Tarantino's new film to be about Manson Family murders

Will this one leak?

by Anonymousreply 365December 6, 2019 9:47 PM

It'll leak more than Sharon's body did after the 32 stabbings!

by Anonymousreply 1July 12, 2017 12:04 AM

[quote]Sources say that Tarantino is putting the finishing touches on the script and that Brad Pitt, who worked with the filmmaker on Basterds, and Jennifer Lawrence have been approached.

No.

Sleazy, very sleazy.

by Anonymousreply 4July 12, 2017 12:07 AM

It should be interesting. R1 you're disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 5July 12, 2017 12:17 AM

His movies are so violent and the Manson Family murders sound right up his dark alley.

by Anonymousreply 6July 12, 2017 12:32 AM

Tarantino is a master at monetizing the corn he picks from history's steamiest, most fetid turd hills. He's a scat impresario. Bravo (in advance) maestro!

by Anonymousreply 7July 12, 2017 12:38 AM

His face is so smooth.

by Anonymousreply 8July 12, 2017 12:53 AM

QT looks so odd. What happened?

by Anonymousreply 9July 12, 2017 12:58 AM

Hack. One-hit wonder. Uses violence/gore and tasteless language to distract attention away from the absence of originality and talent.

Brilliant. Not every con man fools the world

by Anonymousreply 10July 12, 2017 1:07 AM

Tarantino is a cultural Fukushima. He should be buried in concrete.

by Anonymousreply 11July 12, 2017 1:18 AM

I will watch any film he makes because like it or not they are far more interesting than what most of Hollywood is churning out. If you don't like his ultra violent stuff check out Jackie Brown, which may be his best film.

by Anonymousreply 12July 12, 2017 1:19 AM

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lawrence? Pitt will probably play Manson and I suppose Lawrence will play Sharon. I'm NOT kidding. Tarantino would think it would be perfect casting.

by Anonymousreply 13July 12, 2017 1:26 AM

Its been done already. SSteve Railsback terrified me as a child from that mini series.

by Anonymousreply 14July 12, 2017 1:54 AM

His nose will meet his chin by time the film is released.

by Anonymousreply 15July 12, 2017 1:56 AM

I have heard that he has met with Margot Robbie about playing Sharon. I think that would be brilliant casting! Jennifer lawrence needs to relegated to doing guest spots on Two Broke Girls and reality shows. She's an awful human being.

by Anonymousreply 16July 12, 2017 2:39 AM

[quote] Tarantino is a master at monetizing the corn he picks from history's steamiest, most fetid turd hills.

Then hopefully Carol Channing will do a cameo appearance.

by Anonymousreply 17July 12, 2017 2:43 AM

[quote]I have heard that he has met with Margot Robbie about playing Sharon. I think that would be brilliant casting!

He told her he'd have to suck her toes to make sure she was right for the role.

I've heard that QT's treatment starts with Polanski finding out about the murders. He then tracks down the family members, one by one, and has a confrontation with each before killing them, each in a different gruesome way. Apparently it's going to be a two part movie.

by Anonymousreply 18July 12, 2017 3:00 AM

[quote]Saw him at Sardi's a few weeks ago. He's the size of a house!

Tall or fat?

by Anonymousreply 19July 12, 2017 3:01 AM

So what 1960s era gimmick will he revive this time around?

by Anonymousreply 20July 12, 2017 3:01 AM

Tarantino is amoral, sometimes I think he is yr garden variety Sociopath just disguised behind a camera lense. This was a horrible, tragic event that has never been covered up in the media - there is no redeeming value for this asshole to exploit this situation except to be "the guy that does it." He fetishizes this stuff and will award Manson a fame he doesnt deserve. I wish they had gassed him.

by Anonymousreply 21July 12, 2017 3:02 AM

[quote]He's the size of a house!

When you say that do you mean more like the Taj Mahal or more like the Brady Bunch's house?

by Anonymousreply 22July 12, 2017 3:02 AM

John Waters made a career out of it.

by Anonymousreply 24July 12, 2017 3:09 AM

Bravo. Love his work and this will be another winner.

by Anonymousreply 25July 12, 2017 4:29 AM

I didn't mind the violence of his previous movies because the stories were manufactured. Somehow, though, it seems inappropriate for him to milk this tragedy for a movie. Let the victims rest in peace. We should not glorify the criminals in this case in any way.

by Anonymousreply 26July 12, 2017 4:37 AM

Maybe Paul Dano could play Roman Polanski.

by Anonymousreply 27July 12, 2017 4:51 AM

So who should play Manson? Pitt is decades too old, the correct actor would be around 39, short, dark, extremely charismatic, and able to project sleaze, intelligence, and crazy. Pitt can't do a damn thing on that list.

And the "Family" kids should all be heartbreakingly young.

by Anonymousreply 28July 12, 2017 5:13 AM

R21 what is the tragic event?

by Anonymousreply 29July 12, 2017 5:29 AM

No man in his mid-50s who spent his entire life under the California sun should have a forehead as smooth as a dinner plate.

