Best Rehabilitation Tuesday (since it was non-existent) Ever!

by Anonymousreply 4February 19, 2019 9:19 PM

There is just so much to digest daily about the "alleged" treasonous activities of Pres Bone Spurs and fam.

-Nukes to the Saudis (what could go wrong)

-Wanted to interfere in the SDNY investigations

Just today!

by Anonymousreply 5February 19, 2019 10:26 PM

[Quote] Best Rehabilitation Tuesday (since it was non-existent) Ever!

Have you seen the alleged gays on the Decriminalization of Homosexuality thread? They are a-singing his praises and how they knew "all along" that Trump as an ally and savior to the gays.

by Anonymousreply 6February 19, 2019 10:34 PM

r6 I read about 10 posts on that thread and stopped. It probably is just the usual trolls (Russian and self-loathing right wing gays) who have nothing better to do than cream their jeans fapping for Pres Bone Spurs. There is a huge contrarian streak in many gay man, sadly. If they are so fucking stupid to give this asshole, buffoon, conman ANY credit about anything they deserve hyena laughter.

by Anonymousreply 7February 19, 2019 10:46 PM

Well, one of the posters who is always in these Mueller threads posted "Can't we just admit that this was a good thing that he did even if we hate him for everything else?"

One of our longtime multiple posters.

by Anonymousreply 8February 19, 2019 10:59 PM

r8 Ugh. No, we cannot give him any credit even if he stumbles on doing something right. No. No. No. No. Ever. He is such a terrible, horrible human being, "president" and he never does anything for the right reasons. You don't give an INCH to scum like him. He isn't normal. We can't treat anything he does as normal.

by Anonymousreply 9February 19, 2019 11:02 PM

Please. For Trump to publicly announce this is nothing. There is absolutely no muscle behind it. It is another PR stunt. I cannot understand how people don't get that by now. Everything he does is a PR stunt lacking in substance. From his meeting/photo op with Kim Jong WTF, to his declaration of emergency. It's all bullshit and so is this. Do you think for one minute he will DO anything to the countries who are gay haters? Hell Russi is not only homophobic, but violently anti Gay. So are the Saudis. THis was a dig at Iran, but it's meaningless.

by Anonymousreply 10February 19, 2019 11:25 PM

Rehabilitation Tuesday has moved to Thursday this week. Miss Lindsey is having her vapors today.

by Anonymousreply 11February 19, 2019 11:25 PM

Well OP, thanks for posting the cartoon sketch rather than a photo of the real thing.

by Anonymousreply 12February 20, 2019 12:09 AM

[quote]Well, one of the posters who is always in these Mueller threads posted "Can't we just admit that this was a good thing that he did even if we hate him for everything else?"

The only reason Trump did that is not to protect gays but to hurt Iran. In this case, it works in favor of gays but 1) it may be just words on paper; 2) he may turn against gays in many other ways.

Bottom-line: it's always self-serving and always dangling a group of people as a carrot.

by Anonymousreply 13February 20, 2019 12:17 AM

Thanks OP

by Anonymousreply 14February 20, 2019 12:25 AM

Good lawd, Kellyanne is on Cuomo now.

by Anonymousreply 15February 20, 2019 1:02 AM

Cuomo let's that Kellyanne thing filibuster.

by Anonymousreply 16February 20, 2019 1:08 AM

OP has posted a haunting, yet strangely accurate, depiction of what I hope will become an endangered species, the Huckabeast.

by Anonymousreply 17February 20, 2019 1:11 AM

Gotta say... I'm over Eric Swallwell. I hope he doesn't run for President. I don't like his mouth.

by Anonymousreply 18February 20, 2019 1:56 AM

R18, there was a thread when he announced. I think there were about 30 replies. I've never seen him mentioned again.

by Anonymousreply 19February 20, 2019 2:00 AM

Mc Cabe is on with Lawrence O Donnell!

by Anonymousreply 20February 20, 2019 2:12 AM

I'll admit it.

Kellyanne Conway emits a tractor beam that I get caught in. I'm immobilized watching and listening to her even while I want to flee in horror.

McCabe looks like he stepped right out of 1963.

by Anonymousreply 24February 20, 2019 2:28 AM

I like his voice. McCabe. Gentle.

by Anonymousreply 25February 20, 2019 2:31 AM

McCabe is very well spoken.

McCabe is a true professional. I am very impressed by him. Lawrence really tried to get him to spill and leak and he tells it like it is without falling for it.

So Trump drags another one into the gutter: Whitaker. Of course in order to take a job in this administration you'd have to be a fucking idiot who does not comprehend that Trump will drag you down into the gutter with him, so it's a nice full circle.

by Anonymousreply 30February 20, 2019 2:45 AM

r29 I won't watch them.

Was the Mike Flynn/ Saudi seal a recent endeavor or was this from the campaign days?

by Anonymousreply 34February 20, 2019 3:02 AM

deal

by Anonymousreply 35February 20, 2019 3:03 AM

Just found Matt Kiser's WTFJHT blog:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 36February 20, 2019 3:06 AM

R34, it started when Flynn was working on the campaign, then the transition team, then as NSA in the White House. They were told it was illegal to be selling the technology to the Saudis and eventually they backed off. But it came up again because some whistleblowers in the Department of defense alerted the media and the House intelligence Committee or the Oversight Committee that it appears the deal is still active.

IMO, I would bet that sniveling piece of shit bastard MBS in Saudi Arabia wants it and has been pressing to resurrect the deal. All these whores out there like MBS and Putin and WTF ever, know they have a live one. THey know Trump is for sale and will little strip this country for its spare parts to personally enrich himself and his family. He is rotten to the core. Not only is he unfit to serve, which, at this point is an understatement, he is unfit to breathe the same air as other human beings.

by Anonymousreply 37February 20, 2019 3:09 AM

R34.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 38February 20, 2019 3:09 AM

Want to say that right now you have an immoral weak former lobbyist as acting Secretary of Defense, and it would be typical that he would allow this kind of slimy deal because when Mattis was there this would have been soundly dismissed and there would be no way it would gain traction. Mattis's departure really opened the floodgates of corruption.

by Anonymousreply 39February 20, 2019 3:11 AM

When trump goes, no matter when or how, there will be such loud shouts of celebration he will be sure to hear it. I want to see him sling away in shame as the world dances in pure joy at his departure.

by Anonymousreply 40February 20, 2019 3:18 AM

Slink away ^

by Anonymousreply 41February 20, 2019 3:19 AM

Someone needs to talk to Trump and make him understand he has to resign before the sky caves in. So many unsavory corrupt nasty types are heavily invested in him they wish he would be President forever.

While some people think it is chilling, and I agree, that when McCabe reported about the Intel people briefing Trump about North Korea's missiles,& Trump responded "Putin says no" and they disagreed, and he said he believed Putin, I had a different take. I think Trump doesn't like to be lectured to. He thinks he knows everything and has his own sources and he knows things no one else knows. He has shown that side hundreds of times about all kinds of stuff. So IMO, yes it was chilling because he rejected his own Intel in favor of a foreign adversary. But I think it was because he has this very basic flaw in his mental state. it goes to the heart of why he is unfit for office.

by Anonymousreply 42February 20, 2019 3:28 AM

He likes ratings so lets tell him if he announces his resignation for treason on live TV it will garner worldwide ratings unlike anything ever witnesses before and it will stand the test of time!

Only to be beat later by his public hanging for treason. Shhh we won't tell him that.

by Anonymousreply 43February 20, 2019 3:30 AM

Trump won't resign until Putin tells him to.

by Anonymousreply 44February 20, 2019 3:30 AM

There is no reasoning with Trump. With Nixon, a group of republican senators went to him and told him it was over. If he didn't resign, they would impeach him. If republican senators did that to Trump, he'd have Putin leak dirt on them. They don't have the courage to do it. Rachel mentioned that the SDNY has something up it's sleeve to indict Trump even if Mueller won't. Said it was an exclusive that they were working on and would be made public later this week.

by Anonymousreply 45February 20, 2019 3:38 AM

I totally expect Dan Coates the DNI to get fired this week. Then we have acting DNI and Acting Secretary of Defense. With all that is happening today, it seems like Trump might do this to draw attention somewhere other than his criminal acts.

by Anonymousreply 46February 20, 2019 3:40 AM

He Is dismantling the entire Intelligence apparatus of our government. This is criminal and the fact that the Senate doesn't act to stop him and insist permanent department heads are appointed and the departments are fully staffed is just insane. If Mueller doesn't include some members of Congress in his batch of indictments I will be shocked.

by Anonymousreply 47February 20, 2019 4:08 AM

It's going to take the entire four years of a Democratic administration just to get Trump's fucking disaster cleaned up. I can't even imagine how poorly these departments are being run. This is what I picture this administration leaving behind for the Dems to clean up...

Refuse to watch Cuomo now that he keeps bringing on Kellyanne Conway. And I was a fan of his!

by Anonymousreply 49February 20, 2019 5:40 AM

Dems always have to clean to after those monsters. Obama cleaned up for W, and Trump gets the credit.

by Anonymousreply 50February 20, 2019 6:07 AM

R49, same here. Why are they always having that liar on? MSNBC is my favorite now. It's a positive experience.

by Anonymousreply 51February 20, 2019 6:08 AM

I'm not loving Ken Dilanian on MSNBC. He seems vested in telling the narrative that Mueller may not pan out as expected. He had a story last week basically saying this and it got lots of push back. He seems to be doubling down on it. He was on Deadline: Whitehouse with Nicole Wallace. She had all these IC experts who were supporting McCabe and Mueller. They were saying the pieces were finally starting to come together and Dilanian had to pour cold water on them and kept cautioning that the investigation may not actually lead to collusion. Wallace shut him down a bit by listing all the things Trump has done to assist Putin/Russia. She said why would Trump do this unless he was getting something for it. He's not ideological on anything other than himself so there has to be a reason and Mueller knows what it is. He was also spouting the same BS on Andrea Mitchell. Glad Rachel doesn't have him on often.

by Anonymousreply 52February 20, 2019 6:19 AM

I think Saudi Arabia is going to play an important factor in the Trump demise. Jared gave list of enemies to crown prince. Flynn was trying to sell nuclear power plants to a country with a huge oil reserve. Why would they need nuclear power plants? Murder in Turkey which Trump ignored. I read a while back that Mueller had expanded into other countries influence. I think this was what was meant. SA was first country Trump visited. Images of the leaders around that glowing ball thing. Weird. Weird. Weird.

by Anonymousreply 53February 20, 2019 6:32 AM

That fast yapper, but no rapper, Callieann on Cuomo needs her own pussy thread just like the Huckabeat.

by Anonymousreply 54February 20, 2019 9:38 AM

I'm with r29 & not watching CNN anymore.

by Anonymousreply 55February 20, 2019 10:07 AM

CNN loves to feature Bernie Sanders and host Kellyanne.

