Absolutely r23
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 7, 2018 10:13 PM |
I actually think that’s going to happen soon, r23. People are saying it out loud now. There are already anchors on MSNBC who are refusing to cover anything Huckabee Sanders says. It’ll spread.
That said, Fox will continue to fap furiously to his every word.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 7, 2018 10:16 PM |
What I mean by highlights was by just reading what was said, not showing clips.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 7, 2018 10:22 PM |
What needs to happen is more people need to start flooding the various Broadcasters, Programs, Stations, etc. and start demanding that they stop covering the rallies or not covering the news on Drumpf that they should, etc. Alongside that, there needs to be a threat that you'll boycott the shows AND contact their advertisers. People then also need to follow through and contact the advertisers and say you'll be boycotting their products as long as whichever network, station, program, etc. keeps doing or not doing xyz.
I've mentioned this before on various threads, this definitely works.
It always comes down to the money and they will always cater to which viewers they are scared of losing. The loudest voices don't always represent the majority and you'd be surprised at, in this circumstance, how many Conservatives are complaining to "liberal" media about what they cover. Progressives don't. So who do they continue to cater to?

Fuck you OP for making Jared look attractive.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 7, 2018 10:28 PM |
R27 The media need to investigate those fake rallies for the fraud they are instead of covering them like real legitimate events. Right now they are just regurgitate the crap they are fed by Trump right through to the audience.

R40 I've noticed the Deplorables on Twitter have started harping about Antifa whenever their own are caught on camera being the filth they are. Apparently it's okay for supporters of that cunt Tommy Robinson in the UK to trash a bookshop and threaten the staff because Antifa did something once.
I fucking loathe these people.

These threads are moving so fast! Quick comment on the nutso Manafort judge—my understanding is that most of his controversial comments were not made in front of the jury. I hope that’s the case. We all know that Manafort is guilty. My biggest worry is a rogue judge trying to affect the jury outcome... also, that the testimony will be too complex for the jury to follow.

This is juicy but kind of complicated...there was a in-depth report on NPR today re the Charleston WV rally/murder.
Basically there is one woman who had enough money to bring a lawsuit to try to stop her name from being released as an organizer. I’m wondering if it’s Becca Mercer.
The rest of them are up the creek because snippets have leaked and they are terrible.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | August 8, 2018 12:21 AM |
“But one anonymous woman, the one called "kristall.night," filed suit seeking to quash the subpoena that could unmask her and dozens of other users. She claimed the counterprotesters were intentionally seeking to "out" her as a member of the alt-right movement, putting her in fear of her own safety. Revealing her identity, her attorney argued, would infringe on her First Amendment rights to engage in "anonymous speech" and to associate with a politically unpopular group.
On Monday, however, a magistrate in California disagreed.
U.S. Chief Magistrate Judge Joseph C. Spero declined to fully quash the Discord subpoena, finding that the plaintiffs' interest in discovering her identity as a possible witness or co-conspirator behind the Unite the Right rally outweighed her right to speak anonymously on the Internet.”

Combining two discussions from the previous thread:
There are supposed to be some more second-tier indictments coming soon and Trump is suddenly having blast-from-the-past meetings with some of his former campaign and administration officials like Hope Hicks on Air Force One and Lewandowski at a rally.
I think this idiot is stupid enough to meet with the people who have been informed that they are being indicted and I think these newly indicted idiots are stupid enough to meet with him. So, any chance this round of indictments includes Lewandowski and Hicks and others at that level. I'd consider them second-tier, no?
by Anonymous | reply 65 | August 8, 2018 1:41 AM |
Watching special elections tonight it's really curious how polling for these elections has been almost perfect, like to the actual percentage points on election night, and yet the polling for 2016 was so off. It's almost like the polls in 2016 were probably also correct but there was some sort of interference that made the polling look bad.

He said if something happens we can use the feed but all the networks need to boycott. Did anyone catch what's going on in MI? Republicans apparently successfully prevented any Democrat from getting their name on the congressional primary ballot.
The only way a Democrat can now unseat the Republican is for people to write in a name.

I'm in Michigan. On the ballot for my area, US Senate seat still had Stabinow (ran unopposed as Democratic), and there were about 5 Democrats running for the US House of Rep in my district.

