New theme for ninth season announced.
This will be the first season Evan Peters sits out.
Emma Roberts will play the lead. Supposedly the show will make reference to many 80s slasher films.

I hope Emma plays a bitchy popular girl! It would be such a stretch for her.

Evan Peters is what made the show pop. It will be too dull without him.

Paulson now as well. It's the beginning of the end, I think. Especially with that horrid creature Roberts playing the lead.

Wow, the trades are fighting like cats.
Deadline has heard that Emmy winner Sarah Paulson isn’t completely sitting out on American Horror Story: 1984, she’ll just have a smaller part in the upcoming season of the FX series as she takes on the lead role in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series Ratched.

Every season starts strong and then falls apart, but I like the idea of this one.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 8, 2019 8:42 PM |
Emma Roberts? Though her character was the best in Murphy's Scream Queens. I guess he makes a more serious version of SQ at AHS: 1984 and maybe even try to give it a bit of a Stranger Things spin. Though he did produce a pretty decent slasher flick a couple of years back.

Oh just kill the shit, it is just awful now
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 8, 2019 9:18 PM |
I don't feel like I'm that stressed on how good it'll be because there's no way it'll top AHS: Asylum and I'm okay with that, but casting Gus Kenworthy doesn't bode well. I hope he dies in the first episode.

Isn't Lady Fuckface also supposed to be returning?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 8, 2019 11:19 PM |
R9 Fuckface, return, to 'television'. She is too big a movie star now to slum on TV
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 8, 2019 11:43 PM |
Ugh, Emma Roberts as the lead? She is really not that talented.
I have a feeling this season will be terrible, but copious Gus Kenworthy nudity will get us to watch.

I honestly do hope so. When they tried to have to play a different character type in Freakshow it was horrible. She needs to stick to her bitchy character.

Emma Roberts was a riot in Scream Queens. Shit actress though.

The first season of Scream Queens was brilliant. I think 1984 will be similar, but scary instead of funny/scary.

I can't wait to sit out of another season!

Taylor Swift was in Scream Queens? Did she die first or something?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 9, 2019 4:26 AM |
Stranger Things already captured '80s horror/scifi. There have been dozens of cinematic homages to the '80s for years. This will not be at all original, just gory, and everyone will die.

Still Ryan Murphy, despite his new deal with Netflix. Hence the pay bump.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 10, 2019 7:46 PM |
Strange that the actors would rebel against Murphy getting a pay raise.
He has basically been their "bread and butter" for the past five-plus years.
Paulson and Evans, in particular.
Seems a bit disloyal, if you ask me.

I think Murphy being busy with other projects creates friction with the actors who don't know where they stand with him and his show / shows / projects and, when they are in a position to do so, rather quit than feel like he's playing mind-games with them.

Let's be honest: AMERICAN HORROR STORY has always been a lame show and now Ryan Murphy is copycatting STRANGER THINGS.
Don't tell me this incarnation of AHS would have happened if it weren't for ST and the video game of FRIDAY THE 13th that hit a couple of years ago.
Murphy is the real vampire here. Someone so shallow and greedy that he has no time for writing or authoring truly original work or ensuring quality for any, one show. So you see him biting other people's work.
You see him renting material for GLEE from the musicians with the real talent who wrote the songs and earned the public's love. You see him adapting classic plays. You see him taking advantage of a true feud between classic, Hollywood divas who earned their popularity without him, in an industry that just LOVES stories about themselves and awards them. You see Murphy jumping on the STRANGER bandwagon.
A real namedropper/biter/parasite/hanger-on if you ask me. What's so great about his artwork or his lame writers?
He's one of those shallow gays who thinks he can be fabulous by proxy and I ain't down wit it.

There is a novel called My Best Friend's Exorcism which is set during the 80s satanic panic. It's been optioned for a film.
Missed opportunity. Stupid fuck should have brought back the 80s satanic panic.
Apparently Murphy planned for the second season of Scream Queens to take place in a summer camp, but then all of a sudden The former Lost and Once Upon A Time creators announced their new show Dead of Summer. That show also featured 80s flashbacks and a satanic cult. Murphy had to scamble and shelved his summer camp idea and came up with the hospital theme for SC's season two.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 12, 2019 2:55 PM |
That Dead of Summer show was a hard flop.
A bit OT, but I wish there would have been a sequel to that Taissa Farmiga movie The Final Girls. That was a good tribute type movie to 80s horror movies.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | July 12, 2019 4:30 PM |
No, FINAL GIRLS was neither funny nor scary. It was trying to be both.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 12, 2019 4:47 PM |
Thanks for informing me about the Dead of Summer series. It came out right when the makers of the Friday the 13th video game were doing their Kickstarter campaign and designing.
Coincidence that both Dead of Summer and the video game had a Stillwater Camp?

Alexander Dreymon is the lead in The Last Kingdom which is in its fourth season.

by Anonymous | reply 70 | July 13, 2019 11:54 AM |
Leslie Grossman is probably playing the camp owner and I'm guessing Matthew Morrison's character will be her husband. She'll probably end up being the wife who turns a blind eye to her husband's perversions.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | July 13, 2019 3:28 PM |
That DEAD OF SUMMER garbage was NOT scary. It was FRIDAY THE 13th 90210.
Total soap opera for young women. Just a typical CW-type soap that steals from everything from TWILIGHT to M. Night Shyamalan's THE VILLAGE, as if these were worthy of copying.
KILL IT WITH FIRE!

Oh please. There's nothing new about recycling ideas in Hollywood. The Stranger Things showrunners themselves were accused of stealing the very idea behind Stranger Things. Right before it went to trial this May the plaintiff withdrew the suit, since he was possibly paid off behind the scenes. One might just as easily say the Duffer brothers borrowed the idea of an 80s themed show from Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse which went into development in 2013. That would be just as silly as saying that AHS is using 80s because of Stranger Things. Not saying it isn't partly true, though, but let's be realistic about how everything from the past always reappears at some point. Strangers Things has been extremely successful in portraying the 80s but let's not forget AHS has done nostalgia quite well from the very first episode five years before Stranger Things was released. And I say all this as someone who is not exactly a fan of AHS.
BTW, who else besides you even knows a Friday the 13th video game came out a couple of years ago?

R75 For real. Granted, they were both high as fuck when the fight happened. I don't doubt for a second that Peters is avoiding AHS because Roberts has been such a bad influence on him. Her reputation is trash.

