Yes, R181, the House committees can undertake investigations. In their oversight capacity, the House and Senate work independently of each other for the most part. On occasion they may have joint committees to look into specific topics, but that is not the norm. So, yes, when the Dems retake the House they will begin to have hearings into this nightmare. What leak are you talking about? The Cohen testimony about the Russia meeting? Because a lot of people think that leak came from Trump. He's trying to deflate Muellers eventual report by leaking bits of it before it's released. That way, Trump's propagandists like Rudy can go out there and assure everyone that this is unimportant. The point is for them to do whatever they can to smear Cohen. It sounds about right to me. Trump does shit like this in order to loose an onslaught of propaganda from Fox and Trump's henchmen.

Second, Trump is a master at PR. That's how he got famous and stayed famous. He understands the 24 hour news cycle because he has exploited it for years. These bombshells, if released all at once, may overwhelm people to the point where they think "This is terrible! He must be guilty."

But if the bombshells are slowly leaked over a period of months, that dilutes their power to shock and allows your surrogates to go on tv and to write stories on the net that smear the person who the bombshell depends upon. Giuliani, Breitbart, Daily Caller, etc will spend days smearing Cohen and saying that people who get immunity will lie and make up crimes in order to save themselves. Facebook and Twitter will get bombarded with pro-Trump, anti-Cohen, anti Mueller messages

It's called "Getting in front of the story." So when Mueller releases his report, deplorables and the vast right wing media will say, "This is old news that was discredited." Because the bombshells are already out there and were propagandized for months, the impact is greatly diluted.

Trump is uneducated and incurious, but he is crafty. He learned from Roy Cohn, one of the world's most successful bitches, how to counterattack in order to really hurt someone. His ability to punch back knows no limits.

John Edwards never got convicted of anything for using campaign funds to hide his mistress and child. His jury was deadlocked and a mistrial was declared. The justice department decided "in the interest of justice" not to retry him. Yeah right, "justice."

r591 Add on the years of lying and obstruction of justice, and it's a big deal! The cover-up magnified a arguable "campaign violation" into downright treason. If they came clean early on and someone took the blame, then they might be able to obfuscate the collusion and get away with it.
