At age 57 of ovarian cancer.
OMG!! I had no idea she was ill! Terrible news.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 13, 2018 7:44 PM |
Oh, no.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 13, 2018 7:44 PM |
Sad. She was only 57.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 13, 2018 7:44 PM |
A wonderful talent, a kind and generous lady.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 13, 2018 7:44 PM |
Loved her in Ragtime. RIP.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 13, 2018 7:45 PM |
There are more people talking about this in the existing theater thread, my dear.

Oooooopsy.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 13, 2018 7:46 PM |
A lot of us don't wade into the theater threads, as evidenced by the people here who only just heard the news.
A separate thread for Mazzie is fine. She deserves it. Stop being petty.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 13, 2018 7:58 PM |
Ah, fuck. 57. Too fucking young.
A performer with such artistry, of effortless grace and beauty. RIP, dear Marin. Thank you for all the thrills.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 13, 2018 8:06 PM |
What a strikingly beautiful woman. Such a shame. What a pity it couldn't be that Conway bitch or the Coulter whore.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 13, 2018 8:16 PM |
This is sad.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 13, 2018 8:30 PM |
RIP to a marvelous talent.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 13, 2018 8:31 PM |
There's a full bootleg on YouTube filmed during her run in 'Next to Normal', opposite Jason Danieley. Christ, what a talent. And to think she could also do 'Kiss Me, Kate', 'Passion', 'Spamalot', 'Ragtime' - all with equal ease and skill. She even pulled of Margaret White.
RIP Marin, and the warmest of thoughts to Jason and her loved ones.

And Anna and Lily Garland
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 13, 2018 8:51 PM |
She was very poignant on an episode of Without a Trace.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 13, 2018 8:57 PM |
Such sad news. I only worked with her once (in the mid 1990s) and found her to be so lovely, kind, generous and TALENTED.

Fuck off and die, control freak.
No one wants to talk with you controlling assholes in your shitty theater thread, "my dear."
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 13, 2018 9:09 PM |
It takes an incredibly powerful voice and stage presence to commit to this.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 13, 2018 9:10 PM |
She was also gorgeous and funny in an early Encores version of Cole Porter's Out of This World. She sang a brilliant duet of From This Moment On with Gregg Edelmann and even managed to make him sound interesting.

A musical theater actor--who can play multiple roles?? What will they think up next!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 13, 2018 9:11 PM |
No offense to the brilliant Marin's memory but I find it remarkable that there'd be posters on this thread who don't follow the Theatre Gossip Threads.
RIP dear Marin.

You pop balloons at children's parties don't you, r24?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 13, 2018 9:14 PM |
A genuine loss, in a year of so many notable deaths.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 13, 2018 9:14 PM |
^for r23

I love her version of Losing My Mind at the Soundheim Anniversary Concert
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 13, 2018 9:17 PM |
She’s playing Phyllis in heaven now.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 13, 2018 9:21 PM |
She was fabulous, beautiful, and talented. She and her Husband Jason Daniely were great at Sondheim's 80th Birthday concert.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 13, 2018 9:22 PM |
Who's playing Sally, r29?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 13, 2018 9:23 PM |
A friend just told me. She was one of the best in all my 35 years doing this bway thing.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 14, 2018 12:19 AM |
Was she a trannie ??
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 14, 2018 12:35 AM |
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 14, 2018 12:43 AM |
It's fitting she have her own thread, rather than having to share with all of the Follies loons.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 14, 2018 12:57 AM |
Ugh.
This is so sad.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 14, 2018 1:00 AM |
What a gorgeous, genuine smile. It's sad when the good ones leave us so young. She was incredibly brave to continue performing while dealing with her illness. Bless her soul....now she can rest and sing with the angels.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 14, 2018 1:28 AM |
So sad but let’s be honest. She was lovely and talented but strictly a third-tier Broadway star.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 14, 2018 2:14 AM |
Oh no....such a talent. I always hoped she would get a Tony one day. So sad

Yes, thanks for bringing it up.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 14, 2018 3:32 AM |
Didn't know her but she seemed lovely. She looks so alive and vital during the interview and now she's gone.
I've a loved one, same age, same diagnosis, just in remission now. I can't help but be afraid of the future.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 14, 2018 3:33 AM |
Schee was no me.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 14, 2018 3:49 AM |
Never forgot one of the first previews of Passion with Marin in bed with Jere Shea. Her big pink nipples and his very hairy ass. From that point onward, the show went down the drain.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 14, 2018 3:56 AM |
I should've given her the name of my doctor.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 14, 2018 4:18 AM |
She was an amazing talent and such a sweet person, but I have to say she sucked big time in 20th Century at r11. Yikes!
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 14, 2018 4:56 AM |
Who?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 14, 2018 5:33 AM |
[quote]Who?
The person whose performance you are enjoying at R40. Memory issues, Pat?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 14, 2018 5:47 AM |
This is the first time I've gasped while reading a death notice on Datalounge. She was talented and beautiful. Such a shame, etc.
However.
I call dibs on her husband.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 14, 2018 6:19 AM |
The theater threads aren't everyone's cup of tea, R24. A little condescending and cliquish.
But I admit I still didn't think people would complain about a separate thread for Mazzie. Sheesh
by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 14, 2018 8:54 AM |
I know this song was written by Maury Yeston, but I don't know if it's from some show or other.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | September 14, 2018 1:50 PM |
Will her Husband be gay now?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | September 14, 2018 6:51 PM |
R51, you fucking nasty Queen!
by Anonymous | reply 52 | September 14, 2018 7:23 PM |
Go away, r51.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | September 14, 2018 7:45 PM |
I saw Kelli O'Hara and then her in KING AND I, and Mazzie was much better as Anna IMO. Of course, she didn't have to play opposite the "WTF were they thinking when they cast him" Ken Watanabe.
In some ways I liked her better in NEXT TO NORMAL vs. Alice Ripley. Ripley was a very uneven singer, though the crazy came to her more naturally.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | September 15, 2018 9:15 PM |
Yet Melania, Ivanka and Kim Gilfoul live on.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | September 15, 2018 9:35 PM |
Marin Mazzie was a stellar performer and an even better person.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | September 16, 2018 4:23 AM |
Heather Headley posted this lovely tribute.....her voice is one of my favorites, I wish Twitter would allow the whole song. Marin was beautifully talented and a beautiful woman.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | September 22, 2018 3:15 AM |
This version of Ring Them Bells is even better than the one already posted. Seth Rudetsky was sitting on it. So to speak. Mazzie was a great talent, too gorgeous for her own good.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | September 22, 2018 3:23 AM |
Felt lucky I got to meet her a few times at the Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS Annual Flea Market. She was as lovely as she was talented.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | September 22, 2018 3:48 AM |
Why couldn't it have been Hillary, Nancy or Stormy?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | September 22, 2018 4:00 AM |
She also played Lalume in "Kismet" at Encores and was sensational.
I am so lucky to have seen her in "The King and I". It was as good as any performance I've seen by a singing actress.
