R26 Of course some of the Kennedy’s are gay, just closeted. There are too many of them not for some to be gay. Joe Jr, the one who’s plain went down in WWII was gay, I’m certain of it.

Anthony Radziwill and I both attended and graduated from Boston University's College of Communications. We graduated in in May 1982. BU had a main graduation for the entire school; however, each college within the university had its own separate, smaller graduation--and that's the one that Anthony and I attended. He was an undergrad, and I was a graduate student, but both groups of students graduated together at the smaller, college graduations. Lee, Jackie, Tina, Caroline and John-John sat right in the front row just a few feet away from the graduating students waiting in line before going on stage. There was no security surrounding them. I couldn't take my eyes off the whole family of course focusing on Jackie. They were just like a normal family cheering on Anthony when his name was called. The Radziwill and Kennedy clan had an extraordinary way of just focusing on each other and tuning out everyone surrounding them who were obviously staring at all of them. Anyway, it was all very exciting and added a nice touch of celebrity to my graduation. I am also from Boston, and at the time, Joe Kennedy III and his wife and kids also lived up the street from me. Yes, there were Kennedys all over Boston at the time.

R44: Yes, Princess Anna Christina (Tina) Radziwill is Lee's daughter and Anthony's sister (and Caroline and John's cousin.) Carole Ann Radziwill was Anthony's wife and currently is on the piece of shit Real Housewives show. (Prince) Anthony died of cancer in 1999 at 40, less than a month after JFK Jr died.
Anna Christina, like her mother, Lee, is also royal: Princess Anna Christina "Tina" Radziwill(18 August 1960) she married Octavio Arancio in September 1999 and they were divorced in 2005.

Lee wasn't married to Michael Canfield for but a few years, but in those days, women had babies right away. I'm surprised Lee didn't try to get knocked up so she'd have a kid or two with British royal blood. And Canfield died in 1969 at 43 but it seems kept a pretty low profile. The whole thing seems somewhat mysterious.

Born in 1980, I randomly became obsessed with the Donghia furniture company 15 years ago or so - around the time that I bought my second home and actually had the money to furnish it with some decent pieces. Granted, I can only afford "sample sale" prices on these relatively pricey casement pieces, chairs, sofas, Murano lamps, etc. Researching the famous designer who started his namesake company (and sadly passed due to AIDS-related illness) led me to Lee many times. She was actually considered one of the top tier decorators during the late 1970's and early 1980's. Her work wasn't half bad; she was certainly no Angelo Donghia or Michael Taylor - but she had a contemporary look for the time (and one that still holds up today). I honestly didn't know much else about her. I am sure that her publicity (being published in AD and other industry magazines) was partially due to her fame as a socialite, but she deserved recognition nonetheless.

by Anonymous | reply 67 | February 16, 2019 11:33 PM |
Lee was never considered a top tier decorator. She was hired because she was Jackie's sister. Lee could never be involved in all the tiny details and got bored. Just like her failed acting career, decorating career and whatever else she tried. She was barely adequate at her Armani job, which was basically wearing clothes. Plus she was a cunt. Good riddance Princess.

R69, I bought my "second home" after selling my first one you idiot; I did not own two homes. Pretty standard fare for many. Not to mention that my younger sister's friends were buying multiple homes back in the "declared income" era of the early 2000's and they made less than half what I did. It was not hard to do....not at all.

[quote]In a brief telephone interview for this obituary, Mrs. Radziwill scoffed at the notion that she had had an affair with Mr. Onassis, and insisted that she had “no regrets, none at all,” about her relationship with her sister, which was widely reported to have been strained after Mrs. Kennedy married Mr. Onassis.
Wait, what? I didn't realize that the New York Times has a habit of calling people to interview them for their obituaries.

We never hear about Lee's daughter, (Princess) Anna Christina, "Tina" the way we occasionally heard about her brother (Prince) Anthony. We only hear about Lee's daughter-in-law, fame whore Real Housewife, Carole. Wikipedia has an Anthony Radziwill page but not a Tina page.
The cousins grew up together, Tina, Anthony, Caroline and John Kennedy. Anthony and John were best friends, and Anthony was John's best man at this wedding. I wonder if Tina and Caroline remained close as well especially now that they are the only two left?

