Will he be the Democratic nominee for President?

If not, who'll win the nomination?

If nominated, will he defeat Cheeto?

If not, why? Cheating? A stunt? A particular issue that inflames Depolorables?

R2, I thought that was well-known. A real estate guy, right? I mean, that's doesn't really have much to do with Beto ... yet.

by Anonymousreply 3November 28, 2018 5:13 PM

Yeah two full years of Trump calling him a loser daily. And he did lose, to the most hated man in the Senate.

by Anonymousreply 4November 28, 2018 5:14 PM

He brings us back to that comfortable time when politics was optimistic. When we were competent. When America seemed to again represent the best of what was possible.

But that ability to feel familiarly inspiring is itself a privilege reserved for men. After all, we still have never had a female president of the United States. While Hillary Clinton motivated many, Americans have yet to experience the familiarity of a female president. There's no mold, then, for bright, charismatic female candidates to fit into, no space for them to gain an advantage via "she reminds me of...".

We still understand executive power as male, and so we continue to look to men to occupy it. Perhaps we aren't looking to the newly elected class of House women, which includes -- mark my words -- future party superstars like Ayanna Pressley, because they're fairly green. Fair enough -- experience and a long dedication to public service should matter (even if it didn't with the current President).

He needs at least one issue to channel Americans' anger that's separate from Trump — to show he has fire in his belly. I think a new round of "trust-busting"/breaking up corporate oligopolies would be great. There's more buzz about how industry's consolidated way too much.

by Anonymousreply 22November 28, 2018 6:17 PM

Authenticity, or the perception of it, is one of the most important traits a candidate needs right now to win the Presidency. Beto has that in spades. He'll win the Democratic nomination and be our President in 2020 if he decides to run.

by Anonymousreply 23November 28, 2018 6:30 PM

Beto's positions are too far left (banning ICE), so he could never win the Presidency.

R2 Forbes discounted that story. Sanders is a self-made real estate tycoon and investor. He retired a couple of years ago. My son was diagnosed as a preschooler with PDD-NOS. He could have gone either way, but a high IQ, good teachers, tenacious parents, and, undoubtedly, dumb luck, and he is no longer on the spectrum (or so say the formal tests).

He has strong interests, a quirky sense of humor, and an affection for math. He benefits from social coaching, but not in a way that stands out as extreme. Nonetheless, because of his history, we've been turned down by elite private schools and some camps because they claim they are "just not equipped to deal with this".

This, despite assurances from current teachers and doctors that there is nothing to "deal" with. Now we keep our mouths shut. It has never once come back to bite us.

We learned the hard way that the overwhelming majority of people (even those working in education) do not possess a nuanced understanding of what autism is. When those people land positions of authority, they can do real damage.

Temple Grandin, in "The Autistic Brain", says that she believes 50% of people employed at Silicon Valley tech companies are on the spectrum, but they avoid the label for fear of being "ghettoized".

Early labels are absolutely critical in order to access the carefully tailored instruction these children need prior or age 5, but older kids and adults who are borderline or "recovered" need to consider the risks of disclosure carefully

I don't think most progressives would vote for Trump over Beto because of Beto's Israel stance. Maybe they'll vote third party instead.

It reminds me of this mormonic independent (at the beginning of the video) who asked a question about Muslim immigration at the second 2016 presidential debate: Like the better of the two on the issue wasn't crystal clear.

Go ahead and stay home or vote third party because you're skeptical of a Democrat's position re Islam, Israel, etc. Go right ahead and see what it gets you.

Those polls are close because they are predetermined. Otherwise Beto would lead by a larger margin. For example, the company doing the survey feeds people a list of possible candidates their staff picked already. People from Western states are still underrepresented in the poll, otherwise Beto and Kamala would be one and two. Garretti, Swalwell, and other Westerners would have appeared on their list.

BE a try-hard, when it comes to running for president. We've had suggestions that the Wisconsin, etc. losses in 2016 were because HRC uncharacteristically wasn't being enough of a try-hard.

If he wants to win, if he really wants to help the country, he'll actually try hard to win. That means going to Iowa soon, or at least calling back the Democratic party and replying to their invitation with at least a "I'm honored, I'm taking some time right now to decide, I absolutely will give a firm reply soon."

Wikipedia page re Russian Reset at link.

Oh gross I accidentally clicked on a Sputnik News link when searching for articles about Beto's Ukraine vote(s)... Here's the Post from 2014. I just became aware of this earlier this week from DL. Hope he takes a firmer line, now that he's seen that Russia is basically at war with American democracy.

He looks like he could fit a basketball in his mouth. Just such a weird looking guy.

by Anonymousreply 133January 10, 2019 1:52 PM

People are attacking HIS looks?! Really?

Minus the facial hair, given his looks, charisma, and coolness, I'd give him a solid 8.5-9. He's fucking hot.

I fucking love his teeth.

Even his mugshot was super hot.

One thing I don't like is that he said to Ellen, "You are love." Yeah, right. Either he doesn't know the deal w/ Ellen or he's just going with it.

R136, did you model, or are you currently a model? Just wondering if you're surrounded by crazy gorgeous men all the time. If you are, I'm envious!

by Anonymousreply 137January 10, 2019 3:17 PM

Beto running ahead of Biden and Harris in Daily Kos' first straw poll. Warren leading because she is the first to announce. For Beto to be ahead of Biden and Harris, who both have bigger name recognition, is significant.

The fact that Bernie is in 4th place with the hardcore Democratic base is bad news for his campaign. Everybody knows who he is and what he stands for, and yet they prefer other candidates. He's bleeding supporters to Beto and Warren.

Harris would make a far better President than him.

by Anonymousreply 143January 11, 2019 7:37 PM

That dental cleaning thing was cringeworthy. I hope he shapes up. The facial hair, etc.

It may be that he's putting himself in a kind of liminal state, e.g., driving across the country alone, to tap into inner wisdom to decide whether to run. Thus the careless behavior.

by Anonymousreply 144January 11, 2019 7:40 PM

We don’t need a hippie for President.

by Anonymousreply 145January 11, 2019 8:10 PM

Bernie's popularity was always artificially pushed by Russian bots. He never was going to be president, nor do I think he wanted to. His job was to weaken Hillary Clinton and I am sure he was aware of this.

Kamala Harris? blah Elizabeth Warren? too old Booker? not exciting and he needs a wife Castro? God no! Gillibrand? NO WAY! Biden? too much baggage and too old Bernie? No, he fucked things up enough last time.

Come on Beto....run.

Tulsi Gabbard? God help us if she's anywhere on the ticket.

And has that fascist loony tunes father of hers croaked yet?

by Anonymousreply 154January 12, 2019 12:03 AM

Gabbard is a homophobic nutjob who veres between the alt-left and the alt-right.

But I'm looking forward to the vetting. I want to know everything.

by Anonymousreply 157February 6, 2019 2:33 PM

He's too sexy to be president. I said this about Avenatti and I was right, he dropped out. It will happen with Beto. Guaranteed

by Anonymousreply 158February 6, 2019 2:57 PM

Totally want his dick. Pretty sure he's uncut.

by Anonymousreply 159February 6, 2019 3:06 PM

Harris/O'Rourke

Has a nice ring to it, and it would be the best way to mobilize the minority voters who voted for Obama but couldn't get it up for Hillary.

by Anonymousreply 160February 6, 2019 3:08 PM

Trump will devour him.

Good God. These democratic candidates are the weakest pool in history. None are serious contenders.

The fake Mexican "Beto," Camel-toe Harris, wild-eyed Cortez, glum and old Bernie, someone named Tulsi.

It will be fun to watch, anyway.

by Anonymousreply 161February 6, 2019 3:10 PM

Why not run a stray cat, same chance.

Actually, a stray cat would get more votes than these weiners!

by Anonymousreply 162February 6, 2019 3:12 PM

No one wants him as president. People just want his cock and don't know the difference.

by Anonymousreply 163February 6, 2019 3:14 PM

R161 if he is so unthreatening, why are you so worried, Boris?

I want to see Beto standing next to Trump on a debate stage, towering over him, waving his gigantic hands in the air, talking to Trump like the dementia-laden old geezer he is.

by Anonymousreply 164February 6, 2019 3:15 PM

Trump and Hillary seem like the adults, and these candidates act like teenagers.

by Anonymousreply 165February 6, 2019 3:17 PM

Go ahead and run Chelsea Clinton, she's more mature than these weiners and a lot smarter, too.

by Anonymousreply 166February 6, 2019 3:19 PM

R161/R162/R165/R166, why are you so triggered?

Do you like anyone? Trump? Bernie?

by Anonymousreply 167February 6, 2019 3:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 168February 6, 2019 3:24 PM

R168 Oh most definitely, I was including myself in people who want his cock. I just don't think anyone has made an affirmative case for him besides that

by Anonymousreply 169February 6, 2019 3:26 PM

R165 Trump is an adult? He's a 5th grader.

by Anonymousreply 170February 6, 2019 3:31 PM

I'm not very trusting of any self-proclaimed Democrat who bashes ALL the D contenders.

If you do that, you're either A) A repig posing as a Democrat to be a divisive troll or B) a clueless sheep who lets conservatives control the narrative so you'll vote 3rd party or stay home.

If you're A, fuck off. If you're B, you need to get your shit together and vote for the candidate who can beat Trump. No one is going to pass your damned purity tests.

I personally can't stand Bernie or Gillibrand, for instance. But if for any reason they are the Democratic candidate, I will vote for them in the general.

Unless Dems learn to do this, we'll get Trump for another four years.

by Anonymousreply 171February 6, 2019 3:35 PM

Chris Wilson, Cruz's pollster, was interviewed on Stephanie Ruhle. Every day during the Senate campaign, he trashed Beto non-stop. He was asked about the possibility of Beto entering the race and he said anybody underestimating Beto's crazy. Beto put together the most dynamic campaign the country has ever seen. He said if Beto replicates that in the early primary states, he's the candidate and Trump should be worried sick.

I think he and Biden have waited too long to announce if they are going to. If they jump in now, it looks like they are jumping in to save the Democrats from all these non-white and/or non-male candidates that have already announced. If they really had the heart to run, they should have announced already. They look bad now.

by Anonymousreply 181February 6, 2019 11:41 PM

Jeez Louise. Lemme guess - he's out on the road, trying to discover the "Real American" by talking to "Real Americans", and eating in diners. Then he will come back and make speeches about how Real Americans inspired him, so now he should be President. I'm sorry, but this is about as insipid as politics gets.

Custom made for NPR profiles, I will admit though.

by Anonymousreply 182February 6, 2019 11:42 PM

I'd rather he run for Cornyn's seat in 2020.

by Anonymousreply 183February 6, 2019 11:51 PM

Beto defintely has a type. His ex girlfriend Sasha looks a lot like his wife.

by Anonymousreply 184February 7, 2019 1:11 AM

r181, Get real. It's only February 2019, no primaries will even take place for another year, there's plenty of time for Beto or Biden to join the race.

by Anonymousreply 185February 7, 2019 1:46 AM

R185, I'm talking about perceptions and visuals, which seem to be all that matter in this country anymore because that's what the news media pays endless attention to. We've had a ton of extremely competent women and minorities already announce. For three white men to just lollygag around while those who already announced go out and do the hard work of meeting the people in the early states and building their base support and organizations and then just jump in like shining white, male saviors is bad optics. What have they been waiting for? Are Biden, Beto, and Bernie all going to announce at the same time?

And, the first debate is in June.

by Anonymousreply 186February 7, 2019 5:44 AM

This June, r186?

by Anonymousreply 187February 7, 2019 5:49 AM

Dems are always looking for a Saviour, not a Leader.

by Anonymousreply 188February 7, 2019 5:54 AM

I don't know about the others (and I couldn't care less about Bernie), but Beto has said he will announce his decision whether he will run or not by the end of February; not that far off.

by Anonymousreply 189February 7, 2019 12:19 PM

Sorry, but your point just isn't there. We are still beginning this process r186, plenty of more people are announcing.

If they waited til like May to announce I guess I could see your point. But we are still in fucking February. It's super, super early.

by Anonymousreply 190February 7, 2019 12:22 PM

right r190, Bill Clinton didn't announce his candidacy until October 1991; mere months before the primaries began, and he still managed to win the whole thing. Now October is unusually late, I don't expect any of the remaining candidates to wait that long; but there's nothing wrong with them announcing in the next few months.

by Anonymousreply 191February 7, 2019 12:27 PM

For the 2016 cycle, Hillary announced in April.

by Anonymousreply 192February 7, 2019 12:45 PM

The longer these candidates are in the race, the faster we're going to get sick of them chasing publicity. I'm already fed up with boring Julian Castro who appears to be the Democrats' version of Ben Carson.

by Anonymousreply 193February 7, 2019 3:23 PM

R184 can you post exhibits for our inspection ?

by Anonymousreply 194February 7, 2019 9:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 201February 9, 2019 9:52 PM

What's with all the stupid names among Democrat Presidential hopefuls.

Beto? Buttagreig?- or whoever.

Ridiculous!

by Anonymousreply 202February 9, 2019 9:57 PM

I was talking in general, R201. Every election the media and endless numbers of idiots go on and on about how the Democrats are "Hollywood" or "Hollyweird" and so out of touch with real America because of all the celebrities and money coming from there. Meanwhile, the Repug Party is a fully owned subsidiary of about six billionaires and Wall Street and the country pays the price for it with every piece of bought legislation that directly benefits those people.