OMG Paul Manafort’s accountant is my neighbor! I literally had no idea. She is a really nice person and was the accountant for our condo board. That position just became available so I’m assuming she was let go.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | August 8, 2018 3:06 PM |
R126, ask her if anyone else in her firm did similar stuff. Something about that press release struck me as hypocritical posturing.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | August 8, 2018 3:12 PM |
OMG,R126!!!! This is your big chance. Do an interview. By that I mean have a conversation with her and get her to talk about Manafort and her impressions and experiences. She was given immunity, she's already testified in court and if you were able to write it up you could sell it and make some $$$. I'm assuming she also lives in your Condo complex?
by Anonymous | reply 128 | August 8, 2018 3:13 PM |
She does live in my condo building, yes. I’m not sure which floor she’s on but I run into her in the elevator occasionally. I’m already on her good side for some stuff I did for the board recently so I’ll use that to open up a conversation about this next time I see her.
By the way, I’m also the person who helped solve the Soft Butch Sous Chef case by urging my friend who had hooked up with David Messerschmidt to hand over his Craigslist emails to the police which helped locate the killer. So I am clearly close to ALL the big D.C. dramas.

R125 I guess you're not in that District.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | August 8, 2018 3:25 PM |
I can understand why the candidate were denied ballot status in Conyers district. Wayne County was correct to deny them on the basis of not having enough valid petitions signatures. But in the case of the guy in the Upper Peninsula where he was the only Dem to file, and it was the address that was in question he should definitely have been allowed a place on the ballot. I agree with the dissenting judge. See? Who you elect to the bench really counts locally. The state appeals court judges are elected in Michigan, and 90% of the time most people have no idea who they are or what they stand for. Judges are Non partisan on the ballot.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | August 8, 2018 3:45 PM |
R133 here. If it could have been determined that the address that he used was acceptable for the USPS, then he should have been allowed.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | August 8, 2018 3:46 PM |
None of these cable news channels are perfect. I watch MSNBC the most because they tend to be the most probing on details addressed comparatively less elsewhere. CNN has some good content, but the hiring of party hacks for these silly, staged debates are annoying and yield little added information.
Murdoch's Fox News is doing the most damage to the country. The network is blatantly undermining the investigative and judicial processes as it pertains to DJT and cohorts. It operates as If it is state run GOP TV.
Sheppard Smith is good at delivering news. Chris Wallace does well conducting interviews. And Judge Napolitano is at least realistic when it comes to interpretations and specifications of the law. The rest of Fox News is essentially propaganda, distortions, spin, and projection. Sean Hannity, Jenine Pirro, and a few others, have cast aside professionalism in their shows.
Trump's base listens to Fox because the network reaffirms their biases and plays on their fears. It Fox reinforces something untrue or unsubstantiated, their viewers will believe it.
The only effective way to confront Fox is a campaign to list and boycott their advertisers in an organized way. That is hard to do, but is possible. Also, the Murdoch & sons media empire needs intensifying scrutiny. Perhaps a future Congress will put them on the hot seat.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | August 8, 2018 4:03 PM |
The last time I had the misfortune to hear Fox, they were ignoring any mention of collusion or the Trump-Russia connection. They did however repeat "mainstream media" and "liberal media" repeatedly. Also, threw in some fear mongering over immigration and guns control. Very, rah, rah, USA #1 with cheesy, patriotic country music.

by Anonymous | reply 137 | August 8, 2018 4:29 PM |
R118/R132, you're right, neither of the situations in the article are from my district so I was not aware.
However, the good news is that in the 13th district, (where the 3 were disqualified due to invalid petition signatures) there were 5 other Democrats that were on the primary ballot, and no Republicans were even running.
[quote]Tlaib faced off against five other Democrats in the primary that should be decisive in the heavily-Democratic district, where no Republicans are running for the U.S. House seat vacated by John Conyers.

I wonder what Ghouliani's counter offer will be? Oh, I bet something like this:
"Orange will agree to be interviewed for 15 minutes. You may not ask him any questions re: collusion, conspiracy, Russia or his taxes. Anything he says cannot be used against him and if he agrees to be interviewed you have to drop the case within 3 days of the interview and say he did nothing wrong."
by Anonymous | reply 141 | August 8, 2018 5:24 PM |
Last night someone on msnbc said Ghouliani will want to exclude any questions on why he fired Comey as well as on Gen Flynn if I heard it right. He says Cheeto has already said all he have to say. Which probably isn't going to work for Mueller. Cheeto said different things at different times, and that's the least of it.

