Trump has hinted at a favourable bilateral agreement with the UK. Obama hinted that he wouldn't do the UK any favours if the blew up the relationship with the EU.
Obama didn't endorse British political candidates, never told the UK what geopolitical trade deal they should make, never said who the UK should put on the negotiating tea and didn't threaten to end an intelligence alliance if the British electorate voted for a party he didn't like.

Old news by now, but I liked Melania's white outfit with navy trim and the summer boater. She obviously inquired about the other ladies' outfits so as to blend well, unlike she who will not be named.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | June 3, 2019 4:48 PM |
I feel like Ivanka’s hair is too casual for this event. She needs to have it swept up or something. Even pinup waves would be better. It’s just not enough for the formality of the occasion.

by Anonymous | reply 37 | June 3, 2019 5:01 PM |
All the fawning over Melania in the previous thread, yikes! She looks fine in clothes (tall and relatively thin) and has the money to buy the best, but other than that .... She was a two-bit titty model who married a vile creature for money and actively supported his birther conspiracy theory. She seems to have no interest in anything except fashion, shopping, and surgically altering her body to conform to trophy wife standards. May she rot in hell with the the rest of the Trump clan.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | June 3, 2019 5:12 PM |
The Queen trolls Trump. I bet she knows he doesn't read. Love it.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | June 3, 2019 5:12 PM |
Oh but it’s ok for Obama to say the UK can go to the back of the line.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | June 3, 2019 5:24 PM |
And wasn’t it funny when Ivanka walked off
by Anonymous | reply 44 | June 3, 2019 5:29 PM |
Agreed, R41. She's got those terrible enormous implants and that permanent standing-in-a-wind-tunnel/human cat face. She knows how to stfu, I'll give her that, but I always LOL at these descriptions of Melania as "classy" and "dignified." She's cheeseball as hell, and pulled so tight in certain shots she's beginning to look alien.
What I want to see Kate in tonight is red or maybe purple, something in that colour family. I suspect she'll be in something pale. I much prefer her in richer, more saturated colours and not pastels/pale beiges/ice blues. Mint green may be the exception but it's still not my favourite.
Is there anywhere the TV-less can watch it live tonight? Any of the news channels doing a Youtube livestream?

Harry had every reason to be standoffish. Trump's crude comments about Diana were more than enough. He also made inappropriate attempts to date her. She felt stalked by him.
This whole thing has actually made me want to stick up for Harry.

Nothing about Melania suggests she would prefer Camilla's moumou dress and comfortable shoes.

Lots of hard work goes into a State Dinner at Buckingham Palace. The Queen usually inspects the table before the guests arrive. Here are some photos.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | June 3, 2019 6:00 PM |
r53 It will be for the household staff an security. That's who it is usually for.
Melania has dressed appropriately for the occassion, neither over nor under dressed. She looks smart and her clothing is well fitting, her hair is well coiffured. She looks classy. Unlike someone else who rarely looks classy and shall remain nameless.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | June 3, 2019 6:03 PM |
R46, right? I just scrolled the pics and Melania is wearing high high stilettos with her toes all mushed into them practically en pointe in all them, tottering across lawns, cobblestones, and slippery tiles. She must be in absolute pain, but she grimaces and bears it, doesn't she? One must look long-limbed and fuckable at all times.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | June 3, 2019 6:03 PM |

Melania’s dress does her no favours. Ivanka’s outfit was horrible. Expectations are so low with these grifters that it’ll be hailed a big success if the trumps manage to avoid projectile vomiting over one of the royals.

No one compares to England when it comes to pageantry.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | June 3, 2019 6:35 PM |
R73 - Well, since you arsk - I give it five years. That's really all the time she has. She has to have another kid, and establish her "brand" of a blend of the Goop and Amal Clooney ("Glooney"! I said it first! Where's the Patent Office?!) and by then she'll be in her early forties and that window of anyone giving fuck all about her will be closing rapidly. So she gets out by then, or she doesn't get out at all, and sticks it out making a fool of herself and her husband and the BRF for the next 40 years, taking as much of the UK taxpayers' money as she can and pretending she really matters. If she really wants to parlay her bullshit into something outside the BRF, she can't wait till she's much older. If they divorce after that, all she'll get is a settlement that will leave her famous and comfortable and that's it.
So if she wants out, she's got five years or less to get out on the terms she wants, i.e., In Demand World Famous Trendsetting Person. After those five years, she's just Fergie 2.0 outside the BRF. In addition to which, the Cambridges by then will have increased substantially in profile and importance. In five years, Britain will have either a 98 year old Sovereign or a 75 year old King and a new Prince and Princess of Wales.
If Meghan has the sense of an ant, she'll get out whilst still under 45.

