You people are sadly deluded. Mueller will fizzle and Trump will be re-elected.

Those Republicans have no shame and dignity. They may act all high almighty but no dirty trick to stay in power is too dirty for them. And they cry like babies when people call them out on their lies and shady dealings.

by Anonymousreply 11November 12, 2018 12:07 PM

LMAO at RIck Scott accusing Bill Nelson of voter fraud.

You would know FRAUD when you see it Rick, wouldn't you?

by Anonymousreply 12November 12, 2018 1:13 PM

I know this isn't the subject of this thread but I just have to post this;

What happened to the DANGEROUS caravan heading for the border that Trump wouldn't stop screaming about before the mid-terms?

Did the "threat" just evaporate once last Tuesday's elections were over?

And now there are troops on the border who will be there waiting for weeks for this "big" "bad" caravan to arrive. All because Trump needed a conspiracy to help his party in the mid-terms.

And his deplorable followers just ate it all up.

I fucking hate these people.

by Anonymousreply 13November 12, 2018 1:18 PM

[quote]And now there are troops on the border who will be there waiting for weeks for this "big" "bad" caravan to arrive. All because Trump needed a conspiracy to help his party in the mid-terms.

It's a disgrace: Troops at the border are sleeping in tents that house 20 soldiers and have no electricity or air conditioning, with some suffering heat exhaustion within days of starting the mission. There's no mess hall — only pre-made "Ready-to-Eat" meals — and the only phone chargers available are attached to "a few generators that power spotlights around the living area." Department of Defense officials worry that if the number of troops increases to 15,000, the cost could be as high as $200 million.

When Trump was suppose to be at the cemetery in France to honor our soldiers...he was meeting with Putin. What a scumbag.

by Anonymousreply 16November 12, 2018 1:58 PM

Well, R16, he actually didn’t. The French asked him not to because it would be a distraction from the ceremonies for the war dead. And Trump was no doubt pissed by that.

by Anonymousreply 17November 12, 2018 2:01 PM

He met with Putin, troll, per Putin boasting about it himself.

Trump skipped the memorial because: 1. He couldn't be first in the motorcade, 2. they grounded the helicopter and he couldn't make a big splashy entrance, 3. he's a fucking fraud and a traitor to the memories of those me and what they fought for and he knows it.

by Anonymousreply 18November 12, 2018 2:08 PM

^R18 Also Trump did not want to be outside in damp weather because of his "hair". Donnie D. even noted such today on Morning Joe.

by Anonymousreply 19November 12, 2018 2:17 PM

Also, he might have used up his finite amount of steps prematurely and started sapping his life force.

by Anonymousreply 20November 12, 2018 2:18 PM

Macron seated them far apart at the dinner because he didn't want them distracting from the purpose of the gathering. That has been established. But the two did manage to get together for a more private meeting very discreetly before the Sunday events. In fact when Trump and Vlad saw one another in public for the thumbs up, I bet it was because Trump probably asked Vlad about something, and Vlad said he had to check and get back to him, but when he gave the thumbs up he was "telling" Trump all was well and they'd move forward. Now WTF that means about the threat of Mueller's investigation, or the Media, or the elections, or trade deals, or whether Trump shared top secret intelligence information, etc. is anyone's guess.

by Anonymousreply 21November 12, 2018 2:28 PM

I do believe something big is going down this week either because indictments are unsealed by some judge, or because Whitaker does something stupid andgets exposed. It's almost inevitable.

by Anonymousreply 22November 12, 2018 2:30 PM

[quote]I don’t know Matt Whitaker, Matt Whitaker worked for Jeff Sessions and he was extremely highly thought of and he still is. But I didn’t know Matt Whitaker.

These self-serving lies just keep gushing out of Trump's festering blabbergob.

by Anonymousreply 23November 12, 2018 2:46 PM

Something is up. Some rumors of new indictments being revealed.

by Anonymousreply 24November 12, 2018 2:54 PM

As of now, Kyrsten Sinema is ahead by 32,000 vote for the Arizona senator race. That would almost put her in the senate seat. I don't think McSaddly can make up the difference now. Hopefully we in Arizona will have a democrat for senator, the first since 1995.

NYT: In North Korea, Missile Bases Suggest a Great Deception

[quote]North Korea is moving ahead with its ballistic missile program at 16 hidden bases that have been identified in new commercial satellite images, a network long known to American intelligence agencies but left undiscussed as President Trump claims to have neutralized the North’s nuclear threat.

[quote]The existence of the ballistic missile bases, which North Korea has never acknowledged, contradicts Mr. Trump’s assertion that his landmark diplomacy is leading to the elimination of a nuclear and missile program that the North had warned could devastate the United States.

I'd laugh if this wasn't about nuclear weapons.

by Anonymousreply 31November 12, 2018 3:59 PM

Oh, look, the incredibly obvious thing that most of us thinking people knew would happen has actually happened.

by Anonymousreply 32November 12, 2018 4:00 PM

No, I refuse to look, make him stop! MAGA?

by Anonymousreply 33November 12, 2018 4:05 PM

Miz Lindz is such a military hawk and has previously delivered ultimatum talk when it comes to N. Korea. But she will not say anything for a long time now, that doesn't sound favorable to Trump.

by Anonymousreply 34November 12, 2018 4:16 PM

From the last thread:

[quote]Nader's House Committee and/or Adam Schiff's House Committee will subpoena Trump's tax returns directly from the IRS and make them available to the media and for the public view. Trump can't stop it. Those return will reveal much. Trump may try to prevent it, but doubtful any court will rule against a Congressional subpoena where there's precedence.. Trump will have a meltdown about it.

It's even better than that. It will be Maxine Waters' House Committee.

by Anonymousreply 35November 12, 2018 4:52 PM

[quote]It's even better than that. It will be Maxine Waters' House Committee.

Comb-overs and wigs will fly!

by Anonymousreply 36November 12, 2018 4:56 PM

Everything Trump and the GOP do is put distractions out there. Oh, look over there! Now, look over there! OMG! Take a look at THAT! They basically turn the political arena into a bloody Las Vegas strip with eye blinding neon signs all over the place where you can't see what's really going on. And the media is willingly playing along, because people must be kept informed about all these distractions for clicks, for ratings, for - well - remaining distracted.

by Anonymousreply 37November 12, 2018 4:56 PM

[quote]And now there are troops on the border

Are there, though?

Ones that weren't there before the Scaravan election concoction?

by Anonymousreply 38November 12, 2018 4:59 PM

it's The Ways & Means Committee that will be subpoenaing Trump's taxes, not Maxine Waters. I forget the guy's name who'll head that but he'll become high-profile starting next year

by Anonymousreply 39November 12, 2018 4:59 PM

Call me crazy, but what if these troops are trapped at the border for the simple reason so they can't be somewhere else? I mean Trump is BFF with Eric Prince, the guy who runs the Blackwater private army business organisation (who's also Betsy Devos' brother). With Trump even the craziest conspiracy theory is possible these days.