Looks so bad. The last two seasons have been crap. It was so good for about the first 4 seasons. No Evan Peters this season. Not too sad about Sarah. My cousin was a makeup artist on there.I remember him telling me about how Emma Roberts beat the s*** out of Evan Peters. And when Sarah would come into the makeup trailer no one was allowed speak to her. She wanted complete silence. It's the end of the road for the show
by Anonymous | reply 89 | July 15, 2019 2:26 AM |
Misstanya, which seasons did your cousin work on? And what did s/he mean by "beat the shit out of him"? Did anyone else in the AHS cast attempt to intervene?
I have also heard that Paulson has gotten a bit big for her britches. She used to be friendly with crew and now only has time for other actors. I think she's brilliant, and apparently she's very nice to fans, but what a shame.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | July 15, 2019 2:33 AM |
It was the coven season. Evan looked really roughed up in the makeup chair. He told my cousin, he and Emma had got into a huge fight. Of course they didn't do anything she's Julia Roberts niece. And she continues to be on the show. my cousin doesn't work on there anymore he said the energy was getting really negative. Sarah is terrible. The cameramen are only allowed to shoot her from certain angles.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | July 15, 2019 2:49 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 94 | July 15, 2019 2:55 AM |

Say what you will about later seasons, Peters was a tour de force in Cult.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | July 15, 2019 2:59 AM |
R91 So Peters just plopped down in the makeup chair and told the makeup artist that his super famous girlfriend beat him up?
LOL. Good one. Roberts definitely beat the shit out of him, but there's no way he was telling people on set.
Paulson's time was over, anyway. I don't get the stanning for her. Asylum was her best work. Everything after that was just a watered down version of Lana Winters. Without strong actors this season is going to suck, but hopefully it will still be entertaining.

I've been wanting an AHS: Bathhouse season for forever, you get a monster killing people as a nice metaphor for the AIDS crisis. It writes itself.

Over/under on Gus secrelty cheating on Emma with Matt.

R84, I agree. The Final Girls was actually quite sweet and moving. I even cried during that Bette Davis Eyes scene. It was like a horror comedy Field of Dreams. Wasn't expecting that.
I'm sure Murphy wishes he could do something like that, but this'll just be an excuse to put boys in short shorts and tube socks and have girls wear wacky hairstyles and be sassy. Besides Asylum and moments of Freakshow, Murphy's always seemed too scared to actually venture into real horror territory.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | July 15, 2019 5:15 PM |
I would expect this season to be especially campy, I mean as has been pointed out this was originally a Scream Queens concept that has been repurposed for AHS.

Maybe I am the only one, but I am psyched about the season to start. Looks like Murphy got that 80s slasher fic style right visually. But it does look more Scream Queens (horror comedy) than American Horry Story (film & TV legendary divas love fest).
The Television Academy announced on Tuesday that because AHS: Apocalypse contained “continuing story threads, characters and actors reprising those same character roles from previous seasons” — specifically the Murder House, Coven and Hotel installments — it is being “re-categorized” from the Limited Series category to Drama Series.

AHS teasers are always the best thing about AHS. If only the season itself could be like Murphy's lookbook.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | July 29, 2019 7:07 PM |
What ruins AHS are the high expectations. With a guy like Gus Kenworthy you can't expect 100% Emmy entertainment. If you can't let go and enjoy the bumpy, campy ride you will feel anger and frustration, because you over-analize things and feel the need to compare every single detail with real life or previous AHS seasons. And then it becomes hate-watching and sharing that hate on social media including DataLounge.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | July 29, 2019 7:19 PM |
I think Gus's character will be the dumb jock and not many people will care about his acting. I bet his character dies a few episodes in.

Ryan Murphy has wanted to do a "Friday, the 13th" camp theme for awhile now. It was rumored to be the theme for the 2nd season of Scream Queens, but they scrapped it when MTV came out with a Friday the 13th series around the same time.

Murphy really needs to redo [italic]The Creature from the Black Lagoon[/italic] -- except instead of having a hard-on for Julie Adams or some other pointy-titted cupcake, he is a homosexual creature, attracted to human males, and carries off some twink, his huge spiked penis jutting out in anticipation of getting the twink back to the cave ....
by Anonymous | reply 134 | July 29, 2019 7:49 PM |
R131, agreed; I feel the trailers do their job of hyping up the series to come, then by episode 5, we're usually slacking off on watching due to the (lack of) quality, actors phoning it in, etc.
Perhaps I speak for myself, but I suffer through the whole series simply because I want it to end.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | July 29, 2019 8:22 PM |
You have to love the creativity of the FX marketing department. This is clever.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | July 29, 2019 9:16 PM |
What's really enjoyable about AHS isn't the actual episodes, it's the build up. The teasers are always full of easter eggs and clues. The fun is matching up the clues in the teasers with the actual episodes. The cast announcement trailer has people speculating that the show revolves around a Friday the 13th style movie being filmed.
Things from the cast announcement that stick out:
Why is Leslie Grossman first seen in a counselor uniform then a nightgown with her hair in pig tails? What is Deron Horton looking for in that one clip where he's searching all his pockets? Why are all the characters walking to the pink tape on the floor used for blocking on sets?

The Duffer Brothers were the FIRST to revive '80s-era Stephen King/Spielberg and start the whole trend.
Murphy is just hopping on the Stranger Bandwagon now, knocking off their show.
And at least the Duffer Brothers are authors who write their own, coherent material that compel audiences and critics. At least they focus on one show and invest quality in its stories. Murphy's writers-for-hire are just cheap copycats that nobody loves. Just look at the difference in success of the shows.
Almost nobody loves AHS.

Murder on a movie set has been done plenty of times and that's okay. It's all about what you do with it.
Unfortunately, AHS doesn't do anything cool.

r146 here. My point was that AHS has already done it before, on the Roanoke season.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | July 31, 2019 4:23 PM |
Roanoke had a Blair Witch vibe to it. 1984 is going to have a Friday the 13th/Nightmare on Elm Street vibe. It's clearly going to play on horror movie tropes and stereotypes. That's going to be so much more fun than Roanoke. I'm all in.

I think Sarah Paulson will probably as Lana Winters doing interviews with the survivors in the aftermath of the camp murders.
Lana's son Johnny could be tied in somehow with this season. He would be 21 or 22 in 1984 and maybe he hangs around the camp and knows the killer.

What Ruins AHS is Murphy's writing - he always starts off brilliant and puts out 10-20 storyline threads and either ties them all up in the last one or two episodes or just forgets about them. Literally describes every Murphy show.
I didn’t know what Roanoke was because I stopped following AHS after the third, boring episode.
Roanoke was probably the best season they had since S2. It was also the season Ryan Murphy decided there would be zero spoilers or promo which hurt it tremendously. He didn't even want people to know who the cast would be until it aired. He tossed that right out the window the following season.
The show starting out as one of those "Haunted" reenactment shows was brilliant if you've seen them before. They nailed it. Then having the cast of the "reenactment" and the original characters they were playing both come together for the second half of the season was a nice twist.
It was the last time Lady Gaga appeared on the show. Matt Bomer did an uncredited voice over in one of the final episodes of that season and he never came back. Wes Bentley popped up for the last time. Same with Dennis O'Hare & Finn Wittrock. Angela Bassett wasn't planning on coming back again after that season but they nabbed her for a last minute cameo in one of the final episodes of Apocalypse since people were complaining that she wasn't there.
It was the swan song for many of the actors from before.

