WW OP!

Thank you for not including fatso in your OP.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 6, 2018 5:16 AM |
I just think this is going to be a crazy week. We're all focused for the next 24 hours on the elections but right after that we could get new indictments and new firings in the Trump administration
by Saturday we probably won't be talking about the elections anymore
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 6, 2018 5:17 AM |
He is included you'd just have expand the photo to get his girth.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 6, 2018 5:27 AM |
Clever name OP.
I am so fucking nervous about what will or won't happen today.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 6, 2018 5:30 AM |
I hear you, R8. I'll be turning most everything off starting in the afternoon.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 6, 2018 5:31 AM |
Ivanka and Melania have the same tits. Same surgeon?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 6, 2018 5:44 AM |
ugh on CNN they just showed the creepy way Trump introduced Ivanka at his rally tonight. Why is he obsessed with her looks? Is it because he knows she's his daughter and he wants to fuck himself?

From the last thread:
What does the Senate race in AZ look like?
Currently it's just about a dead heat, McSally leading by about a point.
I hear you, [R8]. I'll be turning most everything off starting in the afternoon.
Misread that as you'll be turning moist.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 6, 2018 5:59 AM |
Dead heats are very rare. This is usually said when the Republicans are losing, and they have to explain why their candidate suddenly pulled ahead just enough to win.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 6, 2018 6:34 AM |
Kinda off-topic, but his face-to-face with Cruz is delicious.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 6, 2018 12:43 PM |
R14. Just so true. Somehow the Rs are going to win record-setting, across the board victories by slim margins. Many media outlets may have already called wins for Dems until a sudden surge by their Repug opponents snatch victories from them. Then Rachel, Don, Anderson, et all, will cry foul and Trump will call them "sore losers".
I hope I'm wrong about this.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 6, 2018 1:35 PM |
sure you do, R16....why waste your time posting up such bullshit when you can be outside in the rain praying on it?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 6, 2018 3:59 PM |
Who has voted already?
If you went to your polling place today and wouldn't mind sharing what state and what the polls looked like/ what the vibe was, I'd be interested in hearing it!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 6, 2018 4:08 PM |
I love Beto. Wish I could write his name in on my ballot
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 6, 2018 4:08 PM |
Haven't voted yet here in Michigan. But excited too. Leaving work early today
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 6, 2018 4:09 PM |
Voted in Cleveland at 6:30 this morning. Line out the door, which was quite unusual that early. I’d say about two-thirds were women.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 6, 2018 4:20 PM |
My NYC polling place was crazy this morning and there's not even competitive races in my neighborhood.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 6, 2018 4:20 PM |
Connecticut 7:30 am, more votes cast by 7:30am than we usually get all day! Lines out the door.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 6, 2018 4:25 PM |
Long Beach, NY 7:09 AM. There are never lines although there are occasionally shenanigans. It was hopping for a midterm despite the lack of competitive races. Good vibe.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 6, 2018 4:34 PM |
For those of you who went to your polling places to vote today... any indication if there were more Democrats vs Rethugs turning out?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 6, 2018 4:57 PM |
I’m in Charleston sc today for a conference, barely a soul going in or out of the polling place near me. Downtown location.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 6, 2018 5:05 PM |
Trump sending many thousands of U.S. military personnel to the border is a huge waste of money and is nothing but a political ploy. There needs to be consequences.
This caravan is not the Chinese army.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 6, 2018 5:48 PM |
It's about fear and hatemongering. Keeping people scared that those socilist Liberals will let those illegal Aliens in and then allow them to take over your own home and rape you and your family members with the consent of these socialist Liberals while poor, dear Trump's hands are tied.

by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 6, 2018 6:07 PM |
Who is this Mueller that you keep mentioning? Voted 7:15 Philly Burbs, short line.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 6, 2018 6:50 PM |
R25 I vote in the Mississippi Delta. More Dem's (people of color ) showed up . I went hella early (like 8:30) and about 40% of the voter roll book was filled.
The Mississippi Delta is MS's blue region. Approximately 1/3 of the counties in MS are blue and most are along the Mississippi River. When I drove around I could tell the rain here didn't deter people of color. I also volunteered in DeSoto County b/c it is Shelby County, TN's sister county. The ballot shows up as a special election and it doesn't tell you who is what party. I really think Cindy Hyde-Smith is going to lose because Chris McDaniel is going to steal some of her votes.

by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 6, 2018 8:14 PM |
Just voted in Michigan. I think it's going to be a big win for Democrats. Wittmore for Govenor and Debbie Stabenow to stay as Senator. Schuette was slime poisoning the people of Flint. Big lines