Waters will head the Banking Committee, which oversees the IRS. Ways and Means is in charge of tax and budget policy, like Medicare and Social Security.

The other ones to watch out for are also the awesome Elijah Cummings' Oversight Committee, Nadler's Judiciary, and Schiff's intelligence.

by Anonymousreply 43November 12, 2018 5:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 46November 12, 2018 5:14 PM

Well, Trump's most favorite words for the next two years will remain "witch hunt!". Great.

Reporter: Mr. Trump, ...

Trump: Witch hunt! THIS IS A WITCH HUNT!

Reporter: ... ... I didn't ... (even finish my sentence)

Trump: THIS IS A WITCH HUNT!

House Representative: Mr. Trump ...

Trump: Witch Hunt! WITCH HUNT! WIIIIIIITCH HUNT!

by Anonymousreply 47November 12, 2018 5:14 PM

One thing I am really glad about is that they've been perfectly clear they're not going to let corruption go unchecked any more. I know there was some modest stuff done after 2006, like hearings about Valerie Plame and some minor hearings about officials in the Bush administration violating the Hatch Act. But no one wanted the Iraq War to be re-litigated.

This stuff is not being taken lying down.

by Anonymousreply 48November 12, 2018 5:17 PM

by Anonymousreply 52November 12, 2018 5:47 PM

Last night I was at a family birthday party. My brother-in-law, a Foxhead, said that he had friends who were on the dark web--and learned that Guantanamo is being "updated and refurbished" because1) there are about to me massive arrests, and 2) the people who are about to be sent there will undergo military tribunals instead of trials in the US court system.

I asked "Who, the Republicans who conspired with Russia to get Trump elected?"

He was FLOORED--his mouth actually dropped open. Then he said "No, no--they are going to be arresting so many people within the FBI and Justice Department that it will leave our country in shambles."

I could't think of anything to say to that other than to ask about the grandkids.

by Anonymousreply 53November 12, 2018 6:48 PM

[quote]Then he said "No, no--they are going to be arresting so many people within the FBI and Justice Department

Breaking something-something

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 55November 12, 2018 7:07 PM

R53, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that Trump and his co-conspirators will start rounding up dissenters and political "enemies." He's already shown how paranoid and deceitful he is with attacks on the Justice department. His persecution of McCabe was particularly vicious. If he could have thrown him in jail he would have. He likes to "punish" his "enemies." DO I think he'd try to arrest everyone he is concerned about at the DoJ? No. But I will bet you a dollar for a donut, that he has thought about something just as crazy. Your brother-in-law is crazy....but he isn't crazy...ya know?

by Anonymousreply 56November 12, 2018 7:10 PM

What r53 describes sounds more like some Deplorable's "Deep State" ramblings where Trump needs to be protected from these Liberal Nazis who use their power in the House to hurt Trump and his allies. Like the Democratic Party will re-open Guantanamo to bring their enemies in there including Trump, jr holding him hostage so Trump may step down.

Breaking on Twitter now that an indictment is about to come down for former InfoWars contributor/Roger Stone pal Jerome Corsi. Apparently for perjury.

by Anonymousreply 66November 12, 2018 9:18 PM

by Anonymousreply 73November 13, 2018 12:12 AM

No r73.....theyll continue to believe it will happen, or that the deep state blocked it. Thats part of the delusion. Look at Clinton nutcases and the shit they spew and have been spewing for decades. by Anonymousreply 75November 13, 2018 12:28 AM

And there you have it.....Kirsten Gillibrand is running for president in 2020. She truly is deaf to the fact that a lot of people blame her for what happened to Franken. I for one saw right through her grandstanding when it happened and said she was planning on running then.

by Anonymousreply 80November 13, 2018 1:11 AM

R79 Mueller has the Dem House coming in as re-enforcement. The lines are being drawn for next year.

by Anonymousreply 81November 13, 2018 1:11 AM

Mueller has been indicted on 8 counts, correct? If he stops cooperating couldn't Mueller just have his ass thrown in jail?

Just askin'

by Anonymousreply 82November 13, 2018 1:21 AM

Make that "Manafort has been indicted on 8 counts" not Mueller in above post.

by Anonymousreply 83November 13, 2018 1:22 AM

He was found guilty by the trial jury, R83. Not just indicted.

by Anonymousreply 84November 13, 2018 1:24 AM

Manafort is already convicted and in jail, as I recall. He's probably hoping Trump and the new Attorney General can end the Mueller investigation once and for all (a tall order in itself for these incompetent asshats) and then Trump can pardon him and get him out.

by Anonymousreply 85November 13, 2018 1:25 AM

He was convicted of 8 counts at his first trial....he pled guilty to the charges....and to the 10 counts that were hung in the first trial...before the second trial began. His plea deal basically limits his prison time to 10 years for cooperating. If he backs out of the deal, he goes away for the rest of his life and probably the next.

by Anonymousreply 86November 13, 2018 1:25 AM

New York can prosecute Manafort under state law. I don't think the DOJ can help him on those.

by Anonymousreply 87November 13, 2018 1:33 AM

Neither US DOJ nor the 🍄 can help Manafort in NY state courts.

well the problem is that the Trump base/cult/stan group hear the propaganda and lies from Trump/his administration and THEN they hear it being reinforced on fucking Fox "News".. For those of you who haven't seen any Fox clips, you'll often hear stuff like "you won't hear this on the fake news liberal leftist mainstream media " (which of course means it's bs but the viewers think Fox is the only truthful "news" outlet). They truly think the mainstream media hides the real facts from them and Fox is the only honest one. They think all mainstream media has "a liberal bias" and that their side is the "good side". They have no idea that assholes like Hannity, Pirro, Ingraham, Dobs etc are all lying to them and prey on their stupidity. Trump does the same. They are a brainwashed bunch. They're convinced that any scandal involving repub politicians are "fake" and invented by the left to take them down unfairly. Some of these people will NEVER be convinced otherwise

by Anonymousreply 94November 13, 2018 5:39 AM

and now you even have some of those Fox hosts like Hannity using OUR language for them to describe the real news.

Just last week I caught a clip of Hannity saying "CNN, MSNBC, ABC they're all fake news and are doing a disservice to their viewers by giving them misinformation". Do you know dangerous shit like this is? I don't know how Hannity and those like him sleep at night or look themselves in the mirror. It is truly disgusting.

As viewers we should be entitled to the expectation that a channel labeled "news" will accurately report the news. Fox preys on the right wing bias of its viewers. They obviously want to hear positive "news" about repubs so they will trust a channel liike Fox that has a repub bias to it. They therefore do not question what is "reported" on there. It's very sick and the majority of those working at Fox are just despicable people.

Trump would not have as effective of a message if he didn't have Fox backing him up.

by Anonymousreply 95November 13, 2018 5:45 AM

It's infuriating that fake news (and the idiots who believe it) got us into this mess, only for the term "fake news" to be perverted to mean any news that Trump and his enablers don't like.

by Anonymousreply 96November 13, 2018 5:54 AM

Mueller doesn't leak. So if this is true it is coming from someone who knows someone who will be indicted. I hope the "someone" is Donnie, Jr's ex-wife....the one who is holding all the money for him.

