Yuzuru Hanyu and other figure skating talk part 30
by Anonymous | reply 600 | May 14, 2019 3:46 AM |
At R600 from the previous thread: I wasn't pleased.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 6, 2019 3:08 AM |
Aww I think the little baby Yuzu's are cute, with or without pants.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 6, 2019 3:32 AM |
I think he wanted adult Yuzu without the pants.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 6, 2019 3:40 AM |
R3 It's going to have to be an old one since no new ass pics are surfacing lately. Is this better?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 6, 2019 3:40 AM |
You guys are on the wrong track. I think this is what r3 had in mind. Hope you're happy now r3.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 6, 2019 3:44 AM |
R7 You went there, you really went there.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 6, 2019 3:44 AM |
R6 I've actually never seen this one before. I love it, thank you. R7 that's definitely not a good angle.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 6, 2019 4:08 AM |
R7 Evil.
Rion Sumiyoshi skating to The Young Girls of Rochefort for FS.
Ge says we lack the intellect to grasp the depth of Med's Ariana Grande ex.
First on Twitter:
"You need to read a lyrics of the song, watch it musical video, understand an American culture, then you might get what is the program about."
Then on IG (with ironic Britishism):
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 6, 2019 4:10 AM |
How'd Orser lose his huge belly in a short amount of time? Lap band surgery? Diet shakes? Well he looks much healthier now. I hope his abdominal issues (kidney?) have resolved. As a former top athlete, he should know to take better care of himself.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 6, 2019 4:11 AM |
R6 nice comparison pics. We now have clear photographic evidence that Hanyu's đ is easily twice the size of Asada's. It's a wonder how the guy finds non-stretchy pants that'll him nicely.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 6, 2019 4:13 AM |
fit* him nicely
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 6, 2019 4:14 AM |
R10 Jesus Christ. He gets even more unlikable with every tweet.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 6, 2019 4:22 AM |
R60 Jesus, that ass. I want to do things to it that the doctor says will give me a bacterial infection. I might risk it though if Hanyu ever offers.
R10 oh dear. I saw that and thought he was talking about something else. But Ariana Grande? So full of self-regard.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 6, 2019 4:24 AM |
R10 Not that we ever doubted it, but Misha Ge is indeed one insufferable twat.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 6, 2019 4:27 AM |
R10, arenât at least 50% of Medâs ex program starts with her sitting on a chair, holding some props, wearing a bathrob/coat/jacket which she will stripoff midway through the program? Whatâs so deep about this pink latex program from her other ones?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 6, 2019 4:28 AM |
R17 As Misha said, to get it you need to watch the video and then understand an American culture. He didn't say which one though... You need to be more clear Misha! How are we going to reach enlightenment otherwise???!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 6, 2019 4:38 AM |
R17 It's completely unlike the others. She has a ponytail.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 6, 2019 4:50 AM |
I thought women were supposed to have bigger butts in proportion to their size. How come the men all seem to be better endowed in figure skating? Is it the quads? Do quads require more glute muscles?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 6, 2019 4:53 AM |
And Orser's missing belly has been spotted in Ghislain:
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 6, 2019 4:55 AM |
R20 Seiously?Because their weight is higher? Because they have more muscles, bigger hips. Yuzuru's ass is not that big. It is much smaller. Here Asada butt is bigger as well. No way she has such ass
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 6, 2019 10:36 AM |
I wouldn't consider Hanyu's ass big per se either. Not in a way that'll make people point and say, "wow now that ass is hee-yooj". But it certainly is a good size. Just the right one, in fact. Big enough for people to ogle and leer at but not so big that it becomes a joke that defines his physical appearance.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 6, 2019 11:28 AM |
Did I say ogle and leer? I meant appreciate. You know, like how one would an exceptionally and exquisitely sculpted piece of art.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 6, 2019 11:54 AM |
Who is this girl ?? She looks good. If she is Nathan's gf, then he has good taste in girls. I thought his type was hot American blondes
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 6, 2019 1:49 PM |
She looks average to me. But I don't think Nathan is all that either.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 6, 2019 1:51 PM |
She has nice hair.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 6, 2019 1:56 PM |
R25 why do you think he likes blondes? He doesn't strike me as the jock type tbh
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 6, 2019 2:05 PM |
Can I remind all that I still don't speak to him and act like he doesn't exist since he dumped me ?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 6, 2019 2:08 PM |
can we focus on my attempt to increase my passports' collections??
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 6, 2019 2:10 PM |
R29 oh that's brand news to me lol
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 6, 2019 2:13 PM |
R26 In his case, look doesn't matter much. He is Yalie, he has money and some reputation. He can play instruments, do some sports too. And very important thing, he like girls. It's more than enough for him to draw some American beauties right to him, I guess.
R28 From girls pictures he liked on IG. At least, I knew he had no interest in Asian girls.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 6, 2019 2:20 PM |

Fernandez's Flamenco on Ice will have 6 shows in Japan - three in Tokyo and three in Sendai, from May 24 to June 2. This seems to coincide with some FaOI shows.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 6, 2019 5:29 PM |
R33 - R35 Thanks for the laugh.
Some Shoma quotes from a recent appearance (there's more in the IG link):
After a year, I found I am not so fond of alcohol and I turn red immediately after drinking...
I mastered âKnifes Outâ during PyeongChang because I had a lot time doing my games there.
Some may think my ankle is still in pain and I am just pretending itâs fine but I can assure you itâs completely cured.
I tried to do quintuple but itâs very difficult. I did as much rotations as I could but it turned out only 4.5 instead of 5 rotations. It will not be my first priority to master quints. 4S, 4F and 3A-4T are more important. By doing 3A-4T, 4S and 4F became not so difficult to me.
My bath time can be very long when I do my games or watch animations in bathtub. But it will be a quick one when I need to get out ASAP to continue TV games. I sing in my bath. I sing everywhere.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | May 6, 2019 5:53 PM |
Did Fernandez invite Miki to his Japanese shows?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 6, 2019 5:59 PM |
R46 My gifts are best saved for after-show, in venue bathroom, while IG girlfriend pounding on door.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 6, 2019 6:03 PM |
Maybe if Uno goes for a quint he'll finally be able to fully rotate a quad.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 6, 2019 6:11 PM |
R48 LOL
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 6, 2019 6:19 PM |
R43 lol 3(!) shows in Sendai. The "we are just comrades, nothing more *wink*wink" is coming.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | May 6, 2019 6:19 PM |
Does a quint even get you more points? I don't think ISU even consider it. So if you do a quint, you will get the points of a quad. Will someone tell this to Shoma?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 6, 2019 6:59 PM |
Fernandez's show line up is out yet ?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | May 6, 2019 7:30 PM |
R52 I think he's releasing the details on Thursday.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | May 6, 2019 7:33 PM |
Fernandez, the Japanese ambassador to Spain and Antonio Najarro will hold a press conference at the Japanese embassy in Madrid on Thursday.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | May 6, 2019 7:38 PM |
r44 He had lots of time to game at Olys? Just how? It seemed to me like Yuzu barely had time to breathe, training and media before competitions, media media media media between competitions and gala. Lol, yeah, gaming is your life calling if even Olympics won't stop you.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | May 6, 2019 7:57 PM |
Nathan has a lot of time to fuck
Shoma has a lot of time to game
Vincent has a lot of time to write

by Anonymous | reply 58 | May 6, 2019 8:24 PM |
Hey Amber, does Nate have a big dick?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | May 6, 2019 8:26 PM |
R60 I thought it was micro, but USFSA and ISU tell me it's HUUUGE. What do I know, I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | May 6, 2019 8:28 PM |
r43 Those are the exact dates for Makuhari (May 24-26) and Sendai FaOI (May 31-June 2). It must be part of FaOI instead of a separate show. It would be weird if they chose to do it in Sendai instead of Kobe otherwise. Maybe they will have Spanish food and wine stands instead of sit down meals as they initially planned. But it doesnât seem like a very good way to test out the show, relying on FaOI audiences.
R51 Kolyada thinks itâs tiny.
Finally, a new poem from Zhou! âEight pieces of my heart I lost to you.â "Prisoners of circumstance we are."
by Anonymous | reply 62 | May 6, 2019 9:19 PM |
Kolyada thinks itâs tiny.
Who cares what he thinks? He skates like a girl. (still better than fatso Aliev)
by Anonymous | reply 63 | May 6, 2019 9:32 PM |
Don't worry Aliev, this fan supports you and loves your fat ass. Even though you're a disappointing splatter.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | May 6, 2019 9:46 PM |
r62 I'm starting to think Zhou might be a better poet than a skater.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | May 6, 2019 10:51 PM |
R62 Hand-written this time, I see. And he used a drop cap "H"....that's it, it's definitely about Hamada.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | May 6, 2019 10:54 PM |
R65 You must think he's a shit skater.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | May 6, 2019 10:57 PM |
Cannot believe this is newest and hottest ship. Why.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | May 6, 2019 11:27 PM |
r67 Duh.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | May 6, 2019 11:44 PM |
R69 and as such, it needs a ship name. Zhoumada? Hamazhou? Mince?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | May 6, 2019 11:50 PM |
Am I losing my eyesight? In that picture I thought he looked better than Nathan. Ugh.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | May 7, 2019 12:15 AM |
R72 Are you talking about Zhou?
by Anonymous | reply 73 | May 7, 2019 1:06 AM |
"Two sines entangled in the flow of the sea"? I'm a native English speaker and I don't understand...
And he so painstakingly wrote it out on ruled paper. I definitely wrote some cringey stuff as a teenager, but I would NEVER EVER have posted it in public for all the world to see. Shudder.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | May 7, 2019 4:09 AM |
R73 yes and I'm sorry.
R74 that's a good point. But then again...he genuinely thinks his poetry is good. Like his skating. Haha. I mean if you're gonna upload it online why bother handwriting and then taking a picture? Does he think his penmanship is also remarkable? Who am I kidding, of course he does.
Cringy teenagers do stupid stuff. I totally uploaded entries in my "online diary" when it was all the rage back in the day. Now I look back in horror and wonder how on earth I had the courage to do such a thing. But like, everyone was doing it, from teenagers to thirty-something year olds, so maybe it was just a different time.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | May 7, 2019 4:25 AM |
R74 When you graph sines and cosines, they look like waves - I think that's what he's trying to reference.
Someone caught Misha Ge's appearance at the Ice Theatre in NY recently. I think he's skating to Zhou's poetry.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 7, 2019 5:05 AM |
I want to rip that flailing cardigan off.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | May 7, 2019 5:07 AM |
I'm not joking here - he's introduced as "Olympian Ice Artist and Renowned Choreographer, MIsha Ge"
by Anonymous | reply 78 | May 7, 2019 5:07 AM |
That sounds like something Ge would have explicitly written down himself to request that he be announced that way.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | May 7, 2019 5:11 AM |
He's VERY upset they forgot to say "Coach/Choreographer"!!
by Anonymous | reply 80 | May 7, 2019 5:13 AM |
I'd like to see an "artist" with sophisticated musical tastes that don't revolve around whiny white guys and basic pop music. But real artists usually don't bestow that title upon themselves.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | May 7, 2019 5:13 AM |
R79 who else could've come up with that? Only GEnius.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | May 7, 2019 5:21 AM |
R77 Please, not in front of the children.
To be fair, his skating can be quite nice - but he ruins it by choreographing into the skating the melodrama and pretension that are central to his personality. It's a shame, really.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | May 7, 2019 5:21 AM |
R83 lol. I actually liked his Frankenjesus costume and program at Pyeongchang. It suited his melodrama well.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | May 7, 2019 5:55 AM |
This reminds me of someone who said they were on a plane with Yuzu and his mother - and he talked almost non-stop, while she occasionally nodded.
â...if Iâm not convinced about something, I donât feel good and I have to keep talking about it to my mother until I am convinced in some way. Sometimes, I talk about a particular thing for a long time, so it must be tiresome for her to have to listen to me. But because we are family, I can say what I honestly want to say...â
by Anonymous | reply 85 | May 7, 2019 4:52 PM |
Mama H, when I read these accounts of your existence, I weep for the still smoldering embers in your maiden cave, cruelly suppressed in their nubile infancy by the ambitions of others. Please know this - there are those who see you and understand your needs, and await patiently at bus stop #244 on the corner of Yonge and Wilson, every Friday, with carnations and a box of tea, for the opportunity to service your every carnal desire. Dismiss me not as just a wayward knave! Each day I wait without a sign from you is a little death. Your delicate white hands hold in them the power to still my throbbing heart. Do not let me go gentle into the good night, dear sweet lady!
by Anonymous | reply 86 | May 7, 2019 5:39 PM |
R86 There you are! I was looking for you.

