Joy Reid denies writing anti-gay posts in her now-deleted blog

I hope she’s telling the truth.

by Anonymousreply 601April 25, 2018 11:40 PM

Joy always struck me as someone who would complain because gay men are stealing eligible black men.

by Anonymousreply 1April 23, 2018 4:32 PM

According to that article, she has already admitted to some anti-gay stuff

She never came across as bright.

by Anonymousreply 2April 23, 2018 4:32 PM

hmmmmmmmm?

by Anonymousreply 3April 23, 2018 4:34 PM

Is Anderson Cooper going to report on this? Will he start the drumbeat to get her fired?

by Anonymousreply 4April 23, 2018 4:34 PM

She's Black. She gets a pass.

by Anonymousreply 5April 23, 2018 4:38 PM

And I've been getting shit for less than that for how long now?

by Anonymousreply 6April 23, 2018 4:42 PM

[quote]According to that article, she has already admitted to some anti-gay stuff

What, referring to closet case Republican Charlie Christ as Miss Charlie? You have to be kidding me. I know you hate Joy Reid because she is an "uppity black", and nothing is worse than that, but try harder.

by Anonymousreply 7April 23, 2018 4:43 PM

It's not racist if they really are homophobic. I'm tired of nonwhite beneficiaries of heterosexual privilege and gentile privilege getting off the hook for this. If you hate gays, your race card will be declined.

by Anonymousreply 8April 23, 2018 4:47 PM

I thought you queens washed your hands of her once her old pro Bernie tweets were dug up.

by Anonymousreply 9April 23, 2018 4:49 PM

She ain't all that

by Anonymousreply 10April 23, 2018 4:49 PM

She seems to have genuine friendships with Rachel, and with Jonathan Capehart, and out-gay WAPO columnist who often appears on her show. Capehart is well-regarded and frequently appears on most of the shows, he wouldn't need to appear on Joy's.

I don't think either would have much to do with her if she was truly the person as depicted in those tweets.

by Anonymousreply 11April 23, 2018 4:50 PM

FF for fake concern OP. Plus, R7 is exactly right.

by Anonymousreply 12April 23, 2018 5:02 PM

[quote] Joy always struck me as someone who would complain because gay men are stealing eligible black men.

The same could be argued about women stealing men from gay men.

by Anonymousreply 13April 23, 2018 5:03 PM

Who IS she? Who WAS she? Who does she hope to be?

by Anonymousreply 14April 23, 2018 5:06 PM

[quote] “Keeping it real … most straight men feel exactly the same way, and would have the exact same reaction to the idea of stripping naked in a sweaty locker room in close quarters with a gay teammate. Most straight people cringe at the sight of two men kissing… Most straight people had a hard time being convinced to watch ‘Broke Back Mountain.’ (I admit that I couldn’t go see the movie either, despite my sister’s ringing endorsement, because I didn’t want to watch the two male characters having sex.) Does that make me homophobic? Probably.”

[quote] “Some people use the [word] ‘immoral’ when they really mean ‘distasteful’ — I think a lot of heterosexuals, especially men, find the idea of homosexual sex to be … well … gross, and they lump it in with immorality,” (...) “And then there are the concerns that adult gay men tend to be attracted to very young, post-pubescent types, bringing them ‘into the lifestyle’ in a way that many people consider to be immoral.”

[quote] “Ditto with gay rights groups that seek to organize very young, impressionable teens who may have an inclination that they are gay.”

[quote] “[Rick] Warren’s views on gays are out of the mainstream. Perhaps Rachel Maddow… and those at the left-most end of political spectrum wish it were so, but it is not,”

[quote] “I’m not a gay marriage proponent.”

A question I have: when was the blog post archived? If it was archived before she was famous nationally, I would find her claim that her site was hacked suspect.

by Anonymousreply 18April 23, 2018 5:41 PM

It was archived automatically by the wayback machine. Somebody pulled the old posts from that website, and now she claims that person 1) somehow went and searched for posts of her old blog when it was defunct for years, and 2) doctored the posts to paint her as homophobic. It's nonsensical and thus utter bullshit on her part.

More like somebody remembered her homophobic shit and went on wayback to see if they could retrieve proof to expose her.

She's lying.

by Anonymousreply 19April 23, 2018 5:44 PM

She doesn’t seem to acknowledge lesbians. It seems that she finds gay male sex gross. Does she know how two women have sex?

by Anonymousreply 20April 23, 2018 5:58 PM

I really hope this isn't true.

by Anonymousreply 21April 23, 2018 6:02 PM

That's not uncommon, R20. For plenty of people homophobia extends only to men-men, not women-women.

by Anonymousreply 22April 23, 2018 6:03 PM

Uuuuggghhhhh. This would really suck if true.

by Anonymousreply 23April 23, 2018 6:05 PM

Why is it always the chubby ones?

by Anonymousreply 24April 23, 2018 6:45 PM

[quote]She doesn’t seem to acknowledge lesbians. It seems that she finds gay male sex gross.

She also calls us pedophiles and states she's anti-gay marriage.

Now I understand her vendetta against certain gay leftists such as Glenn Greenwald.

by Anonymousreply 25April 23, 2018 6:51 PM

[quote] It's nonsensical and thus utter bullshit on her part.

Of course it is. This is someone who once said that a good way to escape NSA surveillance is to clean your browser history.

Yep, alt-right types all over this thread.

by Anonymousreply 27April 23, 2018 6:57 PM

No, I'm a left-wing gay men. But if you talk about my kind the way Joy Reid did, I'm taking off my gloves when talking about yours.

by Anonymousreply 28April 23, 2018 7:00 PM

Fuck you, R26.

I need to see this blog for myself. Anyone have a link?

I don’t know much about this woman, but I personally have never heard a black woman speak poorly about gay men. I’m sure plenty do, but I haven’t come across it as of yet.

I have heard black women discussing their exes having affairs with men, and how they wish their exes had just followed their hearts, and be who they really are, rather than being on the downlow, and fucking them and their kids over because they couldn’t be honest.

If she wrote this shit, then she deserves to be written off. But I want to see it for myself.

by Anonymousreply 29April 23, 2018 7:02 PM

She fancies herself part of the establishment. Just like Clinton and Obama they would all rather have seen civil unions.

Also, her dad is from the Congo and put some pretty conservative (social) stuff in her head early.

Oddly enough, she has a gay son. He's a "commercial actor" and is gay as a three dollar bill. Has IG but I don't know his name.

by Anonymousreply 30April 23, 2018 7:04 PM

by Anonymousreply 32April 23, 2018 7:05 PM

[quote]She fancies herself part of the establishment. Just like Clinton and Obama they would all rather have seen civil unions.

Well, my guess is that she would oppose civil unions as she would be against any recognition of gay male families. You wouldn't want gay male couples near "post-pubescent types", after all.

by Anonymousreply 33April 23, 2018 7:07 PM

R32, Why you can't believe it? She is using that excuse because she know it will work . Her fan gurls on twitter are already blaming it on Russian

by Anonymousreply 34April 23, 2018 7:08 PM

If she wrote what’s posted at R15, she deserves to be destroyed by this. However, we can call out our enemies without sinking to (or well past) their level with blatant racism.

by Anonymousreply 35April 23, 2018 7:13 PM

This is so bizzarre. If true, then her career is over. I almost want to believe the “I got hacked” defense but that is highly unlikely. Unlike her Crist posts, I can’t she how she can worm her way out of this one. Also, to claim she was hacked and have it not be the case is a very dangerous ploy.

by Anonymousreply 36April 23, 2018 7:14 PM

Yeah I'd like to believe she didn't write those comments, but we will see what comes out. It does irk me see a bunch of racist, homophobes acting like they care about gay people.

by Anonymousreply 37April 23, 2018 7:17 PM

This is why we should stop celebrating loud straight women, especially if they're Black - because they're usually traditionalist, of low IQ, and hyper-conservative about all issues not impacting themselves.

by Anonymousreply 38April 23, 2018 7:21 PM

Her Twitter account was repeating some of the same ideas.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 39April 23, 2018 7:23 PM

I don't think this is the end of her career. I don't think gay groups would demand a thing from her. Gay men nowadays are scared of going against Black women - remember all those articles written these past few years about gay men oppressing Black women. Well, they've succeeded, gay men don't want to call out homophobic Blacks anymore.

by Anonymousreply 40April 23, 2018 7:30 PM

Why is this coming out just now? Wasn’t this written way back?

