Ron C takes over writing, Will returns from the dead, and Sonny is immediately enraptured with Will again. Will, however, has amnesia and falls for Paul, whom he'd had hot sex with which led to his marriage collapsing.

Will found the old divorce papers and signed them, even though Sonny begged him not to. But Will wanted to be with hot Paul not his desperate former husband.

And then Will unfortunately got his memory back.

Caroline hasn’t been seen onscreen since January 2017. I believe Roman or Kayla made a comment eons ago about her being away visiting distant relatives. Not much else has been said of her since. Poor Peggy McKay’s health must have really gone south quickly. It seems the show was still planning on using her to pepper the story as they do with John Aniston and The Hayes.

In dialogue Caroline left to help Kimberley who was going through a health issue.

Peggy was always slated to return. She was written out for Peggy to have orthopedic surgery, go thru physical rehab then return.

Sadly, she had a stroke post op. Her return was delayed but according to her niece she was intent of recovering. Her health took a turn for the worse months later when she had a second stroke. It was then everyone knew she wouldn't be coming back.

One glaring error with the whole mask thing (well the whole thing is bizarre) is that Kristen talks like Nicole when no one else is around. I mean I know it is the actress who plays Nicole but in the storyline it is supposed to be Kristen, so it seems stupid that she would continue to talk like Nicole in front of Xander or when she is by herself. They should record Stacy Haiduk saying the dialog in those scenes and just play it on air.

I would have preferred Strasser coming onto the show to play a new character, Xander's mother, than play Vivian who will forever be Louise Sorel.

We never really got to feel the many, many beats that should have occurred form Daniel's tragic death, since everything then centered on Brady's heart and Eric's self-pitying. Really, Maggie and Sarah should treat Eric horribly, no matter how much time has gone by.

There really are people out there who walk a tightrope between selfishness and giving. That was great to see (as the audience) today that Eve is very worried about Will and was glad that the diary had mad it into the right hands.

We are reminded of her grief over Paige's death. It was a great touch showing the photo of Paige in Eve's hand today. That is exactly what many people would be doing after their family member was murdered.

BTW, I'm a Ben fan and have no problem with his being cured of his mental illness.

KDP really sells it when she cares for Claire like a daughter and is very worried that Claire needs medical help for her lunacy.

I completely agree with your R138, but that is all of them, not just Days - except Bold. These shows need to go back to the way they told stories back in the 60s and 70s when they had low budgets. Instead they are telling stories that they can't afford to tell. The 80s and 90s are over. Bold is the only remaining soap with a budget for travel and wardrobe and sets. Y&R is almost as bad as Days. GH has more variety because of the way they tape the show.

As R167 said. YR is owned and distributed by Sony (Bell and Corday both own small but insignificant percentages). Days is owned by Corday and Sony and distributed by Sony. Bold is owned and distributed by the Bell Family. Bold is #1 show worldwide and Bell reinvests some of that foreign money back into the soap, which is why Bold still looks good and has a budget.

As for ratings and budgets. NBC and CBS pay a licensing fee to air these shows. A big chunk of the show's budget comes from these licensing fees. This is pretty much the beef that Corday has with Sony. They are saying that Sony negotiated a low licencing fee with NBC and hasn't been selling the show to foreign markets, which affects Days budget.

I'm not sure if this is still the case, but I remember reading an article that said that B&B, Sunset Beach, and Santa Barbara are the top three shows sold to foreign markets. Days used to be a contender, but Corday say that Sony pushed the sale of Y&R over Days. (Personally, I think this is all a plan by Ken to sell the show to NBC).

B&B debuted in 1987, but it wasn't unitl 1992 when the Sheila Carter character crossed over from Genoa City to Los Angeles that we learned the two shows were in the same universe.

Since then, the characters of Lauren, Amber and Deacon have all moved from one city to the other for long term stays at one point or another. Meanwhile, Victor, Katherine, Brooke and Eric (and probably a few others) have all crossed over for a day or two here and there.

Have they managed to get a gay character at Bold?

There are minor recurring gay characters that pop up on B&B now and then: Jared, the reporter; Karen Spencer, the lesbian sister of Bill Spencer; Danielle Spencer, wife of Karen Spencer; Saul, the tailor at the revitalized (but currently backburnered) Spectre Fashions.

