The opening graphic Op used is brilliant!

I am still waiting for a true bomb-shell revelation that will truly take this scum down. Haven't seen one yet. George Will last night on The Last Word said as scummy as these pay-offs are and Trump is they really don't stoop to the level of criminality unless thats what we want campaign laws to come to. He despises Trump but believes this is all much ado about nothing so far... I somewhat agree. People in Iowa and Wisconsin still love Trump. I hear it every day and am personally dumbfounded how he is still as popular as he is.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 25, 2018 5:21 PM |
^The criminality will be in the indictments as with Flynn, Manafort, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 25, 2018 5:39 PM |
Well, if George Will says it, it must be true.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 25, 2018 5:40 PM |
I can think of just five or six confirmed criminal acts by Trump offhand, and I’m not even a lawyer.
Obstruction and perjury come immediately to mind.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 25, 2018 5:52 PM |
“I am a farmer and a Trump supporter. I agree that China needs to be punished for stealing patented U.S. technology. But opening a new front in this trade war, while trying to reduce the blowback on farmers with a Great Depression-era transfer program, is not the right approach. It is the economic equivalent of treating a hangnail by cutting off your finger.
As Trump’s aid package tacitly admits, tariffs hit farmers especially hard. With farmers already facing economic head winds, including oversupply and drought, I predict that even with this aid, expanded tariffs would be the breaking point that puts some farmers out of business entirely. As the history of the Great Depression demonstrates, such federal and bureaucratic farm-support programs rarely compensate for the full burden of a trade war, while usually ushering in unintended consequences that distort the farm economy.”

You've actually have been banned for lying about other posters.
Do it again and I will report you.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 25, 2018 6:51 PM |
I think the Deplorables, some of them will desert Trump if they believe it is their own idea and if they feel lie they have come to that conclusion. You have to leave them a way out. If you get all confrontational and you start arguing the facts with them, you force them to dig in and get real stubborn. The irony is that even as he attacks China he is borrowing money from China to give to the farmers to aid them in a crisis he created. All of it unnecessary.

And he apparently believes the investigation will be done by the end of this year. Statement from John Bolton:
“The President believes that the next bilateral meeting with President Putin should take place after the Russia witch hunt is over, so we’ve agreed that it will be after the first of the year.”

Thanks, r10. A couple more things to add to that: First, this is being talked about as a one-off under a Presidential prerogative hardly ever used, and usually only for natural disasters.
So in other words, a bogus election-year payoff to compensate for an economic "own goal" mistake by the dumb ass that was starting to cause farmers to bitch. Farmers he believes are "his people."
Secondly, as his much-needed Senate frenemy Murkowski asks, Why just farmers? What about the fisheries industry in my state being hurt by your trade war? What about auto companies in the US being hit hard by the steel wars?
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 25, 2018 7:17 PM |

Of course they don't, r47. Not if they're honest.
U.S. Soybean farmers, for example, were on a roll and expanding operations, thanks to huge demand from China. Until their hero started the tariff shit, and then oops, China retaliates and now buyers there look to get soy from elsewhere.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 25, 2018 7:29 PM |
OP might not be a misogynist but he’s definitely a bitch which is why I blocked him.
This hearing with Pompeo right now should be interesting. Maybe we’ll find out if that soccer ball had the kind of chip which takes videos of world leaders getting it on with underage hookers.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 25, 2018 7:31 PM |
This 12 billion subsidy to soybean farmers is really sticking in my craw. These are same assholes who decry all welfare recipients as lazy no goods, but you can be damn sure farmers will be lining up to get their "gubmint check."
White = welfare good. Black/Brown = welfare bad.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 25, 2018 7:35 PM |
Oh so it's ok to make false claims huh R50. Sounds more like you're the bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 25, 2018 7:35 PM |
I want to punch Pompeo in the face. Little cunt has no intentions to answer any tough questions today and sounds like a broken propaganda tape.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | July 25, 2018 7:36 PM |
Menendez did a nice job of shaming Pompeo. I'm hoping the rest of the dems can keep it up.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 25, 2018 7:38 PM |
I am not a troll, R41. I have pointed at OP's misogyny, because it happens to be true (I can post a link where that is patently clear). But that is irrelevant to these threads and I will not post about it again.
However I have never done anything as vile as your post below (from the previous thread). It is absolutely despicable to accuse people in such manner, to actually manufacture a quote... unreal.
There is arguing and bitching, and there is blatant lying of your kind:
[quote]Funny considering R472 is a homophobe with a history of using gay and racial slurs and saying "Jews got what they deserved."