I have a good feeling for Beto

I can't stand it right now. I'm freaking nervous!
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 6, 2018 9:58 PM |
Just a reminder for those watching live results:
Yes. There's already proof. I work in the industry. I sat in a meeting with the head of cyber security investigations for the FBI in Florida. Their systems were hacked in 2016. What's difficult is proving that (or more accurately stated "how") the votes were manipulated. But go back to election night and remember how Trump pulled ahead in Florida, NC, MI, PA and WI. It happened almost like clock work once the precincts reporting crossed the 50% threshold. This shit is deep. Putin had already done this in his own election and also in Ukraine. We should be very worried about the EU elections coming up.
Pay attention and see if you notice any funny stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 6, 2018 10:35 PM |
That's your cue, Mr. Muller...
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 7, 2018 10:29 AM |
What a night! I'm giddy in anticipation of the damage a Dem House can do to Trump and the GOP! Don't let me down, you guys!
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 7, 2018 10:31 AM |
Last night was rough to start out. Glad we pulled it out.
Am I the only one though that feels like the Repugs didn't care about the House and for some reason (obviously nefarious) decided it was worth more to use their cheating resources to secure the Senate?
Part of me feels like (and wouldn't be surprised) if they "let" Dems take the House in an effort to cover up for their cheating and stealing seats in the Senate.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 7, 2018 1:09 PM |
So Dotard is out there saying that if Dems start investigating he'll be forced to start investigating them.
uh.
Isn't that obstruction?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 7, 2018 1:20 PM |
r41, probably, but whatever, Trump literally gets away with EVERYTHING he says.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 7, 2018 1:27 PM |
So first Nancy Pelosi and now Eric Swalwell both say investigations into Orange Fuckface are not on the agenda, and that bi-partisanship will be the order of the day, because God knows when Democrats try to work with Republicans, the Republicans work with the Dems and everything is just peachy keen. Oh and look, Eric even wants to work with Drumpf himself! That will work out well.
So glad I worked so hard and for so long to try to turn Congress blue again.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 7, 2018 1:32 PM |
That's exactly what they should be saying today, R43. It's what they should continue to say even as they launch investigations of Trump and his cabinet.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 7, 2018 1:46 PM |
What's old is what's new, the same dog tired faces in leadership roles for the Dems. God I hate being a Democrat.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 7, 2018 1:51 PM |
God I hate being a Democrat.
Then it's a good thing you're not.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 7, 2018 1:54 PM |
The Democrats bark is worse than their bite. I’m afraid the Democrats will be weak in the House and start being nice to the Republicans.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 7, 2018 1:58 PM |
Hey ya'll just wondering if anyone here has heard if I'm still employed?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 7, 2018 2:17 PM |
Nancy said that they'll investigate corruption and the like by the administration. Start with the low-hanging fruit of Zinke and the like. Then if Mueller delivers, go for the kill.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 7, 2018 2:39 PM |
Will the midterms being over affect the midterms?!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | November 7, 2018 2:47 PM |
The Nixon Blueprint, give the Mueller Report to the House.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 7, 2018 2:48 PM |
So first Nancy Pelosi and now Eric Swalwell both say investigations into Orange Fuckface are not on the agenda, and that bi-partisanship will be the order of the day
Who do they say things like this? Sure you have to hammer out stuff with the other side to get stuff done. But why state you won't go for investigations?
I wonder how many democrats who say shit like this republicans can now count on voting with them.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 7, 2018 2:55 PM |
We are now in the Lame Duck of this Congress.
Trump retains control of of Congress until Jan 3rd.
They are saying anything to keep Trump from make more of a mess before the new House is seated.
Patience, puppies, patience.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 7, 2018 3:00 PM |
r44, with all due respect, I don't trust Nancy Pelosi to launch an investigation into anything, not when the last time she could have her answer was "Impeachment is off the table."
by Anonymous | reply 54 | November 7, 2018 3:13 PM |
Well he's speaking at 11: 30 this morning r53, so they better get a lid on him fast.
Because we ALL know how much he's going to gloat.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | November 7, 2018 3:16 PM |
I don't know r48, why don't you go and ask your boss (while he still is your boss) and find out?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | November 7, 2018 3:17 PM |
Why the fuck would Nancy and the Democrats play their hand so early. It is time for Mueller to come out swinging and take a few heads off
by Anonymous | reply 57 | November 7, 2018 3:17 PM |
Just a reminder....the states where Dems lost, Fla and Ga, both had obvious election suppression and tampering.....both should be investigated.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | November 7, 2018 3:22 PM |
R40, that's ridiculous. By losing the House, the Republicans lost their ability to protect Trump and advance their legislative agenda. They have gained no power in the Senate that they did not already have.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | November 7, 2018 3:23 PM |
R59 not ridiculous. It makes it much easier for them to place lifetime appointments on Courts, to start.
Clear some more cookies though.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | November 7, 2018 3:26 PM |
r60 = stalker
by Anonymous | reply 61 | November 7, 2018 3:28 PM |
R61 whatever you need to tell yourself to distract from your trolling.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | November 7, 2018 3:29 PM |
I agree with R44, the DEMs need to say they will work with Trump if he has a good idea - which he never does. Infrastructure is the only place I can see them working with them but Trump wants it all privatized. D's conduct investigations in tandem with lip service. Drumpf is such a fucking baby he will probably refuse to work with D's anyway, especially if they're investigating him. Then there is the Senate. Let's face it, ain't shit gonna get done and we will be in recession in 2019.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | November 7, 2018 3:50 PM |
r62 = paranoid schizophrenic seeing boogey men everywhere. you're a sick fuck.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | November 7, 2018 3:52 PM |
You seem really bothered, R64. You should examine that.

by Anonymous | reply 66 | November 7, 2018 3:53 PM |
The Ds should beat them to the chase by unveiling a huge infrastructure bill day one. Let the Rs nix it at their own peril. Same with ACA and DACA. They should reveal the Rs as the true obstructionists.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | November 7, 2018 3:53 PM |

Trump lying and spinning his way through a press conference right now. But very low energy. Sad!

Didn't McTurtle say that if Clinton were made President they would start Day 1 by Investigating her?
by Anonymous | reply 73 | November 7, 2018 4:06 PM |
Trump is so petty -- calling out by name the Republicans who didn't ask him to campaign for them and lost.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | November 7, 2018 4:08 PM |
Trump is in an awfully foul mood given that he's claiming the midterms were a huge victory for him.

He's scared. He better be.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | November 7, 2018 4:28 PM |

Agreed. It's time the GOP is out on the defensive. Infrastructure ACA anything reasonable. Trump himself has no idea what's going on. This will make him lash out wildly and dig them all into a deeper hole.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | November 7, 2018 4:32 PM |

R81 That’s pretty much what he did say.
Am I the only one though that feels like the Repugs didn't care about the House and for some reason (obviously nefarious) decided it was worth more to use their cheating resources to secure the Senate?
Yeah. I think the Russian objective this time was the Senate. It wasn't to increase their power because the Senate have a couple more Repugs doesn't really make any difference. It was to create chaos and make sure that there is still some sort of backstop to impede investigations and legislation concerning Russian interference and sanctions.
Why would people go to the polls in the same state, vote a bunch of Dems into the House, pass a bunch of progressive initiatives, and then vote for Repug Senators by small percentages? Makes no sense. Florida, Georgia, Ohio, and Missouri need to be investigated. Kemp from Georgian needs to be indicted for election tampering.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | November 7, 2018 5:05 PM |
Add Texas to the list they need to investigate.
All Russia has to do to keep Trump in office in 2020 is be able to fix the elections in Florida, Ohio, and Texas and make sure he holds Missouri and Iowa, etc. Tonight was the trial run for 2020. That's why they didn't fuck with the House races. Those don't matter for 2020's presidential election.