Maybe "eye candy" is their thing.

by Anonymousreply 56February 20, 2019 10:35 AM

There are a few people on CNN I like. I will always be loyal to Anderson Cooper. Jeffrey Toobin is my favorite in house lawyer. Dave Gergen and Gloria Borger are good at analysis and I watch Dana Bash (yes I do) and John King.I can even put up with Wolf Blitzer. John BErman is decent in the morning (Although Robin Roberts and Little George are my favorites in the morning.) That's once or twice a month.it.Period. I wanted to like Chris Cuomo, but I just can't. It isn't just his ridiculous discussions with Kelly Anne Conway. It's his personality, his ego. I don't like him. I mostly avoid CNN unless I can watch a video clip of Anderson or Jeffrey Toobin.

On MSNBC, I like almost everyone. Well, Nicole Wallace gets on my nerves sometimes. Her voice. She needs a speech/vocal coach. Too shrill. Ditzy. So we're down to twice a week with her. Not crazy about Ari Melber. Yes, he's hot, but he knows it, and he seems too frivolous. And IMO Ari's embrace of Sam Nunberg, while more amusing than Kelly Anne, is just as bad as Chris Cuomo. Never watch Mika and Joe. Ever.

Chris Matthews is a character. But sometimes it's fun to watch him, just not every night. More like once or twice a month if that. Matthews has introduced me to some new journalists and commenters, Howard Fineman is a fixture in Washington D.C. He is really wired to the gossip and the machinations of Congress.

Chris Hayes, Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O Donnell are just about the best there is. And Natasha Bertrand of Atlantic Magazine goes after Dilanian on twitter and on TV regularly. Overall MSNBC has some of the best Legal consultants. Barbara McQuade and Joyce Vance, Charles Rosenberg, and Maya Wiley are superb.

As of yesterday, I'm cutting way back on my viewing in general. There is no way I can stomach Bernie Sanders. I get physically ill at the sound of his voice. 11/9 2016, traumatized me, and he brings back the painful memories of election night. Painful.

by Anonymousreply 57February 20, 2019 10:45 AM

I would love Jeffrey Tobin on MSNBC. My daily watch list is Nicolle Wallace and Lawrence. I listen to the previous nights Rachel & 11th hour at work every am.

I hate Ari, Chris Hayes annoys me and Chris Matthews interrupts too much for me to watch. CNN I will listen to Wolf Blitzer on the way home sometimes but that's it. Tired of the GOP liars constantly showcased on CNN.

by Anonymousreply 58February 20, 2019 11:12 AM

R57, Nicolle Wallace is not in any way, 'ditzy'. The lady worked in the White House and has degrees. Shrill is a matter of opinion; that's very much in the same vein as judging female presidential candidates based on their so-called 'likeability', and just as irrelevant.

by Anonymousreply 59February 20, 2019 11:26 AM

Love the lady experts on MSNBC. Give me Jill Joyce and Barbara

by Anonymousreply 60February 20, 2019 11:42 AM

I’m loyal to Anderson Cooper as well. Jeffery Tobin and Rachel are top notch. Agree, Chris Mathews is unwatchable for me because he interrupts and any guest he has loses his/her train of thought.

by Anonymousreply 61February 20, 2019 11:45 AM

I remember a poster a couple of threads ago who commented that there is a really sinister backstory about the picture of Trump and the glowing orb and it would come out soon. I wonder if the poster meant that Saudi Arabia deal which was still going on behind the scenes?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 62February 20, 2019 11:48 AM

R62 that photo is sinister and comical at the same time. These people are like comic book villains, except they really do murder people, and yes I'm putting Trump right there with them. The American people need to wake up. Where the fuc is the outrage? Trump's in bed with monsters, and he and JAred are involved in a scheme to sell our nuclear technology to the Saudis? I think the grand scheme involved Jared's embrace of MBS rushing over there to share our top secret intelligence so that MBS could round up his wholefucking family and subordinates in a coup to take over. Now he's imprisoning people, murdering people and trying to get his hands on our technology. Jared should be in prison. He can embrace anyone he wants but he ought to do it bent over, in a jail cell.

by Anonymousreply 63February 20, 2019 12:05 PM

R62s photo is probably the creepiest and most frightening photo I've ever seen.

by Anonymousreply 64February 20, 2019 12:15 PM

Cuomo just likes having guests at whom he can yell. He's so macho and guido!

by Anonymousreply 65February 20, 2019 12:40 PM

I want to tickle Cuomo's balls, then enter his hole presented to me.

My throbbing cock will teach him manners by instilling them right into his wannabe macho / guido ass.

by Anonymousreply 66February 20, 2019 12:45 PM

Rampant ego runs in the Cuomo family. Andrew is worse.

On Lawrence O'Donnell's show last night, Carl Bernstein commented that Kellyanne calling McCabe a "known liar" was "a narrative in itself." That was way too mild. He should be able to make a stronger statement than that. The DC press people are generally too kind to her.

by Anonymousreply 67February 20, 2019 1:19 PM

They're kind to her because she feeds them. She's a leaker.

by Anonymousreply 68February 20, 2019 1:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 69February 20, 2019 1:33 PM

When you talk about the lady experts on MSNBC, don't forget about Maya Wiley and the blonde with the long hair who looks like she's dealing with a hangover. I love her. She is knowledgeable and smart and a hot mess. Like she hasn't slept in 48 hours preparing for court... They are all incredibly impressive. If I were forced to choose a favorite I couldn't. As far as I'm concerned MSNBC has the whole Mueller/RUssia thing locked down, and now that CNN has hired that disgusting woman to head up their political coverage, I guess MSNBC will also lock down the campaigns.

by Anonymousreply 78February 20, 2019 2:54 PM

That’s Cynthia Alksne, former federal prosecutor. Here’s her latest Tweet:

"Trump has put Whittaker in a vice. Whittaker knows Nadler has a witness that Trump called him to complain/harass about SDNY, perhaps including installing a friendly prosecutor. Trump denies any such call happened- fake news. Now he has to choose. Best of luck."

CNN has sucked balls for a very long time. Of course there are a few gems on there, but NO.

I have been hooked on MSNBC since 2015/16, and it only gets better and better. I have conflicting thoughts on Ari having Nunberg on. If someone is simply exploiting an evil person for bigger ratings, fuck that shit. But Nunberg has his tail between his legs right now, so he is more an object of interest, combined with the fact that Ari generally has on guests who would not get attention anywhere else, particularly POC, and I love him for that. Sure, Ari is smarmy as hell, but he also has a quirky sense of humor and is quite self-deprecating and self-aware at times, so it can actually be pleasant and witty.

Anyway, MSNBC is where it’s at right now. They have a VERY nice *balance* of representation of both sides, but the Conservatives they have on are not the insane racists, Trumpers. And quite frankly, the vast majority of Conservatives they have on have left the party and now call themselves independents. They are “thinking” Conservatives. I actually feel like we are seeing an interesting merging, a true alliance forming with all of the Thinking Conservatives who despise Trump and his base into our Progressive body. They are looking for a home, and I think they are starting to see the light that Progressive values are almost totally in sync with their values. It’s very interesting.

And to the poster who calls Nicolle a ditz, do you actually watch her??? She is the polar opposite of a ditz. The View fired her for not knowing what a Kardashian is!!!

Re: Ken Dilanian. Read about his tenure with the LA Times and how they "disowned" his muckraking ass for being a CIA "employee". She is no holds barred when it comes to Trump and the chicken shit GOP.

Can the investigations continue after he issues a report? Look. I want Trump indicted. And his family. I don't care if Pence is POTUS for 18 months. I don't even care if Pence pardons all of them. I do know once they are convicted they will be stripped of their assets. So they can travel to world penniless and see how many of their "friends" help them? THey will be persona non grata here. Pariahs. There will not be a restaurant or a store or an office complex they can go into and expect safety and courtesy. They will be literally hounded to death. Good.

Uranium One. Don't worry Lindsay Graham will get to the bottom of it. Along with those pesky emails. Still remember the repugs grilling her for almost 12 hours on Benghazi and spending $8 million. Their final report finding no significant wrongdoing was filed on Christmas Eve where it was basically buried. Don't really understand why they targeted Clinton other than she was running for president. She didn't control embassy security budget. Congress had denied her request for increased funding for security and she wasn't Secretary of Defense who was tasked with responding to the terrorist. Now, that was a witch hunt.

Attorney General Bill Barr is preparing to announce as early as next week the completion of Robert Mueller's Russia investigation, with plans for Barr to submit to Congress soon after a summary of Mueller's confidential report, according to people familiar with the plans.

The preparations are the clearest indication yet that Mueller is nearly done with his almost two-year investigation. The precise timing of the announcement is subject to change.

by Anonymousreply 97February 20, 2019 5:15 PM

If that is true, you're going to see a lot of action between now and then. I keep thinking about the judge in the Flynn trial refusing to sentence him and asking the prosecutors if they had thought of charging him with TREASON. And now, we find that Trump didn't even plan on firing Flynn nor asking him for resignation. He did it without their prodding. The judge knows a lot more than we do and it's interesting that he thought Flynn's crimes were TREASON.

by Anonymousreply 98February 20, 2019 5:18 PM

The imminent completion of the report seems to be at odds with indications that Mueller keeps uncovering potential criminality --and investigating it -- on at least a weekly basis. And, aren't there criminal prosecutions yet to occur?

Maybe Mueller is turning over the individual cases to the U.S. Attorneys Offices and the Criminal Division of DOJ to handle.

I wonder if Barr is pressuring Mueller to finish up. There is more than enough evidence of collusion and obstruction of justice already in public domain. McCabe has been hinting that there was more evident that he shared with the Gang of Eight that is more classified. Remember the look on their faces after emerging from that meeting. The republicans looked like they had seen a ghost. Diane Feinstein had to speak for them because they were so visibly upset that they couldn't speak. Those types of images tell me much of what I need to know. Barr may whitewash the report but we all know what really happened.

by Anonymousreply 107February 20, 2019 5:41 PM

r94, agree that Mueller would likely issue more indictments (Trump Jr at the very least) before the final report is issued. However, if he found nothing conclusive, maybe I'll be disappointed. I can't imagine there aren't more indictments coming unless the grand jury was not convinced there was enough evidence to indict.

by Anonymousreply 108February 20, 2019 5:44 PM

Tom Nichols:

The thing is, we know everything we needed to know about Trump's relationship with Russia, and how the Trump campaign was riddled with penetration by Russian intelligence. The only question left is what the President knew and when he knew it - but his base won't care.

In that sense, Trump accomplished what he set out to do: to make sure the GOP and 35% of the public will never accept SCO's findings, no matter what happens. But it gets worse: if the story is at all complicated and about money (and not about pee tapes), the public will yawn.

This is easily the greatest scandal in American history, but people have been primed to expect something spectacular, when in fact the compromise of a candidate and a campaign is a grubby, detailed, ugly business that isn't like a movie.

People keep asking "what will be in the Mueller Report?!" Guys, you already *know* what's in the report. The only missing piece is how much Trump directed or knew about, and how much leverage Putin has on him. (Not "if," but "how much.")

If Trump beats this, it will be in no small part due to the publication of the dossier -a raw intelligence file - whose contents shot public expectations through the roof.