I dunno. I’m really trying to give her the benefit of the doubt. But I cannot see why anyone would want to target her with this kind of mess. Why would anyone, especially Russians, be motivated to hack her accounts?

by Anonymousreply 41April 23, 2018 7:34 PM

[quote]She's just a gorilla taught how to talk.

by Anonymousreply 43April 23, 2018 7:38 PM

r43 You've not read anything she said, huh?

by Anonymousreply 44April 23, 2018 7:39 PM

Not black women? I live in Austin and work with southern black baptists. They have no trouble talking about love the sinner and hate the sin. But be aware the sinner is going to hell and thus many have huge issues with gay men. These women believe it is a choice, not something you are born with. And gay men are stealing black men away from them. I find more black women being antigay due to the religious angle then black men, who usually just don't want to hear about it. Polls showed it was black people and old people who originally fucked it up for gay marriage in California.

by Anonymousreply 45April 23, 2018 7:39 PM

[quote]I’m really trying to give her the benefit of the doubt.

Why? Would you do the same thing if it was Sean Hannity who was reported to have written this homophobic shit? Of course not. You think black women can't be homophobic? If that's the case, you need to get out more.

Every time some celebrity shows their bigotry on the internet, they always claim hacking. It'd be hilarious if it wasn't so pathetic. Change the script, bitch.

by Anonymousreply 48April 23, 2018 7:42 PM

I believe her. She’s fighting back and saying she was hacked.

She speaks up against Trump, and because he cannot get Mika and Joe out, he’s going for smaller fish.

I’m going to believe her for now, unless otherwise necessary.

R38, I don’t even know why you come here. You hate minorities, you hate women, and I’m sure you hate me, and all of us here, other than your racist brethren who come here to gay bash and race bait.

Hispanics were also more likely to vote for Prop 8, but the difference vis-a-vis White people was slight.

by Anonymousreply 57April 23, 2018 7:55 PM

Interesting to see the opinions people here have of Black people... Anyway, I agree she would be the first one to jump on Hannity if he had written similar posts. After all the stuff we have learned over the last few years about Facebook, Russian hacking, bots etc., anything is possible. However, I don’t believe her hacking defense. Especially, after her earlier admission to writing the Crist posts. Interesting to see how MSNBC handles this revelation.

by Anonymousreply 58April 23, 2018 7:59 PM

She has still been tweeting like everything is fine.

by Anonymousreply 59April 23, 2018 8:06 PM

Nothing will happen to her .Most gays media outlets not even reporting this . And its not like she has said anything against Trans which is the current fad among liberal people

by Anonymousreply 60April 23, 2018 8:09 PM

What a hateful bitch.

by Anonymousreply 61April 23, 2018 8:14 PM

The Wayback Machine has never been that quick at deleting old content, and the guy on Twitter who claims to have found all this didn't provide any links or show any URLs in the snapshots. He said he grabbed the screenshots a long time ago, so why didn't he publicize them until a few days ago? Why are they just partial sentences taken entirely out of context?

Also, when he provided what were supposed to be legitimate links to Mediaite, they didn't work. All makes me question a lot of what we're supposedly seeing.

A lot of what is shown is pretty dull, anyway -- it's over a decade old and written in the same idiotic style that was very popular with political bloggers back in the early and mid 2000s. What she says about gay sex is exactly what several well-known film critics said about Brokeback Mountain. It wasn't right, but it was a straight person talking point in 2005 and 2006. Things were so different back then, it's hard to explain it to people who honestly don't remember.

by Anonymousreply 62April 23, 2018 9:01 PM

This is the second round of "found" anti-gay tweets.

To be fair, these are from a decade ago. It's not like her views haven't changed at all in that time period.

by Anonymousreply 65April 24, 2018 1:25 AM

Even if nothing happens to her, at least she got caught.

by Anonymousreply 66April 24, 2018 1:27 AM

I can see that with older generations, but she should have known better, R65. Also, she went to Harvard.

by Anonymousreply 69April 24, 2018 1:29 AM

Sounds like dirt produced my the likes of Roger Stone. This is the stuff he and his group try to dredge up. I am very skeptical. Especially if there can be no viable or credible links.

Also, one poster above says, go after my kind, it's over and bets are off. This site routinely shreds both gay and gay friendly with abandon. In a thread about reacting to a dog coming in your yard, several give recipes on how to poison the dog vs humanely calling Animal Control. Many on this site don't have a supportive humane bone in their body.

Even if she has written comments about her personal opinion regarding gay, and gay marriage that today we do not agree with, people grow, change & evolve. Let them.

by Anonymousreply 70April 24, 2018 1:47 AM

People who are 49 lived through the gay rights era. She isn't 109.

by Anonymousreply 71April 24, 2018 1:51 AM

She totally wrote them, and she should've admitted it, said she was sorry, and let the chips fall where they may.

Now she's gonna be out of a job. She lied.

by Anonymousreply 72April 24, 2018 2:14 AM

If it were the case that she had written the homophobic stuff, wouldn't you think that she'd hire some IT image consultant to scrub it all from the internet. and wayback machine of such content if she was hoping to be hired by MSNBC? It's not like her blog spread over the internet like wildfire and cannot be taken back. The blog content is in one spot. The Miss Crist post calling out his hypocrisy? Why would she call out Crist's homophobic record if she was simultaneously posting the kind of stuff this guy purports to have found.? Something weird is going on.

by Anonymousreply 78April 24, 2018 2:39 AM

To be fair she didn't say anything lots of posters here on DL would write themselves. There is a difference between making fun of, mocking and inciting hatred.

by Anonymousreply 79April 24, 2018 2:44 AM

by Anonymousreply 81April 24, 2018 2:53 AM

For the past year, I've kept coming across this "Joy Reid was a homophobe" meme coming from obvious Russian bots on Yahoo Comments. The same ones keep raring on claims that 'black people are naturally homophobes,' strewn with other anti-black posts. I am unsurprised to see that it's migrated here to the DL.

by Anonymousreply 82April 24, 2018 2:55 AM

If those were hackers, they did a damn good job making it believable. Those are not some garden variety hackers for sure.

by Anonymousreply 83April 24, 2018 2:59 AM

I guess they didn’t get far with the Joy Russian conspiracy nonsense, so it’s back to this. Divide and conquer liberals.

by Anonymousreply 84April 24, 2018 3:00 AM

There has been a coordinated effort for the last year or so to take down Joy Reid. Don't buy into this nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 85April 24, 2018 3:01 AM

by Anonymousreply 86April 24, 2018 3:03 AM

R29 If you are telling the truth, I invite you to visit www.HollywoodStreetKing.com, an urban site which is a tad less polite and civil than LSA. It is also primarily female. You will read things which will make you want to smash whatever device you are using. I was a regular there for six years, all the while trying my best to enlighten the readership as to LBG people and the realities of being gay(I am a woman.)