You know, all this talk of "negotiations" has me perplexed. Is it customary for defense attorneys to negotiate testimony with Prosecutors and insist on limits to what they are willing to talk about? I don't recall this ever happening before. And I have to wonder if these negotations are for another purpose. Because if there truly is something Mueller has that Trump's defense also know he has, and it could result in charges for Trump, then maybe these negotiations are exploratory and prelimiary to a Trump exit . I know. It's my fantasy.

The woman whose fundraiser Nunes appeared at when he remarked candidly, is House GOP Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers, the highest ranking female GOP in the House of Represetatives. She serves Washington States' 5th Legislative District. Yesterday Washington State had its Primary for the 2018 November midterm election. McMorris Rodgers, according to Aug. 8 2018 evening election returns posted at the Secretary of State website for Washington, has 47.81% of the vote tally so far. In 2016, she had only a little more than 42%, but she competed with many more Republican, Libertarian and Independent candidates in the primary. The Democratic Party Candidate, Lisa Brown, managed over 31% in that 2016 Primary. This year, the 2018 Primary Democratic Party candidate, who will challenge McMorris Rodgers for WA-5 in November, has 46.82% of the vote.
After this news item from Rachel Maddow, I don't expect McMorris Rodgers' popularity to soar with WA-5 voters. I expect Lisa Brown to wisely exploit those candid remarks, and I expect her to replace McMorris Rodgers.

But, my big take away is that the Manafort trial steered away from Trump. Unfortunately it will be very hard to unseat Nunes. His district might as well be in Portugal. It’s home to Portuguese (by way of the Azores) dairy farmers who all stick together, practically like the Amish or the Mormons. Nunes so strongly identifies with the Azores he spent years trying to get the American military to put air bases there. It’s in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. He wanted some military intelligence group to be based there. The plans were to put the intelligence center in London. Nunes accused the military intelligence people of wanting to keep their cushy lives in London, closer to all the NATO countries, rather than live in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Well, DUH.....
The guy is in a frenzy over Trump and keeping trump happy & safe. I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump announces some mitary base will be put in the Azores. Btw, one of the Americans who visited the Azores with him on a fact finding tour said the Americans were being strong armed by the Azoreans/Portuguese and Nunes took us their cause, leaving the other Americans to wonder whose side Nunes was on. When they had briefings, it seemed Portugal knew of contents of them the next day.

Manafort prosecution made a motion some of the biased outbursts the judge made the other day were wrong. (Sorry in advance if I mess up quoting).
[quote]“The Court’s sharp reprimand of government counsel in front of the jury on August 8 was therefore erroneous,” the prosecutors wrote. “And, while mistakes are a natural part of the trial process, the mistake here prejudiced the government by conveying to the jury that the government had acted improperly and had violated court rules or procedures. The exchange could very well lead the jury to reach two erroneous inferences: (a) that Mr. Welch’s testimony is not credible because he was improperly privy to the testimony of other witnesses, and (b) that the government sought to secure an unfair advantage by secreting its expert in the courtroom without permission. This prejudice should be cured.”
The judge actually apologized in front of the jury.
[quote]“I was critical of counsel for … allowing an expert to remain in the courtroom,” he said before testimony began. “You may put that aside… I may well have been wrong.”
[quote]“Any criticism of counsel should be put aside — it doesn’t have anything to do with this case.”

The other strange thing about space force is Putin keeps talking about it, sort of. In the Politico story where they claim to have a leaked document outlining what Trump and Putin talked about in Helsinki, the issue of weaponizing space came up. Putin also talked about it at the press conference.
So what is the angle here? We know any sanctions the Trump admin puts on Russia are simply to try to prove Trump isn't in their pocket, which he is. He won't do anything Putin doesn't want him to. So is Space Force! to show he's tougher than Putin or trying to defy him? Or does Trump's toddler brain just think Space Force! sounds cool?
The whole thing is just bizarre.

