harry because he is of them. His wife is protected only insofar as it avoids collateral damage.

by Anonymousreply 563June 14, 2019 3:59 PM

Some of the posters here seem so bourgeois and unworldly. I’m weary and stunned over the outrage. Regardless William’s fidelity or not, aristocrats/ royalty have always had extramarital affairs, lovers and mistresses. No one in their set cares. For example, King Edward VII and Prince Philip are among countless others recently and throughout history.

by Anonymousreply 564June 14, 2019 4:03 PM

The Royals are maintained because of the boost they give to tourism, so yes, the world does pay Meghan's keep.

by Anonymousreply 565June 14, 2019 4:04 PM

R564, no outrage over Bald's adultery, yet Off With Her Head over dangling tendrils and price tags?

2019 is not forgiving of marital transgressions at all, especially when the wife is beautiful and sweet.

by Anonymousreply 566June 14, 2019 4:07 PM

Patently untrue and faulty reasoning, R565. The Royal family has been feeding plebs this line about 'earning from tourism' for decades. Simply not true. The money they get is the loot from duchies and from citizens and they don't earn back squat from tourism. The tourists would still come and see BP, KP and Clarence House if the BRF were not there.

So no the world is NOT paying her bills, unfortunately. It's just us fools.

by Anonymousreply 567June 14, 2019 4:10 PM

TLDR: Do NOT care if Harry or William cheating, only care about Diana and Fergie and DO NOT care for shite fashion- THAT is unforgivable. Clearer now?

by Anonymousreply 568June 14, 2019 4:14 PM

It's absurd and very naive to assert that William wouldn't be absolutely hated and reviled by the British public if he was found to be committing adultery. This is a different world even from the 1980s. If you think the fraus and #MeToo crowd would overlook that, you are completely out of touch. Cheating when his baby son is only one year old? His popularity rating would plummet.

by Anonymousreply 569June 14, 2019 4:17 PM

R567 - I love British history and much of the love comes from a childhood of reading about kings, queens, princes, princesses and their exploits. Of course, I can only speak for myself but the castles and palaces are so much more interesting BECAUSE of the people who still live there. These places wouldn't be half as intriguing for me if they were empty. It gives them a life of their own. The exceptions may be Versailles (I'm a big Louis The Sun King fan) and the Hermitage (Catherine the Great and her excellent Art collection).

Jesus, the dumb Celebitchy Namaste Troll at R574 is absolutely tragic. Attempting to shut down debate again and again. She wants the entire 72 threads to be echo chambers repeating 'MM is a nefarious narc' over and over again.

by Anonymousreply 576June 14, 2019 4:31 PM

All the dirt thrown on the Cambridges is not going to make Meghan look better by comparison.

I never said that R576. I DO NOT think MM is narc at all actually. But stop moralising and sermonising on bourgeoise marital ethics. It's the DL. Seriously. Have you never been here?

by Anonymousreply 579June 14, 2019 4:32 PM

R577, Bald's adultery makes the Harkle marriage look strong in comparison. Everyone knows Harry married for love and William's was a marriage of convenience only.

by Anonymousreply 580June 14, 2019 4:34 PM

sorry, should be bourgeois and 'a narc'

R552, you withered bitch. Where the fuck do you get off implying such bullshit? How fucking dare you? You are so ridiculously stupid for those little remark suggesting that gay men aren't capable of fidelity but it's one of the things I've complained about over and over again in these threads: the bigotry, racism and homophobia goes from dog whistle level to overt, with few calling it out.

William is blowing another bitch's back out...bet on it. No amount of Eliza Doolittling is going to make Coalmining Catherine a true toff and William, who is known to be a massive snot, appreciates the stability of his home life and is doing his duty but finding happiness elsewhere. Like his father. And, grandfathers before that.

Kate may wear the jewels but she doesn't even have her husband's heart. She hasn't cracked yet and for that I give credit...she's already passed the eating disorder stage and has now reached the country rival bit. Next is Kate herself cheating...she's following the Diana playbook right before our eyes. From the engagement ring (what kind of woman would accept a ring associated with such a toxic marriage? A deluded, desperate one), the maternity dress choice, down to repeating dressing her sons up in the exact outfits of the her husband and BIL. As you lot like to crow, "the optics" are telling a story of a very fragile, one-sided love affair.

But, you're a piece of shit; you wouldn't know genuine affection if it slapped across your jowly maw. Bitch.

R568, your type is almost as bad as R552. You're okay with her thinking as long as she's maligning Meghan? Okay, bruh...

by Anonymousreply 584June 14, 2019 4:36 PM

R578, that's crazy, it's like MM on the TTC balcony. But not only that....the jaw gurning. I have time for the original Wallis, though. She had style.

"Dog whistle " Dog whistle"

by Anonymousreply 586June 14, 2019 4:38 PM

R584 - why don't you try to practice less bigotry yourself? Your post just reeks of misogyny.

Good one, R586.

I think the page has turned and no matter how much her PR huff and puff, we, the public have all seen behind the curtain.

The strenuous attempts to get this thread closed or to drive people off it does make me wonder about those Sunday papers. ;)

WEHT Tiara troll? We need you now!

by Anonymousreply 591June 14, 2019 4:44 PM

R567 I have zero time for that "they pay for themselves through tourism!" line, too. Not just for MM but for the lot of them. Every time I hear someone spout it (and I've been surprised over the past few years by how many ordinary people with low levels of interest in the BRF seem willing to do so - the PR has been successful there) I just roll my eyes. Pay for themselves. LOL.

Giles Coren, to the poster who cited him as a source for the Rose story, and for the record, does *not* run in the circles that Will and Kate run in. Coren and his sister are well educated and run in well-educated London media circles, but he's definitely not in the countryside aristo set. GC is a known ornery c*nt and anyone who has any idea of who he is knows that Tweet was just his usual mean-spirited 'thinks it's gonna be funny but it's just weird and mean' BS. I'm open to there possibly being some truth in the Rose rumours, but a random tweet from Sir Definitely Doesn't Get Invited To Those Parties isn't going to do it.

Lol @ R512 - really? I find Harry and Meghan clinging to and pawing at each other embarrassing and obviously OTT. In fact it's one of the reasons I don't think the marriage is going to last - they were both, early in the marriage, still in high school infatuation mode. Their romance was given no time to mature into whatever it is that it's going to mature into and when that honeymoon phase wears off (which it appears to be in the midst of rapidly doing) I think there's a decent chance of this eventually going spectacularly to hell.

Troll Troll, I'm going to have to block you again my dear. Someone else said you were tenacious as hell and they're right, I'll give you that. But it really is quite boring. Sometimes people disagree with you or have differing opinions to your own.

Sigh. R584 - Every now and again someone posts here who does genuinely sound unhinged. R552s reasoning is suspect to me, too (it is NOT an impossibility that Will - or Harry - will cheat "because Diana") but jfc, calm down. It's just gossip and it's meant to be fun.

R587, you can fuck right off with your faux outrage re: my alleged misogyny towards that withered sack at R552. When she and her coven are vile with their misogynistic, bigoted, homophobic, racist prattling towards the BRF's latest punching bags, you sit quiet.

R552 is a big girl that can dish, so it means she can take. Be gone, Captain Save-A-Frau.

I'm female by the way and smell the fetid jealousy and hatred exuded by my fellow "women"; I'm not going to defend bullshit in the quest for gender solidarity. Sorry.