They are all extremely churchy women, and their homophobia stems from what they truly believe is the "word of god." But that does not lessen their hideously cruel words they use to describe and indict gay men(they are far less harsh in judging lesbians.)

I eventually stopped visiting the site because I gave up trying to effect change, and I could no longer bear their ignorant ugly words.

If you are familiar with DL's resident black bi female troll who almost daily posts" I hope all you white old fags die of AIDS" and "if I knew where you lived I would kill you myself," then I can assure you she would fit right in there.

by Anonymousreply 87April 24, 2018 3:08 AM

I don't know who she be ats.

by Anonymousreply 88April 24, 2018 3:12 AM

Just to put this into some perspective - Obama was against gay marriage in 2008, seven years later his administration successfully pushed for same sex marriage.

Unless Joy Reid is caught on tape in the same fashion as Kim Burrell was, I give her the benefit of a doubt that she is a homophobe.

by Anonymousreply 89April 24, 2018 3:14 AM

The curious thing is that the info had already been removed from the Way back Machine when this was posted. It seems like regardless of the truth of the matter, the person who found the info had presented Reid with this info previously and she had it taken down. But for what purpose? And does the Wayback Machine just take pages down on request?

by Anonymousreply 90April 24, 2018 3:15 AM

Joy Reid is a lot of things, but she is no homophobe. Think people. Don't let them do this. This is the same kind of shit that took down Al Franken.

by Anonymousreply 91April 24, 2018 3:19 AM

Liberals don't care about gay people, it's 2015. Where have you guys been the past few years? please. She'll be fine.

Besides gay men are far beneath black women on the oppression totem pole. Hell, I doubt gays are even on it anymore.

I'm not sure that Wayback Machine is reliable since it accepts external contributions from users. How difficult would it be for Russians or 4chan users to upload fake material to the archive and then cite it, somewhat the way the 'Dossiers Secrets d'Henri Lobineau' were surreptitiously added to the Bibliothèque nationale de France in 1967?

R87 as you continue on your enlightenment crusade. I invite you to visit www.datalounge.com. I’m not sure of the geographic location of most of the posters, rural or urban. But it is also often times less civil and polite than any number of other sites. And you will also read things that will make you want to smash whatever device you are using.

They are extremely bigoted and sexist. Their white supremacist bigotry and misogyny stems from their own insecurities and their lack of exposure to people who are different from them.

Let’s see how many years you will be able to tolerate that. Maybe you can enlighten that readership.

[quote]The thing that makes me want to believe her is as much as the right hates her and wants to destroy her....they just found these comments now?

Well R86, I believe her. Why?

1. She openly admitted the stuff she wrote was wrong last time while attacking an anti-gay Republican politician she believed was closeted (and thus shouldn't be attacking gay rights) and he forgave her. She was calling him a hypocrite while unfortunately using gay stereotypes to call him out and that got her in trouble.

2. The stuff they're saying was posted before that *no one* seemed to find until *now* is contrary to the posts she *did* admit she made.

3. At this point if there had been anything else: someone would have found it a while ago. You don't think someone was combing through those entries after the last news story?

It's clearly a coordinated attack and I don't even like Joy Reid because of a run in I had with her a few years back.

For example, see how "balanced" this bit of her alleged homophobia is from the blog:

But part of the intrinsic nature of "straightness" is that idea that homosexual sex is....well...gross.... even if you think gay people are perfectly lovely individuals. For the record, I'm sure gay people think straight sex is gross, too, it's just that the nature of political correctness is that gay people are ALLOWED to say straight sex is gross, but the reverse is considered to be patently homophobic.

If this is the the result of having her website hacked, then the brilliance of Boris and Svetlana's work here is that it reads like an extension of some of the tweets that Reid has already admitted to authoring.

by Anonymousreply 103April 24, 2018 3:35 AM

r102, Lots of self professed liberal leaders support Farrakhan. Womens march leader Tamika Mallory posted a picture with him calling him "The greatest of all time" and basically told critics of that decision to go fuck themselves.. This was the same night she attended a speech where he said jews were his enemy.

by Anonymousreply 104April 24, 2018 3:37 AM

No R102 your point is that liberals should continue taking the bait from conservatives and continue focusing on eating our own in a perpetual purity purge. Instead of closing ranks, uniting and going after conservatives.

by Anonymousreply 105April 24, 2018 3:41 AM

Tamika Mallory has been widely criticized for her Farrakhan connections, and rightfully so.

I don't know if there is hope for somebody like Mallory, she's so far down the rabbit hole that I don't think she will ever come to her senses.

by Anonymousreply 106April 24, 2018 3:45 AM

There are a lot of posters — or maybe it’s just one poster using various devices — aggressively pushing this thread, and this thread alone. They have no other posting history.

by Anonymousreply 107April 24, 2018 3:45 AM

The people they stuck in there as "leaders" of the women's march were a bunch of frauds to derail the whole thing (they support other causes that have nothing to do with, or are anti-women)

by Anonymousreply 108April 24, 2018 3:47 AM

Sure you wouldn't, R102. I'd be willing to bet you're a Trump supporter.

*My* point was that not everyone who attended that march agreed with Farrakhan. Largest organized group of black men ever; it would have been foolish for blacks to stand outside of it and refuse to participate.

by Anonymousreply 109April 24, 2018 3:47 AM

[quote]Instead of closing ranks, uniting and going after conservatives.

Farrakhan is a conservative, he supported Trump.

by Anonymousreply 110April 24, 2018 3:47 AM

I prefer allies to enemies. I'm weird that way.

by Anonymousreply 111April 24, 2018 3:47 AM

That the right would go to these lengths to attack her proves she's one of the biggest thorns on their side. Is true she has a gay son? That would make this even less likely.

by Anonymousreply 112April 24, 2018 3:48 AM

[quote]I'd be willing to bet you're a Trump supporter.

I am not, Farrakhan is, dummy!

by Anonymousreply 113April 24, 2018 3:48 AM

R110, the vast majority of blacks do not concur with Farrakhan. Climb off it already.

by Anonymousreply 114April 24, 2018 3:49 AM

The posts they show are very believable. Hard to imagine a Russian hacker coming up with the things in those blog posts. Maybe, *maybe* 4chan could. I don't want to believe. Frankly, I don't really even care. The things she said are said a million times a day. She evolved. Good for her if she did.

Her denying it and going so far as to hand the matter over to the FBI really throws me. I take her at her world.

Moving on...

by Anonymousreply 115April 24, 2018 3:50 AM

R99 can you describe the run-in? What happened?

by Anonymousreply 116April 24, 2018 3:55 AM

[quote]the vast majority of blacks do not concur with Farrakhan

Yet they did in 95, including Obama.

My point is, since R114 and her frothing-at-the-mouth-dummies still don't understand. People change, they make mistakes and they better themselves. Like I said before in this thread, unless Joy Reid pulled a Kim Burrell, I don't think she is a nonredeemable homophobe.

by Anonymousreply 117April 24, 2018 3:56 AM

Does it work the o that way around, r8. There is much more racism towards blacks from your community than the other way around.

by Anonymousreply 118April 24, 2018 3:58 AM

The psycho right wingers and Russian trolls have been trying to sabotage successful liberal politicians and news hosts in the last year so it wouldn't surprise me if they tried it with Joy. She admitted to what she already did back in December and now suddenly there's more stuff that didn't already come out? yeah ok. Hannity is probably paying these people to do this.

by Anonymousreply 119April 24, 2018 3:59 AM

R117, no they did not concur with Farrakhan, not even then. As I pointed out, the march had lots of different speakers, offering different points of view.

by Anonymousreply 120April 24, 2018 4:01 AM

A lot of what Louis Farrakhan says on behalf of black people is true. He speaks the truth and some people don't like him for it.