I'm feeling sympathetic towards Meghan Markle today. Her situation seems to be a classic case of "Be careful of what you wish for young lady, for you will surely get it." All those years spent networking and social climbing and then she snags a prince! OMG! The wedding! The gowns! It's a fairy tale come to life!
But then the cold reality starts to set in and you realize that you're bored out of your mind. You're tired of other people telling you where to go, how to act, and how to dress, plus having to keep quiet about political issues you care about sucks. The kids are cute but your husband is dumb and boring and cheats on you to boot. Who wants to put up with that? If it were a friend of mine in that situation I would support her leaving.
No I don't think she will put up with all that for long - five years max would be my guess.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | June 3, 2019 6:49 PM |
Jesus, Trump's gotten obese. It's really, really noticeable. Melania's tits are hanging to her naval and she has a huge menopausal pooch. It must drive him crazy he can't trade her in.

R88 - Looking at the pics from today I had basically the same thoughts as you. Trump is fat af. Like, even fatter than I thought he was. And yes, Melania is looking decidedly thick around the middle and generally menopausal. She must be aware she's gonna be out on her ass the second it becomes politically feasible for him to hook up with his next 30 y.o. Eastern European.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | June 3, 2019 6:59 PM |
I bet Cheetolini rages at Melania when he sees photos of her and her stomach pooch is prominent. I doubt she is exempt from his ugly insults.

Melania wearing a white, strapless dress tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | June 3, 2019 7:03 PM |
R97-I generally have to avoid Trump news because it sends my blood pressure sky rocketing, so I hadn't seen him in awhile. I was shocked at how much he's ballooned. I mean, holy fuck-walking heart attack. Charles looks positively svelte next to him. I was similarly surprised with how awful Melania looks. Her face is tighter than a snare drum, and the body is lumpy as hell. Take a page out of Camilla's handbook and learn to dress to conceal an older woman's bulge.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | June 3, 2019 7:03 PM |
A wink is Camilla's unconscious cry for help! LOL.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | June 3, 2019 7:04 PM |
R97 - I would guess that Melania is counting the days to the time she's out on her ass, with a nice divorce settlement, doesn't have to pretend even to like him, let alone love him, and go to all these boring a.f. foreign affairs things, and maybe pay attention that youngest kid, Barron, who I suspect would like to murder his father and has multiple personality issues. Her sigh of relief when he marries the next 30 year old will be heard on Jupiter.

This “she’s nasty” comment is a PR dream come true for MM and her future US based/humanitarian of the world persona.
She’ll 100% make TTC, even if she is fluffier than she’d like to be. Being camera ready that quickly from today will encourage it to be played up that her absence today was “feminist MM wasn’t going to entertain pig DT.” Rather than just maternity/not necessary for her to attend.
I know most disagree but I fully expect she and Harry to be US based “influencers” within 5 years. As much as it shouldn’t, getting nearly 3 million likes on a photo matters and with what they can make by putting #ad on their posts, they’ll live plenty fat and get the fun celebrity life. Not the boring stuff the BRF goes around doing.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | June 3, 2019 7:16 PM |

Oh dear, r116 you are going to be very surprised, I think. Meghan has barely over 40% popularity rate in the U.S. her magazines don't sell, people are not interested. She and Harry are looked upon as a joke. Her "followers" are bought. She was caught out doing this on her old social media accounts. Hollywood is not interested. Not at her age. The only support she has is from the low rent crowd and hasbeens. That doesn't equate into any influencing at all.

Harry looked like a sulky bitch in the footage I saw of him today. Shades of Ted Cruz sucking up to Cheetolini after he called Cruz's wife ugly. Not as egregious, but Haz didn't challenge The Obese Orange to a duel and has therefore failed to defend his lady's honour.
Thank you R142. 18 inches sounds like a lot to me, but it could be because my general eating stance is 'hunched over a large bowl, scooping cheesy mac into my face with my hands.'

Melania is a beautiful lady who conducts herself with dignity. She is also a kind person. Have seen her with kids, and the affection is genuine. Try not to find her guilty by association with Dump. And she looks perfect, except for those slutty shoes. I’m puzzled about the protruding tummy, though, because I’ve seen it before. Can’t she wear a girdle or something? Maybe it’s bloat.

20:38 What will everyone be eating?
On the menu, all translated from French, is steamed fillet of halibut to start, complemented by a watercress mousse, asparagus spears and a chervil sauce.
The main course is new season Windsor lamb with herb stuffing, spring vegetables and a port sauce.
Strawberry sable and lemon verbena cream is listed for dessert, and the guests will be offered a selection of assorted fresh fruits to finish up, as well as coffee and petit fours.

Also love the naffness of the menus being in French. Yes, yes, I know the historical reasons. Still enjoy the "it's 1988 AND THIS IS FANCY" vibe it gives off tho.
Thanks R156, will have a gander now.

The monarchy serves at the pleasure of Parliament. If Parliament invites scum (politics making strange bedfellows and all that), then you fucking show up. I lean very left a la Markle, but she chose to marry into the BRF. She doesn't get the luxury of her values at the considerable expense of the luxurious privilege she is afforded. Harry could barely conceal his disgust today, which makes him a prat considering his role. I fucking hate Trump and his family with the heat of a thousand burning suns; but to be fair Cheeetoh did not call Meghan nasty, he called her remarks toward him as her behaving nasty toward him. The Hazbean "job" is to support and represent the monarch who may I add is always superbly gracious to her guests. The Sussexes are little better than Trump with the toddler conduct.

