I think it’s because they’re such an unexpected, yet gorgeous pairing as well as the fact that Brandon is the first guy Richard has had public romance rumors with and seems to actually be dating him (privately). I know I first became intrigued after seeing the first set of pictures where Richard has his hand gripping Brandon’s neck and then with all of the research and finding out they were living together. I think the fact that Madden is also a rising Hollywood heartthrob is why people on here are fascinated. It just doesn’t seem like something someone like him managed by WME would do when he’s on the verge of possibly becoming Alist after this year (and after a possibly Emmy win). Plus, they’re just beautiful separately and even better together hahahaha

I don’t get why Rocketman is not doing well? There were no new films that opened this week aimed at adults. The Pet movie is for kids. Dark Phoenix was aimed at young people and its flopping. Next week the competition will be more fierce with Late Night opening wide and Shaft aimed at adults and the new MIB film. I don’t think Rocketman will even make $100 million domestic.

Rocketman should have been released in the fall. I think it's box office would have been better and I think the expectations would have been slightly different. It was always going to be compared to Bohemian Rhapsody (and still would have never made as much) but coming out at the start of the summer box office season put unnecessary pressure on it's BO performance.

Okay I was the person who asked about Ibiza earlier, and I just watched it and actually found it pretty endearing as a whole. The lead actress was super quirky and hilarious and RICHARD killed it. I never really found him to be the actor who could do well with awkward comedy, but he was really fantastic in this movie, and my goodness he is able to have chemistry with every single costar which is NOT an easy feat. I hope to see him do more funny and less serious non historical roles because he is really charming for comedy!

An actor’s career status is extremely changeable even without coming out. So not, they’re not cowards for not coming out. If you must call anyone cowardly, save your ire for an actor in, like, the position of Tom Cruise or Robert Downey Jr or someone- someone who has enough money to never work again, or finance his own projects for the rest of his career if he wants. Richard's performance in Bodyguard is really good but there are a lot of reasons why he could miss out: better performances, outside influences (like interviews & bad PR) & what kind of members are voting (age, gender, race etc.)

When articles about the movie are written he's already named in the cast and the Russo Brothers followed him already on social media. How much confirmation do you want? He's already known by most people for Bodyguard where he played a big straight HW hunk. And he played it believable for people. It's not like he's an actor who's just starting out and who noone has ever seen in a straight role (because if the public hasn't seen you in a convincing straight role yet and the only thing they know about you is that you're gay/bi they'd perhaps a bit prejudiced). He's the opposite of that. His image is already established as a guy who played a lot of straight love interests and who's also known for doing action. Not thrilled for the Eternals at all. I understand that it will be a milestone in Richard's career but I like movies with substance. Never been a Marvel fan and I won't watch it just for Richard. Hope that does give him the support and freedom to be in more thought-provoking projects without him having to worry about it potentially flopping though.

This thread is very gloomy. Richard is a brilliant actor - he doesn’t rely on his good looks to get parts so I think if he officially comes out as bi he’ll be fine. I don’t think people really care who’s gay as long as they can’t act. Like other gay/bi artists in other fields no one really cares as long as their art/craft is good. I don’t think younger cinema goers don’t care who’s dating who. If anything I think it would increase their popularity.

If you’re thinking of “leading man”’ in terms of stardom, top billing, opening a movie? Then yeah, he hasn’t yet. But in terms of the *types* of roles he’s more often than not played—hetero love interests and traditionally masculine, action-y, roles—he absolutely has.

Foreign markets are an enormous issue, and even in the West, being accepting of an actor’s sexuality doesn’t necessarily translate to believing an actor in or thinking he’s well-suited to a role. In short, it’s complicated, and he’s not wrong or cowardly to want to protect his career and relationship.

The commotion is born out of fascination, at least for me. Who knew Miss Brandon could ensnare a presumed straight man who has a lot to lose career-wise by having a boyfriend. It came out of nowhere!