Go Cardin! Pompeo is a terrible liar!
by Anonymous | reply 58 | July 25, 2018 7:45 PM |
Good point, r56.
Of course, farmers are real Americans weren't meant to be hurt (probably including the multinational farm corporations that will beg to get those billions).
Puerto Rico is only sort of American, and plus no voters. I did a great job. They are ingrates.
That's how this idiot thinks.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 25, 2018 7:46 PM |
Wasn't the Lying Treason-in-Chief just saying that he's closing a bilateral deal with Mexico on NAFTA like, any moment now?
Apparently, Mexico and Canada beg to differ with "the best dealmaker".
[quote]The two Mexican government ministers responsible for NAFTA negotiations say they still regard Donald Trump’s insistence on a five-year termination clause in the accord as a deal breaker and emphasize they are only interested in a three-way deal involving Canada, the United States and Mexico. The unequivocal statements from Economy Minister Ildefonso Guajardo and Foreign Affairs Minister Luis Videgaray followed a meeting with Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland in Mexico City on Wednesday.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 25, 2018 7:52 PM |
R41, falsely accusing a poster of homophobia and racism is not cool.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 25, 2018 8:05 PM |
Dudette, you promised ten threads back that you wouldn’t bring up the misogyny accusations again, and yet here you are. Honestly, I am the original (female and feminist, as it happens) OP and I think you should let it go, just as I said ten threads back. This OP is doing great work keeping the threads alive, timely and funny, and it IS important work. I’m just thankful he’s a patriot. You should be too.
Do you think it is better to derail an anti-Trump thread due to whatever purity test you have in your head? Really? That’s the greater good when our country has been invaded by Putin? Fucking really?
Let it go.

Miss Linds had another interview today. This time on Fox radio. Why is one Senator doing spin daily for Trump. Linds will expressed modest concerns about tariffs as if she is subduing her criticism of Trump on an issue; then goes into a hissy fit over FISA warrants and DOJ/FBI "Democrats".
by Anonymous | reply 77 | July 25, 2018 9:14 PM |
I have more respect for a used semen soaked tissue than I do for Miss Lindsay. What a tool.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | July 25, 2018 9:17 PM |
Sorry, R55 you're full of it. What you've stated is the equivalent of, "I could send you facts to prove I'm right... but I'm not gonna!!!!" Because you can't. And don't say stuff like you're not going to provide proof of your claim because it's irrelevant to the thread because you've been spreading the same shit over and over and making shit up throughout all of these threads trying to distract.
We can see OPs history ourselves and there's been nothing of the sort. We can see your history as well and it's full of bizarre claims accusing people of a bunch of weird stuff. There's no way you can tell if ANYONE has been "banned" for anything.
Just stop.

Both bickering posters seem to be gone/banned, anyway.

Everyone actually knows the FISA Warrent is airtight. So Lindsay is looking like a fool, questioning it. Why no FISA Warrent against Jared? He travels the world selling protection, isn't there a law?

R85 neither is repeatedly falsely claiming that someone is a misogynist and continuing to post it thread after thread.

R87, would anyone even care if OP is a misogynist? Casual misogyny is common on DL, my guess is no one would.

So is "casual racism and homophobia," R88 so not a good argument.

That's true, r89.
But there is a difference between being labeled a homophobe/racist/anti-Semite than a misogynist. People get red tagged for former and not the latter. For a good reason.

That's great news, R90.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | July 25, 2018 10:05 PM |
I disagree, R91. You don't get to scream that someone is falsely accusing you of anything when you've been doing the same to other people. Especially repeatedly and especially when that's your only activity in any of the threads.

Dad gave me a soccer ball one of his Russian friends gave him.
It's a funny-looking ball with wires and chips in it.
Plus, it keeps on making weird noises.
Dad says it's ok since that ball is from Russia.
Tbf, I don't think so. But I can't ask anyone here for help. And when I asked Mum she just said something along the lines of 'I really don't care, do you' with her barely comprehensible accent.
Can you help me, please? :-(

Because they are afraid it would end press conferences altogether if they stayed away. Also, let’s face it, these whores want access. Like Maggie Haberman. She’s on CNN, MSNBC, Meet the Press. She gets front page articles in NYT. That’s what the whole WH press corps wants. Access and fame and they also MARRY these people. Half of CNN’s reporters during Bush II were married to people in his administration. Andrea Mitchell is married to Greenspan. Campbell Brown married Dan Senor, an investment banker at the Carlyle Group and provisional leader of the coalition in Iraq, “the face of the Bush Administration in Iraq.” Chris Cuomo is the son of former NY guv Mario Cuomo and brother of current NY guv Andrew Cuomo.
Bet there was nothing like that going on during watergate.

CNN.com:
"It's a Band-Aid on a broken leg," said Michael Petefish, a 33-year-old Trump supporter and fifth generation soybean farmer in southern Minnesota. "And to be blunt, it seems pretty political and seems like they want to shore up some midterm support."
He added: "Pretend someone smashed your car, and then someone said, 'Don't worry, I will give you a ride to the next place you have to go.' Well, thank you, I appreciate the ride, but what am I going to do the next 10 rides I need after that?"
Joel Schreurs, a soybean farmer from Tyler, Minnesota, said the plan was a "good start" but not a fix that works in the long run.
"I firmly believe we need to either create more markets or be able to work it out with China because we are going to produce way too many soybeans for the markets that we have," he said. "It's a short-term fix."
Schreurs said the economics of the issue make it difficult to solve. He grows about 25,000 bushels of soybeans a year, so if the price goes down $2, that costs him around $50,000.
"Not many people would like it if they took $50,000 away from their business when it is something that they didn't have anything to do with," Schreurs said.

So if, during the campaign, he had been accused of paying off a playboy bunny or a porn star, who would have been shocked? I'm talking about the people who supported him. That Access Hollywood tape did him a minimum amount of damage if any, and I think he was stupid to have attempted to buy his way out an quash it. He's always been a whore.