The world is not what it was when Prince Michael was born R237.
30 years ago, people faded away if they weren’t consistently front page. Even those who’d been at the peak, winning Oscars, etc. We aren’t in that world now.
Lisa Rinna, Jessica Simpson, Jessica Alba, are all examples of people no one, minus a few die hard fans, should recognize the name of based on historical celebrity data. Wives like Hilaria Baldwin were nothing more than”so and so’s wife,” unless they were also in the business.
All those people have decent fan bases and significant amounts of ad revenue because of the social media world.
It doesn’t matter that Archie and MM are far down the line any more than it matters that Gigi Hadid would probably never have made it as a model 20 years ago (even with family money). What does matter is the reality of today. The reality of today is that she is amassing a brand. AOC tweeting about her today, many are behind the idea of her being the biracial, feminist queen ready to take on the world. She is exactly what wins right now. You may hate it but it’s true.
The vapid social media mass care as much about the Cambridge kids “actually being in line,” as much as they care about the hundreds of nameless runway models with better body/face than Kaia Gerber (but she’s Cindy’s daughter).
The rules aren’t the same as they were.

I have to disagree about Kate having botox, I don’t see the telltale signs and I’m usually pretty good at spotting these things. Worked for plastic surgery practices mainly in LA while studying for my psych DNP. Kate’s eyebrows are higher in recent years, I’d say for past couple of years but really noticeable now. However it’s classic side effects of her ptosis (lazy eyes) particularly her left eye. It’s more apparent when she’s tired or not wearing makeup.
What happens is when people with slight ptosis get older, starting in their 30s, the eyelids get lower due to the ptosis. So they naturally compensate by raising their eyebrows. Over time the eyebrow become “fixed” in higher than usual position. Only ptosis repair will rejuvenate the eyelids and letting eyebrows come back down to original position.
I don’t see that Kate’s had fillers either, though she could use a conserve amount, if she wants to go this route, using micro droplet approach, 1cc for the whole face which is very conservative use of fillers.

That's just it, though, hasn't amassed an organic following, r252. She has (some) paid-for followers and is really only known to most because of her association to the BRF. I agree that those folks that you mentioned would not have garnered attention in the past. However, there is something about each of them that appeals to a certain crowd. Meghan has this to a smaller extent, but it will wither away when she leaves the BRF. She'll be able to grab attention for a while with projects here or there, but it will never be what she dreams. Plus, she treats people like shit AND she doesn't pull in the money that these other people do. That's a recipe for alienating yourself with those who can promote you. That's how Fergie has managed to remain around. She a mess, but she's a likable mess.

I agree and disagree R252. I agree with your general take on things, but not that Hazbean is the clear "winner" of whatever competition may or may not be going on with the Cambridges. Neither of these couples is famous the way Kim and Kanye are, for example. Or Random Multi Millionaire Youtube star (James Charles, for another example).
Hazbean has it when it comes to the woke crowd (of which i am probably a member) but even there it's not quite organic. It's the mainstream media, the NYT etc talking about MM and Haz. They don't feel like legit stars when it comes to the young 'uns. Neither do Will and Kate, mind you. I don't foresee any security issues when 10k teens show up at some random Hazbean or Willkat (oh dear, I'm sorry) event in the burbs.
If Meg and Harry were to leave the RF (which I would put money on them not doing, fwiw), I do think they could make quite a lot of money. Less if it was Meg alone, but she could still make bank off her time in the BRF. It would just be bank from interviews with Oprah cringe-y Ted Talks about how her feminism wouldn't allow her to stay in the marriage or some shit. It would be the 35+ crowd, not the kids, who would be interested.

So I don't think Kate has had any facial work done, of any kind. But you know? I kind of wish she would. As the other poster says, just a small amount of filler or a teeny little poke of Botox would help. She's at the age where minor interventions like that can make quite a massive difference. I'm sure the tabloids would have a fucking field day if she actually did any of that, though.
by Anonymous | reply 265 | June 3, 2019 9:33 PM |
Ah, Kate is wearing publicly for the first time the blue sash of the Dame Grand Cross of the Victorian Order, with the family orders pinned to it. I like the dress - she's tall and slim enough to wear it without it adding too much flesh, but I'm bemused at all the white the ladies are wearing. Have I missed the significance of this? I also note that Kate is wearing some large sapphire centred and diamond earrings to pick up the royal blue of the sash. Credit where due, she is looking very regal these days.

I'm going to laugh if there's no post on the Sussex IG about today. You know Meghan is back at FrogCott/random Cotswolds bolthole manically reading every word spoken about her today, and LOOOOVING the "brave feminist stands up brute Trump we stan!!!" commentary. I can just see her thinking it's some Big and Important Statement not to post about this. 'kinell

R267 - Someone speculated upthread that it's a red, white and blue theme. Sapphires on Kate, rubies on HM and white dresses. Definitely seems plausible. I have to say I am fucking bored with the white/pale dresses at these events, though.