Matt Miller: This is the worst replacement in terms of the Mueller investigation. Whittaker has aligned himself with Trump on the investigation and will stifle it. He needs to recuse himself from overseeing Mueller because of his statements against the investigation.

R92 Yep. He's already let his opinion be known at CNN last year:
by Anonymous | reply 94 | November 7, 2018 7:06 PM |
We're drafting the subpoenas to drag Sessions and Whittaker in front of the Committee as we speak.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | November 7, 2018 7:08 PM |
The Acting AG is temporary. He must be confirmed by the Senate.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | November 7, 2018 7:08 PM |
Jerry Nadler: Any move to handicap the Mueller investigation puts all options on the table.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | November 7, 2018 7:09 PM |
There's no way Whittaker will recuse himself. Trump wouldn't have nominated him if he hadn't gotten him to say he wouldn't. Trump wouldn't make that mistake twice.
Impeachment isn't going to happen. We would need the Senate for that. And Dems do not vote in lockstep like Republicans do.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | November 7, 2018 7:11 PM |
He got so many questions about why he doesn't just end the Mueller investigation today.
I'm sure he left the podium and immediately fired Sessions.

News flash - Trump just fired Jeff Sessions. That didn't take long.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | November 7, 2018 7:36 PM |
Unless they literally kill Mueller, everything he’s uncovered to date will be made public. All the Democrat-controlled House needs to do is invite him to publically testify. They can do that now.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | November 7, 2018 7:37 PM |
I think Mueller, if called to publicly testify, would end up saying he couldn't answer things because they are still under federal investigation. He's too honorable to not do that.

Remember, Don McGhan isn't there anymore. I'm not even sure he's been replaced. It's likely that neither Trump nor Kelly knew that that simple wording in the resignation letter determines who replaces Sessions when they accepted it. If he's fired, which Sessions made clear he was in that letter, then Trump doesn't get who he wants.

Rosenstein summoned to white house this afternoon. Reporting that Whitaker will now oversee Mueller

Trump wants to destroy the investigation before the Dem House takes over.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | November 7, 2018 7:51 PM |
If they fire Mueller, the House can just appoint him to essentially resurrect the investigation in January.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | November 7, 2018 7:51 PM |
R109, DOJ has rules of succession in case of dismissal / firing, and the Acting AG should be the #2, Rosenstein. But in case of resignations, there is another act under which the president can appoint someone else qualified. This is why Cheeto appointed Whitaker.
Commentators speculate the wording of the resignation "at your request" amounts to a dismissal / firing. Therefore, it isn't exactly legal to appoint Whittaker. But Cheeto will do what he wants and it's debatable if anything can be done even if it's illegal.

by Anonymous | reply 115 | November 7, 2018 7:55 PM |
R113 I think Trump's strategy is that the firing will make him look "strong" and if the Dem House starts an investigation, he can then more easily characterize it as a Dem "witch hunt". I mean given that he knows independent voters have largely abandoned him, his only road to re-election is to strengthened his hold on Republicans by whipping up their victim mentality and party loyalty.

R117 The framers of the Constitution put too much faith in the American people. The president is sort of nebulously sits above the law. It was assumed that a person who could get through the process of being elected president was unlikely to abuse his power. Even so, checks were put in place, but the kind of looking the other way/hyper partisanship we see on the part of the GOP was not predicted.
The checks worked with Nixon. But not this time, it would seem.

I will say that I'm a little confused at the firing. What is Drumpfy scared of? He has the Senate filled with other guilty MF'ers who are going to protect him so what does he think is going to happen to him?
What CAN happen to him?
by Anonymous | reply 126 | November 7, 2018 8:11 PM |
He wants to end the Mueller investigation, which is a boat anchor around the neck of his administration. He gets some protection from the senate but there are many ways the investigation can hurt him, and his family, that the senate can do nothing about.

He has to move quickly R126 because I'm pretty sure this is just the first of a ton of shit he's going to do before January.
Question: If this is Trump's Saturday Night Massacre, will anything happen with these criminal Repugs still in charge of the Senate? If Nixon had this Senate, he would not have had to resign as far as I'm concerned. This is Watergate (only worse) without even a single Repug with a conscience or any respect for the rule of law.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | November 7, 2018 8:16 PM |

Is there anything that can be done to stop them from passing everything they want in the next two months? Usually, decorum and tradition mean that the lame duck House wouldn't do anything big but these fuckers don't care about that. Ryan wants to kill SS and Medicare. This is his last chance.

That's why he fired Sessions today. As CNN's Toobin pointed out, he could even give him until Friday, he had to make him leave on a Wednesday. To humiliate him further. One thing is sure. IF Whittaker doesn't give him perfect absolute loyalty and block Mueller, Whittaker will be dead in the water too. I don't like Whittaker. The admin decided that the investigation needed to end before dems took the House. Understandable considering the implications. They are in charge of FBI oversight after all.
So they decide to have a huge circus like press conference as a distraction while Sessions was canned. They immediately sidelined Rosenstien and have since become privy to all the evidence Mueller has.
So now they know what the goods are so expect Ghouliani to make some appearances soon to counter the newly discovered evidence.

He was essentially recused from the investigation the moment Sessions recused himself. There is also everything that Mueller has placed in various state AG offices throughout the eastern seaboard. Whittaker has nothing.

