Jameela Jamil Calls Out Emile Hirsch’s Abusive Behavior Following Tarantino Announcement

[quote]This week, it was announced that actor Emile Hirsch was joining the cast of Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film about Charles Manson, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which also includes Al Pacino, Leonardo DiCaprio, Damian Lewis, Dakota Fanning, and others. But on Friday, The Good Place actress Jameela Jamil slammed the move, as Hirsch had been arrested for attacking a woman — one of her friends — at the Sundance Film Festival just three years ago.

[quote]J: Cool. Emile Hirsch strangled my tiny female best friend until she blacked out at a party in front of dozens of witnesses at Sundance Film Festival (and was convicted) but Tarantino just cast him in a movie. INTENSE case of rich white male privilege eh? Cool. Cool. Cool. 🖕🏽

[quote]J: Left her with three years of PTSD and never paid for her treatment, and still hasn’t apologized to her. Not today Satan, not today...

[quote]J: Emile Hirsch has not apologized for this heinous crime, but is re-joining Hollywood’s elite. Slow clap to everyone involved in this movie. So many other actors who haven’t attacked women to choose from...

Is it really so hard to find an actor who didn't attempt to murder someone? Sheesh.

by Anonymousreply 3June 9, 2018 10:20 AM

This is the wrong place to look for condemnation of a cute straight guy who attacked a frau.

by Anonymousreply 4June 9, 2018 10:23 AM

Tarantine is a massive asshole so Hirsch will fit in perfectly.

by Anonymousreply 5June 9, 2018 10:24 AM

She went hard after Kim Kardashian's diet suppressant pills and she's speaking up now. I'm kinda loving how fearless Jameela is.

by Anonymousreply 6June 9, 2018 10:25 AM

A comment on the AV Club. Seems like you're right, r5.

[quote]Back in my undergrad (we’re talking 2004 here), I lived next to a guy who was an extra in The Emperor’s Club (2002). His remembrance of his experience was, “Everyone on set was super cool. Except for Emile Hirsch. Total Asshole.”

by Anonymousreply 7June 9, 2018 10:27 AM

R4 is one of those tiresome idiots who thinks every woman is a frau.

Over 20 years of explaining what "frau" means on DL and some people still don't get it.

by Anonymousreply 8June 9, 2018 10:29 AM

"Is it really so hard to find an actor who didn't attempt to murder someone? Sheesh."

Apparently, the choices for the role were Robert Blake, William Shatner and Hirsch and they felt Hirsch was less--you know--"killy" than the other two guys.

They were also thinking of Bill Cosby but that was in an earlier draft where Cosby was supposed to play a younger version of himself and there was the CGI budget to consider plus this ill advised plot twist involving Robert Culp--that whole thing was nixed.

by Anonymousreply 9June 9, 2018 10:31 AM

plus he is a shitty lil turd of an actor

entitled brat

send him back to Hicksville

by Anonymousreply 10June 9, 2018 10:32 AM

Wait, wasn’t one of Tarantino’s controversies that he seemed to like choking his actresses?

by Anonymousreply 11June 9, 2018 10:43 AM

R8 a little ugg wearing basic bitch? You’re a fucking idiot. I do know what frau is; all your friends I’m sure.

by Anonymousreply 12June 9, 2018 10:44 AM

And wait. You’ve been on the same website for 20yrs? Go outside bitch. As a matter of fact, just sit down, bitch. Sit down.

by Anonymousreply 13June 9, 2018 10:46 AM

indeed, tarantino himself IS the Perv of Pervs......BEWARE

by Anonymousreply 14June 9, 2018 11:14 AM

Good catch, r11 -- he stood in for an actor in a choking scene on Inglorious Basterds and seemed to really enjoy hurting Diane Kruger.

by Anonymousreply 15June 9, 2018 1:11 PM

[quote]send him back to Hicksville

I had to look this up. Emile is from LA, not Long Island.

by Anonymousreply 16June 9, 2018 1:33 PM

Tarantino has shown that he is ok with men raping women and violently assaulting them so this isn’t a surprise.

by Anonymousreply 17June 9, 2018 1:44 PM

Ew.

