The Buzzfeed story is so interesting. Buzzfeed says it stands by it but the Mueller team in a RARE statement says it isn’t true.

by Anonymousreply 4January 19, 2019 7:40 PM

Thank you for the new thread!

by Anonymousreply 5January 19, 2019 7:41 PM

Nope, R4. Mueller's people do NOT say it's not true. They say that details of the reporting are inaccurate.

NBC is saying it could mean that President Shithole didn't explicitly tell Cohen to lie to Congress, i.e. they might have had an unspoken "understanding" that Cohen would do so.

by Anonymousreply 6January 19, 2019 7:43 PM

I've used "inaccurate" to mean incomplete.

by Anonymousreply 7January 19, 2019 7:55 PM

Nineteen days (give or take) until Feb. 7.

by Anonymousreply 8January 19, 2019 9:03 PM

Can we keep discussing the poor Belarusian gal?

One of the last posts in the last thread mentioned her lawyer fell out of a window?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 9January 19, 2019 9:03 PM

R9, that’s horrible. I don’t understand wtf is wrong with Thailand - they also just turned over a young Muslim woman (and legal adult) to her family for an honor killing.

by Anonymousreply 10January 19, 2019 9:11 PM

Sorry my bad, R9 - it was a reporter investigating her case, and he was murdered in April.

Still, a staggering number of people falling out of windows over there.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 11January 19, 2019 9:17 PM

Thanks for clarifying, R11. I was hoping you'd show up on this thread and elaborate.

by Anonymousreply 12January 19, 2019 9:23 PM

R11, that wasn’t the really popular Russian newscaster who did the feature on the oligarchs, was it? The one who regularly speaks out against Putin?

by Anonymousreply 13January 19, 2019 9:27 PM

So - this whole thing about the Cheeto’s whore just blithely flying off to Florida for a break while all this is happening -

I guess there’s just too much else going on for this to get much traction - but it is extraordinary!

Can you imagine ANY other First Lady leaving the Whitehouse to go on a government funded joyride somewhere warm and sunny while the government is shutdown and the admin is in siege/crisis mode? I mean - the optics are terrible! And can you imagine how the rethugs would have been baying for blood if Michelle had done this?

But this is the woman who wore the I don’t care coat - and so nothing should surprise us! But still - it’s surreal!

by Anonymousreply 14January 19, 2019 9:39 PM

The video at R9's link is appalling. Russia truly is a shithole country.

by Anonymousreply 15January 19, 2019 9:40 PM

I worry about the people on Mueller's team, I worry about Pelosi and Schiff and Nadler, I even worry about Justice Ginsberg since they started going after her. Can you believe that? They have been attacking her for the past few weeks...

by Anonymousreply 16January 19, 2019 9:50 PM

R15 - it sure is! But what does it say that this shithole country owns the current administration? They’re getting everything they want - sanctions being lifted - NATO under threat - and thanks to the utter chaos - they’re getting their collective feet in the door in the Middle East and various European counties again...

They’re a shithole - but looks like they’re calling the shots now. And so what are we gonna do about it?

by Anonymousreply 17January 19, 2019 9:51 PM

At this point we are turning into the same shithole country as Russia is. Putin has us all by the balls...thanks to the hateful foolish Deplorables.

by Anonymousreply 18January 19, 2019 9:59 PM

R14, I tell ya, that whore is going to make Eva Peron look like Pippi Longstocking when all is said and done.

by Anonymousreply 19January 19, 2019 10:03 PM

R17 they have been in the Middle East. Since at least the Mid 70's. They have never got over Jimmy Carter running them out of Afghanistan. They have been allied with Iran and Syria for years. Go back and study the Cold War. They've been the invisible hand behind most of the unrest in the Middle East for decades.:80's, 90's, 00's, 10's, up to now. Thanks to Trump they have been emboldened. Taking over in Syria, and do you think the boat loads of refugees from the Mediterranean are some accident of nature? The refugees from Africa and the Middle East that have created a crisis and energized the Extreme Right in Europe? Rubber rafts filled with refugees floating up to the shore on the beaches in Greece? Hungary Germany France all of them flooded with refugees? And now we suddenly have caravans? The fusion of the interests of the Extreme Right, Russia and the Evangelicals, etc is just like something out of Tom Clancy.

by Anonymousreply 20January 19, 2019 10:15 PM

You need to also believe the Pee Pee Girls were put in a situation to never be able to talk afterwards, particularly after the Steele Dozier got released. They were young prostitutes looking for a bag of rubbles or some dollars to earn a living. They unwittingly had no idea they would be famously unknown and in great danger.

Too bad Buzzfeed went for the leak and the scoop, instead of letting the Mueller investigation alone.

by Anonymousreply 24January 19, 2019 10:40 PM

R21, they’re probably lying under rubble now. And I’m not referring to the currency.

by Anonymousreply 25January 19, 2019 10:41 PM

r601 from the last thread can just right fuck off. This had been done several dozen times before and it works, so your johnny-come-lately dilettantism is not welcome.

by Anonymousreply 26January 19, 2019 11:06 PM

I am really disappointed that the FBI didn't at least talk to the Belarus girl.

I mean, she asked for asylum and, shit, I would have sponsored her. Poor thing. Does anyone know why we didn't Grant her asylum?

IIRC, she asked during the Obama administration.

by Anonymousreply 27January 19, 2019 11:15 PM

The FBI supposedly tried twice to talk to her, but were unsuccessful.

by Anonymousreply 28January 19, 2019 11:21 PM

Someone should have gotten to her and removed her from where she was and brought her to safety. We could have done it easily through 3rd parties.

by Anonymousreply 29January 19, 2019 11:25 PM

Couldn’t she have gotten a direct flight to Belarus? Why did she try to go through Russia?

by Anonymousreply 30January 19, 2019 11:32 PM

R25 Oops, Ruble. Predictive spelling. Thx.

by Anonymousreply 31January 19, 2019 11:40 PM

It was a plane change in Moscow, iirc, r30.

Just an excuse to get to her.

by Anonymousreply 32January 19, 2019 11:41 PM

She asked for asylum during the Trump administration.

by Anonymousreply 33January 19, 2019 11:43 PM

And then 42 Senate Repblicans plus no-show for voting, Bernie Sanders, voted to lift sanctions on Deriposka and his aluminum company. Poor girl.

by Anonymousreply 34January 19, 2019 11:48 PM

She’s already dead.

by Anonymousreply 35January 19, 2019 11:50 PM

heart breaking. Then our Senate votes to give the Oligarchs money, but withhold paychecks from 800,000 Federal Workers,

by Anonymousreply 36January 19, 2019 11:53 PM

Well, shit, r33.

Poor girl never had a chance.

by Anonymousreply 37January 19, 2019 11:54 PM

psychic says she's dead but was only tortured a little because the oligarch that had her killed loved her. BUT and if this true, it is what is going to start the ball rolling to get rid of Putin

by Anonymousreply 38January 19, 2019 11:54 PM

I'm in agreement with R24. Why give Trump an advance warning? So much for the leak-proof Mueller team.

I hope BuzzFeed wasn't played.

by Anonymousreply 39January 20, 2019 12:02 AM

Obama would have gotten her to the US.

by Anonymousreply 40January 20, 2019 12:16 AM

Bernie wasn't the only one to miss the Russian Giveaway vote.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-Integrity) also couldn't make it.

Rachel pointed out that the Senator was absent because she was announcing her run for the Presidency on Colbert.

by Anonymousreply 41January 20, 2019 12:18 AM

[quote] So much for the leak-proof Mueller team.

Not sure you can blame Mueller for this. Word is that the leak can from NY: either the NYC field office of the FBI or someone on the prosecution team at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York -- where Rudy used to be U.S. Attorney.

by Anonymousreply 42January 20, 2019 12:41 AM

I have to wonder if this was the NY FBI office trying to cover for their traitor. Again.

by Anonymousreply 43January 20, 2019 1:07 AM

"Not accurate" could apply to several different factors. It could range from one minor detail or technicality, to the fundamental premise of the story.

All that is really known by the public, is that Mueller's office disputes something in the BuzzFeed article but declined to present an explanation. The motive for that is left to speculation. If they said more, they would have been locking themselves into a particular narrative that could inflame the story in the media and inform the defense, and hamper an aspect that is a critical factor in their view of the case. Nevertheless, they want disclosures from getting pre-maturely released.

by Anonymousreply 44January 20, 2019 1:09 AM

R42, of course you’re right, but I would surmise the poster you’re responding to knows this as well. His strategy?? “Bust on Mueller, dude!” It’s a joke. They suck, try won’t win, but they obviously will have to figure that out the hard way.

by Anonymousreply 45January 20, 2019 2:24 AM

We also have to consider that this didn’t come directly from RM.