The fashions are too over-the-top. Nobody dressed like Cody Fern in the '80s unless they were an actual pop musician.
Ditto for Billie Lourd's character. I realize Samantha Fox and Ah-Ha were icons at this time. But ordinary camp counselors didn't dress like them.
G.L.O.W. and STRANGER THINGS do the '80s period and nostalgia better.
by Anonymous | reply 188 | August 31, 2019 9:09 PM |
1984/1985 was when the 80's was just starting to come into its own. For most of the first part of decade, a lot of the fashions and hairstyles still looked really 70s. Just look at some of those early 80's slasher movies.
I wasn't big on Scream Queens, so I'm a little concentred that Murphy is going to try and recreate that vibe, which would be awful. It had a few amusing lines of dialogue here and there, but it got old quickly.

by Anonymous | reply 196 | September 2, 2019 1:17 AM |
Loude has some great talent as a comedienne. She was hysterical in Booksmart this summer, but I'm not sure if using her in a horror series is the best use of her talents unless she's playing the comic relief. Roberts is the same. She only comes to life when playing vapid bitches. When they try to make her the good girl next door, she doesn't register on screen.
Sarah Paulson actually has legitimate talent, though, but she and Ryan do need to take a little tiny break from each other. It's getting a little insane. Even Jessica Lange stepped away for a bit.

by Anonymous | reply 283 | September 19, 2019 4:54 AM |
AHS has already sacrificed being actually scary, being original, and being well written. The only thing it has left is its bottomless fountain of male nudity. If it loses that too you can catch me leading the charge of trying to get AHS cancelled.
by Anonymous | reply 284 | September 19, 2019 5:10 AM |
Morrison's bulge made no sense. It looked like he was wearing a cup, but exaggerated.
by Anonymous | reply 285 | September 19, 2019 5:20 AM |
It really is a shell of the quality show it used to be. The writing is cringy. But maybe that's the point, considering it's a tribute to 80s slasher films which were rarely masterpieces.
by Anonymous | reply 286 | September 19, 2019 5:22 AM |
Ugh. Total copycat season of 80's horror movies.
Why didn't they just stitch together parts of Halloween and Friday the 13th, dub in some random 80's music, and call it "AHS 1984."
Same thing.
Most unoriginal season of AHS ever.
by Anonymous | reply 287 | September 19, 2019 5:51 AM |
Fucking hell, Emma Roberts is an anorexic mess.
The dark hair and weird styling make her look even worse than usual.
Maybe they wanted her to be a version of Karen Carpenter, to keep with the 80's theme.
by Anonymous | reply 288 | September 19, 2019 5:58 AM |
Unless Murphy decides to make a scene starring Kenworthy and Morrison paying homage to this, I won’t be watching.

by Anonymous | reply 290 | September 19, 2019 5:59 AM |
80s slashers were low budget, horribly acted and had fantastic, synth driven soundtracks. So far, the show is hitting it out of the park.
by Anonymous | reply 291 | September 19, 2019 6:30 AM |
I agree they've got the look and the dialogue down perfectly, but I'm not sure why. It's not like those 80s slasher films were wonderful (they weren;t--they were almost all terrible), or that this replicating their style serves much of a purpose.
Gus Kenworthy has the perfect face for the era--the Neanderthal brow in particular.
They do keep getting little things wrong. "Miami Vice" did not start airing until September 1984, but the show takes place in early summer 1984, so there's almost no chance Xavier would be wearing pastel blazers with the sleeves rolled up over a pastel tee shirt before then.
I'm surprised by how likeable Emma Roberts is as a virgin. She's so unpleasant when she plays the bitch most of the time for Ryan Murphy.
by Anonymous | reply 292 | September 19, 2019 6:41 AM |
I can't tell if Matthew Morrison hit a wall or if it's just the terrible rug and fake mustache that make him look so terrible.
I'm sure that was a stunt butt, btw.
It's pretty funny the DeRon Howard character is doing coke in nearly every scene.
by Anonymous | reply 293 | September 19, 2019 6:59 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 296 | September 19, 2019 7:57 AM |
The AHS hacks seem to think that supporting the actors with an awesome 80's cache of music, will somehow improve the shit writing and acting.
Classic distraction technique. "Let's WOW them with the music, and maybe they'll forget about all of the inconsistencies in our 80's period piece, the horrible acting, and the CRAP writing! At least we've got good music!"
Fucking twats.
by Anonymous | reply 297 | September 19, 2019 8:29 AM |
Why did FX give this horrible show NINE seasons, but it gave "The Strain" (which was a far superior horror genre show) only four seasons?
That makes no fucking sense.
The people who make this show are just PHONING IT IN at this point, and collecting a paycheck.
There is nothing worse than prolonging a show, that is WAY past its expiration date.
by Anonymous | reply 298 | September 19, 2019 8:31 AM |
I enjoyed the first episode. I don't know what all of you are complaining about. Why don't you tune in to Chicago Fire, Chicago PD or Chicago Med if you want something more "original"?

by Anonymous | reply 300 | September 19, 2019 1:04 PM |
I enjoyed the episode but I wish they were taking it more seriously. You can have fun with the slasher tropes, but they are leaning to close to parody. It's unfortunately more like "Scream Queens" then "Harper's Island".
by Anonymous | reply 301 | September 19, 2019 1:15 PM |
The asylum escape was also an homage to Halloween. By the way the acting is so atrocious the twist has to be this is a movie they are shooting and not happening in real time (even if the series is set in 1984).
Even the night stalker's acting was laugh out loud bad.
by Anonymous | reply 302 | September 19, 2019 1:17 PM |
My guess is that the Leslie Grossman character is either the killer, or in cahoots with the killer.
**SO obvious**
This is the weakest cast in all seasons of AHS.
I miss all the old timers.
by Anonymous | reply 303 | September 19, 2019 1:20 PM |
If the producers are giving out hints for plot teists, wouldn’t the most twist-y thing be that there is no such twist this season? The guy run over and the fundie camp founder are both ghosts who never survived the attack. This is just a straight up ghost story with gore.
OTOH if there is a twist, I think movie set might be a good one as the cast were styled way too stock character cheesy for real life 80s. The only movie recently that really got the 80s style down was Bumblebee (yes, that Transformers reboot) and the movie was surprisingly good. But judging from last night’s episode AHS producers are going strictly for cheesy 80s instead of authenticity.