R102 Thank you for that update!

At any given time I wonder how many lawsuits are pending against Donny Darko Dotard? He doesn't pay his employees or business partners. He cheats. He lies. We have no clue what is on his tax returns. He tries to silence his mistresses. He consorts with Putie.

Enough!

No, they should hang in there. They should assert their 1st Amendment function. Boycotting will mean not doing their job and constitutional function.

And the White House Correspondents' Association supports the lawsuit.

by Anonymousreply 112November 13, 2018 2:38 PM

Part of the battle is probably psychological. Doing this so slow and meticulously is driving Trump out of his mind. The more unhinged he becomes, the more the public sees how unfit, even certifiably insane, Trump is. Trump is being surrounded and cornered into a small space....slowly. The one thing Donnie wanted to do is declare himself a Dictator and we just are not willing to play along. He’s squirming under a microscope and a bright light will soon shine on his subversive tratorious acts and this, with his growing rage, is his downfall. Mueller is a genuinely intelligent man. Donnie is just a bloviated ego with a gold toilet.

by Anonymousreply 113November 13, 2018 2:47 PM

Mueller will certainly have noted the denunciations from one such as ex-CIA head John Brennan - whose critical words have matched the harshest (clean) posts seen daily on DL.

Fascinating though to consider how Mueller mixes with his peers. Family and friends. It's the most incredibly volatile time in American politics. Mueller's in the hottest of seats. Does The Subject never come up? It has to be the hugest of elephants in the room, in this case all too close an analogy. (Trump is the elephant in everyone's room. Part of him loves that.) But Mueller can't go there. Incredible pressure. Maybe a Nobel Peace Prize awaits.

by Anonymousreply 114November 13, 2018 2:47 PM

It's interesting that in the past when Drumpf wanted to get rid of someone he made them act like they were leaving of their own accord. That's changed with Sessions and Nielson's departures, right?

OR is the Nielson thing just a fake distraction?

by Anonymousreply 115November 13, 2018 2:51 PM

Trump loves humiliating people. His best happiest moments on The Apprentice" were when he yelled" You're fired!!!" In the case of Sessions' firing and the Whitaker appointment, he has fucked up. He is breaking the law.

by Anonymousreply 116November 13, 2018 3:16 PM

Omarosa outright says he has zero empathy for anyone and purposefully manipulates situations in order set up fights between people, including his own family members. She says he gets a charge from it. Causing rage in others makes him happy. In other words, he’s a psychopath.

by Anonymousreply 117November 13, 2018 3:23 PM

R103 False testimony to a Grand Jury is a felony and is way more than a 30-day sentence. The feds take lying to them very seriously and Mueller is no exception. JR apparently also lied to a Congressional committee while under oath.

Lying to the FBI is what got Martha Stewart convicted, not the insider trading matter.

Apparently Jared was comparatively more candid about his role in the saga, and perhaps may not be pursued on the lying angle. He employed excellent lawyers at the get-go. That doesn't mean he's in the clear with the conspiracy stuff and related criminal activity that may be uncovered.

by Anonymousreply 140November 13, 2018 6:03 PM

I have to wonder if Mueller revised his time table know as we all suspected, that Sessions' days were numbered and most likely Trump was going to try to stop or fire Mueller. The Kvanaugh nomination and hearings had to give Mueller pause. It was clear that Trump stuck with Kvanaugh, in fact nominated him even though he was told Kavanaugh would be the most difficult to pass, for two reasons: He felt sure Kvanaugh would support him based on past opinions and comments; and the bonus of Kavanaugh being a Clinton hater who worked for Ken Starr made him very attractive. Trump is a small malicious piece of shit. His own antipathy towards the Bushes was overcome, and he managed to get past t hat because of the Ken Starr connection.

by Anonymousreply 141November 13, 2018 6:28 PM

Sorry for the typos, I was going to add that Mueller may have revised his time table to move up the indictments of the inner circle.

by Anonymousreply 143November 13, 2018 6:34 PM

Papadopolous was already sentenced....hes trying to withdraw his deal before he has to report to prison. It should be noted that Mueller said Pap really didnt cooperate, he gave misleading info, and he covered for Mufsad so he could get away. Also noted, Paps could still be indicted for the actual conspiracy stuff...he was so far, only indicted for lying to the FBI. Like with Manafort and Flynn and the others, ther are multiple charges he could be facing down the road. Does anyone really believe the only thing Flynn is facing are perjury charges ?

I posted this on the "Crazy Rant" thread, but wanted to bring it over here too. A WaPo article had this bit of info:

"During Sunday’s flight to Washington from Paris, aides filed into the president’s private cabin to lobby against the leading contender to replace Kelly, Nick Ayers, who is Vice President Pence’s chief of staff. These aides told Trump that appointing Ayers would lower staff morale and perhaps trigger an exodus. But the president has continued to praise Ayers, who also enjoys the support of Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, according to multiple White House officials."

Wasn't Nick Ayers the top guess (at least on DL) for the NYTimes anonymous Op-ed?

by Anonymousreply 172November 14, 2018 1:28 AM

I heard someone say...or speculate that Trump didn't go to Arlington because he allegedly spent all day Monday, Veterans Day meeting with his lawyers to go over the answers to the written questions Mueller sent. While talking about that, they remarked that allegedly Mueller waived the obstruction line of questioning and focused on collusion related issues. Now I find that very hard to believe. The obstruction was so frequent, so in your face, I cannot see Mueller waiving the right to prosecute Trump on that.

by Anonymousreply 173November 14, 2018 1:32 AM

R173, it’s been reported that Trump is refusing to answer any questions about obstruction, not that Mueller has waived anything.

R181 Horrifying! Yet hilarious!

by Anonymousreply 182November 14, 2018 2:37 AM

For weeks this fall, an ebullient President Trump traveled relentlessly to hold raise-the-rafters campaign rallies — sometimes three a day — in states where his presence was likely to help Republicans on the ballot.

But his mood apparently has changed as he has taken measure of the electoral backlash that voters delivered Nov. 6. With the certainty that the incoming Democratic House majority will go after his tax returns and investigate his actions, and the likelihood of additional indictments by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, Trump has retreated into a cocoon of bitterness and resentment, according to multiple administration sources.

Behind the scenes, they say, the president has lashed out at several aides, from junior press assistants to senior officials. “He’s furious,” said one administration official. “Most staffers are trying to avoid him.”

The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, painted a picture of a brooding president “trying to decide who to blame” for Republicans’ election losses, even as he publicly and implausibly continues to claim victory.

There was no definite consensus but it was generally thought to come from Pence's camp. I can't remember what the motives were supposed to be but given Ayers level of ambition it makes sense. Play from every side...?

by Anonymousreply 186November 14, 2018 4:05 AM

About R183, who in their right mind wants to work in a White House with a hysterical ninny ranting at them every day? Why? They can already put “White House” on their resume. I can’t imagine the emotional abuse those people are living through.