I can't even think of one piece of legislation that the Dems handed out to help Hollywood. In fact, supporting Dems financially hurts the rich celebrities. It's why I respect the rich people who support Democrats. They are doing it against their own financial interests. The Repugs and their rich supporters are nothing but selfish fuckers.

by Anonymousreply 207February 10, 2019 1:47 AM

r202, Kamala?

by Anonymousreply 208February 10, 2019 2:40 AM

He is articulate, but his 15mins are up, to many far more experienced (women) candidates. He just doesnt have their gravitas.

by Anonymousreply 209February 10, 2019 3:06 AM

R207 Really? You just discovered that reality? Apparently so did Beto. The US had a priority to corral China, then they could shore up CA & SA.

TPP had China trapped by the strength of united Democracies in the region. PRC then begin extending its shitty deals to our neighbors region when they could no longer exploit their weaker neighbors. Trump just handed the keys to global economy to China over the past 2 years. With a better President, we could have shored up all of CA/SA. Trump screwed the world with Putin’s advice.

by Anonymousreply 210February 10, 2019 3:12 AM

OMG R207 are you for real? That little “obsession” has been unleashing AK15’s and handgrenades on our European Allies since 2001. The only think keeping that tragedy off our shores is the Atlantic Ocean. You just make me realize what a lightweight Beto is. Thanks for the heads up.

by Anonymousreply 211February 10, 2019 3:15 AM

Oh bullshit r209. If/When Beto enters the race, watch all the attention shift to him almost immediately. He may not have the "experience" that some of the others do, but he has something that may be more important in the long run; the ability to make people excited for his campaign.

by Anonymousreply 212February 10, 2019 12:11 PM

I like Beto but he’s already a non-starter. That ship sailed.

by Anonymousreply 214February 10, 2019 4:47 PM

It's an amazing phenomenon watching people make such sweeping statements A YEAR before the first primary. But okay r213, work.

It's especially stupid in Beto's case when has a big case of support out there, support that is young and interet savvy, and the ability to fundraise a lot of money.

by Anonymousreply 217February 10, 2019 5:12 PM

Beto's got the El Paso event tomorrow (thank you Donald Trump), then the Oprah interview this week, then the documentary on HBO about his grassroots campaign in Texas. It's gonna be all-Beto, all the time.

by Anonymousreply 218February 10, 2019 6:05 PM

I disagree r213, but I guess we'll see soon enough.

by Anonymousreply 219February 10, 2019 9:24 PM

If Beto announces on President's Day, he's an idiot.

R212, the only reason all the focus would shift to him is the presence of a dick that's attached to a white man.

by Anonymousreply 220February 10, 2019 9:30 PM

R220, if you've seen him talk, he brings a lot more to the table than just being a white man. You can't run out that tired trope on literally every white man.

by Anonymousreply 221February 10, 2019 9:32 PM

Oh, have we already entered tired trope area when it comes to calling out white male privilege? Wow, it's only been like a year and a half. That was quick. If he jumps in and all focus shifts to him at the expense of every other more qualified candidate, all of whom happen to be female or black or both, you'll know exactly why even though you won't admit it.

by Anonymousreply 222February 10, 2019 9:38 PM

Do you honestly believe that white male privilege has only been being called out for the last year and a half? It has been a lot longer than that. And you have obviously already made a determination of who is more qualified then he. Does that include someone who has been a Senator for only two years while he has been a Congressman for six?

by Anonymousreply 223February 10, 2019 9:55 PM

Are you referring to the former Attorney general of the largest state in the nation, R223? A bit disingenuous of you, don't you think? What was Beto doing before he was in the House and went on to lose his last election?

by Anonymousreply 224February 10, 2019 10:05 PM

Also, yes, I do believe it has only been about a year and a half or so where calling out white male privilege has hit mainstream. The rise of the MeToo movement is when it started full blast.

by Anonymousreply 225February 10, 2019 10:07 PM

So, R224, you believe that we should just write off all red state Democrats because they might lose a statewide election? That is a very weak argument from anyone. Do you really think Kamala would have been elected AG of Texas? Would that disqualify her in your mind? We'd better be figuring out ways of getting red state Dems like Beto and Stacy Abrams to have a bigger presence where they might know how to appeal more to red state and swing voters. It isn't like CA and NY voters are going to NOT vote for them too.

by Anonymousreply 226February 10, 2019 10:37 PM

Nothing against the boy, but at the same time I have to admit I'm baffled by the Beto-mania. It's hard to see where his experience or other qualifications set him much above the field. He seems like a bit of a blank slate with respect to political positions, which is somewhat of a red flag to me.

by Anonymousreply 227February 10, 2019 10:40 PM

It is his charisma and ability to connect with people that set him much higher than the rest of the field. The campaign is just as much a TV show as it is anything else. If you think people vote for policy wonks, you have to look no farther back than 2016 to see how untrue that is.

by Anonymousreply 228February 10, 2019 10:44 PM

Obama was a new Senator when he ran too. And Trump had never been elected to any office whatsoever.

Like her or not, Kamala is a winning ticket. She has the "it" factor Obama had, and she'll be able to win back the minority Obama voters who couldn't get it up for Hillary.

Add Beto as her running mate, and they'll win. Mark my words.

by Anonymousreply 229February 10, 2019 10:47 PM

I'm not going to vote for a candidate based on "charisma". I'm looking for something stronger in the mix. George W fucking Bush had "charisma" coming out the ears, and look where that got us.

by Anonymousreply 230February 10, 2019 10:51 PM

R230, it got him elected president. You're missing my point. It doesn't matter if YOU are going to vote based on charisma, but a hell of a lot of your fellow voters are and you'd better be worried about that if you want to be voting for the winner.

And I agree with you, R229...except it will be Beto at the top of the ticket with her as VP. It also gives her a much better chance to be elected herself in eight years.

by Anonymousreply 231February 10, 2019 10:55 PM

R215. People are (were) modelling Beto on Obama but it’s emerged that he just doesn’t have Obama’s intelligence. His only appeal is that he’s young, with no real message to rally around and no grasp of issues. Kamala will wipe the floor with his ass on debates.

by Anonymousreply 232February 10, 2019 11:18 PM

R232 - not true. If you followed the Senate campaign on Facebook (all 350+ of his Town Halls were livestreamed), he got asked a mindblowing array of questions on every conceivable topic or issue - from Israel to farm subsidies to economic plans to healthcare to NATO to politics in Central America to climate change to whatever. He was amazingly well-informed and spoke very articulately on every topic. He never relied on a teleprompter or prepared speeches. It was always off the cuff.

The speech he got famous for - defending the NFL kneelers - the question was asked by a Cruz staffer who filmed Beto's response and figured they had sunk his campaign in Texas. Beto was asked the question by the staffer at an all-white Town Hall in a Republican county north of Houston. That takes balls, knowledge and eloquence. There's nobody out there like him.

by Anonymousreply 233February 10, 2019 11:54 PM

[quote]If you think people vote for policy wonks, you have to look no farther back than 2016 to see how untrue that is.

I believe 3 million more people voted for a policy wonk.

by Anonymousreply 234February 11, 2019 12:01 AM

And, yet, unfortunately, it still wasn't enough, R234.

by Anonymousreply 235February 11, 2019 12:03 AM

Why does everyone think KAMELA is so damn smart? I don't get it. Screwing a married man politician sure wasn't smart. Plus again, she's the1 per cent, mansion in Brentwood and probably San Fran.

by Anonymousreply 236February 11, 2019 12:03 AM

R236 Beto is 1%.

by Anonymousreply 237February 11, 2019 12:06 AM

R235, your argument was that people don't vote for a policy wonk. The fact is that 3 million more people voted for the policy wonk than voted for the "charismatic" one. And, do we really need to get into the cheating and hacking again? Your argument is moot because numbers are numbers.

by Anonymousreply 238February 11, 2019 12:13 AM

And r220? Because he's a white man he shouldn't be allowed to run? WTF are you suggesting?

IF he decides to run (and at this point it is still an IF), he has just as much a right to as anybody else who is already in the race or about to join it; and the primaries will decide who comes out on top.

by Anonymousreply 239February 11, 2019 12:18 AM

R239, he can run all he likes but if the media focus suddenly shifts to all Beto, all the time, it's because of his possession of a white dick. It's called reality.

by Anonymousreply 241February 11, 2019 12:23 AM

That's the media, we don't have any control over that.

All we can do is work hard for our favorite candidate and hope for the best as far as their chances go.

It's not fair but what is?

by Anonymousreply 242February 11, 2019 12:25 AM

The media has chosen the president since the first televised debate between Nixon and JFK. It's only gotten worse since them.

by Anonymousreply 243February 11, 2019 12:28 AM

R240, it must get exhausting living in your own world of conspiracy theories and social slights being the meaning behind everything that doesn't go your way. Good luck.

by Anonymousreply 244February 11, 2019 12:28 AM

Is she president, R238? If not, you lost your argument.

by Anonymousreply 245February 11, 2019 12:31 AM

R244, grow up. I'm not running for anything. Facts are facts. Why do you think the taller candidate has always won? It's appearance and the media is the master of shaping appearance or are unfamiliar with the creation of President Donald Trump that they were able to pull off by giving him unending rally coverage while purposefully taking Clinton down every single day? They are why Trump is in office today. They admitted it. "Trump might not be good for the nation, but he's great for CBS!" ~ Moonves

R245, again, see if you can figure out simple words. You say people don't vote for policy wonks. I say 3 million more people voted for the policy wonk in 2016. Which one is a fact? Maybe you can find a 3rd grader to help you pick out the fact.

by Anonymousreply 246February 11, 2019 12:35 AM

You honestly believe that Drumpf won because he is TALLER than HRC, R246? And that the media selected him and were "...purposefully taking Clinton down every single day?" So, you're telling us that television is the source of all of this. HRC had nothing to do with this at all, and if she had just been a tall, white, man everything would have turned out differently. Sure...you don't believe in conspiracy theories at all. Thanks for clarifying that for us.

by Anonymousreply 247February 11, 2019 12:40 AM

I would like to vote for a woman President. I voted for Hillary and am still pissed off the Russkis fucked us over. But none of the women candidates so far cut it. Having followed Beto's Senate campaign, he's the only one who has the magic to pull it off.

Presidents are - for good or ill - chosen on the basis of their star power. Bill Clinton, Obama. Even fucking Dubya. Beto has it. He also has a great looking family with a nice, unthreatening wife, photogenic young kids, a shitload of pets - he is the anti-Trump and it's the anti-Trump we want. White women in the suburbs are the key. They voted for Trump because so many women hate other women. That hasn't changed since 2016. Nominating a female candidate who can't match Hillary for qualifications and has plenty of issues of her own, just ensures the asshole stays in the White House another 4 years. If he does, that's the end of the Republic.

by Anonymousreply 248February 11, 2019 1:09 AM

Completely agree, R248

by Anonymousreply 249February 11, 2019 1:16 AM

I think Beto grew up the wealthiest of the Dem contenders, I wonder if that will be used against him in the primary. Even the story of how he learned spanish, from his nanny, gives off that 1%er vibe. Not the message of the party right now, something for his team to be prepared for.

by Anonymousreply 250February 11, 2019 2:38 AM

He doesn't have what it takes to play hardball with the Putins, the Xis and the Assads and come out as a winner. His foreign policy ideas are outright dangerous for the survival of western democracies.

by Anonymousreply 251February 11, 2019 2:57 AM

R250 Beto's family isn't rich. His wife's family is. His father was an El Paso character, a minor league politician and free spirit. His mother inherited a furniture store and some real estate. They're upper middle class. He has two sisters. One is a hospice nurse - not exactly a profession that attracts heiresses and his other sister has Angelman Syndrome, is mentally and physically disabled and will be dependent for life.

by Anonymousreply 252February 11, 2019 3:03 AM

R247, I can't even argue with someone as stupid as you seem to be. Maybe you can get a third grader to teach you reading comprehension, too. Yeah, that's what I was saying, Trump won because of his height and not the media crawling up his ass. Yep. That's it. Moron.

I like how R248 just skipped right over the 2018 elections where women across the country, including suburban Republican ones, voted for Democratic women overwhelmingly. It's men who hate women. The vast majority of men also hate Democrats. You might want to focus here.

by Anonymousreply 253February 11, 2019 3:08 AM

Feel free to come back to reality at your own convenience, R253. The grown-ups will already be here.

by Anonymousreply 254February 11, 2019 3:11 AM

r253, they also voted for Democratic men or are you just going to ignore that fact? They voted for DEMOCRATS period, regardless of what was between their legs.

And men hate women? So any man who doesn't vote for a woman is a misogynist in your eyes? That's such a bizarre thought I don't even know what to say about it.

Is every woman who won't vote for a man a misandrist? Yeah, didn't think so.

by Anonymousreply 255February 11, 2019 3:14 AM

So, R254, are you disputing the fact that the media crawled up Trump's ass or that suburban women broke heavily for female candidates in 2018? Both are facts, grown-up facts.