I didn't think Gus was that bad, amazingly. The story execution so far, however, is a train wreck. I'm not holding my breath for anything groundbreaking or overly satisfying but will watch anyway I guess. I like campiness as much as the next queen, but I wish AHS would/could deliver true scares like the first couple of seasons.
by Anonymous | reply 306 | September 19, 2019 1:58 PM |
Scream Queens was terrible, but this isn't that bad yet. Emma can't do non-bitchy characters. At all.

by Anonymous | reply 309 | September 19, 2019 3:13 PM |
That was one of the worst AHS episodes I have ever seen and definitely the worst AHS season opener. No tension and no interesting camerawork. Look at "The Cabin in the Woods" on how to do an effective foreshadowing at the gas station that makes your skin crawl. If you're going to parody '80s slashers, either really lean into it, or add an extra layer of commentary. Simply remaking it - and really badly, at that - holds no interest for me.
Gus can't act and he looks like a chimp with that wig.
by Anonymous | reply 310 | September 19, 2019 3:13 PM |
Cody Fern, Emma Roberts and Billie Lourd must be happy. Sharing scenes with Gus Kenworthy really makes them look more talented than they are. But he is nice eye candy and that is really all he needs to be.
Though I do appreciate that Roberts and Lourd are playing against type. I was sick of that monotone line delivered from Lourd. Though writers, obsessively masturbating to the bulge of a background dancer is definitely a gay guy thing rather than a girl thing.
This episode was just fluff, popcorn entertainment. I am okay with that. Curious where the season is going to go, there obviously has to be some big "twists" plotwise to fill a whole season.
by Anonymous | reply 311 | September 19, 2019 3:16 PM |
I think Billie Lourd always being monotone worked in Scream Queens, and it was fine for Cult and I think it works with this character.
by Anonymous | reply 312 | September 19, 2019 3:18 PM |
R298 Strain was only going to be 3-5 seasons to begin with. Producer Carlton Cuse wanted to mimic the trilogy of books in some way. Anything over 5 seasons would have been too much.

I’m pretty sure Cody Ferns character is supposed to be gay and I think it’s fan fiction that everyone not female is hanging around him with zero issue in 1984. Emma Roberts small town virgin character also.
by Anonymous | reply 316 | September 19, 2019 3:25 PM |

The reason Morrison’s characters big cock looks weird is because all the other prosthetics used to make it super visible were denied by censors so they had to use whatever they’re using now, where the crotch looks crowded but there’s no VPL.

If it is what was used in the promo, I am having a hard time thinking of more graphic alternatives.
by Anonymous | reply 326 | September 19, 2019 4:00 PM |
My theory is - The hiker was another survivor, he came to find out for himself they re-opened the camp. His wounds were fresh so who ever did it to him could not have been Mr. Jingles. I am guessing Leslie Grossman or the cook. My guess is Mr. JIngles is not the killer, he got framed. The cook is the killer and Leslie is her daughter, she cut off her daughter's ear to frame Mr. Jingles.
by Anonymous | reply 327 | September 19, 2019 4:33 PM |
r327 correction - the Hiker is just a hiker, he got attacked and left for dead. Escaped only to get hit by the crew and brought back to the camp. Leslie and mom kill him, Mr. Jingles escapes to get his revenge when he sees Leslie has re-opened the camp.
by Anonymous | reply 328 | September 19, 2019 4:35 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 329 | September 19, 2019 4:39 PM |
R321 But the guy who was hit by the van had old blood AND he was dressed like a hippie from 1970, the year that the massacre took place. He also seemed to suffer some kind of memory lapse, as evidenced by his being reminded that he had lost a year from being killed. Then when Emma Roberts sees him dead and strung on the wall, it sort of reminds of her being caught up in a time warp, like she saw how he was killed back in 1970. Also, are we sure the fundie camp lady is alive? She may be a ghost and her vision of remaining calm while Mr. Jingles cut her ear off was something else other than religious experience.

by Anonymous | reply 338 | September 19, 2019 5:39 PM |
My thought on a possible twist was that, due to the focus on Morrison's prodigious appendage, it might be the flip side of the one in "Sleepaway Camp".
But they could never get away with that in this day and age, could they?
by Anonymous | reply 339 | September 19, 2019 5:45 PM |
Some of you people need to brush up on your slasher flicks. They're pulling on every available trope, and having fun with it. Feels like there's a sort of determination among some to hate this season. To me, it feels fresher than previous seasons. I'm enjoying it.
by Anonymous | reply 340 | September 19, 2019 5:45 PM |
Someone mentioned on Facebook that Hawthorne Hospital (where Nurse Rita came from) might be connected to the Hawthorne School for baby warlocks. AHS doesn't name things randomly, so it's an interesting theory.
by Anonymous | reply 341 | September 19, 2019 5:52 PM |
It would be funny if it was a group of slashers who all don't know each other are slashers. The nurse is the trans actress from Pose so could be the Sleepaway Camp angle, the Cook could be the mom from Friday the 13th,..I still think Grossman's character had something to do with it and JIngels is not THE killer, just a killer. He filles the Mike Myers Halloween role
by Anonymous | reply 342 | September 19, 2019 6:12 PM |
The show's just painting by numbers, r291.
FRIDAY THE 13th opened with an evil murder flashback from a prior generation. The first three also had the Old Timer who warns the victims away from the haunted location, which became a meme in horror flicks.
by Anonymous | reply 343 | September 19, 2019 7:01 PM |

r304, you need to see STRANGER THINGS and G.L.O.W.

Yes, Michael Myers even released the other inmates in the asylum when he escaped, too.
by Anonymous | reply 347 | September 19, 2019 7:39 PM |
r330, I like your theory that hitchhiker kid is a ghost.
But F.Y.I., lots of hippies were still hanging around, dressing like that in the '80s. In fact, the "Van full of slasher victims almost runs over a vagrant in the middle of the canyon road" incident originally happened in FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3. And that movie featured a hippie character named Chuck, who was a cheap ripoff of Tommy Chong, who was still making hippie stoner movies in the '80s with Cheech & Chong.

So I watched the first three seasons of American Horror Story. Ultimately I thought they descended in quality as they went along, but I did love the first season, enjoyed a significant portion of the second, and thought the third was campy, but ultimately alright. I haven't seen a single season since because I could feel the drop off in quality.
Is 1984 worth watching? The 80s slasher aesthetic does intrigue me, but... I don't know... would you say it's worth watching? Thanks!

That NeverEnding Story scene was... Jesus Christ was that indulgent, especially since it happens smack dab in the middle of the tension-filled climax and the joke lasts for way too long. That Dustin actor's a legitimate singer though, so perhaps they wanted to finally showcase that skill, but the cost might've been too great methinks.

80s slasher films like Halloween, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street aren't niche films... they're huge. So huge that they spawned post modern takes on the genre like Scream. It's no surprise that American Horror Story's attempting to take on the genre.
I f the only people who can appreciate this season of AHS are people who have seen 80s slasher movies, that’s a pretty small group.
Too bad nobody has seen Friday the 13th, Friday the 13th Part 2, Friday the 13th 3D, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Friday the 13th: A New Beginning , Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, Jason X, Freddy vs. Jason, & Friday the 13ththe remake.
Now lets do A Nightmare on Elm Street.....