The disinheritance of Mrs. Radziwill was widely interpreted as another sign of strain between the sisters, whose relationship had captivated the press and public throughout their lives.
That's from the NYT obit.

I’m 90% sure that’s not actually her dining room R158. I agree that it’s tacky and doesn’t hold up well. I saw that caption in the NYT and I think they got it wrong. I think that is one of the rooms she decorated for that chain of hotels she designed for.
I’ve shared the link earlier, but here’s a really good blog post that shows the interiors of some of her different homes.

That hotel chain must have been one of her few decorating clients. Even when Architectural Digest listed her as one of their top 20 decorators ("Decorating for Celebrities", 1980), half of the pics were of her hotel rooms. She was part of an elite group which included Micheal Taylor, Angelo Donghia, Sister Parish, Sally Sirkin Lewis and Mario Buatta. I am not sure that I agree, but many of her rooms were just fine in my book; I have seen far worse. The dining room that R158 shared is particularly bad, but not really indicative of her usual "style". She seemed to prefer simple rugs, parson-style furniture and large, graphic art (a few of these things were somewhat contemporary for the day I think). As for her own homes, that same set of botanical prints seemed to follow her everywhere!

I like those society dames. Lee Radziwill had a good life, but also some tragedy such as the untimely young death of her son. She called JFK "Jack." They were close. She had a fine relationship with her sister even if there were some challenges along the way as there are with most sisters. They vacationed together with their kids in the 70s. Lee married Polish nobility. While the title may not have meant much, her husband was not going to give up his title because in his European circles, those titles mean something. So by default, Lee became a princess. We can put it down, but if her husband has a title, she gets one too through marriage. She went back to using the name Radziwill, but not her title, because that was kids last name. Many women keep the name that their children have. Lee Radziwill be was elegant, classy and chic. She was also surprisingly down to earth. They don't make them her anymore. Now we have no-name celebrities and useless reality television personalities. I happen to like people like Lee Radziwill, Babe Paley, CZ Guest, etc. They add a bit of glamour, class and pizzazz that is missing nowadays. They're interesting and led interesting and fascinating lives.

r217 shows JK in the suit she was later wearing when the assassination happened.
It's often credited as Chanel, but it was technically by a company that was licensed to reproduce Chanel garments in the U.S.
[quote]According to Justine Picardie's authorized biography of Coco Chanel, Chanel, Her Life, Jackie Kennedy was a Chanel client starting in the 1950s. But after she was slammed in the press for a reported $30,000 Paris spending spree during her husband's Presidential campaign, Mrs. Kennedy couldn't afford to buy Chanel from Chanel and risk more bad press, especially not as First Lady. Too foreign, too spendy. (After the story broke, first in WWD and then picked up by the AP, that the future first lady went on a wild spending spree, Pat Nixon told the Times, "I buy my clothes off the rack and I look for bargains like all other American women.") So, to avoid another gaffe, Picardie says that Mrs. Kennedy "was able to acquire Chanel outfits sewn for her in New York by a dressmaking establishment called Chez Ninon. The garments were not fake or pirated, but made to order using materials supplied by Chanel in Paris."
[quote]"Thus it was," Picardie concludes, "that she came to be wearing a vivid pink Chanel suit (complete with fabric, trim and buttons from 31 Rue Cambon, but fitted at Chez Ninon) on 22nd November 1963, accompanying her husband to Dallas."

I met her a few times- and I got to know Mrs O a bit. My Mom knew Mrs O and liked her a lot. My impression of Lee was that she was not as bright as Mrs O (who was smart and very very nice- funny actually.) I think Lee had some prescription drug problems at different times in her life and she was most definitely not a pal of the Nan/Pat/Annette crowd in NYC high profile socialite world. I really got the impression they did not like her- She was not very nice. She was one of the few "famous" types absolutely forbidden by staff at Andre Oliver (who did tell me Lee had some substance abuse issues) to open a house account. Mrs O had one- paid on time every month. Lee was like the Kennedy sisters- kind of entitled and never paid a bill. I also have never forgotten her "just a couple of fags" comment about Capote and Vidal. Very very few women of her background would ever say anything like that.