What on earth makes you think they have "since become privy to all the evidence Mueller has"? You think the new guy has suddenly, magically managed to find out everything about the Mueller investigation (which he didn't know before, he worked for the recused Sessions) and passed it on to Trump? He's a prosecutor. He empaneled a grand jury, he has indicted people already, and he will indict more people. As someone duly authorized to investigate and prosecute, he can indict anyone he as evidentiary reasons to believe is guilty of a crime. The oversight of Rosenstein or anyone else was to act as a safeguard that the rules are being followed, the law is being followed, and the guidelines for the Special Prosecutor are being followed. They were put in place to safeguard the exact thing Trump is trying to do. Trump would indict people or investigate people for phony political reasons and he would subjectively ignore people who are in fact guilty of crimes. Rosenstein's function was to make sure the law and the rules were followed and the investigation was conducted in the letter and spirit of the law with integrity. He could not legally stop Mueller from indicting some one they believed guilty of criminal wrong doing All Mueller was really required to do is report his findings to Rosenstein, not get Rosenstein's approval to act as judge and jury.

Interesting....Maddow is reporting that Mueller has to report to Whitaker.....and Whitaker can stop or prevent any action Mueller wants to take. This is all so crazy. Of course the new guy has reviewed the evidence by now. Hello, that’s what any new AG would do. They would demand a detailed update, and the council would comply (?) and couldn’t tell the press.
It’s all happening before our eyes. What do you think they are doing right now? They’re not sitting around waiting to be rounded up. The Council’s office has probably been raided by now. It’s not like we would know.
Why do you think the dems put out the warning about preserving evidence today.

I don't think so, R261. These are grand jury indictments in multiple states. The grand juries have already been empaneled and found that there was enough evidence to move forward and indict. They sealed them to keep them out of the public record because they are highly material to the ongoing investigation.

They are all attempting to cover for this. But there are cracks and the cracks are getting larger because Trump and his minions, due to the election results, cannot control all branches of the government any longer and Mueller just has to stand there silently for Trump to slowly.go bats*t insane. When Mueller comes down, it will be meticulously perfect. And he will pick his time and it will be a perfect time. He knows what’s at stake. You notice, there are no leaks happening on his end. My bet is that Mueller has already filed the indictments of Jr, Stone, etc., and possibly even Trump, but that these indictments are currently sealed. What I don't understand/have knowledge on is the process by which these indictments can be unsealed. Does Mueller still need to be in place to do it, or can others from the DoJ do it? Any of our DL Wise Ones care to enlighten us on this?
by Anonymous | reply 274 | November 9, 2018 8:29 AM |
Okay, just found this:
The only question is whether they got the grand jury to approve whatever indictments they were working on. I’d be surprised if Mueller didn’t (unless Rod Rosenstein prevented him from doing so).
If that’s the case, then Whitaker is not going to help Trump get out of his legal troubles. That’s because Chief Judge Beryl Howell, not Whitaker, will make the decision about unsealing anything sealed in this grand jury investigation.
FWIW, I'd be astonished if Rosenstein has been obstructing Mueller's processes. Surely we would have heard about that by now if he were. So it looks like Whitaker can't obstruct the unsealing of the indictments. If the Trump cabal is already indicted (surely likely, Mueller is not an idiot), the process cannot be stopped by Trump's latest attempts at obstruction. Of course Trump's such a fucking idiot he would not be aware of any of this.
by Anonymous | reply 275 | November 9, 2018 8:40 AM |
Chief Judge Beryl Howell, because apparently she could be important...
She was nominated by President Barack Obama on July 14, 2010 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 22, 2010. She received her judicial commission on December 27, 2010. She became Chief Judge on March 17, 2016. A 2015 analysis by Ravel Law found Howell to be the second most-cited district court judge appointed in the past five years.

For those saying "what if Mueller doesn’t find anything":
Just ask yourself why Trump is working so hard to discredit/destroy Mueller’s investigation. No one does that unless they have something to hide.
The bigger worry is whether the new guy can stop Mueller from indicting anyone. That’s where I’m fuzzy.

by Anonymous | reply 278 | November 9, 2018 10:09 AM |
From my reading of the link at R275 R277 it seems that if there are already sealed indictments then no, he doesn't have that power - it resides in the judge overseeing the grand jury. But, if they haven't been issued yet then he is the one who makes the decision on whether or not to indict. So we just have to hope that Mueller and Rossenstein foresaw all the possibilities of what Trump might do that would remove Rossenstein from his position of overseeing the investigation and make plans accordingly. They are smart and Trump and his advisers are not so here's hoping.

by Anonymous | reply 284 | November 9, 2018 10:47 AM |
I agree with R269 up to a point and I am in no ways a Boris. I have repeatedly said for the past year or more, that Trump has done plenty to deserve impeachment without ever waiting on Mueller. My point is that Congress needs to act. His obvious ethical conflicts of interest, the placing of children in cages, taking them away from their parents, and any number of other things we have put up with, gotten used to, or otherwise permitted are grounds for serious action.
The fact that he does not provide any transcripts of his meetings and we have no idea what goes on with North Korea, China, or Russia is very worrying. These irresponsible tariffs and trade wars are dangerous. I pointed this out before: Iowa farmers: Will have a great crop of soy beans this year. But their ability to sell them has dropped by 94%. Yet this action has helped Russia tremendously.
Trump arbitrarily deciding to cancel a long standing treaty with Russia on Nuclear weapons as he recently announced. His interest in tampering with Birthright Citizenship. Go back to the beginning of this Presidency and start cataloging his excesses. This recent appointment of Whitaker is just the latest thing. The Executive Branch is completely out of control. I don't give a fuck how angry McConnell gets at protesters. I don't care how many times his dinner is disrupted. It is time for Congress to act.
And if they're at all honest with themselves, all they have to do is look at what a liability he was during the midterms. He fucked them. IMO the base has shrunk so much that without suppression, fraud, and gerrymandering they couldn't get elected dog catcher. And yet the media treats this as if it is normal. Business as usual. Two party system. The Republican Party is gone. It was hijacked by a minority of a minority.
There has to be a legal way to stand up to Trump and push back NOW. Waiting for some "Constitutional crisis" or for some future date or future development is folly. He will keep getting worse and getting stronger. The longer we put up with this the harder it will be to undo it. We are not a mob. We are not "radicals." And the news is not fake. We should be setting up tents on Mitch McConnell's lawn and every other Republican. This Lame Duck Session can act to do something. At the very least they can insist Whitaker be removed and legislation passed to protect Mueller.