Slasher films were cheap to make and made money. The original Friday the 13th had no hockey mask or 9 foot tall Jason. It was his mother killing all the camp counselors. It was only the ending where decomposing Jason jumped out of the water that it moved into the supernatural.
'American Horror Story: 1984' Labeled 'Snoozefest' After Season Premiere
The "American Horror Story" fandom has spoken and its not into "1984."
During the season 9 premiere of "AHS: 1984" on Wednesday, fans wasted no time slamming the slasher-themed show.
"AHS" has a huge cult-like following, so Ryan Murphy might want to listen up to what fans are saying on Twitter.
Many of them were unimpressed with last night's first episode.
"First episode of #AHS84 was a bit of a snoozefest for me tbh. Dragging out the same old horror tropes and cliches isn't going to keep me interested," one person wrote.
The show is supposed to pay homage to cheaply made horror movies like "Halloween" and "Friday the 13th" from the decade, but that might not be enough to keep viewers invested.
"#AHS84 was so bad it has to be on purpose??? pls tell me this is all joke," a twitter user wrote.
But not everyone's giving up hope.
"Thoughts about #AHS84 : so far, some things are a little cheesy (which I get is the point) and not my fav season but I also said that about Roanoke and I ate my words real quick," stated another. "I will say, I can no longer watch that show by myself in an empty house pls help."
It's not just the theme that has fans saying "ugh," but some are critiquing newcomer Gus Kenworthy as well.
Fans unleashed on Olympic skier after he made his series debut as Chet Clancy.
"Is anyone really suprised at how terrible at acting Gus Kentworthy was? I mean even in his sport interviews he's dull. Like watching paint dry," a hater wrote.
"I feel like I’m watching a bad gay porn. Gus Knworthy is a horrible actor," someone else chimed in.

Hahahahah Cody was pandering, the tricky slut, he will be another Nico and be gender queer bisexual, whilst married to a woman. He still cannot act.
I gave up on AHS after Season 2. Would watch the pilots of the rest, and they never grabbed me. Actually will keep watching after last night, just because it was so directionless, it was played so straight and just followed all the genre rules, and the actors felt cheap. But will watch again.
This is my fav slash and stalk film, which is seldom talked about. Spoilers, the killer was the nerd who spent the entire film in drag, CAMP

by Anonymous | reply 395 | September 20, 2019 2:16 PM |
Yes, as a serial killer ghost on Devil's night...there was a certain level of fantasy.
But using Ramirez as a Satan worshipping killer, exactly as he was in real-life, in the campy context of the show is, to me, kind of tasteless.

Every single year we get the haters invading these threads going on and on about how horrible it is, how everyone hates it, how the ratings suck, how Murphy is a hack, etc...YET HERE WE ARE 9 SEASONS LATER....AND YOU KEEP COMING BACK SPOUTING THE SAME SHIT.

Satan was a big theme in Apocalypse, R396. And since when is Murphy known for taste and not camp? You must be new.
by Anonymous | reply 398 | September 20, 2019 5:25 PM |
R366, this is what has me worried, too. Slasher flicks are fun for an hour and a half, but to have 10 whole episodes dedicated to a story that, so far, seems like a mash up of Friday the 13th, The Burning, Halloween, and Sleepaway Camp doesn't sound like it's going to be able to withstand 10 episodes. Then again, have any AHS seasons been able to withstand more than 5 episodes before getting boring or directionless?
Bringing in Richard Ramirez was an idiotic decision. Ryan Murphy seems to have a hard on for serial killers and shoehorning them into stories that don't need them. Didn't he bring a bunch of real life serial killers into Hotel and people got their panties in a bunch?
by Anonymous | reply 399 | September 20, 2019 5:41 PM |
I thought it was good fun, but I almost always feel that way about a few episodes of this show every season. I'm sure there will be some high highlights and some very low lowlights throughout. It does seem like a fool's errand to basically make 10 different slasher films all season. Most slasher films barely have enough substance to fill 45 minutes, so this could get tedious fast.
It would be hilarious if they ended up killing everyone off in episode 2 and then each episode after that is more like a sequel. You can have someone else open a camp across the lake (like Friday the 13th Part 2), have some horny vacationers stopping off at a family cabin (like 3) and have a young kid and his/her family coming into contact with the killer (like The Final Chapter). That'd be kinda funny.
by Anonymous | reply 400 | September 20, 2019 5:45 PM |
They're obviously going to fill time with 1) the soft porn angle 2) Exploring red herrings, because we're already meant to suspect Mr. Jingles, Margaret Christian Bitch and RIchard Ramirez plus 3) Campy nostalgia, ideas courtesy of STRANGER THINGS/ KUNG FURY.
I'm game for the gay porn but I won't respect this show in the morning.
by Anonymous | reply 401 | September 20, 2019 6:09 PM |
I find it amusing that people are claiming that some of the ideas were stolen from Stranger Things...a show thats only a few years old, who stole ideas from a genre thats over 40 years old.
by Anonymous | reply 402 | September 20, 2019 6:15 PM |
BECAUSE STRANGER THINGS STARTED THE TREND ON TV OF BRINGING "40 YEARS OLD" BACK!
In this way! With the Retrowave soundtrack and vintage V.H.S. and 16mm damaged look! Nobody did that on purpose to a wide audience until KUNG FURY and STRANGER THINGS!
God, r402 is a dunce. There's an original period, then there's a modern trend of bringing that period back, dummy!
This is the caliber of AMERICAN HORROR STORY fans, and this is why I stopped watching in the first season ...
by Anonymous | reply 403 | September 20, 2019 6:48 PM |
That relative complacency carries over from the script's low-hanging-fruit references to genre progenitors like Friday the 13th, A Bay of Blood and Halloween. There are hints of cleverness in the dialogue, but just hints. It's only in the Night Stalker stuff, perhaps fodder for a Quentin Tarantino-esque rewrite of history, that I got much hope for anything fresh. The idea that the season might use the pretty young counselors as a Trojan horse for some sort of Mr.-Jingles-versus-The-Night-Stalker mashup might be the only thing keeping me interested for future American Horror Story: 1984 episodes. And even that might not be enough.

Stranger Things does not own 80s nostalgia. Sure, the success of Stranger Things has reinvigorated it but it's been done again and again. This season of AHS is going to go off the rails really fast.
by Anonymous | reply 405 | September 20, 2019 6:53 PM |
Not for nothing, but they were guaranteed 10 seasons. It doesn't do much to argue the point that THEY'RE IN THEIR 9TH SEASON!!!!! when you knew they were going to be anyway. I don't know if they'll do anything for the final season to go out with a bang, but I sort of feel like S8 wrapped up the whole series. These last 2 seasons are just obligation, at this point, and they've probably lost a few production dollars already. I'm sure that's why most of the regulars have already dropped out. We'll see if they come out of S10 or not. Regardless, I'll watch. Maybe hate watch, but I'll watch.
by Anonymous | reply 406 | September 20, 2019 6:58 PM |
Dear rube @r402, let me spoon-feed this to you since you're ignorant.
The styling of AHS: 1984 is copying the '80s retrowave bandwagon started by other artists in recent years. The opening credits sequence was lifted from Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" video.
NOTE THE NEON PINK TRIANGLES
by Anonymous | reply 407 | September 20, 2019 7:02 PM |
Gaga herself stole the pink triangles and vintage look from experimental filmmaker Jennifer Juniper Stratford's stylings around 2010.