Also Louis Farrakhan is not a bad person. I don't agree with everything he says. But he makes a lot of great points. Not only that. But even Kanye west and Kim Kardashian went to Chicago to meet with Farrakhan at his house. And posed for a photo with him.

So there's that.

by Anonymousreply 121April 24, 2018 4:02 AM

I must admit I am curious about Farrakhan's hold on SOME black people still. I don't think most black people care about him all that much, but enough black politicians do that I wonder what the deal is. why does anybody give him any kind of respect still. he's clearly an asshole. why care at this point?

by Anonymousreply 122April 24, 2018 4:02 AM

cross posted with r121. so, farrakhan seems like a douche to a lot of us, at least us whites, but I think a lot of blacks. but you clearly disagree. what has he done that's so great?

by Anonymousreply 123April 24, 2018 4:04 AM

R119, there's money going into these right wing initiatives from the American oligarchs, the Kochs and the Mercers. There's also dark money funnelled in from Russia through crooked real estate deals. In the latter, Hannity may well be a participant; Trump certainly is.

by Anonymousreply 124April 24, 2018 4:05 AM

R26 for your comment alone I will defend Reid. Calling black people "gorillas"? Your are the reason why so many POC have problems with the gay community. Boy, if you said that shit to me you'd be dead on the spot.

by Anonymousreply 125April 24, 2018 4:05 AM

R74, Which is why they have her on Saturday mornings????

by Anonymousreply 126April 24, 2018 4:05 AM

And which black politicians would that be R122? Membership wise, the Nation of Islam is a relatively small organization. Contrary to what the right wing media would have you think. There are relatively small numbers of Muslims converted and otherwise in the United States. Christianity is still the dominant faith.

by Anonymousreply 127April 24, 2018 4:11 AM

r121, If He was a white person who has said half the fucked up shit he has said you likely would consider him a bad person. Hypocrisy of some people knows no bounds

by Anonymousreply 128April 24, 2018 4:12 AM

r127, The KKK is a relatively small organization despite what the mass media would have you think too. What's your point?

by Anonymousreply 129April 24, 2018 4:14 AM

[quote] —Fuck I hate the left

Right wing and Russian trolls generally do.

by Anonymousreply 130April 24, 2018 4:15 AM

DL logic is holding black people responsible for Prop 8, even when they are a minority in California less than the actual white people who voted for Prop 8. Of course that white majority doesn't reflect on white people in general in anyway.

Just like white people (including 53% of white women) are responsible for Trump. But white people as community are never labelled homophobic. The fact is, going by the election results, the vast majority of white people are deplorables. Of the random white people I work with or meet on the street, I have to assume they're Trump supporters until they prove they're not. Numbers don't lie.

by Anonymousreply 131April 24, 2018 4:16 AM

I would LOVE to see MSNBC Joy Reid confront Ex-blogger Joy Reid when Ex-blogger goes, "Oh, oh, oh. I was hacked!" You just know that MSNBC Joy Reid would rake Ex-blogger Joy Reid over the coals.

by Anonymousreply 132April 24, 2018 4:16 AM

I am tired of how many African Americans are excused for their homophobia, racism and anti semitism.

by Anonymousreply 133April 24, 2018 4:17 AM

Examples, r133?

by Anonymousreply 134April 24, 2018 4:18 AM

r133, It isn't just African Americans. Also Muslims and liberal white people.

by Anonymousreply 135April 24, 2018 4:19 AM

[quote]Also Louis Farrakhan is not a bad person.

He is the absolute worse, anybody who still defends him is either brain dead or a racist right winger.

by Anonymousreply 136April 24, 2018 4:19 AM

There's nothing here, trolls. Back to fapping to your Orange Leader.

by Anonymousreply 137April 24, 2018 4:19 AM

R134 Start with Sharpton, Jackson, Ellison, Farrakhan. I'm sure you can add more if you really think about it.

by Anonymousreply 138April 24, 2018 4:20 AM

this is kind of what I'm talking about r127. again, not an indictment of all black politicians. A curiosity about why SOME black politicians want this guy's endorsement or give him theirs.

by Anonymousreply 139April 24, 2018 4:21 AM

Oh and Wright R134.

by Anonymousreply 140April 24, 2018 4:21 AM

Well Kim Kardashian apparently doesn't have a problem with Farrakhan either. Because she actually went to his house in Chicago and took a picture with him. And she's a mainstream entertainment figure.

So now what.

by Anonymousreply 141April 24, 2018 4:21 AM

[quote]Boy, if you said that shit to me you'd be dead on the spot.

by Anonymousreply 142April 24, 2018 4:24 AM

R97 Fine. Point taken.

But in what way does that disprove what I typed about Hollywood Street King? If your point was that there are many bigoted sites on the internets, well, duh. That wasn't the issue. The person I was addressing said that he did not know black women to be homophobes.

In an attempt to disabuse him of that, I suggested a site which proves otherwise.

If while on a site other than DL, someone were to state that "I do not know gay men to be openly hostile to women," I would naturally direct him here.

I see you have a bad case of "Well they do it TOO-ism.)

by Anonymousreply 143April 24, 2018 4:24 AM

Sorry, just because you are black doesn't mean you can get away with racism, anti semitism, homophobia, misogyny ...

Joy Reid, I give the benefit of a doubt, she's too smart to go down that road ... I think.

by Anonymousreply 144April 24, 2018 4:25 AM

R144

Smart isn’t a word I would use to describe Joy.

by Anonymousreply 145April 24, 2018 4:27 AM

Yes R129 and most whites don’t belong to the KKK and most black people don’t belong to The Nation of Islam. My point was that Farrakhan has a small following.

R128 if Farrakhan were a white and he reserved his bigotry for minorities. He could be president.

R138 I don’t recall Sharpton, Jackson or Farrakhan being elected or appointed to any public office.

by Anonymousreply 146April 24, 2018 4:28 AM

oh jesus fuck, r142, how many guns do you own? and how often have you voted for the gun nut candidate? please lecture everyone again about the horrors of liberal violence.

by Anonymousreply 147April 24, 2018 4:29 AM

R142, when faced with the reality of white supremacism - the only response is death. Milo is lucky he escaped with his life on Saturday. If I was at that pub I would have taken out my Glock and shot him dead and any cop who would try to stop me would be dead as well.

Examples, r144?

by Anonymousreply 148April 24, 2018 4:29 AM

R144 And its okay for whites to get away with shit as they have for centuries?

You do know our current president is TRUMP right? Please go look him up. He's getting away with everything. Just as white people do all the time. So please save the oh, blacks shouldn't be excused shit for someone else. We never get away with anything hardly.

Please go check history. It's not kind to white people.

by Anonymousreply 149April 24, 2018 4:30 AM

R144 the Republican Party runs on nothing but racism, homophobia and misogyny. But no if you’re black your chances of pulling the same stunts that Republicans pull and getting away with it, are slim to none.

by Anonymousreply 150April 24, 2018 4:31 AM

Most.White.People.Voted.Trump.

The end!

by Anonymousreply 151April 24, 2018 4:32 AM

[quote] I don’t recall Sharpton, Jackson or Farrakhan being elected or appointed to any public office.