I hope all of you are getting the significance of the name Crystal Knight as the female mastermind for these alt-right rallies. Krystallnacht is German for Crystal night, or night of broken glass and it was the night that Brown Shirts in Germany smashed windows of all known Jewish businessmen in Germany, synagogues, and homes. Government authorities did nothing. Many Jews were killed, 30,000 were rounded up and sent to concentration camps. People who pretend (like our president) that "there are good people on both sides" have never studied history. It's all part of a white supremacy movement that sees all people not from northwestern Europe as inferior people, not worthy of rights or dignity.

by Anonymous | reply 337 | August 10, 2018 11:02 AM |
I hadn’t heard that Gates was bad, only that the judge was an asshole. If, God forbid, the state loses this case (and I’m not sure how they can), then they can surely get another trial on the basis of the judge’s HIGHLY inappropriate and unethical behavior. If the tables were turned, the defense would have already had a mistrial declared.
by Anonymous | reply 338 | August 10, 2018 11:21 AM |
I'm confused. If a verdict came down in favor of Manafort, a not guilty verdict, I always thought the Prosecution could not appeal or demand that a mistrial be declared. I always thought only the Defense can appeal or ask for a mistrial. Or maybe I'm wrong about the mistrial. Wouldn't that have to be set in motion before the trial is over? So like, right now, while Ellis is being an asshole, could the Prosecution offer a motion that a mistrial be declared due to the judge's prejudicial conduct in front of the jury? I mean apologizing and asking the jury to disregard his conduct is like locking the barn after he horses run away. Or something. (I'm not familiar with rural customs.) When can the Prosecution as that a jury's decision be vacated? Or maybe the proper term is jury nullification? Does the Prosecution have that right or is it only the Defense?

Manafort is as done as a chicken breast in Ted Bundy's 2000 volts - electrified hands.Manafort is so done that the government tried contacting his defense team several times over several days to return the confiscated for evidence electronics and memory devices and nobody at the law firm offices responded.
by Anonymous | reply 357 | August 10, 2018 6:07 PM |
The judge has had to formally apologize twice to the jury, had to tell them to disregard his statements.
The first time it was about something that he agreed beforehand the prosecutors could present and then when they did present it, he complained. So the prosecutors had to go back and show him the transcript of his decision.
Also there's something pertaining to Gates' testimony that Mueller doesnt want to come out yet so they had a sidebar about that.
That e judge can be an asshole all he likes but if the jury reads it as contempt for the prosecutor's case, then they can let Manafort off. Although that's unlikely what with all the witnesses who are testifying about his corruption. It Remains to be seen if he is just as rough to the defense lawyers when they start with their case.

"My friend Robert writes me all the time and we're always speaking and negotiating but he's just too shy to talk about in public. He exists. I'm serious, he really exists. See? Here's his picture I cut out of a yearbook."
Any proof of this supposed desperate attempt by Mueller's team to get Trump in for a meeting comes from Rudy. All the spin is one-sided and from the Trump team only, and you know that because it's filtered through Haberman and Schmidt. And Rudy always seems to pop up with this Mueller meeting bullshit when Manafort has a really bad day at the trial, or some other new Russia tidbit drops. He might as well just scream SQUIRREL!

If Ellis's antics affect the jury, the most likely outcome is that one or more deplorable on the jury will vote not guilty. If the jury does not vote unanimously guilty or not guilty, the judge must declare a mistrial and the prosecution can refile the case. Of course, if that happens, Mueller will make sure that Ellis is not assigned to the retrial.

R372, what I read is that this judge Ellis thinks that connecting Manafort to the overall Russian investigation is a stretch. Manafort is crooked but it's everyday financial crookedness that assholes like him get away with all the time. The prosecutors are coming down hard on him (womp womp) so he will flip and deliver something on Trump as it relates to the election.
Since Manafort is more afraid of the oligarchs he stiffed than a jail sentence in Club Fed, he probably won't flip.
The recent news that he kinda promised a WH appointment to that bank president in exchange for approving a loan, okay that's promising but still no direct connection to Trump. Even the notes he took at the Trump Tower meeting don't seem to reference Hillary dirt. If he admits that Trump listened in, that would be damaging to Trump but so far, he hasn't cooperated.
"a real book"? Maybe the one Bob Woodward is coming out with, early September.

They all feel the 2nd SCOTUS seat will be the game changer. They’re dragging this out so that once Kavanaugh gets in, someone involved will bring a suit to SCOTUS and the whole investigation gets shut down. Right now, Andrew Miller has been ducking a subpoena to appear before Mueller. He claims he’s trying to negotiate immunity, but some law experts said he wants to get charged with contempt and then bring an appeal to SCOTUS