If the appointment of Whitaker is un-Constitutional and essentially illegal, as many legal scholars including Kellyanne Conway's husband have said, is there any recourse other than via the Senate? I'm not American so have a limited understanding of how your system works but are there any avenues through the law courts that, if nothing else, would put a temporary hold on what that big thuggish AG can do? Seems odd that the President can make an illegal appointment and there is no way to stop that other than one arm of the govt? Your post popped up R286 as I was typing mine.
by Anonymous | reply 287 | November 9, 2018 11:52 AM |
Once a brief is filed with the Court only the court can decide whether to unseal it.
As I think about it, Rosenstein has know Whitaker for a while. He isn't "new." They have known about this scenario as a real possibility for a few months. I'm sure they took whatever measures they could to do damage control. Mueller doesn't leak, true, but the FBI has been know to engage in "strategic leaks" from time to time. There's a whole lot of dirt coming out about Whitaker and I will not be very shocked if, at some point they find a connection to Manafort. THey're already talking about his fake Extreme Right "organization" F.A.C.T. and how it was funded and he was paid with Dark Money for three years. So Whitaker is a sleeper cell. Bet money.
by Anonymous | reply 288 | November 9, 2018 12:08 PM |

But in a time when it seems all your norms, rules and laws are being trampled on, for the moment he Whittaker can obstruct as much as he wants as no-one with the power to challenge his appointment seems to be doing so. Trump 'fired' Sessions, appointed Whittaker, shifted Rossenstein to the side and it doesn't seem like anything can be done about it at the present time, which allows him a window to do a lot of damage with no accountability.

Newsweek....
But Figliuzzi told the anchor of The 11th Hour, Brian Williams, he had “a theory” that Mueller has already indicated what he is going to do.
“I think he’s ready to indict some folks and through those indictments will tell the story of what he’s found against the president.
“I’m not saying he’s indicting the president. I’m saying there’s a middle ground where he tells us the story, locks it into the court system by indicting others, then files a report with Whitaker,” he added.
“Perhaps what we’ll see is Bob Mueller telling us the story of a corrupt president through indictments.”
Figliuzzi also suggested that Mueller knows his days are numbered and so would act soon.

I think the question from the Court may involve whether Rosenstein's order remains valid in the wake of Sessions' departure and Whittaker taking over.
I'd say it does. There are dozens of orders still in place at DOJ that were issued by prior AGs. They are in effect until they are rescinded.

Georgia's Brian Kemp Decides To Dox Absentee Voters, Revealing Why They All Voted Absentee
from the voting-irregularities dept
Kind of a key part of the American election setup is the concept of a secret ballot for hopefully obvious reasons. We haven't gone quite so far as eliminating that, but down in Georgia, Secretary of State Brian Kemp (who was running for governor at the same time as he was overseeing the integrity of the election and also putting in place a bunch of attempts at voter suppression) has doxxed hundreds of thousands (291,164 to be exact) of absentee voters by posting an Excel file on the state's website listing out the names, addresses and reasons why they voted absentee.
In typical spokesperson Candice Broce fashion (see her previous nonsensical quotes defending her boss), Broce/Kemp denied that there's anything wrong with this at all. The systems, they are all working perfectly:
When reached, Georgia secretary of state’s press secretary Candice Broce told TechCrunch that all of the data “is clearly designated as public information under state law,” and denied that the data was “confidential or sensitive.”
“State law requires the public availability of voter lists, including names and address of registered voters,” she said in an email.
While it is true that voter name and address info is required to be made available, it is usually not made available in aggregate for anyone to just download without restrictions. And, it's especially concerning that they released the reasons for voting absentee just a day or so after the election -- as people pointed out that this could be quite useful info for criminals looking for who might be away from their homes.
More concerning, of course, is the idea that this could scare off future voters as well who don't want such info being released in such a manner.
Either way, the idea that the Secretary of State, who kept insisting how wonderful his electronic voting systems were, would then release a giant Excel spreadsheet should again raise questions about the technological skills of whoever set up the system, let alone Kemp for overseeing such a system.

WSJ: Donald Trump Played Central Role in Hush Payoffs to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal
The article is behind a paywall, but here's the gist from a Boston TV station:
Federal prosecutors in New York have gathered evidence that shows President Donald Trump participated in so-called hush money payments made to women who claimed to have had sexual encounters with him before his presidency, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Citing a slew of unidentified sources, the newspaper reported that Trump “intervened directly to suppress stories about his alleged sexual encounters with women,” coordinating with American Media Inc.’s chief executive, David Pecker. American Media publishes the National Enquirer.
The Journal reported the coordination might have violated campaign-finance laws.

I have a bit of a stupid question... I’ve read that there are 100 sealed indictments not issued yet. I’m assuming that each indictment is a charge—is that correct? Not an indictment per person?
by Anonymous | reply 317 | November 9, 2018 7:47 PM |
One indictment can contain multiple charges, multiple counts . For interest it might say: Donald J Trump, Jr. has been indicted on 20 counts of Obstruction of justice: And four counts of conspiracy to defraud the American people by assisting a foreign power in interfering with our elections. " So that would be 24.
Now if there are 100 indictments that may mean that there are ten people with multiple counts. At least I think that's how it works. Not exactly certain. Where is our Legal Staff?

In which universe will he intimidate them with paper?
I believe the Media and the Democrats still are not recognizing what we are dealing with. They are underestimating the Evil we're are faced with. And we saw how Whitaker was illegally appointed. And there are many more... there will be a Constitutional crisis before this is over, because Drump will not comply with any legal moves that the House will take. Will Republicans choose their country over their party and try and do something about it? Well, we know their track record so far. Strategy will be key—I know Democrat’s are already discussing this, but it may come down to what you said—US Marshall’s enforcing the law of the land.