The longer they stay, the more likely they’re going to have to hire lawyers for their interviews with Mueller. It’s not like the staff is making huge salaries.

My guess is by now even the dyed in the wool Trumpers realize he’s an abusive personality. Why not run for the hills?

by Anonymousreply 187November 14, 2018 4:08 AM

Something that happened this weekend made me think about the op-ed author, specifically what I perceived as the oddly "youthful" enthusiasm in the writing. Hah! That was unintentional. But yes it did that too!

by Anonymousreply 197November 14, 2018 10:55 AM

Trump's lawyers gave Mueller that ultimatum about Obstruction? They cites something in the Constitution regarding Comey, about the President's right to fire anyone he wants to fire. I have to wonder. If it is so obvious that the Constitution says the POTUS can fire Comey for the hell of it, why all those credible legal experts were saying it was clear cut obstruction of Justice. Because if someone is investigating you and you fire them, because you don't want them to investigate you it seems like that is Obstruction. I have a feeling Trump's lawyers aren't as smart as Mueller.

by Anonymousreply 198November 14, 2018 11:59 AM

[quote] it seems like that is Obstruction

That's because it is. He admitted it on national television to Lester Holt when he said that he fired Comey because of the "Russia thing and Trump."

by Anonymousreply 199November 14, 2018 12:05 PM

And now Trump has put Whitaker in at Justice because he liked what he was saying on TV talk shows. Which seems like more obstruction...at least it will be the moment Whitaker reaches for Mueller. Here is this lunatic amateur with his convoluted bullshit analysis of the Law and his nonsensical talk about Marbury vs. Madison, and he is going to supervise Robert Mueller? That isn't even hubris. It is sheer madness. Whitaker is nuts. His reach is definitely exceeding his grasp. I guess we should feel grateful for the stupidity. The thing is, a lot of people think Trump is dumb. he is not informed. He is not intelligent, but he is street smart and has a low cunning, and he knows how to do things to try to save himself. I think anyone who underestimates his capacity to be evil and crooked and underhanded makes a big mistake.

Lindsey declares Whitaker does not need to recuse himself and his appointment was proper. Lindsey also express a willingness to support legislation protecting Mueller. This after he attacked the investigation which he supposedly once supported beforehand.

Sophie Weiner of Splinter apparently doesn't peruse Datalounge, or she would better understand the complications and intricacies that compose Lindsey Graham. ----------------------- On an additional note, the certain Fox News host crowd, have the agenda to urge Whitaker to start DOJ and investigative agencies purges, and initiate political prosecutions of Democrats, and of course again, their old favorite target, HRC.

I went in the very busy Waffle House this morning for breakfast.

As walking in, the one waitress I know well, showed an amazing sense of humor. She exclaimed loudly:

"There's chaos in the Waffle House. But it's mild compared to the chaos in the White House. Good morning."

She deserves a much better paying job.

Sometimes I wonder if George Conway is worried that KAC will be charged and is trying to rebrand their family so that the courts will show mercy on her.

by Anonymousreply 211November 14, 2018 3:34 PM

Omarosa just told Craig Melvin that "her sources" suggest the WH found who wrote the Resist Letter and quietly sacked them.

But she said this after insinuating yet again that the letter sounded very much like Pence's shop and particularly Nick Ayers who is far from being sacked.

by Anonymousreply 212November 14, 2018 3:39 PM

This is a great long-form piece about how Ayers, born poor, has made millions with ethically dubious and legally questionable deals.

A key detail is that he has a malleable Pence under his spell.

Another prescient detail, reported in March, is that Ayers was apparently in consideration for COS even back then.

Kellyanne Conway has been tight with Rebekah Mercer who funded the Cambridge Analytical endeavors. Steve Bannon was also connected.

Actually, Kellyanne may be "the mole", working to keep herself from being indicted as any co-conspirator.

Kellyanne is feeding from the Mercer financial apparatus and serves as the Mercer insider in the WH for influence and information. Kellyanne is making added good money in the WH, and still has her Polling Company. She's well connected on the cocktail circuit.

George Conway the country club Republican type with an elite law firm with wealthy clients. For business and political ideology, he's not identifying with the fundamental and crude MAGA types. I expect he would identify as a Romney kind of Republican. He also presents himself as a legal and constitutional expert/scholar, something that is the antithesis to what Trump represents. That said, he was no Hillary supporter.

Which can and has taken him so far, as far incredibly as the WH. Where the biggest light ever has been focused on him, and he can't take it.

Street smarts and low cunning can't ultimately work when attempting to cope with the heavyweight demands of both Vladimir Putin and Robert Mueller.

Nixon couldn't have managed that, and for all his dirty tricks he was by leagues more intelligent than Trump. (As are most.) And Nixon went down, as will Trump, with a million times more disgrace. He has to know it. His street smarts will soon be rendered abjectly juvenile.

The Seth Abramson book is based on mainstream reporting. It's mostly contextualizing the amazing scoops and reporting and connecting the work of the Wall Street Journal to the Washington Post to the Daily Beast then forming a theory of the case based on the publicly available information.

It's an amazing thing that he's been able to own this space. If his theory of the case is correct or mostly correct, he'll be a widely-respected figure.

by Anonymousreply 241November 14, 2018 7:24 PM

Concur r240. Trump has a unique ability to project confidence and push the right buttons with his supporters. He has "gifts" (not in a good way) often exhibited by cult leaders. Those that know better, find him offensive. To his base supporters, he is heroic. He speaks lies forcefully without exhibiting any indication of reservations about it. He plays on fears and prejudices. He can deliver divisiveness in an entertaining way to his believers. He's vindictive. He tries to intimidate all adversaries, including Mueller, who is too clever and experienced to take the bait. As said, DJT's methodology leaves a trail, and has an expiration date.

I'm wondering if Mueller had planned on doing something this week, but he is now holding back until he meets with Whitaker or until the legal challenges to Whitaker's appointment are resolved or the DoJ Ethics & Professional Conduct division can rule on whether or not Whitaker must recuse himself.

The 20 page opinion DoJ wrote to contest the Maryland lawsuit said his temporary appointment was within the President's right and was not unconstitutional. But that is the DoJ's opinion. Admittedly it would have weight in a court proceeding,. Maya Wiley said last week that arguing the appointment on the grounds of Constitutionality was not necessarily a strong or winning argument.

The DoJ shares that view by upholding the POTUS's right to appoint. They specifically said that even though Whitaker was "unconfirmed" it was not an issue. What I find troubling is that the Presidential line of succession includes the Attorney General, and in that sense, confirmation of his appointment by an elective body is pretty important. Even though it is clear that his appointment is "Acting" and thus temporary, the terms that define "temporary" are rather generous. Minimum of 7 months if the POTUS wishes. And then renewable.

Mother Jones has more information today on the business scams Whitaker was involved with up until he joined the Trump administration last year. I wonder if Rosenstein is trying to advise Mueller or Whitaker on how to proceed, and whether either would trust his advice.