I’m assuming there will be no official cause of death, which strongly causes me to believe she died in an “unsavory” manner, I.e. falling off a toilet and striking her head, as someone upthread or in the other thread theorized.
This also explains why there wasn’t any official news about her death until the next day. They probably had to come up with a game plan, get the body presentable, and clean up any mess caused by the accident.

Tina? When did I do tina?
by Anonymous | reply 273 | February 18, 2019 10:13 PM |
R271, Here she is attending JFK, Jr.'s memorial service, just weeks prior to her son's funeral.
by Anonymous | reply 275 | February 18, 2019 10:23 PM |
R265, Here's the dress from a different angle. It was probably sweltering that day. I think she looks fine.
by Anonymous | reply 276 | February 18, 2019 10:29 PM |
That outfit looks like Armani. The first one was her maid's housecoat.
by Anonymous | reply 277 | February 18, 2019 10:29 PM |
Has anyone mentioned that dishy Peter Beard dicked her?
by Anonymous | reply 278 | February 18, 2019 10:31 PM |
Yes, multiple times.
by Anonymous | reply 279 | February 18, 2019 10:32 PM |
Because apparently it needs to be said.
Also Nureyev had AIDS. Make sure we mention that several times.
Drop in a mention that Jackie O was rumored to have AIDS.
And don't forget, Janet was C.U.N.T. Jackie managed not to be a cunty woman. Lee, sorry, was a pretentious cunt.

I'll be there in a dowdy black housedress, condescending towards Carole Radziwill and making fat jokes about Tina.

Is this supposed to be funny? Can someone explain? I mean, who spends hours contributing to a thread and comes up with this? An eight year old, perhaps.

R285, it takes less time to make quick posts (hardly hours, barely minutes) than searching and compiling a list. You gave way too much time on your hands, hunty. And Lee is still dead.
by Anonymous | reply 291 | February 19, 2019 4:21 AM |
R291, what is the idea behind posting comments that debase the conversation? It's not like everything you posted here is gross, most of your comments are, you know, normal.

Carole Radziwill's article is dull and inelegant.
By the way Lee was never a princess because Radziwill was not a prince when they married. I always considered her pretense to essentially define her.
by Anonymous | reply 300 | February 19, 2019 7:35 PM |
Carole has a vintage sofa in her apartment that once belonged to Lee.
by Anonymous | reply 301 | February 19, 2019 7:50 PM |
I don't understand why Jackie was supposed to leave Lee money.
Their mother who was the widow of a Standard Oil heir died only a few years before Jackie.
At that point Jackie and Lee should have inherited a sizable amount of money.
by Anonymous | reply 302 | February 19, 2019 8:14 PM |
Wasn't the Prince rumored to like the dick?
by Anonymous | reply 303 | February 19, 2019 8:27 PM |
R302, Lee always lived beyond her means. She would sell paintings, furniture and even clothing when she was in financial need. The prince died in serious debt, leaving nothing behind for his two children with Lee.
by Anonymous | reply 304 | February 19, 2019 8:44 PM |
He was a commoner, former prince. He didn't even style himself a prince. She re-branded him with a title he gave up. Technicality but not an unimportant one.
by Anonymous | reply 305 | February 19, 2019 11:46 PM |
But it was an impressive title. Among the gotha. Major history and MAJOR digs across Central Europe. The fact this guy died without money and apparently had comparably little wealth and valuable possessions when he was young and they married, is sad story.
by Anonymous | reply 306 | February 19, 2019 11:51 PM |
What a fascinating life Lee lived. Jackie too. And their mother Janet as well.
I'd love to see a really well done documentary on the three women. Kinda like what CNN did with the Kennedy's.
by Anonymous | reply 307 | February 20, 2019 12:35 AM |
I think only the over 50 or over 60 crowd has any reference at all to be fascinated by Early to Mid-Century American social climbing. Jackie Bouvier was born in 1929.