R146 R133's original post was about African Americans being excused for their homophobia, racism and anti semitism. R134 requested examples. You are deflecting to the irrelevant rather than focusing on the subject.

by Anonymousreply 152April 24, 2018 4:32 AM

The wingnuts are coming after Joy, I see.

Because god knows they can't defend fuck-all in Trumplandia right now.

*long sigh*

Yeah I'm sure her homophobic statements are out there somewhere archived with Michelle Obama's "whitey" tape.

by Anonymousreply 153April 24, 2018 4:33 AM

R107 I would like to remind you that just days ago DL underwent some sort of reboot/clearing of all history. Most of us lost posting privileges as our visit history reset to zero visits. I only speak for myself, but I just regained my ability to post 2 hours ago(and may I add, I was elated!)

So it's really not that weird that others in this thread may have lost their history as well.

by Anonymousreply 154April 24, 2018 4:33 AM

it's not about who gets to get away with shit (okay it is somewhat). but it is really an honest curiosity. why do modern, intelligent, successful blacks want to have anything to do with Farrakhan, those that do. why is that?

by Anonymousreply 155April 24, 2018 4:33 AM

This thread has really turned into a mass shit storm.

Who gives a fuck what people who don't like Farrakhan thinks about him? So what? Even Oprah Winfrey went to Farrakhans March back in the 90s. We only distance ourselves from him publicly if it hurts our careers. Privately we fully support him. Just as I'm sure the Obamas still privately support the pastor Wright.

If whites can support TRUMP. Then blacks can support whoever we want as well.

by Anonymousreply 170April 24, 2018 4:48 AM

R152 you’re accusing me of deflecting from what exactly. They Farrakhan, Sharpton commentary was nothing but deflection. Sharpton and Jackson were held accountable and suffered the consequences for their choices. Just like any number of controversial whites, including the current attorney general. Farrakhan has never had enough of a mainstream following to even be worth discussing. The idea that blacks have been given a free pass and elevated in way that whites have not, is absurd. How long did Van Jones serve in the Obama Administration?

by Anonymousreply 171April 24, 2018 4:49 AM

r167, No, he's a far leftist who supported Bernie Sanders. He wasn't gonna support Hillary who screwed over the working class several times in the 90s and locked millions of black folks up.

by Anonymousreply 188April 24, 2018 5:02 AM

R181, as most of the regulars have already deduced, is the "I hope all old white racist fags die" troll. She is the one who threatens death in nearly every post(by her knife or by her Glock.)

She is also the Farrakhan/Rev Wright defender. Another DL just last week posted that she knows who she is, and if she doesn't cool it with the death threats and "fag" usage, she will reveal what she knows. The troll lives in a Chicago project which explains her fondness for Farrakhan and Wright.

Please F&F her. I hold hope that some day she will finally be permanently banned.

by Anonymousreply 189April 24, 2018 5:03 AM

But they didn't.

It's just alleged screencaps of parts of sentences here and there, no links and no pics of the entire post with the offending part in context. Nothing shows these screen grabs were even from the archive.

When a whole paragraph is shown, the tone of the underlined homophobic part doesn't jibe with the rest of the post. It's often parenthetical, too, and the justification of the right margin is sketchy in at least one of those screen grabs, as though text was added.

Some of it's not even homophobic. "Tom Cruise don't sue me" or "keeping it in the closet" are out of context and could mean anything. Looks like someone mixed in real noncontextual snippets with faked ones to try to give the accusation some weight.

But anyway, you guys need to stop acting like a jpg of five words is "really convincing."

Look at how Little KellyAnnE had a meltdown and attacked Dana Bash for asking about her husband's tweets that actually state FACTS about this presidency. This is what they DO. Attack the messengers. by Anonymousreply 230April 24, 2018 2:02 PM

Currently if you search for "Joy Reid" in google news, you'll see that only right and far-right websites are reporting Joy Reid's latest issue with alleged homophobia. (National Review, Twitchy, Brtbart News, etc.)

The only exception would be Mediaite.com which broke the story and sent questions to Reid about her defunct blog. That website was founded by Dan Abrams, and it does not appear to be labeled as mostly conservative or liberal-leaning.

But the conservative websites are running with the story. Here are the themes you will find in the articles AND the comment sections to their articles.

[quote] Right-wing crocodile tears over gays being maligned by a leftist.

I am tired of listening to the Farrakhan shit. He had Malcolm X murdered when Malcolm X left the black Muslims because their leader, Muhammed Elijah (or something like that) was having sex with underage girls. They wanted Malcolm X to rationalize that the leader had so much pressure on him it was OK. But Malcolm left and found true Islam and started preaching white and blacks have to learn to live together not apart (the Black Muslims wanted their own black state) as well as all religions. And they murdered him. His daughter decades later tried to take a hit out on Farrakhan but Farrakhan did a photo op with AL Sharpton , Jesse Jackson and her mom, Betty Shabazz, stating there was no attempted hit because there was no reason for anyone to want him dead. Shabazz saved her daughter from jail and the other three saved Farrakhan from any more speculation about his role in Malcolm's murder. He is a fucking shit. These rappers throw names of these people around and have no idea what they stood for. Read Malcolm's book. He would have problems with the lyrics about women, the break up of the family, and not going to school. He would feel like the rap culture was forced on them due to poverty and discrimination and they accepted it and did not fight it. He felt that way about the "Zoot Suit" culture in the 40s and the straightening of black hair. He was the original "black is beautiful" and knew the most rebellious act blacks could do was get an education. He would be horrified that for two decades rap has pushed the "only Uncle Tom's get educated". Do not mix him up with the previously mentioned ass holes and really, you need to read the book.

Among viewers 25-54, the demographic coveted by advertisers, AM Joy took its first victory over CNN, with 265,000 viewers to CNN's 244,000.

Prop 8 Myths

Certainly, the No on 8 folks might have done a better job of outreach to California’s black and Latino communities. But the notion that Prop 8 passed because of the Obama turnout surge is silly. Exit polls suggest that first-time voters — the vast majority of whom were driven to turn out by Obama (he won 83 percent [!] of their votes) — voted against Prop 8 by a 62-38 margin. More experienced voters voted for the measure 56-44, however, providing for its passage.

Now, it’s true that if new voters had voted against Prop 8 at the same rates that they voted for Obama, the measure probably would have failed. But that does not mean that the new voters were harmful on balance — they were helpful on balance. If California’s electorate had been the same as it was in 2004, Prop 8 would have passed by a wider margin.

Furthermore, it would be premature to say that new Latino and black voters were responsible for Prop 8’s passage. Latinos aged 18-29 (not strictly the same as ‘new’ voters, but the closest available proxy) voted against Prop 8 by a 59-41 margin. These figures are not available for young black voters, but it would surprise me if their votes weren’t fairly close to the 50-50 mark.

At the end of the day, Prop 8’s passage was more a generational matter than a racial one. If nobody over the age of 65 had voted, Prop 8 would have failed by a point or two. It appears that the generational splits may be larger within minority communities than among whites, although the data on this is sketchy.

r248 Um, nothing in that text refutes the fact that Blacks voted disproportionally for Prop 8 - all it shows is that the measure would still have passed if fewer Blacks and Latinos had voted. And by the way, polls still show that the situation hasn't changed - that the average Black person is as pro-gay as the average White Republican. Also, notice how the author, when trying to poke at the narrative that non-whites are disproportionately homophobic, only cites data from Young Latinos - apparently he couldn't bring up any group of Black people who voted mostly pro-gay.

Also, I hate this idea that when non-White people vote anti-gay, it's merely due to gay failure to reach out to them (to us, I could maybe say, as I'm Latino). That certain groups are highly homophobic is not our fault.

