How Often Do You Get Banned from Datalounge?

I had no idea you could be banned. Can someone explain it? Also can someone explain when it is best to reply to certain posts with "MARY!"?

The weird thing is, it's never the things that I expect will get me banned that do, And the things that get me banned*usually just 24 hours) are not very bad.

I got banned for a few months after I teased a troll. She was saying I and other posters were some woman who stalked her and her boyfriend using datalounge and other web pages. What was really creepy is she lives in the same part of the world as me so she must have just been reading everything I posted.

I don't think I've ever been banned, but there were a couple of days when none of my posts would show up. That was right after I complained about our most tedious troll, so I figured he must have FFed me into oblivion, from his multiple devices. Otherwise, I think my 'karma' is generally pretty good, since I occasionally get a WW, and I don't post trollish things (since I'm not a troll).

First you get a pop up from your browser asking you whether you want receive such pop up messages or not. If you accept you pop ups of other readers ww-ing your comment (when you click on that pop-up you can then see which comment got WW'd).

You don't get banned around here. Even trolls still can post as much as they want (it's just they are tagged as trolls AND / OR can be set on ignore by other users where said users don't see past, present, and future messages from the troll they set on ignore and, that way, are denied what they crave, attention). You may experience primetime where non-paying readers can't post threads or can't comment.

I hesitate to go into too much detail because past experience says that talking about bannings will get you a bannin'. But I will say that, years ago, you could get banned for nothing. In retrospect I'm pretty sure it was trolls using trolldar, singling someone out, then FFing them repeatedly with multiple browsers. The troll in my case once got drunk and spent the overnight hours bragging about how he could game FFs and the W&W column. That was years ago; nowadays everyone knows how to game the FF system..

Anyhow, about 3-4 years ago a mod showed up to answer some questions and mentioned that they rarely did any moderation, it was the users themselves with FFs who did moderation. Lately, people don't really get banned anymore.

R7, I think R8 and R9 answered the question. I went back to look at my settings, and wasn't really able to verify that, but I remember that I had to 'Allow' the pop-up messages a long time ago. I hope you do, too. If you've otherwise had a shitty day, it's really nice to have a simple pat on the back (figuratively), when you sign in to DL.

Not trolling though...there are certain subjects which the administrators just don't like, so when you write about them, you are rolling the dice.

I was once banned for a year. And nothing I tried worked. They seem to have banned my IP itself.

It was only when the board switched formats that I was able to come back.

I've been banned on two occasions. The first time, before Trump was elected, I got into an argument with right wing trolls who apparently FFed me to hell. The second time, bizarrely enough, was in a Chris Pratt thread where I brought up his family's animal abuse. I got so many FFs in a few minutes that my post was deleted and I got banned. Since I was a subscriber I cleared the cookies and logged back in. When I posted again in that thread telling what had happened I was bombarded again with FFs and got banned again in like 10 minutes.

I have a hard time believing we have enough zealous Chris Pratt fans to be able to do that, at least so fast. I can only assume some trolls have managed to find a loophole that lets them pretty much destroy anyone they what. Unless Muriel is a crazy Pratt fan, that is.

I received a 24-hour time out last January. I posted a "What are We Reading in 2018?" topic and some trolls on a FF spree seized upon it.

I have never been red-tagged by Muriel. I have never posted anything homophobic, racist, transphobic, misogynist, anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim, or pro-Putin. But social media is such where users can FF or block at whim. Just one or two individuals can have an unlimited number of sock puppet accounts and F&F your account into oblivion. If you mean getting the "you don't have permission to post at this time" message, I get that at least once a day. It clears after a while, or if I refresh.

I have said a bunch of crazy offensive shit but still haven't been banned. It's probably because I don't believe half of it so it doesn't come off as sincere.

I sometimes ban myself from Datalounge. Usually 24-48 hours. Sometimes longer.