The "speculation" is buried in the third-to-last paragraph:
"Friday's unexplained delay has sparked speculation among observers that there could be discussions about a potential plea deal. But there have been no other signs that a plea agreement is in the works, and Manafort's lawyer said ahead of the trial that the former Trump campaign chairman would not agree to one."
by Anonymous | reply 411 | August 11, 2018 11:43 AM |
From Seth Abramson, re: R411:
I have conducted plea negotiations during a felony jury trial before (more than once). This is *exactly* what it looks like, just FWIW. You go back to chambers with the judge and opposing counsel and you have a joint conversation about whether/how the trial is going to continue.
Not saying I know what the heck is happening in chambers or in the jury room. I don't. I'm just telling you what I've seen and done in the past. I've even seen judges call counsel back to chambers and *encourage* them to reach some sort of a plea deal. Yes, really. It happens.
I think it's significant that these odd delays are happening right before the defense presents its case. If the defense in fact has no case to present, or feels its defense would irrevocably harm the defendant's position with respect to the prosecutors, they may want to talk.
Defense lawyers are also most likely to give a client a final "come to Jesus" moment, if they plan to do that at all, after the prosecution rests (or close to that) and it's clear how strong or weak their case was. Or, a client may have their first and final "freak-out" then.
So at the end of a prosecution's case-in-chief, you can have a client suddenly want to plead, a lawyer suddenly advise a client to reconsider a plea, a judge who wants a plea, or a defense strategy that recognizes that the beginning of the defense case is a point of no return.
Or this will turn out to be nothing. Just trying to give some perspective on what undoubtedly was been a series of strange conferences in chambers and/or the jury room today.
by Anonymous | reply 412 | August 11, 2018 11:45 AM |
Does Manafort's defense team think that the court case is going in their favor? Seems like the judge seems to favoring them and hating on the prosecution. If that is the case why would they negotiate a plea bargain?
by Anonymous | reply 413 | August 11, 2018 11:51 AM |
Well, the judge can be as big of an asshole as he wants to be, but the evidence is fairly overwhelming. And this is just trial #1 for Manafort. It’s only going to get worse.
All that said, I would think Manafort would choose jail or a cyanide capsule before he’d rat on the people he did business with.

So newspaper editors around the country are going to write a strongly worded letter about Trump's attack on a free press. That's hardly "growing a backbone", R417. Growing a backbone would be investigating and exposing the layers and layers of corruption in this cesspool of grifters and con men. Growing a backbone would be calling out the endless stream of lies spewed forth on a daily basis by the White House communications team. Growing a backbone would be refusing to give airtime to the likes of Kellyanne Goebbels to peddle their propaganda. Growing a backbone would be not breathlessly reporting every time the dotard-in-chief shits out another moronic tweet. Growing a backbone would be ignoring each and every one of his deplorable/hillbilly/klan rallies.
At least a strongly worded letter is a starting point, I guess.

Every major newspaper should have as its headline every single day TRUMP LIES AGAIN: #3,253. And an announcement at the end of each major networks' evening news: number of Trump lies as of this day, August 11, 2018, is 3,253. For a list of the lies and the actual facts, go to www. etc......

Yes, I remember that r437. It was agonizing.
It benefitted Reagan who despised the USSR.
Now we have a Russian puppet in the WH —and *crickets* from MSM.
Which is worse: Americans, still alive, kidnapped by Iran, or a Putin puppet in the WH destroying democracy?
The latter is more agonizing, but is being swept under the rug. I occasionally watch the national news on TV...very little reporting or criticism of Trump’s dangerous cozy relationship with a communist dictator who continuously violates the human rights of Russian citizens as well as assassinates political opponents & journalists.
The press overwhelmed us with the Iran hostages — which Reagan so “gallantly” saved (through cheating).
And now they’re blowing off a porn addled commie stooge in the Oval Office.
Patriarchy is toxic. Now we can all see the hypocrisy & double-standards with our own eyes.
People used to inherently trust white straight men. I do believe that some white straight men do have incredible gifts & aptitude. But they, as a whole, are not worthy of being trusted blindly. They are enemies of democracy now. They have too much power...and don’t deserve it. They could have continued to get away with their illusion, if not for Trump. He exposed their underbelly & it's disgusting & I'm done with them. They no longer have credibility. In fact, they have just the opposite & should be avoided & not trusted.

The media has responsibility. They did little investigative reporting on Trump on matters not publicly known. He received massive free coverage with call-ins, rallies, tweets, etc. Other GOP primary candidates were not afforded the same. The media and GOP ranted about HRC's Emails and the Benghazi matter, though she attended numerous Congressional hearing and extensively testified.
The media is still obsessed with Trump for ratings. They act dismayed at his antics, but it is still promotion. Treating characters such as Rudy Giuliani as stars and credible is absurd. The media is eagerly playing host to the deflections of criminal activity.

