So back to the topic of his ex wife Shan'ann, why was she drinking whilst pregnant? Why did she start taking some medication that would make her even more ill while pregnant (?!), despite how most women when they are pregnant don't like feeling ill but just know it is part of being pregnant, and why did she want to have yet a 3rd deformed-as this was a possible side effect of the medication- child since her two daughters have some slight foetal alcohol syndrome?

With all addicts, it is about keeping secrets, about childhood trauma and about anxiety. Shanann was soooo obsessed about appearances. Even her husband thought she was making 2 to 3 times as much as she was.

The booze was undoubtedly a coping mechanism.

Zofran makes you very constipated, Shanann was complaining about not shitting for 2 weeks but seemed to have no idea that her medication was causing it. Maybe the only doctor that would give her the diagnoses she wanted wasn't very smart about prescribing meds, there is always a downside to doctor shopping. She also seemed to think all that caffeine and ephedra in Thrive was okay to take, I think she had a shitty doctor telling her what she wanted to hear.

I thought this was supposed to be top secret, for his safety. Only Shanann's family were informed of his transfer and his family would not be informed till after he was safely situated.

Plunder had a guard's body cam footage within a few hours of his arrival. WTF?

I don't believe that first clip is from New Jersey - I believe it was his intake in Colorado - I don't think they transfer prisoners in shorts and flip flops in December! But... he is HOT! A hot monster, but HOT!

I had to take Zofran. I was allergic to compazine. It gave me horrible side effects, such as dyskensia tardive, as did reglan. So zofran, it was.

I remember that it was very expensive, even with top tier insurance from Aetna. My doctor had to put a special request in through Aetna, in order for me to receive it, and have it covered. It was something like $400/30. The request was approved, due to my previous reactions to the other medications. I was taken to the ER each time I started the other two.

So yes, if you have horrible morning sickness, or need it for other reasons, like I temporarily did, they will prescribe and approve Zofran.

Fortunately, I was able to get my IBS under control, but it took months to do so.

Still trying to figure out why a doctor would prescribe that to her. Usually morning sickness subsides by the 16th week. Of course, there’s a small percentage of women who are nauseous the entire time. I know a few. Those women don’t have more than one child.

R20, yes, I did take it for IBS. I was vomiting uncontrollably. And it started suddenly, without any other symptoms. I thought had food poisoning or the Norovirus. After about a week, I went to the ER at Cedars. They hooked me up to a drip, gave me a scrip for Compazine, and sent me home. 24 hours later I was back in the ER because of the side effects. They proceeded to prescribe Reglan, and a few days later, back in ER, which is when they prescribed Zofran, and my GP has to call in a scrip exception via Aetna.

After going through several months of diagnostics, they determined it was IBS. I’d never had any intestinal issues beforehand.

The only thing that I had changed before the symptoms began (severe nausea, severe headaches, vomiting, diarrhea) was that I had quit smoking and drinking coffee, cold turkey.

My GP eventually concluded that my body went into very rare nicotine/caffeine withdrawals, and that my intestinal tract and esophagus had become so accustomed to frequent vomiting, that it couldn’t stop once it went down that road. Much like bulimics.

It was absolutely miserable, because even when I wasn’t vomiting, I still experienced nausea and headaches. My stomach looked like I was pregnant, due to horrible gas. It was fucking awful.

I have no way of determining whether or not Shan’ann had lupus, but during the time that I was experiencing all of this, they ran tests for several autoimmune disorders, because they couldn’t figure out what was wrong, and people with autoimmune disorders reacted to Compazine and Reglan the way I did.

Btw, my mother’s sister (my aunt), has lupus. She has never gotten a butterfly rash, and she did not start experiencing any big problems until after her 40s. She does get rashes on her chest, arms, and thighs, and she loses patches of hair. She has also developed arthritic symptoms in the last decade or so.

I’ve read that lupus can disguise itself as a bunch of small symptoms throughout one’s life, and that separately, the symptoms seem like weird irregularities. Then boom, it goes full speed ahead after a certain age, or during/after a pregnancy.

