The writers and executive producers of soaps are notorious for hubris, and giving the fans what they don’t want. The adage “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it,” never seems to apply to these people. They are constantly trying and failing to re-invent the wheel. “Y&R” has to get Eileen Davidson back on camera, as well as Christel Khalil. Executive producer Anthony Morina had better make some changes fast, or they’re all going to be out of jobs.

What we are watching is NOT Yand R. It’s pretty bad when the best storyline is Neil’s will reading. The way Cane is smiling over Traci is beyond creepy. Craci is not a good pairing she looks like his mom. 🤮 I hate rat face NUNUAdam. How is this the best they could get? His storyline sucks. I will be happy to see Kevin. The problem with almost all the shows today is that they try to cater to the people who want only the fabulous veterans, but those vets are expensive.

They did themselves no favors with the Rosales family, who were shoved onto the front burner with little to no lead up time.

I don't know how bringing Stafford back was supposed to be a miracle. Y&R has the added problem that it has no fresh stories, at all. Any and everything has been done. Say what you will about Mal, he wasn't perfect, but he at least tried a few new things.

The average viewer for this show is over 80 and living in a nursing home, abandoned by their children. They want some consistency in their lives and memories of happier times past and get that through watching TGN, Nikki, Aunt Jack, etc.

Hollywood Reporter did an article a few years ago. If I am remembering correctly, Y&R had the highest average age viewer at 61. B&B was like 59. GH was 56. Days was 54.

So, just by simple math, the age range of the average Y&R viewer is between 42 and 80.

The women viewers still manage to cream their otherwise sawdust-ridden panties for old Hans when he wears that tight black tee, so he will be around as a romantic lead till the bitter end.

YR needs to pull back on using Victor. EB is pushing 80 and you can see how much he's slowed down in the last year.

Sorry but its an ignorant comment to say they don’t care about the ratings. If they don’t care about the ratings, why do they keep cutting the budget? Ratings = ad revenue = funding for the show. Drop in ad revenue = drop in the budget.

If they don't care about US viewer ratings then they should just show it overnight. People can just DVR or stream it or watch it on demand. They can run cheaper shows in the daytime slots.

If they didn't care about ratings, they wouldn't switch out writing teams every year. Ratings matter because it determines how much they can charge for a 30 second spot. What Sony has done with Y&R and Days is to make the licensing fees so low that the networks will always make money on these shows. I clocked Y&R at 35 minutes of actual content the other day. That is a lot of commercials.

R547 Y&R is the second most watched US soap internationally, I believe. So I think that combined with the fact that it remains number 1 in the US, will save it to the last. I wish CBS, and the other networks, were still run by people like William Paley.