by Anonymous | reply 93 | May 8, 2019 1:43 AM |
R93 Hot? I wouldn't go that far.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | May 8, 2019 1:59 AM |
He's handsome. Nice eyebrows and hair.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | May 8, 2019 2:15 AM |
R96 wtf this is confusing my brain
by Anonymous | reply 97 | May 8, 2019 2:27 AM |
Wait, just realized they swapped the whole forehead+hair, that's why it looks so weird to me lmao
by Anonymous | reply 98 | May 8, 2019 2:36 AM |
For those who think Nathan is hot... canât argue with personal opinion. But his popularity will never reach the anime proportions of Hanyu and his oddly quirky and Poohish personality. When Hanyu retires, FS will go back to an abyss in the US, much like now. This DL site will likely slow down and die out like the other generic skating site. I challenge you to create a nathan Chen link and see how many pages it will go.
Nathan is talented to be sure, but will never be a Hanyu.
On a light note... mama Hanyu seems to have options.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | May 8, 2019 2:51 AM |
Nathan needs a weakness to be more interesting, like crying, if a team mate tells him that he will soon end his career. He's too normal, just like his costumes and programs.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | May 8, 2019 3:18 AM |
R100 He's a lying whore. Is that interesting enough?
by Anonymous | reply 101 | May 8, 2019 3:19 AM |
Ah, I see now why Zhou and Ge are so well talked about! Their weakness for fame makes them interesting!
by Anonymous | reply 102 | May 8, 2019 3:38 AM |
R102 true though.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | May 8, 2019 3:40 AM |
Nathan, first you need a good backstory. And epic challenges along the way (Yale doesn't count). A mascot helps. And a rival with pretty eyelashes who can't keep his hands off you.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | May 8, 2019 4:57 AM |
should I slash him? I am bored right now
by Anonymous | reply 105 | May 8, 2019 8:25 AM |
Nathan is homely. Those of you who think he's hot must really be into homely men.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | May 8, 2019 8:30 AM |
will nathan ever inspire something like this, i think not, there something peculiar and sensual about hanyu
by Anonymous | reply 107 | May 8, 2019 10:35 AM |
Forget this will-he-or-won't-he Yuzu/FaoI nonsense, the burning question about whether Sergei Voronov will skate next season has been answered: YES!
"he already said in another interview done for Match.TV earlier, he's preparing for the new season"
And this wonderful lady has done another interview with Sergei where he, in Yuzu style, answers the questions we all want to know: tea or coffee? cats or dogs? home-cooking or restaurants? spend or save? sea or mountains?
by Anonymous | reply 108 | May 8, 2019 12:52 PM |
And if you scroll down, poor Kolyada has a problem with every single one of these same questions lol!
by Anonymous | reply 109 | May 8, 2019 12:59 PM |
My answer is gaming. To all of them
by Anonymous | reply 110 | May 8, 2019 1:04 PM |
[109] lol , adorable... but i want to see sexy Kolyada
by Anonymous | reply 111 | May 8, 2019 1:06 PM |
Is the first grown-up on the left the new hottie coach at Sambo? Dave Lease implied that Eteri may be swapping out Danny G for this guy, though maybe it was a joke - likening it to the way she swaps out her skaters.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | May 8, 2019 1:17 PM |
I don't understand how you can find Kolyada sexy between his boring personality and those corny Elvis and Chaplin programs. And he has no lips.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | May 8, 2019 1:24 PM |
I think Nathan's face is quite pleasant to look at. And I'm a fan of his hair <3. Hoping he will keep this hair for next seasons.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | May 8, 2019 1:29 PM |
r114 to each his own
by Anonymous | reply 115 | May 8, 2019 1:51 PM |
R114 I think it's the hair that does it. R113 true, no-lip Kolyada is not sexy but I think he's a sweet and sensitive boy.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | May 8, 2019 1:54 PM |
Why aren't you guys talking about the biggest news of the off-season: Mirai and Assley are skipping the grand prix series.
It's not Kolyada's face or personality that makes him a pet obsession with this thread.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | May 8, 2019 2:00 PM |
R112 Sergei Rozanov - trains the younger kids and is a cutie. Unfortunately for us, he prefers swim trunks, so no ig bulge selfies
by Anonymous | reply 118 | May 8, 2019 2:26 PM |
Daniil in Miami. Rozanov is a little bit hotter, but he isn't narcissistic enough. He needs to post more often and with fewer layers of clothing.

I was kinda surprised at ISU's top 15 male skaters, but I think they consider three years or something. Anyway if I had to rank them in order of looks, best being #1, it would be:
1 Hanyu 2 Uno 3 Cha 4 Voronov 5 Brezina 6 Kolyada 7 Chen 8 Kvitelashvili 9 Boyang 10 Rizzo 11 Zhou 12 Brown 13 Messing 14 Vasiljevs 15 Samarin
The last five were very hard for me to put in order. I probably should have Rizzo higher but there's something too nerdy about him for my taste.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | May 8, 2019 4:25 PM |
R131 I would note the Datalounge Fans Favs Top 3
#51 Sondre ODDVOLL BOE
#53 Basar OKTAR
#61 Valtter VIRTANEN
by Anonymous | reply 132 | May 8, 2019 4:33 PM |
R132 WTF?
by Anonymous | reply 133 | May 8, 2019 4:34 PM |
#17 Alexia PAGANINI
#30 Eliska BREZINOVA aka Fat Cow (or was she a pig??)
#105 Marina PIREDDA aka Unknown Italian Girl
by Anonymous | reply 134 | May 8, 2019 4:35 PM |
San is unranked!
by Anonymous | reply 135 | May 8, 2019 4:35 PM |
R135 Not "unranked." Just above it all.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | May 8, 2019 4:37 PM |
Now that I can breathe a sign of relief about Uncle Voronov, I'm on pins and needles about DOCTOR Valtter. Please don't tell me he's retiring. It's all been so unfair, with that lazy bum Yuzu taking the medals that rightfully belong to him! (never mind that it's such a luscious bum!)
by Anonymous | reply 137 | May 8, 2019 4:40 PM |
R137 he has already announced programs for next season!
by Anonymous | reply 138 | May 8, 2019 4:41 PM |
I tried to do a ranking of looks for top 15 as well but it was hard because they're all so different and most are attractive in their on way. I'm gonna say Messing is the ugliest though.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | May 8, 2019 4:42 PM |

Sorry to detract from the Little and Big Kolyada, but still no news about Yuzu appearing in FaOI, huh?
by Anonymous | reply 150 | May 8, 2019 5:08 PM |
Little Kolyada did nothing of note last season. Big Kolyada, however, has probably gone to the beach and the pool and the gym shower. He's achieved so much and is the star of any room he bounces into.

V/M have also announced they're extending their "break" from competition and not participating in the grand prix series. Are they just fucking with the P/C fans at this point? I guess it's likelier that they would come back than Mirai or Ashley or Gracie or any of the skaters who haven't officially retired yet.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | May 8, 2019 5:22 PM |
R152, I just assumed that by extending their break, they meant "for the rest of our lives." haha.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | May 8, 2019 5:35 PM |
Well I'm glad V/M are keeping P/C on their toes because who else would, honestly, with the kind of judging going on.
I'm all for Yuzu looking delicate in the face but I just can't with "he's peculiar and sensual" or "he's ethereal" like dudes... oh well I guess everyone's allowed to wear their beer goggles on their fav.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | May 8, 2019 5:37 PM |
Scott is so full of himself . He think they would win with PC now? A year ago they won only one segment with pc during whole olympic season(short on olympics). We know why. Such luck wont happen again...
by Anonymous | reply 155 | May 8, 2019 5:39 PM |
Robin Cousins called Yuzu ethereal (I think Kurt Browning as well.) He kind of is, imo. His body is sensual - not so much his personality though, I agree with you there, but I think a lot of people would call his lifestyle peculiar. It's a shame he's so isolated (assuming he is, and it sure looks like it). It'll probably be hard for him to break out of that way of living. Maybe after he retires.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | May 8, 2019 5:44 PM |
DL Whores, no need for worry about Yuzuru. He has everything he needs here.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | May 8, 2019 6:23 PM |
R154 He is ethereal on the ice.
R156 Yeah, I think he himself probably does not realize that isolating himself for years will have consequences in the future. All the people and friends he pushed away will not come back, having grown tired of being rejected every time they invited him. But maybe he does not mind. Not everyone is a social butterfly after all. Mama Hanyu will be sure to find him a maid (I mean wife) to cater to his every need once he retires and for the things she will not be able to provide him, there will be grindr or locker rooms during ice show tours.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | May 8, 2019 6:27 PM |
R157 Oh dear. How embarrassing.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | May 8, 2019 6:28 PM |
I'd be surprised if Hanyu didn't know how horny his fans are for his ass and if he hadn't ever standed in front of a mirror and looked at his naked body taking selfies or something like that. I'm serious. Let's notice how usually he looks at himself in the small screen at studio when they were filming interviews ( watch post-Worlds interviews, post PC Olympics interviews!!!! ) to make sure he looked good in front of camera. Also there were some media day photos where he was looking at himself in the mirror at TCC rink ( when he was NOT doing imagine training ofc) and let's agree on how skilled he is with poses.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | May 8, 2019 7:16 PM |
R161 I mean, he put on the LGC costume, checked it from all angles and said, "I think is okay to wear this in front of people." I'm sure he knows his ass is hot

Kolyada has a mesmerizing weakness and it's that he flops so much that every competition he's in is a nail bitter and wondering when he'll ever stop kissing the ice. I didn't give a damn about him until I started feeling pity for his sorry ass because I finally realized he had some skills when he didn't crumble.

More Hanyu-related books coming out, including one with a hundred of his sayings accompanied by 100 photos on June 19. Hanyu is the only author listed and itâs an official Hanyu book.

Fernandez has a new photo with girlfriend and/or beard. Maybe itâs the angle of the shot, but Iâm surprised by the lack of muscle definition in his abs.
Is it true that Lysacek dated his fianceeâs cousin (male or female?) for years?
What exactly did Glenn tweet about Chen when they broke up? She implied he cheated? He likes to âlikeâ Zagitova's photos, although he mysteriously unfollowed her for that brief moment.

R150 The addition of Fernandezâs flamenco show may have changed their update schedule. Heâs announcing more details today (Thursday), so thereâll be an update on FaOI of some kind very soon.

JDC, have you seen this thread (linked)? Here's a few posts about fiancee's cousin:
Dangs cousin is about 30 years old. Was with Evan from about 2013 -2017. Lives in LA. And elsewhere. Photos of Evan with her in LA while he was living in NYC. And with Vera. Last year she referred to Vera as Evans âMissusâ weird as F
The whole situation is just strange. Want to wish them well. But red flags everywhere it seems. I think Evan had a relationship with Dang's cousin a couple years ago. Pictures of him with her up until 2017. Including while he was living in New York. Traveling with Vera. How weird is that? Looks like Evan was determined to get into that family...
I could post pictures from Veraâs friendâs instagrams but unfortunately not too successful with it. Up until last summer they were together all the time. Not sure who Dangâs cousin is but Asian women in pictures all the time but older than Evan, of course. The fact that his family told him to marry her and he proposed does not cut it. YOU and only YOU have to want it. What kept him away from Dang all these years? Maybe he just decided he had it with Vera and her old chrony friends! How does one post Instagrams on this site?