The actual nightmare of the Russian penetration of the campaign and WH is *right in front of us*.

by Anonymousreply 113February 20, 2019 5:52 PM

CNBC: President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen was granted a two-month extension of his prison surrender date Wednesday after his attorney cited his need to continue recovering from recent shoulder surgery, and to prepare for upcoming testimony before three Congressional committees. Cohen will now enter prison on May 6 rather than the previously scheduled March 6.

by Anonymousreply 115February 20, 2019 5:59 PM

I suppose that's good news - at least he can't get out of testifying to Congress because of jail.

by Anonymousreply 116February 20, 2019 6:07 PM

Maybe Mueller just releases some cliff notes what exactly he has investigated so far? I can't see him being finished. Especially after all the evidence that was found in the raid of Roger Stone's properties.

by Anonymousreply 117February 20, 2019 6:24 PM

I wonder if the timing has something to do with Rosenstein leaving? Mueller giving us / the House and Senate some kind of amuse-bouche?

by Anonymousreply 118February 20, 2019 6:26 PM

I don't believe it. I think someone deliberately leaked that Mueller would be wrapping up soon in response to all the sensational stuff Mc Cabe is talking about. The timing of this leak is very suspicious. It may even be that Trump called Barr and exploded at him to wrap this stuff up. Doesn't mean it'll happen. And if it does I will be very disappointed. Because it will be obvious Barr forced Mueller to shut it down. Mueller has at least two months worth of work left to do. I can see him wrapping by May but not before. Keep your eyes on the SDNY because Barr is probably going to reach for them next. He is the only one who can shut down investigations. But as McCabe said recently, the FBI will keep the investigations going. Mueller has done a tremendous amount of work. Too much really to be denied. Trump wants this wrapped so it doesn't affect 2020. But with any luck his 2020 will be very different than his 2016. I can't wait to see the end of his Presidency.

by Anonymousreply 119February 20, 2019 6:37 PM

It is interesting that the Grand Jury apparently hasn't met since 1/24. If the grand jury doesn't have a quorum (which happens sometimes because jurors are sick or on vacation, etc.) the entire panel goes home. But for that to happen three weeks in a row is strange. Could it be they have all the sealed indictments, but are waiting for the right time to do it? As many have speculated, if Trump Jr is indicted, there's no telling what his daddy will do and it might make more sense to do multiple indictments on the same day.

by Anonymousreply 120February 20, 2019 6:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 125February 20, 2019 7:00 PM

R121 have you been away? Antarctica maybe? The Gang of 8 is the Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan at the time, The Senate Majority Leader, McConnell, the Senate Minority Leader who was Schumer for the Dems, and Pelosi who was Minority leader in the House at the time. That's four people. The other four consist of the Senate Chair of Intelligence Committee, Senator Burr, the Republican, Senator Warner his Democratic Second in command on Intel, and in the House Devin Nunes who was chair of the House Intelligence committee and the Second, Ranking member of House Intel, Adam Schiff.

McCabe said that he and Rosenstein were very concerned to see Nunes in the room for their briefing, because Nunes had allegedly recused himself pending an ethics investigation. But the rules/law said he could decide to be there if he wanted, and there was nothing they could do about it. So they left it alone, but they were concerned because they all knew Nunes was running to the WH telling them everything and coordinating with the WH.

The House Intel hearings were totally compromised. Unfortunately Devin Nunes is still on the House Intel committee as ranking member under Schiff. I suspect he is on a short leash, and is only there because House Minority Leader McCarthy wants him there. Nancy can force McCarthy to remove him but I think she is waiting for cause. Hope this helps. And do remember that McCarthy stalled in appointing the minority members to the House Intel committee. He either did it to be difficult, or because he isn't sure of what he is doing. I think it may have been a combination. McCarthy isn't very strong and Pelosi can handle him.

by Anonymousreply 127February 20, 2019 7:10 PM

What’s to say that Barr doesn’t throw the report in the garbage can? Congress confirmed him even thought they understood that ultimately, it’s up to him.

It will all come down to Barr. That is not the most comforting prospect.

by Anonymousreply 128February 20, 2019 7:26 PM

I'm not American so someone more knowledgeable please reply to my question.

If Barr decides NOT to release anything, can't Pelosi call Mueller to speak to a House Committee under oath in a public forum?

by Anonymousreply 129February 20, 2019 7:31 PM

Do they actually think that after all this time and attention and the endless, breathless reporting on the Mueller investigation, that they could get away with just dropping the report in the trash and saying “Nothing to see here, folks!”

There would be mass rioting and complete chaos.

[quote] R129: If Barr decides NOT to release anything, can't Pelosi call Mueller to speak to a House Committee under oath in a public forum?

Barr might, at worst, release a summary of his own making. He won’t refuse to release anything at all. Then, there will be a long drawn out process to get the original report to Congress, and to the people. The name of the game has been and will be to delay, obstruct, obfuscate. So, expect more of that. Eventually, it will come out, but much depends on getting the facts out before the next Presidential election in 2020.

by Anonymousreply 133February 20, 2019 7:51 PM

My dream would be for Mueller to indict enough Republican Senators, and soon, so as to throw the Senate into Democratic hands. Lindsay, McConnall, a few others - bliss!

by Anonymousreply 134February 20, 2019 7:54 PM

R129, I believe Pelosi can subpoena Mueller and make him testify. Some of it would be public some private. If there are ongoing national security concerns about exposing some of our active intelligence relationships, or our methods, then those would be redacted. But the rest of the report has to become public. If they don't release it, the media will get at it and then a lot of stuff regarding national security may leak as well. So to control the flow of information they ought to release the report. I hope they're smart enough to realize that.

I guarantee you, Trump's days are numbered. He will (1) Get indicted, they'll impeach him, convict him, and send him off to prison. (2) Be defeated in the 2020 election (3) Get re-elected, lose the Senate and the House, and get impeached. The longest he will remain in office is 2021. So take heart. We are going to get through this. All the king's horses and all the king's men won't be able to put Trumpty Dumpty together again. I just cannot see the Republican held Senate voting to convict him unless the evidence presented by Mueller is so compelling it leaves no doubt as to his guilt.

The Republicans don't want a prolonged public trial or public hearings that expose him and them. They want to end this. They cannot possibly believe that by crushing Mueller and his findings it will end. It won't. If the Republicans believe that, they are delusional. If they don't let the report become public, or if they edit it, or alter it in any way, after the steady stream of indictments and guilty pleas we have seen, the media and the public will keep this alive, we will remember it on election day, and the very thing they want to avoid will happen. It's going to have a negative impact on 2020. They think they can dodge this bullet, but they can't. Either way they are toast. They have been criminally negligent in their oversight and they have, in some cases been just as dirty as Trump.

by Anonymousreply 135February 20, 2019 7:55 PM

If I were McConnell, and I wrote this over a year ago, I would have a tiger team studying the best time, for him, I mean, to have Trump removed, if ever. I would assume that Trump is guilty and is that it all is going to come out, and then figure it out. For example, is it best to do it now, so that Pence gets almost 2 years as President before 2020, or is it better to do in a year, or whenever?

The Dems ought to be studying this too, but the Republicans have more control on the timing. Trump stays until the Republicans stop resisting. As soon as they stop fighting his removal, he is finished.

by Anonymousreply 137February 20, 2019 8:05 PM

The Republicans (such as McConnell) are resisting because they have been compromised and have active kompromot hanging over their heads. They don’t care about the future of the country, but their own self-preservation.

by Anonymousreply 138February 20, 2019 8:06 PM

The republicans looked like they had seen a ghost. Diane Feinstein had to speak for them because they were so visibly upset that they couldn't speak.

I remember all of that, and them coming out of that meeting and Grassley saying nothing and Feinstein looking stricken. That was the briefing McCabe has been talking about re: counterintelligence investigation into Trump?

by Anonymousreply 140February 20, 2019 8:14 PM

I remember certain dataloungers saying Feinstein looked stricken simply because she’s old, and not because there was anything shocking revealed in the meeting.

by Anonymousreply 141February 20, 2019 8:15 PM

The media keeps talking about Trump's base. But they over state it. The majority of Americans even now trust Mueller more than Trump by 58%. If the report were to come out, and a few more high level indictments, that % would jump to well over 60% of all Americans. Trump barely has 38% of eligible voters. He will have fewer once the report comes out if it's damaging to him, and how could it not be?

I think Mueller is tough, as McCabe says. I think Mueller has sealed indictments on Trump and members of his family. I think from time to time those indictments have been amended or revised, but are there in the courthouse. If Barr attempts to shut him down, I hope Mueller pulls the trigger, and unseals the indictments already on file with the court as his final act, and the House of Trump comes tumbling down.

This last revelation about Flynn and Jared implicated in attempting to cash in on selling nuclear technology to the Saudis even after being informed it's against the law will help Mueller decide how to play his final hand. I hope everything comes out and the burden is placed on us and on the Senate. "This is who your President is. Now deal with it." If we fail to act, on information the entire world has access to, it will damage us for generations to come.

One last thing. The media needs to stop casting this as a Republican vs. Democrat problem. It's not partisan politics as usual. This isn't a contest. This is a National Security crisis.

I’ll read Seth’s read (I love him), but I’ve heard the rumor CNN published today likely came from their new hire, that cunt Sarah Isgur Flores.

McCabe is on “shrill” (eye-roll) Nicolle Wallace’s show, and he’s wonderful. A fantastic interview as always from Nicolle.

And I’m falling in love with McCabe more every day. I don’t understand how he voted Republican for so long, though.

Which means Mitch McConnell was in on what Trump likes to call the "witch hunt."

I haven’t watched a single thing on CNN in the past 2 years. I can’t believe anyone can stand them and their six-person panel shout-fests. Garbage.

MSNBC all the way. And now with Sarah Isgur Flores on board, even less reason to trust them.

by Anonymousreply 153February 20, 2019 8:45 PM

McCabe shared something new today on MSNBC. Two things. There was already a counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign, and they just added the President to it as an additional subject. Both as the subject (suspicions he was acting as an agent of Russia) of the counterintelligence probe, and as an obstructor of justice. This would make it extremely difficult for anyone to close the case, says Frank Figliuzzi.