It could have been ordered by whoever now overseas the department. It could have come from the top. Was it signed by RM? Even if it was, it could have been ordered.

by Anonymousreply 46January 20, 2019 2:59 AM

The SCO is airtight. This came from another legitimate LEO.

by Anonymousreply 47January 20, 2019 3:04 AM

I still find it curious that it took the WH some five hours to non-deny the report, and Mueller's office almost 24 hours to speak to its "inaccuracies".

by Anonymousreply 48January 20, 2019 3:07 AM

You know what would be brilliant right NOW? If Mueller indicted Trump. Right after Giuliani and Trump kissed Bobby Three Sticks ass saying he’s totally credible and should be believed (over Buzzfeed). Half of life is timing.

by Anonymousreply 49January 20, 2019 3:15 AM

great title.

by Anonymousreply 50January 20, 2019 3:37 AM

I just wish Mueller would finish already, so Congress can decide if they are going to impeach this bastard or not.

by Anonymousreply 51January 20, 2019 5:07 AM

I know it would ultimately kill us all, but who else hasn't secretly wished we'd just bomb Russia to the stone age?

by Anonymousreply 52January 20, 2019 5:23 AM

I feel that way more about North Korea, though.

by Anonymousreply 53January 20, 2019 5:43 AM

In addition to Russia and North Korea, I’d like to include our red states.

by Anonymousreply 54January 20, 2019 6:38 AM

It's so hard to keep this stuff secret its a miracle more hasn't come out in the past two years. The media has been doing an outstanding job but Mueller has erected a wall of silence and I'm glad of it. This case is not being tried in the media.

by Anonymousreply 58January 20, 2019 1:34 PM

Anyone read Frank Bruni? The gist is the Trump never wanted to be President. But, if that is so, why did he pay off Stormy and Karen right before the election? At some point he wanted to win. And, does anyone really believe that Trump didn't instruct Cohen to lie about the Trump Tower Moscow project?

by Anonymousreply 59January 20, 2019 2:09 PM

I don't for a moment believe Trump never wanted to be POTUS and never wanted to win. I don't know how the narrative started and why it's persisting but the democrats and liberal inclined need to stop buying into this 'excuse'.

The fucker was chomping at the POTUS bid for decades until he saw the GOP had sufficiently deplorabilized their electorate so that someone like him will be carried through by Magats and the Ruskies.

by Anonymousreply 60January 20, 2019 2:30 PM

Ah R59, my Little BernieBro-cum-Putin-apologist. Here you are again pushing the “Trump never wanted to win angle”. No one bought it yesterday either.

by Anonymousreply 61January 20, 2019 2:41 PM

My apologies R59 — just realized you’re not at all the same guy as yesterday.

That narrative is fostered HERE in this thread series OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

by Anonymousreply 64January 20, 2019 2:52 PM

Pundits and politicians tend to believe Trump didn't intend to win, the rank and file tend to believe otherwise. (Yes, I'm generalizing.)

by Anonymousreply 65January 20, 2019 2:54 PM

You got your talking points down today, R65. You and Chuck Todd.

by Anonymousreply 66January 20, 2019 3:04 PM

Janet Huckabee attacking Pelosi, telling her to grow up. Good grief!

Now let"s get this right:. Janet Huckabee, mother of Sarah, wife of Mike, and ardent Trump supporter, is telling a 78 year old woman doing her second stint as Speaker of the House, and who has spent decades in Congress, to "grow up"?

Can we get more updates on stuff? I don't always get a chance to watch various programs or listen to NPR, and one of the things I love about our Treasons Threads is that with all of us contributing we can generally get a good overview of WTF is happening . Ghouliani was on MTP but I can't stomach him or Todd so I missed it. I also missed Joy Reid the past two days because I was "otherwise occupied" with long awaited visit from a male friend. Yes. It was great, thanks for asking! And of course the twitter feeds and the online news outlets. I've gotten some great referrals here, discovered websites I ordinarily wouldn't know about.

by Anonymousreply 71January 20, 2019 4:17 PM

Tomorrow’s a holiday.

Sounds like you’ll be sitting today

Can get caught up in less than an hour

by Anonymousreply 72January 20, 2019 4:28 PM

One-half hour ago, we reached the midpoint of the Trump presidency. (Barring any fortuitous circumstances that cause him to leave office early.)

by Anonymousreply 73January 20, 2019 4:30 PM

I like to think we are 75% of the way through it.

by Anonymousreply 74January 20, 2019 4:34 PM

I would do whatever I could to keep that silly woman Gillibrand from being nominated...she is as stupid as Trump.

by Anonymousreply 75January 20, 2019 4:43 PM

Giuliani was on with Jake Tapper. He does the same tactics that Kellyanne Conway does:. filibusters to minimize questions and get out all the talking points. The difference is Giuliani will go off-script and doesn't have Kellyanne's sordid, but skilled, deflection techniques. Through his clumsy, deceptive denials, Giuliani is actually admitting and confirming Trump lies. It is perplexing to understand how Giuliani is doing Trump favors. and it looks like Trump's team is trying to get out-front of investigative information to soon be disclosed, in order to diminish the media impact. Such could have the opposite effect if it confirms more lies.

by Anonymousreply 76January 20, 2019 4:43 PM

Yes, Rudy has been moving the goalpost all week. Just this morning, he told Jake Tapper that Trump may have had discussions with Cohen before Cohen's testimony to Congress -- "and if he did, so what?

He also told Chuck Todd that Trump Tower Moscow talks may have lasted as far at October or November 2016 -- longer than even Cohen admitted to in his plea deal with Mueller.

by Anonymousreply 77January 20, 2019 4:48 PM

R75 agree. Giliibrand's has not offered anything beyond the same old pandering verbosity (women, migrants, etc.). She may be popular in NY, but on the primary trail, substance is expected She doesn't show it.

by Anonymousreply 78January 20, 2019 4:52 PM

Jake Tapper to Gillibrand this morning: “If Trump’s immigration positions are racist, were they racist when you held some of those positions as well?”

Is this the end game for Pres Bone Spurs? To send out his demons to now say crimes aren't crimes?

I do not think he wanted to be President at first. I think his aim was to build his profile, get a base of support and start his own propaganda channel. He would be outrageous enough to "lose" yet he would say he was too outspoken to be a politician. I think even Putin thought this. The goal was to get a channel more hard line than Faux. He could sow dissent with this channel where, presumably, anything would go. Breitbart on steroids. Somewhere along the line, they realized his rhetoric was actually working and the Russians found a way to help him win with the help of Wikileaks.

"of course you’re right, but I would surmise the poster you’re responding to knows this as well. His strategy?? “Bust on Mueller, dude!” It’s a joke."

I'm that poster, R45 and you read me 100% wrong. A leak from the NYC office didn't occur to me, and I frankly find that scenario very concerning. Something smells about this whole BuzzFeed controversy and given that the NY FBI office is a right-wing viper's nest, I wouldn't be surprised if BuzzFeed just got played.

by Anonymousreply 84January 20, 2019 5:48 PM

R86 may be in the wrong thread, but I love it anyway. Those smug little douchebags are terrifying. What they were doing is EXACTLY the same as the Nazi Youth following the Jews through the streets on their way to temple in the '30s, laughing and singing anti-Jewish songs. All they've done is swapped out swastikas for MAGA hats.

by Anonymousreply 90January 20, 2019 6:23 PM

r90 Yes, that was disturbing and what Pres Bone Spurs has unleashed is going to have long lasting, damaging consequences. I would love to hear from the people who say both sides are the same. And there are plenty of those still around.

repugs have been exposed. An entire political party is corrupt and selling out our values to the highest bidder. I've never been more proud to be a Democrat and liberal.

by Anonymousreply 91January 20, 2019 7:36 PM

Trump would not have run for President if he didn't intend to win. Everything he did and allowed Russia to do on his behalf makes that crystal clear. A Trump win meant ending of sanctions for Putin, and Trump Tower Moscow for Trump. It's that simple and that criminal.

But even if Putin WEREN'T pulling strings in the background to ensure that Trump beat Hillary - does anyone really believe that the massive ego of Donald Trump would have allowed him to run against Hillary if he didn't full expect to win?

by Anonymousreply 92January 20, 2019 7:55 PM

R92 1000% agreed! Trump sent his minions out to recruit Russian help in order to win! The continuation negotiation over Trump Tower Moscow only makes sense if it is what Trump wants as the quid pro quo for ending sanctions on Russia once he was elected. (The other narrative about the Tower being a consolation prize for running and losing makes zero sense. Putin ain't no fool.) Trump's only trepidation on election day would be whether the Russian collusion worked out in his favor or not, so he could realize this biggest "deal" (scam) of his lifetime.

by Anonymousreply 93January 20, 2019 8:05 PM

This is my observation of Trumps run for prez. And I am well aware it makes no sense, but he is nuts. I don't he wanted to win the presidency, I just think he didn't want to lose.

by Anonymousreply 94January 20, 2019 8:28 PM

Who cares. Ann Coulter has made a comple fool of him. Deplorables are applauding her and not him.

He comes of as a coward loser. The thrill is gone.

Muller can take his time because the deplorables are collapsing in on themselves.

by Anonymousreply 95January 20, 2019 8:37 PM

R94 You're right.. That makes no sense. Just follow the money, it is where the truth about Trump lies. Of course, he could survive losing and make money off of it by becoming the figurehead of "right-wing resistance". But winning could make him richer than losing in his greedy one-track lizard brain, which never could comprehend how difficult changing the course of national policies would be.

by Anonymousreply 96January 20, 2019 8:40 PM

Trump traveled and campaigned more places. He had a vigorous campaign schedule. That did not look as if he was being laissaze-faire about it. The media was obsessed with him, even though much of it was negative. All the cable news channels covered his rallies, and it was advertisers, not him, that paid for it. The media wanted the drama to continue. He fought at the GOP convention to kill the "anybody but Trump" effort. He was brutal in getting Ted Cruz (and Kasich) out of the race during the late primaries. Sheldon Adelson, Koch Bros., Mercers, etc. gave him plenty of money for campaigning. He sure didn't discourage the Russians at any point. Jason Chaffetz, James Comey, Trey Gowdy, and others, went out of their way to take actions that benefited Trump. Sure, Trump was trying hard to win.

by Anonymousreply 97January 20, 2019 8:41 PM

Why are posters like the Fake Former Congressional Intern trying to push this narrative of widdle ol' Trump not wanting to win the Presidency nor expecting to? Who is giving them their talking points on that front?

