Saw the movie yesterday and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Ramis performance was great. Rami needs to play Mick Jagger next because he looked and sounded more like Mick in a lot of the scenes. Looked like Freddie but he really could play Mick.

I've been a fan of Rami since his superb supporting performance in HBO's The West (a companion piece to Band of Brothers). In spite of his buggy eyes, I think he's very attractive and very talented. I saw the film yesterday. I enjoyed it generally, but thought it was slow-paced. I wasn't particularly impressed with Malek's acting (none of the actors really caught my attention). Malek came across as forced, affected and too character-y (although I have never watched any videos of Mercury so I can't really assess whether the performance was on point). There didn't seem to be any semblance of realness, despite it being a biopic. With that said, he did fine enough, and I wouldn't cry out against an Oscar nom (or a win) for him. But ultimately I thought it a simply adequate performance.

As I mentioned above, it came across as a caricature, and not a very deft portrayal. Not that it has to be an exact replica of Mercury. But I saw none of Mercury's video represented in Malek's performance (am I incorrect, or was Malek's accent completely botched?). I feel that is a big problem with Hollywood acting in the current era. Oscars means shit in our days. Gary Oldman won last year, and it did nothing for him. But he at least has decades of impressive career. Also Rami needs to think what kind of career he wants. He may not be traditional leading man material but I could totally see Rami starring in a successful Hugh Grant like rom-com because of his huge female fanbase or him playing all the aspie roles Cumberbatch usually plays.