1929 also produced Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Barbara Walters and Anne Frank.

There is a good documentary on Netflix.
We can thank Lee for one thing, the Beales. She flaked out as usual, but thankfully the film makers continued with the project.

She went back to using Radziwill as her last name, the same last name as her children. She also couldn't stand being married to Herbert Ross.

Astonished to see some of the items on Poshmark, sold, that I had flipped in a bundle last Spring. The DL just brings it! I clean up and add to these finds. Repair a beaded bag making it better. Add fur trim to cuffs, boots & shoes. Have my own lines as well.
Sitting here procrastinating. Filling orders to be shipped in about 6 hours. Seeing my work hasn't motivated me. Damp. Cold. Alone. Ugh.

Carolines family is famous and iconic. Of course she's sticking with "Kennedy."
It's just like the "Kardashians" they've turned it into a bankable celebrity brand name in pop culture.
You always stick with the $$$ if you have any scence.
by Anonymous | reply 337 | February 21, 2019 12:55 PM |
R328, she liked Herb Ross enough to marry him. Once she had sold everything he had and milked him for every cent, it was time for her to move on.
by Anonymous | reply 338 | February 21, 2019 1:04 PM |
R334, Bullshit. She used Schlossberg for years, even on her personal stationery. She only stopped using it fairly recently.
by Anonymous | reply 339 | February 21, 2019 1:06 PM |
Well since Caroline Kennedy was brought up......Her brief sort of campaign for senate was hysterical. She went on a listening tour upstate. There was footage of her actually running away from people because she was so nervous. She was wearing one of the frau bed quilt coats as it was the middle of winter. It wasn't long after that "listening" tour that she withdrew. It was too bad in the long run. She would have been better than the shrew who got the job.
by Anonymous | reply 340 | February 21, 2019 1:15 PM |
R339, bull crap, she may have used it personally but she’s been Caroline Kennedy publicly. And what does that button prove btw? It’s not an official button, just something someone made that they though would make a buck. If you go to the site, you’ll see a “Caroline Kennedy for Senate” t-shirt for sale (no Schlossberg).

Never on here R333! You've gotta be aware of our obsessive systemic trolls who stalk posters here who intimidate and anger them. R360 agree. She brings attention to her lack of assets. Donning such a frock is entering into a competition with said garment. Dress wins here.

1) Capote was right when he said Jackie and Lee were modern day geishas.
2) Many rich/famous women sell their old clothes. Or, "consign" to use a prettier word.
3) Lee was a Grade A cunt but I'm giving her complete slack for what she wore to her son's funeral...it was August and she was coping with the loss of her son (who had been dying for quite some time) as well as the sudden tragic death of her nephew a few weeks earlier. If you're grieving who gives a fuck what other people think about what you're wearing. Also, that "black housecoat" probably was a $2k black housecoat.

If you met LR and JO (pun intended) you would right away see the difference. One practically glowed with charm and kindness, the other very much the opposite although I suppose she could turn it on if she wanted to. One was kiss up, kick down, the other treated everyone well and looked them right in the eye when she spoke to them. I leave it to you to decide which was which. Mrs O was a lovely woman, funny, smart, witty, kind, and without pretense if you can believe it. Her sister had none of this on a casual meeting- perhaps as I said, she could 'bring it" when necessary (kiss up). I think the apt comparison is Queen E and her sister Margaret. One had life thrust on her and accepted it with grace (and was no dummy) and the other used the associated fame somewhat selfishly, often complaining and taking advantage of the fame and position.

Lee had no where near $50,000,000. The trust set up by her Mother was originally to benefit both of her daughters and Jackie signed over her share to Lee. The Paris apartment was leased and put up for sale by the owner. Her apartment at 160 East 72nd St was originally the ground floor of a triplex which was recently sold and most likely will be bought by the upstairs neighbor and rejoined.

Jackie was the only one with money.