R252 - The Cambridges are amassing a brand, too, they just aren't trumpeting it. It's called the The Long Game Goes To Us brand. It doesn't matter what the Sussexes "amass" - they are going to fade and become irrelevant. Brands don't last that long these days - unless the brand is encoded in the DNA of who gets to be King and Queen one day.
In this game, it's the only brand that matters. Harry and Meghan are dull, silly, and overestimate the interest they'll generate outside the BRF. You really think in 20 years, when William and Kate are on the way to their coronation, that anyone will remember or care about the Sussex "brand"?
I doubt it. History is on the side of the Cambridges.

R271-I dunno. I'm not a Hazbean fan, by any stretch, but I wouldn't count Tungsten out. She's made it this far against every imaginable odd, and she does have a fiercely (and bizarrely) devoted fan base. It will be entertaining to see where she ends up.
by Anonymous | reply 273 | June 3, 2019 9:41 PM |
R224 - They've done it for the Saudis and other far worse fucks. The government makes the decision: the BRF carries it out. That's what they're for. If Downing Street told them Jack the Ripper and Hermann Goering and Pol Pot were coming for a state visit, they'd do the same thing.
It's the downside of an otherwise massively privileged existence.

R272 - Yes, of course she did. It's just going to reverberate through the galaxy.
She's on maternity leave; no one gave a fuck whether she attended the banquet or not and it's a safe bet that she wasn't invited so she had no decision to make. Everyone will forget about it by next week when the Trooping the Colour occurs.

R275 - Yes, it's quite a coup for Kate sitting next to one of Meghan's former marks that MM allegedly fucked for some sort of advantage or another. I'd be surprised if Kate doesn't know about the rumours. Perhaps she'll playfully lead him on to drop something she can pass on to Megsy.
Kate: "Why, I believe you know my sister-in-law, don't you?"
PM: "Indeed I do. Er, did. Biblically speaking - how is she?"
Kate, merrily: "Oh, out there brand-building!"
PM: "Do give her my regards, will you, and tell her I remember her most fondly?"
Kate, sweetly: "I certainly will do that."
Next morning:
Kate: "Hi, Meghan, Kate here. Guess who I sat next to at the state banquet last night? Oh, you'll never guess. Oh, you saw the photos? Well, such a gentleman - he asked me to pass on his warm regards and to tell you he remembers your, that is, you, most fondly."
Meghan: "I think I hear the baby crying."

Meghan, scrolling through the DM banquet photos, when she hits Kate's pix:
[Incensed, whispers to herself]: FUCK.
Harry: Looking at the pictures of that bastard's banquet? Fuck him. Fuck the lot.
Somehow I imagine these two using a ton of profanity together.
Even if the rumors are untrue, it's still funny to see Kate escorted by the subject of them.
by Anonymous | reply 285 | June 3, 2019 10:03 PM |
Yes r271, I do think the worldwide public could care more about the Sussex brand and Archie in 20 years. Cambridge’s will make it into the history books, have dinners with world leaders, etc. etc. - but this is a world where most people could name more members of the Kardashian family than Oscar winners from a few months ago.
We are not in a time where seniority or “importance of the work” takes the top spot. We are in the time where news articles are written as teenagers sending texts to each other, a time where a giant fake ass “breaks the internet.”
You can’t call it based on traditional rules or what should be.
by Anonymous | reply 286 | June 3, 2019 10:03 PM |
I do find these very unlikely little vignettes in which Meghan always comes off worse and the author enjoys her imaginary unhappiness a bit obsessive. There's speculation and bitching, and then there's writing small scenes in which a person delights in imagining the mundane details of another's sadness.

by Anonymous | reply 292 | June 3, 2019 10:13 PM |
R271 - You really don't get it. In this game, who the public loves means absolutely nothing, and it is mostly the non-UK public that loves the Sussexes. The Cambridge kids will increasingly be sucking the air out of the room, the Queen will be dead, Charles will be King, and the public (that is the UK public) will be looking over his shoulder at William and Kate. Harry and Meghan are staggeringly uninteresting people. The only thing remarkable about him is the circumstances of his birth, and the only interesting thing about her is that she hooked him.
You really think the "public" is going to care about the "brand" of two pushing-60 non-entities and their kids? The way they now care about Prince Andrew and his kids?! Please.
Even Diana couldn't make a go of it outside the Golden Circle.
No one is going to give a flying fuck about Meghan Harry and Archie in 20 years. No one.