A few days ago I posted something about Murdoch's meeting with Mitch McConnell and what it may have been about, and also gave a bit of background on the role of the Murdoch press (Sky News and News Corp) in the recent overthrowing of our PM here in Australia. At the time I wondered if the meeting may have been because Murdoch feels Trump's usefulness has come to an end and he's becoming a liability. Their meeting was just after the mid-terms and I doubt Murdoch visits the leader of your Senate just for a chat and a cup of tea. He's a busy man so I'd suspect his in-person meetings are always about matters of import to him. by Anonymous | reply 386 | November 10, 2018 2:44 PM |
Congress, both the House and Senate, with their very weak responses to Trump, provide the climate for this to be done. They need to be responding now, forcefully, and not just when the Democrats control the House in January. There once was 'Hell to Pay' words once used by the flipping and the ethical deficient Miss Lindsey.
In the past, before Trump, the Senate would be adamant they hold hearings and have a confirmation vote on any individual holding such a critical cabinet position. This applied even when the Senate majority and President were of the same party. They would insist on a nominee immediately, and would not put-up with an acting AG lingering beyond a couple of weeks and making profound decisions; particularly a person who has never been vetted and confirmed by the Senate for anything.
McConnell should be totally ashamed. This is a terrible precedent, undermining the powers of the legislative branch and the checks 'n balances intended in the Constitution. Schummer needs to be way tougher, much more outspoken, and organizing aggressive action.
America has become Putinized.
by Anonymous | reply 387 | November 10, 2018 2:50 PM |
Well, in all honesty Mc Connell and Ryan own a large portion of this mess. They do nothing. They have given Trump a blank check. That's why I'm not optimistic about the Democrats in the House and their "investigations " and their subpoenas. It would not be the first time in history someone ignores a subpoena. And if they do, WTF can Congress do about it?
A House committee subpoenas me and I say, "no thanks." Then what? Tell me what happens. They are held in "contempt of Congress." Fine. Then what? They do not go to jail. They do not get fined. They do not get arrested. Nothing happens. All I'm saying is that Swallwell and others like Schiff, are overselling their ability to reign him in. Now media exposure, live hearings, etc. may change public opinion, but hell, public opinion is already against Trump. And he and GOP leadership don't care.
I'm not letting Trump off the hook. I despise him. I'm convinced he is a monster. But think about this. Here is a man who is a celebrity. He becomes POTUS. The leaders of his party had an obligation, once they decided to work with him, to insist that he work with them. That he learn and understand government processes, traditions, procedures, rules, etc. And they needed to hold him to account.
I believe they underestimated him. They thought they were going to get a narcissistic, lazy asshole who wanted the ceremony but refused to do the work. They'd call all the shots. But they bargained with the Devil. He is all the things they thought he was, but he also wanted to be a very hands on POTUS. He thought he could run the show. Once he figured out who he was dealing with, he grew confident and is now "unleashed." They don't know how to deal with him, so they just give in. Throw up their hands and give in.. Path of least resistance.
They ought to be horror struck. They should have been out here along with everyone else urging every voter to vote Democratic . What I don't get is that they ignore the math. If those assholes had tacked to the center just a little, moderated their actions, their policies just a bit, they could have peeled off the independents and "ex-Republicans" to more than make up for whatever they lost of the MAGAs. Instead they keep playing to the same shrinking base. Fuck them all, I hope they all go to prison. As Hillary said, the reason they didn't speak out or try to stop Trump is because they agree with him. They just express it differently.

For me the biggest problem is that Trump will inspire other Trumps to follow in his footsteps, because since nothing bad happens to Trump they will use their position to enrich themselves and screw over the rest and nobody is going to prevent it from happening. There is no way of making an example of Trump to scare off copycats. Nobody is making anything to prevent another Trump to rise to power, because the Democratic owned House is not able to work with the GOP owned Senate. And the US citizens get more frustrated, because they really feel more and more powerless (but of course they will not do anything, because that would cut in their Netflix, or watching Reality TV, schedule).

But it makes sense on a few levels - they had to be meeting about something important and the implications of the mid-term results are not good for the GOP with key demographics like the suburban areas seeming to have soured on Trump. I agree it will start subtly - reporting negative stories and maybe a few critical editorials in the WSJ. Hannity and Ingraham will probably remain suck-ups for a long while but they're just a part of Murdoch's empire - there's plenty of other ways and platforms for slowly starting to create doubt about him. As you say they've got their tax cuts, they've also got two judges, so maybe they now think well he'll create more damage than he's worth going forward. Guess we'll just have to wait and see if there's a change in the tone of the coverage but Murdoch's smart, and he'd know when the signs are telling him to distance his empire from the emperor with no clothes.

There could be a Republican backlash before 2020. They may try to get behind a Romney-Rubio ticket. It depends if matters get so bad, the GOP establishment cannot continue to ignore the growing dangers.
Trump is getting more and more unhinged. He is getting more autocratic in a dangerous way. Even WH insiders have secretly reported his disturbing behavior.
Trump doesn't even hide his blatant moves to shut down Mueller. If this country's watchdogs (in the Legislative and Judicial branches) allow these associated characters to get away with multiple felonies, inclusive perhaps of high treason, American democracy is gone as we knew it.
The media better stop the entertainment aspect of reporting on DJT antics, and assertively probe and convey to the nation what is really happening.
Unlike many here, I am not thrilled with all the delay and procrastination; and the timid treatment of Trump in trying to get him interviewed on record. Stone, Junior, Jared, etc. should have already been indicted if Mueller has all the goods on them. Yet, the media is conveying Mueller is now writing his final report; a report now to be delivered sealed to Trump lackey, Whitaker.
Where are the indictments?

She's the one, if any of his offspring would, would do it. But she wouldn't either as she's probably the type who will spend the rest of her life looking for his approval and to be treated like the others.

