It’s possible that they’re being reported with bias and that we’re simply seeing him scramble in an effort to protect himself. OR he’s just a different shade of grifter. It’s even possible that he’s a combination of both — shady in his business life, but is a staunch Democrat who wants to use his mouth to make a difference. Obviously, time will tell.

If his legal woes have been portrayed accurately, he would be really wise to step out of the public persona he’s created now, he could still return to a somewhat normal life with a reputation that is salvageable.