He looks ridiculous all Botoxed out.

by Anonymousreply 30July 12, 2017 5:49 AM

Robbie looks too hard-faced to play Sharon Tate. And casting Lawrence as Tate should be out of the question. I say look for an unknown actress.

by Anonymousreply 31July 12, 2017 6:00 AM

"Any actor involvement is on the early side, and one insider said that Lawrence is not considering the Tate role."

It's MUCH more likely Lawrence would play one of the Manson girls than Sharon Tate (whom she looks nothing like).

Knowing Tarantino's MO, it's much more likely this will be from the Manson family's perspective than from that of Sharon or her guests. I would assume the key female role would be someone like Linda Kasabian or even Susan Atkins rather than Sharon Tate.

by Anonymousreply 38July 12, 2017 6:21 AM

r12 Yes, Jackie Brown is fucking perfect! r21 No, that's Werner Herzog, total death hag that can hide it by being a "documentarian".

by Anonymousreply 40July 12, 2017 6:38 AM

I'm thrilled to see another couple of "Jackie Brown" fans here. It is my favorite film of the past 30 years.

Nothing, from the casting to the score, could be improved upon. I became a late in life Pam Grier freak because of it.

by Anonymousreply 41July 12, 2017 7:05 AM

r41 Me too! "You didn't exactly set the world on fire, did you, Jackie?" said by the guy who played Tommy in "Valley Girl" so awesome. Robert Forster was hot too and the Delfonics...perfection.

by Anonymousreply 42July 12, 2017 7:20 AM

I've always thought a Manson family crime film done in the style of David Fincher's "Zodiac" could be very good and complely warranted because of how many and how complex their crimes actually were (the LAPD even recently said that they think the Manson family might have been responsible for many more murders/unsolved crimes than is currently known by the public).

I think Tarantino is the absolute wrong director for this material though.

His "exploitation" style and celebratory view of violence and killers really runs the risk of simplifying these crimes and glorifying the Manson family and their murders.

It would be serial killers as rock stars (with the murders super stylized and glamorized), the poor victims completely lost in the mix, and it would send a horrible message to anyone viewing the film.

A sober, intense look at the Manson family, their crimes, and their victims could make a very good and important film (like "Zodiac"), but Tarantino would make the mistake of making Manson and his "family" celebrities (in the worst way) to a new generation and he would have an inability to portray the genuine horror, sociopathy, and disgusting violence that Manson and his followers embodied and which they wrought upon Southern California during their reign of terror.

(Oh, and Brad Pitt needs to absolutely not be in this movie).

by Anonymousreply 43July 12, 2017 8:38 AM

He's our best director. Why must he always make violent films?

by Anonymousreply 44July 12, 2017 8:50 AM

I'm sure all the racist misogynist reddit-bros will love this film that glorifies these brutal and ritualistic murderers. The world sooo needs this story told from their perspective right now.

by Anonymousreply 45July 12, 2017 12:41 PM

I can see Joaquin Phoenix as Manson, despite the age factor.

If this film gets made, I hope the real Manson is dead before its released.

by Anonymousreply 46July 12, 2017 1:07 PM

The Mansons should have been executed in 1971. All of them. The state of California owes the victims' families reparations for keeping those racist cracker sons of bitches alive as long as they have.

by Anonymousreply 47July 12, 2017 1:13 PM

[quote] I'm sure all the racist misogynist reddit-bros will love this film that glorifies these brutal and ritualistic murderers.

"QT looks so odd. What happened?"

Where have YOU been? He's always looked odd, what with that squashed in face of his. Butt ugly.

The appeal of Quentin Tarantino has always escaped me. I've seen one movie of his, and that was enough. It was "Pulp Fiction;" after watching it I thought "so THIS is supposed to be a movie of unparalleled brilliance? THIS?" Once was enough and I've never watched another movie of his since.

On talk shows he seems like a nut job. What a gross creep he is. And he wanted to make a movie about the Manson family. Well, one thing can be counted on; if it gets made it will contain lots of sex and rivers of gore.

by Anonymousreply 53July 12, 2017 3:33 PM

by Anonymousreply 59July 12, 2017 4:12 PM

The right people to film the Manson Family story are the "American Crime Story" team, not Tarantino. They'd take the time to show the absolute insanity of life within the "family", and the hunt for them, and the impact it had on life in LA.

Tarantino's sleaziness and pop culture fixations are painfully wrong for this, I hope to fuck the project fall through and Ryan Murphy goes for it once he finishes with Cunanan.

by Anonymousreply 63July 12, 2017 5:46 PM

They need to fry the entire Manson family right fucking now and stop glorifying these racist cracker breeder goy pieces of shit. They'll never be rehabilitated, and letting them live has allowed the white race to sabotage all attempts at improving race relations. Seriously, listen to this man talk one of these days. He is a white supremacist projecting his hatred of blacks onto whites. Frying him in 1971 would have made the last 46 years play out a lot different and better.

by Anonymousreply 64July 12, 2017 5:49 PM

R64 Charles Manson and his followers killed all white people but they actually hate blacks and are white supremacists??!! Sweetheart, if you're not on drugs you should be.

[quote][R64] Charles Manson and his followers killed all white people but they actually hate blacks and are white supremacists??!! Sweetheart, if you're not on drugs you should be.