Second, Trump was trying to get Comey to fire McCabe since he became president. In his initial 4-page, rambling draft letter justifying firing Comey, he includes “he wouldn’t fire McCabe” as one of his reasons for wanting to fire Comey. This was well before the IG opened their probe into McCabe. So Trump wanted McCabe gone all along because Trump was being investigated.

by Anonymousreply 154February 20, 2019 8:49 PM

Here's a thought...McCabe knows the truth. He has seen all the raw evidence, the phone calls, the intelligence from other countries, the emails, etc. Granted, the FBI only investigates. It doesn't indict. That's for the DOJ. However, would he be putting himself out there making the kind of accusations that he is making if he had any doubt as to what the actual truth was. His credibility would be shot if Mueller comes back and says, "Nothing to see here." Same with Comey and John Brennen. There are enough people in positions to know the truth who aren't back peddling but rather doubling down right now. Gives me comfort when I think of things that way.

by Anonymousreply 155February 20, 2019 8:54 PM

In one of the interviews, McCabe says that Sessions told Christopher Wray (current FBI head appointed by Trump) to fire McCabe before his pension kicked in but Wray didn't do it and McCabe took leave instead. I know in the corporate world it is next to impossible to fire someone when they are on leave but Trump managed to do it just hours before his pension would have kicked in. Trump is really vindictive that way. I would think McCabe could sue the government for illegal termination. In business, there would certainly be a lawsuit if a corporation fired an employee hours before their pension kicked in.

by Anonymousreply 156February 20, 2019 8:59 PM

Lindsey is doing just that as he's gettingvplowed by well endowed rough trade, r151.

by Anonymousreply 157February 20, 2019 9:00 PM

I never fully understood the logic behind the accusations that Trump was making against McCabe's wife. She took donations from a PAC run by former Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe. Somehow this was tied to Hillary Clinton. Trump kept saying that she took money from Hillary Clinton. I know McAuliffe and Clinton are friends but isn't that stretching it a bit.

by Anonymousreply 158February 20, 2019 9:05 PM

McCabe's wife received the money to run, she ran, she lost and then a few MONTHS later McCabe was assigned to the Hillary case. There was no connection.

by Anonymousreply 159February 20, 2019 9:13 PM

I don't think Mueller is close to finishing the investigation. The heavy indictments are yet to come.

by Anonymousreply 160February 20, 2019 9:17 PM

The CNN reporting is just a diversion tactic to take the narrative away from McCabe.....notice everyone is now chasing the shiny new object.

by Anonymousreply 161February 20, 2019 9:21 PM

The CNN reporting is just a diversion tactic to take the narrative away from McCabe.....notice everyone is now chasing the shiny new object.

by Anonymousreply 162February 20, 2019 9:22 PM

McCabe is indeed suing the government for that exact reason r156.

by Anonymousreply 163February 20, 2019 9:26 PM

And squealing, r151.

Like a pig stuck in a fence, or a border wall that looks like a fence.

by Anonymousreply 165February 20, 2019 9:47 PM

CNN doesn't think there are any further indictments! So Jared and Don Jr walk? What the hell happened?

by Anonymousreply 166February 20, 2019 10:05 PM

How is that even possible? Corsi hasn’t been indicted yet and he has admitted to lying to the F.B.I.

R150 R153 R154

by Anonymousreply 168February 20, 2019 10:07 PM

R166, R167, this is a line being pushed today. No one knows what's going on.

by Anonymousreply 169February 20, 2019 10:09 PM

The only question is why anyone watches or believes CNN at this point, r166.

by Anonymousreply 170February 20, 2019 10:10 PM

Sadly, tRump and the lt are getting away with it al

by Anonymousreply 171February 20, 2019 10:20 PM

McCabe on Nicolle Wallaces show was FANTASTIC! Do try to watch it listen. By the way he's training for the iron man, mm mmm mm. McCabe really worked it right after Comey was fired so no one could shut this investigative train down. He's going to be remembered for the plan he laid out very strategically for the good of our country.

by Anonymousreply 172February 20, 2019 10:20 PM

If Donald Junior slides, something very stinky is going on. He lied to Congress. He was eager (I Love It!) to meet with the Russians who promised 'dirt' on HRC), then he gave a false story.

by Anonymousreply 173February 20, 2019 10:21 PM

CNN is pushing this 'winding down', 'the end is very near' story. MSNBC is way more guarded in allowing that narrative.

Trump bashes CNN as "fake news" more than any TV news outlet. Is Zucker trying to please Trump somehow? The hiring of Sarah Isgur Flores is strange.

by Anonymousreply 174February 20, 2019 10:34 PM

Zucker, as reprehensible as this may seem, may realize that Donald isn't going anywhere and he's better off trying to join them.

by Anonymousreply 175February 20, 2019 10:39 PM

Honestly, these Trump guys have done some dirty deeds and broken the law. CNN producers have always been naive fools with little shinning faces.

by Anonymousreply 176February 20, 2019 10:43 PM

Why would you want to join a racist criminal and a traitor? I certainly don't understand that attitude.

by Anonymousreply 177February 20, 2019 10:46 PM

McCabe is my hero. Thank God he spoke up with tube truth.

by Anonymousreply 178February 20, 2019 10:47 PM

The irony could be that the Mueller report is the shiny object everyone is looking to chase down....while Trump gets toasted and roasted by the SDNY.

The only thing that Trump cares about is money. Well, being charged with money laundering, racketeering /RICO and losing every last dime would be a fate worse than just seeing his name in the Mueller report.

Who was Trump's accountant again?? Isn't he the one who agreed to a deal? And isn't that the way they got Al Capone?

by Anonymousreply 179February 20, 2019 10:47 PM

Ugh, now WaPo is reporting it...

I trust the Post, but on the other hand, it's all just follow-the-leader at this point.

by Anonymousreply 181February 20, 2019 10:51 PM

[quote]If Barr decides NOT to release anything, can't Pelosi call Mueller to speak to a House Committee under oath in a public forum?

There are several ways they could make the info public. Apparently significant parts of the Mueller report are already out there in public court filings, and handed over to Congress. They could release an unredacted version, or they could just leak the damn thing.

The concept that *that* report could get buried is laughable. Remember, we're dealing with the Keystone Kops in the WH.

by Anonymousreply 182February 20, 2019 10:58 PM

There is a want-to-see factor that can't be ignored. And, again, only the people who are ride or die for Trump (a minority) will not find something effective there.

by Anonymousreply 183February 20, 2019 11:02 PM

Washington Post first paragraph -

Justice Department officials are preparing for the end of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s nearly two-year investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and believe a confidential report could be issued in coming days, according to people familiar with the discussions.

by Anonymousreply 184February 20, 2019 11:32 PM

So no further indictments?

by Anonymousreply 185February 20, 2019 11:37 PM

Not buying that it's done, I think this is a distraction by rethugs to thwart the McCabe media tour.

by Anonymousreply 186February 20, 2019 11:40 PM

Think about this. Yesterday every news outlet was talking about the NYT explosive article about Trump ordering Whitaker to get his appointed U.S. attorney from the SDNY, who recused himself, to unrecuse himself and take over the investigations in the SDNY. Whitaker refused. Then he was constantly interfering trying to shut down Mueller. The other news yesterday involves Flynn and JAred trying to sell nuclear reactor technology to the Saudis illegally.THEN the other news yesterday was Andrew McCabe all over the TV charmingly talking about Trump as a threat to our national security and possibly a Russian Asset. That was yesterday. Today, it's all about Mueller getting ready to wrap up. and the other line I've seen repeatedly is what a great guy AG Barr is. Integrity for days. Outstanding citizen. And Trump is going to let Barr decide about the Mueller report. And they are "leaking" that we may just get a "summary" of the report. Now you tell me. Knowing what we still know is out there, does anyone here really believe that Mueller is wrapping up in a week or two? Has BArr shut down any indictments of the family? What about Bannon and PArscale? Flynn isn't finished yet. New information from Manafort and Stone is being developed. Donald, Jr. Lied to Congress. I'm praying that there are sealed indictments with Trump's name on them. Preibus lied, too.

P.S. I saw McCabe with Nicole and it was wonderful. If you haven't seen it find it on Twitter and watch it. He wants to get out and do some speaking. He's going to discover he has quite a following among the Gays of DL. My dream is to have Andrew McCabe get hired on as a special consultant and legal analyst on MSNBC, so he can discuss the impeachment proceedings as they unfold.

by Anonymousreply 187February 20, 2019 11:51 PM

Yes, the McCabe interview with Nicolle was great, as was the last 20 minutes with Frank Figliuzzi, Matt Miller, Joyce Vance and Chuck Rosenberg. Here’s the whole show...

R93, if it comes true, will it be my forever longed-for 15 minutes of crispy, crunchy, mouth-watering but organic and gluten-free fame? It’s delish! Will I be famous HERE, right in my cozy, snuggly cocoon, aka the DL? Will all of you look up to me? Will you come to me when you need sage advice on your dysfunctional family or sound stock market predictions? When you’re in lust with the pool guy at your apartment complex, will you ask me for relationship advice? He’s just not that into you! Will you count on me to tell you when you’re partying too much? You are! You are out of control! Do you trust me when I tell you those earrings do *not* pair well with that particular caftan? Will you subconsciously copy me because you realize, way deep deep down, you want to BE me? Well, there’s only one of me darling. Will you talk about how HOT I must be in real-life, and create myths about how gracefully, how nimbly I dodged my attackers and naysayers on the Treason threads? Oh, of course, some of you will be jealous, that is to be expected. I know that. I can’t escape their venomous envy. No, I do *not* have to apologize for my friendship with KYLIE!!!! Or CAITLYN!!! Their jealousy comes with my fame, no? I’ll tolerate their nasty quips as long as I can, but then maybe, I won’t? I don’t have to be ALWAYS so nice and people-pleasing, fuck that shit!! Why should I — I’m the mother fucking Feb Troll! I’m actually too good for half of you. You’re beneath me. You make me sneer. I sneer! Haha! There I go, forgetting where I came from.....I’m still Jenny from the Block, don’t be fooled by da rocks dat I got! I’ll do it for you r93, I’ll stay humble for you, my love. I won’t keep forgetting where I came from.....no, no, no.

Anyhoo.......I do now believe that the stories we are *now* hearing about Mueller wrapping up are pushing *their* agenda. But we don’t have to fear anything — he’s going down, my bitches, he is going d.o.w.n. When *exactly* is he going down? Who the fuck knows? When I originally stated the story on Mueller releasing this month, I didn’t have any agenda, I was simply repeating what multiple and credible sources were reporting, nothing more, nothing less. It felt real, so that’s what I shared. More than likely I was snowed — it’s hard to know these days what stories are legit, too many players with too many agendas.

Is it possible that Mueller could have numerous sealed indictments that are set with “triggers” meaning a set of circumstances that will then require a court to unseal them? Does Mueller need to be formally seated in his current position for indictments to be unsealed and arrests made? Anyone know?

What if Mueller got a court to agree that if certain things happen, like say Trump leaving office for ANY reason, that the indictment on Trump automatically opens? Is this plausible or no? I do agree with everyone here, it truly is hard to imagine Mueller being done this month. They JUST arrested Stone afterall. The poster who maintains that May feels realistic, I agree. And May seems too soon as well.

Sidebar — I believe r109 has the most poignant post on this thread thus far. McCabe will go down as a hero. Nothing can stop the report now, they’ve put all kinds of safeguards in place already, that’s why Whittaker wouldn’t obey daddy with the SDNY. They all know their goose is cooked. Literally the *only* thing the GOP can do is keep fighting on the snowballs chance this plays out “less worse” for them, and that is what we are seeing right now. They have maybe a 5% chance that they will skate through and remain in power unscathed — they will not stop fighting. Seeing Trump cheat his way to victory has only emboldened them.

That’s all I’ve got, great thread as usual.