[quoteI was kinda surprised at ISU's top 15 male skaters, but I think they consider three years or something. Anyway if I had to rank them in order of looks, best being #1, it would be: 1 Hanyu 2 Uno 3 Cha 4 Voronov 5 Brezina 6 Kolyada 7 Chen 8 Kvitelashvili 9 Boyang 10 Rizzo 11 Zhou 12 Brown 13 Messing 14 Vasiljevs 15 Samarin
Oh, this is a fun game. I would put Uno near the bottom though and bump Vasiljevs and Rizzo up a few places. Samarin and Messing would fight for last place on my list and Zhou would be down there as well.
by Anonymous | reply 179 | May 9, 2019 2:51 AM |
I agree with the top 3. But I also would bump RIzzo and Vasiljevs up a few places.
by Anonymous | reply 180 | May 9, 2019 3:35 AM |
Cha is way too femme looking for me...he makes Yuzuru look butch. But he's also not a hideous troll. Hard to decide where I'd rank him.
by Anonymous | reply 181 | May 9, 2019 3:41 AM |
I think Cha looks like a kid. Shoma too. Vasiljevs has something of the awkward kid about him too, unfortunately. I'd put Chen second, then Kolyada, Boyang and Kvitelashvili. I like interesting faces more than conventionally pretty ones.
by Anonymous | reply 182 | May 9, 2019 4:00 AM |
Kill me but I would put the new and improved Brown in the top 4. Vasiljevs looks slow. Rizzo looks albino. Let's face it, most of them are average to fug.

Yeah, I have to say the men's field was generally better looking a couple quads ago. At least for my taste. You had Lambiel, Joubert, Daisuke, Tomas Verner, etc. On the other hand, there was PChan and Plushy, so maybe I just have my rose-colored glasses on.
by Anonymous | reply 185 | May 9, 2019 4:19 AM |
PChan's wonky eye vs. Plushy's nose, who would win?
by Anonymous | reply 186 | May 9, 2019 4:25 AM |
Lambiel, Joubert, Daisuke, Tomas Verner
That is truly a list worth fighting over; minus Verner though. This is going back a few years but a young Ilia Kulik was hot. Oddly enough, he not only chunked out, but turned into a different person altogether. I don't see any trace of his young self in recent pictures.
R186 Chiddy's wonky eye is always rolling in different directions, I bet he can see backwards and forwards, through time and space. He's like a character from Game of Thrones or Harry Potter. So yeah, he wins! Wait, what are they competing for again?
by Anonymous | reply 187 | May 9, 2019 4:36 AM |
181 Cha is a pretty boy. But 17 yo Hanyu is prettier.
by Anonymous | reply 188 | May 9, 2019 4:42 AM |
Seventeen-year-old Hanyu was a cute, fierce little thing, but not pretty. His haircut was atrocious and he looked very frail.
Cha is boy band pretty and can probably model, but not my cup of tea. Actually, Hanyu isn't my cup of tea either and nothing I would go for irl, but I find him incredibly beautiful and magnetic.
by Anonymous | reply 189 | May 9, 2019 4:53 AM |
Looks - Brezina, Rizzo, Moris, Voronov and Cha are top 5, Hanyu, Uno and Messing at the bottom, everyone else in the middle.
by Anonymous | reply 190 | May 9, 2019 4:56 AM |
Cha at his best is a sight to behold. Those lips!
by Anonymous | reply 191 | May 9, 2019 4:57 AM |
Uno has a handsome face with a garden gnome body. I'm confused about how to judge him.
by Anonymous | reply 192 | May 9, 2019 4:59 AM |
But then he can look like shit. Hanyu NEVER looked anywhere near this bad (not that I think Yuzu's ever looked bad but just sayin' - Cha runs the gamut). Maybe it was an awkward phase, skin-wise plus getting a bit chubby. I don't think Yuzu had an awkward phase. But he's more masculine looking than Cha (and that feels really odd to say lol).
I think Uno has a very handsome face/bone structure - pretty eyes. I overlook the blocky stubby little body and just judge the face.
by Anonymous | reply 193 | May 9, 2019 5:01 AM |
Why is Messing everyone's universal bottom? If you tilt your head and squint until things are blurry, I don't think he's all that bad.
by Anonymous | reply 194 | May 9, 2019 5:01 AM |
R194 it's not just that Messing is generally ugly but he also has this crazy look in his eyes that I don't trust. His smile freaks me out too R193 Damn I didn't realize Cha teenage acne was this bad, what aren't you taking advantage of your country magical skin care products, boy???
by Anonymous | reply 195 | May 9, 2019 5:08 AM |
I agree Uno has a handsome face. But he looks perpetually twelve because of his height.

by Anonymous | reply 201 | May 9, 2019 1:07 PM |
Since we're being shallow, I wanna ask a question. Aside from talent and personality, how much of Hanyu"s popularity is due to his physical beauty? Do you think he'd be as popular if he was plain looking?
(Yes, I'm aware some of you think Hanyu is meh .I guess this question is not for you guys)

by Anonymous | reply 203 | May 9, 2019 2:00 PM |
r202 Hanyu's popularity is a package deal and his looks and physique are a part of that package. I think he would be popular but not to this degree where people travel all over the world to see a figure skater. No other skater now or in the past has had this type of following...at least that I remember

Sonya Henie?
by Anonymous | reply 205 | May 9, 2019 2:19 PM |
R202 I think it's hard to separate because a lot of his physical appeal has to do with his personality and the way he looks on ice. If you pick apart his features, he might even be kind of odd looking. But there is always something alluring about him that radiates from within, that has to do with the ethereal, vulnerable way he skates and the way he expresses himself and his love for skating both on and off ice.
by Anonymous | reply 206 | May 9, 2019 2:26 PM |
Just rambly conjecture - the Japanese were knocking on the door to having a superstar skater for years - Midori Ito, Takahashi, Mao - and they made big splashes but not quite the whole enchilada, a la Yuna Kim or Plushenko. And THEN they got one.
With skating on the ropes, everyone was ready to jump on his bandwagon because Yuzu came at a lull -- Plush/Yags was over, Weir/Lysacek over, Mao and Yuna over, Patrick Chan finally winding down (and he wasn't cute enough to be big outside Canada?)... Who could fill the gap? The cute boy with the teddy bear, with beautiful quads, the latest mega-step in skating evolution... What's not to love? Nobody else was positioned to be the heir apparent.
Now we've got a Yank. A hypenated one but so what when the cupboard is bare. The market!! The tv money. Follow that money... And Russian girls have driven everybody out but the Japanese, so I guess we'll see where that goes.

by Anonymous | reply 208 | May 9, 2019 2:32 PM |
Henie was very popular but it's hard to compare given the new information age and that some of her popularity had to do with her later Hollywood career. She was also a legendary cunt and slut so I wonder how she would have translated in this day and age where few things can be kept hush hush.
by Anonymous | reply 209 | May 9, 2019 2:48 PM |
Nathan is boring. I don't think Yuzuru is. He's an enigma that people are curious about. A childlike hermit... but he's so hot famous artists and pianists are gushing - hell even Raf can't stop drooling when he talks about him - sexy body and Phoenix eyes.
Nathan's cute and has his curls - but the definition of dull. Even Chiddy provided more entertainment - and pissy prima donna Dai - and brash Plush - and wild weird Weir... but Nathan?

The name of Yuzu's (the band) new single is SEIMEI.
R307 Hanyu was not expected to be a big star outside figure skating. His speech/language plays a huge role in his popularity in Japan.
R201 I was hoping Raya wouldn't be part of it. It all sounds so last minute.
R211 The actual press conference with details is on the 22nd, which you can attend if you reserve a ticket. So they held press conference about a press conference?
by Anonymous | reply 219 | May 9, 2019 3:36 PM |
R219 thank you. It's like they're stringing things along because they haven't figured out the details yet. People are saying it's part of FAOI but apart from the dates, I haven't seen anything that says it is. Did I miss that part of the announcement? So they're not giving details until 2 days before the first performance then? I guess it has to be part of Faoi. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to sell tickets.

Gandy has started rescoring men's worlds. She already did the ladies. She provides gifs of almost everything, so you can see all of the URs and other errors like spins and steps which most have missed. She already has Zhou almost 12 points under.
R220 Japanese fans on twitter reported that Fernandez did confirm it was part of FaOI, but I haven't seen any reports from the Spanish embassy and Spanish media about that detail.

R222 Love Gandy, thorough and brutal and backs her shit up.
R221 It's odd Javi is using FaOI to promote his show but he's not returning the favor. I doubt Javi's show would make a much of a difference for FaOI attendance, but in the press releases and other promo for the show, FaOI isn't mentioned anywhere.

In what positions are the men (or should have been) after her analysis?
by Anonymous | reply 224 | May 9, 2019 5:15 PM |
R224 For SP, 1-3 remain the same (Chen, Brown, Hanyu), but the point differential is reduced because Nathan's score went down by about 3 points, while Brown's decreased only slightly and Hanyu's remained the same. She would have placed Zhou in 12th and placed Kolyada and Boyang slightly lower. I've linked to the rescoring chart.
My only objection (but not really) to Gandy is that she doesn't rescore PCS, so the scores for my fav, Satoko, look like shit. LOL. Deserved, I know, but still.

Fanyus are now obsessed with the ballet talk no less than Chen's fans. I see it everywhere on Twitter, PH... Funnily, none of them have the graceful qualities of ballet. Until now, skaters skating with balletic grace are Sasha Cohen, Tatsuki Machida and Anastasia Gubanova. I also saw the balletic inspiration in Alina Zagitova's Swan Lake and DTQ ( only in these programs) thanks to her costumes, her flexibility and some movements characterized for ballet.
by Anonymous | reply 226 | May 9, 2019 5:41 PM |
R225 Thank you. Zhou's overscoring is outrageous. What the hell happened
by Anonymous | reply 227 | May 9, 2019 5:48 PM |
I'm far from an expert, but I think Kolyada has a lot of grace - might be closest to a balletic skater?
by Anonymous | reply 228 | May 9, 2019 5:55 PM |
[R226] Most fans don't realize that Brown has had more ballet instruction than Chen. You won't hear about it because it interferes with the USFS narrative for Chen, but you can see the training in Jason's line, posture and arms. Looking at Chen's posture and lines, you would never know he had a ballet background. For that matter, most of the American men have better posture than Chen.
by Anonymous | reply 229 | May 9, 2019 6:11 PM |
Kolyada has great posture...oh and surely has that ballet bulge! (big kolyada i see you *wink)
by Anonymous | reply 230 | May 9, 2019 6:21 PM |
r226 the ballet talk around Hanyu is because a ballet instructor and her troupe dedicated a performance to him. It's not the same as announcers without ballet expertise talking about how taking ballet at the age of 5 made someone balletic.
by Anonymous | reply 231 | May 9, 2019 6:27 PM |
R228 R229 There are different types of grace. For ex, Mao, Kolyada, Miyahara, Brown, Daisuke,...have lot of grace on ice, they can control well their body movements, but being graceful is different from being balletic. That's why I said Zagitova's programs actually gave balletic vibes while her skating and her postures were ugly af. Just because when you watch her skates, you can immediately associate to ballet performances. Some skaters try to learn ballet to improve their postures. Taking these lessons might help fix bad postures and improve flexibility but it doesn't necessarily make you balletic. It also applies to learning dance which won't make you a dancer on ice.
R231 It's the same because his fans also use it to prove he's a balletic skater. No different from Chen fans trying to use his ballet background to make their narrative that he's balletic justified.
by Anonymous | reply 232 | May 9, 2019 6:44 PM |
R232 Hanyu is not balletic and hiis fans know that. At least at PH.
by Anonymous | reply 233 | May 9, 2019 7:36 PM |
Hanyu doesn't have a balletic style - his fans do know that and I think they're just amused (and feeling a little gloaty given the ballet talk around Chen) that actual ballet dancers think Hanyu's balletic. Also, let's state the obvious - we're all BORED to death and are kicking the can waiting for shit to happen.