So you can see, this is a MODERN pop trend that WAS NOT IN CONTINUOUS USAGE since the '80s that an entirely new generation started by themselves.

425 Maybe it's just because they put her next to Gus Kenworthy, Emma Roberts, and Cody Fern, who all can't act for shit and only get hired by Murphy because of either nepotism or the casting couch, but so far she's the standout of the cast. She has sass, charisma, and isn't grating to watch like the rest of them. So far, in my opinion at least, she's the best part of 1984.

In the original 1980 "Friday the 13th" movie, Mrs. Voorhees said she was the cook at Camp Crystal Lake when her son Jason drowned.

I have to watch for Gus's glorious pecs and abs. And because I'm a fan of all the shows it's ripping off. Slutting up Matthew Morrison is a perk and I also want to support Billie Lourd because I feel sorry for her losing her mom.
So I'm going to add my hatewatch comments. Datalounge is for "pointless bitchery." However, I will give credit when the show does something right, like the payphone sequence.
by Anonymous | reply 445 | September 21, 2019 6:53 AM |
I kinda like Gus, there was only one scene when I thought he was out of place, but for the most part he was alright. I got to say, I never thought Morrison had it in him. Nice.
by Anonymous | reply 446 | September 21, 2019 7:10 AM |
I personally like Billie Lourd, especially when she's playing someone closer to herself. As dreadful as Scream Queens was her character worked because it was basically her.
The only thing I will give AHS credit for is their new-ish jarring mid-season twists. I liked the reenactment show becoming the a new show with the reenactors & originals in Roanoke. I liked the fallout shelters in the "future" suddenly switching to the witches in the "past" in Apocalypse.
My guess for this season is either a time jump (where did that hiker who was dressed like he was from years before come from) or we're really watching a movie. Guess we'll find out mid-season!

There has to be a time travel/ jump with that big clue with the hippie murdered guy who told the gang "I tried". Also there may be a significance with cutting off ears. Still not entirely convinced that Margaret the fundie camp director isn't dead or the actual killer who solely framed Mr. Jingles when in reality they were both in cahoots. How did her husband die and how convenient that his fortune allowed her to reboot the camp. Did she in some way allowed for Mr. Jingles to return to the camp just in time to be blamed again for her killing spree? Has Mr. Jingles returned not to kill more counselors but exact revenge on Margaret? Maybe the hippie murdered ghost was running away from a time warp as well as from Margaret when he realized that she's returned to the camp for more bloodshed.

R456 I hope so. Murphy didn't coincidentally cast all hot actors with medium-to-low ranging talent for no reason. I think he's gonna pay us off with some eye candy. Here's hoping for a threeway, or at least Gus getting pounded by the black guy. From what I can see from the short shorts, all of the male cast members have great asses.

Ross did a livestream where she was watching the show with some of the cast. Sex was brought up and Billie said there will be some like her character was definitely involved in it which makes sense for her slutty characters. A couple things:
-The license plate on the van they drove to the camp said VANTACY -The song used for the cast announcement trailer was I Can Dream About You -Emma Roberts character tells the group that the murder rate goes up in the summer because it's hot and people keep their windows open. She then goes home and falls asleep literally in front of an open window and is woken up by Richard Ramirez, who the gang was just talking about that afternoon. -Grossman, Morrison and The Hitchhiker all look like they're from the 70's, not the 80's.
Prediction: The twist is that the first few episodes are a dream. The constant 80's movies references in the premiere got old very quickly. I get that they were mocking the bad acting from those films, but that doesn't excuse the bad acting in this cast. Ross is great, but everyone else grates. We were spoiled with the cast of previous seasons. They've dumbed everything down, and I wonder if it's because the cast is so weak.
As for Cody Fern, he's been oddly quiet on Instagram. He was all about promoting Apocalypse last year. He hasn't posted anything about1984. He did the same thing with his season of House of Cards, and he was very public about how disappointed he was by that experience.I was a Cody Fern fan, but his allegiance to Murphy is killing his career. He needs to get out of from under Murphy's skirt.
Murphy's weird loyalty to Grossman, Roberts and Lourde has ruined this show.

Billie Lourd remains terrible in every way. At least Gus isn’t an actor—what is Billie’s excuse? Sometimes nepotism is cute but usually it’s awful.
Are we supposed to root for any of these characters? Will we root for the killer to flay each of the camp counselors?
by Anonymous | reply 475 | September 22, 2019 1:34 AM |
R475 I said the same thing. I said “if any of these characters doesn’t gain any redeemable qualities, and I doubt they will, I can at least root for the murderer to kill them all”
by Anonymous | reply 476 | September 22, 2019 1:38 AM |
R475 At this point the women on this show are so annoying to watch that I’m hoping he kills Roberts and Lourd next episode. I like the cook, she can be the partner-in-crime. And Mr. Jingles can keep Kenworthy, Morison, and Horton naked and chained up together in a cabin to sodomize at will for all I care, they can’t act for shit and they’re only good for being eye candy.

IIRC, Lourde's father is Murphy's agent or part of his management team. That might explain Murphy's loyalty to Billie. But, Murphy also has a history of hiring spawn of celebs or members of acting families for his shows like Danny Huston, Grace Gummer, and Lily Rabe.
Murphy's weird loyalty to Grossman, Roberts and Lourde has ruined this show.
Lourde's father is Murphy's agent or part of his management team. That might explain Murphy's loyalty to Billie.
Lourd is his one of his agents and has been for a very long time. They're also actually friends so he has known Billie for a long time. She credits him with saving her life after her mom died by giving her another role.
Emma Roberts said that she's known him since she was a kid through "family and friends." He also worked with her aunt Julia Roberts.
He cast Leslie in Popular years ago and waited almost a decade to call her for American Horror Story so that seems to be an outside connection. Rather she auditioned once, worked with him once and came back years later.
Someone last year broke down how most of the actors he continually works with have some sort of connection to him that is beyond, "they auditioned." He worked with Javier Bardem and then his wife Penelope Cruz who he met through him. The same goes for Murphy's publicist, Simon Halls who is married to Matt Bomer who has also worked with him many times. He even named the character from Asylum, "Kit Walker" after their kids.
Cody Fern is one of the few people that just simply auditioned without any connections to him that we know of.
I was bored of Peters, and Paulson by last season. Glad they’re gone.
One of the FX Bosses said that one of the reasons Murphy had to "clean the slate" was because the old cast was starting to cost too much money.

by Anonymous | reply 506 | September 23, 2019 2:12 PM |
Angela Bassett was only written into Apocalypse after she publicly commented on her disappointed over not to be invited to appear. She was written in last minute, which was another reason why that finale sucked as hard as it did.
The acting and dialogue of 1984 was too bad and cheesey for it not to be a dream or fantasy. Enduring that kind of low-quality talent might work for a 90 minute movie, but nobody is sticking around for ten weeks of that crap. They intentionally had the hitch hiker have a bandana across his forehead like a 70's hippie would wear to get people to question the time line. Grossman's hair looks like that annoying sister's on that 70's show, and Morrison most definitely looks to be from the 70's. They never really explained why he was there. Adding to the fantasy/re-enactment camp theory, Nurse Rita refused to help Ray with his cut hand. I'm voting for Grossman, Morrison, Ross and The Hitch Hiker all being actors, with Xavier being in on it because he was hired to work there as an actor, all while a real killer is on the loose.