P.S. — I hate Bernie too......

by Anonymousreply 193February 21, 2019 2:42 AM

OOps, F&F R187 by mistake, meant to W&W. Great post.

by Anonymousreply 194February 21, 2019 2:50 AM

Rachel's opening was exciting. Like a novel. How the Obama administration, up to its last minutes, worked to preserve intel about the election Russia-Trump etc. Creating a trail distributed across agencies that an investigators could follow.

by Anonymousreply 195February 21, 2019 2:52 AM

I bet Barr shut it down. We'll need to investigate him in the next administration.

by Anonymousreply 196February 21, 2019 2:53 AM

And what exactly makes you say that, hmmmm r196?

by Anonymousreply 197February 21, 2019 2:55 AM

The House needs pick up the reins on investigating I guess.

by Anonymousreply 198February 21, 2019 2:56 AM

You mean the dozens of subpoenas and demands for information are nothing r198? The House is dominating right now.

by Anonymousreply 199February 21, 2019 3:06 AM

R199, I didn't say they're "nothing." There are likely lines of inquiry they'll need to pursue if Mueller can no longer do so.

by Anonymousreply 200February 21, 2019 3:08 AM

Fair enough, my bad r200.

by Anonymousreply 201February 21, 2019 3:11 AM

it is probably useless to speculate on what Mueller will or will not do. we shall see, then we shall deal.

the important thing is to always remember: Trump is a syphalitic old whore of Putin and should be chased out of office as soon as possible.

by Anonymousreply 202February 21, 2019 3:11 AM

He is a traitor, and so are all who wish him well.

by Anonymousreply 203February 21, 2019 3:12 AM

the thing is, at this point, we know, we friggin know, from Comey, from McCabe, from Seth Abramson, from every bitch who is paying attention. He is a traitor, a Russian Agent, a whore for Putin. What the fuck are we waiting for at this point?

by Anonymousreply 204February 21, 2019 3:19 AM

The wheels of justice turn slowly r204, but they do turn.

by Anonymousreply 205February 21, 2019 3:22 AM

I am a bit disappointed that the news of Mueller being finished with his investigation may come from the Trump team. I was hoping Trump would be all paranoid that his own kids and Jared didn't get charged with anything (yet) because they turned on him and told Mueller everything.

by Anonymousreply 206February 21, 2019 3:38 AM

There is zero way this report is coming soon or final. Maybe he will lay out the big shit, to remove the threat, then it will be years and years of investigations. If this is as deep as we already see it is, there is no way any of this will wrap up soon.

by Anonymousreply 207February 21, 2019 3:42 AM

It is patently absurd to think this would be “wrapped up” next week. I simply don’t believe it. There are too many other shoes that need to drop.

by Anonymousreply 208February 21, 2019 3:47 AM

It's all "Look over THERE!" distraction to take attention away from the real, breaking news about Trump's, and his associates', crimes. The media is not your friend and it doesn't has your best interest in mind. They want your attention and they get that with new breaking news about anything even deliberate distractions and misinformation.

by Anonymousreply 209February 21, 2019 3:47 AM

Oh please. Trump's team of morons have announced/leaked this every other month for the last year and a half. I swear, these pieces of shit and the head turd himself think that if they say it it will pressure Mueller to do what he says because that's how the head turd's life used to work. That form of Turd's life is over!

by Anonymousreply 210February 21, 2019 3:47 AM

Shame on CNN for doing Trump's bidding to make this news (about Mueller's investigation ending) seem legit.

by Anonymousreply 211February 21, 2019 3:49 AM

No doubt in my mind Trump pressured Barr, and preemptively leaked that the investigation was wrapping up. Barr probably told Mueller he couldn't stall too much longer and he hoped Mueller was coming to a point where he could prepare a report. Mueller can drag this out another 3-4 weeks. We might have to wait until the end of March. But in the mean time more indictments can be filed, and others unsealed.

We all know Donald Trump, Jr. ought to be indicted. If he is not, if he walks, then we know it was because Barr shut this whole thing down. But it also means that Mc Cabe's plan to safeguard the investigation,, along with Mueller's expert operations, will allow people to be investigated and charged with crimes in other venues.

I have a feeling Mueller's report will be a scathing judgement of Trump. Mueller could conceivably be so critical of Trump, even to calling him an unindicted co conspirator, that the Congress will be forced to address his failings. If the Democrats take the Senate, and we really must, then Trump will get impeached and be out of there before the end of 2021. IF he is re elected.

by Anonymousreply 212February 21, 2019 3:50 AM

I really can't believe what CNN has become. What happened? Were they bought by someone at some point?

by Anonymousreply 213February 21, 2019 3:51 AM

They are just telling Pres Bone Spurs it is ending by next week. Just telling the child what it wants to hear.

by Anonymousreply 214February 21, 2019 3:52 AM

Why would anyone, including Trump, think that Mueller would let himself get pushed into a corner with such an announcement of him being finished? Mueller is ready when Muller issues an official press release that he's ready.

by Anonymousreply 215February 21, 2019 3:58 AM

Mueller will likely just drop this shit on that bitch like a hot mic and walk away. He isn't announcing anything. He doesn't roll like that.

by Anonymousreply 216February 21, 2019 4:01 AM

I don't think Mueller is done either, R215, but the reality is that Barr has the power to order him to end the investigation and he has to end it. I hope Barr has some honor but his past performance covering up for the previous war criminal Repugs doesn't give me a lot of hope.

by Anonymousreply 217February 21, 2019 4:04 AM

Couldn’t a stuffed animal win against him in 2020? That’s why I’m not to picky about the dem nominee. Literally anybody could beat him. Everyone has had enough of the crazy talk.

by Anonymousreply 220February 21, 2019 4:06 AM

If Mueller briefed Barr on the seriousness of the case and Barr ordered him to shut down, I have absolutely no doubt that Mueller would charge Barr with obstruction....He wouldnt be the first AG charged with a crime.

by Anonymousreply 221February 21, 2019 4:25 AM

I could see Barr instructing Mueller to outsource some parts of the investigation to other entities and sabotage it that way with Mueller not being able to control the flow of data and information sharing.

by Anonymousreply 222February 21, 2019 4:30 AM

the good news is that Congress will be briefed regardless and someone will fucking leak it if Barr doesn't release it or blocks us from seeing the most damning parts

by Anonymousreply 229February 21, 2019 6:41 AM

by Anonymousreply 230February 21, 2019 6:50 AM

Do we honestly think that Barr in good conscience could have asked him to stop? I know most Republicans have no conscience - that’s why we’re where we are

by Anonymousreply 231February 21, 2019 6:51 AM

There are people whose opinions I respect on Twitter who think that Barr will do the right thing for the United States and rule of law.

Likewise John Roberts. It only takes 2-3 Republicans with a shred of conscience to tip the whole thing over.

by Anonymousreply 232February 21, 2019 7:07 AM

I am bothered by the timing, seven days after William Barr takes office the Mueller investigation is wrapping up? When Barr came into office stating that Trump shouldn't have been investigated prior to his appointment.

I sure hope if Barr forced Mueller to wrap this up, that Mueller will tell us, but so far Mueller has told us virtually nothing.

by Anonymousreply 233February 21, 2019 7:22 AM

Rachel's been saying that some of the info that Mueller's passed on to SDNY (Federal court in NYC) *might* result in the SDNY indicting Trumpy. Like, really truly indicting the motherfucker.

by Anonymousreply 234February 21, 2019 7:26 AM

If it turns out Mueller gave all these people who committed crimes immunity and only ends up getting Stone and Manafort jail time I am going to be pissed. Flynn sold out our country and is a traitor, same with Rick Gates and what about Kushner and Trump Jr.

Trump will pardon Stone and Manafort after he loses in 2020.

by Anonymousreply 235February 21, 2019 7:29 AM

Barr is the GOP fixer/cleaner so of course his first priority is to foil Mueller. That's what he's hired to do... save Trump's fat ass from the fire. But Trump has implicated himself in so many dirty dealings, Barr can't block every avenue of investigation.

by Anonymousreply 236February 21, 2019 7:32 AM

I'd rather think that Barr is leading Trump to the slaughter, but keeps the GOP clean by blocking any mention of their involvement in any legal way.

by Anonymousreply 237February 21, 2019 7:44 AM

Barr surely must realize he shouldn't compromise his future legal career (muchless his country, and his own freedom from serving jail time) to bail out Kompromatted Cheetolini. If he is a Republican who cares about his party's survival, he should, likewise, avoid bailing those party members who are up to their eyeballs in tRump and Daddy Vladdy's shit.

by Anonymousreply 238February 21, 2019 8:20 AM

by Anonymousreply 239February 21, 2019 9:29 AM

Cohen just got another reprieve for "shoulder surgery." Flynn has yet to be imprisoned. Junior Mint is known to have lied to Congress, under oath. Manafort hasn't been sentenced yet. Kushner's treason with SA/MBS was recently uncovered. Etc.

Treason, conspiracy, money laundering, perjury, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, flouting of the Emoluments Clause, income tax evasion (wait for it), accessory before and after the fact of murder, ....

Team Mueller will not be heading to the showers next week.

by Anonymousreply 240February 21, 2019 10:38 AM

The lectionary reading this morning was psalm 37:1-11, 39-40.

Godspeed Mr. Mueller

by Anonymousreply 241February 21, 2019 11:10 AM

Trump will likely try to pardon himself after he loses in 2020 but there are so many charges at state level - he can’t possibly pardon all of these people. The states will go after them with an even stronger resolve if they’re pardoned at a federal level. The Dems had better go at this with a Truth & Reconciliation Committee because nobody wants to see all of this swept under the carpet. It’s important that the full extent and scope of the criminality both within the Trump administration and the GOP is exposed. Otherwise, what’s the point of proceeding with government?

by Anonymousreply 242February 21, 2019 11:17 AM

I can't help but wonder what Israel thinks of Jared Kushner giving the fucking SAUDIS intelligence regarding nukes...

by Anonymousreply 243February 21, 2019 11:43 AM

Bibi and the Likudniks don't care if Jared is in bed with the Saudis--as long as Iran remains the common enemy (US, SA, Israel).

by Anonymousreply 244February 21, 2019 12:11 PM

R244 I don’t know about that. I think Saudi Arabia, if given the opportunity, would love to just eliminate Israel from the map, as would other Middle East countries. I can’t imagine Israel being ok with giving them nukes. But I’d love to hear your perspective—admittedly I’m not an expert in Middle East policy, so I freely admit I may not be informed on this.

To be honest I don't believe any Republican gives a shit about his or her legacy. It's all about how much money and power they can accumulate now which can keep them warm and cozy after they retire. I highly doubt any of the GOPers (Nunes, McConnell, Ryan) will face actual jail time or even charges for aiding and abetting Trump and his associates.

The Saudis' desire for nukes presumably has more to do with their enmity towards Iran, which was becoming a nuclear power until the treaty stopped it (and the Iranians probably were using their nuclear progress as leverage to get a treaty and more economic power). So Jared and the Trumpies' help in making Saudi Arabia nuclear, combined with the rejection of the treaty, would just escalate the arms race between Saudi Arabia and Iran—thus giving the Republicans more reasons to attack Iran (and strengthen Saudi Arabia).