Look whats happening in Florida.....both Senators, Nelson and Rubio, have warned state election officials that Russia in currently in their voting systems and active.....but GOP Gov and Senate candidate Rick Scott thinks its a joke. Are they planning a GOP landslide in Florida ? The entire GOP administration in Fla is corrupt, Scott, Biondi, etc.....we need to pay attention to the amount of GOP victories in this coming election....and demand and challenge any results that are suspicious.
Then there is Kris Kobach....who finally was forced to step away from the election recounts after it was determined there were votes not counted and Kobach (the current AG) had diescted county officials to exclude votes. This is the man who Trump put in charge of illegal voting.
We need to stay vigilant......judging from the GOP responses in DC, somethings afoot.....but we already knew that.
by Anonymous | reply 443 | August 11, 2018 4:14 PM |
Exactly R439, and that is a huge part of the perception problem. This entire situation is informed by greed at every single level. Which can seem like a benign threat, certainly not as real as a plane crashing into the WTC. When other Russians were in Power going back to the Post WW II days, they were framed as evil scary bastards. Krushchev pounding his shoe on the table at the UN screaming "We will bury you!" to the United States. The dangers of Russian nuclear weapons in Cuba, aimed for the U S mainland, the constant and continuing threat of nuclear war, etc.etc.etc.
But we haven't done a very good job of demonizing Putin. Gorbachev was reasonable & friendly, Yeltsin was a drunk and a clown, and then we got Vlad muscular, bare-chested, looking better than most aging rock stars, riding horses and fishing, etc. Whataguy! Putin was presented/marketed to us as a celebrity as much as he was as a head of state.
And even though from time to time the media recites his sins and his evil acts, it just doesn't seem to penetrate the popular image of Putin. He literally is getting away with murder! Here, in America, we are dealing with TREASON. We are dealing with corruption on a grand scale. Our national security has been compromised and the consequences may be long term. But there is no sense of urgency. Everyone, especially the media ought to be running around with their "Hair on Fire".
We are in more danger today, then we ever were during the Cuban Missile Crisis. We get scared of those crazy Muslim terrorists and we get scared of the gangs of Mexican rapists, but we seem to not fully appreciate the threat we are really facing and I blame the media. People are sheep. If the media repeats something often enough it will penetrate. But just mentioning it now and then is not going to have the effect we need.

Florida election apparatus is penetrated. Georgia is unprotected and quite vulnerable. Wisconsin is suspicious. High level GOP operatives need to be watched but weren't in 2016. Scrutinizing western Pennsylvania and Allegheny County may be in order. Ohio has had a history of irregularities.
Since it is midterms, expect, across the country, competitive Congressional and Senate races will get targeted.

[quote] But we haven't done a very good job of demonizing Putin.
Because conservatives got more clever. After Watergate they made sure they OWN the press and dictate what and how it's being reported. They control the narrative. They control public opinion and, in fact, control what the masses consume. Food, medicine, education, entertainment and news media, etc. We are slaves and prisoners without visible leash and prison cell (I know, MARY!).
Where is the actual Liberal outrage? Is it all reserved for SJW level of trivial matters? Why and how? Who really benefits from the lack of passion rising up against the conservative, and corrupt, status quo?

Call me a conspiracy nutcase, but Huffpost helped a lot to establish an online news media system that eroded traditional journalism where people are paid nothing to write articles and report things and the mainstream press is struggling, because they are expected to pay for proper researched articles and reports and yet people are going "why pay when I can get the, so called, news for free elseswhere?".

Seems then that the hand-delivered letter to Putin didn't take any edge off the sanctions. The sanctions are public, and the letter was private, and that's not good enough for Putin.
Thus Trumpy will be scuttling around, playing catch-up to his Daddy, trying somehow to make good. For all the sordid chaos Trump has created, it must be hell to be him. It's a repulsive life in full. He has to be kept going only by the conscienceless will of the insane.

Listen. Once the fucking Wall came down, I'm talking the Berlin Wall, and the Glasnoste thing blew up for Gorby and Yeltsin took over, it was a new day. Fuck communism, it's capitalism all the way. Multinational media conglomerates are a part of it.
The fact is once the multinational corporations,s and the banks and all the corrupt oligarchs saw how much money could be made, once Putin tore a page or two from our playbook exploiting racism and divide and conquer, everything looked different. Greed was good. Our government knew how evil they were, but the Banking and natural fuel gas oil, etc. knew there was money to be made.
In the long run, China will kick Russia's ass but right now Putin and his band of Oligarhcs are running a Chaos operation. Weaken the USA, and keep making money. Destabilize Europe, exacerbating and in some cases creating a refugee crisis, bankroll ISIS, and a few others and just keep things crazy.