What is the point of that angle? To get us thinking that Trump is a doddering fool like Reagan, but not evil like Cheney?

It is a definite thing they are working hard to sell OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

by Anonymousreply 98January 20, 2019 8:52 PM

R98 it is a conventional train of thought by a lot of the punditry. See Frank Bruni's article today in the Sunday Times. I don't buy it myself either. I was the one who asked why he would pay off those trollops if he didn't want to win??

Just a note about something someone speculated about upthread: there’s a difference between the SDNY US attorney’s office in NYC, and the FBI NY field office. The FBI field office is what is known as Trumplandia— they leaked, they have a line to Rudy (October surprise 2016), and they hated Hillary. But they are completely different from the SDNY, which is where BuzzFeed News’ info probably came from.

So I don’t think it was a set-up. BuzzFeed News editor in Chief agrees.

Trump didn't just "want" to win; Trump realized he NEEDED to win, as the one sure way to re-pay his and his family's GIGANTIC financial debt to Putin and his oligarch-bankers-mobsters.

To this end---Trump's installation as POTUS to enrich further Team Putin; to offer Russia an unimpeded annexation of Crimea and Ukraine; to remove all sanctions against the Russian oligarchs; to foment international Right-Wing movements; to weaken NATO; to cause civil strife and economic chaos in the rival US; to have a national propaganda voice in the US (FOX); etc.,---

to raise RUSSIA to the staus of #1 World Power.....

Putin began grooming the gullible, excessively greedy, and sociopathic Trump decades ago.

Putin learned that he could control Trump by offering the dreams of a branded international commercial empire and the realities of beautiful women.

Putin learned that he could control our election via hacking and bribery, and with his minions/sympathizers in place (Manafort, Pence, Cohen, McConnell, Page, Papadopoulous, Stone,...).

And so it came to pass. Now Trump must deliver, or else. IOW, Trump saw, and yet sees, the US Presidency as his LITERAL lifeline.

That is why, in the very end-game of the Mueller Investigation into Team Trump's collusion with Russia, Trump seeks frantically "the wall"---that would be built with RUSSIAN-OLIGARCH-OWNED steel!

by Anonymousreply 118January 20, 2019 11:12 PM

by Anonymousreply 126January 21, 2019 12:37 AM

Calm down now. I don't fucking believe him, of course I don't but the fucking press brings it up and he uses it as an excuse. Jeesh. That was my point.

by Anonymousreply 127January 21, 2019 12:49 AM

No one is up in arms so no one has to calm down. The point is, you said he keeps saying he expected not to win and that he uses it as an excuse. I personally haven't heard him say that so I would like to see where he actually said it.

by Anonymousreply 128January 21, 2019 12:53 AM

The claim that Trump didn't expect to win is definitely used as a defense of his behavior - that yeah, he's venal and unethical, but you can't really call him CRIMINAL because his goal wasn't to become president but to build Trump Tower Moscow. And that's bullshit because he had to become president to achieve that goal. It is important that no soft pedaling be done.

by Anonymousreply 129January 21, 2019 1:11 AM

Just a PSA. I'm noticing in one of the other threads where the trolls are out in full force - looking at their histories it's clear that the tactic that was talked about in one of the other threads is true -- the trolls are building up "normal" posts to get people to think they're not trolls and then slowly dropping subtle posts that give Dotard and Deplorables and Putin the "benefit of the doubt."

by Anonymousreply 130January 21, 2019 1:15 AM

I think it's possible he didn't *expect* to win, but that doesn't mean he didn't *try* to win. He and his team knew/thought it was an uphill battle and they may not have been convinced that even with all the Russia help and corruption and GOP trickery that they were able to breach Clinton's expected firewall. And they almost didn't.

I still think the real goal, not just of Trump, the GOP and Russia, but also of the press, was to kneecap Clinton's presidency before it even began. The same press that skewed their coverage so badly in Trump's favor still mostly endorsed Clinton (although really they didn't have a choice if they wanted to still call themselves serious journalists). The plan was to have her so bogged down by "scandals" and "investigations" that she'd get nothing done. The press was primed and ready to go with the failed first female presidency narrative. Remember, they did this to Bill Clinton too, declared him a failure pretty much off the bat.

Not expecting to win isn't the same as not wanting to win. There is a difference and that difference is important.

by Anonymousreply 133January 21, 2019 1:26 AM

Exactly my point R133.

by Anonymousreply 134January 21, 2019 1:27 AM

Trump KNEW he was going to win. He had Putin's guarantee. He wanted to win. He expected to win. He had NO DOUBT he was going to win.

by Anonymousreply 135January 21, 2019 1:30 AM

R134, I know, I was agreeing with you.

by Anonymousreply 136January 21, 2019 1:33 AM

As well, r135, McConnell knew it.

Hence, Merrick Garland.

by Anonymousreply 137January 21, 2019 1:48 AM

And I don't care what anybody says, I still think actual votes were changed. The way that blue wall of states fell like dominoes for Trump? Please.

by Anonymousreply 138January 21, 2019 1:51 AM

He expected to win and planned his candidacy with his Russian oligarch friends for at least 8 years before 2016. He would not have gone in if he wasn't guaranteed a win. And he talked about running for President, entertained the idea of running for President going back to the 80's when he discussed his opinions and a possible candidacy on TV talk shows. Maybe there was a time when he thought he could run as a lark and not expect to win, but that ended by the 2000's. As he laundered their money and got loans from their "banks" they probably flattered and called and primed him and he was more than willing to go with it. People seem to operate under an illusion that Putin "has something" on Trump that makes Trump do or say things. But while I agree the Russians have a lot of dirt on him, I doubt seriously that he was forced or threatened or coerced. I think he sees himself as one of them and embraces his role wholeheartedly. He is making deals right and left, getting licensing agreements with foreign governments, etc and has embraced their agenda very willingly, even enthusiastically.

by Anonymousreply 139January 21, 2019 1:55 AM

Holding up Merrick Garland was minimal risk for McConnell. First of all, the press NEVER holds the GOP to account for stunts like that. Only Dems are expected to act like grownups and get punished for not living up to ever-changing expectations. Second, if Clinton won, she'd likely have renominated him or someone similar, so no real harm done.

I think Trump and McConnell and other major players had assurances that Russia was all in on the effort. And the GO of course went full-on with voter suppression. That's not the same as a guaranteed win though. The NY FBI's office threatening Comey to release that letter fake-reopening the investigation was a Hail Mary pass to try and throw the election to Trump at the last minute. Per 538's analysis, it actually resulted in a significant enough shift in the polls.

In the weeks before the election and even in the weeks after, Trump was not behaving like someone who knew for sure he would win. His transition team was pure chaos--at not just because he's an idiot surrounded by idiots. Even the experienced players were unprepared.

by Anonymousreply 140January 21, 2019 1:58 AM

^ Sorry, meant to add I don't mean to mitigate Trump's corruption. He's hands down the dirtiest, shadiest president we've ever had. And we've had presidents who were slaveowners and genocidal maniacs. But Trump was getting something out of selling out to Russia either way--if he won, great, he's got the White House and can grift like never before. But if he lost he'd be getting some sweet business deals for himself and his crime family, plus the networks/connections he's obtained as the GOP candidate to grift better than he'd ever grifted before. Win-win.

by Anonymousreply 141January 21, 2019 2:02 AM

Trump had to win in order to lift sanctions....thats the only way he could complete the Moscow deal and do business in Russia. It was a given.

r98 Listen little bitch. You have a reading comprehension problem. I never said he didn't want to win the entire time. I said IN THE BEGINNING I don't think he wanted to win but instead, build an audience for his insanity and run a network (with the help of Bannon) that would have given him a voice nonstop AND wealth. That is entirely plausible. I think at some point, and I don't know when, he was all in. So fuck off with your "fake former Congressional Intern" bullshit. You are a division troll. You hate I have inside info. My posts go way back in these threads so fuck the hell off.

by Anonymousreply 147January 21, 2019 2:51 AM

Did she mean "service?"

by Anonymousreply 148January 21, 2019 2:56 AM

I have not posted the “expecting vs wanting” topic in this thread though I have in others. I disagree that thinking Trump has multiple motivations in running in ANY way reduces his criminal liability for what he did, I don’t think it has *any* impact on what the courts must do to him, nor does it make him sympathetic on any level — which is why I previously discussed it. I don’t think it weakens the case against him at all! Also, I did not (and still do not) see how this could possibly impact the charges brought against him nor his sentencing nor civil penalties. It’s illogical to say that if someone had doubts about a plan working, or if they started an event for one reason and midway it changes to something different, that they are no longer accountable — for example, if Chris Watts had second thoughts that he could kill Sha’nnananana, he still did murder her, so the crime isn’t changed nor do I feel sympathy for Chris because she was a horrific wife who pushed him to the edge. That’s how I view this. Trump needs to be punished and die in prison.