Chris Watts himself had no idea what Shanann Watts was earning. He estimated it to be approximately $60K/year, because she had 200 people under her. However, their latest tax returns listed their combine annual income being $90K, 2/3 of which was his Anadarko salary. They had debits cards from a shared account, but had separate credit cards (which I do not understand); he had no access to their shared bank accounts because he didn't know the password.

Cops commented that the entire house was neat and orderly, with the exception of Shanann's office, which was a mess. I'd say that reflects the reality of their lives.

The saddest irony? Cops have released screen shots of phone texts from co-workers of Chris Watts at Anadarko, in which people are making snarky comments about Nichol Kessinger. Their comments were of the "I knew it! They were always together!" kind, but also, "Jesus, she's a bitch! Blows her stack over trivial crap". Chris Watts was apparently attracted to controlling bitches, and no matter what happened, he would have been a miserable bastard.

The biggest lesson is: be careful who you marry and start a family with. He’ll, no one’s perfect. But if you are a spend thrift, don’t marry a materialistic person. If you love traveling, don’t marry someone who is terrified of planes.

Shanann also posted a video for making something called "thrive bites". Chris and Bella were helping her. They had chocolate chips, flax seeds, the thrive shake mix she was always hawking, honey, peanut butter, walnuts and/or peanuts, and vanilla extract. She kept those around in the house as snacks to "thrive" on.

She said the kids loved 'em. Cindy Watts got robbed. at 6:43 in this video, you can see her dump a shitload of peanut butter in there.

Chris would have been better off going to trial, I think he was pressured into making a confession for killing them all because he feared the death penalty. But had he been found guilty and sentenced to death, it is extremely unlikely he would actually be put to death and would have had it easier on death row than in with the general population of prisoners.

In reality, there was very little evidence (if any) beyond circumstantial that he killed the girls because the evidence pointed to them not being killed earlier, but closer to the time Shanann died. And despite what people are trying to say about alcohol concentration being due to natural decomposition, it isn't that common and the girls did not have the same findings. He was still going away for life, but at least we would have had some questions answered that we will now never know, like financials and medical records.

Shanann was never going to give Chris a divorce, and Chris didn't have the balls to stand up to her. It's sad what happened, but Shanann was living in a fantasy world where Thrive taught her "fake it till you make it" which was all an unsustainable lie. If he killed the girls first, I think that’s how it all went down. No one heard anyone screaming, and this is why I think that he killed them all, or at least Shan’ann, in the basement.

Also, not sure if anyone can answer this: So on the Monday, Nickole was supposed to watch the girls while Shanann had a doctor appointment. But that was also supposed to be their first day of school.

R102 and r103, I think had a better-paying job at the Ford dealership when they first arrived in CO. Shanann did “online sales” at the same dealership. Then all of a sudden he was working in the oil industry and she was working at the children’s hospital call center.

But yeah, I don’t know how they afforded any of it. She sold the NC house and maybe had some profit/left over to relocate to CO. But they also lived with their friends (Jeanna Dietz the nurse) for a year before they purchased.

Side note: I think it’s so weird for married couples to do this. I don’t have friends good enough that I’d let them live with our family for a year while they got jobs and house-hunted. I've watched most of the search videos, the interviews of Chis at the police department and the polygraph videos.

The thing that really sticks out is how shockingly dumb Chris is... the guy has got to have a low-IQ ....and he's very childlike.

Shanann's friend Nicole is really the hero in all of this. Her call to the police for a welfare check of Shanann really threw Chris' plans for a loop. He had no time to properly stage the house: sheets were missing on Shanann's bed. Why would she leave and take her sheets? All of her shoes where there (Nicole knew what Shannan wore). So why would she leave without wearing shoes? Her hand bag with her medicine and her cell phone were there. The only explanation would be an abduction.... but the neighbor's security cam only showed Chris leaving the house.

Nicole immediately suspected Chris and the cops, right from the beginning, could see by his behavior and his answers to their questions that his story wasn't adding up.

Watch Chris practically shitting his pants while he's watching the neighbor's security cam video. He looks so guilty it's almost comic.

And when Chris leaves, the neighbor immediately says to the cops: "He's not acting right"

Oh and one other thing... idiot Chris' company truck had a gps system that recorded his moves. So they were able to see where he went that morning. And when the cops went out there...what did they find? A sheet that match the sheets on Shannon's bed.

