All this astrology talk is giving me flashbacks of a tarot reading I did on B&R two weeks ago. I remember that the one thing that came through is that Brandon had to be validated one way or another if the relationship was going to survive these early stages. When the NYT interview came out, I was like ok Richard just saved this relationship. In a soul level it gave Brandon the assurance that he needed.

Given the nature of their energies, assurance is something that Richard will have to provide B. People here are arguing if the pap pics and the reveal (but actually not reveal) of their releationship was only PR or not. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Why not both at the same time? Richard surely isn't a newbie who doesn't know how to avoid paps. And he surely would have known how to avoid them the second time shortly after they were first papped in LA.. The NYC pap photos where they were walking on the sidewalk in the middle of town were also very clearly staged.

I think Richard and Brandon are a real couple. They don't want to hide completely and only stay in their houses. They also want to spend time together outside. So they probably thought of a way to reveal something of their relationship (so that it's not a big deal when people find them hanging out) but they also decided to not reveal too much. So homophobic people can still think they're just friends while other people who are more accepting don't make a big deal about it anymore. And the NYT article was also clearly a part of that strategy. I think it's no coincidence that they left out that Richard was dating Ellie and that they only named Jenna. That way noone would wonder if there was an overlap between his relationship with Ellie and the start of the relationship with Brandon. So far Richard is playing both sides. Being out enough for people who are LGBT friendly. But still not out enough for other people to think that he's not straight.

But I also think that it just came at a very convenient time that the first pap pics emerged. Marvel was casting for a movie which will be heavily marketed as LGBT breakthrough. And it doesn't matter if Richard's role is straight or gay, We don't know for which roles he auditioned anyway. But an actor that could be seen as a representative of the LGBT community is always good for a movie that wants to be praised for its LGBT inclusiveness. And I also think that Richard became more likable and more well known to the LGBT community because of this relationship. People go to the movies because they find the plot interesting but also because they like a specific actor. So I could also seeing it having helped with Rocketman promo actually. And his relationship also raised his profile in general for the Emmys etc. He gained a lot of social media followers the first day after the first pap pics had come out

Yeah. He doesn't want to be SURPRISED. That's why he does it on his terms by sometimes calling them when he'll be at a specific location. They get their picturer, he gets exposure and they leave him alone after that. The walking pics looked staged and they were papped walking around on a random sidewalk. Not when entering the restaurant, inside the restaurant or when coming out of the restaurant where normally random pap pics would be taken.

Of course there should be more gay actors playing gay roles instead of nearly always straight actors playing gay roles but if he does want to play the straight man, fucking act it! This was a big note for a lot of my peers in acting school. You don’t have to change who you are but you need to be believable in the role you’re playing.
