And I would just like to add that, when these things happen - like Hilary's sudden death - it always makes me wonder what the storyline would have been if Mishael Morgan had opted to sign a new contract with Y&R and stayed? .. Surely Mal had something on his storyboard for Hilary and Devon, so why is that story being trashed? .. Is what was planned for this character "less better" than killing her off - something so inconsequential that it can be totally scrapped? It's not like Morgan is some 25-year vet who's "irreplaceable." Most of folks aren't either. Back in 2009, I was actually looking forward to Paul Michael Glaser playing Victor Newman.

I'm in the minority here but I think the car crash, Hillary's death & the fall out have been beautifully done. I even choked on the day she died. That script was beautifully written.

Was killing her off short sighted? We shall see. YR could've still had the lingering scenes but instead of death she could've gone into a coma & been sent to a special clinic until they wanted to recast. Or they could use her death to take Devon dark where he blows his sister out of the water & blows the Winters family apart. We shall see.

M. Morgan was a good actress and gave the show some much-needed electricity. Only Gina T. gives it that now. O, how the great have fallen.

I think killing off Jewish Brad was more a Paul Rauch move, or at least spurred by him. He and Maria were listed as co-EPs at that time, but the press made it sound like Rauch was in charge of production and finances, while she would be storyline.

Anyway, right after Rauch joined (Oct 2008), another mandate came to slash costs. Within a month or so, SOD even reported that one of the moves was to cut either Don Diamont or Doug Davidson. As we would soon find out, Don would be the one to get the chop and he taped his last scenes in early January 2009 for his appearance as the Bradsicle that aired at the front end of February sweeps.

About six months later, when Team Rauch-Bell opted to kill off Colleen, it had a lot to do with the fact that Aussie Colleen (Tammin Sursok) had never really 'clicked' with viewers. The fraus were still upset that Latham had canned "Fat Colleen" and replaced her with the skinny girl with the funny accent. So after two years of the character not gaining much traction, she now appeared rather expendable, especially since the Carlton connection was no longer a factor.

And one of these included a meeting he had with TPTB about him possibly being rehired AFTER he'd already been gone from the show for awhile. It was in one of the magazine's small "things we know" sidebar columns. Since there is outside confirmation on this point, I tend to believe the rest of what he said in the podcast as well.