by Anonymous | reply 298 | June 3, 2019 10:19 PM |
R286 - The worldwide public doesn't support the British royal family's lifestyle. And the worldwide public will have plenty of other fish to fry between now and then. Harry and Meghan are transparent and boring and if we know anything about the public, it's how fickle they are.
Or Meghan would be in first place in the polls now instead of behind William and Kate and the Queen and Harry.
Hereditary monarchies aren't popularity polls. The Big Money is also going to William and Kate. Just the way the grand flat in Kensington Palace and the country home in Norfolk did whilst Meghan got FrogCott and a couple of rooms in BP and no title for her kids.
If Charles by any chance dies before the Queen, Meghan and Harry will be booted so far to the curb by William they won't know what hit them.
Then they can head to LaCa with the rest of the shallow sleaze-bags.

by Anonymous | reply 303 | June 3, 2019 10:36 PM |
The Sussexes are unlikely to found it, but they may adapt to it. The Kardashian clan isn't just the younger members. Kris Jenner nurtured and supported the building of that empire (and I say that have never watched a show of seen a tweet from any of them).

Melania's earlier day outfit was too tight, emphasized the imbalance of the overly-large breast implants; the hat was ridiculously large; and her heels were too high, a la fuck me shoes. It also was a bad version of a Diana dress. No matter what Melania spends on her clothes, she always looks like the cheap whore that she is.
The evening dress also highlights her mismatched breast implants, with one sagging more than the other; emphasizes her lack of waist; and the gloves make her look as though she is prepared to wash the dishes after the banquet.

The Sussex brand is based solely on cult of personality which holds a perishable sell-by-date in the long run. I look at Madonna and I can't think of a more hard scrabble celebrity who has held on to relevance longer than most and even she is fading and becoming a caricature of herself.
The Cambridges have the mantle of an office (which is William's present and future titles) that elevates them above and beyond the vagaries of trends and passing fancies. The stature of their position to the throne is what will carry them well into the future come what may.

Let’s say the HazBean marriage goes the distance. Does she get any of these orders and honors before the Queen dies? ie Kate and Camilla got this Dame of the Grand Order on their 8th wedding anniversaries. Is the Queen really going to make it that long for MM? Or will she only earn honors and orders from Charles (or I’m sure worse for her - William)
Because some have the monarch on them, right? What are the chances (if she follows Kate’s timeline) for MM to get any from the Queen?

Very much doubt it. I've said it before on the Tendrils thread and I will say it again... IF (big if) the Hazbeans go the distance, it will be from Charles she gets any meritorious awards The Queen won't even let her have access to the Royal Collection let alone something permanent to flaunt. Those orders are in recognition for support of the monarch and firm (not personal aggrandizement) and are dispensed only by favoritism from the monarch; and NOT who seems to be the hardest working in the pages of the press.

by Anonymous | reply 353 | June 4, 2019 12:10 AM |
R353 - Charles already sided with the Queen against the Sussexes' (read: Meghan's) request to set up their own court and an independent PR office. Charles is also a self-entitled twat and I'd bet what he really remembers about Diana is how she made his life hell from the moment the engagment ring was on her finger. He isn't the kind of guy who reproaches himself for any sins except against the environment. If he thinks Meghan is Bad for the Monarchy, he won't hesitate to say NO. It's in connection with his younger son that he'll feel caughte between a rock and a hard place. But Charles will side with the monarchy in the end: he knows perfectly well that dynnasitc considerations come first.
And if, as noted above, Charles is unexpectedly raptured before HM, leaving the Cambridges suddenly teetering on the edge of Majestyhood - Meghan Markle will find out how badly she played her cards. Oh, Harry will get another trust fund from Papa, he'll be bit better off, but nothing like what William will come into.
I would place a substantial wager that in the event Charles were to die before the Queen, Meghan would drag Harry out of the BRF within 12 months. She'd know the gig was up.

Let me help you hens to it, "Get a sense of humor!" "It's gossip!" "Sunshine Sachs!" You're veering into blatant madness when you wish evil on a newborn. Get help.
On topic: Kate looks alright but she needs to dress her age and status. Ruffles...at her age. Really? She plays it way too safe with her clothing choices and this is the time to shine.
But, looking at how the Americans are dressed, it would have been a wasted effort.
Regarding Kate's face, it is different but its likely one of those freeze serums. They put a tad too much (along with the blush) but she looks nice.

Still photos of the royal jewels don't do them justice. Seeing the Queen's sparkling ruby and diamond necklace and tiara live as she spoke was amazing.
Harry's petulant behavior was a top headline of the day. What a spoiled, entitled, virtue-signaling brat. Sadly, I've lost faith that the Queen or Charles will do anything about it. He is family, after all.

The Duchess of Cambridge's dress was lovely. Catherine looked eminently regal.

Lord forgive me but seeing May's floppy pale skin makes me gag.
The hideous woman needs to cover up as much skin as she can. I nearly vomit everytime she shows those ugly legs of hers and now she insists on showing bare arms and chest as well!?. Yuck.
Her face makes me reconsiders my stance on the burka.

Kate looked lovely, but I was underwhelmed. I wanted to be dazzled, dammit, and this didn't quite rise to the occasion. Very nice, but in the end forgettable. And I was so hoping for a new tiara. Sigh.