There's a documentary from 1973. He says basically that he wants to start a race war that blacks will win, but that their (perceived) inability to run will make it a pyrrhic victory, and so he and his "family" would crawl from its wreckage and re-establish white rule. That, of course, is unlikely to happen, but that hasn't stopped other white supremacists from believing it. Nothing they believe is true anyway. They really are the worst race.

by Anonymousreply 66July 12, 2017 7:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 68July 12, 2017 11:56 PM

I was alive when this happened. I remember it as a time I began to learn the horrors of life. Things never seem the same after the "unthinkable " happens (like 9/11)

Other elders know that 1971 was NOT the cesspool of violence we have now. We were shocked back then, but now people are not so shocked to learn about it.

Agree that Tarantino just wants to churn out a movie replete with violence and pretend it is art.

[QUOTE] And since the real Tate couldn't act either

She had shown a knack for comedy but since the poor girl was all of 26 when murdered we'll never know if she might have gotten better. Many actors whose early work was laughed at became considerably better, award winning even: Ann-Margret for example didn't get critical praise until she was in CARNAL KNOWLEDGE at age 30. Brooke Shields, Raquel Welch are some others that come to mind.

by Anonymousreply 88July 13, 2017 10:39 PM

Murder is the 4th column r88 -- is that your question.

The rape numbers are likely doe to more reporting and convictions than in the past when reporting was much more rare

by Anonymousreply 89July 13, 2017 10:44 PM

No, I wanted raw numbers. I found some 1969, year of the Manson Muders. Murders: 14,760 ; Aggravated assault: t311,090

2015: Murders: t15,696; Aggravated assault: t764,449

It definitely went up in the 70s -90s. Probably due to drugs, availability of weapons. Then down again - bigger prisons?

by Anonymousreply 103July 14, 2017 7:41 PM

Yes, they should go with unknowns for Sharon Tate & Polanski. But Tarantino means fun (known) actor casting, murder laughs, soundtrack.

There was something about the Mansons that was on TV about six years ago on TLC or one of those channels that was actually pretty good. I think the people were unknowns.

Sources say that Tarantino is putting the finishing touches on the script and that Brad Pitt, who worked with the filmmaker on Basterds, and Jennifer Lawrence have been approached. Studios could receive the package after Labor Day, according to one source. The plan is to shoot in 2018, possibly in the summer.

Who would Brad Pitt play? A cop? A fictional character?

[quote] [Crime] definitely went up in the 70s -90s. Probably due to drugs, availability of weapons. Then down again - bigger prisons?

Actually, the real reason crime went down in the 90's is due to Roe v. Wade. Fewer unwanted babies = fewer future criminals.

I doubt the Sharon Tate role in this would go to a famous actress. Her involvement with the family was only a few minutes. Wouldn't the movie focus on how the family came together and the fear it put the county thru. Plus the trial

by Anonymousreply 126July 15, 2017 10:49 PM

I can't imagine any A-list or even B-list actress wanting to play the Manson girls, especially Atkins or Krenwinkle. The mere association could just be too distasteful and damaging. Kasabian I could see as she didn't actually participate in any murders and perhaps even Van Holten because she "seems" the least vicious of the bunch despite her involvement. And she was recommend for parole so there's an arc there for actresses who give a shit about their craft.

by Anonymousreply 127July 15, 2017 11:48 PM

I agree, any A or B list male actor that plays CM will toast his career. This was simply a brutal attack, and that it was racially based just makes it all the worse. There will not be single A or B list female volunteering for the same reason. Anyone old enough to play the roles will have judgment and ability to understand how profoundly disturbing the entire period was for this. We get the notion of brainwashed cults that murder - ISIL. American is very no cool with that idea at all - and Manson was a cult.

GOD FORBID this film creates another situation - our culture is too rife with gun nuts, our country has been terrorized once in the last 16 years - gratuitous brutality is no longer attractive. Not with Republicans that cant bat an eye at a school in which 20 5 year olds are murdered in cold blood and no one gives a shit. Our lives are so daily at risk from random gun violence - why add this brutality to the mix? Cults no, Gun nuts are approved by the GOP.

The description for "Untitled Tarantino Project" now reads: "A TV actor and his stunt double embark on an odyssey to make a name for themselves in the film industry during the Charles Manson murders in 1969 Los Angeles."

Which sounds a bit like Spike Lee's "Summer of Sam", and not a straightforward telling of the story of the Manson Family. Which is fine by me, I don't trust Tarantino to be historically accurate enough to be trusted with the inside story of real people going collectively insane.

by Anonymousreply 130January 12, 2018 10:05 PM

I don’t want to see the typical ultra violent Tarentino version of Sharon Tate’s murder. I thought he was going to do a r rated Star Trek.

by Anonymousreply 131January 12, 2018 10:10 PM

He loves the Manson family. He'll probably have Lens Durham play Sharon Tate.

by Anonymousreply 132January 12, 2018 10:17 PM

Yes, he's doing the Star Trek movie as well but that's still in its early stages. The Revenant writer was hired to do a script just last month.

by Anonymousreply 133January 12, 2018 10:20 PM

So Leo is going to play a 40 something man hanging around with teenage girls. Appropriate.

Tarantino is repulsive. I hate to think how grotesque this movie would be.

by Anonymousreply 134January 12, 2018 10:22 PM

I think those people should not be glorified with a movie. Disgusting.

