And I'll carry over here. The first election result is Dems taking over the governorship of Guam, something the GOP has held for the past 8 years. Not high profile, but it's something dammit.

So what do you guys think the end result will be?

Dems winning both house and senate? Winning just house, winning just senate? Not winning either?

I'm hoping all the voter suppression stuff wasn't enough but I learned from 2016 to not expect good things and none of the senators are known pedophiles so we won't pull an Alabama on other deep red states.

Early exit polls: Health Care most important issue

by Anonymousreply 9November 6, 2018 9:37 PM

[quote]winning just senate?

This is basically impossible. If the Democrats win the Senate if means we are facing a blue tsunami bigger than anyone anticipated, and they will win the House by huge magins.

by Anonymousreply 10November 6, 2018 9:38 PM

CNN EXIT POLLS

This election is about Trump

About 4 in 10 voters turning out to vote across the country choose health care as the most important problem facing the country, and more, 7 in 10, say the nation’s health care system needs major changes. About 2 in 10 each choose the economy and immigration as their top issue, and 1 in 10 say it’s gun policy.

by Anonymousreply 11November 6, 2018 9:38 PM

Calling the Poll Troll!

by Anonymousreply 12November 6, 2018 9:39 PM

Oh my god I want Dems to win so badly but I just have a sinking feeling about this. There's so much that can be done to favor the other side ... low voter turnout, Russian interference, illegal and complicit miscounting. My fingers are crossed but the neck & neck aspect of so many races troubles me. Shouldn't Dems be projected to win by double digits, but so many races (including my backyard) are a dead heat. Nailbiting time.

by Anonymousreply 13November 6, 2018 9:40 PM

WTF, the exits have higher Trump unfavorables but also higher % of people against impeachment and unfavorable of Mueller? How do you square that?

by Anonymousreply 14November 6, 2018 9:40 PM

In Michigan it has been pre-existing conditions non stop by the Democrats

by Anonymousreply 17November 6, 2018 9:42 PM

Basically I am cautiously optimistic that this will be a very good night by the Dems. By that I mean winning 40-some seats in the house, comfortably more than the 23 they need to flip it. I expect most of the red state Democrats to survive and that we can potentially flip Nevada and Arizona. Mind you this is not Senate control (which is pretty out of reach), but it would be a god-send of a night.

Of course, I could easily be wrong. I'm as nervous as anybody.

Like I said in the previous thread, my vote has very little effect on anything, but it was basically a straight D ticket. And almost all women. I couldn't bring myself to vote for Cuomo, so I wrote in Cynthia Nixon and Kathy Hochul. Upon reflection, I wish I'd written in Nixon and DL Icon and NY Semi-First Lady Sandra Lee.

For Indiana, Gary, Indiana which is very Democrat, the polls close an hour later than the rest of the state because they are the same time as Chicago while the rest of the state is on eastern time, so wait for those returns to come in before you decide what is final there.

R123 It's not really north vs south and fly over states, it's urban vs rural (and white/straight/etc vs minorities tbh). Much more difficult to split that way. Now if you forced all the rural and conservative people in general into just a few states and closed them off then yeah I'd like to see that.

In Indiana most the state will show up red, but most of the Donnelly votes will come from just three counties, Marion (Indianapolis), Lake County ( Gary), St. Joseph ( South Bend). And KY6 flipping means we are in for big Democratic wave tonight. Don't freak out if it doesn't, but it is the earliest indicator of a wave election.

by Anonymousreply 161November 6, 2018 10:37 PM

R155, you shouldn’t be stressed. This is the highest midterms turnout in, what, almost 50 years? This is the highest level of engagement in many of our lifetimes. You could worry if the turnout was *pathetic*— that would be bad news. This is great news.

One other thing about Indiana. Hillary lost there tremendously. The race for Senate there tonight, judging from the 1% of the vote that’s been tallied, is a lot tighter than that.

I think we need to look for small counties that hold their vote totals. That happened a lot in 2016. Re Indiana/Donnely, this is what one of the people on the 538 live blog said ten minutes ago:

Looking for signs of what’s happening with Democratic incumbent Sen. Joe Donnelly in Indiana? In Bartholomew County, which had 1 percent of the state’s vote in 2016, a bit more than one-third of its precincts have reported. Trump won it by 33 points in 2016, and Donnelly lost it by 8 points in 2012. Currently Donnelly trails there by 9 points, which is close to his 2012 result when he won statewide by 6 points.

As they await results, White House officials are downplaying the polls and expressing skepticism, pointing to polls in 2016 as being off the mark.

They are hopeful it’s the same situation this time around.

“The President’s message on immigration is resonating and as we saw in 2016 I don’t think the polls reflect that," one White House official said. The source also says President Trump is “laying low now and watching tv like the rest of us.”

by Anonymousreply 300November 6, 2018 11:24 PM

Nelson (D) and Gillum (D) have opened up 4-5 point leads in Florida now.

And that's before the Democratic strongholds in Southern FL are in.

And Jared Polis, cause I’m in Colorado

by Anonymousreply 304November 6, 2018 11:26 PM

r251, gurl you cannot be a last minute lady in Florida. I live in South Florida and people were confused because locations that where used for early voting were CLOSED today. If you waited until Election Day to vote, you had to report your correct precinct to cast a vote in person!

by Anonymousreply 305November 6, 2018 11:26 PM

R296 Hopefully this means that dems are gonna do really well and WH is just trying to not have Trump and his voters blow the hell up.