R255, you're an idiot. MRA, no doubt. BernBro, most likely. I didn't say any of those things and was responding to the poster who said that women hate women and never vote for female candidates while completely ignoring 2018's election. Do you just react or do you actually read the comments that people are responding to? Is it just too much readin' for ya?

by Anonymousreply 256February 11, 2019 3:17 AM

No, Beto was not upper middle class r252. He wasn't a Trump or a Bush of course, but his parents were wealthy.

When he decided to run for congess, his mother gave him millions of dollars in assets.

[quote]Additionally, O’Rourke valued his partial ownership of Peppertree Square Ltd., a shopping center in El Paso — which was a gift from his mother in 2012 — at between $2 million and $10 million.

Beto attended an elite east coast boarding schools, he had a charmed upbringing.

by Anonymousreply 257February 11, 2019 3:18 AM

Shh, R257, you're going to deflate their Beto hard-on.

by Anonymousreply 258February 11, 2019 3:21 AM

The boarding school Beto went to (for one year) is neither especially prestigious nor costly. I went to a boarding school and my father was a doctor. I must have had a charmed upbringing too.

by Anonymousreply 259February 11, 2019 3:21 AM

I don't give a damn if he is wealthy or not.

by Anonymousreply 260February 11, 2019 3:23 AM

Maybe he just seemed so appealing because he was running against Cruz. I’ve been less than in love with him since. That dentist visit was cringe.

by Anonymousreply 261February 11, 2019 3:23 AM

There is one serious Beto hating bitch on this thread.

by Anonymousreply 262February 11, 2019 3:23 AM

Yes, you did, R259. The fact that you don't get that is strange.

by Anonymousreply 263February 11, 2019 3:30 AM

You seem incredibly out of touch with the average American r257. You sarcastically say charmed life, yes if you have a successful physician father who could afford to send you to boarding school you did have financially charmed upbringing. The average American could never afford such a thing.

You call it not costly, when it costs 57k a year.

by Anonymousreply 264February 11, 2019 3:31 AM

r259*

by Anonymousreply 265February 11, 2019 3:31 AM

[quote] Beto's got the El Paso event tomorrow (thank you Donald Trump), then the Oprah interview this week, then the documentary on HBO about his grassroots campaign in Texas. It's gonna be all-Beto, all the time.

Sounds like he's getting ready to announce he's running.

by Anonymousreply 266February 11, 2019 3:35 AM

Yes, he said he is announcing this month r266.

[quote]I don't give a damn if he is wealthy or not.

Yeah, I am not saying it should be some disqualifying thing at all. I quite like Beto actually. I'm just pointing out the facts, and given Sanders and Warren campaign focus, I could them attacking him with it in the primary.

by Anonymousreply 267February 11, 2019 3:39 AM

How do you attack someone for having parents who were well off? What was he supposed to do...move out when he was in first grade?

by Anonymousreply 268February 11, 2019 3:53 AM

It's his wife who's father is a billionaire.

by Anonymousreply 269February 11, 2019 4:05 AM

Too bad he couldn't marry a Native American...or BE a Native American. Well, I guess it isn't too late.

by Anonymousreply 270February 11, 2019 4:07 AM

R268 the troll apparently has the DL mixed up with World Socialist WebSite.

by Anonymousreply 271February 11, 2019 4:08 AM

...really r268? In the world of politics people get attacked over literally everything.

And it is pretty obvious, you portray them as out of touch with needs of average Americans. As opposed to candidates like Warren and Sanders who grew up in very relatable humble origins.

by Anonymousreply 272February 11, 2019 4:08 AM

Well, sure Warren and Sanders did, R272, because he was born in a log cabin and she was born in a wigwam, both in about 1878. They'll have to have the debates wrap up by 6:00 p.m. EST for both them and Joe Biden or they'll all nod off at the lecterns.

by Anonymousreply 273February 11, 2019 4:14 AM

R272 "relatable humble origins".. born in a trailer park, were you?

by Anonymousreply 274February 11, 2019 4:41 AM

Looks like we're going to have to come up with a name for the insufferable Beto fans just like we did for the insufferable Bernie fans. Should be just keep is simple and go with BetoBros? That would have the added bonus of pissing off the BernBros by comparison.

by Anonymousreply 275February 11, 2019 6:11 AM

Oh shut up, R275. Hate to burst your bubble but Hilary is not going to run.

by Anonymousreply 276February 11, 2019 6:16 AM

Wow. Is that really your response, R276? You shut up, you big poopyhead!! You BernBros are so transparent and childish it's hilarious. The only person talking about Hillary is you, dummy.

by Anonymousreply 277February 11, 2019 6:46 AM

Michelle Obama will be the nominee in 2020

by Anonymousreply 278February 11, 2019 6:57 AM

Big day today, El Paso counterrally.

by Anonymousreply 279February 11, 2019 3:39 PM

Michelle won't run. Though I think it's not impossible she might get picked as VP if the Presidential candidate is a white guy (probably Beto).

by Anonymousreply 280February 11, 2019 5:54 PM

Michelle Obama does not want to be a politician. She has said this over and over, including in her book.

by Anonymousreply 281February 11, 2019 5:56 PM

Will he get arrested today at the counter rally? Beto in handcuffs? He should announce his presidental run today at the rally

by Anonymousreply 282February 11, 2019 6:03 PM

It's not a Beto event, he was invited as the guest speaker so I am skeptical he will announce tonight.

by Anonymousreply 283February 11, 2019 6:14 PM

He won't.

He said the end of February and that's what he meant.

by Anonymousreply 284February 11, 2019 6:17 PM

He won't run. His heart isn't in it. He hasn't responded well to even basic interviews since his senate run. Some people are better eye candy than presidential canddiates

by Anonymousreply 285February 11, 2019 6:43 PM

Okay r285. Will you admit you are wrong when he announces his Presidency? He is doing it this month, he is definitely running.

by Anonymousreply 286February 11, 2019 6:44 PM

I think he's going to wait and see how his El Paso rally is received. If it is mocked like his livestreaming dentist appointment, I don't think he'll run.

by Anonymousreply 287February 11, 2019 6:47 PM

True story, Beto did not livestream his dentist appointment. That's just bullshit that people keep repeating .

by Anonymousreply 288February 11, 2019 6:50 PM

R288 He did, I watched it

by Anonymousreply 289February 11, 2019 6:54 PM

No you didn't r289. He included an interview with his dental hygienist as part of his series of interviews about people living in the border that included a one second shot of him posing with the dental equipment. It was not a stream of his dental appointment, that is a gross mischaracterization.

by Anonymousreply 290February 11, 2019 6:58 PM

Oh I get what you are saying now. But I don't think that distinction makes a TON of difference to most people

by Anonymousreply 291February 11, 2019 7:07 PM

I just need the crystal ball to tell me who can beat trump in 2020 and that's who I'm voting for.

by Anonymousreply 292February 11, 2019 7:55 PM

Nice try R275, but Beto could never be the Russian stooge Bernie was and continues to be. Beto is a real democrat.

He could be nice VP for Kamala Harris

by Anonymousreply 295February 12, 2019 12:03 AM

Trump is already trying to compare sizes with Beto

[quote] "We have a line that is very long already, I'm mean you see what's going on. And I understand our competitor's got a line too, but it's a tiny little line. Of course [the media] make it sound like they have more people than we do. That's not going to happen."

Trump can't keep his mind off of Beto r296.

Notice Beto doesn't seem to be giving any thought to Trump.

Says so much.

by Anonymousreply 297February 12, 2019 12:47 AM

Always the most hyped, Jeb, Little Marco, YeeHaw Dean ... have great buildups only to crush and burn in the primaries. Poor Beto will be no match for those piranhas.

by Anonymousreply 298February 12, 2019 12:49 AM

Does Trump really want to compare the length of anything with Beto? I don't think so.

by Anonymousreply 299February 12, 2019 12:50 AM

Beto will likely be a VP running mate to someone. Maybe Biden.

by Anonymousreply 300February 12, 2019 1:00 AM

Why are all the Democrats running so far all old and boring?! Jesus, we need some young people who are charismatic, good looking and smart to run because let’s face it - those things DO help make people take notice. These old boring ass people are not going to attract younger voters.

by Anonymousreply 301February 12, 2019 1:16 AM

Anyone else watching his speech? His speaking cadence is odd.

by Anonymousreply 302February 12, 2019 1:19 AM

Huh r301? The candidates who have declared for Presidency are not old, the only old one is Warren so far.

by Anonymousreply 303February 12, 2019 1:19 AM

I fear Beto's goodness will make him totally appease Russia or just fail to stand up to them. I can see him being very noble and saying to a crowd "We have to give them a chance to engage in good faith" (like that's never done before, and before that, and before that). The GOP Senate would roll over him worse than they undermined Obama from 2011 on.

He'd make a great VP. I was all about him as president, but then I saw how he wouldn't endorse his GOP friend's Dem competitor for the only border district represented by a GOP guy. It told me that he doesn't have a certain kind of ruthlessness we need in a chief executive -- but that's great for a VP. He can tour the world and give speeches to repair our international standing, like Obama did in, for example, Berlin.

... Someone else will be at home defending democracy against Russia. Playing Hardball with them and the GOP.

He's really cute, though. Very nice-looking.

by Anonymousreply 306February 12, 2019 2:25 AM

Beto gave another barnburner of a speech tonight. Annie Leibovitz was behind him on stage. Wonder what's up with.

by Anonymousreply 307February 12, 2019 3:17 AM

R307 nice catch. Vanity Fair spread I guess.

I wonder if he finds giving speeches energizing or draining. Looks awfully exhausting to me.

by Anonymousreply 308February 12, 2019 3:18 AM

Exactly my thoughts R304!

by Anonymousreply 309February 12, 2019 3:25 AM

Do any of you care that he's a centrist that doesn't embrace truly progressive ideals?

So someone that might appeal to the voters it takes to win a general election r310?

by Anonymousreply 311February 12, 2019 4:31 AM

You think at this time in our history a wealthy white male centrist is the way to go? Really?

by Anonymousreply 312February 12, 2019 4:34 AM

R310, not at this point. I just want the democratic system to survive. Someone who can raise tons of money and win is most important right now.

by Anonymousreply 313February 12, 2019 4:37 AM

My number 1 priority is beating Trump. I don't know if that is Beto, but the primary should show who has got the right stuff as a campaigner.

by Anonymousreply 314February 12, 2019 4:38 AM

R312, I'm not for Beto (I'm the one who wants him as VP), but if he can win the presidency and get Cheeto out of office, where others can't (big assumption, however, as I'm with Harris -- sorry I'm not that progressive), I'm fine with that.

by Anonymousreply 315February 12, 2019 4:38 AM

Watch his speech on YouTube - he doesn't use teleprompters - he talks off the cuff. He's a brilliant orator - passionate and eloquent. Trump's bots are all on there trashing Beto. Beto scares the shit out of Trump.

There is something about this guy that makes me want to stop and listen to him. He has personal charm and charisma. He looks like he would always tell the truth. Very earnest. Very Jimmy Stewart. So refreshing from that pile of garbage spewing slug currently in charge. Trump is so hideous like a puss filled wound that keeps draining all over us

by Anonymousreply 317February 12, 2019 4:53 AM

Bernie Sanders then Elizabeth Warren for President 2020. These two are good for the American people and our Democracy.

They also make wall street and the asshole billionaires shit bricks and keep them from sleeping at night. Thes two deserve to be President of our US Democracy, USA USA. Beto is from Texas, which is HQ of the Republican Party and the Fossil Fuel Industry. I don;t think that Texas will turn Blue in 2020. But, we have to try to appeal to them progressives and sane people in that state.

Wall street and the Devos Billionaires are so afraid of these two: Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren

It should be them..

by Anonymousreply 318February 12, 2019 6:30 AM

Any more about "charisma" and I swear I'm going to scream. I want someone who is tough, shrewd and clever, with positions that I can generally agree with. I don't care about their race, sex or age, and I don't think most other voters do either. Focusing on "charisma" is just so shallow, like this is an episode of American Idol.

by Anonymousreply 319February 12, 2019 10:00 AM

Why hasn't anyone covered his rally? I have seen nothing this morning. Did anyone show up? Did he have a bigger crowd than Trump?

by Anonymousreply 320February 12, 2019 11:33 AM

R310 don't bring up his political positions. The important thing is that he has CHARISMA.

by Anonymousreply 321February 12, 2019 11:36 AM

Beto is a good cheerleader, but short on policy substance and toughness. He should run for Senate.

by Anonymousreply 322February 12, 2019 11:43 AM

Crowd estimates were around 7000. Lawrence ODonnell was covering it last night. He would make an excellent VP candidate. I think he was tough enough to almost oust Cruz in Texas of all places

by Anonymousreply 323February 12, 2019 12:42 PM

Morning Joe said this morning the estimate was about 8000 people went to Beto last night.

Not too shabby.

There's STILL a lot of excitement for him and his possible candidacy.

by Anonymousreply 324February 12, 2019 12:52 PM

r310, We need to kick the Orange Cretin and all his minions out of the White House first and foremost; we can't afford to hold "purity" tests this time around. Later on, after we take back the presidency and make sure Republicans can't win it for at least another generation, we can worry about how progressive our candidates are.

If we do what we did in 2016, and refuse to vote for our nominee, we will LOSE to Fuckface again.

by Anonymousreply 325February 12, 2019 12:55 PM

[quote]Focusing on "charisma" is just so shallow, like this is an episode of American Idol.