However, what is this thing with calling the Manson family racist ? I certainly don't want to say anything that is a defence about those evil murderers, but how are they supposed tombe racists ? I really thought this was not the reason they were notorious. Is there something I don't know about ?

And what is this calling Tarantino a racist as well ? I'm not a fan and think he has many issues, but didn't he get in trouble in 2015 when he called out policemen about violence against Black people ?

by Anonymousreply 135January 13, 2018 12:13 AM

Do you not realize that the Manson ā€familyā€ committed the murders in order to trigger race warfare? They tried in their incompetent way to commit crimes that would look like black crimes against white people.

by Anonymousreply 136January 13, 2018 12:40 AM

Manson told his followers that if they made it look like black people were murdering whites, it would spark a race war which would destroy society, and his plan was to take them all to go hide in the desert until it was all over. Because once the black people won and wiped out the whites they wouldn't be able to govern themselves, according to Manson, so he told his followers that once the race war was over they would re-emerge from the desert and become the new leaders of the world.

Manson's followers were very young, very stupid, and very stoned, because they never questioned that bullshit story. And some of them were probably very, very racist.

by Anonymousreply 137January 13, 2018 1:24 AM

Now the question is who gets cast as the other lead male. I reckon Pitt. Hopefully not Cruise.

by Anonymousreply 138January 13, 2018 2:11 AM

If the film is really about a couple of wannabes in 1969, they'd have to cast a hell of a lot younger than Pitt and Cruise!

They're in their fifties, and 1969 was the era of the "generation gap" and "Never trust anyone over 30".

by Anonymousreply 139January 13, 2018 3:10 AM

I think Tarrentino is our best director but he always does violent movies. I wish he would do a woman’s movie like William Wyler. Even Sam Peckinpah did different things.

by Anonymousreply 140January 13, 2018 4:30 AM

Another Tarentino pointless POS to look forward to.

by Anonymousreply 141January 13, 2018 5:02 AM

I'm happy to see that I'm not the only person who hates Tarantino. Every extremely stupid person I've ever met loves QT. It's like liking the Twilight books. Shallow idiocy for shallow idiots.

Having said, I LOVE Sam Jackson's monologue from the back seat of the cab as he and JT are cleaning it.

by Anonymousreply 142January 13, 2018 5:15 AM

Ya better pack the theaters, ya little piggies! I'm not fooling . . .

by Anonymousreply 144January 13, 2018 7:11 AM

"Tarantino fans and Twilight fans are two very different fans."

But they're both crazy. They do have that in common.

by Anonymousreply 145January 16, 2018 4:08 PM

This movie is bad juju. No one wants to see this.

How does so much money get greenlighted to make such trashy, violent films.

We are learning so much, daily, about how lurid Hollywood is, that this movie just seems like such a failure already.

by Anonymousreply 146January 16, 2018 4:16 PM

We don't know about this script.

I'm torn on this. One, i think he won't show anything but maybe the bodies. The other, thinking about the unbelievable amount of murder and violence in his movies, where many people die in all of them, makes me think he's gonna show the murders in some capacity. Which is both terrible and somewhat interesting, though more of the former.

I don't see Leo signing up to play in a movie that shows this kind of event in full flow. I think it will be like Summer of Sam, where there were no actual things shown but used as a backdrop.

By all reports they say this has mainstream appeal like Pulp Fiction. I'm very curious about the plot.

by Anonymousreply 147January 19, 2018 8:46 PM

I guess Pitt and DiCaprio will play cops or detectives - what else could they play?

by Anonymousreply 148January 19, 2018 9:08 PM

SO what do we think now that Uma's interview and jarring video footage has come out? Will Sony back out of this?

Does Leo still do this or does he back out like he did with Steve Jobs? Leo's brand can't afford to be in this now, can it? And it seems for Tarantino the firestorm is only beginning.

Same for Margot Robbie I would imagine.

by Anonymousreply 149February 4, 2018 10:45 PM

by Anonymousreply 150February 4, 2018 10:48 PM

by Anonymousreply 151February 4, 2018 10:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 152February 4, 2018 11:03 PM

Didn't he announce he was retiring or something a while back? I guess the sordid Manson saga revived his creative juices.

It's been done several times already. I might check it out to see if he has some other 'take' on it.

by Anonymousreply 153February 4, 2018 11:10 PM

Honestly curious... is there such a thing as an attractive person with a foot fetish, or do they all look like Quentin and Dan Schneider (Nickelodeon's own Harvey Weinstein)?

