I think cats rat all on their own, it's instinct.

My 2 cats used to snuggle like that every day. They'd wad up in adorable bliss for an hour or so, and then out of nowhere the older one would decide it was time to stop snuggling and attempt to rip the aorta out of the younger one's neck. They wouldn't even look at each other until the next day when snuggle time started again.