I find it humorous that The Daily Mail and the queens of Data Lounge think they know what Lee Radziwill was or wasn't worth! You've no way of knowing what an individual is worth no matter how famous they are or how many books you've read about them. If you remember correctly, Jackie's true worth was a lot less than her assumed worth, and on the other hand, I was surprised to learn how much Joan Rivers was actually worth. Why should Lee leave money to Carole or Caroline Kennedy? Kennedy hardly needs more money and Carole divulges family secrets to all and sundry on cheap television. Poor Tina, the ugly daughter of a celebrated beauty. Ugly girls of beautiful mothers suffer a lot, but she could have at least had her roots done for the funeral. I imagine mother and daughters' relationship was strained. I can see Lee picking at Tina for being overweight and frumpy. Does anyone else find the law regarding making wills public a gross intrusion of privacy? So Jackie signed her part of their mothers trust over to Lee, now we know what Jackie meant in her own will when she said she had already helped Lee. Why all the pallbearers? A wicket casket with Lee Radziwill in it would have weighed nothing.

What is the New York estate tax rate?
The top New York estate tax rate is16%. The top rate only applies when the New York taxable estate is over $10,100,000 million. Dollars below that amount are subject to tax at graduated rates, starting at 3.06% for the first $500,000.

by Anonymous | reply 429 | March 29, 2019 7:44 AM |
Well, this gives the lie to Carole Radziwill's stories of Lee's devotion to her. I'm sure Carole had expectations. And I'm sure Caroline didn't; she has plenty.
I'm sure Janet's trust wasn't remotely enough for Lee to live on--no amount would have been--and that's why she kept selling off possessions. The corpus of the trust is no doubt added to Lee's other realized assets and accounts for the $50 million figure.
by Anonymous | reply 431 | March 29, 2019 12:26 PM |

If Lee had been careful, she would have ended up rich. She sold a Francis Bacon for like $200,000 just before it's value soared into the millions. She also sold her duplex at 969 Fifth Ave for a few hundred thousand which is now worth at least $20,000,000 and she sold an ocean front house in Southampton to Norman Lear's ex wife Francis for under a million which is now worth at least $30,000,000. But she needed the money to piss away on her lifestyle.

You never know what someone’s net worth is. I bet Lee didn’t have a pot to piss in.
When my MIL died suddenly, she was in heavy debt. She lived quite lavishly and everyone assumed she was a very wealthy woman - including her own children. The only thing she had was a double-mortgaged property which will only ever increase in value, so we are bailing it out and keeping it.
When my “poor” mother died, she left a paid-off house, car and a few bank accounts full of cash. Not to mention the enormous stash of cash stashed around the house. She lived extremely frugally and we inherited her considerable legacy.
You never know.

Jackie was jowly late 1970's early 1980's. Apparently she had two facelifts, the latter around her 60th birthday and you can clearly see her top eyelids had been done. Lee obviously had her face lifted and eyes done too, at least. I'm sure Jackie would have dabbled in a bit of filler and botox, had she lived, but not to the extreme. I don't think Jackie was adverse to people seeing her with wrinkles, but she would still probably want to look good, unlike Caroline who doesn't care because she;s too academic to care of such fickle things.

[quote]r544 No important furniture or artwork here. But there is a mirror so she could look at herself from her bed.

Is that building considered "fashionable"?

I wish there were more photos of the apartment. Giving us only two is such a tease!

i wonder where she died? What happened? I wonder if it smells like cigarettes and old lady perfume? Chanel No. 5? Antiseptic? Deep heat and mothballs? Benign decay? What couturier was she buried in?

I guess there wont be an auction like Jackie's

I don't know but Lee is thinner than ever!
She is so chic - all the anorexic NY Society women are simply green with envy

what in the world is wrong with you, r550?

r552 Lee's not thin now, she's dust, she was cremated.

OMG, she's dust!
I don't know how I'll ever compete with her now - Lee was always so fashion forward!

