I think Miles is fine with Connor being out, and supports him, but I don't think anything will change for them as a couple. I think they will continue like they have. Something is clearly holding Miles back from coming out, whether personal or career reasons. Who knows, maybe it's a combination. Either way I just don't see him coming out now. Connor's coming out doesn't magically mean Miles will come out.

I don’t know anything about Miles’ family or personal life, but his sister is pursuing a PhD and she constantly rhapsodizes in her social media posts about how “supportive” Miles is. Could he be paying her tuition? They seem extremely close and were raised by a single parent. If he’s supporting family, I can see why he would want to keep his mouth shut and not jeopardize his financial situation.

If Miles really wants to stay in the closet, he needs to stop dating actors and influencers who constantly publicize all details of their personal life on social media.

I don't think Miles cares, right? I mean, everyone who's even a bit intuitive will know he's gay. I've had strong inklings since Parenthood, so much so that I assumed they'd make it a plot point later on in the show, but they decided to keep him straight. But he's pretty obvious about it on social media.

R114 You could well be right, but whether he's officially out or just unofficially gay (as he is at present) I seriously doubt that it would have much impact on his career either way. He is a very particular kind of actor and he's going to attract equally particular roles (and fans, for that matter). Clearly, everyone he knows in the industry is aware of his sexuality, it's only the instructions of his agent (concerned about their own income, presumably) that have prevented him from making official what is already obvious.

But Miles is now a little bit older & wiser and, most importantly, has a serious relationship with a proudly and newly Out Connor, so maybe his priorities are slowly shifting.

Interesting. Someone claimed Brandon has done much the same thing with Sam Smith. Apparently they unfollowed each other but then Brandon refollowed Smith and liked posts of his into September 2018 (they split around June 2018). I've read that Smith also did a purge of Flynn from his IG, a la Miles. It seems that Brandon retained more traces of Miles on his account than of Sam, but that may be a fanbase thing (Smith's are probably way more rabid than Miles' - and of course, Miles' camp denied the relationship with Brandon).

It wouldn't surprise me if Brandon ended both relationships and professed that he wanted to remain friends/on good terms, hence the continued likes.

I've been thinking about that anecdote where Miles was cast as the lead in a movie and then demoted to a supporting character. If that movie was "Love, Simon", imagine what that would feel like. A gay man cast to play a gay character gets replaced by a straight (presenting) actor. His confidence probably went through the floor. And the gay community is a den of bitches at the best of times. It's no wonder if he doesn't want any part of public life beyond posing for a few press/fan photos and remaining mostly silent in interviews.

Miles was definitely the more invested one when he was with Brandon... when Brandon did the Kid Victory play in New York he flew in with his mom to see it and a fan who met him after one of the shows said he told her he saw it ten times (this was the fan IG post that said “Brandon you’ve got a good one!” which she later edited out). There’s even a photo of Miles and Brandon together in NY when Brandon was doing the play. It’s not surprising that Miles didn’t take their break-up well.

That was kind of a big question mark. The character was recovering after a suicide attempt at the end of the previous season, and one of the running plots involved him not being able to get an erection. Then all of a sudden, he gets one after wrestling with Ross Butler. And it was REALLY hard to read the intent behind that. I'm honestly not sure if they were trying to point out that he was still capable of it, or that perhaps he'd learned something about himself.

He lashes out at his friend about possibly never getting better plus the revelation his friend had slept with Hannah (girl who’s suicide spurred the show) and gets hard “from the physical contact”.

Further context- Miles’s character is suggested to be bi and it’s just not been explicitly said. His character and the guy friend have several scenes that hint at a possible future romance (including coming to one another’s rescue in a different fight and slow dancing together). The writing for his character is almost as gay as Miles

In season 2, there’s an actual discussion about Alex getting called a fag, on top of lots of moments between him and Zach that people would 100% be saying were romantic or suggestive if they weren’t two dudes (boner scene, slow dancing, joking about Alex giving Zach a handjob, jokes about Alex being Zach’s boyfriend or having a crush on him, plus a storyline that basically parallels Zach’s story with Hannah where Zach is hiding how close he is to Alex and they get into a fight about it).

Of course, Alex/Miles has been part of one of the biggest het love triangles for the show, but there’s no way his character will stay in that love triangle season 3 onward seeing as right after he and Jess get back together she cheats on him.

Also, last year (I think during pride month?) the 13rw Instagram did a story montage or whatever with their lgbt characters (scene of Tony and his bf, Ryan, etc.) and included a scene with Alex (and Zach and Jess). Don’t know how many people noticed but it does make me think the show absolutely considers Alex at least to be bi and just hasn’t had the balls to say it outright

Brandon, on the other hand, can embody layers and layers of complexity. I hope Miles will prove me wrong.

R471 he said he never came out because he was never in. That's all. People are just misinterpreting what he said. He's said before he came out to people when he was a very young teen and he never was in the closet after that. And if you look at things he did publicly even before they said he came out, he's right. But it doesn't really matter, he is out, and he's never acted like he wasn't. Miles on the other hand is a mixed bag who denied his relationship with Brandon but has otherwise not really acted closeted before or after. I don't know if that was just a weird freakout on his or his team's end, or what it was.