Having tried to explain myself (and I think half of us on this topic are not trolls, though there must be some trolls too I suppose), I sincerely apologize if any of my posts made other DLers think I was trying to stir the pot, and the only thing I can do to make it right is refrain from posting on this topic again as it is too divisive. Let’s all just move on from it and not spend more time on it for the sake of unity. Again, my apologies and I offer my willingness to no longer post on that specific topic, that is all I can do.

And there is no way the Congressional Intern poster is fake. That person has been here a loooooooong time and has been consistent and accurate IMHO.

by Anonymousreply 149January 21, 2019 3:03 AM

r149 Thank you! My posts are very consistent about Pres Bone Spurs. His motivations, in the beginning, do not in any way absolve him of any wrong-doing. I do think he was surprised he won even though he was assured he would by Putin.

And it is obvious McConnell was in on it as well. He held Garland up precisely because he knew who would win. It was an INSANE move at the time. The media, and all sides, should have called him out on it and NEVER allowed it to happen. Yet, it is hardly ever mentioned today. It was a disgusting act and showed there is NO limit to how far the GOP will go for power and to keep power.

by Anonymousreply 150January 21, 2019 3:28 AM

R130, the idea that we'll ever be swayed by ANY argument that Trump or Putin deserve a more sympathetic hearing because they deserve the benefit of the doubt is phenomenally risible. Fuck those world destroyers.

by Anonymousreply 151January 21, 2019 3:45 AM

Im sure Congressional Intern is real however nothing he has ever told us has been "news." Everything that has ever been repeated has been stuff we've talked about here prior to his talking to his friend who never confirms any of it - but just smiles or smirks knowingly.

by Anonymousreply 152January 21, 2019 3:46 AM

r152 That is not true. You obviously don't remember some of my summer posts. And I never claim earth shattering news. Ever. But many times her smirks and smiles ARE confirmation. Especially about La Senatrice.

by Anonymousreply 153January 21, 2019 3:57 AM

Okay, R153 then remind us which posts gave us news that we hadn't already discussed.

by Anonymousreply 154January 21, 2019 4:00 AM

by Anonymousreply 156January 21, 2019 4:04 AM

Again, R156, what I said was accurate. We have been talking about what they possibly have on Graham, specifically that there's a video of him being banged by men of color, for a long time, long before you spoke to your friend. And like I said, I didn't doubt that you are, "real." I clearly said none of what you've said was new, that I recalled. And you yourself said numerous times that she doesn't "confirm," but rather smiled or smirked, which is what I said in my post.

by Anonymousreply 157January 21, 2019 4:13 AM

Bernie Sanders is in Columbia, surrounded by a group of younger Bernbros; but he is also headed to speak at Benedict College, a HBC.

Bernie received 23% of the SC Democratic primary vote in 2016. He's now presenting a narrative that he was an early civil rights leader. Wasn't he unemployed then?

by Anonymousreply 177January 21, 2019 3:20 PM

Bernie an early civil rights leader? LOLOL! He's still living in the 60's. He would do better to describe himself as a civil rights activist, or as an ally. Next he'll insist he was an early leader in the Women's Movement. Or the Gay Rights Movement. Good Ol' Bernie. He's like horseshit in a barn...all over the place...

by Anonymousreply 178January 21, 2019 3:25 PM

One more thing re Bernie. I was reading a book about the 1968 Presidential campaign. I'm a political historian. And Hubert Horatio Humphrey was running against Nixon, and Hubert was a passionate, bombastic fellow and he got very carried away during a speech at a synagogue and he said "I was a Jew once myself..." Today that would have gone viral....

by Anonymousreply 179January 21, 2019 3:27 PM

Congressional Intern, we all adore you. I suspect the posters who are fucking harassing you are either trolls or they’re just highly stupid. I mean, what else can any of us offer except our own experiences and opinions? They’re mad that you don’t have coffee with Melania and that you aren’t giving Ivanka the What-What? GTFOH. If they continue, I will just block them, it’s fucking juvenile and they are tipping their hand.

On a different note, the last few Mondays have been Insane in the Membrane. It’s only 10:30cst.

And the third good article from this morning. I don’t see how Rethugs think they’re going to sweep Mueller under the rug lololol...yes Congressional Intern, Your peeps beckon, let’s get moving!!! We know you’re there!

We all need to stick together when one of our own is ganged up on. I have personally defended many other posters in the last year, the trolls smell blood in the water and ALWAYS do a group attack, it’s never alone. So stick together, we need each other to keep these threads accurate, informative, and timely. They’ve done it to me too, numerous times, I’ve had to come out swinging, and it’s fucking annoying. Just keep reminding them they are derailing, FUCK them.

No, actually it’s *you*. Repeatedly “grading” the quality of his posts is a form of harassment.

OP, I’ve been here just as long as you. If you think it’s smart to open the gates to posters perpetually harassing long-time posters here, then you’ll be next. My “tone” is spot on.

by Anonymousreply 193January 21, 2019 4:09 PM

I would also suggest people refrain from calling one another trolls just because somebody disagrees or says anything that you don't agree with. At least check a person's history before you do so and see if you can get a sense if the person is consistently trying to provoke or cause issues.

by Anonymousreply 194January 21, 2019 4:10 PM

"Repeatedly?"

No.

And it's not harassment.

by Anonymousreply 195January 21, 2019 4:11 PM

Let us therefore rely upon the goodness of the Cause..."

by Anonymousreply 199January 21, 2019 4:14 PM

Oh give me a fucking break r195. Whether you did it once or not, there was a group of you tag teaming that poster. So spare me your innocent act.

R198, that’s GREAT if they are a long time poster and not a troll. But I have yet to hear you or that poster explain their intentions.

by Anonymousreply 200January 21, 2019 4:15 PM

I don't really think anyone needs to claim their intentions about what they post just because someone disagrees with it. Sorry, I don't. And I do feel that by continuing on with the accusations that people are harassing others by disagreeing (even if true or not), is pointless and actually derailing the thread more than the posts that offended you.

by Anonymousreply 201January 21, 2019 4:18 PM

Come on guys! If someone calls you a troll, does it really matter? It reflects more on them than you, and if anyone is motivated to block you based on someone else's assessment instead of their own judgement, then they are really too dumb to be here participating in anything resembling the Trump Treason threads.

As for harassing the Intern or anyone else, it's too bad bullying happens anywhere. I hate it. But if you're posting on DL, you are automatically going to be exposed to people who will question your veracity, or criticize you or just act like pigs from time to time. Get over it.

Toughen up and realize you are valued by a lot more people than the loud but minority voices of a few assholes. Now. Can we please get back to the important discussions, analyses and theories we love to posit?

by Anonymousreply 202January 21, 2019 4:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 203January 21, 2019 4:27 PM

OP, then we can agree to disagree. You don’t want to discuss what could *possibly* be the intention of a small group giving a long-timer a hard time? That’s fine. I do think it’s ridiculous that you can’t admit that it isn’t helpful to what we do here. At the worst, that group included some trolls trying to divide us. At best, these posters just decided CI is fake and/or not good enough, so they decided to all say it at the same time, which will only result in less people sharing. It’s always been like that on DL, the more legit posters are harassed, the less willing they are to share. Reading the older gossip threads is a testament to that, that’s exactly why Hollywood insiders stopped coming here — but you think it’s smart to do nothing. Just know that the same will be done to you, and you are encouraging it. I disagree that passively sitting back is a good strategy — to each their own.

R202, I know you are right, but we’ve had many excellent posters chased off this site. That’s actually the only reason I sometimes speak up — i selfishly don’t want to lose them!! But I will let this go now, there will be a lot to discuss today I’m sure.

No, I don't think every person should have to justify what they say just because someone disagrees with it. I think that in itself divides the group and derails the thread. I looked back at what occurred in those posts and I personally don't view it the way you've summarized it. I don't think people "tag teamed," or "ganged up." I see one person called Congressional Intern a fake. The next person said Congressional Intern was real, however didn't feel that any news was "new." That actually seemed in defense of CI. Congressional Intern replied and said he had previously provided new information. The subsequent post asked what those were. The next one said yes, they'd be open to hearing about it, etc. Those exchanges, aside from the one calling CI a fake, seemed more like a discussion rather than harassment and everyone in those few exchanges seemed to have worked it out.

It is the others that chimed in after that has derailed the thread and there wasn't a need for it.

Whoever is our Dem Presidential candidate in 2020, I would like them to make the following talking point: Both Trump and McTurtle are traitors to the country. Trump is a Russian agent and McTurtle is working against the Constitution and the laws of the land.

If I could go back to R105 for a moment:

[quote] Just a note about something someone speculated about upthread: there’s a difference between the SDNY US attorney’s office in NYC, and the FBI NY field office. The FBI field office is what is known as Trumplandia— they leaked, they have a line to Rudy (October surprise 2016), and they hated Hillary. But they are completely different from the SDNY, which is where BuzzFeed News’ info probably came from.

In my original speculation, I was very careful to include both the NYC Field Office of the FBI and the "prosecution team" from the SDNY because we don't know exactly where the leak arises. I agree that it likely is the SDNY, but it could be someone from the FBI or another law enforcement agency that is working on the cases on the prosecution team.

by Anonymousreply 214January 21, 2019 4:46 PM

R214 I agree with you. We all know it is the NY FBI office that is filled with Trumpers. It makes sense that the SDNY could be the leak.

by Anonymousreply 215January 21, 2019 4:48 PM

I actually saw a comment on FB where someone believed Mueller issued the correction because he's finally ready to admit he has nothing on Dear Leader and is now going to arrest Hillary for causing all these problems because she faked the Steele Dossier.

by Anonymousreply 216January 21, 2019 4:51 PM

Sidebar, (I’m r204) I finally ignored the OP just to confirm his identity and in my Ignore area, it doesn’t even show all of OP’s posts. This is another reason I don’t always bother to verify if someone is an actual troll or not — this feature sucks. Wish we could go back to piss yellow Trolldar, that never failed and it was much easier to use and it would ease our paranoia and suspicions.

