MSNBC weekend host Joy-Ann Reid apologized last December for a series of homophobic blog posts she wrote from 2007 to 2009 about then-Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, whom she repeatedly mocked as “Miss Charlie” and ridiculed with ugly anti-gay stereotypes. Miss Charlie, wrote Reid, was someone who, if he ever got to the White House as John McCain’s vice president, would be fixated not on policy, but on designing pretty napkin patterns at state funerals, and spend his honeymoon “ogling male waiters.” In her apology, Reid insisted that she has some gay friends (“The LGBT community includes people whom I deeply love”) and that her writings were “insensitive, tone deaf and dumb.”

Nobody cares about gays. You get street cred for trashing them. Joy will be fine. This is probably good for her career.

Doesn't change the fact that if a mainstream news outlet is going to report accusations against a public figure, those accusations should be sourced to a real person with a real first and last name and a real identity, not an anonymous Twitter user. That's Journalism 101. Joy Reid has backed out of a planned speaking event, according to people involved in the conference, as the MSNBC host claims that recently uncovered, anti-gay blog posts were fabricated.

Reid was set to participate Thursday in a "Change Summit" event in New York organized by former US attorney Preet Bharara and his media venture CAFE. Reid planned to moderate a panel with Washington Lt. Gov. Cyrus Habib; Pete Buttigieg, the openly gay mayor of South Bend, Indiana; and Ravi Bhalla, the mayor of Hoboken, New Jersey.

So now she won't even go on a stage with a gay man.

He says, "I don't care what the truth is, I like her and therefore I choose to believe or forgive her." He says he has castigated people for less in the past, but his fondness for Joy is what matters to him.

From what I can tell, after reading close to 1K posts on several different threads here tonight, I think that is what all the Joy proponents are really saying. They know in their heart of hearts that she did say those things, but they like her and thus don't really care what she said.

The dates of the screenshots on Twitter were 2005 and 2006. The date of the Coulter tweet was 2010, and that's the most recent example.

The dates of the posts found back in December were 2007 and 2009.

As someone who was really into political blogs in the mid 2000s, the biggest question mark in my mind is why there were no comments on the posts in question.

One example is a three-sentence post where she links to an article about genetic manipulation of fetuses potentially being used to prevent "the gay gene," and she says it's an "interesting moral question." How could that have not gotten a single comment? I know it was just a little blurb post, but my experience is that back during the heyday of blogs, there would be TONS of comments on something like that.

Another example was a listicle. You're telling me on a blog which had tons of comments on every other post, no one comment to add their own items to a listicle? Please.

She should be fired for wearing those cheap wigs.

If the Twitter user found all of these supposed homophobic posts, I would assume he saved the entire posts somewhere. So why is he only showing us small screenshots of individual sentences or paragraphs? Why doesn't he upload the entire posts in question to the web so that we can read them in their full context and decide for ourselves whether or not Joy is homophobic? I've looked at the supposed homophobic stuff, and it's hard for me to make much sense of any of it because there's no context. In many cases, I don't know whether Joy is giving her own opinion or summarizing the views of other people. I want to see the full posts. I also want to know whether she was posting anything pro-gay or gay-friendly during the same time frame. Were these the only posts where she mentioned gay people?