Won’t be watching this movie.

by Anonymousreply 18June 9, 2018 1:48 PM

Of course she had to make it about white male privilege lol. Black male rappers have made the most misogynistic songs and music videos in the history of music and they were never punished for this behavior. Dr. Dre beat the crap out of a female journalist at a party in the late 80s/early 90s and he wasn't arrested and was able to continue his successful music career. Blacks have rapped about guns, killing whites, killing gays, killing cops, beating and raping women and nobody cared but the entertainment industry has to fall apart because of evil sexist white men.

by Anonymousreply 19June 9, 2018 1:56 PM

r19 We can't let actual abusive behaviour (for which people got convicted) slide because rappers have misogynistic lyrics. Why bother about calling out any abuse then if you'll just trot that excuse out every time? That's not how any of this works. The sooner we make abusive actions in the real world intolerable, the sooner the day of reckoning for those rappers - black and otherwise - and their nasty lyrics will arrive as well.

by Anonymousreply 20June 9, 2018 2:14 PM

Love Jameela.

by Anonymousreply 21June 9, 2018 2:21 PM

I agree r19 but in this case she’s speaking out on behalf of a friend. This isn’t general social justice activism for her. This is something she knows about up close & specifically.

I’m with her on this. Just because she’s speaking up for a friend, doesn’t mean she condones all misogyny.

by Anonymousreply 22June 9, 2018 2:49 PM

Well you have to wonder what the woman did to make Emile so angry.

by Anonymousreply 23June 9, 2018 3:08 PM

What a lazy fucking name. That's some 'Will Williams' shit right there. Okay, Suzanne Susans. Nico Nicknick.

by Anonymousreply 24June 9, 2018 3:15 PM

I wondered what happened to his career, for a while he was everywhere and then... poof! Gone!

I guess the combination of attempted murder and "Speed Racer" was too much.

by Anonymousreply 25June 9, 2018 3:23 PM

He's only about knee high to a grass hopper so her friend must be very tiny. Palm sized.

by Anonymousreply 26June 9, 2018 3:26 PM

What is wrong with social activism? Don’t let foreign trolls shame you for having morals.

by Anonymousreply 27June 9, 2018 3:29 PM

R27? Use your fucking brain before flapping your gums.

Hive minds are so irritating.

by Anonymousreply 28June 9, 2018 3:38 PM

Every weekend there's some troll all over DL going nuclear on people for no reason, and I think r28 may be that troll. I used to think it was some hungover old biddy but who knows.

by Anonymousreply 29June 9, 2018 3:47 PM

R22, it is social justice activism because she made it about white male privilege. Black men have been getting away with abusing women for a long time. It has nothing to do with white privilege and more with wealth/power privilege. Wealthy, powerful people often get away with things that the general public would never get away with. Stop making it about race.

by Anonymousreply 30June 9, 2018 4:18 PM

I agree with you to a large extent, R30, if this vile little man is being given a second chance it's largely because of the privilege that comes with being wealthy, famous, and on the inside. But IMHO race may be a smaller factor as well. IMHO the truest way to measure privilege is to see how much a person can be forgiven for, and straight white men from good backgrounds can be forgiven and welcomed back into the fold no matter what they do. If he were gay or weren't white he'd never get a chance like this, and not only that - other gay or not-white people would lose chances, because he'd have shown that people like that aren't reliable.

Reminding people that he'd committed a serious assault was a good thing, and Jameela is brave for doing it. If the justice system won't prosecute the rich and famous, this is the only way to bring down any consequences for their actions.

by Anonymousreply 31June 9, 2018 4:34 PM

For all the purists out there, it's really simple:

A fucking poor excuse for a human being attacked another human being, while drunk, and makes no apologies. The poor excuse is later hired for a violent, exploiting film being made by another vile human being who gets off on hurting other human beings for 'art' and profit.

Treat people well and avoid being a poor excuse. The end.

by Anonymousreply 32June 9, 2018 4:36 PM

I don't disagree with what she's saying - the only job Hirsch should have is parking Tarantino's car, but she's a nutter and a professional scold

by Anonymousreply 33June 9, 2018 4:38 PM

He was charged in the legal system and paid his debt to society. So the guy should never work again? Please.

by Anonymousreply 34June 9, 2018 4:38 PM

Doubt this ever happened. Where is the police report? The charges? Stop accusing people based on hearsay evidence.

by Anonymousreply 35June 9, 2018 4:39 PM

The marketplace will determine his worth quickly enough. The culture is busted and the only thing that matters is how much money you can make.