We need a Kasich or a Romney to lead a third conservative party for 2020 and draw the true conservatives away from Trump, splitting the vote and giving the Democrats a sure win. Not really worried about either one. If Romney challenges tRump for the nomination, it will tear what is left of the Rethuglican Party apart; It will be Trumptards versus NeverTrumpers. And they will not reconcile after the convention. Whichever side loses will be a disaster for the Repukes.
Plus, they won't have anything to run on. If Cheatolini hasn't been able to accomplish anything (other than the misguided tax cuts) in two years of Repub rule of all branches of government, then he's not going to get much done with a divided Congress in the next 24 months.

It would be a nice touch if Putin would walk into his dark, cold cell and say, "You thought we were friends?" and then slap him really hard and leave with an evil laugh resonating off the dirty walls.

Trump doesn't get it. He tweeted all this bullshit from France about what a great guy Whitaker is. He cannot afford to pick fights on too many fronts. He must not fully appreciate the legal jeopardy he is in. If the Senators tell him Whitaker needs to go, or at the very least recuse himself and he may not in any way fuck with Mueller, then Trump needs to pull Whitaker out ASAP and come up with someone more permanent. And anyone remotely connected to his campaign or transition would have to recuse as well.

In 2016 the deal was cemented. The forigners would hack and leak the dems in exchange for support for foreign agenda. (See republican platform 2016)
Since then other deals have been made. The ripping up of the nuclear treaty in October was the last big deal. What did they get for that? Florida? Georgia?
So many republicans are in on this. So many.

They're still screaming "Lock her up!" at Trump rallies. Whitaker would definitely try to use the Justice Department to attack political enemies. A careful reading of our history would show that such things are more than possible; they've been done before. I would suggest, if you're interested, look into Paul Robeson. Robeson was an extraordinary man. He was an All American Athlete, He was a Phi Beta Kappa, (Princeton & Columbia) he was a lawyer, and a singer, and an actor. He was also a political activist of the Left.
He used his celebrity to raise money for striking coal miners, and supported Labor. He was a Communist . (At their peak the Communist Party in the USA had no more than 10,000 active members and posed no threat to our government.) Organized Labor was and still remains a target of the Right. Anyway, the House Committee on Unamerican Activities traveled the country holding hearings and drumming up publicity to scare the public much like the Right does today with immigrants.
The Justice Department and the FBI were engaged in spying,, harassing, even arresting and attacking people who "sympathized" with the Left. The movie "Trumbo" covered some of it. Robeson was called to testify. He defied the committee to their faces, protesting the wholesale lynchings of Black people, etc. The DoJ paid off Black people like Marcus Garvey because he was "a nationalist" who wanted to go back to Africa. Robeson was different. He was inclusive. He reached out to white people and worked with them.
They barred Robeson from performing here. Refused to let him sing. (He sang primarily folk songs, including international. He spoke several foreign languages.) He was a sensation with his rich operatic voice. He was invited to perform in Europe. So they took his passport while he was "under investigation." They blacklisted him, so no more movies or plays. He could not earn a living. Eventually he had a nervous breakdown. Very sad situation and worth knowing about.
Of course a more recent example would be what happened to Muhammed Ali. Or Martin Luther King Jr. Now the FBI and the Justice Department have been cleaned up, laws have been passed and rules have been established internally and those bad old days were over...in large part because of people like Robert Mueller who was there for 13 years and really did a lot. We had a couple of decent FBI or AG guys before him but he is the gold standard.
I think one of the worst since Hoover was Webster. Bad man. But I have to laugh when I here all this talk about "politicizing" the Justice Department. Been there. Done that. We've enjoyed some very good years under good leadership, but it would not take much to go back to the bad old days, and Whitaker is just the kind of guy who can take us back. Sessions was a bad guy. He did a lot of damage at DoJ. But Whitaker is much worse.
by Anonymous | reply 460 | November 11, 2018 1:21 PM |
Actually I think the media has done a decent job of covering this. I was surprised at the vigor and the outrage Wof Blitzer and the CNN people displayed, particularly Dana Bash and Jeffrey Toobin. They have been running the audio of Whitaker's comments and have not done the "balanced " bullshit. Instead, they are talking about how inappropriate he is and covering him from the position of recusal. He ought to recuse himself, is repeatedly discussed. They've also talked about his shady business deals, and had Ezra Klein on from Vox to talk abut him advising the POTUS. In fact CNN and MSNBC have both been featuring Trump clips back to back, one saying he doesn't know the guy, the other talking about what a nice guy he is and "I know Whitaker." Making Trump look very bad. The other issue is the legitimacy of having someone unconfirmed in that position and pressuring McConnell and other senators about that. So right now, I'm not going to complain about the two networks I watch most.

Shouting about recusal is 1/2 decent.
The point is the appointment itself violates the constitution. It’s not a big deal to “recuse” yourself from something you’ve no right to do in the first place.
(I think I’ll recuse myself from determining how you spend your money.)
by Anonymous | reply 465 | November 11, 2018 1:54 PM |
R465, there is some debate about that part. Maya Wiley, who I have a lot of respect for was discussing the Whitaker debacle on MSNBC and she said there are arguments pro and con about the Constitutionality. She said there is law about it, and said for the sake of the continuity of government, the law do not necessarily prohibit an unconfirmed person from stepping in in an emergency. She said if she were making the case against Whitaker she'd avoid the entire Constitutionality aspect and stick to the conflict of interest/recusal part. Now the very notion that Whitaker has no intention of recusing himself, as has been reported, places Trump in more jeopardy. This is clearly obstruction. Sessions was fired because he recused himself and did nothing to "protect" Trump from the Mueller investigation. Trump made it clear he wanted the investigation stopped. He fires Sessions and hires Whitaker who announces he will not recuse himself and will in fact "supervise Meuller." Well, the moment he picks up the phone to talk to Mueller he is obstructing he is conspiring to obstruct and he will be joining Trump who has also once again, clearly obstructed justice.