Javi isn't a very good dancer - you can see it even in the brief clappy bits he does with Najarro, which don't require a lot from him. I hope the show is better, but Raya? Lafuente? his sister? Oh dear.

R234 Yuzu has many balletic qualities and is a natural at moving his body and creating beautiful lines. He just doesnât have the stiffness (stiff back and arms) associated with it which is for the best.
R235 I donât know why Javi is so into flamenco to begin with. He is a madrileno not from Andalusia as far as I know. Agreed that the line up is really underwhelming as well. And as someone else said itâs a bit strange that the promo doesnât mention faoi anywhere if the show is set to take place there. If I were faoi marketing team, I wouldnât be happy.

R240 His best short program was to âMalagueña,â so why not build an ice show around it? Of course, it should be mentioned that Ernesto Lecuona, the composer of âMalagueña,â wasnât from MĂĄlaga, or Andalusia - or even Spain. He was from Cuba.
Now that I think about it, Javiâs programs that were a nod to him being from Spain were not composed by Spaniards. (âThe Barber of Sevilleâ is an Italian opera; âMalagueñaâ was composed by a Cuban; and âMan of La Mancha,â though based on âDon Quixote,â is an American musical.)
For authentic Spanish flavor, he should have done a program to Aserejé by Las Ketchup. I can envision those silly hand movements in a step sequence.

Taken from GS about "the US ballet troupe company doing a Yuzu tribute performance. Now there is an interview. I love how the company's owner mentioned she mistake him for a ballet dancer the first time she saw him, goes to show how perfect and beautiful his posture is in Chopin:
âWhen I saw Yuzu skate in Pyeongchang, I thought he must be an accomplished ballet dancer who also skates,â Valdez stated. âThat was my first assumption, just based on his port de bras (carriage of the arms), carriage of the body. He moves like a ballet dancer. I thought he was classically trained. It doesnât matter, he is natural, so itâs beautiful. The carriage and the way he carves the space with his arms as he skates, itâs just very good ballet,â Valdez commented. âHis musicality, he makes sure his arms are moving at the right place just on the note.

For Ladies, most overscored for TES: Miyahara (-12.84), Medvedeva (-12.70), Zagitova (-11.45), Ryabova of Azerbaijan (-10.14), Feigin of Bulgaria (-7.52), Tennell (-6.15), Hendrickx (-5.35), Chartrand (-4.39), Chen of China (-4.23), Bell (-4.11). Overall, only Tursy and Schottâs TES scores did not go down.
Final placements: 1 Zagitova, 2 Tursy 3 Kihira 4 Sakamoto 5 Medvedeva, 6 Tennell, 7 Samodurova, 8 Bell, 9 Lim, 10 Miyahara. For Med, it wasnât just edge calls and URs on jumps, but missing rotations and incorrect levels on most spins and steps. Most men had the same spin problems.
R224 To add to r225: For Menâs SP, most overscored for TES were Zhou (-11.95), Chen (-3.02), Uno (-2.80), Bychenko (-2.67), Selevko of Estonia (-2.02), Jin (-1.63), Kolyada (-1.62), Reznichenko of Poland (-1.42), Samarin (-1.19), Tanaka (-1.17). In Zhouâs case, 4Lz<+3T<, 3A< and missed rotation on his CCoSp. Chenâs spins shouldâve been level 2. The panel actually called the UR on Unoâs flip this time.
Final placements for SP: 1 Chen 2 Brown 3 Hanyu 4 Rizzo 5 Uno 6 Aymoz 7 Brezina 8 Lazukin 9 Jin 10 Kolyada.
r225 That reminds me, I shouldâve mentioned Gandy only looks for deductions and doesnât look to increase GOE when rescoring. I like that she examines everyone. I never wouldâve known how overscored Ryabova (whoâs actually Russian and coached by Plushenko) is.
R238 After seeing that clapping bit r335 mentioned, we should probably keep our expectations low for that, too.
I couldâve sworn the original plan for Flamenco on Ice included actual flamenco dancers.

Who is Gandy and when did she/he become relevant in figure skating scoring discussions? I've never heard mention of it before this thread?
Hanyu's personality and looks cannot be separated from his popularity. Its one of the reasons I don't think any other skater can reach his level soon, unless Cha steps up. Anime looking boys and androgynous looks, as well as the gap in being cute and being fierce is a big draw to fangirls. Fangirls sexually fantasizing him with a top rival who is a rinkmate and "friend" Fernandez was a plus too. Also, I think Hanyu exhibits a few quirks that differed enough from the rest of the crop that his fans can pick apart.

Hanyu is confirmed for all FaOI locations.
Makabe is going to be on âJapan Grooveâ on BS Asahi at 1AM Sunday to talk about FaOI with music producer Satoshi Takebe who did FaOI last year. Maybe weâll get an update on something?
r253 Gandy is frequently referenced in Japanese blogs and twitter, but she just started her current blog during the 2017-2018 season, only focusing on some skaters at the time and didnât do full score comparisons like she does now. Uno ubers call her an anti because sheâs always been very vocal about his overscoring and people like to use her gifs of his URs when making a point.

Just thinking about Faoi's singers gave me a headache. Not only their voice but their songs are also horrifying. I really hope Yuzuru has his own show soon so that he doesn't have to do Faoi anymore. Not sure if this year the rumor that he was forced to appear in all venues is floating anywhere but I think he doesn't enjoy doing too many shows either, at least not as much as he love training.

by Anonymous | reply 260 | May 10, 2019 12:28 PM |
Would anyone be privy as to why there aren't any Japanese Olympic medallists from more recent Games appearing in ice shows where Hanyu is part of the cast? The last time I remember Takahashi being in FaOI was back in 2014 and the last time Hanyu was in a show with Asada where they were both already medallists was...was there even one?
Asada and Takahashi do appear in shows together periodically but never with Hanyu since 2014. Even Uno hasn't done any since he became an Olympic medallist himself. And I believe he's appeared in shows that at least one of the others were also in.
I mean if Asada and Takahashi are avoiding sharing shows with Hanyu because they don't want their stardom to clash with Hanyu's supernova, I get that. But it's not like Uno is big enough of a star in his own right to be headlining shows on his own so I don't see why he wouldn't be sharing at least a couple of shows with his handsy senpai. Unless that's just it. He just doesn't want to get pinched and babied and is dodging Hanyu's grabby hands when he can.
Otherwise, I don't get it. does Hanyu have cooties that prove fatal to other Japanese medallists if they were to do ice shows together or something?
by Anonymous | reply 261 | May 10, 2019 12:45 PM |
R261 I have a similar question. How do FaOI and The Ice choose skaters to invite ? Why do skaters doing The Ice stop doing Faoi ?
And when will we get official annoucement about this lady skating at Faoi ? Her reputation is only second to Yuzuru.
by Anonymous | reply 262 | May 10, 2019 12:54 PM |
Did it ever occur to you that maybe Hanyu or his management team might have some say in the matter, R261? You just naturally assume that everyone else is to blame? I don't see why it matters. Japan has enough ice shows that they don't need every star in every cast. They're going to sell tickets no matter what.
by Anonymous | reply 263 | May 10, 2019 12:55 PM |

R261 I am an OGM mothafucka!!
by Anonymous | reply 266 | May 10, 2019 1:41 PM |
R263 Sigh. I guess you'll just have to forgive me for finding it hard to imagine Hanyu keeping anyone out, given that he hasn't displayed signs of divaism or a huge ego to justify that sort of suspicion. I'm not saying that he isn't a diva, mind, cos I don't know the guy personally, but he hasn't given people reason to think he is. It's also hard to imagine him insecure about his countrymen eclipsing him. And he seems to have a lot of say when it comes to management, given that he isn't signed to any agency. I can't imagine Asada being insecure either but I don't see her having a lot of say in her management given that she's signed to a huge agency who seem to be more given to strategic planning. Takahashi is also signed up with an agency so this seems to be more their decision than it is any of the skaters, I guess.
Anyway, I wasnt trying to point fingers here so there's no need to get all defensive. Was just genuinely curious.
R266 Sorry you're not quite recent enough (the others were all Hanyu's peers at one point) and you've got babies to raise so I didn't count ya.

Dayum. I just realized how unsuited I am to this place. I can't seem to imagine people being biatches and accusing them of being divas for no good reason. But a lot of posts here are way too amusing and some of the finger-pointing do seem convincing enough that it's all too juicy for me to stay away...
by Anonymous | reply 268 | May 10, 2019 1:51 PM |
R268 I'm the total opposite. I love this place because I can't gel with the fans that believe everyone and all skaters are friends, and it's just media or nasty fandoms stirring up trouble. People are so different. It's too unrealistic to believe everyone is an angel and it's all the agencies' or coaches' or tiger parents' fault. Sometimes the theories go too far, but it's better than a white or black approach.
by Anonymous | reply 270 | May 10, 2019 3:11 PM |
I really hoped Yuzu would skip the ice shows (or just do Sendai) and rest his ankle. It was obviously not in good shape 2 months ago and given that we saw him on the ice just 1 week after World itâs clear he didnât rest. Sometimes I agree with Javi and his passive aggressive comments about how Yuzu can destroy his body if he wants because thatâs also what Iâm feeling at this point.
by Anonymous | reply 271 | May 10, 2019 3:29 PM |
R270 I think I may have an idea what places you're talking about and I have to say, despite being far from 100% suited for this place, I don't find myself fitting in those places either. They're highly informative but there's just something not entirely 3 dimensional about them that I find unsettling and despite the wildness that goes on here (gives me whiplash most times), i actually find interacting here more agreeable (tho I try to keep it minimal so as not to get too badly lashed by wild discourses and big attitudes).
Anyway, it's just the mudslinging with no real grounds or solid justification that I don't quite enjoy. The less delusional and/or spiteful ones that are backed up with convincing references can be quite persuasive and highly enjoyable to mull over though. Which is why i keep coming back.
But back to what I was talking about, like commercial contracts, I do think the show organizers have to go through the skaters' agencies when they invite skaters. For skaters who are represented anyway. And for big agencies like IMG, I'm thinking they're more calculating as to what shows they advise their skaters to go for. I mean, that's basically what their paid to do right? I wonder if FaOi even extended invites to them at all. They've had Uno and Takahashi before not too long ago so it stands to reason they might've reached out to them at least. I'm think there have been articles in the past indicating that other shows like DoI have reached out to Hanyu but after the whole lisfranc thing, the guy seems to have decided on sticking to just one major show.

