Someone on the other thread asked me if my opinion that Matt's friends lack substance was based on the fact they are in the fashion industry. No, it's not.

Based on their social media connections, for many of them fashion, celebrity and their "cool friend" connections are all they care about. Look at Gia K and Lillian D. Not a single charitable cause, journalist, author, political stance--nothing--pops up as a something they follow. (Art and architecture don't count since all the cool kids are "into" art and architecture.) I'd say the same for a doctor who only follows medical stuff or a business person who only follows financial things. Lack of intellectual interest in a variety of topics to me means lack of substance. At least Matt seems to have a few causes he follows and was photographed reading a novel. He'd be better to escape to Lee's world than bringing Lee into his circle of one-dimensional friends. I think Matt's an intelligent guy who needs to shake the "cool kids" crap. He doesn't seem likely to do that, however, so I think he and Lee will not be in it for too long once Lee retreats to his own life. Yes, Lee always had a passing interest in fashion, but not to this extent. He is bound to get bored and resume his own interests.

As for "oh, Lee going to the farm will be fine since he was on the farm the first few months of the relationship"-no. First, what you're willing to tolerate in the first few months of a relationship isn't the same as what you're willing to do as time goes on. Second, any time there is evidence of Matt at the farm, his friends are there. Third, the first few months featured a trip to the beach (with Matt's friends), a trip to Paris (with Matt's friends), a trip to Costa Rica (with Matt's friends) and work. See the pattern here? It's not a good prognosis where each partner's interests aren't part of the relationship.

R12 thank you for your thoughts. I think however you are making a lot of assumptions based on someone’s Instagram. I don’t know the girls you are talking about and I assume neither do you so I think it’s really unfair to say people lack substance because they don’t follow charities and other such topics. Matt, however is not his friends and should not be judged as such. You say once lee retreats into his own life they will not last. What is Lee’s life? Lee appears to have made changes in his life to be more connected to people and to make more friends. He might want to retreat, but i don’t think matt will let him. Lee, who described himself as shy needs someone who’ll get him out of house and out experiencing the world. Lee has reconnected with old friends and cemented his place among the New York theatre community so I very much doubt he’ll lock himself away. I think he needs people or someone for his own mental health. lee has always been interested in fashion (and his ex too) but have perhaps kept it hidden for fear of appearing too gay. Lee is an actor first and foremost and what his partner does as an occupation doesn’t matter. It’s probably better he isn’t dating someone in the business.

They all seem to have well paid careers in their chosen profession. They all seem like decent people. Some people would give their right arm to have such a juicy career in fashion. The fact that they barely spend time alone together keeps me worrying. They almost always have Matt's friends around, makes it look like the two of them get bored quickly when they're only around each other, so they need company. It's indeed not a good sign for a relationship.

We only see when they have their friends around because we get little clues on SM. All the other times matt and lee are together they’re alone. For example, what were they doing last night? Thursday? Wednesday? Etc. Matt never posts on Insta now except when he’s away on business (and not with lee). When they were in CR the two of them stayed on and celebrated NEw year there while the rest of the group returned to New York. They did their own thing in CR as well as group activities like kayaking amongst the mangroves. In a group situation they were off having a cuddle or sharing fruit with each other and sharing a quad bike. I think you’re right it is worrying when a couple don’t spend anytime together but we only see a glimpse of their lives on SM. We know nothing.

Maybe Matt's in NYC last night, Thursday and Wednesday partying and Lee was at the farm with Pete garnering. :)

Ian works with Matt through TB and Matt does work with Julian through Childs NY as someone else here has stated. And even if all of what you said was true, that still isn’t a diverse group of people.

I like him with the beard too but he always seems younger to me when clean shaven. Like, to me he looks ten years older than he really is in the third season of HACF, but young in the first and second seasons. It makes sense, considering the character in supposed to be in his late forties, but then he is young again in season four. He's also a rare male who looks fine and sexy with long unkempt hair.

Sure they are tall guys, no one would call them short or of average height. But just that, tall.