Mr. Mnuchin doesn't find it boring. More importantly, wonder if they had a chance to talk about their sparkly acquaintance in common?
by Anonymous | reply 376 | June 4, 2019 2:02 AM |
In 20 years, and quite possibly in 10, William will be on the freaking money. THAT'S status.
I think the poster who discussed Meghan's narrow window for leaving the BRF and establishing her own thing was right. A 60 year old Meghan won't be marketable to anybody. Even a 50 year old Meghan would have a tough go of things. She needs to pop out that second insurance policy and head for the Hollywood Hills pronto. Kardashian culture is youth-obsessed: Nobody would ever have cared about Kris Jenner without her pack of nubile daughters. If that's Meghan's model, she better hope she has girl twins the second time around.
by Anonymous | reply 377 | June 4, 2019 2:03 AM |
What's the goss being alluded to upthread about Kate being seated next to Mnuchin and it being "delicious"? Spill, bitches! I even googled it and couldn't find anything.
As for you R256, I have to say there is absolutely nothing more tiresome (and I live in a windowless room that I never leave with only a rusty internet connection for company) than 'but what about the CHILDREEEEEN'-ing a gossip thread. And although I dislike Meghan I'm not one of the posters talking about Sunshine Sachs (in fact I'm unsure if this is an actual PR firm that exists irl or another brown velvet lady) or Hazbean drug habits - because I don't think they have them. I do, however, feel the need to reassure you that no one posting here has wished harm on a baby. Untwist your knickers.
by Anonymous | reply 378 | June 4, 2019 2:04 AM |
Agreed, R378. The only thing I've seen wished for Archie here is that the poor lad end up with at least one decent nanny.
by Anonymous | reply 379 | June 4, 2019 2:07 AM |
Everything about this evening was somewhat underwhelming as State Banquet's go, except for the rubies darling. Kate's dress wasn't bad per se but nobody stood out. You either had the atrocity of May's frock, the prom dress from Tiffani, and the dress reserved for gingham on Ivanka. The evening gown attire across the board was pretty ho hum but Kate was by far the best dressed.
by Anonymous | reply 380 | June 4, 2019 2:07 AM |
Kate needs a total makeover. Everything. Fashion, hair, makeup.
by Anonymous | reply 381 | June 4, 2019 2:08 AM |
R374, I was also hoping for a bigger look and a different tiara/necklace for Kate. She looked beautiful, as always, but she would dazzle even more given the right stylist.
I know some here don't like posts about Celebitchy, but I read there for fun and the best part today for me was two women arguing over which one of them hates Trump more. I hate Trump the mostest. No, I am better than you because I hate him more mostest, and what do I have to do to prove it to you. It's surreal.
by Anonymous | reply 382 | June 4, 2019 2:08 AM |
Agreed R374. Maybe it was on purpose and their all saving the most fabulous jewels, gowns and hairstyles for a state visit from someone they actually like?
R375 - Fuck. That actually looks like he got it off the rack. I bet he thinks that stubble makes his chinlessness less evident. Forget William - what if Rose Hanbury banged one of the Trump boys? The poor child would be so chinless it would just be born without a lower jaw.
To the poster posting Charlene - whilst I agree with you that I would enjoy seeing some new and more daring looks on Kate, Charlene doesn't really do it for me. Fashion-wise or looks-wise. She's not ugly but those uber wide shoulders are more of a flaw than Kate's long torso or Meghan's squatness, imo.
by Anonymous | reply 383 | June 4, 2019 2:10 AM |
Kate should look to Princess Charlene for inspiration.
by Anonymous | reply 384 | June 4, 2019 2:12 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 386 | June 4, 2019 2:17 AM |
Kate doesn't have the broad swimmers shoulders Charlene sports. Meghan on the other hand does have linebacker wide shoulders and would do well to follow some of the tips from Charlene, as long as it isn't anything which requires height.
by Anonymous | reply 387 | June 4, 2019 2:17 AM |
You’d crucify Kate if she wore a strapless gown & you’d say it was age-inappropriate too.
by Anonymous | reply 388 | June 4, 2019 2:19 AM |
Sorry, R385, for the Celebitchy gossip. To make it up to you, I believe there was a CDAN blind that Meghan and Mnuchin were intimate. I will try to find it for you. Of course, it's rumor and innuendo, but still the fact that Kate was seated next to him was shady given the rumor and innuendo.

by Anonymous | reply 390 | June 4, 2019 2:22 AM |
If the job of the BRF is to represent the peoples of the British isles and what remains of the empire, the anything more extravagant than this muted state visit would have been a misstep. The UK faces its toughest political challenge since WW2. It needs allies. The government promised the Americans a state visit so they must deliver on that promise. While he enjoys vocal support in some quarters, the majority of the British public do not like the current American president. In an age of austerity, an extremely lavish display would do more harm than good. This is a happy medium IMO. It was opulent without being ostentatious.