Or they're just signaling that Russia is gonna fuck shit up again.

House races are vital r299, thats what we have to win.

KY6 is looking pretty good so far.

People who don’t vote on purpose really turn me off. I just don’t get that. It’s actually a fun thing to do.

by Anonymousreply 311November 6, 2018 11:27 PM

Weird, R290. Someone called in to the Michaelangelo Signorile show two days ago with your same exact story.

by Anonymousreply 312November 6, 2018 11:27 PM

If Florida goes blue I’m gonna spend some time there this winter. How refreshing that would be.

by Anonymousreply 313November 6, 2018 11:28 PM

R307, CNN has not called the Indiana Senate race.

Mike Pence's brother was elected in a House seat, though.

by Anonymousreply 314November 6, 2018 11:29 PM

We love you [R310]. Just don't screw it up!

by Anonymousreply 315November 6, 2018 11:29 PM

R307 No they don't Look at the key. That bright red means a lead of more than 10%. The colours won't change based on it being called, it's just about the current lead.

by Anonymousreply 316November 6, 2018 11:29 PM

[quote]Dade is reporting

Thanks, R303;.

It started just after I posted.

by Anonymousreply 317November 6, 2018 11:29 PM

Virginian here. Tim Kaine's win was a given. The race that has me chewing my knuckles is Dave Brat (vile Repug who won Eric Cantor's seat) vs. Dem/progressive Abigail Spanberger. He's a complete asshole. So hoping Spanberger pulls it out.

by Anonymousreply 318November 6, 2018 11:30 PM

R302 I'm in Colorado too. I've talked to so many people that don't know Polis is gay even though he is very open about it and takes his husband everywhere. No one here cares about his sexual orientation and I think that shows how much formerly red Colorado has changed for the better.

by Anonymousreply 359November 6, 2018 11:39 PM

Gwinnett County, GA is a voting mess. I live in the affluent northern end of the county (yes, predominantly white) and voted in 15 minutes. There were at least 10 voting machines. In the southern end of the county which are predominantly African American, there were three hour long waits with only three voting machines. More were brought in after it hit the news. They also didn't provide power cords in the minority areas so after the batteries in the voting machines died people weren't able to vote. It doesn't take an Einstein to see what was happening here.

The best thing was that Brian Kemp's voter card showed up as invalid when he tried to vote. I'm sure that they fixed it for him.

Race could be a factor in FL.

But part of it may also be that Nelson is better known than Gillum.

Nelson has been well-known in Florida for decades.

Gillum is new.

by Anonymousreply 485November 7, 2018 12:09 AM

Nelson has some popularity in the panhandle.

by Anonymousreply 488November 7, 2018 12:09 AM

I know it's early, but Georgia doesn't look good for Stacey. The vote suppression must be massive.

by Anonymousreply 489November 7, 2018 12:09 AM

Lots of central Florida still needs to be counted. Central Florida typically swings the state one way or another.

by Anonymousreply 490November 7, 2018 12:10 AM

I wouldn't put it past Trump to call Rick Scott and Vlad and tell them to hack those votes in Florida. He was probably looking at Gillum and sake fuck no!

I've given up hope of the Senate and for most of the governors.

by Anonymousreply 558November 7, 2018 12:25 AM

Remember, Nelson is the Senator that slipped that Russia was playing with the election in Florida...and it was confirmed. Im sorry, same with Georgia....there is no way that Kemp would be even tied with Abrams. Not to mention Cruz, who recent polling shows as leading. Cruz still uses Cambridge Analytica, Kemp plays his dirty tricks in the open, and its been repeatedly reported that the machines in Georgia were hacked.

We cannot keep allowing this shit to happen. And NO I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BELIEVE THERE ARE THAT MANY PEOPLE WHO WILL VOTE GOP WITH ALL THE SHIT THATS HAPPENED.

It was a huge mistake for Democrats not to have a cogent unifioed National Message and theme

by Anonymousreply 608November 7, 2018 12:33 AM

Blue wave has turned into a blue trickle.

by Anonymousreply 609November 7, 2018 12:33 AM

Trump is going to be insufferable.

They did. They ran on healthcare. They were remarkably on a unified message.

Why are we assuming that these are hidden voters and not just vote manipulation? We knew they were going to do it.

by Anonymousreply 612November 7, 2018 12:35 AM

If the blue waves peters out yet again, we really do have to adjust our forecasting/expectations about progressives. Talks/types big on social media but never fucking shows up in actual results.

They lied, r607.

Nelson & Gillum can still win Florida since there are a lot of votes left in Broward & Miami-Dade.

by Anonymousreply 615November 7, 2018 12:36 AM

Agree R612. Funny how the polls always turn out to be wrong in favor of Repubs.

Carville hasn’t aged since 2016. He’s looked exactly the same for years now. Is he a vampire or something?

Immigration. Trump's strategy working, though based on fears and lies. Perez laughed it off, and it is costly.

Nate SIlver: "Well, I'm trying to do 6 things at once -- we think our live election day forecast is definitely being too aggressive and are going to put it on a more conservative setting where it waits more for projections/calls instead of making inferences from partial vote counts."

Thanks, Nate, for almost giving me a heart attack.

Poster upthread made a great point. How do we know if these are actual votes or manipulated tallies?
