Oscar Season: 2018 Movies, Part 13

TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT! Will Gaga top Glenn? Will Barbra’s #1 Fan lose his shit over meeting Babs in person?? Will Rami wear the fake teeth down the carpet??? Will Bryan Singer sneak in thru a slightly ajar back door (per usual)???? TUNE IN AND FIND OUT!!

by Anonymousreply 150February 25, 2019 10:59 AM

I’ve played M so often here that it will be hard for me to feel pleased for Glenn.

by Anonymousreply 1February 24, 2019 4:21 PM

Sally Kirkland is already on the red carpet.

Gotta love that ol’ cunt

by Anonymousreply 3February 24, 2019 4:36 PM

Of the 600 possible posts in this thread, how many will the scarily-obsessed Rami Malek troll be responsible for? I'll say 200.

by Anonymousreply 4February 24, 2019 4:38 PM

I love Glenn and, if she wins, it's well deserved and not one of those 'she's been around forever and never won so let's just give it to her' awards. BUT, I would not be surprised if there was an upset and Olivia Colman wins. No, really.

by Anonymousreply 5February 24, 2019 4:40 PM

OC was absolutely terrific in The Favourite! Would be a well deserved Oscar definitely! But my heart would break for Glenn (whose film I haven't seen).

by Anonymousreply 6February 24, 2019 4:44 PM

Close will win a "career Oscar"- which should be outlawed. Gaga will steal the night, though.

If I chose the winner I'd pick Melissa McCarthy. Her performance awed me. The others bored me.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 7February 24, 2019 4:52 PM

I don't see it as a career Oscar for Glenn. She's riveting in The Wife and it's an Oscar worthy performance.

by Anonymousreply 8February 24, 2019 4:54 PM

No. No it really isn't.

by Anonymousreply 9February 24, 2019 4:56 PM

The amount of times someone has won for being owed an Oscar for a previous loss is annoying. Just award the original performance.

by Anonymousreply 10February 24, 2019 4:56 PM

I hope BP is a surprise.

by Anonymousreply 11February 24, 2019 4:59 PM

The only true surprise for BP would be Vice or A Star is Born, since they are the only films nominated that haven't won anything of note.

by Anonymousreply 12February 24, 2019 5:08 PM

Vanity Fair has an online ballot and Bohemian Rhapsody has the lead, Rami Mallek has a huge lead and Glen Close has a slim lead over Lady Gaga.

by Anonymousreply 13February 24, 2019 5:13 PM

When Glenn loses will she cry? It would be refreshing to see genuine emotion in one of her performances for the first time. Always a silver lining in these things.

by Anonymousreply 14February 24, 2019 5:49 PM

R13 rami has some crazy fans so that’s not surprising. Let’s hope the actual voters aren’t insane and vote for someone else.

by Anonymousreply 15February 24, 2019 6:06 PM

No, R8, it really isn’t. It’s a decent performance with a few good moments but it’s nowhere near an Oscar-worthy performance.

by Anonymousreply 16February 24, 2019 6:15 PM

Glenn gave a wonderful performance in a meh film. Has happened many times.

She was riveting, and like my boyfriend said, she used her eyes to emote more than anything, and that is special in itself.

Meryl rarely does that these days.

by Anonymousreply 17February 24, 2019 6:20 PM

Rami isn’t in the lead cause of his “fans”, it’s cause majority loved that movie and him In it.

Numbers dont lie.

by Anonymousreply 18February 24, 2019 6:21 PM

[quote]Will Gaga top Glenn

I thought Glenn was the top.

Bullshit, R17. What Meryl did with her eyes in that phone scene in The Post alone blows everything Glenn did in The Wife out of the fucking water.

E! Is covering the Oscars and they are raving about Glenn in “The Wife” and how strong she was in this.

They don’t think Gaga will win but they think she will win an acting Oscar one day.

by Anonymousreply 24February 24, 2019 7:22 PM

Must read. This really is the worst year for movies in a good while. Probably since Eddie redmayne won for the theory of everything.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 25February 24, 2019 7:31 PM

I liked a few of the nominees. I’m not reading another bullshit article of someone crying that they’re negative reviews didn’t work on taking down a film.

by Anonymousreply 26February 24, 2019 7:34 PM

Willam was just on E! And said that they were gonna cut the Drag Queens scenes so he was gonna be let go but Gaga fought for them and got their scenes back so they added Shangela and the rest is History.