You live in a make believe world where voters care about detailed policies on the issues and do lots of research in order to pick the candidate who is best suited for the problems at hand.

I live in the real world. People who are charismatic, effective campaigners are the people who win. The last two Dem presidents, what did Bill Clinton and Barack Obama have in common? We both know the answer.

by Anonymousreply 326February 12, 2019 1:02 PM

Trumps win was more about policy than people like to acknowledge. He ran on protecting social security and government run healthcare. He has done the opposite of those things since elected. But promising some liberal priorities did a lot to win over those poor voters in the midwest.

It's because those voters say how he governed that the midwest swung back to democrats in the midterms

by Anonymousreply 327February 12, 2019 1:05 PM

r326, and John F. Kennedy before them. He had charisma up the wazoo (as you can still see when you see old clips of him).

The only other Democratic president we've had in that time period is of course Carter, and he wasn't exactly brimming with charisma either, but I consider him an anomaly, who 1) won because of the still lingering outrage at Republicans over Watergate 2) may have won but it was actually pretty close (in the popular vote anyway) between Ford and him. 3) won but turned out to be a pretty weak president and was easily defeated in 1980 by Reagan.

by Anonymousreply 328February 12, 2019 1:18 PM

Oops! I forgot completely about Johnson. He was pretty charisma free too, but he was also an accidental president; having inherited the office after Kennedy's assassination. He did win a landslide victory in 1964, but considering his Republican competition that year, that's not surprising.

The point is politicians (Democrats) with charisma have been the ones to win the presidency the majority of the time in the last 60 years or so; the ones without it have more often than not been the losers:

Humphrey 1968 McGovern 1972 Carter (defeated for re-election in 1980) Mondale 1984 Dukakis 1988 Gore 2000 Kerry 2004 H. Clinton 2016

Any questions?

We need somebody with CHARISMA to win in 2020.

by Anonymousreply 329February 12, 2019 1:27 PM

He’s going to run, but I don’t think he really wants to be President... he’s angling for the VP slot.

I’d love to see a Harris / Beto ticket. I think they would be unbeatable.

by Anonymousreply 330February 12, 2019 1:37 PM

The strongest ticket is Harris/Warren. Harris is more electable to most Americans, especially suburban voters. Warren shores up Harris with the left

by Anonymousreply 331February 12, 2019 1:40 PM

Warren doesn’t have any charisma. The VP needs to be a cheerleader...which is exactly what Beto is.

by Anonymousreply 332February 12, 2019 1:46 PM

People who honestly think the ticket would be two women are delusional. If a woman wins they are picking a male veep.

by Anonymousreply 333February 12, 2019 1:49 PM

Women powered the democrats to a huge victory in 2018. Dems won the women vote by lopsided margins in every every competitive area. They should lean in that. The era of women politely voting with their husbands has passed.

by Anonymousreply 334February 12, 2019 1:51 PM

He's a neo-liberal, but this time in a dress, rather than an old woman or an. African American. (The elites just keep changing it up.)

by Anonymousreply 335February 12, 2019 1:52 PM

Beto is too “nice” to be at the top of the ticket. He won’t go on the attack, and will get destroyed by Trump.

He needs to be the VP candidate, with one of the prosecutors, like Harris or Klobuchar at the top.

by Anonymousreply 336February 12, 2019 1:55 PM

Beto is going nowhere, oh you silly queens. Stop supporting. some guy because he reminds you of that sweet handsome jock you wanted to blow back in college!

by Anonymousreply 339February 12, 2019 2:06 PM

He seems like a typical Generation X slacker... skateboard and all.

by Anonymousreply 340February 12, 2019 2:07 PM

Definitely need a prosecutor.

He has no boundaries when it comes to "kindness." It'll be hopeless GOP appeasement worse than under Obama before the 2010 election. It'll be bending over for Russia (reset, no counterattack against their interference with our domestic affairs, and actions-by-proxy against our military overseas).

He doesn't know how to do "predator." Everything is a "conversation" where every view "deserves respect."

Also, borders are essentially open with him if you're poor (listen to his speech from last night). You're just "seeking a better life for your children" and deserve endless compassion. That's too much. Zero moderation when it comes to actually enforcing our borders. No visa overstayers or undocumented immigrants (apart from violent felons) will be deported, even if they've committed identity theft. Because all they were doing was seeking a better life (for their children -- always mention the children).

In his mind, America has a debt to pay the world. That may or may not be true, but you don't say/imply that as President. You negotiate for one side. They claim we owe them, we push back, reaching some kind of compromise.

He's super adorable and very sweet/kind. He'll do great on an overseas tour (the EU will gush) for a stronger president. She'll stay at home actually defending us while he "rebuilds bridges" will our allies.

Good cop/bad cop. But don't tell him that's the strategy, President Harris, because it'll be "insincere" and "not something I want to do."

R341 Trump has made liberal immigration policies much more popular. More people say they trust democrats on immigration rather than republicans than ever before.

Dems should lean into that. Don't run away from a strength. Embrace it

by Anonymousreply 343February 12, 2019 2:20 PM

He needs some Dale Carnegie courses, he's a terrible speaker. Looks like a young RFK, sounds like your best high school history teacher, the one you'd see at a club after graduation.

by Anonymousreply 344February 12, 2019 2:23 PM

R342, there's liberal and there's "abolish ICE." We can move left on immigration w/o making the far left think we've promised them something. When the economy goes bad and resentment starts increasing, we'll have the slack to rein it in without the far left saying we're "going back on" some kind of "promise." That way we can reach some kind of comprehensive immigration reform deal that gives more resources to enforcement but legalizes those already here.

by Anonymousreply 345February 12, 2019 2:32 PM

El Paso Fire Dept published figures. 6,500 showed up at the Coliseum for Trump's rally. 10,000 marched and 15,000 showed up for Beto's speech.

by Anonymousreply 346February 12, 2019 3:46 PM

R331 No way. Biden/Beto is the strongest.

by Anonymousreply 347February 12, 2019 3:51 PM

Kamala has entitled bitch attitude and genetic ethnic privilege. Comes across as smug, thinks She is smarter than you. As has been often said, Warren is like your mean, hateful third grade teacher. Neither is ELECTABLE. And straight men will not vote for two old baggy gashes.

by Anonymousreply 348February 12, 2019 3:52 PM

Democrats will lose straight white men no matter what. They voted for Trump in droves. That's his base. It's idiotic to measure your nominees appeal to your opponents base. The voters that gave democrats 40 seats in the house are middle class, educated white women. Many didn't vote in 2016 and would happily vote for Harris/Warren

by Anonymousreply 349February 12, 2019 4:17 PM

Agreed, R349.

by Anonymousreply 350February 12, 2019 4:26 PM

Beto is charismatic and youthful. Also remember that 2018 had a new generation voting. 2020 more Gen Zers will be voting.

by Anonymousreply 351February 12, 2019 8:19 PM

He reminds me of an american Justin Trudeau, always ready to listen to you tell him how what he's doing at any given time is bigoted, and with a pocket full of apologies for everyone. I can 100% see Beto wearing that ridiculous garb in India and "playing dress up" while really just being offensively ridiculous.

We don't need what the right pretended obama was, we need an Obama! If Obama knew when to 'apologize' and when to say 'go fuck yourself.' Kamala is the closest we've got to that--so far--so I'm on her train atm.

by Anonymousreply 352February 12, 2019 8:27 PM

Also Beto is... not smart. He's the faux-deep that progressives and university students love to be impressed by, but that act has a shelf life, and it'll be expired long before nov. 2020. Now I know what you're going to say: "b-b-but what about tRump?! He's stupid!!" Yes he is, but if there's one thing we know in this era of trump, it's that the political rules don't apply to him the same way they apply to everyone else. At first people thought he'd fail bc he didn't follow the rules, and he succeeded. Then people thought that the rules no longer applied, but they still applied to everyone else. Trump just exists in a space apart, and rather than whining about how unfair that is (and it is) we need someone SMART who can puncture the Trump bubble. I don't think Beto can.

Having said that, I've said before and still think that democrats could nominate a corpse for president and the corpse would beat Trump, enough people trump NEEDS to vote for him to win again have irrevocably turned on him. But I don't just want trump to lose, I want him to lose AND be humiliated.

by Anonymousreply 353February 12, 2019 8:33 PM

[quote] Having said that, I've said before and still think that democrats could nominate a corpse for president and the corpse would beat Trump

Lol well put. I would not go quite this far, but I agree Trump is more beatable than many acknowledge. Remember, he got less votes that ROMNEY (who lost by 4 points!!) Democrats could fail to convince a single one of his voters to switch and still win by a landslide. He got very lucky in the electoral college, there's no other secret to his win

by Anonymousreply 354February 12, 2019 8:37 PM

Sorry girls. Kamala has resting bitch face and is smug. She's shady, not smart. None at all a winner. Be to is like a hyperactive 15 year old on a video game. He's spastic. More electable than kamala but kind of a loser. Might as well nominate Jay Lo. She could win.

by Anonymousreply 355February 12, 2019 10:13 PM

People who think that this country is ready to vote for ticket with two females on it are deluding themselves. I'm still not sure a woman at the top of the ticket again as soon as 2020 is even a good idea, but if it happens, Kamala is by far the strongest possibility because she won't be afraid to be a bitch to Trump if she has to be.

by Anonymousreply 356February 12, 2019 10:21 PM

I think a lot of people on this thread are underestimating Beto in many ways.

But I guess we'll see if/when he ends up running.

by Anonymousreply 357February 12, 2019 10:24 PM

Only East Coast Bernos underestimate Betito. He is really strong in the Southwest and should help Dems take over the Senate.

The West will run away with the 2020 primaries. <3 <3

by Anonymousreply 358February 12, 2019 10:27 PM

kamala/beto will win....he is hot and nice and a good man.

by Anonymousreply 359February 12, 2019 10:40 PM

It will be Biden/Beto for the win.

Both camps have already talked.

by Anonymousreply 360February 12, 2019 10:43 PM

I know it's shallow, but his excessive arm gesturing is annoying, and it distracts me from whatever he's talking about.

by Anonymousreply 362February 12, 2019 10:58 PM

Who are all these Democrats who think Biden is such a great choice? I don't get it; he's already lost two primaries in his career.

by Anonymousreply 363February 12, 2019 11:03 PM

Beto is a potential Veep right now, more than a Prexy.

I see him as a Veep with Harris, Klobuchar, Warren, Booker - the serious contenders.

It's dicier with old man Biden, though - if he really manages to steal the primary, he's going to need someone other than a white man (even a young, hot one) for his Veep pick.

by Anonymousreply 364February 12, 2019 11:04 PM

Klobuchar will never get the nomination r364, and frankly neither will Warren or Booker.

And Beto may just surprise you all and take the whole thing. EIther that, or BIden will pick either Beto or Kamala as his VP.

by Anonymousreply 365February 12, 2019 11:09 PM

R360, Biden/Beto would be an electoral disaster, plain and simple. Two right-leaning white guys at a time when politics are trending leftwards wouldn't work; not least of all because it would leave the Democrats at risk of another Russian-funded run from the left (Bernie or the equivalent) to split the vote. The Democratic Party couldn't possibly be foolish or tone-deaf enough to walk into such an obvious trap.

by Anonymousreply 366February 12, 2019 11:11 PM

[quote]The latest.

Those polls only take the North East into account. Why don't they poll California, Texas, Nevada, and South Carolina?? Cuz then it ruins their narrative.

Nevada is not voting for Biden over Harris and O'Rourke

California is not voting for Biden over Harris.

Texas is not voting Biden over Beto

by Anonymousreply 367February 12, 2019 11:12 PM

Biden and Beto are right leaning? Now I've heard everything.

Sorry r366, but Bernie will never win the nomination and AOC is still too young to run.

by Anonymousreply 368February 12, 2019 11:13 PM

[quote]Biden and Beto are right leaning

The poster is basically correct. In the field of the democratic primary, Biden and Beto are to the right. You have to remember this is a pretty left leaning group of candidates, which is a reflection of how the Democratic Party has moved to the left. They aren't part of the "medicare for all" group.

by Anonymousreply 369February 12, 2019 11:16 PM

R366 of course Bernie won't win. He knows that. He wants to make a statement and play the spoiler. He would like nothing better than Biden to campaign against.

by Anonymousreply 370February 12, 2019 11:20 PM

[quote] He wants to make a statement and play the spoiler

Oh, he'll make a statement alright...

by Anonymousreply 371February 12, 2019 11:23 PM

Bernie wants to fuck up the election again and help Trump win. Or is that Jill Stein? Hard to tell the difference between the two sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 372February 12, 2019 11:23 PM

I don't care at all that Biden is old, but I care very much that politically he is of another era. It would make as much sense to run Hubert Humphrey.

by Anonymousreply 373February 12, 2019 11:24 PM

I like Beto as a person but I’m just not feeling Beto wave like we had with Obama. After his electrifying speech at the 2004 convention, there was an air of inevitability about him and that’s what it took to overhaul a Hillary Clinton in her prime.

Signs are pointing to Biden right now, especially since he’s the only one that can get in the mud with Trump and definitely the only dem that can steal some straight white men from him. So who would he pick as veep? I think a woman. Harris or Kloubachar.

by Anonymousreply 374February 12, 2019 11:26 PM

His time as Obama's veep has made people think Biden is a stronger candidate than he is. There is a reason he didn't do great the first two times he ran.