1. Trump looked exceedingly weak compared to Putin at the Helsinki news conference. In every word, deed and action both then, and since, Putin’s totally dominated Trump.
2. During their two hour confab, it appears one of them suggested Trump invite Putin to a State Visit in the US. Trump was so eager to please, he rushed to extend the invitation without any advance work, and without even discussing it, with his own National Security Team: his obsequiousness and incompetence embarrassingly on display to the entire world.
3. Putin further demonstrated his dominance by hedging as to whether he’d accept an invitation from his fawning supplicant, the so-called Leader of the Free World. Smack.
Rather than read Putin to filth, Trump “postponed” his summit like a teenage girl (“I broke up with you first”), and tried to blame it on Mueller.
Three times in eleven days Putin’s demonstrated to anyone with eyes that he owns Trump’s ass outright.
More Kudos to OP for the picture.

Serious question: If the Democrats take the House but not the Senate, can there still be ethics investigations into, oh, well, let's see...EVERYTHING? It kills me that there are so many blatant ethics violations by Trump, his family and the people in his administration that seem to go unchecked. Does it take both chambers to correct this situation?

by Anonymous | reply 182 | July 26, 2018 12:14 PM |
Yes, R181, the House committees can undertake investigations. In their oversight capacity, the House and Senate work independently of each other for the most part. On occasion they may have joint committees to look into specific topics, but that is not the norm. So, yes, when the Dems retake the House they will begin to have hearings into this nightmare. And there are likely plenty of shady dealings to be uncovered in the departments and agencies.
by Anonymous | reply 183 | July 26, 2018 12:19 PM |
I said it earlier and I'll say it again, I believe Putin came into that meeting pissed off and let Trump know he was real pissed off. Now it might have been theater, or it may have been real, (I think a little of both) but Putin had to show some anger at 12 of his GRU people being indicted by Mueller whose indictment was very specific. I'm also thinking he put some pressure on Trump about finding out where the spies are and who they are. They were together for more than 2 hours so it had to come up.
One of the things that has concerned me ever since I realized what a dolt Trump is, was his inability to withhold top secret information from our enemies. I'd bet Putin wants to know who is spying on him. That whole thing about stripping our former top people of security clearances came out of this meeting, I betcha. Trump in particular probably thought Brennan and Rice, and Clapper were reading top secret, raw information about Mueller's investigation then leaking it to the press and talking about it on TV.
Not true. They don't even have clearances anymore. What they do have is knowledge based on their own experience with Russia and other threats to our country and with methodologies. They know the protocol and they analyze Trump's behavior, etc.
As for Trump ruining our economy and weakening it, I feel like we're on this really busy highway, and cars a re speeding by, and we see a drunk driver, careening all over the road, and we know he is going to get into an accident and get someone killed and the cops are sitting on the side of the road just watching him, clocking him on radar and doing nothing to stop the driver.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | July 26, 2018 12:25 PM |
Just a note on clearances—people would not be allowed access to any classified material just because they have the clearance. You’re also required to have a “need to Know”—that is, you need access to the material to do your job. People keep clearances because they move in and out of government jobs, and it’s costly and time-consuming to get clearances each time. None of the private citizens being threatened with pulling their clearance actually reviews classified material anymore. This is just your classic drumpf temper tantrum.
by Anonymous | reply 185 | July 26, 2018 12:31 PM |

The red, white and blue banners for U.S. President Donald Trump’s second-term campaign are ready to ship, emblazoned with the words “Keep America Great!”
But they are made in eastern China and soon could be hit by punitive tariffs of Trump’s own making as he ratchets up a rancorous trade dispute with Beijing.

I think Cohen is counting on a better deal from Mueller than from Cheeto. And, he's probably right -- which, for this clown would be a first. Mueller might be able to influence the NY state authorities to go easy on Cohen if he cooperates, whereas Trump can't do anything as far as state charges are concerned. Lanny Davis is a very smart lawyer -- which Cohen is not. Lanny would know which avenue is going to produce the best results.