The scenes with them and Cooper are not scripted.

by Anonymousreply 27February 24, 2019 7:36 PM

R27 I think you mean herstory. Halleloo, yes gawd.

by Anonymousreply 28February 24, 2019 7:39 PM

In honor of Oscar Sunday, here’s a link to a DL classic: Glenn Close visiting Lauren Bacall at the Dakota. Featuring Bacall’s dog Sophie and the infamous Humperdink.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 29February 24, 2019 7:40 PM

Lauren and Glenn certainly have more in common than their love of dogs... even after tonight, no doubt.

by Anonymousreply 30February 24, 2019 7:42 PM

I noticed on the Spirit awards last night that Glenn has developed a hump.

She looks like a little old lady now.

by Anonymousreply 31February 24, 2019 7:44 PM

I won an Oscar ! I won an Oscar !

by Anonymousreply 32February 24, 2019 7:50 PM

They’re praising Lucy Boynton on E! For her looks, her mysterious aura and her natural beauty. As well as her “captivating” performance in BR.

by Anonymousreply 36February 24, 2019 7:58 PM

R25 Probably since Eddie redmayne won for the theory of everything.

Redmayne haters are just the worst.

by Anonymousreply 37February 24, 2019 7:59 PM

now I see we have lot of rami ubers , jesus, they re coming, they re coming

by Anonymousreply 38February 24, 2019 8:01 PM

r25 Redmayne haters and Malek haters are the same, I reckon. Old tasteless cunts.

by Anonymousreply 39February 24, 2019 8:03 PM

When I saw her on Sing Street I wondered if she would be a star. BR is the first movie I noticed of her since. She has toned down her cartoon voice.

by Anonymousreply 40February 24, 2019 8:04 PM

No idea why I wrote 25?

by Anonymousreply 41February 24, 2019 8:04 PM

That was excellent r25. Thanks for sharing.

by Anonymousreply 42February 24, 2019 8:05 PM

When I win tonight M I will have more major award hardware than you. You’ve gotten lazy. You need to do Broadway for awhile and cut down on the hammy over the top film performances. An Oscar, 3 Emmys and 3 Tonys to your 3 Oscars and 3 Emmys.

by Anonymousreply 43February 24, 2019 8:11 PM

Meryl didn’t get any praise at all for Mary Poppins. The sequel to Momma Mia was surprisingly entertaining.

by Anonymousreply 44February 24, 2019 8:13 PM

I also liked the Mamma Mia sequel. A lot more than the original actually.

Those weird times when the thread updates but you can't see the new posts because you've FFed and blocked the troll...

by Anonymousreply 52February 24, 2019 8:21 PM

I do hope my dear friend Glenn wears a dress tonight that hides her hump. Perhaps a large bow, or a long, flowing wig. Even a feather boa would do the trick.

by Anonymousreply 53February 24, 2019 8:22 PM

R52 I agree , i blocked some rami uber troll and 60 %posts are gone

by Anonymousreply 54February 24, 2019 8:23 PM

Omg. Mercury went off the rails due to the influence of one person that happened to be gay. Not cause he was gay.

And then he meets a gay man that is good for him.

by Anonymousreply 58February 24, 2019 8:26 PM

R39 like you have taste? Keaton is best at comedy roles.

by Anonymousreply 60February 24, 2019 8:27 PM

If Roma and/or The Favourite (only two good movies nominated) don’t win everything then this broadcast will be a travesty.

by Anonymousreply 61February 24, 2019 8:30 PM

Roma is a bore. No one really cares about that shit. Stuff like that winning the big awards is why viewership sinks lower and lower every year.

by Anonymousreply 62February 24, 2019 8:33 PM

Yeah even on E! They all think it will win but none seem to want it to.

by Anonymousreply 63February 24, 2019 8:35 PM

Though I liked it, Roma is the broccoli of movies. If it wins, the Academy and the show will be in even worse shape than they are now.

by Anonymousreply 64February 24, 2019 8:37 PM

Will the continuation of this thread of threads be the official thread(s) for tonight, or will a new thread be created?

by Anonymousreply 65February 24, 2019 8:38 PM

r65 this thread is IT. A 14 will be created once this reaches 600.

by Anonymousreply 66February 24, 2019 8:39 PM

“Malek is nominated for best actor for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury, the bisexual HIV-positive frontman of legendary rock band Queen, in the film Bohemian Rhapsody. So far, he’s won the Golden Globe, the BAFTA, and the SAG award, all major precursors to Oscar gold. There’s just one thing — his speeches have been a bit off.“ The understatement of the season.

by Anonymousreply 67February 24, 2019 8:43 PM

Broccoli is very good with cheese and butter.