I’m just getting around to reading the March 2019 version of Harper’s Bazaar and there is an article in it titled “16 Odd Questions for Lee Radziwill.” No mention of her death or anything. Must have been to the printer before they could change it.
The description of the article reads, “This month, the legendary style icon, Capote swan, sister of Jackie, and one of the most alluring women ever turns 86. Here, Radziwill— still elegant with exacting taste and a sardonic wit— tells us a thing or two.”
The article:
Who was the person who had a big influence on you?
The great Renaissance art historian Bernard Berenson, whom I met when I was 18. He created the terms “life-enhancing” and “life-diminishing” to describe people. It’s so true— people are either one or the other.
What person alive today do you most admire?
Myself.
Why?
I think I’ve gotten through an awful lot completely alone.
Which photograph best captures who you are?
The pictures Bert Stern took of me are sensational— he was the best for me, and for Marilyn Monroe.
Who is the sexiest man you’ve ever known?
David Somerset, the late duke of Beaufort. The sexiest and the most elegant.
Did you have an affair with him?
None of your business. Let’s say it was a flirtation.
Which of your homes was your favorite?
I loved each of them while I was there.

Article (con’t.)
What is your favorite spot in your home now?
My bed.
Why?
I designed it, and it’s the perfect length and width. The whole room, including the bed, is fuchsia, my favorite color; and there’s a great picture of me with Andy Warhol over the desk.
What is your favorite place in the world?
The Amalfi Coast.
What is the best trip you ever made?
My first trip to Europe. I went with my sister when I was 18 and she was 22. When we got back we wrote and illustrated a book about it called “One Special Summer.”
What is your favorite book?
WIDE SARGASSO SEA, by Jean Rhys.
What’s your favorite building?
The cathedral in Mantua, Italy. The painting in the dome is breathtaking.
Do you have a secret passion or talent?
Many.
Tell us one.
Painting watercolors.

How much are the uneaten frozen dinners from 1973 worth?

I'm very surprised she didn’t say Peter Beard.

This was the pic of the duke included with the article.

The article was written and sent to the printers just before Lee died, ironically she never got to 86. I wonder what she died from if she wasn't expected to die and seemed to have all her marbles is this interview is correct.
by Anonymous | reply 563 | May 1, 2019 12:04 PM |
She was 85. Perhaps it was natural causes.
by Anonymous | reply 564 | May 1, 2019 1:24 PM |
I'd like to think Lee went inelegantly, like straining to push a shit out on the toilet and her heart gave out...oh wait, Lee didn't shit because she didn't eat. Perhaps she starved to death? Drunk herself to death?

did anyone not tell Marc Jacobs or Andre Leon Talley (aka the obese king of an African micro nation draped in leopard print) what The Princess Radziwill thought of the gays? ie. Truman Capote and Gore Vidal 'just a couple of fags'
by Anonymous | reply 566 | May 1, 2019 11:01 PM |
Yeah, R565
After living such a restrained life,
I think Lee decided to go Elvis-style
Sitting on the throne, eating a NuttyBuddy,
Straining far too much, because she over-indulged in her pain pills
Just one more mess for her poor Dominican maid to have to clean
by Anonymous | reply 567 | May 1, 2019 11:07 PM |
The rumor (hah I think I read it here) was that she fell and bled out before anyone found her.
by Anonymous | reply 568 | May 1, 2019 11:14 PM |
R568, Seriously doubtful.

I like to thing she was getting some BBC up the ass. It was so big it hit her liver or some other internal and killed her. Right when he was pumping his load into her.
by Anonymous | reply 570 | May 2, 2019 12:07 AM |
She was getting fisted and had had some crack shoved up her ass when she started showing signs of distress and barfing into her designer leather mask. Her friend, who was known to the police, stayed to administer CPR, but to no avail.
This happens so often, there's really no stigma attached anymore.

Lee's apartment is on the market for $5.7 million dollars. I think tina is trying to sell it fast with it listed at that price.
by Anonymous | reply 572 | May 2, 2019 4:02 PM |
^^^death taxes and she probably wants to erase all memory of Lee from her life.
by Anonymous | reply 573 | May 3, 2019 1:16 AM |
R572, The price was dropped a few days ago to $4.9 million.