by Anonymous | reply 219 | July 26, 2018 3:25 PM |
In other words, R218, he served up the recording to show Mueller his hand...and others, but if he was already cooperating with Mueller, wouldn't he have been told to keep it wrapped up?
I'm at risk of sounding stupid here, but I really have no idea what game Cohen is playing here.
by Anonymous | reply 220 | July 26, 2018 3:28 PM |
About a month before Michael Cohen released his recording of a sensitive conversation he had with Donald Trump, the President's longtime attorney and adviser was agonizing over the silent treatment he was getting from his former boss.
"I don't understand why no one's calling me. I don't understand why no one's communicating with me," Cohen told Bo Dietl, a longtime friend and well-known private investigator who relayed the conversation to CNN.
"He was very taken aback that no one was communicating with him," Dietl said. "You're so close to somebody and all of a sudden they stop talking to you, you wonder what's happened."
Over the next month, Cohen began sending up flares, signaling that he was considering cooperating with federal prosecutors and that his ultimate loyalty would be not to Trump, but to his "family and country."
Sources close to Trump speculated that Cohen's release of the tape was his latest attempt to show Trump he means business and is prepared to provide prosecutors with damaging information about his former boss -- but they also said it was the wrong strategy, and that it was unlikely to make Trump eager to help Cohen legally or financially.
It's unclear if Cohen has any legally damning information to provide special counsel Robert Mueller about Trump. But the public breakup has only ramped up the speculation that Cohen will "flip" on the President.
by Anonymous | reply 221 | July 26, 2018 3:29 PM |
Someone clear something up for me. So these tapes that Cohen released... Im assuming they weren't taken in the raid? And because he's now revealed he still has tapes in his possession can't they get a warrant to take them?
by Anonymous | reply 222 | July 26, 2018 3:32 PM |
R222 The lawyers on the news are saying that having a witness to go along with the tapes so they can explain the details makes the tape evidence more valuable in court.
by Anonymous | reply 223 | July 26, 2018 3:37 PM |
I don't think that Mueller could give a rat's ass about those tapes as far as they involve payments to silence his ex-lovers. Yes, it is likely a violation of the law, but they have so many other things to charge Trump with that his conspiracy to commit election fraud would be way down on any list. And, I doubt that the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York cares much about them either. They were a titillating by-product of the raid, but the feds were after other information concerning different topics.
by Anonymous | reply 224 | July 26, 2018 3:39 PM |
Every time Trump does one of his tutting "too bad" tweets about Cohen, it hits my brain wrong. The whole thing feels like a set up. Like they're trying to plant Cohen in Mueller's office. Someone please talk me off the ledge.
by Anonymous | reply 225 | July 26, 2018 3:40 PM |
R222, I have wondered the same thing. Perhaps he made duplicates of everything and therefore investigators allowed him to keep the second set? That seems really weird though too, they likely would have had to listen to ALL of the duplicates to ascertain there wasn’t any new evidence on them. That takes a long time to do, investigators aren’t exactly known for returning evidence to people quickly.
The only other scenario I can think of is that prosecutors let Cohen keep these particular tapes because they don’t feel these tapes are of any value. And if THIS scenario is accurate, then wtf is on the tapes the government DID seize?
by Anonymous | reply 226 | July 26, 2018 3:41 PM |

odd, or oddly brilliant. Keep them a bit off guard, off balance, by allowing Cohen to do what he's doing
by Anonymous | reply 230 | July 26, 2018 3:45 PM |
R225 that’s not a crazy theory at all. Cohen has gone waaaaaay out of his way to be seen with our side; Donny Deutsch, Tom Arnold, the Reverend. Al Sharpton, Avenatti. Trump doesn’t normally tweet about people he fears. Why is he tweeting about Cohen is he fears him so much????So yes indeed, the whole thing could be a set up. I’m not saying I think that, but let’s be smart, they are indeed that conniving, scheming, and nasty. We would be stupid to not consider this. I’m on the fence on that theory. And r229 makes a strong point too. WHY did the government allow him to keep tapes knowing he could play this game and it could damage their case? That is actually a million dollar question that I would like the answer to! If the government let him keep the tapes precisely so they could let him be the bad guy and do some PR damage to Trump (knowing that they canNOT get caught leaking), then kudos, it is soooooo overdue that they fight back. Maybe that’s why?

I was watching some show that discussed this on MSNBC or CNN, and they said Cohen was upset with Giuliani trying to lie and smear him, and just the way Trump and his people were attempting to marginalize him, so he released that tape specifically to show that Rudy is a liar.
I'll tell you one thing. Lanny Davis is not to be trifled with. Cohen was very aware of his background. Hiring him should have been a huge signal to Trump. And Lanny is not going to sign on with Cohen only to have Cohen get into some underhanded games to cooperate with Trump. No. I believe this is real.
I also believe Avenatti is all over the place. One minute he is "willing to talk to Cohen about representing him" another minute he thinks Cohen is playing us and is really still with Trump. I get it. Avenatti knows a lot of dirt on the Trump crowd. I get it that Avenatti had this client and was going after Cohen and Trump daily.
But things have changed and Avenatti is having trouble finding his footing amidst a very fluid situation, and revising his plan. I like Avenatti. He hates Trump but he is also taking full advantage of every opportunity to be out here on TV. It's like, "Stormy who?"

Avenatti says there are more women paid off before the election and one of them includes a pregnancy. He cometh, I was shocked
He spoke, I was mocked
I valiantly tried to resist
But his macho thrust just persist
I was vulnerable and overcome with vapors
How, I wondered, could I cope with his capers
Handling gentleman has been my expertise
Then I lay on my fainting couch covered by fleece
And much to my delighted surprise
An invitation to a golf outing got me to arise
It was such a wonderful good time
Just watching him take strokes observing his behind
On the ninth hole he pulled me aside
Conveying he has something important to confide
He said I know your secrets my dear
Work with me, and you will have no fear
A Russian birdie told me about your dallies
He was quite specific following one of my rallies
He handed me a pile of printed Emails and pics
None had chicks, but plenty of dicks
I said, Mr. President I am at your disposal
He replied, I have a proposal
He said help rid these witch hunt investigations
and I will keep secret your naughty relations
He says you must obsessively kiss my butt
More eager than when Sarah visits Pizza Hut
Thank you Mr. President I do declare
You must know how much I care

WSJ confirms "U.S. Person 2" referred to in the Maria Butina indictment is George O'Neill Jr., Rockefeller heir and conservative writer.
Court papers describe Ms. Butina discussing with Americans the idea of holding “friendship dinners” to bring together Russians with politically active Americans. One of those Americans, prosecutors say, hosted such a dinner in February 2017 before that year’s National Prayer Breakfast.
Mr. O’Neill, an heir to the Rockefeller fortune and an outspoken advocate of closer ties with Russia, hosted that event, as he confirmed in a magazine column. The charging documents say Ms. Butina told him that a representative of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s administration had approved “building this communications channel.”

r304....really ?.....there are far more than one, they just havent been exposed publicly yet.....remember, the Butina charging documents state that there are secret societies within the GOP that are aligned with Russia. It even states that they were forced underground when the Russia investigation and Mueller started to shine a spotlight on them.....but they are very active. The GOP can deny it all they want, but their actions betray them.