However, I do want to point something out: Lupus is an autoimmune disorder.

"She's at a monthlong spa retreat, and they have a nursery, so she went off the grid to recharge." "She met a new guy, and she's going to live in Hawaii with him. I told her she can take the kids; they're better off with her. She doesn't get good phone reception, so she's not going to post to Facebook anymore. She asked me to tell you all to try not to contact her." He did a lot more planning than Chris Watts did beforehand, sending fake threats to his family for a while before the murders, but still got caught.

Here’s the thing: a person with normal thought processes finds themselves in an unhappy marriage. They weigh out the pros and cons of a divorce. They find that a divorce will make them take a huge hit, financially, socially, the health of the children could be at risk, etc.

So either this normal person with normal thought processes, either decides to stay in the marriage, and try to make it work, or they decide to take the hits.

Chris obviously didn’t have this line of thinking. He chose option #3: kill all of them. That’s not normal.

Imagine coming to terms with the enormity of such a decision.

I believe it will take Chris months to years in order for him to understand why he did this. I honestly believe he doesn’t have a genuine answer, because we, as normal people, automatically ascribe his decisions to his desire to start a new life with his mistress. And even though that might be part of it all, and probably is part of it, he could have attempted to bring that to fruition, by going through a divorce.

There are other factors involved here, that we cannot wrap our heads around, because regardless of how unhappy he may have been, murdering his family was clearly not the most optimal option.

I believe Chris is extremely immature in his reckoning of his actions. He is probably in shock that he was capable of such an atrocity, and I do not believe that he is presently capable of understanding what he did, or why.

They were two very dysfunctional people, I think both were narcissistic, Shanann more outwardly so. Chris never grew up.

He lived with an overbearing mother, and a father who was passive. His home with his family of origin is where he learned to participate in dysfunctional behaviors. This is quite normal, and we all learn how to function in relationships this way, good, and/or bad.

Then he went on to live with roommates. Then he met, and married Shan’ann, who was there to further extend his role as a child in his family of origin.

Chris never had an opportunity to become independent. He never learned to tough it out, on his own. He (not mistakenly, or surprisingly), got together with a domineering woman. She handled all of the finances, purchases, vacation plans, school for the kids, medical appointments, where they lived. She even had to encourage him to go out with the boys (the other henpecked, THRIVE husbands).

These gender roles are actually more common than we know, but being a “frau”, as you all say, as do I, I see this often with my married friends.

Most men are OK with this sort of set up. They come home from work, and all things are taken care of for them.

Personally, I am not into this sort of thing. I really enjoy taking care of the man in my life, when I have one, however, I personally prefer a highly independent individual. But lots of women don’t. They believe that he goes to work, and she does the rest.

As a result, Chris was not able to properly decipher or discern his feelings of a desire for autonomy. He was so scared of these feelings, and ashamed of them, that he even had to seek out a relationship outside of the one with his wife, in order to have a worthy cause as to why he wanted to grow up, and mature.

Chris was so emotionally infantilized, that he did not recognize or identify his feelings and desires for autonomy, appropriately. He didn’t understand that what he was searching for was autonomy and equanimity within all of his relationships, starting with his family of origin, all the way up to his own family, who he had created with Shan’ann. His ability to annihilate them all so easily, probably had to do with him not ever perceiving them as HIS own family, rather HER family.

Chris never had the emotional tools required to sort through this stuff, and Shan’ann was so myopic in very “vision” of what “family” meant to her, that she wanted to control that narrative for him, and for her children. It wasn’t done out of malice. She too, didn’t know anything different. I also believe that whatever fucked up shit she may have engaged in, in the past, she was trying to become a better person. She was trying to fix it all, but she started from the outside-in, rather than the inside-out. Their dire financial straits are evidence of this.

These two needed lots of therapy, individually, and eventually together, regardless of the marital outcome.

It’s too bad that once it got to the point where this became quite clear, it was just too late.