Assuming he jumps into the primary, people will see. A lot of his old baggage, and there will be a lot, will have to be dealt with again. And he is prone to gaffes.

by Anonymousreply 375February 12, 2019 11:28 PM

What would Biden's platform be? "Didn't I do a good job de-regulating banks in the 1990s?" "Wasn't it a good idea to invade Iraq?" He won't make it though a single primary.

That said, one almost has to laugh at the idea of a Trump v Biden v Bernie election. Revenge of the Cranky Old White Guys. Now get off my lawn!

by Anonymousreply 376February 12, 2019 11:41 PM

The LAST of the Cranky Old White Guys might be more accurate.

The electorate and who they want to vote for is changing and in just a few more years, old white men might become much more of a rarity.

by Anonymousreply 377February 12, 2019 11:44 PM

I honestly don't understand how anyone can consider Biden a legitimate contender. Do you think Anita HIll is going to film a commercial for him?

by Anonymousreply 378February 12, 2019 11:51 PM

Watching Beto’s great speech last night, he’s got this Jimmy Stewart/Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch aura.

by Anonymousreply 379February 13, 2019 12:05 AM

He super earnest and I love him but he needs some polish. He's got IT but needs to harness and refine it. Maybe VP 2020 but not ready for the lead.

by Anonymousreply 380February 13, 2019 12:23 AM

Yes we know r380, you've said it often enough.

by Anonymousreply 381February 13, 2019 12:35 AM

I don’t think he’s even VP material yet. Run for senate. Also interesting how media guys like Jake Tapper were lining up behind him saying he “almost” won Texas (against the most hated man in politics) while frequently labling Stacey Abrams a “loser” and a “failure”.

by Anonymousreply 382February 13, 2019 12:44 AM

Typical white male behavior.

by Anonymousreply 383February 13, 2019 12:46 AM

R382 Cruz is unfortunately not the most hated man in Texas. Those Bible thumpers in the sticks love him. He won by taking all the rural counties full of uneducated white trash. Beto not only took all the cities and suburbs, he flipped 4 red counties blue including Tarrant Co. - historically the biggest, reddest county in the whole country.

I never heard anybody call Stacey Abrams a loser. She wasn't getting promoted as much for President but that is largely a function of 1) people are less interested in Governors in general - they don't affect all of us - and 2) all her experience was in the statehouse. Nobody knows statehouse politicians in their own states, much less anyone else's. And 3) Beto fundraised $80 million while refusing PAC donations. Stacey took s a lot of $ too but used PACs. Now people are calling for her to run for President and frankly, she's a helluva lot more interesting than Kamala Harris. Red state Democrats like Beto and Stacey have to get white Republican votes to win and even to get close to winning. Blue state Democrats don't have to. Their appeal is too often limited to only very blue states.

by Anonymousreply 384February 13, 2019 1:00 AM

Please link Jake Tapper saying those things about Stacey Abrams r382.

by Anonymousreply 385February 13, 2019 1:21 AM

[quote] frankly, she's a helluva lot more interesting than Kamala Harris

Uh ... no, no she isn't. Kamala, like Beto, has "it." Whatever it is that makes a candidate exciting, she has it. Stacey doesn't. She says all the right things, but she's just not someone who would inspire a country, or even as many Dems as she'd need to pass a primary test. She's smart to stay out of it for now. What she MIGHT be is a Veep pick. Not for Kamala, obviously, because a black woman can't pick another black woman as a running mate (or even another woman, most likely), but Beto or Biden could pick her.

by Anonymousreply 386February 13, 2019 9:03 AM

The Castros leaked a story to Politico claiming Beto had seen Schumer about maybe running against Cornyn. The Castros are stupid. It's so obvious they're trying to push Beto not to run for President. Julian hasn't got a hope in hell of getting anywhere near the nomination.

by Anonymousreply 387February 14, 2019 2:50 AM

Neither does Beto after that WaPo piece.

R392, Beto has zero interest in challenging Cornyn, ya daft cunt.

by Anonymousreply 395February 14, 2019 3:06 PM

Why the hell *would* Beto do yet another run for Senate rather than the big prize? Electorally it is easier to win the Presidency than a Texas Senate seat for him. And failing to win would be less embarrassing that losing two Senate races two cycles in a row. That's just common sense.

by Anonymousreply 396February 14, 2019 3:14 PM

Cheeto is not worried about Harris or Booker. He figures there's plenty of racist shit and skeletons in their closets to take them down. And Warren he figures would be a piece of cake. He can goad her into ever greater feats of shooting herself in her own foot.

The WSJ article on Beto makes sense. Trump is a showman, a carny, not a politician. Beto's a showman too.

R398 who was the source for that claim? Duh. Joaquin Castro, Julian's bro. Why Julian Castro actually thinks he can run for Prez is beyond me. He's clueless.

Source being Joaquin Castro or Julian Castro.

by Anonymousreply 402February 14, 2019 5:24 PM

DL favorite Garret Haake immediately commented on that Senate story yesterday, saying he had innumerable chats with everyone associated with and close to Beto and not a single one of them even mentioned the possibility of him running again for Senate, and he explained why it doesn’t even make sense. All those reasons have been mentioned in the above comments.

We’ll meet back here shortly and see who was wrong and who was right, r392/398.

by Anonymousreply 403February 14, 2019 5:29 PM

Garrett's a hottie but I trust politico far more than him for political news

by Anonymousreply 404February 14, 2019 5:31 PM

Garrett was on Brian Williams last night. He was with Beto in El Paso for the rally and followed Beto's Senate campaign. He's the one who knows Beto best and he said no way is Beto going to oppose Cornyn. That Politico story was the Castro Bros having a hissy fit about the fact they can't get funding, can't get any attention and know that Beto entering the Presidential campaign will kill off any tiny hope Castro has of winning a Texas primary.

by Anonymousreply 405February 14, 2019 6:02 PM

R405 But Beto did meet with Schumer. I find it hard to believe he would do that if he had "no interest". He doesn't work in DC anymore, he flew in just to do that.

Also every major outlet has reporters following Beto. I highly doubt Garrett has info the others don't.

by Anonymousreply 406February 14, 2019 6:06 PM

I found this news re a Schumer meeting yesterday interesting...

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 407February 14, 2019 6:07 PM

I should add, I do want Garrett's long cock though. And Beto, at the same time

by Anonymousreply 408February 14, 2019 7:07 PM

Trump's going to sign the thing whew. He's going to call an emergency to fund the rest of it, but whatever. Dems will be able to call their own emergencies — and they can tear down the wall over time.

by Anonymousreply 409February 14, 2019 7:09 PM

If Schumer wants to meet with him of course he is going to take the meeting. Doesn't mean that is going to make him change his mind. Any political adviser would say the run for President is the smarter move.

by Anonymousreply 410February 14, 2019 7:11 PM

Lawrence did a great spot on Beto’s rally. Jesus this man is fantastic. He talked about the boogie bears and Messican.

I got to give to him. He may just steal Nevada and California from Kamala. He is definitely getting New Mexico and Arizona.

by Anonymousreply 411February 14, 2019 7:23 PM

When Beto announces, he will blow all the other candidates away. Joe Biden might be the only one he has serious competition from, because Biden is perceived as being wise and experienced. But there’s also the equally strong if not stronger sentiment that we don’t need any more OLD white men.

Young hot hung punk rockers are different.

by Anonymousreply 412February 14, 2019 7:31 PM

If Schumer did talk to Beto, it might have been him asking Beto who should run against Cornyn. M.J. Hegar, the woman with the incredible videos, has spoken about running against Cornyn. The Castros could run against Cornyn but they're both too terrified of running statewide.

MSNBC just announced there's a special tonight in El Paso and Chris Hayes will be interviewing Beto.

by Anonymousreply 413February 14, 2019 9:37 PM

The Castros of course want Beto to run for Senate, not president. Beto would be Julian's main competition for Hispanics and for the Texas primary.

Julian and Joaquin refused to run for Senate and governor in 2018 because they thought they'd lose badly and were more than happy for Beto to be the sacrificial lamb. When Beto came close, they both wound up with egg on their face because, despite losing, Beto built a huge base and gained a national following while Julian's just a former cabinet official.

by Anonymousreply 414February 14, 2019 9:52 PM

Annie Leibovitz is following O'Rourke around El Paso for a Vanity Fair spread on him. He's not running for Senate!

by Anonymousreply 415February 14, 2019 10:01 PM

Exactly, R415. And nobody thinking of running for Senate in 2020 would have held the march/rally in El Paso Monday night.

by Anonymousreply 416February 14, 2019 10:05 PM

If Beto isn't on the Democratic ticket, I hope he's given a prominent position in the government or the party. He has stamina and wide appeal, qualities that shouldn't be thrown away.

by Anonymousreply 417February 14, 2019 10:53 PM

Having seen what Beto did in Texas, if he does run don't underestimate him. He's dynamite.

by Anonymousreply 418February 14, 2019 11:54 PM

I don't think Beto could beat Cornyn. He couldn't beat Cruz. No one has higher negatives than Ted Cruz. If Beto, with all his appeal, couldn't slay Cruz he would have a tough time doing in Cornyn, I think. It's Texas. Republicans still dominate. Maybe not forever, but for now it's a big hill to climb.

by Anonymousreply 419February 15, 2019 12:16 AM

[quote]He has stamina and wide appeal, qualities that shouldn't be thrown away.

Don't forget his big dick. That shouldn't be thrown away either.

by Anonymousreply 420February 15, 2019 12:23 AM

Beto — who is currently being interviewed by Chris Hayes as I type this — is reportedly visiting Wisconsin tomorrow.

Because, you know, that’s what you do when you’re trying to decide whether to run again for a US Senate seat in Texas.

by Anonymousreply 421February 15, 2019 12:24 AM

396 Kamala Harris has it...the it of a flip flopper! it will be Biden and Beto. The Dems want to win the election not take any chances with someone from California who couldn't win the heartland states.

by Anonymousreply 422February 15, 2019 12:25 AM

Kansas and Arizona should be targeted.

by Anonymousreply 423February 15, 2019 12:38 AM

Why Kansas?

by Anonymousreply 424February 15, 2019 12:40 AM

I really don't see anyone picking Beto for a VP, I say that not because I don't like him, I do, but politicians don't like to be upstaged. Beto as the VP candidate will make anyone else look like a wall flower. No politician wants their running mate to out shine them. It takes a lot of moxie to think you can run for President and probably a little insanity, no one wants their number two on the ticket to steal the show from them. No one will pick Beto as VP.

by Anonymousreply 425February 15, 2019 12:42 AM

Probably right r425, Beto would be wasted as a VP anyway.

It's the top spot or nothing for him.

The people pumping up Beto here can't articulate a single thing they like about him. Of course they just find him very attractive and think that's enough to be president. And they assume the rest of America is as shallow as they are

by Anonymousreply 433February 15, 2019 1:34 AM

r433, I like his enthusiasm; i like his optimism, I like his positivity, I like the way he explains thiings.

I also like his apparent kindness and compassion.

And sue me, but I also like the way he looks.

by Anonymousreply 434February 15, 2019 1:37 AM

R433, I agree with R434.

I see him as sincere, empathetic, and a hard worker. I also like that he's younger.

by Anonymousreply 435February 15, 2019 1:43 AM

R433 Beto has an "it fact" that a lot of people see. The "it fact" is hard to describe, Pres Obama had it and unfortunately a lot of people vote on whether they feel good about a candidate without knowing much of what the candidate wants to do. Not everyone will feel that "it factor" with Beto, apparently you don't, but a lot of people do. Beto isn't quite like anyone else, he doesn't talk like most politicians. Most politicians make my eyes glaze over, Beto doesn't. I haven't decided yet who I would support. If I had the power to appoint the next President it would probably either be Warren or Booker, but I want someone who will win.

That is why Trump got elected, he wasn't like anyone else and while I would never vote for that turd Trump, I can see why some people would the first time, voting for him again I am having more a problem understanding.

by Anonymousreply 436February 15, 2019 1:52 AM

People have stated multiple reasons for supporting Beto, R433. He's well-spoken, charismatic, and able to make a connection with people, and he definitely has the "it" factor. I suppose you're the Warren loon.

by Anonymousreply 437February 15, 2019 1:55 AM

Beto held almost 400 Town Halls in every county and city in Texas over an 18 month period. You ever hear of anybody else doing that? He's got nuclear batteries, boundless energy and enthusiasm and he makes people enthusiastic. He's an exceptional public speaker - Obamaesque. But he avoids appearing professorial which was Obama's downfall with working class people. Beto is more - like Bill Clinton - capable of discussing complicated, abstract concepts without making the audience feel like idiots. He can make you laugh, make you cry and make you fall in love with him all at the same time. Nobody else comes close.

