R49, was just talking about this with a male friend and he had an interesting observation. He was raised Catholic and said they used to run in a fast crowd much like this creep's. Among them were a few boys that the others understood as 'pledges' or those who might eventually end up in the priesthood. As a result, they would 'take care' of these guys when they got drunk by setting them up for blow jobs or to get with a very drunk girl they could just feel up or finger. It is a well-understood phenomenon in psychology (emotionally charged memories get encoded differently than ordinary memories). I think the glasses thing is because she didn't put the anti-reflective coating on it so it sort of looks foggy on TV. In person it might look normal.

I drive by Stanford everyday. Ann Arbor, Michigan - a college city - is more liberal than most of Michigan, as are some university cities in the South.

I wouldn't call this area ultra liberal though. To give an accurate picture, a lot of folks are upset with issues that Republicans would support. For example, a lot of service industry workers, veterans, etc., can't afford to live in Palo Alto now, so they've taken to buying old RVs and parking on city streets. Folks are upset about this because it looks unattractive, these folks aren't paying property taxes, they're dumping urine/crap into city sewers, the RVs cause visibility problems for drivers on city streets, etc. Also, a ton of people are pissed about Stanford charging exorbitant fees for medical care, which it claims it has to do to offset the care it provides to non-paying patients. It's not all rainbows, unicorns, and granola here.

I think that Mitchell is smarter than the GOP senators she's speaking for. She is a prosecutor with long experience with victims of sexual assault, and she knows that Blasey Ford is a credible witness. Her line of questioning and Ford's answers give her testimony even more credibility.

I am not arguing that Mitchell is not partisan or trying to get a gotcha moment out of the witness, which is what she's trained to do as a prosecutor, but Mitchell is treading lightly.

I'm incredibly impressed with the Dems so far, and I hope they totally fuck up Kav's chances of being confirmed.

I'm a court reporter, so I listen to people testify every single day, and have for many years. Based on my experience, I'd say Dr. Ford makes an EXCELLENT witness, extremely credible and believable. In addition to her overall demeanor, there are two things that stand out to me that reinforce her credibility:

- It's not a he said/she said; there was a third party in the room. If she was going to invent a story, she would NEVER make the third-party witness the best friend of the perpetrator. She would never make the only other person who can corroborate her story someone that has an obvious bias and invested interest in protecting their friend. She said it because it's the truth. It's not a neat package, but it's the package that was delivered.

- When she talked about not wanting to tell her parents what happened when she was 15 because she had been drinking and was at a house where there was no parental supervision, it made sense. I was struck, though, during her testimony when she talked about being in the Walgreens parking lot calling lawyers and interviewing them from her car. The prosecutor asked if she told her parents what was going on, and she said, "No way." Even all these years later, as a grown woman, she still didn't want to tell her parents. I found that very persuasive.

Harris's mind, I think, is very sharp. I can see her nominating judges and making sure they get through the Senate, making that a priority (unlike Obama).
