While Gio is hosting an online Pride parade commentary with Tommy, his arch nemesis Whit Johnson anchored ABC World News Tonight on Saturday night, subbing for Tom Llamas.

Whit's only been with ABC since March and they're already having him anchor the flagship news program, albeit a weekend edition of it. Meanwhile, Gio has been with ABC since 2012, and he's never anchored any of the network's news programs except the overnight news on a handful of occasions.

I watched the first two minutes online. Tommy’s microphone didn’t work the first minute. That somehow seemed appropriate.

If Gommy could have their own Pride Show for an hour on a major network in 2018, then Matthew Shepard did not die in vain.

I just got through watching the tape of Gio and Tommy doing the special from the NYC pride festival. The two did a good job of it. I was impressed, but admittedly, I had low expectations.

That said, their hosting was nothing fantastic. Don't look for ABC to send them to every pride festival in the country to host a Facebook Live event. But there were no major faux pas or inserting their foot into their mouths (like Joan Rivers or Larry King would do). Yes, the microphones didn't work properly several times, but that wasn't their fault.

So, I'd give them a C+/B- for their hosting.

Also watch Gio interviewing Michael Urie and Andrew Rannells. It's tacked on at the end of the pride festival tape.

Gio did a decent job interviewing them. Again nothing fantastic. Oprah and Ellen don't have anything to worry about. Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest can rest easy that their jobs are safe.

But Gio did a good job. Of course it helps that Michael Urie and Andrew Rannells were such good interviews. They were open, friendly, funny, willing to talk, happy to share their experiences, all of which makes the interviewer's job so much easier.