The NY Times article about his years in New York was interesting. He's still close to all his old friends, even his ex-girlfriends. His ex-flatmates said it was always Beto they'd send out when they had to talk to somebody in the working class, multi-ethnic neighborhood, he got along with everybody. Too much so: Beto became friendly with the building's janitor and the janitor was always asking Beto for help. His flatmates got a free toilet out of it though.

by Anonymousreply 438February 15, 2019 1:55 AM

You either have "it" or you don't, and Beto most definitely has "it".

by Anonymousreply 439February 15, 2019 2:07 AM

Hillary was more qualified and had far more experience than JFK, Bill or Barack - but she didn't have 'it'. Neither did Al Gore.

by Anonymousreply 440February 15, 2019 2:11 AM

And if a Democrat doesn't have "it" they don't get the voter turnout in the places they need it to win the EC.

by Anonymousreply 441February 15, 2019 2:17 AM

Jake Tapper did hail Beto a superstar for nearly flipping Texas blue. But with Stacey Abrams who did exactly the same, he repeatedly reminded the panel that “she lost”. It happened.

by Anonymousreply 442February 15, 2019 3:10 AM

Jake Tapper's as big an asshole as Chuck Todd.

by Anonymousreply 443February 15, 2019 3:14 AM

And I've got it. Mama? Mama? Mama's gonna sock it to ya.

by Anonymousreply 444February 15, 2019 3:19 AM

You've got it r441

by Anonymousreply 445February 15, 2019 3:31 AM

He just killed any chance of winning tonight. You can't say stuff like "Absolutely. I’d take the [El Paso border] wall down"...that just isn't going to fly with most people.

by Anonymousreply 446February 15, 2019 4:12 AM

Do people finally fucking understand what Beto has now?

No? Then read R438 again. Those are the reasons why Beto can win both the nomination and the Presidency. This has been obvious for months now.

Please stop the stupid naysaying.

by Anonymousreply 447February 15, 2019 4:14 AM

r446, Get over it already. He's going to run and he stands a decent to good chance of being the nominee.

Deal with it.

by Anonymousreply 448February 15, 2019 4:18 AM

“When you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do whatever you want. You can grab em by the pussy.”

—DJT, losing the Presidency in 2016 with that quote because that just didn’t fly with most people

by Anonymousreply 449February 15, 2019 4:19 AM

You're delusional if you think any candidate calling for the remove of existing border walls will win. This isn't going to be a winning issue for Democrats and will only help reelect Trump.

by Anonymousreply 450February 15, 2019 4:21 AM

R449, in case you haven't figured it out, Democrats are not Republicans. Republicans are stupid fucking lemmings.

by Anonymousreply 451February 15, 2019 4:21 AM

Don't quit your day job r450.

by Anonymousreply 452February 15, 2019 4:24 AM

Blocking you now, R450.

by Anonymousreply 453February 15, 2019 4:25 AM

Are you kidding me? I just got rid of one Messican, now I need to get rid of two more? Well, one is a fake Messican, but still...

by Anonymousreply 454February 15, 2019 4:40 AM

The El Paso fence serves no useful purpose. Crime was low before it was put up in 2008, went up a couple of years after it was put up and then went down again. It's an eyesore and that's it.

by Anonymousreply 455February 15, 2019 4:46 AM

r446, if what Beto says now would really have an effect on his chances of winning in November 2020, then what Richard Nixon may or may not have said in FEBRUARY 1967! would have had some impact on his chances of winning in November 1968.

In other words, you're all wet if you think Beto is finished now for what he said tonight.

by Anonymousreply 456February 15, 2019 4:51 AM

He would be my #1 choice for Dem Pres candidate.

by Anonymousreply 457February 15, 2019 4:52 AM

From R446 link:

Hayes said to him that it sounds like he doesn’t think any of the security that has been put in place at the border since 9/11 has been good for the country, and O’Rourke agreed.

“It’s perverse,” said O’Rourke.

Security at our borders is "perverse"? Do I have that right?

by Anonymousreply 458February 15, 2019 5:04 AM

Separating children from their parents; kids dying in detention; children caged; arresting people for speaking Spanish near the border; militarizing the border. All those things are indeed "perverse."

by Anonymousreply 459February 15, 2019 5:10 AM

I love Beto.

Fuck the anti-Beto troll

by Anonymousreply 460February 15, 2019 5:12 AM

Will the BetoBoys vote for Trump if he doesn't get the nod like the BernBros did?

by Anonymousreply 461February 15, 2019 5:16 AM

Seeing as Beto is a real Democrat and not a Ruskie agent like Bernie was, and continues to be, I have a hard time believing real Democrats will be voting for Trump if Beto/Kamala/others lose in the primaries.

by Anonymousreply 462February 15, 2019 5:41 AM

No, fucking moron @ R461.

by Anonymousreply 463February 15, 2019 6:23 AM

R461, I plan to vote for whoever gets the (D) nomination. Anything to get Trump out of office. That said, Beto is my preferred choice.

by Anonymousreply 464February 15, 2019 6:29 AM

r458 is desperately trying to make what Beto said last night as big a gaffe as what Kamala said about health care a few weeks ago.

Not even close, but you do you.

by Anonymousreply 465February 15, 2019 12:15 PM

r461, what you don't seem to understand is that unlike some of the Berniebros of 2016, most of us Beto people are loyal Democrats, and we'd rather eat feces that ever vote for that Orange Cretin.

If Beto doesn't run or runs but doesn't win, most of us will have no problem voting for the eventual Democratic nominee.

Can you say the same?

Beto has "it" but so did Carter when he was running for president. Both have the same type of heart as well: earnest, tender, compassionate, kind, etc.

But um fucking Russia is trying to kill us. So maybe he's best in another high position in the government.

by Anonymousreply 468February 15, 2019 2:49 PM

The anti-Beto troll is a part of Parscale's troll farm, trashing every Democrat who is a threat to Trump and Beto is a major threat.

Beto and Chris Hayes went to Willie's concert afterwards and were photographed with Willie in his bus. Beto also played guitar with Willie. That's as Texas as Texas gets.

by Anonymousreply 469February 15, 2019 3:13 PM

[quote] The anti-Beto troll is a part of Parscale's troll farm

R469, are you with the intelligence community? A journalist? Just wondering, since you sound like you know what you're talking about (unlike many others here).

by Anonymousreply 470February 15, 2019 3:15 PM

I imagine the trollfarms are trying to coin the "Betoboys" ( I rather they go for Betogays myself) as a way to tarnish his candidacy.

Sorry trolls, Democrats have their favorites, but they will all fall in line once a nominee is elected.

by Anonymousreply 471February 15, 2019 3:20 PM

Go on twitter. Parscale launched a massive attack on Beto a week ago. He overruns Beto's twitterfeed with bots. You can spot the bots easily. Old twitter accounts with few followers. When the accounts have too many followers, the bot detector picks up on them (because of all the fake accounts following it). He lost a lot of the troll farm because of it. Beto is absolutely Parscale's Number 1 target which means they consider Beto the biggest threat to Trump.

There were also massive attacks by Russian troll farms on Beto during the Texas Senate campaign. Both Cruz and Trump gave millions to Cambridge Analytica. Parscale - Trump's campaign manager now - was the point man at Cambridge Analytica.

by Anonymousreply 472February 15, 2019 3:22 PM

[quote]earnest, tender, compassionate, kind, etc.

Mary! I'm a Beto supporter, but this kind of talk isn't going to win him any votes with men in WI, MI, PA. They don't respond well to tender and kind.

by Anonymousreply 474February 15, 2019 3:28 PM

R474, I'm just noting that that's how he comes across. And you're right — it won't connect with men in those states. That's kind of the problem.

by Anonymousreply 475February 15, 2019 3:30 PM

[quote]They don't respond well to tender and kind.

Oh, we all know this too well...they also don't like women.

The Bros voted for Trump in 2016. Thankfully, Arizona and North Carolina will also be in play for Beto and Harris.

by Anonymousreply 476February 15, 2019 3:37 PM

Say the SDNY's investigations of the Trump Org, Trump Foundation, Trump Inaugural Committee, and Trump himself are ongoing in January 2021, and there's a new Democratic president.

Not that any of the Dem candidates are sure to do so, but ask "Who's most likely among all of them to ask a new Attorney General to drop one or more of the investigations of Trump's affairs, in the name of 'national healing"?"

Who'd make that very grand conciliatory gesture for a higher ideal despite the Dem base's outrage?

Who'd stand above it all, to go with what his/her heart says is the right thing to do?

Say you had to choose one of the Dem candidates (or prospective candidates).

...

Yeah, I think you're right.

by Anonymousreply 477February 15, 2019 3:39 PM

Beto's giving a speech in Madison, Wisconsin today at the University. Tomorrow he gives the keynote speech at the United States Hispanic Leadership Conference in Chicago. Hope he gives the whole speech in Spanish just to piss off the Trumpniks.

by Anonymousreply 478February 15, 2019 3:40 PM

Which candidate is most likely to encourage the DOJ to doggedly investigate and prosecute Trump after he leaves office?

by Anonymousreply 479February 15, 2019 3:42 PM

[quote]Which candidate is most likely to encourage the DOJ to doggedly investigate and prosecute Trump after he leaves office?

Beto, Julian Castro, and Kamala Harris

by Anonymousreply 480February 15, 2019 4:08 PM

[quote]Not that any of the Dem candidates are sure to do so, but ask "Who's most likely among all of them to ask a new Attorney General to drop one or more of the investigations of Trump's affairs, in the name of 'national healing"?"

None of them would that. National healing? What the...?

Please fuck off with your pointed Beto-doubt-sowing. You are a troll for Trump, right? Blocking you now, too.

by Anonymousreply 481February 15, 2019 4:36 PM

LOL, R481 is a low-information voter.

by Anonymousreply 482February 15, 2019 4:49 PM

R481 answered a hypothetical question and freaked out!

by Anonymousreply 483February 15, 2019 4:55 PM

Beto's the candidate who got millennials off their asses and to the polls in Texas. He can do it for the whole US too.

by Anonymousreply 484February 15, 2019 4:59 PM

If Millennials are stupid enough to sit this one out if they aren't "in love" with the Democratic candidate, they should be stripped of their rights to vote in all future elections.

And, the people like me who are questioning the fawning over Beto are trying to point out just that. You are fawning over him. There is very little concrete any of you can point to other than "he has it!" as to why you are jumping on his bandwagon before he's even announced anything. It is all very much like the start of the Bernie cult. Beto is a centrist who lost his state-wide election and then went on a very strange little road trip where he seemed a little mentally off. I think his speaking style is strange in its cadence. I don't think he has any real accomplishments to point to, either. So, make your fucking case or stop pretending everyone that isn't besotted with Beto is a troll.

by Anonymousreply 488February 15, 2019 10:50 PM

Then everybody outside of Texas is a moron.

It's not that hard.

by Anonymousreply 489February 15, 2019 11:14 PM

The reason to support Beto is because he is a rock star. He can get people, especially young people and women, to the polls. He is a BABE. As for his policies—who cares? He’s a Democrat. On some issues people consider him too far left (by the Trump loving nutjobs), on other issues he’s seen as too far right (by the BernOut losers). He’s basically a centrist, which is fine. He hasn’t lain out his platform yet because HE HASN’T ANNOUNCED HE'S RUNNING yet. I imagine he’ll set up a new website with his *national* policy proposals outlined there in the future, and then you can nitpick all you want.

In the meantime, all that matters is his ability to connect with voters and charm people into the voting booths. He’s like a Kennedy or Obama. That is ALL THAT MATTERS.

Oh and look, the anti-Beto troll @ r485 whom I had already blocked, is back posting under a different IP address.

Blocking you again, and again, and again if I have to.

by Anonymousreply 490February 15, 2019 11:45 PM

I would not especially mind if Beto became the dem nominee and I agree he's hot. But I just think there's more to being a good president than being likable. Maybe I am old fashioned.

by Anonymousreply 491February 16, 2019 12:01 AM

Do you honestly believe that likability is the ONLY thing going for him, R491?! You need to listen to what he says more, apparently.

by Anonymousreply 492February 16, 2019 12:19 AM

Tell us what is so worth hearing, R492, please.

by Anonymousreply 493February 16, 2019 12:32 AM

Did you watch either of his debates, R493 (including the one where it was just him)? He's a thoughtful, intelligent, person.

by Anonymousreply 494February 16, 2019 12:44 AM

R494 I loved the 'debate' he had on CNN when Ted Cruz refused to go thinking CNN would cancel if the Mighty Rafael didn't show. When CNN decided to go ahead with the Town Hall with Beto, Cruz went berserk and tried to get back in but CNN was pissed off and told him to go away. He had his chance, he wanted to dictate the terms: he wanted to be allowed to approve any questions asked him beforehand, half the audience had to be supporters and staff of his. He fucked that up. He refused to do it in the Rio Grande Valley (too many Democrats), etc.

by Anonymousreply 495February 16, 2019 1:58 AM

I still see Beto as a Veep for 2020, and I think he wouldn't upstage Harris or maybe Klobuchar. Possibly Biden, but Biden's so old now.

But IF Beto were to get the Prexy nomination, who would be a good Veep for him? Does he need to go with an older white man, or could he pick Harris or Warren or Klobuchar?

by Anonymousreply 496February 16, 2019 2:18 AM

Older white men? Are you kidding, R496? There should be no older white men not only on the ticket but even speaking at the convention. Beto will choose a woman running mate.

by Anonymousreply 497February 16, 2019 2:23 AM

OK. The ticket I could see: Beto as Prez and....wait for it...Melinda Gates as Veep. She's brilliant and for the past 2 decades has spent her time on philanthropy, working with foreign governments, the UN, WHO, NGOs etc. She has more foreign policy experience than any of the Senators chasing the nom.