This is a long read but worth it.
[quote]A 16-year-old hacker broke into as ExpressPoll voting machine used by Georgia in 45 minutes. Another cyberhacker showed how he could change votes in the WINvote machine used in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Mississippi, with only a computer, a mouse and a Microsoft Word document, as long as he had the password. But the hacker soon discovered that WINvote machines all had the same password. The password, which could not be changed, was (you might want to take a deep breath) “abcde.”
[quote]A recent report by the New York Times detailed how a Pennsylvania auditor checking his state’s voting system found remote access software on the system that tallies votes. Electronic Systems & Software, the company that makes those machines, is the biggest voting machine manufacturer in America. To be clear, this was not a voting machine. The system that counts votes had software installed that allowed a person who was not on the scene to gain access to the voting results. But the strangest part of this revelation was why the machine was being audited in the first place: Pennsylvania voters complained that the ES&S machines were changing or “flipping” votes.

And we have to remind ourselves that all these "official" reports, and troll comment on social media, of the general public losing faith in Democrats and individual party members of the Democratic Party are done to establish the narrative that these are the very valid reasons why the mid-term election hardly made an dent (meaning the Dems didn't win that many seats) and it has nothing to do with Russia hacking an election again.
by Anonymous | reply 329 | July 26, 2018 10:42 PM |
The article also talks about how when it was discovered the only way to check Georgia's records to see if anything had been changed was to compare files to the backup files.... Georgia quickly wiped the hard drive with the back up files.

Did I hear Jeffery Toobin on CNN correctly? I thought he said that Trump, as President, couldn't be indicted or prosecuted, but the Special Counsel would deliver a report through the DOJ whereby it would be up to Congress to decide whether or not to impeach. Then another panelist said a Democratic Congress would impeach, but the Senate would not convict.
I find this difficult to believe. If Trump is determined to have engaged in a conspiracy with a hostile foreign power to swing an election, then engaged in obstruction of a judicial investigation, and also its determined he engaged in financial crimes, such as tax evasion or money laundering;. all that is rendered is a damn report? A damn report for politicians to squabble about and ultimately leave Trump in office?

I was listening to a Progressive Radio station earlier and a caller called in with a story about how her husband checked his voter registration and found that he had been removed from the voter rolls for no reason. She checked hers and was fine. She decided to check again two months later and she had been purged. Make sure you're checking your voter registration and do it often. And make sure those around you are doing the same (unless they're Rethugs!)
by Anonymous | reply 339 | July 26, 2018 11:22 PM |
Omg. R339, I think that’s actually sage advice we can all actually USE — check your registration once a month between now and the midterms. Take a screen shot each time. Use social media to tell others to do the same.
Two good reasons to do this; 1) we all need to make sure we can actually vote this fall and 2) it's yet another step toward helping the general population accept that we WERE mother fucking hacked in the 2016 election. I think the IC is super close to admitting this to the people, anything we can do to help them tip toward admitting it publicly is good.
The IC MUST tell the people the truth, it is the only way forward!!!!! Americans WILL accept it and move on. The people must have the Truth.

Reading R327's article, all I can think is this:
We better learn that there were absolutely no votes changed. Lie to me, if you must. I don't care.
Because if I find out that Trump lost the election, that Hillary won fair and square and we know it for a fact... but there are no "do overs," no rescinding everything Trump has done, every executive order or bill he's signed, every judge he's appointed, everything... If I find out that we're still stuck with this motherfucker even though the entire world knows he's an illegitimate president I will NOT be able to contain myself.

So now what? I’ll TELLyou what. We start a national conversation on what to DO. Laws. Rules. Undoing. Repairing. Evolving. Fighting. Insisting. That is what we do!!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 342 | July 26, 2018 11:42 PM |
R341 we already KNOW that that is exactly what happened.
And because we should not forget, this has been posted in several of the threads:
[quote]There's already proof. I work in the industry. I sat in a meeting with the head of cyber security investigations for the FBI in Florida. Their systems were hacked in 2016. What's difficult is proving that (or more accurately stated "how") the votes were manipulated. But go back to election night and remember how Trump pulled ahead in Florida, NC, MI, PA and WI. It happened almost like clock work once the precincts reporting crossed the 50% threshold. This shit is deep. Putin had already done this in his own election and also in Ukraine. We should be very worried about the EU elections coming up.

I figure Butina isn't the only Russian spy working this but she's involved in everything. No matter where we turn, there she is, right in the middle of every picture, organizing every event, in contact with every Repug and every Repug organization out there. It's an insane level of involvement for this one woman.
And, again, not one Dem in sight anywhere near her or, seemingly, any of the systemic corruption. I figured by now there would have been one lonely, desperate Democrat from a red state somehow connected to her but, nope, not one...and you know that Faux News is looking.