I admittedly haven't watched Gogo skate because for some reason he doesn't interest me despite being Canada's so-called newest hope for FS glory (yeah, I'm a bad Canadian for not blindly supporting our skaters). Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like he's purely a tech heavy skater and a bit on the dull side? So I suppose it isn't a far stretch for Raf to Nathanize the kid, and seeing as judges love whatever Nathan is doing, it could work out in the long run (as long as Gogo's body holds). Who knows, maybe Raf will throw in a transition or two for Gogo.
by Anonymous | reply 277 | May 10, 2019 4:29 PM |
R273 I'm with you there. I, for one, enjoy the mudslinging here, unfounded or not. It makes for a much more entertaining take on the figure skating world's goings-on. I mean, where else can you have fully dedicated threads to Hanyu's ass, Med's poor costume/music/personal/marketing choices and Misha just being an all-around twat?
by Anonymous | reply 278 | May 10, 2019 4:40 PM |
R276 well, judges told us very clearly that Raf is THE coach for men. Gogo follows trends.
by Anonymous | reply 279 | May 10, 2019 4:41 PM |
We've already covered a lot of the questions about shows in previous threads. Ice shows are run by different organizers and agencies who choose which skaters to appear in their shows. Sponsors also affect who's chosen. Uno and Takahashi are in USM, Mao is in IMG.
Hanyu makes more than enough money that he doesn't need to appear in other shows. From a business standpoint, there's no reason to invite Asada, Takahashi or Uno (who are probably more expensive to hire than other Japanese skaters after Hanyu) when Hanyu sells out shows on his own. He also overshadows other skaters, which wouldn't look very good if other skaters are supposed to headline or act as the MC in these other shows, especially if they're run by USM or IMG.
But Asada has never appeared in FaOI (CIC), probably because Arakawa was the unofficial MC until Hanyu. (Supposedly, they only wanted gold medalists to be the MC). Asada used to headline/MC The Ice (IMG), but she's only doing her own show now, so Uno has now taken that role. Dreams on Ice (CIC) is more for young skaters to debut their new programs and most participants are in their teens.
Takahashi ubers would also look away and refuse to clap for Hanyu at shows, which doesn't look good on TV. They also left nasty messages for him, which probably caused a headache for staff.
The musical artist selection is likely all political and agency related. They're mostly classical crossover, has beens, or were never quite popular. The age of the audience might have something to do with it as well and CIC might be avoiding popular artists who could overshadow the skaters or cause ticket wars between skating and music fans. That's probably why Toshi was invited instead of Yoshiki, whose fans outnumber Hanyu's.

by Anonymous | reply 282 | May 10, 2019 5:01 PM |
R280 Thanks as always for the detailed explanation. That's one downside to having Hanyu in a show - the rest of the cast/musical artists can be shit and the tickets would still sell out.

Thanks JDC! Just the kind of quality content I've been hoping for to sate my curiosity. It all makes perfect sense now.
Yeah, I'm a both a latecomer to FS and even later to DL. I only encountered this thread, and subsequently DL, in its mid1Xs.
And I unintentionally lied when I said I only come back for the more legit sounding theories. There's also this, the roleplaying, and That Ass. Plenty of things to keep one interested.
So on to the next hot topic: is Raf's school slowly turning into a male version of Eteri's school, that covers the other two major feds? With Chen paving the way for the likes of Gogolev (and also Zhou), does this spell the coming of the golden age of quad bots from the three major FS feds, across both singles disciplines? Will Hanyu's ambition and will foil the plans on the men's side again with the help of psychological stuffed-toy related attacks or will they succumb to accumulated injuries? Will Kihira reign, or will it be the tiny Russian up-and-coming slated-to-be powerhouses instead? Stay tuned and find out this next Autumn thru Spring.

I don't want to rehash this again, but I wish the Takahashi ubers would grow the fuck up. They're mostly old ffs, and yet they're still hanging onto this petty shit years later. Hanyu and Takahashi are different kinds of skaters, with different strengths. Just appreciate them for what they have to offer. Takahashi fans should be more offended by the likes of Chen and Zhou who erase what it actually means to be an artistic skater. And yet a lot of them are on board with these guys simply because of their dislike of Hanyu. I can't even visit Takahashi fan fests or follow fans on Twitter anymore because they are delusional and crazy.

Gogo's actual skating fits Raf to a tee, so I'm surprised I saw (don't remember if here or elsewhere) people sad that he's leaving TCC where they might focus on other aspects of his skating to Raf who is the male eteri and knows how much TES matters in the game. Supposedly Chen had some artistic bone as a junior which went away with trying to catch up with the top in seniors. Gogo hasn't shone even that little bit of potential in juniors aside from quads. The future of figure skating is going to be so dull. The only silver lining is that Gogo or his tiger parents could be divas so there's potential bitchery in the future Chan style. Canadians.

R286 Spill the drama. Is there new beef?
Ubers don't hate on Chen and Zhou because it gives them great pleasure to support anyone who can defeat Hanyu. They mass hyped Uno who couldn't do it, so to the Americans they go. Much like the Chan ubers who are clinging to Chen, despite a similar glaring contrast between Chen's skating skills and Chan's.

So...what, these people aren't really fans of the sport and more people who simply find pleasure in being part of a faction? Or maybe they were fans once upon a time but then lost sight of it because Hanyu's meteoric rise to heights where the one(s) they admired have failed to reach drove all sense of reason from them? So if, say, Chen had been born earlier and had been the one to drive Chan and Takahashi out of contention and Hanyu had been born later and is only now rising as a rival to Chen, there's a good chance they'd be booing Chen and be on Hanyu's side instead?

Brought over from GS:
"On twitter there's a lot of buzz regarding remarks Shoma made in the Colantotte interview where he discusses his summer training camp. He says his current training situation in Japan is tough because he doesn't have high level training mates, so he's excited about the training camp because there will be skaters at his level there.
"The camp is located overseas and will begin around mid to late June, and after a month he will head back to Japan for The Ice before returning to that overseas training location for the rest of the summer. As there are only a few rinks in the world where there are skaters of his caliber many people believe he may be spending the summer with Raf. And it does sound like the scheduling would work with so many of Raf's skaters also participating in The Ice."

R291 People can be a fan of many different skaters for different reasons. One can love Chan's smooth skating skills and also appreciate Chen who has the jumping prowess and consistency that Chan never had. Except, I mean Chen has the quads but isn't necessarily making them beautiful so idgi why the sudden appreciation of Chen if they couldn't learn to appreciate Hanyu. For the petty ones, there's no mistaking what they're in it for.

Sooooo yaletic
by Anonymous | reply 297 | May 10, 2019 6:18 PM |
r291 I'm an oldie Takahashi fan and I will say this. Our consistent gripes over the years have been: 1) he was underscored in PCS; 2) repeatedly fucked over by skaters from bigger feds; 3) repeatedly fucked over by skaters who were perceived as being better technical skaters, even when they splatted. Does this sound familiar? So yes, I completely side-eye former Takahashi fans who are now rooting for the likes of Chen, Zhou and Gogolev. I could never get on board the Chan train because he is a cunt and because of WC 2012.
I can't speak for Japanese Takahashi fans, but I will say that Hanyu's rise was hard. He was also incredibly ambitious and honest about who he looked up to and what kind of skater he aspired to be, so the transition wasn't easy. It's kind of like when some Hanyu fans complain why certain skaters don't say they look up to Hanyu. I know some of these things are driven by regional politics, but really, they should be able to look up to whomever they want.
by Anonymous | reply 298 | May 10, 2019 6:47 PM |
R295 I'd put consistency in quotation marks with a huge asterisk, and an additional footnote mentioning the fact that his "consistency" didn't show up until US Nationals where the American media subsequently took it upon themselves to rewrite his skating career as well as the history of figure skating to that point. Up until then, he was flailing around on his ass almost as much as our dear Chiddy (may he always be a cunt) used to.

R292 Brian probably?? He certainly seems to be the most enthusiastic about Med so he'll probably make time for her in between other projects like the China thing (which he's back from for now, I believe). I don't think Barkell really worked with Med much anyway, so I doubt his leaving will impact her training.

You guys, I saw this on the Evan Lysacek engagement thread and had to bring it back here
Okay, I go (or went to) the same gym that he did. And like someone upthread, I have also sampled what he has to offer (hi, R143... wonder if we've ever hooked up?!?) So, he had quite the reputation at the gym as he would be there three times a day, every day, trolling for dick. Several people would talk about him and refer to him as, "Miss E," or "Missy," primarily because of the attitude he would throw around.
When I say attitude, I mean, attitude. He would act like a real bitch who thought he was 5 levels higher than he actually is. He also had a particular type and if he wasn't interested in you, he would act like an exasperated bitch towards the person he was so offensive to him. I mean, it was really out of hand and unnecessary the way he would sigh in disgust at someone, leave in a huff, slam the door, etc.
He was also really particular in how he would hook up, meaning he was only interested in guys that were several grades above him in the looks and fitness department.. He would also only want to do it if it was one on one. So if he was blowing you, he'd stop if someone would come in, fine, but if they also played, he wouldn't continue. He'd storm out in a huff, even if he had played with that person before. And then he'd stalk you from steam to sauna to try to finish the job or get mad if you hooked up with someone else in the meantime.
Anyway, this particular incident happened at the end of October last year. He was there and a few of us were messing around and he was coming in and out and being annoyed that he couldn't get the steam to himself. Finally, most everyone left and I was alone, and Missy comes in and starts up. A minute later, some other guy walks in and Missy immediately gets up in a huff, makes this disgusted noise at the guy as he walks by, and storms out of the steam. Fine.
The guy that walked in seemed confused but laughed. It was obvious this guy wasn't trying to play but actually just trying to use the steam. Missy comes back in a half dozen times in 10 minutes, and each time he enters and sees the guy there, he turns around, and makes it obvious he's annoyed. The guy actually said something like, "am I interrupting something?" I felt sort of bad because Missy was actually being super rude to this guy who just wanted to use the steam for its intended purpose.
A few more minutes go by, some others come in and start to play and the guy just using the steam notices and politely gets up and leaves us to it. I finish and shower, etc. and while I'm shaving this other guy that I know who had been in there playing mentioned that Missy was blowing him, some guy entered, and Missy nearly bit his dick off, when that other guy came back to see if we were done and it was clear for him to use the steam. We sort of laugh about it and I go and change. Over by the lockers, Missy is in the same bay as I am, and the guy who he had been super rude to goes up to him and says, "Are you Ev...?"
Before he can finish, Missy says, "no," and again, in the rudest way possible. And the guy laughs and says, "Funny, you look just like my cousin Vera's boyfriend. I guess we'll have a laugh when I tell her about it later today." I had no idea at the time (and still don't) whether or not this person was actually related to Vera or if he was just fucking around trying to piss him off, but I always thought it was funny. Reading this thread made me wonder again if maybe that's actually what happened.

Well then, I'll take back what I said about Chen and consistency.
Chan isn't all about his ego. He is remembered by me as the master of flopping over on ice (I still adore those gif worthy moments) which made me forget a moment about other skaters falling on their ass as much. None of the current male skaters except maybe Messing have been as spectacular at falling since.