Ugh. Tarantino hasn't made a decent film since Sally Menke died, but now I'm even less inclined to see the Manson flick.

by Anonymousreply 39June 9, 2018 6:00 PM

I used to really like Emile. It's been hard for me to let go of what he did. I don't understand these people who forgive their favorite celeb just because they like their acting or singing. I'm not saying no one is forgivable. But what he did was pretty awful.

by Anonymousreply 40June 9, 2018 6:04 PM

Tarantino is doing a Charles Manson movie based on the Tate Murders. Hiring Emile Hirsch will be the least offensive part of this entire project

Seriously

by Anonymousreply 41June 9, 2018 6:12 PM

I don't know why Sharon's sister is supporting this movie or Quentin. Has she never seen one of his films? To say they are exploitative is the understatement of the year. The murder scenes in this movie will be 100% more shocking and gory than the shocking real life events

by Anonymousreply 42June 9, 2018 6:14 PM

HE looks like he could be Dennis Quad's son in R37 's pic :O!

by Anonymousreply 43June 9, 2018 6:16 PM

What role is the douche hired for? He's perfect for Manson. Just the right amount of unpredictable crazy in those eyes.

by Anonymousreply 44June 9, 2018 6:18 PM

How exactly does an attention seeking no mark like Jamil know/ is friends with an executive at Paramount? Bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 45June 9, 2018 6:49 PM

R31, you wrote "if he were gay or weren't white he'd never get a chance like this..."

Then explain Bill Cosby. People knew what he was doing for a very long time and they protected him. Explain rappers like Snoop Dogg who wrote lyrics like "B*itches aint sh*t but hoes and tricks. Lick on these nuts and suck the d*ck." Or how about Nelly's Tip Drill video where he passes a credit card between a woman's butt cheeks? Where's the outrage from the metoo movement on these guys? And they are plentiful in the rap industry. Even Kanye West admitted that rap is mostly misogynistic so why have black rappers been protected all these years if white privilege is the problem? You think poor white people have any privilege? You think little white Timmy living in a trailer park with his grandmother has any kind of privilege? Again, it's wealth and power that controls the world, not race, gender or sexual orientation. Ellen Degeneres has more privilege as a woman and a lesbian than 99% of white heterosexual men out there because she is rich and famous.

by Anonymousreply 46June 9, 2018 8:32 PM

[quote] Emile Hirsch strangled my tiny female best friend

Not that that makes it ok, but tbf, Hirsch is tiny himself.

What is wrong with being foreign? Wow. Just wow. Depressing to see such xenophobia in 2018.

Debra doesn't support Tarantino's film R42. She is supporting a competing film called Tate.

No Tate family member is happy about this.

by Anonymousreply 53June 10, 2018 1:53 AM

R44 Rather insultingly, he’s playing Sharon Tate’s ex Jay Sebring who was killed trying to protect her.

by Anonymousreply 54June 10, 2018 1:56 AM

Jameela Jamil looks like a younger Camilla Henemark from Army of Lovers.

by Anonymousreply 55June 10, 2018 1:57 AM

So the guy physically assaults someone while drunk, accepts responsibility early on and pleads guilty. He gets jail time which is pretty rare for first offenders and he accepts rehab to deal with his alcohol issue. What more should he do? Die? Get a cabin in the woods and become a hermit?

And so people now think he should never work again? WTF? If he were an accountant should he never count again? People are ridiculous.

And who is the woman calling him out for THIS film when she hasn't called out him or the director or cast and crew for the TEN films he's done since the incident 3 years ago. She's loking for attention.

PS This isn't a #metoo event.

by Anonymousreply 56June 10, 2018 3:14 AM

Actors run on public opinion. Fuck him. He's a scumbag. I won't pay to see him in anything. Much less the ugliness of anything Tarantino

by Anonymousreply 57June 10, 2018 3:46 AM

BUT WHAT ABOUT BLACK MEN! OBAMA! BENGHAZI! HILLARY'S EMAILS! F.B.I. LOVEBIRDS! DEFLECT DEFLECT DEFLECT!! EVERYBODY CAN DO ANYTHING WITHOUT CONSEQUENCES BECAUSE I JUST SAID SOMETHING ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE DOING SOMETHING ONCE! DON'T YOU DARE REMEMBER SHIT SOMEBODY PULLED BECAUSE IT THREATENS MY PENIS!!! WON'T SOMEBODY RESPECT MY PENIS!!!!

by Anonymousreply 58June 12, 2018 12:38 AM

I like Jameela.