This is why I think it’s not a bad idea to marry later in life. If you really want kids, then sure, go at it earlier, but if you don’t, or you already have them, marrying in your 40s or 50s, to a partner in your age group, isn’t a bad idea, at all. By then, most of us have worked through a lot of our issues, and are better people, and in turn, partners, as a result.

DL is not ever saying "She deserved to die, the two little kids deserved to die." So yes, if you go around saying supremely stupid shit like "She and those kids didn't deserve to die", then yeah, you ARE being a troll and probably a frau. You are stating the obvious, over and over again, and it IS triggering because of the annoying inanity of it all. So FFS, knock it off already!

The statements commenting on Shanann's obvious personality flaws are clearly meant to try to understand their contribution to the state of mind of a man who spent years being submissive and docile. I think Shan’ann was very lonely. A lot of stay at home moms are. They’re at home, raising kids. Kids are kids. An adult isn’t going to relate to them as adults. These stay at home moms have no one to talk to. The advent of social media has given a lot of these women a way to connect with others, and has become a vehicle of expression. Look at the accounts of other Frauen on SM. They all do the same shit. Post videos and photos of their kids, themselves, their hobbies, their gym routines, makeup routines.

None of us give a shit about this stuff, really. However, we often find ourselves watching this shit, out of curiosity, and habit.

Shan’ann was trying to lead a fulfilling life, yet from the view of the objective observer, she wasn’t reaching that goals. But perhaps in her mind, she was.

We are all capable of telling ourselves that we are happy, for a number of reasons. We can also convince ourselves that we’re unhappy, for a number of reasons.

We look to Shan’ann, and her perceived faults, in order to attempt to make sense as to why Chris did this. But we have to remember, that the actual answer to that question lies within Chris, and he very likely cannot articulate why, either.

I think there's a distinction between a horrible person and a person who did a horrible thing. Unless there is a load of stuff we don't know about him he's not in the Ted Bundy league.

I agree he probably has disordered thinking and comes from a background of poor family dynamics. The scariest thing is that a lot of people are like that and in the right pressure cooker environment more people than we like to think are capable of doing heinous things.

This case is exactly as fascinating as it is because of all the access to the raw data ---- the interviews, the amazing amount of SM advertising SW did, the forensics. She was OCD, hypochondriacal at best (and munchausens at worst), self-admittedly bitchy, pathologically controlling and so arrogant as to not only not commit to change and atonement, but to be PROUD of these characteristics, as though they were qualities that would ultimately lead her to her rightful position at the top ----- of the business world and of society.

You CAN be nuts, and horrible ---- AND have toddlers that appear to be healthy and cared for, and you can have superficial friends who knew nothing at all about one's character or personality or psychopathology. It leads the average person to wonder, "How often does this happen? Do I know a Shannon Watts, with a hen-pecked, dominated and maybe even tortured husband about to snap?" And it also leads to questions of how these children were developing. Would they have been psychologically damaged as teens and adults? I can't remember all the details, but remember her saying the Watts often couldn't afford enough for groceries. It came from the first document dump.

I think that's why she had her family, and then her friends always staying with them for months at a time. They had a massive house but couldn't afford to pay for groceries and other small items. Chris was an idiot to let Shanann do their finances, she was terrible at it and after the first bankruptcy you would think they would have taken some financial management courses so they wouldn't fall back into the same trap again. It's a mystery to me why they wouldn't since that is typically offered to people going through bankruptcy.

The interview Shannann's brother Frankie did has been released. He told the cops he has the same neck problems as his sister. He also has been depressed for the last few years. FRankie said he was taking care of Shannann all night because Chris wasn't. He said she was vomiting and was very ill and he asked her if there was anything she could take and she said NO. Why didn't she take the anti-nausea med? Was she allowing herself to suffer to get some attention from Chris? It didn't seem to work. I don't see him risking it if she came home and needed to see the girls, she would have called 911 immediately. There was zero struggle, except for a little with Bella who likely woke up as he was smothering her.

The text messages are in one of the document dumps. I find it interesting that there are reports out there, stating that the text messages were deleted, and not recoverable. However, according to the report that precludes the document dump in which the recovered texts are shown, it states that the mistress have the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, two cell phones, in which they were able to recover most, of not all, of the recovered text messages. They were also able to recover all the text messages from Chris’ phones.