R218, I really feel that Dems are missing an opportunity to squeeze McConnel right now. We should all be lighting up Schumer’s phone lines. I am the opposite of an AOC fan, but thought it was fucking fabulous that she was dragging McConnell. McConnell’s ass needs to be in the fire now, now, now. Who in the Dems should do it? I’ll call them today!!! They could really damage McConnell with this, WTF are they waiting for????

What a bunch of loons those people are. He "hasn't found anything." Sure, Jan. How many people have pled guilty or been convicted? How many times has tRump changed his story? We now have Rudy admitting that there may have been collusion on the campaign but that the Dotard didn't collude. Yeah, right.

The only thing about the Steele Dossier that hasn't been proven accurate yet is the pee-pee tape.

by Anonymousreply 221January 21, 2019 5:15 PM

I sent her campaign money, and would absolutely do so again if she took on McConnell. I actually think she has the right stuff to win. In the fall she didn’t receive enough coverage early enough to build momentum. She absolutely could beat the turtle, and I hope she runs again. The people of Kentucky have been so demoralized that they’re actually more willing to listen to a Dem now.

by Anonymousreply 235January 21, 2019 6:34 PM

R234, no, the tape was not seen, Christopher Steele was simply repeating the gossip his Russian contacts told him. Plus they continue to be good for a laugh. But, as time has gone on, more details from other aspects of the Dossier have been filled in that show exactly how much of traitor tRump is.

I hate McConnell and was curious about him. Some stats I found: McConnell won his current seat in 2014 by 222,089 votes (806,787 to 584,698) over a Democratic challenger. He's been in the Senate since 1984 (35 years). His senatorial annual salary is $193,400. His net worth was listed as $26,927,535 in 2015. Much of his wealth comes from his rich wife, who also draws a salary as head of the Department of Transportation, but their wealth grows by McConnell's consistent votes for tax cuts and other benefits for the uber rich.

Apparently, even his Kentuckian constituents don'e like him. But, yeah, Republicans. Loathsome creatures.

Former Congressional Intern here- Wow. So first, thank you to the poster(s) who were defending me. It did feel like I was being attacked and it happened at a time of night the trolls have been descending here lately. Whoever offered a BJ, well, thank you too. I would gladly accept if I am ever in DC again. :) I'm early 30's and in good shape! I've been attacked like this before so it is why I got a tad defensive. Sorry about that.

I try to bring gossip that is highly likely to be true. My source (friend) could not, for obvious reason, state it is for a fact. We had signals. I've always said it was nothing earth shattering. And my updates are not frequent. I wish I could bring more. I will have more soon as she is in a new job where she is more free to share explicitly. She has promised some really good gossip. She knows some sensitive stuff and she knows I post here so she doesn't want anything to happen like I "fall" out a window. LOL. J/k

Anyway, we have to be vigilant about trolls here and that will, inevitably, lead to some of the true blue posters being called trolls. We need to be hyper aware of troll tactics and support each other. They are working over time to divide us.

I forgot about the taking it to the streets troll. Thanks for the reminder.

by Anonymousreply 283January 21, 2019 11:33 PM

What IS the TITTS troll, I don’t recall? I like my “tits” acronym for that troll.

by Anonymousreply 284January 21, 2019 11:50 PM

The TITTS troll was the troll that was in here that kept trying to get people to take it to the streets. Protest, etc. etc. etc. However, the way the posts were written didn't seem innocent. It seemed more like someone who was trying to get people to incite violence. I just remember he would always screech that everyone was basically useless and not fighting unless they took it to the streets - meanwhile he certainly wasn't taking anything to the streets - he was just busy posting about it on DL.

About the Former Congressional Intern—I'm in the DMV and find him credible.

To posters not from the area, you should know that it's incredibly common for the flotsam of gossip to drift from, let's say, congressional office to happy hour to brunch table. There's no explicit agreement to keep things to yourself, only an implicit agreement that what you are discussing is part of the hive mind. You put some in; you take some out. Rinse and repeat. I think posting on this board is an interpretation of the implicit agreement but not necessarily bad form. I don't post anything said in the confidence of my social life, but I'm often glad others do.

Um.. so if R274 caught you and exposed you as the Titts troll, where's the "blatant liar" part come in? Looks like the truth to us.

Does it matter? Can't you be both a former congressional intern and someone who advocates direct action all the time? In what way is that discrediting to you?

I haven't read the three hundred posts in this thread so there may be a lot of dl bitching I missed here but I still can't see that it makes much of a difference unless you're playing some games here.

by Anonymousreply 293January 22, 2019 12:20 AM

r293 He didn't catch me in anything because it was not true. But I see what you are doing. Everyone, feel free to dig deep into my posts. Go ahead.

by Anonymousreply 294January 22, 2019 12:23 AM

The trolls that come along at certain time of night don't normally speak to a particular person or address anyone at all. They normally just spout incoherently or post things that are divisive and then never even respond to the people calling them out.

People can disagree and/or think or have opinions about somebody and then someone else can chime in agreeing without them being a troll. Otherwise people can also say when a bunch of people defend someone else that it's suspicious and troll like.

And to clarify, I was someone who asked the Intern what information he provided that we didn't talk about AFTER he insisted he had and I was curious as to what it was. That was no way an attack. My engagement with him was to get more info because I was genuinely confused. I never once said he wasn't real or that he was full of it, with regard to the information he had shared but it apparently seemed like an attack to him.

At any rate, the whole Former Intern thing has now gone on and continued to derail the thread moreso than the original posts.

R310 Democrats are launching investigations into a lot of Trump and his administration's misdeeds. They could not do anything for 2 years because IDIOTS in this country did not vote for them to control Congress. Hell, they only control the House now (which is great but should have been Senate too).

by Anonymousreply 323January 22, 2019 2:36 AM

The corporate media doesn't help because they allow the spin that "both sides are playing" and "both sides need to get serious about the shutdown" when HE FUCKING SAID HE WILL DO IT AND PROUDLY! Yet 30 odd percent think the Dems are to blame. WHAT? They didn't even control ANY part of the govt when it was shutdown and the repugs had TWO YEARS of total control to do it and didn't.

It's time the corporate media go in for the kill. Enough is enough. No more KAC or Ghouliani or any of his enablers.

by Anonymousreply 324January 22, 2019 2:40 AM

So if 42 Senators voted to lift the sanctions they didn't pass, right? Because it either takes a simple majority, or it takes 60 votes to pass anything in the Senate. And btw: WTF are the senators doing? They all ought to be striking and refusing to do any work until McConnell allows a vote to reopen the government. The same legislation that passed by 90 votes in December, and which the House just passed two weeks ago? They have enough votes to override a Presidential veto. WTF are they afraid of. I'd vote to reopen the government and I'd also vote to expel McConnell and send his ass back to Kentucky.

by Anonymousreply 326January 22, 2019 2:44 AM

by Anonymousreply 328January 22, 2019 2:49 AM

Tonight I saw Michael Isakoff on Chris Hayes, and he really pissed me off. He had this accusatory tone and said that it’s time for the Dems to actually “DO THEIR JOBS” like they haven’t done their jobs with regards to the shutdown. He ALSO was bitching that *all* of the Congressional hearings held in the last two years for matters relating to Russia weren’t held in Open Sessions — he blamed the Dem for this!!!!! WTF?!?!? If you watch CH, watch that segment and tell me if I’m overreacting, maybe I am. But I think I’m going to contact him, it is SUCH fucking bullshit, whose side is he on?!? If he’s trying to spur action, he could do that without blaming Dems. My tolerance for bullshit has never been lower.

by Anonymousreply 329January 22, 2019 2:52 AM

I will say this. The Democrats need to get out here and make their case. We know what Trump wants and we know he is effectively labeling the Democrats as favoring open borders. So the Democrats are playing defense and allowing him and the GOP to define them and the field of play. The Democrats need to make their case and clearly say what they want to do. Say it in soundbites people will understand. The Democrats are definitely in favor of border security, but it's 2019 and a wall is too expensive and it would be obsolete before it's ever started. There are ways to secure our borders with less costly technology. The other thing I don't hear often enough is that Trump had a majority in both houses for two years. Why now?

by Anonymousreply 330January 22, 2019 2:57 AM

I saw Isakoff the other day on some show and I really just wanted to slap his face off.

by Anonymousreply 331January 22, 2019 3:06 AM

R329 What this show you is that a big part of the media itself has been compromised. No journalists with integrity would be spewing Trump talking points like that. He is knowingly misleading the viewers. And as R330 says, the Republican Congress couldn't approve the funds for the stupid wall over two years, so this whole argument that the Dems are the obstacle and the recent "offer" are false political propaganda to make Trump look like the reasonable party. This has nothing really to do with a wall, but Trump is using the government standoff to get the media to constantly bombard people with insecurity about the border while he claims he is the one who can bring security.

by Anonymousreply 332January 22, 2019 3:16 AM

[quote]He ALSO was bitching that *all* of the Congressional hearings held in the last two years for matters relating to Russia weren’t held in Open Sessions — he blamed the Dem for this!!!!! WTF?!?!?