So spare me your angst that Hillary lost after rightfully winning, I was there a fucking year and a half ago!!!!!! Where the fuck were you who are claiming you can’t handle the idea that Hillary actually won?!?!? I’m serious, where the fuck have you been?????? Yes, it is probably the greatest travesty in our history ONLY matched by the Civil War. It is unfathomable. And yet it is. So now we MUST move forward with that knowledge so that this can never ever ever ever ever happen again, to any party, to any VOTER. It is the ultimate betrayal of a voter, and it must be our mission to stop it from ever ever happening again.

by Anonymous | reply 347 | July 26, 2018 11:53 PM |
r346 some people take awhile to wake up. For the Democratic wave to happen the always-aware have to wake up the sleepyheads and show them how their nation's been damaged, how at risk it is, and how the "independents" or "never-voted-before" types can help correct the direction. The arbiters and facilitators should also work on the outraged and polarized grudgeholders like me: "they're not monsters. They're not programmed Deplorables. They've been misled and rubbing their noses in their abstentions will not win them over. Share the facts with them without namecalling."

by Anonymous | reply 349 | July 27, 2018 12:05 AM |
Look, I'm well aware that this is exactly what happened. It's not even remotely a surprise.
As for "what are you gonna do about it?" just what the hell do you think anyone can do about it? I mean, get real. You think Trump would step aside? You think the GOP would ask him to? You think they're gonna give us our SCOTUS picks back when they wouldn't give us the last one that was rightfully Obama's in the first place? You think they're gonna be like, "Oh, okay, Hills, you can be president now"...?
We would never even be TOLD that actual votes were changed. They can't afford to tell us because there would be utter pandemonium, a complete breakdown in the security of our democracy's most important institution. You think the culture war and the war between right and left is bad now? Just imagine when Trump's base is told the guy they voted for isn't the president. FAKE NEWS! Are you kidding? They have all the fucking guns and just the right amount--however tiny--of intelligence to know where to point them.
There is absolutely fuck-all that can be done about the last election. Anyone entertaining dreams of Hillary kicking this fascist fuck out of the Oval Office needs to wake up.
The only thing we can do is vote them out and vote Dems in the next chance we get.
You want to stick up and fight for something? Fight for election security so this shit doesn't happen again. But good luck with that when the entire GOP is in on the action.

And no shit, it’s going to be a war. No shit our Congress is literally invested with cockroaches. But I think you sound like a first-class pussy when you talk about Deplorables and their guns. This is getting weirder and weirder by the second. Rachel Maddow just reported that Lanny Davis just released a statement saying that the leak that came out tonight was not from them, meaning neither Cohen nor Lanny leaked this.
Rachel is speculating that Trump?!? or his lawyers might have been the ones who released this info instead.
Huh?

R399 Only the deplorables would believe Trump didn't know in the first place. He drafted the lies for Jr. to deny the meeting for collusion for goodness sake. The Trumps and their cronies have no conscience... they will lie a thousand times if you let them get away with it. Everyone in this administration and many of the GOP enablers needs to all go to jail for running this treasonous scam.

I tend to think you’re right, R410, it’s going to be wall-to-wall “Cohen is a liar” attacks from the Trump team from now until his trial. And this takes away a serious bargaining chip Cohen had to offer in exchange for leniency.

Yes, R464, I'm sure Mueller has multiple ways to confirm Cheeto knew and approved of the meeting.
The panel on Lawrence O'Donnell's show are all, This is absolutely proof of collusion. The emails arranging the meeting explicitly say this is part of the Russian effort to help Trump. Trump approved of the meeting, aka conspired with the Russian effort to help him.

R469, it's more likely than not that Mueller /DOJ will follow the guidelines and not charge a sitting president. The only venue is impeachment. So-- it has been said time and again, the only remedy is to vote in Democratic majorities.
Even if there won't be enough votes in the Senate to convict in the beginning, maybe when a Dem House starts to hold real hearings and investigations, and the scandals grow, maybe this will create some momentum and pressure, and maybe the public will turn out to protest. Who knows. But even if the Senate is unable to vote in favor, just impeachment by the House will be definitely something.
We always come to the same conclusion, the only way out is to elect Dem Congress.

If the Repugs allow him to somehow get away with it, and his supporters end up ok with this, then they never again get to talk about patriotism, the flag or American values. At that point, we might as well just chunk the flag in the garbage and hoist up the flag of the Russian Federation.