The other problem I See is that even if the Senate drafts legislation aimed at "notr firing Mueller" unless they specifically state that his investigative work cannot be tampered with or limited in any way, Whitaker doesn't have to formally fire him or end the investigation. All he has to do is limit him and stop him from going down certain avenues of inquiry. Like everything else in this administration Trump is turning the Department of Justice into another shit mess.

by Anonymousreply 251November 14, 2018 8:51 PM

Kellyanne would not betray the Mercers. They are the only ones who still believe in Trump being useful fanning the flames of the Deplorable who can cause the violent chaos they want for the US.

Murdoch might be ready to let go of Trump, but the Mercers still fund the Deplorable and internet troll disinformation movement within the US (Russia doing its part from overseas).

by Anonymousreply 252November 14, 2018 8:56 PM

[quote]Mother Jones has more information today on the business scams Whitaker was involved with up until he joined the Trump administration last year.

Why, yes it does:

In November 2014, a Miami Beach-based firm, World Patent Marketing, announced the “marketing launch” of a “MASCULINE TOILET,” which boasted a specially designed bowl to help “well-endowed men” avoid unwanted contact with porcelain or water.

“The average male genitalia is between 5″ and 6″,” the firm’s press release said. “However, this invention is designed for those of us who measure longer than that.” In the same release, World Patent Marketing also touted the recent appointment of “Matthew G. Whitaker, former Iowa US Attorney and Republican candidate for United States Senate to the company’s advisory board.”

Yeah, but. I read somewhere that it would only take one senator to vote against such legislation to defeat it. And unless the language of the legislation specifically prohibits any tampering limiting or steering Mueller's investigation then it's mute. They don't need to fire Mueller to fuck up this investigation. I am praying that Whitaker will decide on the advice of some important money men, to recuse himself. I would love to see Trump stroke out on live TV.

by Anonymousreply 257November 14, 2018 9:08 PM

Moot, not mute, r257.

by Anonymousreply 258November 14, 2018 9:16 PM

Mueller is holding near all close to the vest. It is hard to see someone such as Junior escape an indictment. He lied to investigators and Congress. Stone certainly seems headed for an indictment.

Mueller may deliver a blistering report on Trump, and maybe some others, without indictments. It may contain impeachable offenses. Then it is in Congress' hands. Trump could be named as a co-conspirator on certain lower indictments, particularly pertaining to obstruction. That evidence is strong.

People expecting a bunch of loaded vans hauling all the Trumps and cohorts off to jail, may be disappointed.

Mueller may not want his legacy for history as pussying-out on Trump. That noted, he has moved slow; maybe too slowly.

I know I should be happy about the Blue Wave, but when guys like King, from Iowa and Nunes from California are still around it makes me irrationally pissed off. I've always been a glass half full kind of guy, but I was really hoping we could nail those two. Mc Carthy and Trump have a "special relationship." Trump likes him. He's dumb as a box of rocks so he will be a pawn for Trump.

by Anonymousreply 335November 15, 2018 4:25 PM

The Senate and House, including the Republicans, should be livid with the interim appointment of Whitaker by DJT. It is the Senate's job to receive a nomination, conduct further vetting, have hearings, and vote. Appointing Whitaker is blatantly all about sabotaging Mueller. They all know it. McConnell is disgusting, and deficient pressure is placed on him.

Please, the Republicans give a half assed lip service to be CONCERNED about Trump's shenanigans but wil not lift a finger, because in the end they will side with the one who furthers their self serving agenda.

by Anonymousreply 340November 15, 2018 4:37 PM

... In 2018, we again find ourselves charting new territory. The argument that Comey’s firing might not be a catastrophe for democracy was that we now had Robert Mueller in the role of special counsel. The argument that Sessions’ firing might not be a catastrophe for democracy is that Mueller’s investigation may yet overcome any obstacles and reach its natural conclusion.

Maybe, maybe not. But whatever the outcome of Mueller’s investigation, America is establishing new precedents. One precedent is that President Trump fired the FBI director—and Congress did nothing. Another is that Trump admitted the FBI’s investigation of his campaign motivated the firing—and Congress did nothing. A third precedent is that Trump fired the attorney general after having railed against him publicly for refusing to intervene in the investigation—and Congress has done nothing. A fourth precedent is that Trump circumvented the Justice Department’s order of succession so he could replace the attorney general with an individual who has directed partisan attacks at the special counsel, has described publicly how a new attorney general could undermine the investigation, has had a personal and political relationship with an individual involved in the investigation, and has been associated with a company that is the focus of a separate FBI investigation.

We’ll see what a new Congress does about that when it is sworn in this January, but options may be limited unless the Senate’s leadership has a change of heart. Even if the appointment of Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker—the current replacement for Sessions—were to be invalidated, Trump would still be guilty of having fired the nation’s top two law enforcement officials in an effort to obstruct the investigation of his campaign.

If members of Congress or the American people fail to act, these precedents will become the guideposts for future presidents who follow the path President Trump is blazing. A new tenet of American democracy will become that a president is permitted to evade investigation by firing the heads of agencies that investigate the president’s close associates, even when the investigation is the reason for the firings. This cannot stand. Putting a president above the rule of law is a threat to democracy.

Adam Schiff hopes to fight Donald Trump with facts

Hollywood’s unlikeliest star will assume a lead role in 2019

Nov 15th 2018

Only a partisan Republican could describe the congressman for Tinseltown as a “Hollywood liberal”. Though socially liberal, Adam Schiff, a 58-year-old former federal prosecutor, is a fiscally sensible moderate with national-security chops. He is also, despite being the likely next chairman of the House intelligence committee, hardly anyone’s idea of box office.

As the ranking Democrat on a committee that has degenerated to dog-eat-dog partisanship and conspiracy-mongering under Devin Nunes, Mr Schiff has been much provoked in the past 18 months. He remains relentlessly measured and low-key. A look of pained consternation, over his Republican colleagues’ latest attack or intelligence leak, is as animated as he gets. “I think they will have a lot to answer for when this chapter of history is written,” he says, more in sorrow than rage. Yet Mr Schiff, though neither charismatic nor fiery, qualities that some Democrats think indispensable to resisting the president, will soon lead that effort.

He will be responsible for holding Donald Trump to account on the president’s main vulnerability: his dealings with Russia. In part this will mean backing Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s effort to get Mr Trump elected. Mr Nunes has tried to obstruct and discredit the special counsel. Mr Schiff will provide him with testimonies gathered by the committee’s own Russia investigation, which Mr Nunes has refused to release.

He also means to continue the committee’s probe. Indeed, though its Republican contingent prematurely declared the inquiry over, he and his Democratic colleagues never stopped investigating. With control of the committee’s staff and subpoena power, which House committees, unlike the more collegial Senate, reserve for the majority party, their effort will soon be more imposing. “The highest priority will be not to reinvent the wheel but to look at investigating threads the Republicans stopped us looking at,” he says. “There are any number that were in the category of conspiracy or collusion that we were not able to pursue.”