After today it is clear why Harry has not influenced his wife to conform to the norms of the family business. He acted like a sulky child himself. They are utterly unsuitable. Let them support themselves or let Charles do it but they both need to be cut loose. After all that has gone on for him to act that way was simply more of their brand building. Let them get on with it full time as private citizens.
Who still thinks she will be at Trooping? I am going with no.

Thanks to whomever posted all the pics of Charlene of Monaco. She does wear a lot of great clothes and she wears them well. There's probably a big difference, though, between representing Monaco and representing the UK
Also, Kate doesn't seem to be into fashion or style. She's more the rich, sporty, sportswear conservative type. I don't think we can ever expect her to be a style icon. I think she looked fine on this night, even with the ruffles. I guess a case could be made that ruffles are on trend right now, but on her they do just look princessy and not fashion forward.

Ivanka also looks acquainted with a hairbrush.
Lucky for her she was ghosted by Me-Gain. All about the brand building. Funny how Chelsea CLINTON valued and maintained their relationship. MeMe is a mean girl and does not understand that the public sees right through her. The poor UK taxpayers, the TRUE victims.

by Anonymous | reply 458 | June 4, 2019 11:33 AM |
I know she's on maternity leave for six months, but she's making things a lot worse by hiding out 24/7. She couldn't even show up to this fucking State banquet? And behaved like a lady in spite of the fact that the guest of honor made a typically stupid, misguided remark about her? THAT is what she SHOULD have done; it would have put him in his place and shut everyone's mouth right up, but she doesn't have that kind of insight because, honey, she's no lady. AND I have honestly NEVER seen somebody fuck EVERYTHING up so badly. Everything she does is wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 459 | June 4, 2019 11:35 AM |
The focus yesterday was on D Day and representing the monarchy. Harry has made his disdain for the older generation clear in poorly chosen remarks, he continued to sulkily express his contempt for the Firm and its role yesterday. One can only imagine that he has been spoken to and THIS behavior was the response?
Andrew was the spare and behaved appropriately. They are trained for this all their lives. Harry and his resentment should fuck off. Right off the taxpayer dime, in fact.
They need to be cut loose. Trying to bring him back in the fold recently has not had the desired effect. More and more I do believe that the Rose story was planted by MeMe and her PR as deflection. Is it true that Rose and her husband were said to attend the dinner last night? PR is powerful, this is who Harry is and always has been. William lost his mother as well, but still managed to grow up.

by Anonymous | reply 465 | June 4, 2019 11:46 AM |
I am fairly confident that her presence was not welcome, R459.
Trade considerations are too important to allow such a loose cannon to be present. After the Investature they would have to be clinically insane to give her that sort of platform during a state visit.
She sent dickless wonder in her place to act out though. Surely Lord Doom took note. How is Harry going to maintain that expense wife and his polo ponies on his own income?
GEORGE, CHARLOTTE AND LOUIS manage to behave and they are children, unlike Duch and Dim who are petulant children in adult bodies. Her cruelty to a toddler before she even had a ring on it shows the absolute contempt she has for the BRF as individuals and for the institution. It is how she has treated everyone in her life, after all, except Doria. Her time may still come.
Charles looks quite unwell. If William becomes king sooner rather than later, I hope he protects the institution and his family from the antics of the brand builders.

The whole “nasty” thing is mostly the fault of the reporter who kept agitating on the subject of Meghan. Really not a serious question to be asking any President. One can excuse both her pre-marriage remarks and Trump’s sly use of the word “nasty.” The reporter was a prick to stir the pot that way on the eve of a state visit. Frivolous.
Hey, but good fodder for us here in the peanut gallery!

The BRF are doing the bare minimum for this visit. The Americans have demanded it as a condition of doing a deal. The government has agreed and the BRF are basically being fuck up with the ass with a broom. It's not a happy occasion. This is not the state function for a debut. That doesn't serve Meghan or the BRF. The Cambridges and the Sussexes are the most popular royals in the US and they have limited their contact with the Trumps. It would have been a coup for Ivanka or Donald to be photographed with William or Kate. The BRF have managed to limit their contact.

R473 - Actually, Harry didn't boycott anything. He attended the luncheon for the Trumps earlier in the day and accompanied them as the Queen showed them the BP art collection (which by the way is open to the public, or used to be, at certain times). Meghan wasn't invited - she's on maternity leave and I don't doubt was left off the guest list deliberately. And you will note that when the Dutch royals came to visit, Meghan and Harry were suddenly sent off on a fast three-day, previously unannounced trip to Morocco "at the government's request". Harry is the sixth in line. This banquet was kept to top tier royals only to minimise the pomp.
The Queen has shaken hands with worse than Trump, and she does what the governnment tells her to when a majjor economic and military ally comes to visiit. She's shaken hands and put out the good silver and plate for worse than Trump in her day. I didn't notice protesters and ballons when the Saudi royals came to visit. After all, they're only starving a few million kids to death in Yemen these last few years, and they carry out about 200 executions each year - by the sword.
Hasn't stopped Charles from becoming quite matey with a couple of members of the Saudi royal family, although these days he's quieter about it. You have to factor in £60bn in arms sales to the Kingdom.
As for why Trump's kids were there when they have no connection to the US government - well, none of the Queen's kids have any connection to the UK government, either (at least, they aren't supposed to, although Charles has attempted to break that rule).
Forget it Jake: it's Chinatown.
This is the way the thing works. Arms deals and trade deals rule, and contitutional monarchs do whatever the government tells them to. Credit where due: the BRF handled this with grace.
The really notable absence wasn't Harry, but William. Kate took one for the team last night.