Also the transgender character of Maya Forrester. She was married to Rick Forrester, but Rick abruptly left her last fall with no explanation. I think the last time Maya was seen was at Christmas.

The lowered licensing for Days was said to be one of the conditions from NBC in order to renew the show.

Reading Ken Corday's book and interviews with him, I learned that his parents, Ted and Betty Corday, worked at As The World Turns first with Agnes Nixon and Irma Phillips

Agnes was best friends with his parents and was like an Aunt to the Corday children, they called her Aunt Aggie

The Corday's were from NYC and DAYS was originally supposed to be a NYC lensed soap, Irma Phillips helped write the Bible. Agnes Nixon also was supposed to be part of DAYS upon it's 1965 premiere

Agnes of course created One Life to Live in 1968 and All My Children in 1970, how odd must it have been for Agnes to have her All My Children as the direct competitor to Days of Our Lives, a show created by friends and their children who were like kids to her?

Minor characters are "recurring players" like Rory, Maxine & Annie. They're not contract players, don't cost a bundle & for them to return for a day would be $5,000 at the most (for Maxine perhaps?). As I mentioned in my previous post Maxine & others wouldn't be stirring up much drama if they were only coming back for a "special day" (for my R210 example - Rory hanging out for JJ to show he has someone in his life that isn't a girlfriend or relative). Eve also has no galpals who like interacting with her with both Chloe & Claire leaving soon. Annie showing up once (or twice a year) to talk to Eve at Doug's Place would be better (& cheaper) than nothing. The show seems to forget that "outsider friends" lets you see what is on a schemer's mind. Right now, Chloe is the show's best example with Eve.

Contract Players are the "old favorites" like Jack, Nicole, Chad, Abigail, Steve, Chloe, Ben, Eric & Andre/ Tony that appear in the main cast credits. They cost a bundle like Sami who was making a reported $1.5 million a year ($125,000 a month) before she left. Newer characters that aren't being played by soap vets would be a good cost saving idea for a show that has a very tight budget. The new Haley character is a good example of this strategy.

I liked ReRon's Horita stuff at least. That twist surprised me, and managed to explore the chemistry of the two actors. The melodramatic WilSon stuff could be much better if only Chambo and FCF still had their chemistry from their first go around. Outside of the gay characters, not much else on the show just really impressed me. Tripp is good to look at but his story line never went far from being boyfriend of one of the girls. Had high hope for Ben but once more he is just used for the forbidden dangerous bf and not much else. Xander is probably the best thing being a wild card and an entertaining one at that. I just wish the show would make him the mastermind instead of always being someone else's goon, and of course tying him down with Sarah is not the way to make him more interesting. But this show is on the road to cancellation, so what does it matter?

I think most of Days problems are budget related, which is why I think the show needs a new Executive Producer. Someone who is skilled at working with tight budget, but also someone who will overhaul the taping schedule which will allow more and different sets to be used, but also allow different character combinations. I like Ron’s writing of the show for the most part, but sometimes characters can feel islanded. Which is part guarantee and part the way the show is taped. I think a new EP with the ability to overhaul the production side of things could really make a huge difference.

Days keeps switching writers, but keeps the same producers. Maybe it’s time for someone new. Ken isn’t going anywhere, but he doesn’t deal with the day to day to stuff anyway.

I'd agree with the typical redeeming of an "evil character like Ben, BUT that guy is an ASSHOLE. Not sure if it's Rob's inability or poor direction or what but Ben doesn't seem very remorseful. For the past 6 months or so, Ciara can't really say a line without the word "Ben" in it. She is too one dimensional in the character department. A viewer knows what is going to come out of her mouth even before she says anything. It's awful.

The only good thing about Claire finally being outed as the cabin pyro is Ciara won't have to defend Ben about for months to come. The fewer times she mentions his name the better it is for me as a longtime viewer.

Also as others have mentioned above, Eve is the best (most real) female character they have onscreen at the moment. She is believable in words, thoughts & actions. Her holding her current job is a stretch but the character (& the actress) are both capable of pulling the stunt off with 100% credibility. I like her paired with Jack more than I did with Brady. The way the show is being written now, it seems she will be soon be separated/divorced from Jack who will be getting his memories back before the year is out. That's a shame. I think Eve & Jack have some great chemistry, fun times & credible schemes as a life wrecking couple.