R329 is misleading at best. Isikoff did NOT blame the Dems for the last two years of hearings.

He said they must be in open sessions -- as of NOW.

He made a lot of sense. His premise was that the SC's regulation doesn't say he must produce a public report. Mueller's report is submitted to the AG and from there, guess what happens to it while Trump / GOP is in office. That's why Isikoff is adamant that Congress must do its own investigations without waiting for the SC to issue a report that may not be made public -- and that Congress isn't obliged to seek anyone's permission, specifically, the Special Counsel's, in order to investigate and hold hearings, like it didn't wait for Archibald Cox's permission to do so during Watergate. On the contrary, Congress has its own duty to uphold on that front, and which it didn't do in the last two years under the Rethugs.

That's also why he insists on open hearings in Congress from Elijah Cummings and Adam Schiff. He didn't like Schiff's talk about hearings behind closed doors.

It's one opinion, and it has its merits.

Again, he never accused the Dems for the last two years of congressional hearings.

by Anonymousreply 333January 22, 2019 3:24 AM

If Trump Media refuses to be honest about anything...they are just as guilty as Trump and Mitch. They know the majority of Americans did not ask for a wall and does not want one. Why don't the Dems look for the kickback, going to Trump? Trump is always the same, he is trying to make a buck off suckers. Wise up folks.

by Anonymousreply 334January 22, 2019 3:24 AM

I believe Trump is already in campaign mode trying to woo back the independent voters he and the GOP lost during the midterms, and he has help from compromised people in the media to skew stories against the Dems and even the media itself to make Trump look like a leader rather than a loser. Remember Obama let McConnell put him in a strangle hold for the last couple of years of his last term and Trump is not going to let Pelosi corner him like that and he is not above corrupting the media to get the upper hand.

by Anonymousreply 335January 22, 2019 3:27 AM

R333 Isikoff absolutely stated with anger that the last two years there were no open sessions. He then follows that up with ranting about the Dems “doing their job” with an anger than implied they had not been doing their job. I did not think he had a supportive tone toward the Dems at ALL, sorry.

by Anonymousreply 336January 22, 2019 3:35 AM

by Anonymousreply 337January 22, 2019 3:35 AM

[quote]. He then follows that up with ranting about the Dems “doing their job” with an anger than implied they had not been doing their job.

Nope, it didn't imply anything like that about the last two years at all.

He stated that Dems -- as the House majority NOW -- better start holding open hearings as of NOW. And I agree with him. Who here will guarantee that Mueller will deliver on -- and will be allowed to publicize -- Trump's crimes, as we expect from him?

by Anonymousreply 338January 22, 2019 3:42 AM

Oh for the love of Mike!

Because Trump is such a lousy deal maker over the government shutdown, the teevee just ran some clips of Trump fetishizing deal making. It makes the whole process feel really perverted.

by Anonymousreply 339January 22, 2019 3:45 AM

R338 Obviously we interpret it differently. He was checking off the Dems who need to “do their job” by name, but I don’t believe he dropped a single Rethug name. And of course I agree with the majority of what he said too — I want open hearings and transparency as well. I simply would have appreciated him giving a single sentence about Mitch McConnell not “doing his job” too. I own his book, so I am familiar with him, again, you and I interpreted what he said a little differently.

by Anonymousreply 340January 22, 2019 3:51 AM

And here is most of Isikoff's commentary tonight where he says -- surprise surprise - nothing of the sort R329 / R336 accuse him of.

by Anonymousreply 342January 22, 2019 3:53 AM

[quote] In this climate and circustances, I am surprised Democrats and the media did not make a much bigger fuss about this.

If a tree falls in the forest and the media fails to report it, did it make a sound? The problem is that the media does not cover the Democrats. The Progressive Caucus holds daily briefings and not one has ever been covered by the media. That might be one thing Ocasio-Cortez will be good for getting attention for the Progressive Caucus. They talk about the actual things Democrats in this country care about and what they are doing to reach those goals.

Also, the "both sides" shit has got to end. Yeah, there are always two sides...truth and fucking lies. They need to start calling out the Repugs for all their fucking lies.

by Anonymousreply 343January 22, 2019 3:54 AM

r341? You didn’t even play the actual section we’ve been discussing. My opinion is the same as before, I think he was harder on the Dems, yet softer on the Rethugs than we need. R344, let's try to comprehend what Isikoff talks about starting at 0:47, shall we ?

by Anonymousreply 346January 22, 2019 4:35 AM

OMG, Ghouliani is literally insane!

- But I can tell you, from the moment I read the story, I knew the story was false.

- Because?

- Because I have been through all the tapes, I have been through all the texts, I have been through all the e-mails, and I knew none existed. And then, basically, when the special counsel said that, just in case there are any others I might not know about, they probably went through others and found the same thing.

- Wait, what tapes have you gone through?

- I shouldn’t have said tapes. They alleged there were texts and e-mails that corroborated that Cohen was saying the President told him to lie. There were no texts, there were no e-mails, and the President never told him to lie.

- So, there were no tapes you listened to, though?

- No tapes. Well, I have listened to tapes, but none of them concern this.

.....

- Saying things for Trump, not always being truthful about it—do you ever worry that this will be your legacy? Does that ever worry you in any way?

- Absolutely. I am afraid it will be on my gravestone. “Rudy Giuliani: He lied for Trump.” Somehow, I don’t think that will be it. But, if it is, so what do I care? I’ll be dead. I figure I can explain it to St. Peter. He will be on my side, because I am, so far . . . I don’t think, as a lawyer, I ever said anything that’s untruthful. I have a sense of ethics that is as high as anybody you can imagine. I’ve been doing this forever. I am doing what I believe in. I may not always be right, but I am doing what I believe. And I believe this man has been treated horribly. Including this BuzzFeed thing. And I think the whole reason they are misinterpreting what I said and a few other things is that they don’t want to deal with the real ramifications of the BuzzFeed story, which is, how bad has our media become, that they can publish something like that about the President of the United States that is totally untrue and leads to one day of saying he should be impeached, by Democrats and Hollywood. And even the special counsel, who I think would like to nail them if they can, had to say, ‘You are way off base and getting hysterical.’ Somebody lied to BuzzFeed who pretended to be a federal agent, or BuzzFeed is lying. That’s the big story of the last few days, not some revelation about when Trump talked to Cohen.

One thing I think many of us keen observers of the last two years have wanted is to see people like Nuñez, Gym Jordan, and the rest of the Trump asslickers in the GOP House be investigated for all the shenanigans they pulled during their sham investigation. Looks like Democrats might be doing just that now that they have the power.

R367 Republican Chris Collins was indicted, and still got re-elected in the 27th district of NY.

Too much of the electorate is so damn stupid. Liberal or Conservative, Republican or Democrat, electing tax evaders, bribe takers, embezzlers, or any other kind of thief, should not be acceptable.

by Anonymousreply 377January 22, 2019 3:18 PM

So. Eleven Republicans and 43 Democrats = 54. We need to find 6 more Republicans so McConnell can't use the 60 vote vs. 51 vote thing. And if we can get to 67 votes we have McConnell's expelled from the Senate and we have Trump convicted of Treason. Yaaay!!! Schumer is helping to peel away those Republicans and I admit I had very little confidence in him, but he is starting to impress me.

by Anonymousreply 378January 22, 2019 3:25 PM

I think republican PAC money contols the votes. If a republican goes against the vote they won't have the money to win the next election.

John Roberts is reporting that the House sergeant-at-arms has been delivered a letter from the White House asking to schedule a walk-through for next week's anticipated State Of the Union address.

Last week, the sergeant-at-arms canceled a planned walk-through at the request of Nancy Pelosi.

(It's on Fox, so I'm not linking.)

R379, McConnell and Ryan have at least five or six big donor Super Pacs between them and that's how they keep their people in line. They buy them. And the Rich guys prefer going to one stop shopping, although they do still give to individual candidates. Senate Majority Leader and House Speaker also have perks to give out to their caucus. They can make a member's life miserable and difficult if they want to. They can deny privileges and requests.

WHO were the 11 Republicans? I want to know who wasn’t compromised.

by Anonymousreply 382January 22, 2019 3:36 PM

The Republican senators who voted with Democrats were John Boozman of Arkansas; Susan Collins of Maine; Tom Cotton of Arkansas; Steve Daines of Montana; Cory Gardner of Colorado; Josh Hawley of Missouri; John Kennedy of Louisiana; Martha McSally of Arizona; Jerry Moran of Kansas; Marco Rubio of Florida; and Ben Sasse of Nebraska.

by Anonymousreply 389January 22, 2019 4:39 PM

The question will be, how many of the Independents will swing toward the Democrats? HRC had most of them go against her late. And add any two doesn't equalv100% in the poll. And campaigns have flips. Agree with R388, 40-41% is not so comforting. If Trump was polling in the mid-30s, that would be more assuring that he can't get re-elected.

Just to be clear Gillibrand missed the bringing sanctions to the floor vote that only needed 50 votes and passed easily. She did NOT miss the actual sanctions bill vote.

I am assuming that the people posting about her missing the vote are conflating the two different votes and not actual trolls, but I think we all need to be careful about posting untrue or derogatory information about potential Democratic candidates. The trolls are most effective when the get non-trolls to repeat their talking points and poison the well of public opinion.