I don’t know why it gets posted over and over again what a bore Roma. Many exciting things happen

Will someone explain the voting system to me ? Someone else was talking this movie was getting a lot of 2s and might win. Roma was getting bad scores and was going to lose.

by Anonymousreply 68February 24, 2019 8:43 PM

What ? I thought Rami gave good speeches.

by Anonymousreply 69February 24, 2019 8:44 PM

Malek's speeches were fine.

by Anonymousreply 72February 24, 2019 8:47 PM

[R68] The process of counting votes for best picture isn't as simple as one might think. According to Cullinan, each voter is asked to rank the nominated films, with one being their top choice. After determining which film garnered the least number of votes, PwC employees take that title out of contention and look to see which movie each of those voters selected as their second favorite. That redistribution process continues until there are only two films remaining. The one with the biggest pile wins. "It doesn’t necessarily mean that who has the most number one votes from the beginning is ensured they win," he added. "It’s not necessarily the case, because going through this process of preferential voting, it could be that the one who started in the lead, doesn’t finish in the lead."

by Anonymousreply 73February 24, 2019 8:47 PM

People are already arriving? Seems kinda early, no?

by Anonymousreply 74February 24, 2019 8:47 PM

r59 Yes I have flawless taste, test me.

by Anonymousreply 75February 24, 2019 8:48 PM

by Anonymousreply 76February 24, 2019 8:48 PM

I'd prefer Black Panther to win Best Pic over Roma and I wasn't even crazy about BP.

by Anonymousreply 77February 24, 2019 8:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 80February 24, 2019 8:56 PM

No, no no r80. a) This is not for singing! b) Why not root for Viggo then? Oh, right, he didn't sing. c) Bale is an actor! d) No!

How old is Ryan Seacrest? He just claimed on the red carpet that 25 years ago he was a “very little kid”

by Anonymousreply 82February 24, 2019 9:04 PM

I was surprised to learn Yalitza is only 25.

by Anonymousreply 83February 24, 2019 9:05 PM

R82, he and I are fraternal twins, darling.

by Anonymousreply 84February 24, 2019 9:05 PM

I googled it, Seacrest is 44. Lying ass. He was 19 25 years ago

by Anonymousreply 85February 24, 2019 9:07 PM

Seacrest is so smarmy and condescending. He’s making a big deal out of Giuliana being on the red carpet for the first time.

by Anonymousreply 86February 24, 2019 9:12 PM

Weren't people talking about avoiding Ryan on the red carpet just a year or so ago because of the #MeToo thing? (He was accused at that time I think.) So I guess all of that has blown over?

by Anonymousreply 87February 24, 2019 9:13 PM

Giuliana has never been on the red carpet?!

by Anonymousreply 88February 24, 2019 9:13 PM

R87 no proof arose with the accusations and it got buried.

by Anonymousreply 89February 24, 2019 9:14 PM

Why is Billy Porter there tonight? Does he appear in one of the nominated films?

by Anonymousreply 90February 24, 2019 9:17 PM

Constance Wu looks very pretty.

by Anonymousreply 91February 24, 2019 9:17 PM

I pray for an evening of upsets.

by Anonymousreply 92February 24, 2019 9:18 PM

Praying Rami wins. I can’t handle him losing right now.

by Anonymousreply 93February 24, 2019 9:18 PM

r90 Why will Jack Nicholson be there tonight? That place would look deserted if only people who starred in the nominated movies showed up.

by Anonymousreply 94February 24, 2019 9:19 PM

Will Jack be there tonight? When's the last time he's been seen in public?

by Anonymousreply 95February 24, 2019 9:20 PM

It seems the system makes the winner slightly more predictable, no? It makes sure that "votes splitting" doesn't create a rather unpopular winner.

by Anonymousreply 96February 24, 2019 9:20 PM

Jack Nicholson is a film actor, R94. Billy Porter is known primarily for the stage and now TV (because of "Pose"). The question isn't a knock on him, I'm just saying his presence there is a bit out of the ordinary.

by Anonymousreply 109February 24, 2019 9:37 PM

I binged watched a lot of these movies over the weekend. Bohemian Rhapsody is total crap. I’m kind of horrified that it made so much money, though I should prob expect that from a country that elected Trump. It’s Best Picture nom is up there with Ghost.

Richard E. Grant was amazing in Can You Ever Forgive Me. Really hoping for an upset win for him tonight.

by Anonymousreply 110February 24, 2019 9:37 PM

I also really enjoyed his performance r110.

by Anonymousreply 111February 24, 2019 9:40 PM

Bohemian Rhapsody did not make so much money in a country that elected Trump or not, but in every country, excluding China, where it's banned. Less in the US than at other places if anything. You sound like a fool.