If White gays voted for a measure banning Black people from marrying, what do you think the media would blame - Black failure to reach out to White gays, or White gay racism?

r251 Precisely. If pro-Dem and gay websites are embargoing that story, then that's an indictment of theirs, not of the people who are covering it. It's proof of how much groupthink and tribalism there is in progressive publications.

And yeah yeah, I know right-wing outlets are the same, that if this was their guy, they wouldn't cover it, etc. But why would I care about this right now? If conservatives don't care about homofobia, then that means I shouldn't? I'm not going to excuse a supposed liberal for calling men like me pedos and child recruiters only because some hypothetical right-wing dude would get conservative support if he had done the same.

Plus, it's untrue that only right-wing sources have acknowledged the story.

But an analysis of precinct-level voting data on Prop. 8 from Alameda, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego and San Francisco counties, which are home to nearly two-thirds of California's black voters, suggested that African American support for Prop. 8 was more likely about 58 percent.

That support among blacks is still well above the 52 percent Prop. 8 received from all voters in the Nov. 4 election. Much of that can be attributed to the strong religious tradition in the black community, where 57 percent of African American voters attend church at least once a week, compared with 42 percent of Californians overall.

"The study debunks the myth that African Americans overwhelmingly and disproportionately supported Proposition 8," Andrea Shorter, director of And Marriage for All, said in a statement. "But we clearly have work to do with, within and for African American communities, particularly the black church."

Religious voters were among the leaders in the pro-Prop. 8 efforts, with 70 percent of weekly churchgoers backing the same-sex marriage ban. Among voters who hardly ever attended religious services, only 30 percent voted for Prop. 8.

by Anonymousreply 253April 24, 2018 9:27 PM

1.) The 70 percent figure for black support of Prop 8 is wildly overblown, and in conflict with all the other polling done. The study concludes that 58 percent is a more likely number. To put that in context, the study also concludes that 59 percent of Latinos supported prop 8. That isn't one-up-manship--it just means we were about the same.

2.) Black people almost certainly did not account for 10 percent of the voters on Prop 8, they accounted for seven percent

3.) 58 percent is still higher than the 52 percent for the state, as a whole, but that difference is almost entirely accounted for by the fact that no ethnic group in California is as religiously devout as (as measured by church attendance) African-Americans.

4.) Among those who attended church weekly, African-Americans were support for Prop 8 was lower than amongst any other ethnic group.

The faultiness of exit polling is well known. But when it comes to blacks, we believe the worse and ask questions, uhm, like never.

Look, my fight is clear. Homophobia is bad for my community. I support gay marriage because I believe it is a moral imperative, and the marker of a just society. I support it because, as a black man, I have seen first-hand the value of all kinds of family. In other words, it's in my interest. It's in my son's interest. It's a part of a world, that I hope to live in. But frankly, I have no use for people--gay, straight, white, red, rich, poor--who feel like black people "owe them." I have no use for people who like to trot out their history of supporting "black causes." I have no use for people who want to compare gay racism with black homophobia. With friends like those...

There are people in my business who took to the highest hills to decry the betrayal of black Californians, and to this day, are giddily noting that blacks sunk marriage equality in California, who foist the failure of marriage equality on seven percent of the electorate . I will not speculate on their motives. But let's see how loudly they address this study. Let's see how much ink we see spilled revisiting those assumptions. Or will it be on to the next calamity, where the blacks--or the Arabs, or the Latinos--can be trotted out and blamed for the failings of others. For the failings of us all.

People knew about Quincy and Michael. It's an open secret that black people joked about . It's a joke now that church choir directors are all Type A fussy gays.

Hip hop has partly gay origins too. It came from banjee boys/"trade" butch guys in NYC. Homeless gay teenage black/Latinos in the inner city that were breakdancing and rapping over looped beats. This is how Wendy Williams got a career: outing the closeted black entertainers in NYC hip hop, r&b, and sometimes gospel who were playing straight to fool female audiences.

Going back to the Harlem Renaissance, black gays have been contributing to Af. Am arts, music, and literature. One of MLK's closest friends, Bayard Rustin, was a gay black man and civil rights activist.

Yes, I don't like MSNBC. I don't care to hide that. I'm a Bernie Bro and MSNBC is the house of the Clinton cult and Russian national hysteria. Again, I don't care to hide any of that.

And what I said is absolutely right. If a Republican or Bernie supporter had said what she said, you'd all be eating them alive.

You're treating that unhinged homophobe with kid's gloves because you think she is on your team. But considering she thinks you all are a bunch of disgusting pedophiles, she is probably not.

[quote] One of MLK's closest friends, Bayard Rustin, was a gay black man and civil rights activist.

Rustin was more his mentor than anything as he was an activist decades before King. King dropped him when Rustin being gay became a weapon. He was a great man who deserved better than what he got.

[quote] In 1960, King and Rustin planned to stage a demonstration at the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles. Adam Clayton Powell, the Congressman from Harlem, feared the demonstrations would undermine his own power. Powell called King and told him to cancel the demonstrations, threatening to "reveal" that King and Rustin were having an affair. There was no affair, but King capitulated and Rustin resigned, forced out of the movement he had helped create.

ACTUAL Homophobes like Roy Moore aren't in the god damned Senate *specifically* due to black people. You will do anything to pretend that the anti-gay movement in this country isn't headed by white, Christian conservatives and their Republican-dominated statehouses. Pence thinks gays should be dead, but please keep think Reid is the one who is a threat. She's an idiot, but spare me the attempt to pretend she's the threat

by Anonymousreply 277April 24, 2018 10:00 PM

R273, No, I guess not. I suppose there are just as many closeted white entertainers in Hollywood, and closeted religious fundies. Ted Haggard comes to mind.

I guess I just don't understand why other minorities ( black, Latino, or Asian) people would be homophobic. You would think fellow oppressed minorities would have more empathy. I wouldn't expect any empathy from a white straight conservative Republican male.

I feel black gays have it especially hard. You have to combat homophobia from the black community, and racism from the white gay community.

Stop crying, sweetheart, your washing your make-up off and I can see your wrinkles.

[quote]Keep ignoring the comments like "gorilla."

That person is despicable. But for all we know, he was lashing out and reacting from a place of hurt, because Joy's comments are truly over the top. Are you going to pretend you've never said anything disgusting in a moment of anger at being the target of someone else's provocations? We don't know if this is something he would have said had he not been exposed to Joy's homophobia. Her comments were the cause, his was the effect. So let's not pretend that the story here is gay men being mean. She started this. This story is about her.

by Anonymousreply 280April 24, 2018 10:04 PM

[quote]ACTUAL Homophobes like Roy Moore aren't in the god damned Senate *specifically* due to black people.

"Actual homophobe" as compared to whom? Joy Reid? Why is Joy not an actual homophobe? How is saying "gay men are immorally recruiting young teens" not true homophobia for God's sake?

[quote]You will do anything to pretend that the anti-gay movement in this country isn't headed by white, Christian conservatives and their Republican-dominated statehouses.

When did this become about Black people? This is about JOY. Most Black people don't probably think gay men are trying to lure their 14 year old sons into the sin of Sodom. But she does. She said so.

[quote]Pence thinks gays should be dead, but please keep think Reid is the one who is a threat. She's an idiot, but spare me the attempt to pretend she's the threat

The fact that there are much bigger homophobes doesn't mean we should put up with medium-fry ones. Some of us can walk and talk at the same time, idiot.