Personally I am team Harris/Biden or Harris/O”rourke or Klobucher/O’Rourke , but it would be my honor to vote for Gillibrand for President should she get the nomination.

by Anonymousreply 395January 22, 2019 4:56 PM

40% (give a point or two either way depending on the poll),. approve of Trump's job performance. That could diminish by a few percentage points among those that are not so diehard.

There's going to be a third of the electorate (33%-35%) that will not abandon Trump regardless of what happens, I. e. indictments, Mueller report, shutdown, sex scandals, fawning to Putin, outsmarted by Kim Jong Un, Wall antics, economy dip, etc. Trying to change their minds is wasted energy. Rupert Murdoch's media cleverly manipulates their views.

by Anonymousreply 396January 22, 2019 5:11 PM

Donald Trump's motives are perfectly clear: he wants to outdo his father. He is a man who has never in his life known love, which he is passing down to his own children. He tried to get his father's approval, but was rebuffed, resulting in his getting sent to military school. As with most absentee parents, his dad thought he could buy off his kid's approval by giving him money. However, Don only wanted approval, but dad saw his son was a failure, so he never gave it. Now, he demonstrates every day that he is following in his father's footsteps. When have you seen him with Barron? Doesn't a dad spend time with his son, take him to games, etc? But this recluse only golfs solo. He is so obsessed by approval ratings , because they are his way of thinking people like him - hence the staged rallies. He never wanted to run for pres, but it's something his father never did. So, he took his illegal business practices to the White House, thinking he could get away with it. He tried to please Putin, but has failed at that too. Now he has the wall and the shutdown. The wall is the single tangible structure that will cap off his feeling of power. Trump Tower, Trump blah, blah, blah. It's all to build the empire his dad never had. He will never capitulate on the wall, because it represents everything he is not - a person who has known and given love and who genuinely cares about others ( how can he, he doesn't know how). He's to be pitied ; pitied, not excused, for his entire life is a futile attempt to prove to himself that he is worthy and accepted. He will never succeed.

by Anonymousreply 397January 22, 2019 5:24 PM

Most of the “not diehard” people already left. You have to be pretty damn diehard to think that shutting down the country is just peachy.

What concerns me is that a lot of “Independents” are really Republicans. Look at recent figures for “Independents.” It’s more than either Democrats and Republicans in many cases, a huge number of people. Some lean right and some left, but the left-leaning are extremists that don’t really support the party or its goals, and the right-leaning are often moderates that don’t support one person, Trump. They are okay with all the rest of it.

Doesn’t mean the right-leaning won’t “come home” to the party on Election Day and vote straight party line. A lot of those so-called Independents are the same people that said they “just had to” vote for Trump because they just couldn’t vote for that awful, horrible Hillary with all her policies and plans. They said they plugged their noses and voted for Trump, said that his pussy grabbing and cheating on Melania was disgusting, but voted for him anyway. They got what they voted for, and to quote Casablanca, they are “shocked, simply shocked” that Trump is exactly what it says on the tin.

Doesn’t mean they won’t vote for him again on single issues, like, “no taxes,” or “the babieeez.” They do agree about those.

by Anonymousreply 398January 22, 2019 5:25 PM

The only way Trump drops under 40% is if Fox and Rush turn on him. I believe it is more likely we might see Fox people change their tune with the exception of Hannity and Pirro.

by Anonymousreply 400January 22, 2019 5:48 PM

R394 I was one that posted on the topic recently, and when the vote actually happened. Both/or thrice times I provided links to credible sources, i. e. WP, NYT, maybe Politico.

You are correct though, there was a procedural vote; and the vote to try to deny lifting the sanctions. As you pointed out, Guillibrand missed the procedural vote, Sanders missed the second.

In my posts, I assumed most knew the distinctions. Both votes were important as the first vote is somewhat a predictor and an initial measure of sentiments. Some of the articles addressed the initial vote. However, your clarification point is very appropriate. Posters vary in the scope of information they hold in terms of sharing opinions, often quite inflexible and emotional..

I did not see 'sanctions vote' posters as trolls and would not imply they were. That does not mean there are not the Putty/ St. Petersburg trolls, Alt-right trolls, stalking trolls, single topic (anti-trans for ex.) trolls, anti-LGBT trolls from evangelicals for profit organizations, etc. But too many are using the term loosely when they object to another's opinion.

On a personal note, you deliver some very good, sensible posts. I appreciate seeing them.

The Covington School could invite the Native-American individuals that were harrassed to the school and formally express regret and have those kids apologize, one by one. Invite their parents, and ask the Native-Americans to speak, and perhaps re-perform the presentation/chant that was done in DC. Ban MAGA hats, T-shirts, and signs.

If any kids don't cooperate, dismiss them. I know the story is more complicated, but it would show the school is trying to make matters better and offer a learning experience.

Going to the WH would not be smart.

by Anonymousreply 427January 22, 2019 10:53 PM

R418 Yes, the 'Russher' trolls mostly post in the wee morning hours of the U.S. east. The scripts are mostly short, and the messaging is either contrary or an expression of "concern" that a situation cannot be changed. Sometimes they are agreeing, delivering such comments coupled with racially, religious, or geographically-stereotypic language to inflame divisiveness. Their syntax and word usage sometimes gives them away. They appear more frequently when there is breaking news they seek to influence. Also, when negative news is anticipated per their interests, their talking points are often parallel to those of domestic right-wing media outlets. Coordination at some level looks apparent.

by Anonymousreply 428January 22, 2019 10:54 PM

I think one of the new troll tactics is, "I wish the FBI would have..." "I wish Mueller would..."

by Anonymousreply 429January 22, 2019 11:00 PM

Not even to themselves.

by Anonymousreply 430January 22, 2019 11:10 PM

1.....Don't be surprised if in Muellers final report, Bernie is implicated. Its gonna happen. Tad Devine didnt find his way to the Sanders campaign for no reason.

2. Just a hypothetical....lets assume Trump gets away with it. Everything hes done to kiss Putins ass was all done in order for Trump to build Trump Towers in Russia. He had to ease sanctions for the financing. I know that is more complicated, but thats the crux of it. Anyway, wouldnt it be hysterical, if after all Trumps done, Putin tells him to Fuck Off and doesnt let him expand into Russia.

Napoleon notoriously straightened and widened the streets of Paris because he had learned how easy they were to block during the Revolution. I’m reminded of that by how wide the streets of DC are. And with modern guns, it would be very difficult to successfully storm a building like Congress or the White House in a revolution.

I’m just thinking. In the event of a fascist takeover, if the military was with the Adventurists, it would be hard to overthrow them.

If anyone ever tells me that the rethugs are the party of law and order - I will fucking lose it! Fucking cunts!

Speaking of Russia, there were 22 Republicans who did Putin's bidding last night and voted against NATO. Names include Trump lickspittles Jim Jordan, Mark Meadows and Louis Gohmert.

I can't tell you how many times I have seen my local deplorables respond to posted news articles on Facebook about how bad they want Trump to just completely get rid of both the FBI and CIA.

I've lost track of where we are with the tax returns; are they being investigated as part of Mueller's investigation? The House? SDNY?

by Anonymousreply 469January 23, 2019 11:50 AM

R449 The plural of Obama is Obamas.

An apostrophe is not used to make a name plural.

Are the Trump Normalizers still working their talking points about how he didn’t really want to win?

by Anonymousreply 471January 23, 2019 12:14 PM

R467, to me that is near the nadir of disgusting, scary, etc., news in the past 2+ years. There have always been anti-NATO weirdos, but now it's a concept that is mainstream enough to publicly vote for. Not good for my blood pressure, not good for democracies worldwide. Someday this waking nightmare will be over and we'll say "whew, that was close!", or at least I hope so.

by Anonymousreply 472January 23, 2019 12:34 PM

I think it’s Obami.

by Anonymousreply 473January 23, 2019 12:55 PM

Amen, R472. But I look at it this way. Pelosi let them vote on it. She didn't stop it. The legislation failed and we now know exactly who supported it. It's all public record. It almost makes me wonder about the "Freedom Caucus" and where they get their support. I know Roger Ailes and Fox News invented the Tea Party. And it sort of morphed into this Freedom Caucus, but who backs them? Ryan's two Pacs got a lot of rubles. Was that the extent of it? I doubt it.

by Anonymousreply 474January 23, 2019 12:56 PM

Thanks, R474. Pelosi's political instincts are amazing; thank god for her leadership in these dark times. My suspicions are immediately aroused any time I see a jackass GOP politician who sports an American flag lapel pin, as I'm convinced most (practically all?) of the GOPers of that ilk are overcompensating for their lack of national patriotism. It's all about their lust for money and power and keeping their boots on the necks of most Americans. Obviously.

NATO is essential and the US is an essential member. It's ridiculous that this needs to be stated and repeated, but apparently it's not self-evident to enough people these days.

Great idea, R476. I might give it a shot my-own-damn-self.

by Anonymousreply 478January 23, 2019 1:35 PM

So Politico is reporting Trump's disapproval ratings are at an all time high. 57% of Americans think he is doing a bad job. In another category, 35% say Congress is doing a bad job.

There were other numbers but those two stand our. IMO, 57% is not nearly high enough. We want him over 60%. Way over. As for Congress, that's an interesting number. Congress always has low approval ratings. Everyone hates Congress generically. But their own specific Congress member is fine. So for Congress to have a 35% disapproval because people blame them for the shutdown, is pretty good in a way.