I've also known two (straight) guys in college who openly admitted to having foot fetishes, and both looked about how you'd imagine them to (one was a dead ringer for Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons).

by Anonymousreply 154February 5, 2018 12:13 AM

I bet the Manson movie's gonna be shelved. This is gonna get worse for Tarantino.

by Anonymousreply 155February 5, 2018 12:46 AM

I don't think it gets shelved but he'll have a very hard time keeping the current a-list cast because there's no way put a positive spin on almost killing Uma and inserting himself into scenes so he could spit on her and choke her. I suspect he's got a lot of skeletons in his closet because of his twisted fetishes.

by Anonymousreply 156February 5, 2018 1:28 AM

In a word, he's fucked. Amber Tamblyn isn't going to be able to save his ass this time.

by Anonymousreply 157February 5, 2018 1:34 AM

[quote]he'll have a very hard time keeping the current a-list cast

That's actually not a bad thing. His movies were so much better when he was casting cool faded stars like Pam Grier, David Carradine, Daryl Hannah, Robert Forster, et al. Now he just wants assholes like DiCaprio and Tom Cruise in his movies.

by Anonymousreply 158February 5, 2018 4:14 AM

I read somewhere that Roman Polanski will be the main character of this film. I imagine it'll be him sitting at the crime scene or watching news reports having a violent revenge fantasy for the whole movie. "Roman Polanski: Murderer Hunter"

by Anonymousreply 172February 7, 2018 10:26 PM

Remember the footage of Roman going round the house with Sharon's blood still on the walls and door? That stuck with me. I always found it weird that he could do that

by Anonymousreply 173February 7, 2018 10:30 PM

R173 According to Wikipedia:

Life magazine devoted a lengthy article to the murders and featured photographs of the crime scenes. Polanski was interviewed for the article and allowed himself to be photographed at the entrance of the house, next to the front door with the word "PIG"—written in Tate's blood—still visible. Widely criticized for his actions, he argued that he wanted to know who was responsible and was willing to shock the magazine's readers in the hope that someone would come forward with information.

R174 Thanks. We all handle tragedy in our own way but I still find it fucked up. But it's Polanksi and he is fucked up. I'm haunting the Tarantino news & this project because 1) I've always loved Sharon and 2) The big names that are attached to the Tarantino project: Leo Dicaprio, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt. Especially with Quentin's mess being dug up and laid out atm, would they risk it, still proceed and give out a half-assed response in defending him? I know Margot Robbie is gonna play Sharon (Debra now goes against her choice of Margot) but she's not that good or big of an actress so I don't care about her. But Leo and Brad??

by Anonymousreply 177February 7, 2018 10:53 PM

that old bitch Hayley duff is playing Sharon in some B movie.

man she is pitiful....

by Anonymousreply 178February 7, 2018 11:05 PM

R178 Her sis Hilary is. Debra made a statement about it. "Tacky, tacky, tacky." Is what she said, above exploitive etc. Must be hard on her to be having 2 movies come out about her sister that depict her horrific death in the same year - Tarantino saying he wants his to come out on Sharon's bday btw!

by Anonymousreply 179February 7, 2018 11:09 PM

I hope the Tarantino Manson fetish film is cancelled by Sony. I know I won't go. Tarantino's lost a lot of his audience.

by Anonymousreply 180February 7, 2018 11:20 PM

I'd go to a movie about the Mansons, but not one by Tarantino. The guy's shtick was annoying then and it's played out now.

by Anonymousreply 181February 8, 2018 12:02 AM

I read Bugliosi's Helter Skelter book years ago. The police did investigate Polanski - seemed odd his wife gets murdered while he's out of the country. They did find out Polanski was screwing around with anybody he could find and the marriage was on the rocks. Sebring was Tate's ex-boyfriend and it was considered relevant that he was there and murdered too.

Bugliosi told a story about Polanski being such a notorious skirt-chaser he was driving along Rodeo Drive and spotted what looked like a gorgeous woman with her back to him. He catcalled her. When she turned around, it was his wife. He told the story to friends, thought it was funny he tried to pick up his own wife.

by Anonymousreply 182February 8, 2018 12:11 AM

All the stuff coming out and destroying Tarantino's career is karma for announcing that he would release his movie on the 50th anniversary of Sharon Tate’s murder

by Anonymousreply 183February 8, 2018 12:20 AM

I'd personally rather see Rob Zombie do a Manson movie than Tarantino. I know many people hate his movies, but I think he is the only person there is to make yet another movie about this story. It would be graphic and brutal for sure, but very realistic so you would feel like you were actually there. Not over the top and comical like Tarantino's style. It would be darker and more authentic.

He references the case in almost every album and movie of his so he's clearly fascinated by it. He'd stick to the facts. I also know he'd do the late '60s/early '70s style very well.

by Anonymousreply 184February 8, 2018 2:37 AM

Zombie had some potential with Devil’s Rejects then he turned Halloween into a white trash price of shit.

by Anonymousreply 185February 8, 2018 5:28 AM

R184 I agree. I've liked all of Rob's movies apart from the Halloweens. I think if he did the Manson movie 10-20 years ago, he would have his wife Sheri play Sharon. Sheri was a looker.

So, skeevy Tarantino wants to make a most likely hyper violent film about a hyper violent murder spree that focussed centrally on the appalling destruction of a young, pregnant woman, carried out by members of a cult of personality that surrounded an inexplicably charismatic psychopath with issues of inadequacy and was, they hoped, to be the spark that would start a race war.

He wants to do this after Weinstein and #metoo and at a time when tensions between black and white run high and mass killings have become a part of American life.

Who said Hollywood can’t change ?

But he shouldn't do this movie IMO.

by Anonymousreply 206February 22, 2018 9:44 AM

Because that's Quentin's deal with the devil: violence, gore, all his themes that you mention ... are all vehemently anti-GOD and RELIGION.