R326 Yeah, he's very consistent. From a previous thread where we've already talked about this tedious topic to death: "Chen had falls and URs at every competition until Nationals, including falls during both programs at the GPF, but judges were still rewarding him with 9.0-9.75 in PCS (though thankfully not at JO where he fell four times)."

by Anonymous | reply 336 | May 11, 2019 2:13 AM |
TSL interviewed Button.
Uno said itâs irritating that people assume heâs good at any game. In fact, he works very hard at his games. For example, he was terrible at Koya kodo (âKnives Outâ) when he first started, but had a lot of free time during the Olympic season, so he played thousands of battles and became an expert player in just a week!
Uno has also been getting along well with Marin lately. Maybe heâll enjoy spending time at Rafâs camp if thatâs where heâs going. Sean Rabbit, who wants you to use his coupon code when you order your Japanese protein or Gaston Luga backpacks or Falun Gong dance show tickets, will no doubt appear.
And speaking of Sean Rabbit⊠He appeared on Japanese TV (ârandomâ interview on the street segment?) to br-âŠsay heâs an acquaintance of Hanyuâs. At least his Japanese has improved. No one knew who he was. Clip on his twitter.
Doshisha Sports Atom posted a talk between Kinki (the region, perverts) skaters Tomono, Honda Brother, and Nakamura. Tomono said Ge helped him so much with not only his expression, but also his technical elements that he was almost like a sub-coach (and thatâs why his jumps were terrible). Honda brother says they do a lot more off-ice training at Rafâs camp and it feels like his entire day is devoted to skating/training. (Maybe Uno won't like it.)
R301 Even if it isnât true, that sounds just like him. Thank you and thank you to the person who quoted from the same thread earlier. I find the cousin thing weirder than Missyâs gay cover-up and Dang could easily do better even if all she wanted was a sperm donor, unless sheâs trying to get back at her cousin and Missy is trying to get back at Wang?
R326 I donât know. Is it as ridiculous as the idea that American beauties are flocking to Chen? R330 To be fair, Uno, Hanyu, Jin, and Zhou didnât fall four times in one program and lose to Zagitova.
(If youâre talking about Worlds, no one is disputing the fact that he didnât fall. Theyâre just making fun of the idea that he was consistent all season, which he wasnât, and no one is saying any of the other men were, either.)
Sakamoto had to get a second job to pay her bills. Her dad, too:
by Anonymous | reply 337 | May 11, 2019 2:32 AM |
R332 I don't understand what you're trying to argue. You complain about people questioning Nate's consistency, claiming he is the most consistent. Someone pointed out that he wasn't all that consistent up until Nats. You then whine that it's unfair to point out his inconsistency because everyone is inconsistent. How do you even define consistency in the quad era? Just landing the quads? What about URs and wrong edges, both called and uncalled? Isn't it easier to be consistent if you strip your programs of everything but jumps? Do you still get credit for consistency if you reduce the number of quads? You shouldn't bother getting so worked up about something people can argue ad infinitum and easily disprove when you call x person "most" consistent.
by Anonymous | reply 338 | May 11, 2019 2:35 AM |
It's easier not to fall when all you do is crossovers and jumps and no transitions or steps in and out and even then Chen isn't more consistent than most of the top men. He just had a good 2nd half of season this year helped with ridiculous overscoring and brainwashing by U.S. media to make it seem like he did something exceptional.

Let's see men TES scores: Hanyu: : 79,01 ( ACI) 98,01( Finland GF) 78.25 ( RC) 110,26( Worlds) Chen: 99.05 (SA) 96.94 ( France GP), 101.79( GPF), 121.24( Worlds), 105.91 (WTT ) Uno: 83.75 ( Lombardia) 101.74( SC) 94.18 ( NHK) 93.79( GPF),104.48( 4CC) 89.9 ( Worlds), 100 ( WTT)

R371 nah, Kolyada is the consistent splatter.
by Anonymous | reply 372 | May 11, 2019 9:15 PM |
R345 r366 No one refers to TES scores when talking about a skaterâs consistency because skaters alter their programs and scores will vary even if a skater gives the same exact performance every time since the judges are different for each event. Chen fell and URed during his FS in the GPF but didnât during SA, yet you wouldnât know it because his GPF TES is higher.
Consistency refers to falls and depending on the person, other errors called or uncalled. You know this because you and I already discussed Chenâs consistency in thread 28 where, oddly, you didnât bring up his TES.
Not to mention, weâre talking about Chenâs consistency. Kihira, Hanyu, and Unoâs scores are irrelevant. (And why only Japanese skaters, including a ladies skater?) But by your new definition, Chen is the least consistent because his TES went up-down-up-up-down with a range of 66.32 to 121.24, instead of steadily increasing over the season or remaining the same. And thatâs 7 falls for 7 competitions, if youâre also going to include Hanyuâs first competition of the season.
Gandy finished her analysis of FS and final summary. Iâll go over the scoring in detail later, but Iâm watching yesterdayâs Merengue no Kimochi right now and want to get to that first because Takahashiâs appearance on the show was far worse than whatâs been described here. Itâs a PR nightmare and heâs turned off his own fans.

R373 I already explained why I didn't include his Japan Open. It isn't ISU competition.
I disagree consistency refers to falls only while other mistakes like pop could seriously affect the score. No one would say Hanyu at ACI 2017 was more consistent and did better than Chen at JO because he didn't fall 4 times, he popped 4 jumps instead. While TES score will vary from competition ro competition, TES is the closely indication to how much a skater delivers his technical content. And I said "No one is really more consistent than Chen" Why I can't bring up other names to support that?
by Anonymous | reply 381 | May 11, 2019 10:14 PM |
R373 itâs obvious youâre a biased Chen Uber. Just agree to disagree -consistency within a season versus consistency in ISU competition. Pops are same or not same as falls, whatever. I agree with JDC- if you use the range regardless Chen is very inconsistent ( see howâs I didnt compare him to other skaters)

Why is it an insult to be called a Chen Uber? If you are one you should be proud of it and not get so defensive when youâre called one. Hanyu is my favorite skater. Thatâs why I am on a dL site that starts with his name. Whatâs the confusion.

R391 How about I'm not but I'm called Chen uber which it doesn't mean anything nice , in a place where most of people are allergic to Chen uber, uhh? Some people here are delusional and overestimate this place. Real Chen ubers, Dai ubers or MedHanyu shippers who don't give a shit about Hanyu would have no time for being here to argue with them.
TES is the closely indication to how much a skater delivers his technical content
With the caveat that the judges were actually doing their job properly though. You really can't use TES (or the scores in general) as a means of determining consistency when it is subject to the whims and fancies of the judges and is a manifestation of their piss poor ability to do their job properly. We need only look at what Vincent Zhou was gifted this season to understand just how little his scores are in any way a reflection of reality.
by Anonymous | reply 394 | May 11, 2019 11:35 PM |
R387 Here's what I noticed. Going by the concept the term "consistency" is most commonly used for in FS-related arguments, people here are calling Chen inconsistent mainly because if you havent seen him skate this season and just go by his scores, you would think he is more consistent, whereas this isn't the case for most other non-US top skaters in the men's field (the ones who have quads--Aaron probably shouldn't have retired). So I think people are just pointing out the truth belied by his scores: that Chen is about as inconsistent as everyone else in the first half of the season (when incidentally, he actually had more going on in his programs besides his quads), and then when he gained consistency later after sacrificing the uhhh, content that "aren't necessary but are mere guidelines", he got propped up where his elements aren't necessarily deserving of high GOEs simply because he's making less mistakes. It's basically wilful manipulation to direct crowd thinking to a direction desired by the manipulator, and is one of the oldest tricks in the books when it comes to controlling public reaction.
And here you are saying he is consistent precisely because his scores say he is. So I think those who labelled you a Chen uber actually gave you more credit because the only other thing you can be is blind and/or gullible...which seems harsh, and despite this being DL, maybe people don't want to go there just yet.
by Anonymous | reply 395 | May 12, 2019 12:12 AM |
controlling public reaction and thinking*
On a different note, does it make me a bad person to feel vindicated on Weir's behalf? Look at him being invited to skate in big shows with huge, even sold out, crowds year after year while that used-to-be huge one that banned him doesn't seem too far off from the point of simply struggling to keep afloat? I'm surprised he's not gloating about it publicly. Or is he and I just missed it, not being a follower of social media accounts?
Anyway, I'm not even a Weir fan, not by a long shot, but despite all the injustices going on in the world, small confirmations that justice does exist like this reaffirms my faith somewhat.

R397 it's probably me projecting or something - but I always think I see that little bit of panic or reticence when Yuzu puts his hands on Shoma, or rubs his cheek or something - like flashing through his mind is, "What'll I do? What'll I do??" You never see Shoma making the first move, though maybe that's the pecking order? (though that doesn't stop Yuzu from playing with Nobunari Oda just any kind of way that strikes his fancy, verbally or physically)

If DV means what the "Urban Dictionary" of slang said it meant - then WTF?? Dai must have been out of his mind. (can't wait for more details)
And I think Jason would do whatever he had to to be accepted/liked by Brian. He admitted he hated the Simon & Garfunkel thing when he first heard it, but he ended up going along - so I guess he's stuck with DW, but I'll always be grateful Yuzu got free of him (for competition programs anyway). And didn't a number of Japanese women ditch DW this year? Thank heavens.

R402 I think there's a ring of truth to what you're saying - so many skaters dumped DW that getting dumped by Jason would have been pretty humiliating so Jason probably felt bad and/or was pressured into using him again.

R408 Yes, Ward is doing his SP and Wilson is only doing one of Mihara's programs. (He did both last season.) I forget which one, but it was announced yesterday? that Lori is doing Mihara's other one for the first time.
The episode was 1.5 hours long and they were in a studio, so Takahashi would talk even after his segment. I have to do this in multiple posts. Brace yourselves and save your questions until the end, please!
Keep in mind, everyone (not just figure skating fans) knows Takahashi is gay. Not only does everyone know about his boyfriend from a few years ago and frequent visits to Tokyoâs gay bars, the media has constantly alluded to his gayness (âgirlier than girly girls,â âhas a gay accent and talks like a mama in 2-chome,â âalso attracted to menâ) even in his presence, with his blessing.
The part about Zagitova began with the main host asking âWhat type of woman or what celebrities do you like?â He named Sarina Suzuki as his ideal type, because he loves husky voices (we know) and sharp faces (we know). But lately, he watches everything that Haruna Kawaguchi is in while picturing himself as her romantic partner. When he looks at women, he always focuses on their legs because he has a leg fetish. He likes it when they have meat from their butt to thigh, but slim calves and ankles. So the main host asked, âOf the figure skaters, whose legs do you like the most?â Thatâs when he named Zagitova and said he likes the line of her body from her butt to thigh, and skinny calves. Then he said, âOh, I sound so creepy.â The host replied, âYeah, you sound like a perv,â (and they kept calling him a perv throughout the show, because he was creepy as hell).

Thatâs when they brought out the board only showing the legs of the three skaters to see if he could actually identify Zagitovaâs legs and wasnât bullshitting. He immediately knew it wasnât 2 (Med). He wasnât sure if it was 1 or 3, but one of the co-hosts joked 3âs legs (Kanako Murakamiâs) looked a little thick, so he guessed 1 which was correct. Having an adult describe a minorâs body part is controversial in Japan, even on a late-night variety show by someone who everyone knows isnât attracted to them, and Merengue is a daytime show. And itâs not only the straight-talk from Takahashi thatâs disingenuous. The use of Zagitova, Medvedeva, and Murakami was no doubt for the purpose of promo for those skaters. But Takahashi wasnât tricked into anything, it was clearly all planned, and he got far creepier later without prompting.
Throughout the show, he creeped on the other guest, Manami Hashimoto. (No relation to our Hashimoto, but someone here will surely be cracking jokes.) Heâd look her up like a dirty old man and compliment her at times, and the fact that heâs gay and everyone knows heâs faking it made it somehow creepier. When it was time for her segment and Hashitomo talked about a racy photoshoot she had where her dress hung from her body revealing side boob with a just barely covered nipple, he said, âOoh, I love that (body) line.â When they brought out her photobook and he looked through the pages, he said: â(on a nude photo) These are the ones I like!â âAre you naked in this one?â And âWhat a nice ass!â (Yes, âAss,â not even âbutt.â)
Either Takahashi and his team are completely delusional and think the public came down with a sudden case of amnesia and will like him more if heâs a straight guy who talks about minors and creeps on women face-to-face than if heâs gay, or heâs doing it for (Seiko) Hashimoto for some reason.
by Anonymous | reply 417 | May 12, 2019 2:25 AM |
It's not Dai's fault that none of the juniors are very talented or exciting to watch. I mean, Koshiro is pleasant enough, Sota's whatever, the rest are meh. They haven't shown anything to warrant giving them a spotlight so far.
What's with all the Dai hate here? I'm certainly not the Daitroll, but I don't get it at all...I'd watch him over 95% of the rest of the men's field no matter how low his tech score is.

