So now that neither Groff nor Mindhunter have gotten Emmy nominations can we discuss how Fincher does not deserve all the dick-stroking he’s gotten in these threads?

Another question to be asked is- Is Jonathan doomed to be a 2 seasons lead actor ? Will Mindhunter get a Season 3 nod?

I’d like to see it get 3 seasons exactly. I think the story will get old after that.

I think 3 seasons is enough. Mindhunter just isn't that compelling. Finch is best in film.

I really can’t see the concept lasting for 5 seasons. “Talking to killers/not showing violence” is a fresh change of pace for a true crime show, but 5 seasons of it?! Too much.

In regards to the story in Mindhunter getting old - look at Orange is the New Black - it's basically the same group of women stuck in a prison and it's on it's 6th season.

R17 Fair point, but from reading about Joe Penhall, they have a specific arc for the whole show - they may introduce a lot of different storylines that we have no conception of. Especially with the BTK killer.

R19 Joe Penhall’s no longer with the show & they scrapped his original plan. They also rewrote all of season 2 so who knows what the arc is at this point.

R22 the absolute last thing I want to see is Groff in old-man makeup portraying a 60-year-old talking to the BTK Killer. They do not have to follow his real life story to the end. Leaving him out there as a killer who had not yet been caught in the 1980s would be fine. I think the show should end with the publication of John Douglas’s/Holden Ford’s first book.

Read the end of the last thread, then caught up on this one. Yes, figuring out who will raise kids is a looong way off. However, the 'that's ridiculous' people should consider having a seat in a corner somewhere.

R49 I doubt he would be written out, but I have a theory he talked to Fincher about Bobby Darin going to Broadway in the next couple of years, and that could possibly been taken into consideration when the script was written.

R50 doubt it works that way. Producers are not going to compromise on story due to the actor wanting to do some other show,,,Groff is not even that big an actor to demand changes. It was always that way on the script....after the Holden breakdown, the operation may be handled by his colleagues for awhile. He is still the lead character and honestly I think the schedule for him last time around was grueling so no it does not worry me. I’m glad he has some time for himself. Also, I think Holt’s and Anna’s characters are interesting and I’d be happy to see more of them.

Why R92? There is no proof they were not together either. Nothing changes for the time being. We have to wait till either Corey comes to the US again (and that is not to be soon for sure) or Jon/Corey is seen with another guy or Jon says in an interview that he is single (and such an interview is not likely soon).

It's only boring that again we'll have to wait for long time until any new fact pops up and shed some light. IMO speculations are welcome if they are not just personal fantasy/obsession against all evidence. The fact that Corey popped up in NYC after NZ is intriguing. Since we don't know (yet) of any other reason why he was there, it is a sort of circumstantial evidence. Not enough proof of course. My guess is it's more likely they were together this time as well then not.

R101 I started this thread & I think his performance was great actually. I just think the role itself wasn’t showy enough to get a nomination. It’s a repressed character and didn’t allow him to show much range.

I’m also the person who said in a previous thread that I do not think Fincher is a great actor’s director and there is a reason that for all his acclaim his actors have gotten very few nominations or wins. His method presses all the spontaneity out of performances. Standing by that statement post-Emmys snub.

Fincher trying to mould his actors is repressing some of their ability. Groffs acting was not anything new to the screen. All the serial killer though were phenomenal . Cameroon had the meatiest role.

The guy is a Broadway actor, I doubt he'll ask him about his personal life. But who knows. It'll probably mainly focus on theater.

Here's one the same writer did with Holt back in January. He says some nice things about Groff, and also slyly hints about David Berkowitz possibly being in season 2. He says Berkowitz is in a prison 90 minutes from NYC, and that he wrote to him to ask if he could talk/interview with him. Could that be the reason why Groff has been in NYC more this season??

The interviewer will only ask about his love life if he (the interviewer) is gay. Women and straight men won’t ask. Perhaps there will be some clues though.

I am the one who thinks Jonathan was amazing and deserved the Emmy nom. However I can hear what people are saying that because he played a repressed character, and because Fincher made him restrain some of his natural charisma, that maybe his performance wasn't showy enough for the nom. I feel that he had the most difficult role, and that he was allowed only to display his charisma but when interviewing the serial killers, which is when he shined. I think his performance was a slow and interesting build, and that if you didn't watch the show from beginning to end, And maybe the Emmy voters did not watch the whole season, that you can't appreciate it as much. I don't think Holt and Anna gave better performances, I think they had easier, more relatable characters to play.

Groff gives excessive praise to everyone he works with, blow hobs for all so to speak. And since he is well known for being good at it, it is his go-to move. His bread and butter move, so to speak. Not surprising he sdid this a lot for Fincher.

What I have said is that Fincher is not a good actor’s director — by which I mean he does not make them shine — for ANY actor. And that I hope the show runs for a solid three seasons. If the story concept seems like it can sustain longer than that and stay interesting I would be open to more.

People were saying it a lot in Groff's threads. Btw, actors often shine in his movies. Many actors had their best, career defining roles in his movies. Yes, they didn't win oscars, or Emmys, or whatever bullshit award you always talk about. But who cares?

I mean, i am not even Fincher's biggest fan. But the level of delusions here regarding this project, it's quality, importance for Jon's career is mindboggling.

Fincher is Jonathan’s stepping stone to Hollywood. Atleast he must hope that. And for that it’s a pretty good opportunity for Jon. His career has been moving steadily up. Either Jon should get a Hollywood break or star in a sitcom like NPH or Tyler. That would be great too from career standpoint

Great interview -he said a lot of things I haven't heard before. I especially liked when he talked about networking and the parties in LA, and his answer to the question, "who are you when you're at your best?", and "have you changed anything to have more positivity in your life?" His answers were all really honest and self-aware, and it dips into the personal regarding relationships/friendships. Definitely a more genuine and long-form conversation, and the most personal interview I've heard. Great job to the interviewer!

groffs answers regarding ‘happiness’ and ‘needy people’ resonates strongly with me. Especially his view on happiness being transient and being able to be detached from it. I have similar views and I am impressed that Groff has reached that stage that early in his life. For a guy who laughs as much as he does, Groff is a very wise, serious and lonely old soul on the inside.

Looking helped to open a lot of doors for me. Richie, when all is said and done, is a romantic lead. There's not a lot of romantic leads out there for Latino actors, and it allowed the industry to sort of see me as an everyman. I did this film last fall called El Chicano, which is playing at the LA Film Festival next month. I'm El Chicano. It's the first Latino superhero film. It's my first time being number one on a call sheet. I texted Jonathan because I thought of him a lot while I was doing it. I just finished the Looking movie. Patrick was such a self-destructive asshole. I hope he's happy with Richie. But I don't think he is capable of being happy with anyone.

In season 2, on DVD, it looked as if Patrick and Kevin wore dark green a lot. Or was it just "digitally remastered" so that everything was teal and orange, like we used to see in movies in the '00s?