This points to the main danger for House Democrats bent on applying oversight to the administration. It has generated such a lot of sleaze and intrigue—also including the conflicts of Ryan Zinke and Wilbur Ross, the policy blunders at the borders and in Puerto Rico, the president’s attacks on governing norms—that the watchdogs will simply have too much to grapple with. The temptation will be to spread themselves too thinly and lose focus on what matters most. That would also turn off ordinary Americans. Having little interest in the details of 47 different Trump scandals, many would view the Democratic onslaught, however justified, as over-egged and needlessly partisan. Mr Trump, by fulminating against witch-hunts and firing off fictitious accusations against his accusers, would encourage and be strengthened by that.

By the same token, Mr Schiff’s effort to reinvigorate the House investigation, despite Mr Mueller’s ongoing investigation, could look gratuitous to a public that has little interest in the Russian plot. That would be wrong, given the seriousness of Russia’s attack, and worrying, given the likelihood of a repeat. Yet it could happen, and in that case Mr Schiff would end up politicising the special counsel’s more high-powered investigation even more than it already has been. Mr Trump would waste no time in framing Mr Schiff and Mr Mueller as conspirators in a liberal vendetta.

...

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 356November 15, 2018 5:55 PM

... He acknowledges some of these risks: “The president is going to fight oversight tooth and nail, which means we must pick and choose our fights.” He says he will focus his investigation on allegations surrounding Russian payments to Mr Trump’s company before he was elected. Neither the House nor Senate probes looked at this, though many believe it could help explain Mr Trump’s cravenness towards Vladimir Putin. Mr Schiff says the allegations may turn out “more compromising than any salacious videotape”.

He believes the special counsel has not looked at them either, but even if he has, he says there is little danger he will muddy the water between his probe and Mr Mueller’s. Congressional oversight, tarnished by House Republicans, is both important in itself and fundamentally different from the special counsel’s brief, he says. Mr Mueller has a mandate to investigate crimes. Having done so, he could choose not to release his findings. Congressional oversight, by contrast, is as much about bringing the truth to light as miscreants to book: “The public deserves an accounting.”

Mr Schiff’s eagerness to prioritise also suggests he has taken a lesson from his Republican tormentors. He is a veteran of one of the eight Republican investigations into Hillary Clinton’s alleged culpability for the deaths of American diplomatic staff in Benghazi in 2012. It was a bogus charge: she had no direct responsibility. Yet in the process of devoting hours of airtime and millions of dollars to it, the Republicans raised doubts about Mrs Clinton’s integrity which helped deny her the presidency. With so many real scandals to choose from, the Democrats need to focus not only on the most serious but also, as the Republicans did, on what seems most indicative of their opponent’s character. Mr Trump’s alleged malfeasance fits that bill.

You say subpoena

Sticking it to him in this way might placate Democratic activists who want to impeach the president, which the party’s leadership, including Mr Schiff, does not want: “There’s only one thing worse than putting the country through the wrenching experience of an impeachment, and that’s a failed impeachment”. It would also indicate that Mr Trump is better opposed with fact and reason, the grounds he cannot compete on, than fire and nonsense.

This is why Mr Schiff, calm and rigorous, looks like an effective opponent for Mr Trump. It is also why the president’s effort to tar him as “Sleazy Adam Schiff” fell flat. The only association with sin that clings to Mr Schiff, a marathon-running vegan, relates to the fact that his wife is called Eve.

I stole this from a comment at the WaPo. GREAT info:

So, what can one person, a.k.a. you, do besides venting, playing Whack-a-Troll, & just watching and waiting? Here's an action plan: Call your representative and urge that she/he intensify and protect a House investigation of DT's alleged collusion, cover-up, and obstruction of Russiagate (not to mention emoluments and tax returns) and act to protect Muller, Rosenstein, and the FBI investigation. And insist on Whitaker's recusal. The congressional switchboard is (202) 224-3121 where a polite robo voice will ask your ZIP code and forward you to your representative's office. An aide will answer, record your concerns, and pass them on. This takes 5 minutes.

Like some more talking points? These are FL's former Senator Graham's. Urge your representative to 1) increase staffing of the committees (Intelligence, Oversight, Ways and Means, Judiciary, etc.) and specifically that hire more forensic accountants and specialists in international law, financial crimes, counterintelligence investigations, cybersecurity and coding--needed expertise. 2) counter DT's probable firing of Rosenstein and Mueller by developing protocols for protecting and ensuring complete access to documents, transcripts, interviews, and other material gathered by the Mueller, Comey, and Flynn probes. AND publish Mueller's report. 3) protect all DT investigations to prevent further Russian meddling in election processes and reestablish our trust in our American government.

Please exercise your 1st A rights of petition and redress. Pass this info on to others. Accept a call to active political duty. Your country will thank you.

Remember Gates has a plea deal so he's basically Mueller's bitch and must keep cooperating until Mueller has decided he's got no more use for him

Since he was deputy campaign chair, Gates obviously dealt with the top people of Trump's campaign. This means he definitely knows shit about Manafort, Don Jr, Kushner, Trump himself and others

Who knows if Gates has anything to do with Stone though

R393 Lindz is in thick of all this and is constantly before the cameras and referenced daily in the media. As I type this, Rachel Maddow is sowing Lindz' pic and his anti-Mueller investigation initiatives. Lindz is aiming to replace Grassley as Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Lindz is totally a DJT enabler after puzzlingly flipping.

She will be discussed. She has been talked about for years; now more than ever for obvious reasons.

She also has a history of supporting and voting anti-gay measures.

is Hannity next?

Remember Assange was caught trying to dm with Hannity earlier this year. Hannity's account on twitter went down temporarily for some reason and some girl made a parody account. Assange thought it was real and started messaging. She screen shotted and reported it.

Let's see if Hannity freaks out over Assange

I would ejaculate hands free if Hannity ends up going down too OMFG but probably won't happen

The lawsuit alleges that CNN and Acosta's First and Fifth Amendment rights are being violated by the suspension of Acosta's press pass.

Mueller may be holding up some new indictments due to waiting for the answers to written questions given to Trump. Some of those questions involve other people connected to his campaign, and Mueller may want to do some cross-checking before moving further on some people.. Trump has been asked since January for testimony.

by Anonymousreply 446November 16, 2018 6:21 PM

That makes sense, R446.

by Anonymousreply 447November 16, 2018 6:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 448November 16, 2018 6:38 PM

"So far" being key, R448. Manafort brought Pence on board. Flynn was jettisoned for "lying to the Pence" about his past activity.

Pence already know. Pence was part of the transition team.

Pence is a dirty as they come, masquerading behind his "faith" and his "god" and his "patriotism."

I'd like to attend his hanging, simply because of his unabashed Christian charlatanism.

by Anonymousreply 449November 16, 2018 6:45 PM

R449 I'd like to think Pence will suffer consequences too but I'm not sure. The repubs would revolt if both Trump and Pence went down. They don't care about actual evidence and laws, just optics. They'll be screaming about a "mass witch hunt against all repubs" until the end of time

by Anonymousreply 451November 16, 2018 7:08 PM

I've always felt like this might be the case, and yes I know--feelings aren't facts.