R418 the point is Dai has no future, Japan needs an heir to Hanyu (uno is a big question mark).. scores are somewhat based on reputation. Daiâs FS in JNats was embarrassing. Watch in in ice shows, not while heâs stealing the limelight and PROMOTION from the juniors.

But it doesnât end there. Takahashi talked about drinking everyday during his 3-year retirement except for three days, and pissing himself. Heâd drink 6-7 chuhai (9%) each time. There were a couple of times where heâd pass out in his living room, wake up, then move to his bed where heâd realized he was wet and had pissed himself. Then heâd moved to his guestroom and piss himself in that bed, too. Kanako Murakami said heâd bother everyone whenever he got drunk (including at fs banquets) and Takahashi admitted the alcohol would make him believe everyone loved him. (In the past, Murakami and Suzuki have talked about how the other Japanese skaters would have to take care of him.) He said he doesnât do any of that anymore and lives a healthy lifestyle, but it was a light-hearted talk. He was laughing and joking, and didnât seem to completely realize the seriousness of his alcoholic behavior.
And [boldSynesthesia[/bold], if youâre still around: Takahashi also talked about how he [italic]often[/italic] threw his mobile and other objects (including food at restaurants) at his coaches, trainers, and manager, when heâd get angry and thatâs how he broke 2-3 of his phones. Again, he apologized for his behavior, but was also laughing and didnât seem to understand just how bad it came across.
Right before Merengue, Takahashi was on Osama no Brunch to promote his apartment building (which is controversial in itself), so his appearance on Merenge was obviously tied to that as it was also brought up during that show. During the ending credits, a Hyoen promo played but I donât remember any real talk about ice show at all. (I did skip through his cooking stuff.) But they showed photos of his apartment building and interior decorating work.
And Merengue is the show Murakami (USM) co-hosts which only hires Soka Gakkai members for their regulars.

No - I can't remember when it was. I'm sure it's in one of these threads, but there are so many! I'll look around a bit. I think they were goofing off backstage - maybe before a medal ceremony - and Yuzuru just rubbed his cheek in an affectionate way and Shoma looked scared to death. Then Yuzuru laughed and made light of it. That's how I remember it anyway.

One of the other co-hosts: "You know, I like to study architecture. I've looked at nobel-prize and other award-winning buildings, and I can't think of anyone who'd design their name into their building like that."
R425 The reaction is already out. Sports papers and most major internet news have covered it. Everyone is disgusted and it's contributing to the anger about his funding.

R426 I remember that clip. It was memorable because he touched Shoma's cheek in a way that he hadn't done before, which is just pulling at his cheek fat like a baby. This time he reached out slowly and tenderly caressed his cheek like a lover, and Shoma stared owlishly completely frozen, but it also looked like he was going along with it by looking like a lovestruck teenage girl while Yuzu was playing macho lover boy. But then again most of the time when Yuzu plays with Shoma it looks like Shoma is ambushed and just good naturedly goes along with it in half confusion, so.

Holy shit. Thanks, JDC, for taking the time write out all the details. I have to admit, I initially laughed it off when I thought Dai made an inappropriate, passing comment about Zags and people were just overreacting. I have to ask, is he in his right mind? Who would go on national TV and say these things? Scratch that - most people wouldn't say or do these things in private. I also don't buy that he just went from being a fall-down alcoholic (and going as far back as his skating days) to completely sober simply because he started skating again.
Maybe this is farfetched, but I'm wondering if this is an act of self-sabotage - he doesn't really want to go on competing, knows he not competitive anymore, but doesn't want to disappoint his fans or the people around him, so he has a massive meltdown on TV to force his own re-retirement.

by Anonymous | reply 440 | May 12, 2019 6:16 AM |
But JDC mentioned "DV" upthread before the summaries.
Maybe that's what Dai meant when he said the "d" in the design for Daisuke was not the "good d" (which is double vagina? - though I'd think it might be "dick" that would be the "good d" for him, lol) But why be using naughty terms in English? I'm so confused... All of Dai's acting out has me confused. I really don't get him at all.
I remember when he was a sportcaster during Pyeongchang and he also had some kind of other show on a Japanese network at about the same time -- doing special shows about people doing exciting or unusual things? Oh something like that. And he quit - and said that kind of work was just too hard for him. But it seemed like such a great job to go to after skating - since he doesn't seem like the coaching type lol.
But now I guess he'll be a real estate tycoon (a la Trump? could Dai be Shinzo Abe's successor?) Oh I need to go to bed - and I had the nerve to call Yuzu an "enigma"!
I kind of feel bad for him. Maybe he needs some medications, I think he's been depressed/and or unhappy for a long time.
That's what worries me. If he really is a narcissist, then they often kind of fall apart when the fame diminishes or they lose the limelight. If he really still has addiction issues, well that explains everything. Although I don't think it's ever easy for a superstar to step down - lots of former Olympians spiral down. Not all though. But you need to have your head screwed on very well to handle the highs and lows of mega-stardom, and yeah, I think Dai had that, in his country and in his field. But it was kinda ripped away fairly soon - but isn't that usually true in figure skating? 28 is practically elderly for a singles star.

I remember last year there was one stop that Yuzu couldn't do because of a sports awards show. And it was the only one that didn't sell out immediately. There were reports that Sendai hotels were booking up in December.
You know, weren't there a lot more cities last summer for FaoI. Like eight or ten? And this year, only four - none near Tokyo? (MakuhariïŒ5.24-5.26 SendaiïŒ5.31-6.2 KobeïŒ6.7-6.9 ToyamaïŒ6.14-6.16) If that's true, I wonder why. Because it's what Yuzu wanted? I was thinking most of the men have some sort of special relationship with Yuzu - Plush, Weir, Buttle, Oda, Lambiel (who can forget their ballroom dance hold with the hand on the butt, not the back?)

R453 Every skater is a narcissist. Yuzuru as well
by Anonymous | reply 455 | May 12, 2019 1:24 PM |
But wouldn't sportscasting and hosting his own tv series be enough for your typical narcissist? He said it was hard - but how could it possibly be as hard as staying relevant in figure skating in the quad era? He had the looks, the poise, I mean, Oda is doing great - surely Dai could have surpassed him, if he'd just tried.

R454 it was 5 sites last year
Makuhari (May 25-27), Kanazawa (June 1-3), Kobe (June 15-17), Niigata (June 22-24) and Shizuoka (June 29-July 1).

by Anonymous | reply 458 | May 12, 2019 1:36 PM |
R457 Oh ok - I didn't remember very well. I guess the repeated dates in some cities had me confused that it was more places.
R458 I remember he 'said' something that really struck me - although I don't remember the exact words now lol. Something with the feel of: "It's a hell of a tough business - too tough for me!" And you've got a point - there's only one Oda. Zag said he was the funniest person in the world. And that's with the language barriers! He really is a delightful person.
by Anonymous | reply 459 | May 12, 2019 1:43 PM |
I think he announced before his special series had even finished that he wouldn't be continuing. But all the stuff he said could mean either thing - that he quit - or that he was fired and they didn't announce it that way, and he just said it wasn't the thing for him.
by Anonymous | reply 460 | May 12, 2019 1:46 PM |
seems PChiddy was able to overcome his narcissism and find a place for himself after competing. I appreciate the fact that Chan was able to actually speak positively about Hanyu after all these years. I wonder if itâs Daiâs personality or his agency that limits him from mentioning Yuzu in any way. Olympics was an exception.
by Anonymous | reply 461 | May 12, 2019 1:48 PM |
No one can be Oda in the business, being funny as an entertainer, also welcoming and nice to all his junior skaters on and off screen, and still be objective on their strengths and weaknesses as a commentator/reporter.
Dai is the better artist and more popular skater in his generation, but he can only wish he had that level of EQ skills.
by Anonymous | reply 462 | May 12, 2019 1:59 PM |
And of all the stars of his era, Johnny is the one who's announcing for NBC. Or is that more Tara's doing? In any case, the network had to approve of him. Who would have thunk it, all those years ago.

Dai's minders slipped up. Shizuka is even doing Yuzu's show - I don't think she did last year.
by Anonymous | reply 468 | May 12, 2019 2:58 PM |
R454 Five locations is the most they've ever done and that was last year. The average is 3-4, but there were years where they only went to one or two places. All of the skaters you named were popular long before Hanyu and with the exception of Buttle, joined FaOI before Hanyu became the top skater. Lambiel, Plushenko, and Weir have been part of the cast since it's iteration in 2010. For sure Fernandez and Nam were added because of their connection to Hanyu, but they joined in 2013 while Arakawa was still the MC. Hanyu is the main draw today, but it still isn't his show where he gets to call all of the shots.
R453 Takahashi was never a superstar. He became known to an extent after he medaled at the Olympics, but Mao was the superstar and Ando was and is more famous than him. Now Oda, too. Ladies skating was more popular during his time and while he was the most popular of the Japanese men, he competed against guys like Plushenko, Joubert, Weir, Lambiel, who all had a lot of fans in Japan.
R456 He's a terrible public speaker and could never surpass Oda. There's a reason why he was made a "sports navigator" and never a true sportscaster or commentator. He also felt he wasn't suited for that kind of work and didn't seem to enjoy it. He enjoys more creative and artistic projects, like interior decorating, and organizing theatrical ice shows and dance shows. But he's always struggled with his desire for fame and attention, and jealousy issues (which fueled some of his fans anti behavior) according to himself.
I'll answer other questions later.

by Anonymous | reply 473 | May 12, 2019 3:12 PM |
What agenda? He went and made himself look that way on TV. We're discussing why on earth he would do such thing. And he obviously has/had a problem with alcohol, that's no joke, I for one, hope he overcomes that soon.

473 JDC said Ando is more famous. I'm assuming that includes infamy, so while I was surprised to hear that at first, I can see it. I'm amazed you can read that account of what came straight from Dai's mouth and still think people criticizing him have an agenda. I loved/love his skating but he's really fucked himself over with this one. This was one of the less objectionable things he did but I can't help but think that Dai pretending to be straight must have looked and sounded 10xs more gross and desperate than it reads.

Perving over a 16-year-old might not be the best way to go back in the closet, after coming out. He's just weird, poor guy.
But I thought he was huge, too, and a lot of the stuff thrown at Yuzu in Sochi was originally intended for Dai? Like maybe not a star as a skater, a la Mao, but a sex object type idol for the ladies - who now tote their Poohs all over the planet -- the ones who aren't still pining for Dai - is that still a big group? maybe not but they sure are vocal (fanatical?)
by Anonymous | reply 477 | May 12, 2019 3:51 PM |
The details here are far far worse than any translation I've seen on Twitter. The specificity of his comments on Zag's body + how long he dwelled on it, his comments about Murakami's body, his behavior towards the adult model and comments on her body. The fangurls on my Twitter are lighting up over what they think is one comment, some of them even think this is what people do on Japanese shows and maybe it's not that bad in that context. Dai has the additional bad luck of this happening in the off-season, when little else is going on. I wonder how his PR people are going to handle this.

I'm not defending anything Dai did and said on that show. As far as I'm concerned most of it was questionable to gross and he dug his own grave then and there. He had enough attention, media interest, job offers, sponsors as well as an idol status in the eyes of younger skaters and a fan following of respectable size. He was able to sell tickets. This was a horrible, completely unnecessary move and I can't fathom what the fuck he/his PR team was thinking.
That said, it's not that far-fetched to believe he's into both genders. I remember him having a crush on a number of females throughout the years. Aya Ueto, Sarina Suzuki, CL, Meryl Davis. There were a few more whose names I can't recall. And judging from social media it seemed like he hooked up with a female classmate during his stint in NY. She didn't come across like a beard, because he never mentioned her on his ig account and she alluded to having a fling with him on hers in a relatively subtle way. They mostly went out in a group with two other girls but during a trip to Florida it seemed likely Dai and her shared a hotelroom. When he returned to Japan she wrote a cheesy love poem without mentioning his name but the timing gave away who it was intended for. Anyway you had to specifically go looking for her account or stumble onto it by clicking through several accounts of people he hung out with (which is what I did) to know about this at all.