I don't think she's suggesting he never work again. People saying so are missing the point. He was an asshole and never apologized. Having to serve jail time is one thing, but there's a difference between doing something because you were made to do it, and doing something out of sincere apology and atonement.

He SHOULD be called out for his shitty, harmful behavior. Jameela is calling out the fact that others are just looking the other way instead.

by Anonymousreply 59June 12, 2018 12:42 AM

So, don't Ban the Box?

by Anonymousreply 60June 12, 2018 12:43 AM

Oh, I don't say he should never work again, far from it! He's a pretty good actor, it'd be a shame to let his talent go to waste.

However, if he had to spend a few years flipping burgers and cleaning toilets as a domestic violence shelter as community service before he mounts his comeback, I'm sure he'd be better for it, and so would his work.

by Anonymousreply 61June 12, 2018 3:14 AM

Hirsch seems like a nasty creep. Won't pay to see him in anything.

by Anonymousreply 62June 12, 2018 3:20 AM

What is the end game here? Everyone convicted of something (or every male convicted of something against a female) should never get to work again?

by Anonymousreply 63June 12, 2018 3:37 AM

Emile is straight? Now THAT shocks me.

by Anonymousreply 64June 12, 2018 3:46 AM

[quote] I don't think she's suggesting he never work again. People saying so are missing the point. He was an asshole and never apologized. . . He SHOULD be called out for his shitty, harmful behavior. Jameela is calling out the fact that others are just looking the other way instead.

First of all a defendant is not allowed to contact an alleged victim even through third parties. So no way he could apologize then. He does say he wanted to apologize at sentencing but she didn't come to court. And he may still. have a stay away from her. I would sure be counseling my client to never go near her or contact her again. That is reality. And quite frankly we have no idea if abfter sentencing his attorney didn't relay an apology is immature. He expressed regret and remorse and accepted responsibility almost immediately. Hell he pled guilty within about 3 weeks of the event. He has continued to express remorse in later interviews. Jeez.

He didn't get called out? He fucking got arrested and pled guilty and went to jail. What the fuck are you on about? Some things are just never enough for some people. Jameela is just looking for attention. As I noted above how come she didn't "call out" the directors and crew and cast members on the other TEN films he worked on since? Why has she chosen this film? Gee I wonder why?

by Anonymousreply 65June 12, 2018 3:52 AM

[quote]She went hard after Kim Kardashian's diet suppressant pills and she's speaking up now. I'm kinda loving how fearless Jameela is.

I'm kind of amazed that this project is still happening and that people still want to work with Tarantino - apparently people can't even pretend to have morals even in this climate.

by Anonymousreply 69June 12, 2018 10:15 AM

Wake me up when Hirsch kills himself.

by Anonymousreply 70June 12, 2018 10:26 AM

I used to work with Jameela (JamJam) years ago here in the UK when she hosted T4, which had a lot of young attractive presenters. She was easily the nicest and funniest one of the lot - a couple of them were absolute nightmares with very big egos, but not Jameela. Really happy for her she is doing so well in The Good Place. I was totally shocked to see her in it but she's hilarious. And yeah love her frankness.

by Anonymousreply 71June 12, 2018 10:37 AM

I love Jameela - like R71 she was brilliant to watch whilst hosting T4 (wish I could say the same for Rick Edwards. I think he was only hired because he was tall and goodlooking). I particularly love her "I Weigh" tag on Instagram: it's not about telling everyone how much you weigh, but all of the things that combine to make you the person you are. Also loved her slating Kim Kardashian.

by Anonymousreply 72June 12, 2018 10:42 AM

Margot Robbie is in this movie too.

by Anonymousreply 73June 12, 2018 10:48 AM

[quote] I used to work with Jameela (JamJam) years ago here in the UK when she hosted T4, which had a lot of young attractive presenters.

lmao, R71 has to be Nick Grimshaw. How's tricks, Nicholas?

by Anonymousreply 74June 12, 2018 12:16 PM

I think that it's hard for her to separate herself from the situation because it happened to a friend. Part of me believes that since Emile paid his dues in terms of the court that he should be allowed to live his life normally. But he physically assaulted someone and they're never going to forget that. I'd probably feel the same way as her if someone did that to a friend of mine.

by Anonymousreply 75June 12, 2018 2:13 PM

[Quote] I guess the combination of attempted murder and "Speed Racer" was too much.