This stupid bitch in business school just spouted out the textbook definition of Repug talking points like lower taxes, less regulation, less govt spending (and they say Colleges are so liberal-looks like Bus programs are all Repug). I wish someone would ask, "So how low do taxes go? Kansas tried this and it ruined them. We have cut taxes and everytime our deficit explodes. Now, after Dump's spending, our deficit is climbing towards a trillion again."
Another Independent said the economy was more important so she was voting Dump though her other answers betrayed her Independence and you could tell she was conservative. Was there an Independent leaning Liberal? Of course not!

R436, in the previous thread there were several commenters who called on people to take to the streets. Immediately these commenters were vehemently attacked as being delusional.
I thought this was very strange because, yes civil unrest is clearly in order, the US has never in its history faced such a dangerous time and demonstrating does make a difference, clearly shown in Ukraine.
I almost find it inexplicable that there aren't massive protests every week given how dangerously close the country has come to lose democracy.
My point is, seeing these commenters being attacked as they were, I suspect that troll accounts actively engage in manipulating public opinion on social media to make people believe that the things that are happening are normal and that there is nothing to worry about.

Well, the fact that the economy is good right now is definitely going to help. But if you start pointing out the fact that healthcare are going up, they're eliminating the pre existing conditions and other features, etc. that's important to people who "care" about the economy. If you tell them wages are not going up, or that their taxes are going up, if you tell them the tariffs are going to be costing them a lot, lie I hope they aren't thinking about buying a new car. And the interest rates are going up too, so borrowin g for a mortgage or a car loan or a small business loan is problematic. That's the thing. The real shit hasn't kicked in yet. Gasoline is going up. If it keeps going up it will affect the cost of food, travel, and commuting. I think with all these so called Indies you have to personalize things. They don;t give a shit about "the deficit" because it's too big to get their arms around, and the media and the Democrats haven't made an issue of it. California is literally burning, our environmental laws are being reverse, etc. Look What we need is all the things in every department that the Republicans are doing to harm us and reversing regulatory policies. Our drinking water, our food safety, everything. We need to make this very personal and we needed to do that Yesterday. My 63 yr old mother doesn't give a shit about abortion, but she sure as shit cares about Medicare and social security. And we need to make sure people understand that it does affect them directly when these programs are cut.

I believe the Russian objective is to get Americans out into the street in chaos, like the Unite the Right rally. Moreover, they want us to appear weak, divided, and disorganized. As for the resistance, they want to make our numbers appear diminished. What better way to do that then by manipulating the gullible online? There are many examples of this happening in 2016 on both sides of the aisle. We are still discovering more Russian efforts to meddle in our domestic affairs.
However, we are Americans. We are not weak, divided, or disorganized. Our numbers are strong.
I think the Women's Marches and the March for Our Lives scare the Russians. What scares them are the millions upon millions of Americans united for common cause in public.
This fear explains the effort to diminish in our collective mind the very idea of protest. They want us to think that protesting is what the fringe does. They want us to think our numbers are small. When they can't convince us our numbers are small, they want us to think that there are an equal number in opposition. They are afraid of us when we are together.
Trump is obsessed with crowd size for good reason. What scares the Russians also scares the GOP.

BS, Putin very well knows that protests almost cost him the reelection in 2011/2012 and making sure they won't happen again is what secures his reign. Why do they keep saying "racial tensions"?
It's strait-up racism.
And you can say Asians, Latinos, and African-Americans are racist, too, but they aren't organizing politically, blanketing social media, or proliferating the hate-Internet to take away the rights of other "races"--and they aren't marching with tiki torches.
It's pretty much a one-way thing, not a two-sided "tension."