Their party is dragging America and the world into a maelstrom of a shitstorm.

by Anonymousreply 250February 21, 2019 1:13 PM

r238, What future legal career? This is it for Barr, he's in his 60's and I'm sure this AG job is probably the end of the road for him. He has no reason to worry about any future career in law. As for legacy, if Trump made it lucrative enough for him to come on as his AG and do this, I don't think he's too worried about any legacy.

R241 And Psalm 91 as well for Robert Swan Mueller III, Purple Heart Marine. The Washingtonian wrote aboyr him as the ultimate G Man: URL too long to post, but I know he will uphold this vow:

"I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same.”

Hang in there! They're not finished with Flynn. He will be charged with more crimes and if he also lied to the Mueller investigation, he will get a sentence reflecting that. The Mueller team didn't want to alert other people they hope to charge, by going after Flynn for bigger offenses. Some of the things Flynn will get charged with implicates other bigger fish. I have confidence in Mueller. It'll happen. And I believe in my heart that Mueller has Trump on audio. He knows Trump is a Russian asset. I agree with the person up thread who said Barr may let Mueller get Trump, as long as Trump leaves members of Congress alone. He is there to protect the GOP not Trump.

by Anonymousreply 255February 21, 2019 1:47 PM

I just can’t believe that after all this, it’s now up to a fat man who looks like Fred Flintstone to decide what the public gets to know about the biggest political scandal in our nation’s history. Something is really wrong with that.

by Anonymousreply 256February 21, 2019 1:52 PM

Remember....Flynn, Gates, etc who were given deals....if they didnt offer info that could convict someone UPFRONT, then they wouldnt have received a deal. So Mueller has the goods. This is nothing but a tactic to take attention away from all the negative news over the past few days along with McCabes book.

by Anonymousreply 257February 21, 2019 1:54 PM

[quote]Reminder: every page of Ken Starr’s report was released to the public.

Yes, but that was about a truly earthshaking, nation-destroying issue: a man lying about getting a blow job. The Mueller Report is only about the President Of The United States selling out our country for the sake of securing Russian financing for his family business. Big whoop.

by Anonymousreply 258February 21, 2019 1:56 PM

The main take away from all this chatter is,e must win in 2020. We MUST hold the House, take the Senate, and get Trump out of the White House.

We also need to vote down ballot and elect more Democratic legislatures and governors. This is critical.

Please read this article It is important for us to be aware of what's happening i plain sight.

R259, you're absolutely right. I'm with whomever the Dems nominate for president. We're unlikely to survive as a democracy if Cheeto has another 4 years of this horror.

by Anonymousreply 260February 21, 2019 1:59 PM

Why is Barr’s son-in-Law working in the White House. Doesn’t it seem like this whole nightmare has way to many family entanglements? Every position seems to have a “chain migration” of various family members who are either given positions of authority within the administration or are somehow receiving perks and kickbacks in the private sector. It’s all just so VENAL.

by Anonymousreply 261February 21, 2019 2:03 PM

VENAL seems to be word of the year, again.

by Anonymousreply 262February 21, 2019 2:08 PM

I agree R261. That's the one thin, Barr's son-in-law, that caused me to worry greatly about Barr's mission and his goal. But then I thought about it. I do believe that Barr may not block Mueller so much as make sure someone competent is in the WH Special Counsel's office to process pardons. Because that was Barr's specialty for the Bushes during Iran Contra, I believe.

Maybe we're looking at this wrong. Maybe it's about Pardons. Barr is not a fool, he won't endanger his own Law license or break the law with Mueller looking over his shoulder, but he has been down this road with pardons before.

Since McGahn left the WH legal operation has suffered. They can't find their asses with both hands. Barr's son might be going over there to help process all the pardons after Mueller drops his final batch of indictments.

I have to laugh at Trump trotting out his 2nd Korean Summit to coincide with Michael Cohen's testimony to Congress. He thinks the optics of him & Kim will push Cohen off the front pages, but it won't. We know Trump stages photo ops. Fuck him.

by Anonymousreply 263February 21, 2019 2:13 PM

With the right Dem president (i.e., not someone who's actually interested in "unifying" the country, a "reset" with Russia, "working with" the GOP in Congress), the investigation will resume — and expand — in 2021.

by Anonymousreply 264February 21, 2019 2:25 PM

I agree, R264. The one thing the next DEMOCRATIC President, elected in 2020, has to do right out of the gate, is send a huge signal to the international community that we will never again tolerate such interference, and we are serious about cyber attacks, etc. Fuck a "reset" with Putin. We should indict that fucker in absentia, and tell the Russians to get rid of him.

by Anonymousreply 265February 21, 2019 2:48 PM

My biggest fear is that Dems will let it go so that the country can heal. I’m sorry, but until the wounds are exposed to the air, nothing can heal. EVERYTHING needs to be revealed.

by Anonymousreply 266February 21, 2019 2:48 PM

What R263 said.

by Anonymousreply 267February 21, 2019 2:50 PM

R266, yes I agree. I hate that "we have to let the country come together and heal" BS. It doesn't work and it just leaves us vulnerable. We need to pour billions into retribution against Russia. Not military necessarily - other means.

by Anonymousreply 271February 21, 2019 3:14 PM

Pinhead Zippy Roger Stone makes me sick. The judge is going to be too merciful towards him for that crosshairs stunt.

To veterans of other administrations, the act of compelling interns to sign these types of NDAs would seem odd, if not downright unenforceable or legally dubious. To this White House, it’s standard operating procedure.

I had this fight with a Trump supporting friend from high school again recently and when I asked her if she would vote for Trump again in 2020...she claimed that she never voted for him the first time. She claims that she was pretending to be a supporter to “see how far you would take this.” She has turned herself into a “victim of leftist intolerance” (her words). This is a person who was one of my best friends during high school.

Like, I can’t. A potential preview of what some of these Deplorables might float when the avalanche truly takes off down the mountain.

r266, Obama's biggest mistake was not pursuing W Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld for war crimes. If he had allowed them to be pursued, those fuckers McConnell and Trump would not have been empowered to go after the weak Obama.

Decency gets you nowhere with Republicans.

Trump should be pursued until the day Baron Trump dies.

by Anonymousreply 285February 21, 2019 4:10 PM

Does Putin feel like he has carte Blanche to threaten the U.S. now because he has Trump completely by the balls? He has put our entire country at risk. I am just baffled that this is being allowed to continue. It’s really dangerous.

by Anonymousreply 286February 21, 2019 4:11 PM

[quote]Decency gets you nowhere with Republicans.

He was not being decent, Obama was being arrogant. The Clinton people, who were now part of his administration, were on his ass telling him to direct the justice department to investigate but he refused.

by Anonymousreply 287February 21, 2019 4:12 PM

I agree, R285. Say Obama was never president, but we still had Trump now. If Trump were indicted after leaving office, and there were a President Obama in 2021, I wouldn't be surprised if Obama would pardon Trump "to heal the nation and come together."

I want someone who's grind him into the ground.

by Anonymousreply 288February 21, 2019 4:12 PM

No way Obama would pardon trump for his treasonous behavior. This is a far cry from lying about a blow job, it's not pardonable.

by Anonymousreply 289February 21, 2019 4:28 PM

But is the U.S. really planning to put more missiles in Europe right now? It feels like hollow posturing. Putin has what he wants right now. When Trump is out and assuming the next leader actually takes a stand, it would be too late for Putin to be in the cockpit. Seriously, just posturing.

by Anonymousreply 290February 21, 2019 4:40 PM

R286, im thinking a manufactured arms race = $$$$$$$

by Anonymousreply 291February 21, 2019 4:41 PM

Sorry, that was word vomit. Putin has what he wants now, so all he has to do is make hollow threats. Once Trump is out, it will be too late for him to act on them.

by Anonymousreply 292February 21, 2019 4:41 PM

John Dean (yes, that John Dean):

I asked Cohen’s attny what he’ll say? @LannyDavis responded while my cell was off: “He will pull the curtain back and we will hear true stories of Trump’s complicity in crimes, and his immoral, bigoted, and morally vacant character in specific, detailed personal anecdotes.”

by Anonymousreply 293February 21, 2019 4:51 PM

There are some people in government, both elected officials and career civil servants who believe we need to look strong before the rest of the world ( IA gree) and to do that we have to unite, "put this behind us" and move on. (I strongly disagree. I believe the rest of the world already knows Putin fucked us in the ass with a hot poker, and Trump the imbecilic clown has been standing there, center stage with his pants down hoping people don't notice his flaccid penis with Vlad's face tattooed on it. So putting on a front and acting like we're moving on, is bullsht. The whole world needs to see real strength. They need to see us crush all the fuckers who did this to us beginning at home.

by Anonymousreply 294February 21, 2019 4:56 PM

I hate how gently courts treat people like Stone. Some old white guy doesn't have to post bail, gets to make himself the victim, disparages law enforcement and the court, and now he's being politely asked questions after threatening a judge.

Is it because he's old, white, and has money? Is it because he's famous now?

Everything is such a joke to him. Everything is a performance. Nothing is his fault. He didn't do X or Y -- his volunteers did it. Endless. Only prison will ends this nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 386February 21, 2019 9:36 PM

Here’s the NYT story on the Mueller report:

"The new attorney general, William P. Barr, is preparing for the special counsel to deliver a report in coming weeks on the results of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, two officials briefed on the Justice Department’s preparations said. President Trump’s legal team and other allies of the administration have incorrectly predicted an imminent end to the investigation by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, for well over a year."

"The submission of a report by Mr. Mueller would effectively mean his office is closing down. [...] But active cases that have not yet been brought to a conclusion would likely continue. New prosecutors from outside the special counsel’s operation could pick up cases that remain in progress. And some cases that spun off from Mr. Mueller’s investigation — including those being conducted by the United States attorney’s office in Manhattan involving Michael D. Cohen and Mr. Trump’s business — would continue unaffected."

Yes to r257! This is what I keep coming back to when I begin to feel disheartened and desperate that nothing will come of all this 2 years of edging. Why would Mueller give Flynn a get out of jail free card if he didn’t deliver the goods. His crimes are very, very serious ones. He would not have given him immunity if all he handed over was Manafort or some other lesser actor. It just does not compute!!

r389.....also remember that although Flynn, Gates, etc received deals, none of those deals were specific as to the Russian Conspiracy. Ive been saying all along that when the big enchilada is revealed, we will see additional charges for those individuals. The players in this are so dirty that Mueller didnt need to negotiate the main charges away to get them to cooperate...Flynns ties to Russia are deeper, and he was involved in a kidnapping plot for Turkey as well as other things that put him...and his son...in a great deal of jeopardy. Were talking death penalty shit. Flynn flipped to save his son, Gates, his family. When each pled, they laid out the crimes they commited...including the crimes they werent charged with...ex: Flynns Judge asking why he wasnt charged with Treason after reading Flynns sentencing briefs, delaying his sentencing. Mark my words...we will see this rogues gallery again...and they wont be getting a slap on the wrist, cooperation or not. They can hope for leniency, but thats about it. This isnt about the campaign...its much much bigger.