Congress, House and Senate, both Republicans and Democrats, have the responsibility to protect the nation from Executive Branch overreach. Congress needs to demand that Whitaker at least recuses himself from the Mueller inquiry, and insist DJT offers a timely nominee to be vetted and confirmed, if he/she is deemed acceptable. Congress needs to go on record that any unjustified interference in the investigation headed by Mueller, is unacceptable, and will be dealt with immediately by Congress.
Unfortunately, Congress is spinless and engulfed in excessive partisanship. Mitch McConnell and his cohorts created this mess. He showed himself in the nastiest of ways by how he dealt with the Eric Garland nomination.

Miz Lindz was on CBS this morning declaring Whitaker is a good.and proper pick for acting AG. It certainly was predictable. Again doing DJT's bidding, you just know she and Republican cohorts in the Senate will not mount a resistance. She may even have another hissy fit, followed by the vapours, when Democrats try. And Putie Poo smiles.

Thanks for the thoughtful response R466. I agree that the lack recusal is a strong argument.
The constitutional one is as well. As Wiley pointed out:
. . . the law do[es] not necessarily prohibit an unconfirmed person from stepping in, in an emergency.
Even if one allows that an unconfirmed person [italic] could [/italic] step in, this certainly was not an emergency. Sessions was content to remain as AG. As his letter of resignation specifically stated, he didn’t leave on his own accord. Trump told him to leave.
I’m at a bit of loss as to how a person who’s seeking to end run the constitution can logically claim he’s untitled to extra-constitutional discretion, possibly reserved for emergencies, in order to deal with a non-emergency he manufactured.

NY TIMES -
Top Democrats Vow to Block Matthew Whitaker From Interfering in Russia Inquiry
WASHINGTON — Top congressional Democrats demanded on Sunday that President Trump’s acting attorney general, Matthew Whitaker, recuse himself from overseeing the special counsel investigation, and vowed to use their newfound powers as the incoming House majority to block him from interfering with it.
The incoming chairmen of the House Intelligence and Judiciary Committees both vowed to investigate Mr. Whitaker, a Trump loyalist who has repeatedly and explicitly criticized the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential race, if he continued to supervise the inquiry. Representative Jerrold Nadler of New York, the incoming Judiciary Committee chairman, said he would subpoena Mr. Whitaker if necessary, and make him the committee’s first witness after the new Congress convenes in January.
“The questions we will ask him will be about his expressed hostility to the investigation, and how he can possibly supervise it when he’s expressed, when he’s come out and said the investigation is invalid,” Mr. Nadler said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Trump doesn't care about the House Dems. Neither does Mueller. But Trump cares very much about the media. And he will buckle if Whitaker is portrayed as dumb and foolish, an object of ridicule. As much as he claims he hates the media, he still is very much affected by their coverage. Especially if the media focuses on dark money to fund the F.A.C.T. organization Whitaker founded and paid himself from. In fact talk about how much money poured into FACT and how much he paid himself. That would piss Trump off.And then talk about how he manipulated Trump into noticing him by doing any TV Radio Podcast or blog from the Right to gain his attention. This guy is a clown and he played trump. That's the angle. I guarantee you if they cover him like that he'll be gone faster than you can spell Scaramucci. I used to sometimes run opposition research operations for political campaigns for Congress,Senate governors and local offices. As I have observed Trump I think this is the way to get rid of Whitaker. The pressure on Whiteaker should be so great he quits.

So...Rupert Murdoch met with Mitch McConnell Thursday afternoon. Since Thursday afternoon, Fox News has produced precisely ZERO posts on Twitter. Zip. Nada. Niente. (normally they're posting about 200 tweets per day)
Has Mueller dropped legal papers on Fox? Hannity? All of them?
In addition, the Russian media viciously trolling Donny Two Scoops all weekend - announcing Trump/Putin meetings, referring him to "agent Donald", etc.
Something's afoot.

by Anonymous | reply 515 | November 12, 2018 12:22 AM |
R513 I was reading somewhere else where people were speculating that Fox has been radio silent is because they're trying to keep a low profile and not bring more attention to the information out about how Tucker lied about the events that occurred at his house.
Who knows what the real reason is though?
by Anonymous | reply 516 | November 12, 2018 12:27 AM |
So apparently the Twitter blackout is a protest against Twitter, who didn’t take down Tucker Carlson’s home address in a timely manner. That makes sense... and as much as I hate Tucker Carlson, I don’t condone going to these people’s houses and protesting. They deserve it fully, but I don’t think their kids do.
by Anonymous | reply 517 | November 12, 2018 12:28 AM |
I think Murdoch met with McConnell and they decided that it's time to cut the moron loose. The GOP got their tax cut and their seats on the Supreme Court. Donald is becoming less useful to them and more of a liability as shown in the election. Start watching for more criticism of Trump in Murdoch media. The WSJ hit him with a big story this week. If Fox begins to distance themselves from him, the whole Trump klan should consider high-tailing it to the safety of Moscow or Israel.

That's exactly what I have been predicting since July, R518. I said that if the Democrats flip the House, Trump will be out by the end of the year. He's already served his purpose, and he is doing nothing now except making his Republican brethren look foolish.

I replied, "They're going to make him an offer he can't refuse."

Crazy little story just breaking. Apparently Devin Nune's House Intel Committee staff director, Damon Nelson, has mysteriously died.
He helped Nunes draft a memo that accused DOJ of all kinds of crimes. I wonder what he knew? Damon Nelson helped draft this classified memo outlining alleged surveillance abuses carried out by top officials at the Justice Department. He worked for Nunes since 2003. He must have known everything.
This is how it starts. I expect a lot of resignations and some suicides, and a few murders to follow. It's going to get very ugly.
Also, there are some rumors floating around that Rick Perry might have some financial exposure. I'll try to dig up some info on that later.

Nader's House Committee and/or Adam Schiff's House Committee will subpoena Trump's tax returns directly from the IRS and make them available to the media and for the public view. Trump can't stop it. Those return will reveal much. Trump may try to prevent it, but doubtful any court will rule against a Congressional subpoena where there's precedence.. Trump will have a meltdown about it.
