I think the show needs to bring on a new core family: A 40-something father and mother with three or four children in their late teens/early twenties. The father can be the new villain in town (replacing Victor). He and his wife can have affairs with Lauren and Jack, respectively, and the children can mix it up with Charlie and Mattie and some of the other younger characters, including a SORASed Faith. Give the young characters their own set of stories with something to do.

The show should send Victor, Cane, Tessa and Michael on their way. Charlie and Mattie should live with Neil. Bring in Shauna's aunt, who can cause some trouble and be in a love triangle with Devon and Nate. (I will not comment on the new chemist yet, since I have only seen her on one episode).

I like Rey, but I am not crazy about Lola or Arturo. Arturo is sexy, but his "acting" is distracting. I would also like to see Kyle and Lola recast--or have them leave the show. Tessa and Mariah are boring. I think they should quickly reveal that Tessa is a con artist who is playing Mariah, then send Tessa out of town.

Something is off with the sets. Last week, Cane, Nate, and Neil looked like they were crammed in Cane's kitchen. It was embarrassing. Y&R does not even show his entire house anymore. They also removed the front revolving door of the GC Athletic Club. And the set for the restaurant where Jack met the new chemist, Kerrie, looked cheap. Rey's apartment reminds me of Avery's old place. The coffee house set needs to be renovated and updated. If money is the issue, just have 10 nice, permanent sets and be done with it.

Have been thinking the same thing. They should bring Joe Lando over from B&B and hire him as the dad. He wants to work, he's hot, he's a bit older (early 50s) but believably younger than Hans and Aunt Jack.

The girl who plays Tessa is ok but what they have her say makes it worse. The writers should make her own her shittyness. There are moments of that but then they turn her into a crybaby and Mariah goes ballistic on her. Since when did Mariah get all saint-like? Didn’t she pretend to be her dead sister? The whole thing is a joke. Also, Sharon’s hair is horrible. It’s distracting.

Likewise, they didn't bring Stephen Nichols back as Tucker for Katherine's funeral. Nichols had also appeared in that real-life tribute to Jeanne and would have been available to appear as Tucker at the funeral in 2013 since he didn't rejoin Days until 2015.

Now, having said that, I always thought the Tucker character was a misfire, despite Stephen Nichols considerable effort to make him work. So, not have Tucker at the funeral didn't bother me in the least.

The mausoleum was already half Jill's before Kay died. That storyline was played way back in the late 90s. .. And that's one of the things Kay actually DID leave Jill in her will: the other half of the mausoleum.

Jill and Kay was a fascinating pairing but it was played out well before Jeanne's death. With Jess Walton only visiting occasionally I wish they'd just put Jill to rest and send Cane along with her.

I wish they'd revisit some of the Brooks characters now. Along with, yes, Brooks Prentiss.

Jill is not interesting without Kay.

If Y&R was even a tiny bit forward thinking and a little bit cutting edge, they would have played the exact story with Phillip and his husband, who drinks and smokes and fucks stable boys and hires a cute young twink assistant to be the husband's companion and Phillip falls in love and the cycle repeats.

^^^ You'd need a NuPhillip to play something like that. .. While Bierdz may come with a sentimental element, he's not talented enough to play anything very heavy or long-term, especially given today's quick-pace, one-take, no cue cards production environment.

Was Jill a genuinely sweet ingenue when she was involved with Phillip , or was she more like a young Erica Kane - possibly in love with Philip, but scheming and at least partially in love with him because he could get her out of her lower middle class life? Were Catherine's actions the sole reason she became a 80's style bitch, or was that always part of her and just enhanced by her vengeance against Catherine?

Say what you want about her, but THAT’S how it’s done in soap land. No one did it better than Brendad Ickson and Wilma Jean.

Interesting to see how Brenda's performances changed in the course of those clips and would change even more by the time she left the show. In some ways it almost seems like it was a different actress. As fun as she could be at the end, it is too bad they did not let her have a few more moments where she was more real like the earlier clip and not channeling Joan Collins.

Jill was pretty soft to begin with. Entranced by the wealth she was exposed to, but sincere. She toughed over time and then the 80s kicked in and they Alexised her up.

Jill was the baby of the family and she worked as a hairdresser and her mother Liz worked at the factory. All of their money, more or less, went to putting the the boys though medical and law schools and to pay the bills. Jill longed for a better life, like any young girl would. Katherine came into her salon one day and Jill worked it out so that she could do her hair. Katherine left because she was drunk and paranoid and went back home and Jill set it up so that she could go to the mausoleum to do Kay's hair in person and talk to her about Liz's job at the factory because of the rumored layoffs. I think she wanted to own her own salon. That was her goal. And she figured with a client like Katherine Chancellor that it could really happen.

Fast forward a little bit, Jill becomes Katherine's paid companion and keeper. Kay was a drunk and fucked stable boys and smoked and had bad breath and she and Phillip had a loveless/sexless marriage. Pretty, young thing Jill comes on to the scene and starts hanging out around the pool in her bikinis and Phillip takes notice.

They develop a real relationship and they plan to be married. Phillip takes Jill's virginity in the bunkhouse on the estate, which is when she got pregnant with Phillip. Phillip goes to the Dominican Republic to get a quick divorce so he and Jill can be married. Kay sees Jill and Phillip planning their future and decides to go to AA, but it's too late and Katherine relapses. Drunk Katherine Phillip up at the airport and deliberately drives her car off a cliff. Phillip survives long enough to marry Jill in the hospital, but dies soon after.

Katherine takes Jill to court and Jill loses everything. Jill is upset and angry with Katherine, but she is still more or less a good person until the moment that Katherine offers to buy baby Phillip. When Jill says no, Katherine reveals that she saw Jill and Phillip making love in the bunkhouse and that she knew that Phillip was Phillip's father. This is when Jill snapped and vowed to destroy Katherine and pretty much became the woman that everyone knows.

So long story short, Jill was really a good person who's only crime was wanting a better life via her own salon and falling in love with the wrong woman's husband. Katherine destroyed sweet Jill and created the bitter, man hungry Jill.

What caused Brenda Dickson to lose her mind? Even in interviews in those early Y&R years she seemed pretty grounded - and not necessarily ambitious. She was leaving Y&R in late 1979 to start a family with her then hubby Dr. Raskin. Bill Bell really did a number on her. I totally believe he sexually harassed her in the early years of the show. She probably went along willingly and then realized the hold he had over her.

I think Stephanie and Brooke were even better in their own way that Kay and Jill.

I think that Brenda was always a little "off". But people find ways to justify and make excuses for being a "little off" when you're young and hot as opposed to a "little off" and aging. When you hear both takes of the Brenda Dickson story, like all things, you have to figure that the truth falls somewhere in the middle.

I do believe that she was difficult on set. I think when Phillip was SORASed that pissed her off. Then she started getting mixed messages on how to play Jill, which can be frustrating and a soul-suck for any actor so she acted out, which seems to have alienated everyone except Jeanne Cooper. She got fired, she lost her own income, and no one else was knocking at her door so she became increasingly eccentric.

I think the Y&R set is toxic and has been toxic for many years, but they pick and choose which actors to throw under the bus.

Did they really write Neil off the show? Paul is gone. WTF is happening over there? Throwing the vets aside to bring in the Rosales family is NO BUENO.

Burgstede is really been more of an actress, having scant writing credits. She played hooker "Willow Stark" on DOOL for about 9 months back in 2006-07.
