If a man tells me he no longer loves me, I don’t know that I’d insist on proving him wrong. The kids and one on the way might definitely send me into a huge depression, but I’m not one to attempt to convince a man that he is wrong regarding his feelings.

I believe that the problem here, was that Chris is a very poor communicator. Had he perhaps told Shan’ann, “Yes, I met someone else, and it’s over, we are done”, she might have been brought to reality. But I doubt that. She’s the type of person to “fight” for her marriage. And though I believe that is appropriate with a person who is still in love with you, yet cheated, or did whatever, it doesn’t really work when your partner says they no longer love you.

In the end, he beared equal responsibility in telling her his side of things. Had he fought for 50/50 custody, Shan’ann would have had to find consistent employment, and shared financial responsibility with Chris. Neither of them were wealthy, so the custodial arrangements would have been evenly split, along with the finances. He might have owed her a small amount of spousal support, but not anything over the top, nor for that long of a length of time.

This man is just a fucking idiot. I’m still pretty overcome with just how profoundly stupid and ignorant he was about solving his dilemma, which he could have done, by taking steps to file for a divorce while she was gone.

Every time he got his hour out of his room they would put black trash bags over his window so we couldn't see him. Walking around and going to his professional visits.. It's okay to not have grown up in a huge spacious home. It could be a three bedroom starter home by today's standards. The location and property taxes are what is indicative. Is it set back from the street? A busy heavily trafficked road or tucked away in a cul de sac? How close are the neighboring houses? There's your resale value. A good school district and a cul de sac is highly valued by families with children for obvious reasons. Is it near the water?

Did your parents pay for music lessons? Did they send you to martial arts, gymnastics or riding lessons? What kind of vacations did they splurge on? Did they pay for their children's college education free and clear? Did mom amass a treasure trove of fine jewelry? Did they buy their children decent cars? Did they belong to a yacht or country club?

A rube is not going to take these things into account when assessing someone's social standing and background. All they see is a big McMansion with lots of space and judge according to that. They're not going to know the difference between a modest ranch home one block from the water in Port Washington with sky high taxes and oak flooring or a huge contemporary McMansion without trees set out in bumfuck Pennsylvania.