In Pulp Fiction you have several moments where the bible and God are being discussed literally as someone's head is blown off in the car or the apartment when Sam and Travolta go in there. That's totally blasphemous. And that's why he does it.

And those at the top of the entertainment industry, whether it be QT or Lady Gaga or Woody Allen (the most famous Atheist of all time who denounced God in every one of his movies), are there because they agreed to destroy the lord's word.

Hi there R201 & 202, R200 here. R201; with respect that article doesn’t say a great deal about the film. So, a moot point maybe now whichever way either of us leans.

Slice of life Tarantino style will most likely not be slice of life Spike Lee style. I mean, we can agree to disagree on that and if or when I am proved wrong you can always pull out some more little emojis 202. Undoubtedly, by then, I’ll be so ashamed of my foolishness I’ll never post on here again.

However, I’ll still think he is a talent that fell in love with his own myth, he’s skeevy, now overrated and, bizarrely, brings out the fanboy in people often old enough to know better.

by Anonymousreply 210February 27, 2018 9:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 211February 27, 2018 10:23 PM

R211 I agree but Hollywood is creatively bankrupt so we get endless remakes/reboots/reimaginings, superhero movies (starring superheroes created over 75 years ago), and, as you noted, endless dramatizations of famous crimes.

by Anonymousreply 212February 27, 2018 10:41 PM

Blah Blah Blah ... we already know what this movie will be about: characters who talk too much and have long tumbling minute after minute of show-off dialogue, five stories going back and forth at one time with all characters intertwined, non-linear structural orgasm, and a shitload of violence.

That, and many old films will have been raped and pillaged so Quentin can do his collage technique and say copying is flattery and include them in this.

by Anonymousreply 213February 28, 2018 3:18 AM

so shallow and weak of him to glom onto the notorious and much done Manson/Tate thing...not very original. go for the jugular and obvious violent stuff, sure to stir up the folks who watch Entertaiment Tonight. Ugh.

[quote]A sizzle reel at the onset showed an artistic portrayal of his canon. Footage from Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds, with the final shot being a representation of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood starring Brad Pitt and DiCaprio. Robbie’s name was not listed, because she isn’t yet locked even though Deadline has reported that Tarantino met her personally to play the role of Sharon Tate.

[quote]Tarantino called the pairing of Pitt and DiCaprio akin to Robert Redford and Paul Newman. Acknowledging that ā€œit’s hard to talk about a movie you haven’t made yet,ā€ Tarantino said he was very excited to work with Tarantino after Django Unchained.

Pulp Fiction was good so this is encouraging, right?

by Anonymousreply 232May 11, 2018 10:46 PM

so everybody's on board with this movie, stars are attached and we're supposed to completely forget the Uma Thurman interview and all that mess?? How does this work exactly?

by Anonymousreply 233May 11, 2018 11:02 PM

Judd Apatow must be hysterical the fucking dunce. He was calling for Tarantino to LOSE funding for this movie and railed against Quentin when Uma released her interview that morning. What a fool he is.

Lose funding? Pitt, Leo, Margot Robie the hottest actress in the game at the moment, now his usual array of luminaries ... PLUS Uma said she'd work with QT again if there was a good role (PS Quentin, write me into the piece!) .... HAHAHA.

Tarantino = Movie GOD.

by Anonymousreply 234May 11, 2018 11:11 PM

Judd Apatow is annoying as fuck and I don't think he has a squeaky clean reputation as a director. I bet dirt will come out on Apatow later on and he given work to creeps like James Franco for years.

by Anonymousreply 239May 14, 2018 11:41 AM

It’s very funny that Apatow put the boot in, in an attempt to virtue signal, and Tarantino did not go down.

Uma came to Quentin’s defense — I guess she wants us to see her big feet one last time ....

He's boring. His movies are ass numbing.

by Anonymousreply 243May 14, 2018 12:23 PM

The murders aren't supposed to be the focus of the film. It's about some aging TV characters in the business and Sharon Tate is a neighbor with other characters from that narrative. I assume it's about that era and lots of characters from different subcultures interacted. If he does it right it could be great. I never thought a movie about the porn industry and its denizens could have turned into the great and moving story it was. Tarantino has better material with this to work some magic with, though his style is certainly different.

by Anonymousreply 244May 14, 2018 12:41 PM

Meant to add that Uma's story is not some #metoo story. It was about a director thinking he knew better than his safety people. And under normal circumstances he might have been right and nothing would have happened. But it did. Uma considers them friends and it didn't seem to be about him trying to take advantage of her or hurt her. Which is why she never made a big deal of it.,

by Anonymousreply 245May 14, 2018 12:46 PM

i'm pretty sure we won't even see the actual murders. At least i hope so. That would be too horrible even for a Tarantino movie. Maybe he could go full fantasyland, and show Sharon and the other victims overpowering those Manson cunts. You know, a la Inglorious ending!

by Anonymousreply 246May 14, 2018 12:49 PM

I don't suspect Quentin would short-change us on violence in any movie. He said a few years ago he wanted to make the most violent movie of all time.