But how sweet that would be.

by Anonymousreply 452November 16, 2018 7:23 PM

Pence certainly knew there was collaboration with the Russians and probably did not report anything to the FBI, including Flynn's activities of which he claimed no knowledge. His closeness with Manafort suggests he was knowledgeable about some of it early. Heading the transition team, it would be expected he heard discussions that included suppressing embarrassing and perhaps illegal information from being discovered. Whether or not he had any direct dialogue with Russian conspirators has not been substantiated....yet. Of course DJT would throw MP under the bus, if saved his own ass. Pence would know that.

by Anonymousreply 453November 16, 2018 7:48 PM

r446....if you watch Maddow, you would know that there is a court case going on right now that is under seal....the entire case. The judge assigned recused himself...he was also a Trump pick, who under Senate grilling was forced to say he would recuse from any Trump/Russia related cases because while working in the white house, he worked on the Trump/Russia case for Trump...although he refused to elaborate what hes done. The speculation is that they are fighting an indictment of Trump or Junior or fighting a subpoena. They know its Mueller related because Mueller prosecutors keep going to court over it.

by Anonymousreply 454November 16, 2018 7:56 PM

[quote]I would love it if Trump threw Pence under the bus and fucked with his reputation too.

Well, he may throw him off the ticket. The New York Times reports today:

In recent weeks, with his electoral prospects two years from now much on his mind, Mr. Trump has focused on the person who has most publicly tethered his fortunes to him. In one conversation after another he has asked aides and advisers a pointed question: Is Mike Pence loyal?

Mr. Trump has repeated the question so many times that he has alarmed some of his advisers. The president has not openly suggested dropping Mr. Pence from the ticket and picking another running mate, but the advisers say those kinds of questions usually indicate that he has grown irritated with someone.

Some Trump advisers, primarily outside the White House, have suggested to him that while Mr. Pence remains loyal, he may have used up his utility. These advisers argue that Mr. Trump has forged his own relationship with evangelical voters, and that what he might benefit from more is a running mate who could help him with women voters.

It's very interesting that Trump is having stories leaked that he doesn't feel that Pence is being loyal to him.

Pence hasn't been interviewed by the Mueller team yet - Does that mean he's a target?

Does Trump know there are charges coming for Pence, and that's why he's peeling away from him now?

I wonder if Mueller's team is purposely giving bad information to Whitaker, knowing he'll take it right back to Trump. That's a great way to get himself into a lot of legal jeopardy. Something about corrupt intent.

by Anonymousreply 463November 16, 2018 9:25 PM

Yesterday I re-posted a comment from the WaPo. Here is another I found; it is pretty on-target. Thanks to that OP:

Donald Trump is a third-generation (small-time) Mob Boss who has never been particularly intelligent (or good) at whatever he did. Almost all of his business ventures have been hollow failures, and he learned and inculcated his values at the feet of his father, Fred Sr. He got them from his father, Friederich Trumpf, who fled Imperial Germany (Kallstadt) in 1885 to avoid military service, becoming a Barber and a Pimp on the Lower East Side of New York.

A third-generation American, DJT was ‘born on Third Base,’ and his father ensured that he would have the opportunity to succeed on his own. Trump’s diplomas from NYMA and Penn were purchased by his father, and he never attended the Wharton School of Business. He received a BA from the Penn Economics Department. At least George W. Bush had the honesty to admit he received ‘Gentleman C’s’ at Yale.

But, like other parallel (3G) Sansei, he took to heart the wrong lessons. He became unruly, vacuous and vain. His moral compass could not be broken because he never had one. He learned early to enhance his appearance of wealth and success by taking on debt, maximizing the exposure of others, and giving them an occasional financial ‘haircut.’ Trump’s six (6) Bankruptcies over the past 40 years left hundreds of creditors in ruin and would make Mitt Romney (of Bain Capital fame) blush.

In layman terms, none of us would buy a Used Car from this guy. Winning the Presidency (by accident) would be sobering to anyone else, but he didn’t see the scrutiny coming because he thinks like a Fifth Grader. Trump didn’t have the presence of mind to ramp-back his Racketeering (RICO) activities after he took office, and now he is staring at OSC Mueller’s Size 14 Shoe about to drop. The only RICO activities he appears to not have engaged in is Prostitution, Drug & Gun-Running, and Murder-for-Hire.

Trump will never be Impeached and removed from Office. He will be criminally indicted, soundly defeated in 2020, tried, convicted and imprisoned.

by Anonymousreply 464November 16, 2018 9:34 PM

The Democrats should continue with this.

Then, when you scroll down, he tells someone else that it's High Treason.

Did they really do prison reform just to benefit from it themselves? Good, I hope they know they're going to prison, and soon.

Still, I tend to believe the stories that Jared has already flipped. The story is that he is talking to Mueller through his father and lawyers. We'll see if Jared gets hit with anything heavier than the usual perjury charge that most of the flippers get.

[quote]so I just don't understand why he was never sent to jail DECADES ago for all the shit he's done and gotten away with.

He's hardly unique in this. There are tens of thousands of white-collar criminals like him operating with impunity across the country at any given time. Everybody knows they're crooked -- the public, law enforcement, politicians. Sometimes local LE and politicians are in their pockets, but mostly it's just that their crimes are too complex and difficult to unravel and prosecute. (Look how long it's taking Mueller to investigate and he's got the very best people and tech at his disposal.} Much easier to go after petty criminals.

The rumor was that Trump wanted Christie for his VP before Manafort manipulated him into choosing Pence. Now that Pence is old news and Trump is ready for another change - what are the chances that Trump is considering Christie again for VP? And Jared is working overtime to kill the idea?

by Anonymousreply 495November 17, 2018 12:02 PM

I heard on a news report before the election that Jared has made "peace" with Christie and he would not block any attempt by Trump to make him AG or VP, but who the fuck really knows?

Whitaker? Graham? DJT loyalists getting placed in key assignments to constrain Mueller.

Christie is seen as a moderate. He might appeal to the moderate Republicans who hate Trump but who are on the fence about voting Democrat.

From Trump's point of view, he thinks Christie is a killer, probably based on what Christie did to Rubio. He might think Christie will go "killer" on his behalf when Mueller comes for him. I think he would wind up being disappointed, but that might be in his head.

Christie is not in jail because Wildstein testified that Bridgegate was his own idea and he never discussed lane realignments with Christie.

What's more interesting is how much did Kushner know about Bridgegate ahead of time. I remember a non-profit put in a FOIA request to the FBI for records related to Kushner, but we never heard anything after that.

Trump will NEVER be able to sign up anyone remotely capable or even close to normal as a VP. Every politician who wants a future can clearly see the sinking shit show that he has become. The best he could hope for is someone like Dana Rohrbacker or some other loser who's totally buys into his BS.

This may have been mentioned in an earlier thread, but with the re-emergence of Christie, it bears repeating:

Current FBI director Christopher Wray was Christie's attorney during the Bridgegate scandal, something that was kept secret for almost a year. When Wray was nominated as the replacement for James Comey, the recommendation for Wray came from...you guessed it, Chris Christie.