As I listen to Lawrence O'Donnell, apparently there is some legal issue about this news leaking and it could impact Cohen's being a cooperating witness or something. If Cohen were the source it would not be good for him. That's why Lanny issued the denial. Because it impacts Cohen's status.
by Anonymous | reply 477 | July 27, 2018 2:57 AM |
OK - this is really out there! Perhaps Cohen came forward because he finally gave up on the idea that Trump would pardon him. BUT - maybe Lanny Davis convinced him that if he really did have enough evidence to convict Trump and show the entire POTUS election was completely invalid - and this is where my notion gets really nutty - the incoming Democratic President who replaces Trump will pardon Cohen.
Am I nuts?

by Anonymous | reply 487 | July 27, 2018 3:09 AM |
R487 if Drumpf goes down so does Pence. He was the person in charge of the transition team and he lied about what he know.
If Drumpf goes down he's only going down if there's a Democratic controlled Congress and therefore yes, it would be a Democrat replacing it.

by Anonymous | reply 491 | July 27, 2018 3:26 AM |
Why would they leak it? It is damaging. If its to hurt Cohen wouldn't that just encourage him to spill everything earlier?
And what if the leak is false? Is it just meant to damage Cohen's credibility? If he feels attacked like that wouldn't the net result still be that he will accelerate spilling the beans?
by Anonymous | reply 492 | July 27, 2018 3:26 AM |
If i were the Republican leadership, McConnell and others, I would have been thinking for months about the best time for Trump to go.
The worst time, is after Jan 20, 2019. If the Congress flips to Dem, with Pillosi as Speaker, he could be impeached. And, the Dems could find a reason to impeach Pence, too, leading to a Dem President.
The best time, might be to wait to see the midterm results. If they are bad, impeach quickly after the election, before the new Congress is seated. That makes Ryan President.
In any event, I bet they have a plan. A flexible one, depending on circumstances, but they have a plan with all the various contingencies.

R492 Drumpf's team is not the brightest. They seem to just throw shit at the wall and see what sticks.
I do wonder if any of it is true and if Cohen DID go to the Mueller with it already. If so, then the question is how does Drumpf know about it?
The other question I would ask is with regard to people saying that Cohen does stuff like this in order to signal to Drumpf what he's willing to do... but then I wonder why would he have to do that? Certainly he has a back channel whether through various people or what have you.
The ONLY other thing I can think of is that maybe Drumpf and team are worried that Cohen WAS in a meeting and maybe he recorded it and maybe they are already in possession of it and they were trying to feel out if that was the case.

He said that all depends on what law is implicated as violated, and that if it's campaign law, it's apparently one of the few laws where there's an exception for not knowing the law (which doesn't exist in other laws). At least that's what I got from what he was saying. But he also added that there was at least one person there who wasn't new to politics and campaigns - Manafort.
This ignorance defense possibility is only significant if there are actual criminal charges. As it was discussed, Cheeto may not be indicted, and Mueller instead will deliver a report to Rosenstein / DOJ. It's up to Congress to do something with it, aka impeachment and there it's all political. Congress decides what high crimes and misdemeanors are.
by Anonymous | reply 512 | July 27, 2018 3:52 AM |
What if they are charged with accepting campaign funds from a foreign country -- is it just a misdemeanor?
by Anonymous | reply 513 | July 27, 2018 3:55 AM |
Remember how it went the last time: "It's not the crime, it's the cover-up."
by Anonymous | reply 514 | July 27, 2018 3:57 AM |
You'd have to be a half-dead lemur to not know that getting dirt from Russia during a Presidential campaign wasn't illegal. Even if you didn't know the specific statutes. And then all the actions after!
Do you really think Mueller is going to deliver a tepid slap on the wrist report?
by Anonymous | reply 515 | July 27, 2018 3:57 AM |
So if the thinking is that they won't indict a sitting false POTUS... well, his children can still be charged.
Not that I believe he'd care.
by Anonymous | reply 516 | July 27, 2018 3:58 AM |
I realize Trump hasn't released his tax returns, but does Mueller have access to them?
by Anonymous | reply 517 | July 27, 2018 3:58 AM |
I think Mueller has it ALL. More than anyone knows. Anytime there is a leak that is seismic, I bet he's known for months beforehand...
by Anonymous | reply 518 | July 27, 2018 3:59 AM |
Mueller has access to everything.
But I've never understood why anyone thinks Dotard's Returns are going to tell us anything.
by Anonymous | reply 519 | July 27, 2018 4:01 AM |
R515, the point is that Mueller may not want to bring criminal charges against a sitting president. What will be his report, we don't know.
I hope it will be damning and excoriating. But a report isn't a criminal indictment per se. If Mueller goes that way (report), it's up to Congress to go to impeachment or not.
by Anonymous | reply 520 | July 27, 2018 4:01 AM |
Remember Trump dictated the letter on Air Force One about how the meeting was about adoption. There’s got to be a crime in there somewhere.
by Anonymous | reply 521 | July 27, 2018 4:01 AM |
I would travel to DC to protest if Trump was not prosecuted. If enough people went on a congressional workday, it would move the congress.
by Anonymous | reply 522 | July 27, 2018 4:04 AM |
With the Cohen info out there, it's now virtually proven Don Jr. lied to Congress which is a crime. (Yes, we all know he lied, but lawyers need proof).
Charge Jr. with obstruction and lying to Congress, that's a start.
by Anonymous | reply 523 | July 27, 2018 4:06 AM |
Remember how the Starr investigation was a circus? Mueller has been stonefaced and serious as shit. I think his report will be severe and damning.
by Anonymous | reply 524 | July 27, 2018 4:08 AM |
[quote] So if the thinking is that they won't indict a sitting false POTUS... well, his children can still be charged.
He will pardon them the minute they are charged.
And for the person who constantly says someone has to be found guilty in order to be pardoned, for the 369th time,....no. You don't. You don't even have to be charged. Gerald Ford pardoned Nixon who was never charged with a crime.
by Anonymous | reply 525 | July 27, 2018 4:10 AM |
R525 he can pardon them for Federal crimes... not state crimes.
by Anonymous | reply 526 | July 27, 2018 4:13 AM |
And yes that is accurate. You don't have to be charged with a crime to be pardoned. I remember shortly after the election pundits were saying one way he could fuck with HRC would be to pardon her. That even if she didn't do anything wrong the pardon would give the APPEARANCE of having done something wrong and she'd never live it down.
by Anonymous | reply 527 | July 27, 2018 4:14 AM |
They aren't being investigated by any states. It's all federal.
by Anonymous | reply 528 | July 27, 2018 4:15 AM |
That you know of, R528. Mueller can easily turn over what he's found on them to the States.
by Anonymous | reply 529 | July 27, 2018 4:16 AM |
R527, that’s a risk, pardoning Hillary. She would refuse the pardon, and from there, who knows how people would react, or where it would go.
by Anonymous | reply 530 | July 27, 2018 4:18 AM |
R530 the point was that for the Deplorables it wouldn't matter. As long as he gave her a pardon it would fuck with her and they'd cheer. They would automatically think it meant guilt. The Pundits weren't saying he should or would actually do it.
by Anonymous | reply 531 | July 27, 2018 4:20 AM |
Ok, and my point is it could backfire. It might matter to the Deplorables after all.
by Anonymous | reply 532 | July 27, 2018 4:25 AM |
He can, but the state still has to do an investigation. If the state doesn't do its own investigation and just takes mueller' stuff, charges the person and find them guilty it can be overturned because the state didn't do its own investigation before charging someone with a crime.
And if Trumps children were charged in federal court and entered a plea before being pardoned, or if a jury is sworn in, they cannot be charged with the same crimes in the state of NY.
"New York’s statutory protections could result in the unintended and unjust consequence of insulating someone pardoned for serious federal crimes from subsequent prosecution for state crimes—even if that person was never tried or convicted in federal court, and never served a single day in federal prison.”
At issue is the question of when jeopardy “attaches,” or takes effect. That can happen when a defendant pleads to a crime, or when a jury is sworn in. A president could wait until a jury was sworn in or a plea entered, and then pardon them, and the former defendant could then cite the New York statute to prevent being tried in state court.
“Simply put, a defendant pardoned by the President for a serious federal crime could be freed from all accountability under federal and state criminal law, even though the President has no authority under the U.S. Constitution to pardon state crimes,” Schneiderman wrote."