by Anonymous | reply 533 | August 12, 2018 5:52 AM |
No, racial tension is correct--Russia tried, repeatedly, to exploit the Black Lives Matter movement to this end.
R526, I think R515 has a point--Putin is wary of protests, but that doesn't mean he doesn't want them in the U.S. He *wants* the U.S. to be weak and divided. Trump is his puppet, but that doesn't mean he cares what happens to Trump--if the U.S. is in chaos, Putin is free to mow through the Ukraine and play games in Eastern Europe.
Putin was also behind the CalExit push--hell, he may be encouraging Trump's attacks on California. He'd be delighted to see the United States break up, though he's not counting on it. He uses multiple strategies to keep the havoc going. At the very least, he wants Trump to put an end to California's independence when it comes to emissions--California's next big goals are to radically increase fuel efficiency and up the number of electric vehicles. Since a bunch of other states follow California's guidelines, this will lead to a significant drop in oil demand--and Russia's a petro-economy.
I don't think, though, that Putin likes well-organized calm protests that lead to action. I think he neither understands nor respects genuine civil dissent and disobedience--there's no history of it in Russia. He and Trump also don't get just how much agency the states have.

^^Avenatti has been campaigning in Missouri. You can check his twitter feed daily.

Avenatti is out there saying we need to fight fire with fire.
And I agree with him. I never liked Michelle's, "We go high," Mantra. You cannot go higher with people who take glee in going lower (and getting away with it).

@dennispmcginn
@realdonaldtrump I voted for you and now my wife of 19 years with a green card is afraid you're sending her to concentration camp... :(

@Swisher1977
Replying to @realDonaldTrump You disgust me! I voted for you. The worst person out here. My President is a twitter troll!

@ScottieK04
@realDonaldTrump I voted for you, because I thought you’d be a change of the same old divisive rhetoric. I was wrong, I am ashamed by how you speak of others! The best way to judge someone’s character is not by what others say of you, but what you say of others...you are failing

@MaryElam1
Replying to @realDonaldTrump Trump...I voted for you...stop making me regret my decision. You're the President...please...please...have "some" filter. Stop saying people are dumb.. come on...you're making us all look foolish. There are some things better left unsaid...

Replying to @realDonaldTrump Convicted of “nothing” because he’s standing trial you dumb fuck. It’s called “due process”. I really didn’t believe you were this fucking dumb when I voted for you but you’ve proved me utterly wrong

R536, oh that's not CalExit, that's the SV guy who keeps wanting to divide California, first into seven states, now into three--but his latest proposal got thrown off the ballot by a judge.
CalExit was a proposal to have California secede from the United States, like Texas is always threatening to do.

Sorry, it's just that sometimes I need to see these things to make me feel better.

Oh, that's right R547. My bad. Got them confused.
by Anonymous | reply 549 | August 12, 2018 7:49 AM |
R548 I get it. The only trouble is that those people are all Morons who would in fact fall for it all over again and vote the same exact way. Well, the majority of them would.

Yeah, the ones falling for the "I swear, this timeI won't come in your mouth!" lie.

In a filing Friday morning, they asked Ellis to tell the jury to disregard a comment Thursday during a witness' testimony about alleged bank fraud conspiracy that the attorneys "might want to spend time on a loan that was granted."
The judge's comment "misrepresents the law regarding bank fraud conspiracy, improperly conveys the court's opinion of the facts, and is likely to confuse and mislead the jury," prosecutors wrote.
The prosecutors want Ellis to explain "that the jury is not to consider the court's comment and that loans that Manafort fraudulently applied for but did not receive are relevant to the charges in the indictment."
Ellis made the comment near the end of the day Thursday, as witness Taryn Rodriguez of Citizens Bank testified about a $5.5 million loan Manafort applied for using false statements to the bank but did not receive.
A day before, prosecutors had asked Ellis to correct the record for the jury about his agreement to let an expert witness from the IRS sit in the courtroom before he testified. Ellis told the jury he had been "probably wrong." Transcripts from earlier in the trial show he clearly discussed with prosecutors the IRS witness observing the trial.
There was no public response to the new request as of 6:30 p.m. ET Friday.

I really do not like the MLK Michelle when they go low, we go high.
Such malarkey.
I think that the Malcolm X version would have changed things for the better years ago:
Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery.

With regard to the video in R558. Jesus, that Steve Cortes is a sycophant. Whenever he talks it looks like he's going to stroke out trying to figure out how to lie and spin.
Dotard obviously has a thing for guys named Steve.

[quote]Trump is obsessed with crowd size for good reason.
The crowd size represented by the popular vote, for example. Vast orderly demonstrations by popular voters - who could be usefully identified as such, further to enrage 'POTUS' - with placards bearing punchy tweet-like protests - would send a powerful message.
New thread title suggestion: 'East of Treason.'