You my want to read up on working royals. The PoW, Andrew, Anne, The Wessexes, The Cambridges and the Sussexes all technically work for the government in some measure. Those in the line of succession can be called upon to act on behalf of the queen from time to time. That means they are connected to the government (some full-time, some part-time).

Him acting sulky and pulling faces, in light of the trade importance and in light of all that has gone on in the past year, is unacceptable. His insulting comments re: the greatest generation and behavior at an event literally celebrating D Day is beyond the pale.
His resentment of his family and wish to both take advantage of his privilege whilst seeming superior and brand building is not working out well. The taxpayers need to put their foot down. The Windsors are giving Harry and Meghan plenty of rope to hang themselves with. Thousand-year-old institutions excel at playing the long game. People who try to 'shake things up' inevitably end up crushed under the wheels of all that history. See also: Duke of Windsor and Diana, Princess of Wales.
The more Harry and Meghan try to build their own separate 'woke' brand, the more they are going to alienate the British public. Which they might not care about, as they see themselves making a splash on the world stage. But without the backing of the BRF and the glow of titles, estates, and honors, what are they? A barely literate playboy and an aging grifter actress. Not very Instagrammable.

by Anonymous | reply 563 | June 4, 2019 2:38 PM |
I'm not especially besotted by Kate's ruffles either, but what that dress certainly achieves is to highlight the sash. It trumpets her status, both as William's wife and as a favourite of the Queen. Anything less fitted in the bodice or fuller in the hips would spoil the line of the sash. You talk about Meghan's branding but nobody has mentioned this.
If she wanted to be a style icon, she has all of Diana's photographs (and presumably some of Diana's advisers, if she wanted them) to inspire her; she doesn't need Charlene. Most of Diana's looks from the 90s would still fly very well now. But she's a favourite of the Queen because she DOESN'T go to lengths to draw attention to herself. She teams with William instead of trying to outshine him, she always dresses appropriately for the occasion and she always looks well groomed. If anything, her look says, "A queen doesn't need to draw attention to herself; it just comes."

R487 - I did not see a single photo of William anywhere. If he was there, I stand corrected, but if so, his image somehow eluded me. I do see also that Sophie Wessex was there - the work horses of the family.
R576 is correct - Kate's job is not to astound, but to complement and look correct. And as with many other gowns she wears, when you see the video as opposed to the still photos, you get quite another impression as the dress moves - the quality of the materials and the soft movement gets lost in still photos. I found this to be true of some gowns of Diana's that I hadn't cared for until I saw how the dress moved on her in videos.
Kate's understanding of how NOT to outshine her husband is a lesson Meghan will never learn, despite the fact that everything she has and any interest in her stems from him.

R499 - They are not connected to the government in any way EXCEPT at the government's command. They are not members of the government any more than the Trump kids are members of the Trump Administration. That's the whole point of separating the Head of Government from the Head of State. Then the Queen sits down with advisors to plan it out, and invites whichever members of her family she thinks are appropriate. The government then approves the guest list.
It works both ways. No one really believes the government suddenly desperately needed the sixth in line and his very pregnant wife in Morocco for three days in February, either. The trip was rather baldly hastily put together to keep Meghan from accepting an invitation to the Oscars, about which rumours had been swirling for some time. The BRF probably asked the government to put in the request and booted her arse out of way on the precise weekend the Oscars took place.

When Diana was growing her hair out, she used combs to keep the sides off her face. I didn't like this hairstyle.

I once attended a talk by Diana’s onetime hairdresser, whose name I can’t recall. Very nice gentleman. Anyway he talked about that longer style, and how Charles walked in one day and cracked to Diana, “I say, you look like Vera Lynn.”

The Queen's Burmese Ruby Tiara is to guard from illness and evil. An appropriate choice in Trump's presence.

Oh and the Vera Lynn comment sounded more affectionate than not. It’s actually kind of funny.

Did Charles The Red start drinking BEFORE the state dinner?

Diana looked fantastic with short hair. It highlighted her huge eyes and distinctive profile. She was never as pretty with long hair, as her childhood pictures attest.

A huge glob of bird shit has apparently attached itself to Ivanka's head.

Both Tiffany and Ivanka would benefit from doing something with all that lank Barbie doll hair. The parted in the middle, pin-straight look only flatters truly beautiful women under the age of 25.

The Trump clan's desperate attempts to emulate the classic, conservative BRF style are hilarious.