A few thoughts.....
What if both Trump and Cohen did not release this, hmmmmm? Could this be the IC finally going apeshit on him and deciding they’re willing to take him down in flames? Obviously if this came from the IC, whoever leaked will be caught and prosecuted strenuously, even though he/she is a fucking HERO.
Second....I had a weird flash while mulling it all over. I could DEFINITELY see Ivanka breaking. And even turning. I mean against her father (not Jared) because of her children. Do you really think she’s strong enough to keep going? I say she is not.
Other possible leakers include Trump Jr’s soon to be Ex, and/or.....MELANIE.
Last but not least, and this is a REAL wild card....what if Trump did indeed leak this, but didn’t do it in a fit of rage at Cohen, but instead is going kamikaze? What if he realizes he’s checkmated, and that his only hope of protecting his money is to get out of office and thereby (in his feeble mind) ending the investigation? Wouldn’t that be delicious too?

What leak are you talking about? The Cohen testimony about the Russia meeting? Because a lot of people think that leak came from Trump. He's trying to deflate Muellers eventual report by leaking bits of it before it's released. That way, Trump's propagandists like Rudy can go out there and assure everyone that this is unimportant. The point is for them to do whatever they can to smear Cohen. It sounds about right to me. Trump does shit like this in order to loose an onslaught of propaganda from Fox and Trump's henchmen.

[quote] Yes this is Trumps style to leak things, but no, it’s not his style to leak evidence of massive crimes.
First, it's not a massive crime. It's a campaign violation that might be a misdemeanor, or might be a felony that could easily be pleaded down to a misdemeanor. When we talk about crime were talking about the law, not about our feeling toward the crime.
Second, Trump is a master at PR. That's how he got famous and stayed famous. He understands the 24 hour news cycle because he has exploited it for years. He understands the average person's attention span and how they only half listen to things. The Mueller report might contain a good number of bombshells. These bombshells, if released all at once, may overwhelm people to the point where they think "This is terrible! He must be guilty."
But if the bombshells are slowly leaked over a period of months, that dilutes their power to shock and allows your surrogates to go on tv and to write stories on the net that smear the person who the bombshell depends upon. Giuliani, Breitbart, Daily Caller, etc will spend days smearing Cohen and saying that people who get immunity will lie and make up crimes in order to save themselves. Facebook and Twitter will get bombarded with pro-Trump, anti-Cohen, anti Mueller messages
It's called "Getting in front of the story." So when Mueller releases his report, deplorables and the vast right wing media will say, "This is old news that was discredited." Because the bombshells are already out there and were propagandized for months, the impact is greatly diluted.
Trump is uneducated and incurious, but he is crafty. He learned from Roy Cohn, one of the world's most successful bitches, how to counterattack in order to really hurt someone. His ability to punch back knows no limits.