If you don't care that Joy says we're pedos, fine. But I care about that. It's my right to take offense at being demonized by a national pundit. Let me deal with what she said in my own way. I'm not trying to drag you into caring about anything, but don't interfere with those of us who care.

by Anonymousreply 283April 24, 2018 10:12 PM

R281, WTF is wrong with you? Are you even reading this thread? Did you ask the people blaming Prop 8 on black people why they are? Did you call them out for the racism? That's who my responses are TO. You keep insisting on responding to my posts as if I'm addressing whatever nonsense you've said. I'm specifically going after the people who insist on making this about ALL black people (per usual for DL).

by Anonymousreply 284April 24, 2018 10:13 PM

R281 you have no way of knowing what Joy actually said or if she was indeed hacked. No of us do. So other than delighting conservatives and scratching another item off their agenda. This crusade to immediately take another liberal down will accomplish what exactly?

by Anonymousreply 285April 24, 2018 10:14 PM

R282, good point. POC and LGBT solidarity brought out the best genre of music: disco.

Prop 8 doesn't have a damn thing to do with Joy Reid, nor the hypocrisy of posters and media who want to sweep it under the rug.

by Anonymousreply 292April 24, 2018 10:25 PM

[quote]WTF is wrong with you? Are you even reading this thread?

You're so hypocritcal.

You said that Joy Reid -- one of the most prominent journalists in America -- is not a big enough threat for you to worry about.

But at the same time, you're splitting hairs because of what some anonymous DL users have posted here.

Neither Datalounge as a whole, or individual posters here, are as influential as Joy is. If you think you can look past her extreme homophobia because she's not importante enough, then you can also ignore some anonymous posts about Prop 8 that you disliked.

by Anonymousreply 293April 24, 2018 10:25 PM

Wow 289, From Conservative News Today , no less. Has Conservative News Today seen the Republican Party platform, or the anti gay legislation making its way through Republican controlled legislatures.

Again, [[R281]] you have no way of knowing what Joy actually said or if she was indeed hacked. None of us do. So other than delighting conservatives and scratching another item off their agenda. by Anonymousreply 294April 24, 2018 10:26 PM

[quote]you have no way of knowing what Joy actually said or if she was indeed hacked.

1 - She has a long history with homophobia.

2 - She has already recognized some of it.

3 - Her newly unearthed posts are similar in contente and style to some of the things she said before.

4 - Wayback Machine is all but saying she lied about getting hacked.

Sounds like good enough evidence against her to me.

(Plus, why would anyone give themselves the trouble of writing acres of text to frame Joy? There are much bigger fish out there regardless of where you sit on the political spectrum.)

by Anonymousreply 295April 24, 2018 10:28 PM

[quote]Even if that were true and we don't know that it is

The evidence is strong that it is. And it is clear that even if she fessed up, you'd still be defending her on the idiotic grounds that she's not as bad as Pence. Like I said... if you think there are bigger fish out there, and that you don't want to waste your time on Joy, that is fine. But why defend her? Why troll people who are bothered by what they read and speaking out about it? Just admit that you're a hypocrite who doesn't believe in accountability for people of your political tribe.

[quote]But he changed and became a valuable advocate for equality.

For God's sake, how has Joy shown that she's changed? What has she ever done for us? Even before this blew out, she never came across as someone who is closely allied to us.

Someone who's said that "Soviet Yugoslavia" was an actual country which existed and that Slovakia was a part of it.

by Anonymousreply 333April 24, 2018 11:30 PM

This reminds me a bit of the “no asians or blacks” debate. People who support those limits in personals/Grindr say it’s just being honest and you can’t help how you feel. You’re actually helping them people you’re not interested in by steering them away from silent rejection.

Joy I guess would just say she’s being honest and can’t help her bias as it’s ingrained.

I’m not a big fan of the position that we need to air biases. In the example of the Grindr ads, the hurt at being rejected because of your skin color and/or ethnicity outweighs the “help” in responding only to ads of guys who like your “type.”

I feel the same way about airing your distaste at homosexual affection and then claiming you’re transparent and admitting your flaws. Joy would jump all over someone who said “I guess this makes me racist, but seeing a jet black man kissing a blonde woman like Heidi Klum makes my stomach turn and my skin crawl.” Do we really need that kind of “honesty” in public discourse? No.

by Anonymousreply 334April 24, 2018 11:37 PM

Um, the Wayback Machine did not refute Reid's story. Their post just claimed that the posts were not altered directly on their site. Was anyone even claiming that? The claim was that they were altered on the blog page. I don't quite understand the robots.txt part of it though. That works ex post facto? How? The archive already exists. I thought robots.text just stopped additional crawls of the site. Plus, if the site was already defunct as of last December, how would a script have been added? NY Times is late in discovering the news:

Joy Reid Blames Hackers for Anti-Gay Blog Posts, but Questions Mount

Back in November, when a series of homophobic posts on her defunct, decade-old blog resurfaced on social media, the MSNBC host Joy Reid apologized for them. But this week, when Ms. Reid was confronted with a new batch of homophobic writings from that same period, she said she had been the victim of hackers.

That claim was called into question on Tuesday, when the Internet Archive, the meticulous online record-keeping nonprofit that hosted the archived version of her site, said it had found no evidence to support her claim. Ms. Reid did not respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.

The latest group of alleged blog posts includes a great deal of material that might embarrass a prominent liberal figure like Ms. Reid, including expressions of disgust at the thought of homosexuality, opposition to gay marriage, claims that gay men prey on “impressionable teens” and criticism of political correctness.

“Most straight people cringe at the sight of two men kissing,” one post said. It later concluded: “The nature of political correctness is that gay people are allowed to say straight sex is gross but the reverse is considered to be patently homophobic.”

One of the posts also criticizes Rachel Maddow, who is now the most-watched host on MSNBC, as being “at the left-most end of the political spectrum” when it comes to gay rights. (Ms. Reid hosts a weekend morning show on MSNBC, but at the time she kept her blog active neither she nor Ms. Maddow had shows on the network.)

by Anonymousreply 352April 25, 2018 1:34 AM

Ha, at least she says Rush Limbaugh and Karl Rove are closet cases

sounds like she reads DL!

What kind of kompromat does Putin have on the NY Times, hmmm?

by Anonymousreply 354April 25, 2018 1:44 AM

I hope madcow kicks her black cunt

by Anonymousreply 355April 25, 2018 1:50 AM

Maddow should interview her, let's find out who she really is.

Hell, if somebody would isolate all the posts I made on DL, I am sure somebody could manipulate them, take them out of context and say I am a homophobe - which of course I am absolutely fucking NOT!!!

The more I read about this story the more I think this is a deliberate hit job to take down another popular anti Trump voice. Russia is probably behind this, hacking for dirt on democrats again.

Can't wait to see the tricks that they have planned for the midterms and the 2020 election.

by Anonymousreply 359April 25, 2018 2:04 AM

They took away her award. LOL

by Anonymousreply 360April 25, 2018 2:16 AM

If she lied (IF), then this story is bigger than just the lie. It would involve filing a false report with the FBI to cover her embarrassment and to protect her career.

That's something worthy of Donald Trump, the guy she mercilessly attacks. Although I personally support the outing of Donald Trump as a liar, what am I to make of Joy Reid potentially doing the same thing she ridicules him about on her show? So her old defunct blog may be the least of her problems IF she is lying about the hacking.

by Anonymousreply 361April 25, 2018 2:16 AM

Yeah, if they are real she should have said, yeah I said stupid stuff who hasn't etc. Maybe she panicked or got bad advice?

by Anonymousreply 371April 25, 2018 3:04 AM

Huff Post reports this (4/24/18 9:32 pm):

[quote] MSNBC’s Joy Reid is standing by her claim that her now-defunct blog was the target of a cyber attack in which homophobic content was added to the site.