Wray is very dirty.

R515 I agree! His wife is a shitshow! Trump is a dumpster fire!

by Anonymousreply 517November 17, 2018 9:34 PM

Wray was also an attorney when his firm was representing various Russian interests that have intersected with this investigation. So his Christie intersection is part of a trend toward the action. These are not necessarily disqualifying when taken as a whole, however. They do give the appearance or perception of possible impropriety. That's not good.

I'm not a great fan of Director Comey and he has his flaws (including a tendency toward behavior that likely cost Clinton the election), but he wasn't crooked and his background couldn't give even the perception of impropriety.

by Anonymousreply 518November 17, 2018 9:38 PM

[quote]wait what did Christie do to Rubio?

He dismantled him in that one debate. That was effectively the end of Marco in the primaries. He lasted a while longer, but he was wounded and everyone could see it.

by Anonymousreply 519November 17, 2018 9:39 PM

R518 Comey committed the same error as the media. He thought the American people couldn't be so stupid as to vote for Trump so they treated Hillary as if she were already a shoo-in for the Presidency by being extra hard on her.

by Anonymousreply 520November 17, 2018 9:44 PM

I happen to agree with that assessment, r520.

by Anonymousreply 521November 17, 2018 9:54 PM

I try to keep up with all of this as much as I can (it's so much sometimes) but do have one question: with everyone talking about a possible indictment of Donald Trump Jr. (as well as indictments for Assange and Stone), why is there little to no talk lately about an indictment for Jared? Given that he was also at that meeting in Trump Tower -- not to mention all the other shit he's done like lying on his security forms, the back channel with Russia, etc. -- how is he not neck-and-neck with Don Jr. as to who will be indicted first? Surely he hasn't found a way to slither out of all of this so that others will take the fall.

by Anonymousreply 522November 17, 2018 9:55 PM

People keep forgetting that theres more to the Comey story....but they quickly place the blame at his feet. He was basically blackmailed by the NY FBI office and forced to go public to subvert a much larger "scandal" that they were attempting to do in NY to attack Clinton....i.e Weiner laptop, etc. He actually did Clinton a favor....besides...only a moron believes there is anything there to begin with. After all the investigations, they produced nothing...its all a political hitjob and will continue to be used as a target for future smear campaigns. Does anyone actually know anyone who decided NOT to vote for Clinton because of Comey ? SERIOUSLY. IT DID NOT HAPPEN....IT WAS A NARRATIVE THAT WAS MAGNIFIED BY MEDIA WHILE IGNORING TRUMPS SCANDALS.

by Anonymousreply 523November 17, 2018 9:55 PM

R522....Dont worry.....Kushner IS going down.....among the charges will be espionage...he was active with Cambridge...so will Brad Parscale...another worthless snake.

by Anonymousreply 524November 17, 2018 9:58 PM

Comey's re-opening of the investigation at the behest of bad actors in the FBI did cost Clinton the election through the weaponization of this action in the media both organically and, more significantly, as an op run by the Trump campaign and its collusive elements.

So I agree with your perspective as well, r523.

by Anonymousreply 525November 17, 2018 10:07 PM

Don't we all expect Kushner to cut a deal with Mueller and turn on Trump? Jared's father Charles made an appearance in that Qatar mess. If Charles did anything slightly illegal, Jared would sell out Trump in a heartbeat to save his father.

by Anonymousreply 526November 17, 2018 10:14 PM

Wray's representation of Christie was known before he received the appointment. I think they even previously knew each other from when they worked for the government as prosecutors.

Comey, Rosenstein, Wray... all part of Christie's circle of acquaintances from back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 527November 17, 2018 10:22 PM

I still have a hard time with Rosenstein working for Ken Starr during Whitewater.

by Anonymousreply 528November 17, 2018 10:24 PM

For those blaming the media for the Comey debacle (and it was), you have to also keep in mind that making confusing, important information public like Comey did in the days just prior to election, that of course the media would think it was a very big deal. Even suggesting anything negative right before an election had traditionally been a big NO.

So if someone that prominent in the FBI so publicly muddies the waters saying there are many emails that need serious review, what media - or general public - wouldn't jump on that immediately and assume there must be something big that the public needed to know before voting?

by Anonymousreply 529November 17, 2018 10:28 PM

R529 But prior to Comey, the media was already obsessed with her emails... and then not so much after the election. Comey was just a tool to get the email frenzy to climax in the final days of the election, and he too was "dismissed" after his usefulness was over.

[quote] My question is who looked at all [of Whitaker's] fraudulent activity and gave him a security clearance. As the Chief of Staff to the Attorney General he would have to have had the highest level clearance.

[quote] Christopher Wray, of course. Trump's Comey replacement.

No, R428. Wray does not adjudicate security clearances for DOJ. He has absolutely no role in granting or denying them. There is an office at DOJ that is responsible solely for that.

Now, Wray could have interfered in the background investigation to try and hide Whitaker's fraudulent activity, but he'd have been a fool for doing that. It would be have been stupid to even try because they document everything over at the FBI and it could easily be discovered. Second, he'd have to know that would get him fired and possibly prosecuted.

No, someone granted him that clearance in spite of the questionable issues in his background. I agree with the poster up-thread who said that the incoming House Committee chairs are going to be very interested in finding out who did that and why.

Todd is useless.

by Anonymousreply 551November 18, 2018 3:37 PM

Todd must have been Miss Lindzey's gentleman caller last evening. Both displayed that glow of fulfillment but are keeping "the why" hush-hush.

by Anonymousreply 552November 18, 2018 3:43 PM

Perhaps Mark Sanford will primary Lindsey Graham in 2020. Sanford has that 'Appalachian Trail' baggage, but he is one of the few high profile Republicans that has been openly critical of Trump. He lost the First District primary to a woman Trumpian this year, who then lost to the Democrat in the general election and ended as a Democratic pick-up. Sanford did not endorse the failed Trumpian, and she lashed out about it.

Sanford could possibly beat Lindsey in a GOP primary. He was a popular Governor, though his personal dallies cost him. But Graham has dallies of his own that needs to come to light. Graham is 100% all Trump; but as Trump loses his level of appeal, so will Graham. Graham is not particularly popular anyway, but gets tons of special interest money.

Another angle is that Nikki Haley could primary Graham and beat him. She has ambitions to run for President and wants to stay relevant.

by Anonymousreply 553November 18, 2018 4:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 559November 18, 2018 7:03 PM

Todd tries to legitimize Trump's disturbing antics while acting "concerned". Todd was brutal to HRC and her Emails. So was Andrea Mitchell.

As to Lindsey Graham, are all the anchors on CNN and MSNBC still infacuated with this Senator? They reference Graham all the time as a "voice of reason". No he isn't, and he never was except when McCain exherted his dominance. And Graham is just about a daily feature interview on Fox.

Don't give this opportunistic, compromised, flipper, the camera time unless it is to expose the enabing of obstruction.