Here we are today in the USA and I'm not so sure we couldn't let it happen here. I never in my wildest nightmares would have thought this thing we have as "president" would ever get elected or have a following. Such an obvious liar, immoral sociopathic narcissist. Yet it happened.

The crooked republican NC congressional candidate didn’t exactly call for a new election on his own.

It didn’t get much attention, but the fraud hearing has been nonstop bananas all the way through. Everybody was ratting out everybody else. It was a jaw-dropping free-for-all. The candidate’s own son ratted out his dad in open court.

The candidate spend the last 3 months adamantly insisting that he was completely innocent, and there were not enough votes affected to alter the race. Those were his two main talking points.

Now keep in mind that he and the other NC repugs have spent the last year campaigning against evil democrats and their cheating voter fraud ways.

And the the son comes on the stand and drops the bomb that he knew all along.

So today, after trying to white-knuckle his way tough another minute of the hearing, he called a recess and pulled the plug.

It was spectacular.

you know, as I think about it, we should have run that son ofa bitch out of town on a rail within 6 months of his taking office. Certainly not longer than a year. Because any other country faced with what we know now, and faced with what the Department of Justice, the CIA the FBI, etc. knew, would have never allowed Trump to remain as President.

Never allowed him to have access to top secret information, security briefings, or anything else involving the safety and security of our country,...including anything impacting treaties or agreements or even economic policy, tariffs, trade, etc. He'd be gone. I honestly do not believe any other democracy, including Germany, France, the UK, or Canada or Australia, or Japan,or WTFever, none of them would have stood for this shit. Justice would have been swift.

IMO, We need a law that demands a POTUS step aside even temporarily, if he is under investigation. Once he is cleared he can resume his office. But to have him sitting there appointing judges, making decisions that benefit an adversary while he is under suspicion of conspiring with them. Because that is a pile of shit. We need to change that.

All the stories about the Mueller report say that the DOJ is preparing for Mueller's report as early as next week. That's kind of weasel speak because they can be preparing all they want - independently if Mueller. It may not have any basis on whether Mueller is in fact ready to finish. It seems to me that perhaps Barr was pressured by Trump and the DOJ leaked that they were preparing for the release. No where does it say that Mueller has indicated to the DOJ that he is readying his report. With the DOJ leaks you have to be careful as to what they are saying or more importantly not saying because they're all highly trained lawyers who choose each word specifically.

by Anonymousreply 432February 22, 2019 5:50 AM

When they are investigating whether or not our president conspired with a foreign adversary, to interfere with our elections and defraud the American people, then he should step aside. As far as I know, no other PResident was ever under investigation by a Special Prosecutor for that reason. I am not saying they weren't investigated, or that they were not corrupt, but none of them conspired to defraud the American people by cooperating with a foreign adversary to interfere in our election. That is the one thing that justifies them stepping aside. What ever laws we have now need to be tightened up, and fixed.

Per CNN:

Friday may be the day that special counsel Robert Mueller tells all in the long-running court saga of Paul Manafort's prosecution.

Mueller's sentencing memorandum is due to a federal judge in DC District Court before midnight Friday. It is the last major requisite court filing in Mueller's longest running case, a sprawling prosecution of the former Trump campaign manager that led investigators to gather exhaustive information about his hidden Cypriot bank accounts, Ukrainian political efforts in Europe and the US and into Manafort's time on the 2016 presidential campaign. Prosecutors are set to outline all facts they believe the judge should consider at his sentencing, now set for March 13. That will likely include Manafort's criminal business schemes, his attempt to reach out to key contacts after his arrest and the lies he told to prosecutors and a grand jury after he agreed to cooperate with the Mueller investigation. Often, in filings like these, prosecutors will pull together a complete retelling of the defendant's crimes, convictions and cooperation. Details about Manafort's cooperation have been especially guarded by prosecutors, since his interviews are a significant part of Mueller's investigation into Russian influence in the 2016 presidential election. Prosecutors will also likely suggest a range the judge could give him in prison time. The memo Friday will cover the two charges Manafort pleaded guilty to in September, conspiracy against the US and conspiracy witness tampering, which he committed after he was arrested by trying to reach out to former colleagues. At the time of his plea, he also admitted to a litany of money laundering and foreign lobbying crimes that encompassed his work for Ukrainian politicians and other clients over several years. Co-conspirators, Manafort said, were his long-time colleagues Rick Gates, who is still cooperating with Mueller, and Konstantin Kilimnik, whom prosecutors say is connected to Russian intelligence and who is at the heart of their inquiry. The memo will also likely cover his and Kilimnik's alleged contact with potential witnesses in his case after Manafort's October 2017 arrest, and his lies about his interactions with Kilimnik in 2016 and other topics. Previously, prosecutors said Manafort should face up to 25 years in prison and pay tens of millions of dollars for tax and bank fraud. Friday's sentencing memo will speak to consequences that could pile on top of the those. Manafort's defense team has until Monday to file their own request for his sentence. He will be sentenced by federal Judge Amy Berman Jackson on March 13 in his DC case. Five days earlier, he'll learn his sentence for the eight financial fraud convictions in the separate case in Virginia. Manafort, who turns 70 in a month, has been jailed since June for the witness tampering.

New York Has Prepared Paul Manafort Charges If Trump Pardons Him, per Bloomberg.

"New York state prosecutors have put together a criminal case against Paul Manafort that they could file quickly if the former chairman of Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign receives a presidential pardon."

"New York County District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. is ready to file an array of tax and other charges against Manafort, according to two people familiar with the matter, something seen as an insurance policy should the president exercise his power to free the former aide. Skirting laws that protect defendants from being charged twice for the same offense has been one of Vance’s challenges. ... Nevertheless, Vance’s office has identified several areas where it believes Manafort can be charged with state offenses without triggering double jeopardy protections."

So Acosta will eventually be forced out. That leaving Acting Secretary of Defense, Acting Labor Secretary, Acting Chief of Staff. Any other actings that Trump doesn't want to get run through the confirmation process? I totally expect DNI Dan Coats to be fired. Probably next week while Trump is away. That would be acting DNI chief.

The ruse to distract from the Whittaker revelations was successful.

If he indeed lied to congress, then won’t he get the same fate as the others who did the same?

Furthermore, I believe these reports of the investigation coming to a close are not meant as just a distracting, but to add to the emotional exhaustion of a public that is waiting for justice.

by Anonymousreply 479February 22, 2019 7:35 PM

How was this not obvious? Trump's idiot squad has announced/leaked the end of the Mueller investigation about 5000 times so far. That's what happened here, too. I'm just surprised at how much the media at it up.

The American people are owed a full explanation at the end of this. No way does one person get to decide what the public sees in this report.

There is absolutely zero reason to make a report of a report. The public needs to see the report for what it is.

Ok, I heard that the report would not be out next week...now I heard it would be out by tonight! What the fuck is the story? Seems to me the media is in turmoil...why am I so confused?

by Anonymousreply 491February 22, 2019 8:11 PM

R491, the final filings in the Manafort case are due tonight by midnight. The Mueller investigation is not even close to over.

by Anonymousreply 492February 22, 2019 8:12 PM

This is going somewhere so stick with me (my weak Rachel impression):

In South Korea in the fall and winter of 2016 through 2017, literally millions of people protested in the cold in Seoul to remove the president. Every Saturday evening for three months. Literally millions.

I believe the protests started in large part because of reports of corruption, but also because of oppressive conservative policies, some borderline fascist (e.g., something to do with monitoring and prosecuting artists, I think). Families, students, civil society groups, etc. protested — ordinary people, not primarily activists or anything like that. Middle class people were sick of the bullshit. Her hardcore supporters were mostly very old people but also nationalist thugs (sounds familiar). There were counterprotests.

Media investigations of corruption and nonstop updates caused citizens to get out and protest. The protests spurred on the impeachment of the president in Korean parliament, and then her removal by the supreme court. Then she was prosecuted for corruption. She went to prison. 32-year sentence. She's in prison now.

If the Mueller report is so damning that all that's holding back Trump's removal is the Senate, maybe millions will be spurred on to come to DC and protest, with thousands also protesting in the hometowns and/or state capitals of the senators holding back conviction (after the House impeaches). I wouldn't be surprised if there's some spontaneous organizing on social media that makes it happen — when the report comes out, depending on what it says. Perhaps even if the summary the public is allowed to see is so meager that it's enraging.

They're playing with fire, the administration. recruiting Barr to keep the truth from us.

by Anonymousreply 496February 22, 2019 8:15 PM

They really confused me today.

Why did Trump and his suckers put out that the Mueller investigation was at the end? Is it because of Barr? Did Barr ask Mueller to shut it down?

by Anonymousreply 497February 22, 2019 8:20 PM

Some people say that some of the people on Mueller's staff have been getting ready to return to their old jobs. They claim that means the investigation is wrapping up. I haven't dug into the details, though.

by Anonymousreply 498February 22, 2019 8:26 PM

R497 That's what Team Trump does. They abuse their positions of power to muddy up the water and gaslight the media/public. They are destroying public trust in the press and the government in order to get their followers to trust only them and their mouthpieces. Barr is proving he is very much Team Trump.

by Anonymousreply 499February 22, 2019 8:29 PM

I thought maybe that Sarah Isgur political operative's first day at CNN coincided with CNN's press release that Mueller was ordered to end his Russia investigation part of his report and present it to Congress. As if it were a giant stunt to show what an attention-getting liar, thus a tremendous asset, CNN acquired.

by Anonymousreply 500February 22, 2019 8:30 PM

RIck Wilson is correct. Every single time, it’s come from WH sources and has been incorrect. This time, I believe it came from the abominable Sarah Isgur Flores.

Enough with the Lindsey Graham posts. He is irrelevant to the Mueller probe. We don’t need on-the-hour updates about his hissyfits. by Anonymousreply 507February 22, 2019 9:00 PM

As the 84 threads attest to, we will never grow tired of Mueller defending our democracy and sending each and every one of these crooks away in handcuffs.

by Anonymousreply 508February 22, 2019 9:04 PM

I think it is possible, even likely, that "the investigation is winding down" stories are put out by Trump's people in order to placate the President.

It is well known that people inside the government go on TV specifically to try to communicate with Trump, who knows no other reality. Everyone talks about "performing for an audience of one" -- Trump. That's all Sarah Sanders is ever doing, that's all Whitaker is doing, etc., etc. Trump's first attorney kept telling Trump the investigation was almost over to stop him from going nuts. That's probably what's happening right now. Trump is insane, and his own people are trying to calm him down by having him hear, on TV, that his troubles are almost over.

by Anonymousreply 509February 22, 2019 9:13 PM

[quote]Some people say that some of the people on Mueller's staff have been getting ready to return to their old jobs. They claim that means the investigation is wrapping up.

I'd wager those are the people specifically working on the Manafort case, which is coming to an end.