Both of them also communicated via devices that belonged to Anadarko, and the contractor that Nichol worked for, on site. Those emails and texts, as well as call logs, were all recovered via the cooperation of both Anadarko, and the contractor that Nichol was employed by.

There weren’t any nude photos in the document dump, and honestly, their text messages were actually pretty tame. If one didn’t know that they were having an affair, it reads like to good friends, shooting the shit.

The cards and notes that Chris gave Nichol are also in the document dumps, and those are the items that have more explicit content which is written by Chris.

I was just reading an old article about the Watts family bankruptcy. I remain convinced the case is all about money. First, last and always.

In the bankruptcy filing, it was clear that AFTER the kids were born, they changed the title of the house to a co-ownership between Chris and Shanann, but only his name remained on the mortgage. So she lied about that to her "friends" when talking about the possible divorce coming out of left field (she fretted that the house was only in his name). I wonder if that didn't provide the main part of the motive. He would be on the hook for the mortgage payments, but if they sold the house, she'd get half. She might have been able to do that anyway, but she had no incentive to sell the house and could have just stalled and stalled, forcing him to remain house-poor.

Not really sure what the implications of all this are, but this sounds scary from Chris' point of view.

The truth of the matter is that she suspected they were heading for divorce at about the time she conceived the third pregnancy ----- and in fact, the trip to NC appeared to be a scouting trip to determine whether she could keep the thrive business going. CW said the last time they had sex was probably when she conceived for the last time. She never discussed money with any of these friends, openly stating she steered conversations away from money. The friends did not know how severe the financial issues were, or that there had been a bankruptcy recently (less than 3 years ago), or that the pre-school was going to cripple them. They were also not aware of the "not being able to afford groceries" issue, or that that was one of the benefits to having long-term houseguests.

She shared that she suspected Chris was having an affair but made it seem as though she had JUST discovered this even as a possibility, when in fact, she had been thinking there were extra-curricular activities for months. She thought the weight loss was tied to it. She made jokes about his not having any game, but she knew that his having lost interest in her suggested another woman. Her diatribe by text message made all of that clear (the one following her eruption at his mother).

None of her friends knew about the tire king back in NC, or the shady circumstances surrounding her being able to build the pre-Chris Watts house, and in fact, most of her friends were not aware of her first marriage. So yes, she told them oddly intimate things ("I am going to go masturbate to relieve stress"), but she did not come clean as to the real issues in her life or in her past.

Which brings me to a couple of issues that are still bugging me.

Chris was earning not quite $60K/year. Even with 2 kids, they were probably taking home about $4k/month (maybe a little less given they were borrowing against his pension to pay back mortgage payments). AT most she was making $2K/month from LeVel. She herself said she was getting $1400/month to pay her car payment with, and anything beyond the $400 carpayment was hers to do with as she wished. So mortgage payment was $2800/month. So out of $6K/month, $3400 was automatically already spent. Leaving about $2500/month to pay for every other thing, including: clothes, food, gas, utilities, phones, internet, Thrive bullshit, PRE-SCHOOL, entertainment, cable..... Pre-School alone was $23,000/year, or a little less than $2K/month. There is NO WAY they were breaking even.

Their credit cards were maxed out. They had no credit line on their house. They did have equity in the house from appreciation alone, but there was no liquidity there.

Where was the money coming from? They were spending a LOT more than they were earning. Both sets of parents were as bad off as they were, so no help from parental units.

R596, from what I understand, by reading the document dumps, this was to be their first year. The wife of the bald neighbor was a director at the school, so I’m assuming that Shan’ann got the Primrose prayer from the neighbor, and made a video and posted it.

According to Shan’ann’s friends, she had campaigned very diligently into getting both girls into Primrose, so the video may have been parodied that campaign effort.

I could be completely wrong. I read procedural documents very quickly, and basically scan them, unless I’m looking for a specific detail. But I searched for any specific detail that I was interested in, via my browser’s search bar.

The document dump doesn't tell the whole story. SW's social media is key in this case. Plus, she wrote CW's social media praising Thrive and her as a wonderful wife. It's one of the reasons he deleted his FB.