R511 not Cody's character? He seems gay too but maybe that is just Ferns acting.
by Anonymous | reply 512 | September 23, 2019 8:10 PM |
I don't know how people watched that and thought the writing/acting was something other than intentionally bad. Cody Fern and Gus Kenworthy were fucking perfect. I was particularly impressed with Gus because telling someone to do an intentionally shitty job acting normally results in them completely overdoing it (because no actor wants to believe that their normal work could possibly be close to bad work, they feel they must make it very different if it's supposed to look bad). Cody's timing at the aerobics studio, when they're all sitting around after class and he does a split second pause between explaining his summer plans and saying "you should all come with me!" was flawless. I'm not going to rewatch the episode to confirm my memory, but I think that was a steady shot, not something pulled together in the editing.
I have no desire to watch Stranger Things (I was 12 in 1984, have no nostalgia for it, and zero desire to see anyone's childhood filmed through a Spielbergian filter). I tried to watch GLOW, but found the characters unlikeable and dull. But I thought this was silly fun. I prefer AHS to be campy. I didn't even tune in until Coven. It's possible that Murphy is targeting an audience full of people like me. I don't know anyone my age or older who gives a shit about Stranger Things.
by Anonymous | reply 513 | September 23, 2019 8:13 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 514 | September 23, 2019 8:13 PM |
He seems gay too but maybe that is just Ferns acting.
Whether or not the character turns out to be gay, in the 80s, the audience was routinely expected to accept such a character as straight despite all contrary signalling. Straight people could write such characters and put them on screen with zero apparent awareness that it came across as gay.
by Anonymous | reply 515 | September 23, 2019 8:18 PM |
Then you're living under a rock with no awareness of the superior offerings out there, r513, as I imagine all AHS fans are.
STRANGER THINGS had 40 million viewers when Season 3 debuted this July — That is on-par with the biggest shows out there like GAME OF THRONES and WALKING DEAD
It's a family show with broad appeal. Parents and grandparents who lived through the '80s love it for the period nostalgia. Young people like it because there's a bunch of youngsters in the cast.

Fern and Kenworthy are playing versions of themselves. Fern can act, which is why he's excelling at his role of a deeply closeted actor trying to pass as straight ("I call dibbs!"). Kenworthy literally is a dumb gay jock. There's no way Kenworthy is intentionally dumbing down his acting skill for this role.
So what's the story with Billie Lourde's parentage? Did Fisher and Lourde's father date or was it a sperm donor situation?
R491, they dated for three years. It was legit. She once said:
“People ask if it lessens the blow that he left me for a man because it’s a rejection of my gender and so isn’t personal. But I don’t care what people say – I was humiliated and betrayed and I believed I’d somehow messed up. I don’t know if I believed I made him gay, but I’d failed and that’s all that really counts.”
He also blamed her drug use for him turning to men and she didn't have the kindest things to say about him in her books. However, that's another thread.
I was particularly impressed with Gus because telling someone to do an intentionally shitty job acting normally results in them completely overdoing it ...
They weren't all bad. I'm not buying that he was trying to be intentionally bad while a few of the other actors were good even while saying their cheesy dialogue.
Based upon the descriptions: All of this is over in episode 5. Then we'll see what the twist is.
However, someone pointed out that we should look at the promos for the season. We saw the actors in "screen tests" in their outfits. We also saw the actors all entering the cabin and pretending they were looking around it.
But I keep thinking the twist will be more ambitious than, "This is a movie" because it's way too close to what they already did with Roanoke. My guess is, this is a movie and then when the twist happens they will all be playing themselves like Wes Craven's New Nightmare or the very end of The OA. That's why the promos made it clear that we were seeing these actors and when the show started with episode one we even got title cards for the characters.

In one of the teasers, the two camp counselors are watching TV when the killer attacks. A quick shot of the television shows Emma Roberts (Brooke) standing at the payphone the ways she was at the end of the first episodes, like the counselors were watching the first episode that aired.
Something else I noticed from the cast announcement was that Grossman, Morrison and Ross were all acting scared while the looked around the cabin. Fern, Lourde, Roberts, Horton and Kenworthy didn't seem scared at all. They very intentionally left the marking tape on the floor of the cabin to show each actor hitting their mark. It's either a dream, a re-enactment, or a show within a show.
Why did so many past actors bow out this season?
Some of them are busy with other shows or have contractual obligations like Gaborey Sidibe and Adina Porter, some said they didn't want to return like Kathy Bates, Evan Peters and Jessica Lange, some of them were/are on other Ryan Murphy projects like Angela Basset, Sarah Paulson, Matt Bomer, Finn Wittrock and of course Jessica Lange again.
But it saves them money overall by hiring mostly a new group of people so now you have actors on the show who are archetypes of other actors that used to be on the show.
Plus the whole idea would have had to of been different to accommodate that group of older actors way out of their 20s.
by Anonymous | reply 546 | September 25, 2019 8:19 PM |
If any of them wanted to be part of the cast this season, Murphy would work around their schedules. I've literally never seen Adina porter in anything but AHS, so not sure what important projects she has lined up. Sidibe shot around Empire last season, Bassett, too, shot around 911 for her cameo last season. Filming for Ratched ended in July and The Politician ended filming several months ago, so there goes that excuse for Wittrock, Lange and Paulson. It's been widely speculated that Peters took the season off because of Roberts.
I get the feeling think the more likely answer is Conroy, Lange, Bates, Bassett etc gave the slasher film theme a hard pass. I can also totally see all of them looking down their noses at the current cast, who are really only there because Murphy plays favorites. The whole thing is beneath them.

Paulson is arguably the busiest and she's already confirmed she'll return to the AHS this season in a smaller role. The scheduling conflict excuse doesn't pass the sniff test.
I think the older actresses didn't return because they weren't asked to return.
I believe I read here that Murphy promotes you as the next big thing one day and drops you the next. I think Cody Fern learned that the hard way. He hasn't said one word about this season but is talking about how much he misses playing Michael Langdon.
by Anonymous | reply 551 | September 25, 2019 10:04 PM |
Probably cause with Langdon he was giving sooo much to do and in this season hes more in the ensemble. Which I get but seems selfish. Xavier still seems like a large part of the show just not the amount of material as last year. Apocalypse was a letdown but he was good in it.