The Gates were on Stephen Colbert and he asked them flat out if they were going to run. They said no. Melinda also said that while philanthopy helps, it can't replace a strong tax base and they are in favor of increasing taxes and also increasing the death taxes Trump got rid of. Their kids will not be a rich. If she were chosen as Veep she wouldn't need to run for President, as Veep her hands-on knowledge of developing countries, women's issues, etc. would be stronger than any of the politicians.

by Anonymousreply 498February 16, 2019 2:30 AM

See Beto’s Instagram post tonight about today’s visit to Wisconsin. Doesn’t sound like the words of someone who’s weighing another SENATE run.

See you soon, r404/406/392/398.

For our Garrett Haake-doubting friend up thread, who thinks Beto is likely pursuing a Senate challenge to John Cornyn, and who prefers his Beto news to come from Politico...

From Politico:

Beto O’Rourke in talks with strategists ahead of likely 2020 bid By DAVID SIDERS 02/15/2019 05:21 PM EST Beto O’Rourke is in talks with Democratic strategists about a likely 2020 presidential run, according to two sources.

Two Democratic campaign strategists told POLITICO on Friday that they are in discussions with O’Rourke and his team. One of the strategists described those conversations as moving to “an operational level” after weeks of discussing 2020 in more theoretical terms.

But after a massive rally in his hometown of El Paso this week, O’Rourke is now becoming personally involved in discussions about the shape of a 2020 campaign, the strategists said.

O’Rourke became a Democratic sensation during his closer-than-expected Texas Senate run last year. He has said he will decide whether to run for president by the end of February, and he has appeared to tilt closer to a run in recent days.

On Monday, O’Rourke drew thousands of supporters to the march and rally in El Paso to protest President Donald Trump’s call for funding a border wall. He appeared Thursday on MSNBC to discuss border politics. And on Friday, O’Rourke used his Senate campaign account to email supporters a preview of his recent interview with Oprah Winfrey, which airs on Saturday.

Meanwhile, O’Rourke is traveling in the Midwest. He is expected to visit privately with students at University of Wisconsin, Madison today, before speaking Saturday at a national conference of the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute.

R404 and R406, I dedicate the article @ R502 just to you.

by Anonymousreply 503February 16, 2019 4:20 AM

R490, dear, I've never changed my IP address. And, you're an idiot if you don't think policy positions matter. Like I said, you are just as bad as the BernBros who went, "ooh, free stuff!" and didn't bother to even see that there were no concrete policies to accomplish that free stuff. The problem with people acting like this with a candidate, especially this early, is that they become bitter when they don't get their way. This is exactly the way the Bernbros started and the 12% of them that went on to vote for Trump added to the percentage that didn't bother to vote at all because they didn't get their way helped give Trump the White House. So, maybe wait until he announces and stop shitting on all the other candidates because the cult you help build might give us Trump or Pence again in 2020.

by Anonymousreply 504February 16, 2019 6:14 AM

Oh, my! Beto O’Rourke’s supporters appear to be cut from the exact same cloth as Bernie bros. Not as big as ‘feel the Bern’ movement, but similarly cult-like, nevertheless. I see a lot of tears and hair pulling when Beto invetably crashes out of the primaries, as voters opt for smarter or more experienced candidates. Then the threats to stay home , sabotage the nominee or vote for Trump. I’ll be linking to this thread everytime it happens.

Prediction it’s going to be between Biden, Harris and Warren with Niden eventually squeaking through.

by Anonymousreply 511February 16, 2019 10:38 AM

You are completely wrong, asshole @ r511. We are nothing like the BernOuts. We will vote for whoever wins the primary but we happen to prefer Beto and see him as the tallest and most charismatic candidate and therefore most likely nominee, but we could be wrong. None of us are so stupid as to sit out an election where we know the fate of our country hangs in the balance. Remember, Beto is a centrist candidate—only far left loons like Bernie/Tulsi/Stein voters stay home in protest.

Guess you won’t be linking to this thread, ever.

by Anonymousreply 512February 16, 2019 11:34 AM

[quote] see him as the tallest and most charismatic candidate

This is the central tension between Beto's supporters here. Everyone agrees he's hot. Some people just want more out of a president

[quote]Oh, my! Beto O’Rourke’s supporters appear to be cut from the exact same cloth as Hillary's pantsuits.

by Anonymousreply 520February 16, 2019 3:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 522February 16, 2019 4:19 PM

by Anonymousreply 524February 16, 2019 4:31 PM

I think that douche Logan Paul is hot. Should I support him for president? Most of you think that's all it takes

by Anonymousreply 525February 16, 2019 4:48 PM

by Anonymousreply 526February 16, 2019 4:56 PM

Nobody "needs" to be president. Beto has charisma, appeals to a wide variety of voters, and has proven that he can drum up support in red states while still appealing to progressives. People may not like it, but all that stuff is just as important as having perfectly articulated, ideologically rigorous positions on everything.

by Anonymousreply 527February 16, 2019 4:58 PM

The Beto haters are beyond tedious here. Beto has the ‘It’ factor. That’s all that matters. If he runs, he wins. Blocking all the naysayers now. Please, no further comments.

by Anonymousreply 528February 16, 2019 5:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 530February 16, 2019 5:27 PM

Beto just made a barnburner of a speech at the Hispanic Institute Conference in Chicago. The crowd went wild. He's the best public speaker we have. He can move an audience and reduce them to tears. He was magnificent.

R521, we're not comparing BernBros to BetoBoys ideologically. We're comparing them because they are strident for no fucking reason and can't give actual reasons beyond "ooh, charisma!" or "it" as reasons to support him. And I have no problem believing if someone else gets the nomination, they will pout about it to the point of staying home. Since they are already centrists, the leap to voting for Trump or sitting out would be even less of a leap than the Bernbros who had to contort themselves into pretzel shaped hypocrites to go from Bernie to Trump.

by Anonymousreply 535February 16, 2019 9:54 PM

[quote] People though Bill C and Obama were hot. Women voted for Obama because he was cute. Like abortion(and the reasons for having one), anyone can choose why they vote for a candidate, good or bad

Of course, looks aren't everything but if it can help kick out Trump and the Rethugs out of power, go for it. Unfortunately, a vast majority of the populace do not read policy, they see charisma and jobs.

Do you guys know about the debate between JFK and Nixon? Those debates won the Presidency for JFK. Nixon was the VP to Eisenhower and had every advantage to win but the debates made him an overnight loser. JFK came across more energetic, more handsome and YOUTHFUL. Now imagine Beto vs Trump in the debates. Plus Beto is taller and has an earnestness about him, like a Jimmy Stewart type quality, that contrasts to Trump, the greatest conman in history..

by Anonymousreply 536February 16, 2019 9:55 PM

I see no evidence of any of the shit you're railing against R533. To me the relevant comparison is to Obama. There may have been an Obama cult, but it also got him elected twice. I'm fine with that kind of cult.

by Anonymousreply 537February 16, 2019 9:57 PM

R535, he ran in the Reddest part of the country but he lost by a very small margin. I also think there was cheating with the machines and it should have been investigated.

by Anonymousreply 538February 16, 2019 9:59 PM

R536 Did Kennedy really win that election? The vote was cooked in Illinois, Texas and West Virginia for him. So that is a bad example. BTW don't be so pedantic. People who heard the debate on the radio said Nixon won. Those who saw it on TV claimed Kennedy won.

In addition, Trump is one ugly, crazy and nasty cunt but he won. Robert is not his match but Uncle Joe is. Robert for VP.

by Anonymousreply 539February 16, 2019 10:06 PM

But, R537, the comparison would be to the early BernBros. They hadn't yet lost their damn minds. That didn't happen until it was clear he lost. Then, the crazy showed up. No one would have predicted that 12% of them would turn and vote for Trump when it all started. In fact, seeing as Bernie was far left, it was actually shocking. And, there's no telling how many of them just stayed home. The nascent BetoBoy cult looks like the nascent BernBro cult looked in late 2015 and early 2016. They are already completely wrapped up in Beto and he hasn't even announced yet. It's a love affair and it will end badly if they don't get their envisioned outcome.

As to comparing them to Obama supporters, cult-like or not, you would have to imagine what they would have done if he had lost the primary to Hillary. I have zero doubt that they would have acted the exact same way as the BernBros acted. It's a trait of cults which is why the formation of any kind of BetoBoys cult needs to be stopped now.

R539, if the Democrats are stupid enough to put two white males on the ticket, they will lose. Especially if Trump drops Pence for Niki Haley or if Trump is gone and Pence runs with Haley. Or, if they are both gone and Haley runs herself. Women are done with the Democratic party shitting on them. Did you happen to pay attention to what happened in 2018's election?

by Anonymousreply 540February 16, 2019 10:08 PM

You could say all that about Hillary supporters too R540. Remember the PUMAs? At a certain point all this is counterproductive. I just haven't seen any evidence of a "BetoBoy" cult on the scale of Bernie's. Guessing that one will form is pointless.

by Anonymousreply 541February 16, 2019 10:16 PM

Someone who is imagining a BetoBoy cult has an active imagination. Or they're a BernieBros or Russian troll.

by Anonymousreply 542February 16, 2019 10:20 PM

Beto-BROS? I've been to his Town Halls and they're full of college girls having orgasms while he speaks.

by Anonymousreply 543February 16, 2019 10:23 PM

Robert has female fans ? That's a start for ROR. It can't hurt for Robert though his wider popularity is not known yet. Then again those same college girls went nuts over Bernie...

by Anonymousreply 544February 16, 2019 10:26 PM

If it surprises you that Beto has female fans, you're really not a great analyst of these things. My biggest misgiving at this point is that he seems a little reticent about the presidency in a way that he wasn't during the senate run. But it also comes across as an appealing modesty (as long as he doesn't take it too far).

by Anonymousreply 545February 16, 2019 10:36 PM

[quote]But, the comparison would be to the early BernBros.

LOL, I love how this troll pretends like the BernBros were ever sane. Hon, no one outside of you believes the Bernos were ever normal. Even the female Bernbros were nasty pieces of shit who happily threw women's rights under the bus in order to flick their bean to Bernie.

Real Democrats, like Harris and O'Rourke, don't have followers that middle with misogyny and racism like the Bernos...

by Anonymousreply 546February 16, 2019 10:45 PM

R545 I was being sarcastic you twit. You're that beguiled by Robert? If you are you have some fucking big blinders on. Despite his misgivings he would make a decent VP because of swallow things like his looks etc so on. However nothing more than that. Trump would eat him alive. Uncle Joe would go toe to toe with Dump though.

by Anonymousreply 547February 16, 2019 10:52 PM

Beto lost by just 2 points in a deep red state. Bernie, Kamala, Gillibrand, Warren have all been running in deep blue states. Kamala didn't even have a Republican opponent in 2016.

by Anonymousreply 548February 16, 2019 10:53 PM

I find all the focus on Beto's looks to be hugely off-putting. If his appeal is that shallow I think he will have a difficult time attracting serious people. I don't care how charismatic he is - do we really want a glib pretty-boy as President?

by Anonymousreply 549February 16, 2019 11:14 PM

Yesterday Julian Castro addressed the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute’s National Conference. Today, Beto did. Julian flopped and Beto set the place on fire.

by Anonymousreply 550February 16, 2019 11:23 PM

If I might add to what I posted above, if Beto is the nominee I will vote for him. Even a pretty-boy is better than the alternative.

by Anonymousreply 551February 16, 2019 11:26 PM

This "glib pretty boy" is a passionate campaigner and a politician who isn't afraid to be a liberal. People (meaning Dem primary voters) respond to passion, conviction and integrity.

[quote]He can't even beat the much hat Ted Cruz.

Cruz s hated in DC. The elections were in TEXAS. Learn the difference.

by Anonymousreply 552February 16, 2019 11:31 PM

I'm not sure in this day and age whether Annie Liebovitz strikes the right note.

by Anonymousreply 553February 16, 2019 11:33 PM

Leibovitz actually got her start covering the Nixon campaign for Rolling Stone. Rock musicians came much later.

by Anonymousreply 554February 16, 2019 11:37 PM

Regardless of where they are based, the trolls are running heavy on this thread. It takes multiple blocks.

by Anonymousreply 555February 16, 2019 11:38 PM

Well, Nixon is nothing but a good news story so rock on Beto.

I'm sorry... Annie, Oprah... he seems to be running the Clinton campaign and we know how that ends.

by Anonymousreply 556February 16, 2019 11:44 PM

I wonder if the other Castro brother, Juaquin, is eyeing the Senate seat in 2020. You know deep down he is wishing Beto and his brother kill each other in the presidential race so that he has a clear path to the Senate seat.

by Anonymousreply 557February 16, 2019 11:55 PM

" if the Democrats are stupid enough to put two white males on the ticket, they will lose. "

I was thinking about this. We have 3 qualified women running for the spot (Warren, Harris, Klobuchar) and possibly others announcing in the near future. I'm wondering how women will react if all of these women are cast aside or displaced to the VP spot so a male can take the P spot.

by Anonymousreply 558February 16, 2019 11:57 PM

I think Beto was the only candidate not to mention Jussie I guess he dodged a bullet on that one.

by Anonymousreply 559February 17, 2019 1:27 AM

Did Klobuchar say anything? I haven't seen her quoted anywhere.

by Anonymousreply 560February 17, 2019 1:38 AM

R523 = Jake Tapper

by Anonymousreply 561February 17, 2019 1:43 AM

Just watched Oprah's Show. Yes. Beto for Prez, Melinda Gates for Veep.

by Anonymousreply 562February 17, 2019 2:55 AM

[quote] Did Kennedy really win that election? The vote was cooked in Illinois, Texas and West Virginia for him. So that is a bad example. BTW don't be so pedantic. People who heard the debate on the radio said Nixon won. Those who saw it on TV claimed Kennedy won.