Speed Racer on it's own was too much.

[Quote] Debra doesn't support Tarantino's film [R42]. She is supporting a competing film called Tate.

For a second there i thought you were referring to the Hilary Duff movie.

by Anonymousreply 76June 12, 2018 3:44 PM

I like that she calls out white male privilege while it can be argued that her minority status gave her a role on a show as diversity heavy as The Good Place, and not her ability or talent level.

by Anonymousreply 77June 12, 2018 6:31 PM

There was no privilege here. A drunken idiot got his due. Now it's time to move on.

by Anonymousreply 78June 12, 2018 6:34 PM

Except they could have hired another Indian actress and yet they didn't? So even if the role was for an Indian woman she still got it over other people who weren't white. How does talent not play into it? Every role has components to it that make it impossible for every single person to be eligible for it.

by Anonymousreply 79June 12, 2018 6:38 PM

He committed a crime years ago, and was punished for it. It pretty much seems to have been partly responsible for derailing his career for a time.

Let him be. People deserve second chances.

by Anonymousreply 80June 12, 2018 7:02 PM

Remember the story about the PA on Speedracer walking in on Emile blowing Kip Something?

by Anonymousreply 81June 12, 2018 7:12 PM

He has paid his debt to society after due to his conviction, so let him earn a living. I honestly don't see the problem unless he has gone on to continue assaulting people. I don't know the full story but

It's no different to testicle-smasher Jon Hamm continuing to work now after his incidences of violent hazing. I am sure the guy is a nasty piece of shit, but provided he has behaved himself since, it's done. Or committer of violent assaults on Asians, Mark Wahlburg.

Unless Hamm's sex appeal is blinding people calling out Hirsch, but I'm suuurrrrrre that's no the case.

by Anonymousreply 82June 12, 2018 7:17 PM

As long as nasty homophobic POCs work like Tracy Morgan and Denzel, I'll watch an Emile movie

by Anonymousreply 83June 12, 2018 7:20 PM

They don't get much better looking than Emile Hirsch, especially in "Into the Wild". And he was an important part of "Milk" too. Fuck this vindictive "don't let him work" shit.

by Anonymousreply 84June 12, 2018 7:20 PM

The thing with Jon is something I haven't even heard of until a few weeks ago. I think it's disgusting and I'm surprised by the amount of people who are still willing to work with him. In regards to Emile, it's not like Tarantino is a stand up person. So for him, it's not surprising he'd be working with a guy like Emile.

by Anonymousreply 85June 12, 2018 8:28 PM

Tarantino's best friend is Harvey Weinstein. Quentin doesn't mind strangling women and spitting in their faces. I also heard he devised the plan for the steering wheel to jostle free and Uma to crash because he wanted to create a "Brandon Lee" incident for his mystique and reputation and that the intentions were for Uma Thurman to NOT survive that crash.

He's not exactly the moral majority.

Christian Slater still was able to work with his long and rich record of violence. So if Slater was able to get jobs why can't Hirsch?

by Anonymousreply 89June 13, 2018 12:21 AM

No, R88, don't oversimplify. He did wrong, he paid for it, let him move on... but this Battles of the Sexes "Make 'em Pay" crap is getting downright bizarre. And, yeah, I'm a fan -- of his looks and his work.

by Anonymousreply 90June 13, 2018 4:23 AM

I've already said it above but the reason why Jameela is so invested is because it happens to her friend. She's claiming that it's white privilege and maybe it is, but at the root of it she's upset because he did it to her friend. That's why she's not going after all the other men (and there's a lot of them) who have assaulted women.

by Anonymousreply 91June 13, 2018 4:56 AM

That’s just it, R91, if it happened to her friend, let that be that. But fanning the flames of racial tensions in this country in order to sound trendy and PC is irrelevant and frankly dangerous.

Turn white men into a persecuted class and it does not end well. And will probably end the stream of Affirmative Action roles being thrown her way.

by Anonymousreply 92June 13, 2018 5:36 AM