I would love to see a legitimate poll of Pelosi's numbers.

by Anonymousreply 479January 23, 2019 1:39 PM

The BullyBoy told his staff to call Congress and tell them He wanted to do a walk through for the State of the Union, and the Sargeant at Arms refused them. Trump thought he'd ignore Pelosi and muscle his way in, but apparently not. It will be interesting to see what he will do about it.

He can always go to the Senate but that's not big enough to accommodate his cabinet, or the GOP House members or the Justices. LOL! I bet he has a picture of Pelosi on his dart board. With his personality he has to be seriously pissed off at her.

I bet he and Bill Schine, his communications Director and mastermind will think of something.

by Anonymousreply 480January 23, 2019 1:45 PM

R329, Isikoff is not necessarily on the Democrats' side, FYI. He was the first and one of the most vitriolic critics of Bill Clinton, re: Monica, writing the book "Uncovering Clinton."

He has said, for no discernible reasons, that some of the Steele Dossier claims are "likely false."

by Anonymousreply 481January 23, 2019 1:48 PM

He will take it out of town and do it in front of the adoring cretins who make up his base. He will not do it in the Oval Office, since the only thing he craves is attention. It will turn into a political rally speech.

by Anonymousreply 482January 23, 2019 1:48 PM

Even if he gave his speech in the capital, he'd still give the same speech as at a rally, so might as well make him book a stadium in oshkosh for that bullshit.

Along with fifteen or so others in the so-called Freedom Caucus, Biggs, Gaetz, Gohmert, Gym Jordan, and Meadows have been ringleaders in the efforts to undermine the Mueller investigation in the House. Nunes is in a category all to himself, blatantly exhibiting obstructionist behavior when he was Chair of the House Intelligence Committee. He is still on the Committee. Kevin McCarthy is allowing it.

The media needs to a better job of idenifying and exposing these Putin-enabling, pro-Trumpian authoritarianist politicians in the House and Senate.

by Anonymousreply 486January 23, 2019 2:10 PM

R480 yes. The Sergeant of Arms reports to Nancy Pelosi. It is not a political job, but administrave, technical, and ceremonial Paul D. Irving has worked under both Democratic and Republican Speakers.

We have three agendas in 2020.

#1. Defeat Trump/Pence or WTFever is the Republican POTUS.

#2. Take and hold both houses of Congress.

#3. Make sure we elect more Democratic Governors andState Legislatures. 202 is when legislative redistricting happens and they are the ones who do it. So vote Democratic all up and down the ballot.

The motto in 2020 is "Crush them!"

I hope she doesn't cave. When she said there was a security concern that was not a joke. The fact is, a lot of people who are currently furloughed that work on the Hill, not for DHS, but in the Capitol, would have to be called back to work simply to accommodate the physical presence of Trump and his dog and pony show, not to mention his prima donna family, his cabinet, and the Supreme Court justices. It's very thoughtless and very Imperial. It's a wholly selfish move. The same people would then be ought of work the next day, and for the foreseeable future. When his Neo Nazi DHS Director jumps to say "we can secure the Capitol," she's too stupid to realize all the other people involved. There's no consideration for the hundreds Hill staff people that have to be involved. This is not simply a matter of bomb sniffing dogs, and extra Secret Service and federal marshals. This is a whole operation. I pray Pelosi stands firm. This is not a "both sides" argument. He needs to get the fuck out of the way and let the Senate vote to reopen the government. He is the one who is casting this as Trump vs. Pelosi. Tell the media to stop the bullshit .get on Twitter and contact every single media person you can and raise hell.

Trump threatening Cohen and his family!

by Anonymousreply 539January 23, 2019 5:41 PM

Shit, Cohen's postponing his testimony. I'm sure Mueller has what he needs, but this would be *so important* in letting the public know just how awful Donald is. On the other hand, Cohen's saying it's due to threats.

by Anonymousreply 540January 23, 2019 5:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 546January 23, 2019 5:54 PM

R544's contributions to this thread have been very insightful.

by Anonymousreply 547January 23, 2019 5:56 PM

“By advice of counsel, Mr. Cohen’s appearance will be postponed to a later date,” said Cohen's lawyer, Lanny Davis, in a statement. “Mr. Cohen wishes to thank Chairman Cummings for allowing him to appear before the House Oversight Committee and looks forward to testifying at the appropriate time.” He added, “This is a time where Mr. Cohen had to put his family and their safety first.”

by Anonymousreply 548January 23, 2019 5:57 PM

so Trump's threats are working. Just when I was getting my hopes up for more of his bs to be exposed

by Anonymousreply 549January 23, 2019 5:57 PM

Yes his threats are working. His bullying of the House will works as well. We don't know how to stand up to tyranny anymore outside polite channels, it seems. People don't know how to go to war within legal channels.

by Anonymousreply 550January 23, 2019 5:59 PM

Shut up, TROLL R549, his threats are decidedly NOT working. We have a Democratically controlled House because his threats of violence didn't work.

by Anonymousreply 553January 23, 2019 6:02 PM

Michael Cohen has to report to prison on March 6th. Postponing the Feb 7th testimony means he has less than 4 weeks to reschedule.

by Anonymousreply 554January 23, 2019 6:03 PM

Also, I disagree with the idea that bullying the House is going to work. If anything, it's continuing to expose how ineffective Trump is (and it only boosts Nancy's credibility). Now, we need to complete the cycle by showing how awful Mitch is and getting that narrative to stick.

by Anonymousreply 555January 23, 2019 6:05 PM

R553 I'm not a troll you idiot. Obviously if the testimony is postponed, Trump is getting what he wanted. How is Cohen temporarily canceling a good thing? This will allow the assholes on Fox to spin that "Cohen decided not to lie about Trump to please Democrats" or some shit like that. You have no idea how damaging Cohen's testimony might be to Trump so the delaying of it is annoying

by Anonymousreply 556January 23, 2019 6:05 PM

It really is funny that Rethugs can and will continue to bitch that Nancy won't allow a vote...

They hypocrisy is staggering.

by Anonymousreply 557January 23, 2019 6:06 PM

He's worried for his father in law, who probably has some stuff to hide.

I think Trump was particularly scared of this, and so stretched himself a bit and put out the threats.

The bullying... the both siders are going to spin it at "genius no-holds-barred political battle". You know the Times will be on board.

by Anonymousreply 558January 23, 2019 6:06 PM

I don't think Trump's attempted bullying of Democrats will work thankfully (they better fucking not give in to the wall shit) but obviously it has worked for now against Cohen

by Anonymousreply 559January 23, 2019 6:07 PM

Maybe Cohen's hot son was worried for his grandfather.

by Anonymousreply 560January 23, 2019 6:07 PM

Could this be obstruction? Witness tampering?

by Anonymousreply 561January 23, 2019 6:08 PM

Define "worked," It's witness tampering and obstruction of justice. It just adds more to the list of things to throw his ass in prison for.

by Anonymousreply 562January 23, 2019 6:09 PM

Michael Cohen knows better than anyone the lengths Trump will go to get his way, so he fear may be well founded.

by Anonymousreply 563January 23, 2019 6:09 PM

He might actually have something over Cohen's father-in-law. Some knowledge of previously undiscovered wrongdoing perhaps? Whatever it is, he is threatening private citizens right out in public. How is that not an impeachable offense? It's blatant witness tampering/intimidation.

I want to see Cohen's hot son again.

by Anonymousreply 566January 23, 2019 6:14 PM

[quote]Michael Cohen knows better than anyone the lengths Trump will go to get his way, so he fear may be well founded.

That's the problem. Has Trump actually threatened him? Or does Cohen feel threatened because he knows the tactics and doesn't want to be approached by someone in a parking lot who's been given a brief case full of cash?

by Anonymousreply 567January 23, 2019 6:14 PM

Malcolm Nance:

by Anonymousreply 568January 23, 2019 6:16 PM

R556, I've been watching this whole ordeal and know full well how damaging the testimony could be. His threats are working on Cohen's testimony in front of Congress but not on the truth. Cohen knows how this looks. Trump just hung his ass out again for witness tampering.

Go back to 2002 and before and look at Delaware's role with the predatory credit card industry and banking. They hosted it and and defined regulations. Joe Biden was a primary figure in this set-up, particularly getting related bills through the Senate.

From 2015, Biden's association and bidding for the predatory credit card industry:

Remember the very short window to pay your credit card bill to avoid exhuberant late and finance fees? Biden was a part of it. Recall payments being channeled through Delaware?

IMO Joe Biden would be *able* to beat a Trump campaign but he's far too much of an after-one-term boring and compromised opposition.

I think if the Democrats set him up, he's neigh being set up to fail.

Biden is much like Janet Jackson, no? Give him a third try and he'll definitely get in there this time!!!

R589, Hope that poll is reliable because Trump hitting the low 30's is exactly where we need him to be. When George W. Bush was at his lowest point he dropped to 22% but he ended at 28%. I want Trump down to 30 or below. This shutdown has helped enormously. Federal workers who might have once supported him have drifted away. I know one damned thing if my mother were married to a Trump supporting federal worker who was about to miss his second paycheck, she'd be all over my father like a Grizzly Bear.

A Trump supporting Federal worker = moron.

Just who is left of the base, anyway? He's losing more and more of the uneducated white people, the elites have never really accepted him ...