He's got the ingredients here if he wants to show it.

by Anonymousreply 247May 25, 2018 6:59 PM

R248 which would be in terrible taste as these were real people who died horribly - but never accuse Tarantino of having any class, he's white trash

by Anonymousreply 248May 25, 2018 7:01 PM

It actually wasn't all that violent, I mean, as opposed to some truly ghastly murders. It was mostly stabbing to death. It's more sad and depressing than anything else, like Sharon Tate begging for her life.

I mean, yes, of course, stabbing is violent, but it's not like the sort of eyes being gouged out stuff that we actually see in some horror movies.

by Anonymousreply 249May 25, 2018 7:07 PM

r249 it wasn't all that violent?

"Tex Watson began to tie Sharon Tate and Jay Sebring together by their necks with rope he had brought and slung up over one of the living room's ceiling beams. Sebring's protest of rough treatment of the pregnant Tate prompted Watson to shoot him. After that, Watson stabbed the groaning Sebring seven times. Wojciech Frykowski's hands had been bound with a towel. Freeing himself, Frykowski began struggling with Susan Atkins, who stabbed at his legs with the knife with which she had been guarding him. As he fought his way toward and out the front door, onto the porch, Watson caught up with Frykowski and struck him over the head with the gun multiple times, stabbed him repeatedly, and shot him twice. Inside the house, Abigail Folger had escaped from Patricia Krenwinkel and fled out a bedroom door to the pool area. Folger was pursued to the front lawn by Krenwinkel, who caught her, stabbed her, and finally tackled her to the ground. She was then dispatched by Watson, and they stabbed Folger 28 times. As Frykowski struggled across the lawn, Watson murdered him with a final flurry of stabbings. Frykowski was stabbed a total of 51 times. In the house, Tate pleaded to be allowed to live long enough to have her baby, and even offered herself as a hostage in an attempt to save the life of her unborn child. At this point either Atkins, Watson, or both killed Tate, who was stabbed 16 times. Watson later wrote that as she was being killed, Tate cried: "Mother ... mother ..." Using the towel that had bound Frykowski's hands, Atkins wrote "pig" on the house's front door in Tate's blood."

Yeah so not violent though... Abigail and Frykowski fought back hard too. Both Tex and Krenwinkel had trouble with them. Abigail was actually overpowering Patrica Krenwinkle, who had a knife, so pussy ass bitch Krenwinkle had to call Tex over to help her get Abigail. Abigail actually had to tell them to stop stabbing her because she "was already dead". Jay couldn't fight back because he was shot twice almost immediately and Sharon was of course heavily pregnant.

[quote]As befits a Tarantino pic, the casting intrigues: Lewis will play the iconic actor Steve McQueen; Fanning is set as Squeaky Fromme, the Manson disciple who later tried to assassinate President Gerald Ford; Hammond will play director Sam Wanamaker; and Hirsch is Jay Sebring, the Hollywood hairstylist who was one of four victims in the Tate murders on Cielo Drive.

Manson was racist. Everyone in his 'family' was white. His Helter Skelter plan was allegedly to begin a race war. He wanted the murders to look as though blacks had committed them. Manson theorized that the family would hide in the desert while blacks slaughtered all of the white people til they were gone. Then, according to Manson since blacks were too stupid to run anything well, the family would reemerge from the desert and grateful ignorant blacks would have the family to run the world.

Sharon Tate's maid, Winifred Chapman was light-skinned. Since manson wanted to start a race war and make the murders look as if they had been committed by blacks, I wonder what would have happened had Chapman been in the house when the killers came. L.A. was under a strong heat wave when the murders occurred during the very early hours (around 12:30am) of August 9, 1969. With the heat being worse in the city Sharon had asked Chapman is she had wanted to stay the night since it was cooler up in the hills. Chapman had declined the offer and it was she who discovered the dead bodies the following morning when she arrived.

[quote] Sharon's look was pretty simple, not much makeup, usually flat shoes, little to no accessories, not very done up. This makes her look timeless in most cases

Tate's trademark look was not "pretty simple". She was most known for her 60s-style dramatic makeup (lots of eyeliner, mascara, big hairdos,). She was a Texas girl after all. Did she sometimes get tired of it and go more casual? Yes. But her standard go-to trademark evening look was still very done up.

And she wore flat shoes because her partner, Roman Polanski, was very short (only 5'5'). She was around 5'6' and so would tower over him in high heels.

Here is Tate with Polanski and friends at London's Playboy club.

Speaking of movies on this subject, a few years ago I read an article in either variety or Hollywood reporter about a movie planned about the life of hairdresser Jay Sebring. It would be directed by James Franco (who would also star as Jay ) and would focus on Tate, Sebring and their friends during the mid to late 60s. It would be more about the rise of their careers and friendships. I thought it sounded very interesting but there have been no updates . I wonder if Franco changed his mind and discarded the idea. I'm not reading too much about this, because GT's movies have the potential to be amazing entertainment, and I don't want it spoiled if it's the sort of movie he makes that I like.

I absolutely loved Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown, and also really liked Reservoir Dogs, although it was a bit too unpolished for my tastes. But recently he's been Mr. Revenge Picture, cloaking his sadism in "empowerment" (Jews strike back, Blacks strike back, women strike back). And that I definitely am not interested in. I didn't even see Hateful 8 because I've been over him making that type of movie for a while.