This is not a bad example. It was the first time that the Presidential debates were aired on tv. JFK's physical presence and charisma on tv won him the election. Nixon looked sick, tired and shifty. A younger male with good looks and an earnest demeanor vs an old fucked Trump -- this is a no-brainer.

by Anonymousreply 563February 17, 2019 6:38 AM

Holy fuck, the trolls on this thread. The one who keeps calling him “Robert” is not a Democrat and is particularly onerous.

[quote]I'm sorry... Annie, Oprah... he seems to be running the Clinton campaign and we know how that ends.

Yeah, or maybe the OBAMA campaign, you daft cunt.

So many mischaracterizations. The stench of desperation coming from you trolls is putrid as fuck. You’re not going to convince anyone here who’s inclined to vote for Beto to *not* vote for him. I know you’re desperate for Uncle Grabby Gaffe Machine to run against Trump, or the far less appealing Kamala, or Klobuchar, or whoever the fuck else, but you’re stuck with beautiful Beto, all 6 feet 5 inches of his studliness. So sorry. You lose, and so does Trump.

by Anonymousreply 564February 17, 2019 7:01 AM

[quote]all 6 feet 5 inches of his studliness.

And don't forget all 9.5 inches of thick manhood!

by Anonymousreply 565February 17, 2019 8:35 AM

Thanks to the posters who sent me to watch the debates. I get the appeal is more than aesthetic now, thank you!

by Anonymousreply 566February 17, 2019 8:43 AM

So I guess by supporting him, I'm a BetoBoy? Oh well, I guess I'm all in then.

by Anonymousreply 567February 17, 2019 8:57 AM

Thank goodness Trump is a hideous lard. This board would be unbearable if he was hot

by Anonymousreply 568February 17, 2019 12:15 PM

r558, unless we have a brokered convention (whiich seems highly unlikely in 2020), there will be a clear winner of the primaries who will get the nomination at the convention. If that is one of those women, rest assured, they will be the nominee. There will be no displacing of a woman with a man if the woman is the clear winner.

What could happen if one of those women doesn't win the nomination is that one of those women could be picked for the VP slot by the eventual winner, but that's not quite the same thing.

by Anonymousreply 569February 17, 2019 12:18 PM

You're a towering intellect, R564.

by Anonymousreply 570February 17, 2019 12:26 PM

R564, the Clinton campaign followed the Obama campaign. Times change. Tenors change. The electorate changes. You may have noticed the last candidate elected president. He may not have carried the popular vote but he won in all the right places. He had nothing to do with Oprah or Annie or anything flash. And who's in the White House? Good thing you're not a political strategist, though I imagine you run a zealous fan club. Sad little angry fan gurl. Beto doesn't know who you are.

by Anonymousreply 571February 17, 2019 12:30 PM

R564 Yes I am a Democrat you asshole. The man's real first name is Robert not Beto. Thank God President Obama went by Barack instead of Barry(like he did in his younger days). BTW I call Trump ever fucking name in the book because he is a nasty fucking cunt. He doesn't belong in the White house. I also believe that Crazy Uncle Joe is the only one who can go toe to toe with him. O'Rourke will be eviscerated by Dump. Biden for Pres, Robert for VP. That is a winning ticket.

6) massive cock

7) handsome

by Anonymousreply 573February 17, 2019 4:25 PM

NOW we’re talking, R573!

R572, I’ve never encountered another actual democrat who insisted on calling Beto ‘Robert’. He has always been ‘Beto’ throughout his political career, and that isn’t going to change. The only people I’ve seen who insist on calling him Robert are Trump voters online. And you.

And I have no idea why you think Trump would “eviscerate” Beto but not Biden. He has already started in on both of them, and so far he’s had *nothing* bad to say about Beto! All he’s done is lie about the number of people at Beto’s march, which surpassed the crowd at Trump’s wall rally speech. What is it that you think Trump would say about Beto? And do you really think in a debate, stood next to each other on a stage, Beto wouldn’t make Trump look like the demented, clueless, obese, old piece of shit that he is? And you think that wouldn’t count for something?

Do you think this comes down to Beto being perceived as a beta male in rust belt states, or something?

by Anonymousreply 574February 17, 2019 5:26 PM

I’m guessing you ARE a Democratic strategist. So who’s your pick, and why?

by Anonymousreply 575February 17, 2019 5:27 PM

Yeah, Robert or Francis is what the Cruz trolls called Beto throughout the Texas Senate campaign. They seem to think 'Francis' is a woman's name. But they never called Lyin' Ted Rafael.

by Anonymousreply 578February 18, 2019 1:06 AM

^ the quote was one of the saddest things I've seen on DL. I know a lot of posters have a hard time discerning between politics and TV talent shows, but that was bad even for the modest intelligence here.

by Anonymousreply 579February 18, 2019 1:08 AM

Beto just has some people dickmatized. They have lost all ability to be reasoned with.

by Anonymousreply 580February 18, 2019 1:17 AM

I just saw a pic of Beto with Joaquin Castro. Castro comes up to his shoulder. How short are the Castro twins?

by Anonymousreply 581February 18, 2019 1:30 AM

Really think the anti-Beto brigade should tell us who they prefer and why. The person droning on about "Uncle Joe" and "Robert" is exempt for obvious reasons.

by Anonymousreply 582February 18, 2019 1:34 AM

Apart from the Bernie Bros, only paid trolls are anti-Beto. See how they also do the same for Kamala, Amy, and Elizabeth Warren? They don’t necessarily have something to criticize about the person. They just complain because they want to turn people against each other.

by Anonymousreply 583February 18, 2019 1:40 AM

I am far from anti-Beto. He impressed me in the Texas senate campaign. I think he needs seasoning. A term or two as VP would do it . I don't know who the candidate should be. The winning centrist. I know that's anathema here but only a centrist can carry the day. America is caught in a vice. You are asking a big chunk of people to accept - for them - the American dream is over. The Democrats are far better poised to manage the aftermath, but it's a big ship to turn. So many of you think there's a progressive messiah. There isn't. You refuse to grasp the reality of the country. It's now a third world country with fresh paint. And, sadly, generally satisfied with it for some mysterious reason.

by Anonymousreply 584February 18, 2019 1:43 AM

Nonsense, R584.

And, it's not that people are anti-Beto. They are anti-Betofanboys. We've seen this crap before. Why don't you explain why you dislike all the other candidates who have already announced and try to do it without having 'they don't have a big dick' or 'they're not hot' as one of your reasons. If anyone else was going on and on about any other candidate the way many of you are going on about Beto, you'd think they were nuts. What are you going to do if he doesn't run?

by Anonymousreply 585February 18, 2019 3:33 AM

I'm probably one of the so called "anti Beto trolls"

I would support a wide range of options for the nomination. Including Beto. He's just at the very bottom of that list for me. My top choices are Kamala, Warren, or Booker. I would be ecstatic to vote for any of three of them.

All three of them have been very clear on why they want to run and how they could make the country better than it was before. Beto has just been stumbling around aimlessly since he lost. Not like Stacey Abrams even who has been far more productive since her narrow loss.

I genuinely don't believe Beto would ever consider running for president in his own and all the pressure is coming from people around him pumping him up.

He doesn't seem to have any grand vision for the US he wants to enact. I think hes a good person, but not the type who should be leading a country.

by Anonymousreply 586February 18, 2019 3:35 AM

You're deluded, R585. I'm not that into him. Read carefully.

by Anonymousreply 587February 18, 2019 3:35 AM

R587, the only part of my comment aimed at you was the part addressed to you. Nonsense was all the reply your idiotic post required. The rest of the post was replying to the rest of the thread. Narcissist much?

by Anonymousreply 588February 18, 2019 3:38 AM

R584, Beto IS going to be the winning centrist.

It’s so odd how, months ago, when we were wondering what would happen if Beto lost his Senate race, and then after he did, so many of us could see with no difficulty whatsoever that Beto was the most charismatic Democratic prospect; no one else came close. He was a fundraising rock star, a charismatic throwback to Bobby Kennedy and Bill Clinton and Obama. He could actually get the fucking MIllennials out to vote.

And now that the race has begun, and conservatives are more aware of him and the threat he poses, suddenly we’re supposed to believe that Kamala, Biden, Klobuchar, and Warren are all *more electable* as President than Beto. For no good reason, we’re supposed to come around to that idea—that Beto is too cute, or too fey, not tough enough, too inclusive, too hopeful, not experienced enough *and* also apparently too dumb to know how to surround himself with advisors and cabinet leaders who ARE experienced?

Or we’re supposed to feel ashamed for thinking he’s cute ... and for making jokes about how we’re gaga for him (apparently some of the anti-Beto people aren’t sophisticated enough to understand that we can simultaneously lust after him and laugh at ourselves for lusting after him). No, we have to vote for a less attractive candidate lest our opponents here think us shallow.

Please keep the negativity coming. It’s all so enlightening.

by Anonymousreply 589February 18, 2019 3:40 AM

The comparison to Stacey Abrams is key. Everything people here say are their reasons for liking Beto apply to her as well. She came extremely close to flipping a solid red state. She has a lot of star power, she was a fundraising juggernaut and got very high marks for her state of the union response. She is charismatic and runs on uplifting, optimistic themes.

The reason many on this thread are so attached to Beto but don't have her on their radar is simple. She is not a tall, handsome man with big dick face. Whether his stans want to admit it or not, that is the driving factor behind their support for him.

by Anonymousreply 590February 18, 2019 3:43 AM

You're a tender little thing R587. And fairly stupid. I suspect all your self doubts are actually accurate insights.

by Anonymousreply 591February 18, 2019 3:44 AM

I don't know if Beto is too cute but his supporters are enough to make you reach for the Gravol.

Another lesson learned... Beto threads are the new Hillary. Avoid.

by Anonymousreply 592February 18, 2019 3:46 AM

Since this question keeps getting asked and the answer keeps getting ignored, I’ll answer it again. What will we do if Beto doesn’t run? We’ll vote for our second favorite. I might go for Biden. I don’t know. I like ALL of them, but for now, all that matters is, WHO IS THE MOST ELECTABLE? Who can “get out the vote”? Who can get MILLENNIALS to vote? Who seems the most likable? Contrary to what some people think, most American voters do NOT want another asshole like Trump. The Trump voters do, of course. But the Trump-triers, who now believe they made a huge mistake, will likely swing back toward someone who’s the opposite of Trump because they’re sick of Trump’s style. I’m talking soft Repubs, independents.

Someone start BETO 2020 v. 2 thread now please.

by Anonymousreply 593February 18, 2019 3:47 AM

R589, are people voting somewhere? He hasn't even fucking announced that he's running. Ever wonder why the media is building him up? Care to ask any kind of reality based questions to make sure nothing fucked up is going on? What's going to happen when the BernBros and the BetoBoys go to war? The media will love reporting on how split and disorganized the Democratic party is.

No one on this thread or anywhere that I've seen is said that they wouldn't vote for Beto if he is the nominee but it sure sounds like those of you "lusting and laughing" about Beto might have a rough time if someone else wins. Stop with the cult-like behavior because it's making you all look crazy.

by Anonymousreply 594February 18, 2019 3:48 AM

You have absolutely no evidence that the Beto fanboys will refuse to vote for someone else if he doesn’t run or someone else wins. We are not Trump voters or BernOuts. Has anyone here said that? Are people voting anywhere yet?

Why are you so invested in tearing down Beto or those of us who like him? I am completely uninterested in the other candidates but I’m not on the threads about them denigrating them and their supporters. I couldn’t care less. I might end up voting for them if I have to (if I can’t have Beto), but I see no point in trying to tear them down.

There is no Beto cult. We will vote for whoever wins the nomination. We’ll pick another Democrat if he doesn’t run. You are way, way too bitter about all of this.

by Anonymousreply 595February 18, 2019 3:56 AM

R595, the BernBros didn't start out crazy either. It got worse and worse over time because they were bitter. I don't think Beto would foment that bitterness like crazy Bernie did, so there's that. If you don't like the comparison to the BernBros, stop acting like them. Remember, there was a point where people still like Bernie but hated his supporters. You guys are quickly getting to that point.

Part 2 is here

by Anonymousreply 597February 18, 2019 4:12 AM

The only place on the Internet I’ve seen someone complaining about Beto supporters and our supposed cultishness, is right here on this thread. One DLer has REALLY had it with Beto supporters.

Beto enthusiasts are NOTHING like BernOuts. There is no comparison. For that comparison to be valid, there would had to have been a primary where Beto lost and his supporters refused to vote for the winning Democratic candidate...and then when the Republican nominee won the presidential election in 2020, we would have to continue harping on about how everyone should have voted for Beto...

We are not like that, and we are not going to be like that.

Please stop with this nonsense.