R502 People taking that question seriously are fools. Whether she delivers like at Worlds or not, makes no difference. The judges decide the skill level of each skater and give out scores, not the other way around. Zags is currently the most perfect skater in the history of the COP era, her untouchable skill level decided by the judges just like Med before her. It just all depends on who Russia wants to push to Beijing.

I missed something when I skipped through the cooking portion of Takahashiâs segment on Merengue. He said he doesnât eat rice at dinner anymore because he gets his grains from alcohol instead.
R433 SkyCourt is targeting Takahashi fans, who may not have the funds, to invest in the condos and allow the company to manage and rent them out. They say you can replace your pension and life insurance with the potential income. But they have many complaints from buyers and renters, such as pushing high interest-rate loans, low to no returns, charging hidden monthly fees, poor management and building maintenance, etc. They also have high staff overturn, which likely contributes to some of those problems.
R475 Yes. Ando received a lot of media attention as a young skater for her quad and has been a tabloid darling since her teens. In fact, the paparazzi were far worse in the 2000s to Ando than theyâve ever been to Hanyu. You could say Ando was the first real celebrity skater. Everyone knew âMikittyâ (her nickname she shared with an idol from Morning Musume) even if theyâd never watched her skating and sheâs still the celeb everyone loves to hate today. Arakawa is also more known to the public than Takahashi thanks to her OGM, though sheâs not particularly popular. Everyone knows her ina bauer. It almost like a meme.
R473 Knew you couldnât resist. Any reason why you havenât posted about Merengue in his GS fanfest yet? Itâs so unlike you. And low and behold, you were also the one who always got upset about the Med ribbing, yet you like to do the same to other skaters yourself.

Dammit Takahashi. I actually like your skating.
But all of this make me respect Hanyu more. He's always good at handling the media and genuinely a nice person. I"m not saying he has no flaws. But I think he's an admirable young man.

Oh they did - but since that was in the last recap, I skipped it. They were defending their correct assertion (that Gogo's going to Raf) and saying that so many people told them they were full of b.s. That's when the Gabby thing came up but Dave got sidetracked and didn't finish his sentence dammit. something like "Gabby's going..." and then he wandered off subject - but soon after, he said something like, "Well, we sent Jason to Canada and they sent Gogo to us, so so what?" but it seemed related to his passing half-comment about Gabby. Guess I should have asked in the comments but like to stay anonymous. They didn't say anything substantive or new about Gogo being w/Raf though - just sort of crowing that they were right. Well, that Dave was right. That he hears things and sees things sometimes that ppl don't know about.

Fernandez is going to do a class at Ice Rink Sendai for beginners in grades 1-6.
Itâs blowing up. More news sites are reporting backlash to the Zagitova quiz from viewers. People are calling Takahashiâs words sexual harassment, criticizing the use and sexualizing of minors, accusing the show of discounting the hard work of female athletes.
Renho (@renho_sha), one of Japanâs most annoying but also one of Japanâs most recognizable politicians, retweeted a lawyer (@katepanda2) criticizing the Zagitova quiz and asked why no one at Merengue saw it was a problem. She has half a million followers, which might not seem like a lot, but the prime minister only has 1.3 million, and itâs been picked up by Daily Sports. https://twitter. com /renho_sha/status/1127660853300350976
I noticed the photo used for Zagitova was from GPF where sheâs wearing large bandages/tape over her knee, which makes me more convinced the segment really wasnât about anyoneâs legs or âpreferences,â but a very stupid and half-assed attempt to bring up the Russian girls, whoâll be appearing on TV and in ice shows in Japan this and next month. They couldnât bring them up during the bed-wetting and condo building talk, so they did it during the ideal women talk, and it gave them an excuse to show their photos (they revealed the full photos after Takahashi made his guesses), and perhaps Soka Gakkai has made the staff too stupid and creepy to realize just how inappropriate it was. But Takahashi made it worse with the gross butt and thigh comments.
R539 Thank you! Theyâve called Geâs Tosca âyuckâ and unsophisticated, then trashed the Seven Rings ex, and now this. I guess they donât plan to have him on the show again.
by Anonymous | reply 551 | May 13, 2019 9:16 AM |
R544 Thank you.
R477 He was a sex symbol to his fans and the gay community, but never became a huge star outside figure skating although the Olympics helped him achieve fame to some degree. In addition to being overshadowed by Mao, he was competing in recognition and popularity against the likes of Ichiro, Matsui, Ma-kun, Ryosuke Kitajima, Ryo Ishikawa, Yu Darvish, Keisuke Honda, Kohei Uchimura, Kei Nishikori, etc.
R533 I donât think itâs his intention to put anyone in debt. I think it was more about having the opportunity to design an apartment building and have his name and initial built into it. But he did sound quite shady when he was unveiling his building in January. At first, it sounded like usual sales-talk. He designed all of the exterior and interior of the building. Oh, heâd even like to live in it himself. Everything reflects his personal tastes... Maybe heâll buy one of the condos, too.
But then, on what heâd think of a woman who bought condos for investment, he said: âI've spent all my life skating and donât know much about regular society, so Iâd think sheâs really responsible and would probably protect/take care of me if she lived by me. Like, 'Sheâs so cool.' If a woman like that would live nearby, it'd give a man a sense of security. He could relax and do what he wants.â
Itâs the last two paragraphs:

Thanks JDC for your continuous updates on the dai saga! Tho i do wonder if the Merengue show have any incentives to promote the RUS girls that will be appearing in FaOI? Merengue belongs to NTV and NTV is the sponsor for Hyoen. The official hyoen account also tweeted about Dai and Kanakoâs appearance on the show. FaOI braodcasts are associated with asahi and fuji network, so I doubt the producers had the intention to promote them.
Upon checking the hyoen site on their ticket sales, I noticed the show dates for Hyoen (7.26-28) overlaps with the show dates for The ICE Osaka (7.27-28). Iâm quite surprise USM has both of its skaters headlining two ice different shows on the same weekend.

The other International events for the first half of August are
Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy (5-9th, in Hong Kong), The Tayside Trophy (9-13th, somehwere in Scotland) and NRW Summer Trophy (10-11th, in Durtmund).

R552 I don't think Dai intended to defraud anyone either. However, at best you can say he participated in a business venture targeting his fans without looking into the details of what he was selling them. And, as you are pointing out, he's allowing himself to be used/using himself as bait in a gross way (and in a way that's trying to hook the most delusional fans who think they can live next to him and protect him). Sometimes ill-intentioned people and careless people end up in the same place. And when you're a 33-year-old man, you have to take responsibility either way.

So Javi is expected to just give free charity classes for the rest of his life or else he is "opportunistic"? How do you think skaters are supposed to make a living after they retire? Or are you just being weirdly territorial because it is in Sendai?

On Takahashi and the shady business, a lot of celebs buy a business, let others run it, and just plaster their name over it to make it sell. If they get high-fives for the good even when they aren't doing much, then it makes sense they face the criticism too.

r560 duh, of course because its Sendai, targetting little kids who want to be like Yuzu in his hometown?? If he was doing the same in other FaOI locations, I might not consider this sooo opportunistic. I hope that is the case
r564 which post are you calling out?
by Anonymous | reply 565 | May 13, 2019 6:38 PM |
R565 I'm just talking about the same posts JDC is, but I'm not calling out anyone - I meant it sincerely. I love Dai's skating and am glad to have other Dai fans here; I'm also glad to have people who don't turn a blind eye to the fact that he's a real mess. I want him to get better. I think he's kind of lost and that's sad because his skating, even when he was injured and struggling was more enjoyable to watch than most of the men's field today.
I'm also kind of annoyed that his more crazy fans made it impossible for him and Hanyu to have any kind of on-ice relationship because the kind of feeling and beauty they bring to skating is all but lost in the quad era. Let this sink in: Nathan fucking Chen's PCS scores, including in performance and interpretation are HIGHER than Daisuke Takahashi's scores. Kill me now.

R551 Can't believe TSL has managed to make me feel sorry for Misha Ge. He's an annoying attention-whore, but he is also trying to make a living. One thing for us to make fun of him here, but TSL has an audience that includes his peers and future employers. They saw one public training session and are dragging his reputation based on that? Seems harsh. Anyway, I'm sure Misha will do something to make me hate him again.

Oh I misunderstood. There will be six training seminars by Brian/Tracy in China JUST THIS YEAR, in preparation for the Olys, the next one in May.
I was thinking that didn't sound like enough. Who knows how often they'll go in 2020 and 2021. I haven't seen Brian skating that much, in a while. I've been worried about his health. Maybe he's ok. (lay off the rot gut, ok Bri? You can't drink like you did in your 30s and 40s)

Now I'm trying to remember - I type stuff up as they talk and by necessity have to leave a lot out or my stupid summaries would be wayyy too long. I 'think' Dave threw in there "This is just the part that I saw." But WHY make such a big deal of how useless the class was if he only saw a few minutes? It definitely seemed intended to diss Misha (and hell, even worse for Gracie - she was just "standing around") And he tends to be - or pretend to be - sympathetic towards Gracie, through her struggles (and god he hates Vincent Restencourt (sp?) - even more than Tom Z, if that's possible, implying all sort of legal/sexual shenanigans in Europe that Vincent supposedly ran away from)

R571 big bitchfight with Zueva. Zueva won and got the rink manager to dismiss Shpilband. Epic Ice Drama of that summer as many top teams were training there.

Shpilband is a boring choreographer. He is supposed to be the technician. Indeed, he used to be good for his teams to get the levels. Mind you, some would say his teams got the levels when there were certain technical specialists on the panel (Ponomarenko, Dostatni).

R553 BS NTV and CTV (NTV affiliate) broadcast The Ice, which is an IMG show. CTV sponsors the Nagoya shows. Merengue is a NTV show that broadcasts on CTV in Chubu. Kose sponsors Dreams on Ice, a CIC show, which is held at the Kose Shin-Yokohama Skate Center. Kose is Merengueâs main sponsor. FaOI is a CIC show. Both Zagivota (whoâs appearing in all ice shows) and Med (represented by IMG and doing a CIC show) also filmed some shows the last time they were in Japan that havenât aired yet, so there may be more connections.
Hyoen is held in Yokohama, so there wonât be any overlap with The Ice Osaka.
R561 is correct. Fernandezâs Sendai class is sponsored by Mitsui Fudosan Realty (FaOI Sendaiâs platninum sponsor) and in honor of FaOI Sendai. Itâs only an hour and for about 50 kids. No participation fees are listed.

Q: Alina Zagitova in one word?/A: hard worker
Q: Liza Tuktamysheva in one word?/A: happy. she does not bother about insignificant things. I'm learning this from her
Q: Yuzuru Hanyu in one word?/A: winnie the pooh
Q: why everyone say you are a couple, ship you?/A: zhenya explains what ship is. I don't know, it is not mainstream anymore.... out of fashion to ship me with him... The host: oh it is so cool, I ship you now too!!! Zhenya: I'm so used to fans trying to find me a husband or a boyfriend that I get to notice that and think sometimes: why not? R595 This year's show is only the 2nd installment. She didn't do it last time and she obviously won't be invited as long as Arakawa is part of the cast.
R956 Dai invited Mao to Christmas on Ice in 2014 and skated a saccharine duet with her. She was invited again in 2017 but because she had other obligations she only stuck to choreographing a number for her sister and attended the last show as a spectator. Dai also said he'd love to start an ice theater company with her.
They used to be friends. I wonder what she thinks of him now after his embarrassing PR stunt.