If he returns to form I'm there. Of course the problem is finding out what type of movie it is without finding out too much about the movie. I had heard that Pulp Fiction was very good but didn't read too much about it, walked into the theater cold, and was blown away by how entertaining it was. I would love for that to happen again.

Has that whiner Debra Tate started the media rounds yet?

by Anonymousreply 330March 20, 2019 2:06 PM

Deb gave her approval for this film. She don't mind Marge playing Sharon.

by Anonymousreply 331March 20, 2019 4:44 PM

R331 I laughed when Deb was crying about Jennifer Lawrence possibly playing Sharon. But, JLaw was being considered for another role in the movie. Deb had egg on her face.

by Anonymousreply 332March 20, 2019 10:16 PM

R332, who cares. JLAW is not playing Sharon . I am glad JLAW is still working.

Who will play Polanski?

by Anonymousreply 335March 21, 2019 4:05 AM

Grandpa Munster.

by Anonymousreply 336March 21, 2019 4:15 AM

R336 You're totally right.

by Anonymousreply 337March 21, 2019 4:17 AM

It looks great, can't wait to see it.

by Anonymousreply 338March 21, 2019 4:48 AM

That teaser is fucking amazing.

by Anonymousreply 339March 21, 2019 2:21 PM

This dude is playing Ro Polanski, R335

by Anonymousreply 340March 21, 2019 8:09 PM

Has Polanski made any comments on this film being released?

by Anonymousreply 341March 21, 2019 8:24 PM

"Any young gash for me to sample?"

by Anonymousreply 342March 21, 2019 8:39 PM

Rafal Zawierucha actually looks more like Roman's friend Wojciech Frykowski, who was murdered with Sharon and the others.

by Anonymousreply 343March 21, 2019 11:41 PM

This is one movie I'll miss. I can imagine the gore and violence, especially when it's a true story. No thanks..

by Anonymousreply 344March 22, 2019 12:32 AM

This bro is playing Voy-Voy. He looks highly suckable. The real Voy-Voy did not.

Leo and Brad don’t talk like TV stars from the 1970s. They don’t have the tone right or something.

by Anonymousreply 346March 27, 2019 3:21 PM

Rumer Willis as Joanna Pettet! How... creative.

by Anonymousreply 347March 27, 2019 3:25 PM

Nobody is playing Sadie? Linda Kasabian?

by Anonymousreply 348March 27, 2019 3:33 PM

I assumed Linda Kasabian was what pie-face JLaw was up for.

by Anonymousreply 349March 27, 2019 3:40 PM

I think JLaw was up for the Squeaky Fromme part.

by Anonymousreply 350March 28, 2019 12:53 PM

OUATIH will be one of three Manson-themed movies coming out this year, the other two being "Charlie Says", with Matt Smith and a bunch of other Brits, and the looks-like-complete-shit "Haunting of Sharon Tate", with Hillary Duff. The trailer for the latter film actually pissed me off.

by Anonymousreply 351March 28, 2019 6:00 PM

Exploitation station.

by Anonymousreply 352March 28, 2019 7:57 PM

Was it Nancy Wolfe who chillingly played Susan 'Sadie' Atkins in the 1976 tv movie of Helter Skelter? I remember staying up late to watch the 2 parter with school the next day. Some guy in our AV dept taped it and showed it during lunch in the cafeteria.

by Anonymousreply 353March 28, 2019 8:39 PM

JFC. They showed that during lunch?!?!?!?

by Anonymousreply 354April 2, 2019 5:21 PM

Is there any chance a new thread could be started to discuss this topic? Every time I see that picture of Tarantino at OP's link I start to feel super queasy. 🤢

by Anonymousreply 355April 2, 2019 5:26 PM

Pitt and Decaprio don’t sound like 1970 when they make ā€œtaking his loadsā€ jokes.

Seems like a shitty movie, so far.

by Anonymousreply 356April 2, 2019 5:35 PM

r355 That's the joke and the reason why this thread has had such longevity. That photo of him makes me laugh every time this thread gets bumped. So fucking smug.

by Anonymousreply 357April 2, 2019 5:39 PM

If the thread gets FF’d enough, the pic will disappear.

by Anonymousreply 358April 2, 2019 5:41 PM

Frankenstein Tarantino

by Anonymousreply 359April 2, 2019 5:44 PM

R356 I wondered about that joke, it seemed more of a modern double entendre. I wasn't around in the 70s so I'm not sure about the lingo.

by Anonymousreply 360April 2, 2019 5:47 PM

He seems gay and closeted if you look at his work. The new rent-a-bride doesn’t help lol

by Anonymousreply 361April 2, 2019 6:21 PM

Screening at Cannes.

Zzzzzz...

Tarantino is no longer relevant.

by Anonymousreply 363May 2, 2019 6:26 PM

Finally saw this. Not bad.

[R29], the tragic event is that your mother didn't give into her initial raging impulse to abort you when she had the chance. She certainly didn't do the world any favours giving birth to something that transparently has something missing in the top story. This isn't funny. And neither is your puerile attempt at humour. I pour wax on your trabajo, I spit on you - PUH! And I curse your mother's mustache. You vile, sick little fuck.