BREAKING -- Cohen gave prosecutors new information about irregularities in Trump family business, also a donor to the inaugural committee.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 511February 22, 2019 9:23 PM

[quote]Michael D. Cohen, President Trump’s former lawyer and fixer, met last month with federal prosecutors in Manhattan, offering information about possible irregularities within the president’s family business and about a donor to the inaugural committee, according to people familiar with the matter.

[quote]Mr. Cohen, who worked at the Trump Organization for a decade, spoke with the prosecutors about insurance claims the company had filed over the years, said the people, who did not elaborate on the nature of the possible irregularities.

[quote]While it was not clear whether the prosecutors found Mr. Cohen’s information credible and whether they intended to pursue it, the meeting suggests that they are interested in broader aspects of the Trump Organization, beyond their investigation into the company’s role in the hush money payments made before the 2016 election to women claiming to have had affairs with Mr. Trump. Mr. Cohen pleaded guilty last summer to arranging those payments.

by Anonymousreply 512February 22, 2019 9:24 PM

[quote]The prosecutors also questioned Mr. Cohen about a donor to the president’s inaugural committee, Imaad Zuberi, a California venture capitalist and political fund-raiser, according to the people familiar with the matter, who were not authorized to discuss the confidential meeting. Around the time that Mr. Zuberi contributed $900,000 to the committee, he also tried to hire Mr. Cohen as a consultant and wrote him a substantial check, one of the people said.

[quote]Although Mr. Cohen did not go through with the arrangement, he was building a consulting business at the time with clients who sought to understand and have access to the Trump administration.

[quote]A spokesman for Mr. Zuberi, Steve Rabinowitz, confirmed the check on Friday, saying it was for $100,000 and never cashed. Mr. Zuberi, the only person directly referenced in a recent subpoena the prosecutors sent the inaugural committee, had previously denied having any dealings with Mr. Cohen beyond a few conversations.

R491 try to keep up. There is a sentencing report for Manafort, due tonight. The was also a rumor about the Mueller report being finalized next week, which most of us on DL already knew was fake news, but CNN and others believed. Now the Justice department is telling every one no report next week. Which we already knew because at DL we know things.

Now. As to why this rumor about the Mueller investigation being over happened, let me repeat what I said earlier. I am getting blurry as to time lines. But it went something like this. The New York Times published an explosive piece on the way Trump was constantly interfering with the Mueller investigation, through his stooge, Matt Whitaker. He was also pressuring Whitaker to intervene in the SDNY.

Trump appointed a U.S Attorney over the SDNY who recused himself from overseeing the FBI investigation of Trump's foundation and his family business interests. He asked Whitaker to tell the guy to un recuse himself and get involved in the investigation. Whitaker refused.

Around the same time, for two or three days Andrew McCabe was all over TV talking about Russia, and that Trump might be a Russian asset, and Trump was a threat to National Security. Then, at the sametime, later that day, we learn that Jared and Michael Flynn were attempting to sell nuclear technology to the Saudis, and that it is illegal to do that, and that when they first attempted it they were stopped, but the deal seems to have been brought back to life in recent months.

So Donald Trump needed to change the subject. So a very discreet leak about Mueller probably wrapping up his investigation and coming out with a report within the next week or two did the job. Suddenly everything else was off the front pages and Mueller and his report and the end of the investigation was all over the place.

I think Mueller is winding things up. I think he is probably finalizing his charging documents so he can file indictments against the big enchiladas. That may require another month or two I'm thinking some time in May. The WH is anxious because they are looking at the 2020 election and how this might affect it. But that horse is already out of the barn.

If the report was released tomorrow it would have a negative impact on Trump no matter what it says. I think if Barr fucks with him and tries to stop him, Barr may be in a world of trouble. I believe Barr is more than likely focusing on pardons which is what he did for George H .W. Bush. He has his son -in-law over at the WH in the Special Counsel's office and one of the many tasks of that office is to research and investiv=gate pardons.

The exact reporting never was that Mueller was wrapping up his investigation. The reporting was that the DOJ was preparing to receive the Mueller report which could happen as early as next week. The news media tied these two things together but really only had sources saying the DOJ was preparing. Yes, they would be preparing. They have a new AG. The report can be released at any time. The way Barr is going to handle the report is completely different than how Whitaker or Rosenstein would handle the report. Of course, he was preparing.

by Anonymousreply 550February 23, 2019 3:02 AM

I’m only a little nervous.... I think Manafort and his lawyers are trying to strike a deal. It’s the only thing that makes sense for this to go down to the wire.

by Anonymousreply 551February 23, 2019 3:23 AM

It’s possible that’s what’s going on, R551, but lawyers frequently go up to the last minute with filings.

by Anonymousreply 552February 23, 2019 3:38 AM

Yeah but they’re required by law to file something by midnight tonight. I don’t think it’s a last minute plea deal.

Glenn Kirschner said it might be that the judge is going over redactions carefully since we’ve had some snafus in that regard lately.

But god, the suspense is killing me. MSNBC’s hosts tonight all seem like “jeez, we thought we would spend the hour pouring over this thing” and they’re left to just rehash the same news of the day. Not that there hasn’t been a lot of news, but I think we were all expecting something to end the evening with a bang.

So glad to see I’m not the only one who’s sick to death of the L Graham shit on this thread. No, Miss Linz Troll, we do not all have a vested interest in suppressing posts about the Linzmeister. He is NOT worth obsessing over. Seriously, one post every day or two about him is enough. Start a dedicated Linz thread of your own if you can’t make it through the day without posting about him multiple times. As of now, he has nothing to do with the Mueller probe.

by Anonymousreply 553February 23, 2019 3:39 AM

by Anonymousreply 554February 23, 2019 3:46 AM

Well, the lawyers for both sides were legally required to file today/tonight, and it’s supposed to be posted on the public docket before midnight. I think. Maybe they were just required to file before midnight but the judge isn’t required to post it publicly until it’s been redacted properly. I don’t know.

Lots of redactions mean lots of crimes (and possibly other cases) are mentioned.

by Anonymousreply 557February 23, 2019 4:04 AM

Yes, supposedly lots of redactions means the investigation is not shutting down any time soon, because evidence is still being developed.

by Anonymousreply 558February 23, 2019 4:16 AM

So long as it got filed, that's what counts.

by Anonymousreply 559February 23, 2019 4:44 AM

it was filed and the judge will decide what part of it if any to make public. Mueller has recommended redactions. I am speculating that he has named people who have not yet been served with their indictments yet.

by Anonymousreply 560February 23, 2019 4:48 AM

Well, it has to get posted. It’s highly unlikely the whole thing will be redacted. There is zero chance that no part of it is shared publicly.

Say, if the White House insists that Hillary lost the popular vote the media outlet would just post the actual outcome of the popular vote in the 2016 election as response (without addressing the lie) or a "just a reminder" hashtag or something.

Cyrus Fucking Vance Jr? Along with the Florida Attorney General, Vance Jr is one of the people known to have given favorable treatment following donations from Trump.

The source of the information is so incredibly murky--"according to people familiar with the matter." That could just as easily by Guiliana as someone working in the New York County District Attorney's office. It could be Lewandowski, who seems to be on a media tour now with appearances on both Ari Melber and Anderson Cooper Friday.

"Skirting laws that protect defendants from being charged twice for the same offense has been one of Vance’s challenges." Skirting laws doesn't sound like something career staff at a DAs office would be OK with.

If you have a case that someone has broken the law, why would you not go ahead and pursue it? Don't say "because it's too expensive." You just said you devoted resources to developing a case against Manafort, and it took an unusual amount of effort to get around NYS's double-jeopardy law.

The actual Attorney General of New York State seems more logical to be leading in this area. When there's reporting on this from Tish James's office, it will be more credible.

All of this sounds like an effort to, in advance, derail/discount non-federal charges that are in the works for the merry band of Russia lovers.

R532 I have the same reaction to people who complain about how negative the media is toward Trump. I not so calmly tell them we have never had such a venal, craven, amoral asshole leading our country! It his own damn fault he gets bad press!

by Anonymousreply 568February 23, 2019 12:56 PM

Anyone that believes Dotard gets "negative" media attention is mentally ill.

Apparently Manafort has started showing up to court using a cane. It doesn't really mean anything, except maybe a sympathy ploy, but I know DL has this thing about canes.

DJT has a whole network devoted to promoting him while bashing Democrats. It is Murdoch's Fox News. And right-wing radio is raging more than ever. While DJT bashes CNN, the network has plenty of hired commentators that advocate for, and spin in behalf of, DJT's interests. -----------

This flurry of scolding and controlling messaging of 'don't post anything negative about Lindsay Graham" is quite odd and suspicious.

R567 I can well believe Dump make a nice contribution to Vance, but the fun thing is, he really is under no obligation to be nice now.

The stunning amount of criminal wrong-doing, especially with regard to Trump's businesses and his Russian interests points to what amounts to criminal negligence on the part of the FBI-SDNY. I see Rudy Giuliani's hands all over this going back years and years. I hope he is one of the people who gets indicted at some point.

by Anonymousreply 577February 23, 2019 3:14 PM

r572....what the hell does that even mean....he wasnt obligated before...and he sure wasnt obligated to take a "donation".....that in itself is illegal (bribe). Has nobody learned from this Trump saga that it is his m.o. to pay people off and to hide those payments through straw companies, donations, etc....

by Anonymousreply 578February 23, 2019 3:20 PM

The GOP nominated and elected a criminal. And they fucking KNEW he was a criminal. Now they either have to protect him or watch their party be destroyed.

Anyone defending Trump is guilty of obstruction of justice, plain and simple. McConnell, in particular, deserves a stretch in jail before he claims his special place in Hell.

by Anonymousreply 579February 23, 2019 3:20 PM

^^^instead of taking a "bribe". he should have added additional charges to those corrupt fuckers....instead, he exposed himself as being for sale, therefore, he CANT BE TRUSTED.

McConnell and Ryan need to be brought to justice.

I can easily see McTurtle being walked away in cuffs and crying like a baby.

In an interview with Axios, a former DOJ official claims it will be difficult for the Justice Department to deny members of Congress all of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigatory files on Donald Trump after he submits his final report.

Speaking with Mike Allen, Matt Miller, a former Justice Department official under Obama who now works as a legal analyst for MSNBC, said that Mueller’s files will contain a treasure trove of information.

“[It’s] not just the Mueller report, whatever that is, that’s relevant. It’s also all the underlying evidence he collected,” Miller explained.

Referring to an FBI investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that turned up no criminality, Miller stated, “[The] FBI set a precedent in the Clinton case by turning over nearly the entire case file to Congress within three months of the investigation closing.”

“Now that that precedent has been set, [there’s] no good argument for not doing so here,” he added.

Miller also claimed there will be plenty to pore over, citing a massive number of FBI interviews conducted with associates of Donald Trump.

The DOJ is going after Zinke AFTER he left the Trump Cabinet.

There will be prosecutions for YEARS.

by Anonymousreply 587February 23, 2019 3:47 PM

They need to go after all of them. Gone from the Administration or not.