It's not about Scheduling Conflicts as much as it is about them [italic]not needing the work[/italic] and they honestly wouldn't adjust the schedule for *every* actor.
Adina Porter was on Apple TV's The Morning Show, has been on CW's The 100 for years and is on a new Netflix show shooting now.
Gabourey Sidibe stated herself that her contract with Empire sets express limits for what she can do outside of the show set by episode count. Once she was upgraded to regular they only allowed her to do three appearances on Difficult People where she was previously a regular. The same goes for AHS. They seemed to have shot all of her stuff for Coven 2 very quickly and even that, I'm sure, had to be negotiated since he obviously likes her.
Bassett only returned for her cameo because she openly stated she never had been asked in a season where nearly every actor previously on the show had returned. It just looked bad.
I get the feeling think the more likely answer is Conroy, Lange, Bates, Bassett etc gave the slasher film theme a hard pass. All of these people had previously been on the show for YEARS and done everything known to man from running around with three titties to being set on fire at the stake while wearing fashionable gowns. Kathy Bates had to play a severed head for several episodes and still returned to the show the next season. They didn't just have a problem with the theme NOW. My guess is, they just were busy, didn't feel the need to come back and if he's already helping them in some way (if he really didn't "need" them) I doubt he'd ask them to return.
As for Paulson, I'm sure he left that up to her since she's been his favorite for years now and through process of elimination.

That shower scene was such a tease...

Ok, the hitchhiker guy is a ghost. Are they all ghosts ?
by Anonymous | reply 564 | September 26, 2019 2:33 AM |
lol the van wont start
by Anonymous | reply 565 | September 26, 2019 2:43 AM |
Searching for car keys in the cabin drawers?
Nope. Nobody's been playing FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE GAME at all!
by Anonymous | reply 566 | September 26, 2019 3:00 AM |
Hitchiker, Trevor and Rita are all ghosts. At least it got more interesting.

Blow the Best Man's brains out at the wedding!
CHEAP
by Anonymous | reply 568 | September 26, 2019 3:17 AM |
The wedding sequence should have included a dead bridesmaid

Conroy as an oversexed camp counselor would have awesome!

I’m actually loving this. It’s really living up to the low budget, bad acting, campy vibes of 80s slashers.
by Anonymous | reply 572 | September 26, 2019 3:43 AM |
Lol... I guess everyone tuned out after episode 1.
by Anonymous | reply 573 | September 26, 2019 3:45 AM |
This episode tonight was great. A lot of fun.
by Anonymous | reply 574 | September 26, 2019 3:59 AM |
Now we know where the hitchhikers body went when Emma Roberts took everyone to where he was hanging on the back of the cabin door.
by Anonymous | reply 575 | September 26, 2019 4:02 AM |
The shower scene actually had surprisingly little nudity, I'm shocked we haven't seen Kenworthy's ass.
This episode was silly fun, though the Brooke wedding flashback was over the top even for vibe of the show. Must be more of a story there.
by Anonymous | reply 576 | September 26, 2019 4:09 AM |
I'm not fully buying Brooke's story. I bet she fucked the best man.
by Anonymous | reply 577 | September 26, 2019 4:11 AM |
The wedding scene was fantastic.
Loved how over the top campy this is.
by Anonymous | reply 578 | September 26, 2019 4:11 AM |
This episode basically felt like it could be an episode of Scream Queens to me.
by Anonymous | reply 579 | September 26, 2019 4:15 AM |
Trailer for Episode 3: "What are you doing down there?"
"I'm dying!" in Gus Kenworthy's voice.
So is Gus going to be the first of the gang to go down? To death, that is.
by Anonymous | reply 580 | September 26, 2019 4:45 AM |
Kenworthy did a decent job acting tonight. And I will thank Jesus and Mary for his pecs and buns tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 581 | September 26, 2019 5:36 AM |
I don't want to keep bullying Cody Fern. But I don't buy him as "gay for pay."
by Anonymous | reply 582 | September 26, 2019 5:37 AM |
Fun and catchy pop songs during gruesome slaughters = glib/cringey/gross/sadistic/psycho/not scary/not funny
It's just a tactless show of, by and for creepy dweebs.
by Anonymous | reply 583 | September 26, 2019 5:42 AM |
Emma Roberts didn't even dodge when Ramirez swung his knife at her. He just WILDLY MISSED a point-blank, foolproof target.
by Anonymous | reply 584 | September 26, 2019 5:44 AM |
R581 did he or any of those guys actually show their buns in that shower scene?
by Anonymous | reply 585 | September 26, 2019 5:46 AM |
They were in underwear. The camera cropped out the moments they were nude 😢😢😢
by Anonymous | reply 586 | September 26, 2019 5:52 AM |
So, can we rule out that Margaret is a ghost because 1) She says she's not and 2) She aged, whereas Hippie Ghost didn't?
by Anonymous | reply 587 | September 26, 2019 5:54 AM |
Why did the show warn there was nudity when there was none?
by Anonymous | reply 588 | September 26, 2019 6:01 AM |
R588 to tease you.
by Anonymous | reply 589 | September 26, 2019 6:06 AM |
I wonder how the families of Richard Ramirez's victims object to the way he is being portrayed on this show. (The actor who plays him looks like he could be Sandra Bernhard's little brother.)
I keep thinking I'm going to find Matthew morrison attractive in this role (he is attractive to me in real life), but I find his wig and fake moustache so fake looking as to be constantly isitracting. He Gus Kenworthy doesn't do it for me either, though he has the perfect kind of face for an 80s movies hunk, with that huge Cro-Magnon jawbone teeth

Cody Fern cannot act his way out of a paper bag, poor thing needs to never be cast again.
by Anonymous | reply 591 | September 26, 2019 7:26 AM |
R588, there was nudity. Someone's butt was shown for about 1 second through the shower but since it was through the perspective of the "peep hole" you may have missed it or not even knew what it was.
by Anonymous | reply 592 | September 26, 2019 8:20 AM |
So... once again a GAY man can write lesbian characters but gay male characters..? NOPE. WTF?! I'll only watch if there's a gay male character,
by Anonymous | reply 593 | September 26, 2019 8:25 AM |
Cody Fern cannot act his way out of a paper bag, poor thing needs to never be cast again.
None of this cast can act. They all suck.
It's like watching a high school production.
I don't want to keep bullying Cody Fern. But I don't buy him as "gay for pay."
That was probably the point, with a backstory coming. There is no such thing as "gay for pay." There is however bisexuals who do porn and market themselves as such to fucked up gays.
Why did the show warn there was nudity when there was none?
Did they later? The opening had only a violence and language warning.
by Anonymous | reply 595 | September 26, 2019 9:26 AM |
R595 It said nudity down the bottom. FX must be playing games. Last nights "It's Always Sunny" said nudity and it just had blurred out nudity not actual nudity
by Anonymous | reply 596 | September 26, 2019 12:13 PM |
So is that it ? The rest of the season is going to be them running around the camp like those morons in that Geico slasher commercial ? What a missed opportunity. So many great slasher situations they could have mined.
How could they not show a good butt shot in the shower scene. Why even write a scene like that and not deliver the goods.
That opening scene made no sense. The doctor just sits there knowing the killer is loose.
Hopefully Emma is going to have a Scream 4 moment towards the end of the season

Who's the fug playing Richard?

Unwatchable mess.