[quote] A cybersecurity expert working with Reid said in a statement to HuffPost on Tuesday that he found evidence five months ago of “suspicious activity” and that the alleged hacking was the subject of an ongoing federal investigation.

[quote] Jonathan Nichols, identified as an independent security consultant by a representative for MSNBC, said the posts in question had been “entered with suspicious formatting and time stamps.”....

[quote] A representative for Reid’s MSNBC show also told HuffPost on Monday that the alleged hacking was subject to a federal investigation. The MSNBC representative did not comment on which agency was investigating the matter when HuffPost asked. Nor did the FBI immediately respond to a request for confirmation of such an investigation.

I knew Joy in Miami a decade ago - she was supportive progressive then, down with multiculturalism, just smart and thoughtful thinker. She is one of the most popular MSNBC anchors- she is the Alt-White’s target. Time to wakeup DL’ers dont do the haters biding.

If anyone should be a target of alt-right hacking, it would be Rachel Maddow. Rachel is a much bigger star. Her raving lunacy about Russia far outclasses Joy's. Before this blew out, Joy was dusty and kind of forgotten. She is probably thankful about this controversy coming up now.

"That butch dyke, now I'm far outdoing her on Google Trends!!!", Reid is thinking.

The award from PFLAG has been rescinded. Now go play in some traffic you evil homophobic bigot.

by Anonymousreply 403April 25, 2018 7:57 AM

I think the thing which is the most disturbing to me now is the sizable group of defenders on Twitter who are saying, "Don't fall for this! Don't you know that the right wing nut jobs have put this out there because she is so important to the resist movement?"

How is she so important to the progressive movement if she believestwo men kissing is gross, and she agreed with Tim Hardaway? I am in the sports business, and when the Hardaway story broke all those years ago, even the most Neanderthal flag waving Deplorable jocks immediately shunned him. I mean, if a Gronkowski type meat head knows what Hardaway said was poison and career suicide, how could a supposedly brilliant progressive go along with it?

And exactly why are the resist proponents on Twitter okay with what she did? I have to ask the question, "Are THEY themselves secretly okay with it as long as she helps push Trump out?" Maybe they are a bit less progressive than they think.

by Anonymousreply 404April 25, 2018 8:08 AM

I just spent almost 30 minutes reading the PFLAG twitter page comments re: rescinding the award.

And I can see what this is turning into, both here, and on Twitter. The positive comments are outweighing the negative comments at a 1:10 ratio right now; but the disturbing element is that, like here at DL, the issue is split by racial identity.

The black tweeters are furious with PFLAG and they are all declaring this to be a racist act. They did not go quite as far as our racist bi female troll, but they were equally as accusatory.

I understand that black L&G people put their racial identity above their sexual orientation identity, but does that have to blind them to what is as clear as the nose on one's face? How can a rational person believe that this is racially motivated? What point would that serve?

I fear things are about to get ugly.

by Anonymousreply 405April 25, 2018 8:48 AM

They're saying that a white person who had unverified accusations against them wouldn't get their award taken away at such an early stage before anything was proven.

You, on the other hand, are spouting off about how "those blacks always behave in this way because of their race," which sounds a hell of a lot more like race-baiting than anything I've seen from black people tweeting about this.

Thanks PLFAG Just a note of thanks for showing some integrity and calling out a fraudulent public figure. Much respect

by Anonymousreply 412April 25, 2018 12:21 PM

She did address it previously.

This time, she both denies it AND reported it to the FBI. It would have been so much simpler for her to just say "yes, that's part of the way I used to think, just like we talked about before. These are 13 years old, even older than the tweets I apologized for. I've moved on and grown, and my apology stands." Instead, she's fighting it and alerted authorities about it back in December.

That's one of the big reasons why I'm not convinced of the authenticity here. There is no way it makes sense for her to fight this unless they are faked.

by Anonymousreply 416April 25, 2018 1:39 PM

Joy Reid is not ethnically African American. She is racially, but her parents were immigrants from Guyana and Congo, not American blacks. She's Afro-Caribbean.

Now I definitely believe it. She is homophobic.

by Anonymousreply 417April 25, 2018 1:43 PM

She would have weathered this if she had owned up to it. The hacking story/timeline doesn't make any sense from a tech perspective—and her lying about it is what will bring her down.

And it kinda makes me mad that she wrote that she refused to go "Broke Back Mountain" because of the gay storyline. It's "Brokeback Mountain," girl! One word! If you're gonna be a bigot, at least get it right!

by Anonymousreply 418April 25, 2018 1:51 PM

Yawn. Everything is abut race to some people.

by Anonymousreply 419April 25, 2018 2:00 PM

If you really understood these things from a "tech perspective" you'd realize it made sense. Hack the blog, edit in some more homophobic stuff, then wait until the Wayback Machine bot archives the old posts, making it look like they've been there for years. The Wayback Machine archive bot takes months to archive things sometimes, so he has to wait. That's why he didn't reveal the finds until a few days ago, because they weren't in the Wayback until recently. The bot hadn't crawled the old Reid Report site yet, and you can't just ask Wayback to crawl your site like you can with Google, you have to wait until it does it on its own. Once it did, suddenly he could reveal more homophobic stuff.

This is the same guy who revealed the Reid Report posts back in December, remember. Ask yourself why this guy didn't point out all the homophobic content in December, and instead held some back until April. How does that make sense to you? From a "tech perspective"?

I mean, most of you are just going to believe whatever you want. That's what everyone does nowadays anyway, so enjoy, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 420April 25, 2018 2:02 PM

Joy Reid is not a homophobe. This is a hit job pure and simple and those of you who are foolish enough to believe it should be ashamed of yourselves. This is so much like Al Franken, even some of the posts on this thread are similar to the posts in the Al Franken threads. You people are good, I'll give you that. No wonder you were able to steal an election. American are too stupid to realize when they're being played.

by Anonymousreply 421April 25, 2018 2:02 PM

And can we shut down these fuckers who track their dirt all over this thread with their Faux outrage trying to stir shit and build a phony consensus?

by Anonymousreply 424April 25, 2018 2:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 425April 25, 2018 2:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 426April 25, 2018 2:09 PM

But if she is lying about being hacked, then that I can't really forgive.

by Anonymousreply 429April 25, 2018 2:15 PM

Hundreds of threads defending a homophobe.

by Anonymousreply 430April 25, 2018 2:16 PM

[quote] That's one of the big reasons why I'm not convinced of the authenticity here. There is no way it makes sense for her to fight this unless they are faked.

There's definitely something about this that smells of a coordinated campaign (either by the right wing, or by the far left pissed at Joy for supporting Hillary, or a combination of both) to ruin Joy and her career. All of this originates from screenshots posted by a Twitter user (@Jamie_Maz), who lists his name as "Not a bot" and has never been identified as anything other than "a Twitter user." Do we know anything at all about him and his motives? Why is he obsessed with dredging up years-old posts from Joy's now-defunct blog? Why doesn't he come forward and fully identify himself and explain his motives? Why does everyone just take a random Twitter user at his word? Why isn't anyone making any attempt to find out more about who this random Twitter user is and why he's so fixated on Joy's old blog posts?

And as soon as these threads appeared on DL, trolls who have never posted in any other DL threads immediately swooped in to fill the threads with post after post about what a bigoted, homophobic person Joy is and criticism of MSNBC, Farrakhan, and everything else. More than half of the posts in this thread are from trolls.

by Anonymousreply 431April 25, 2018 2:17 PM

Absolutely, R427. You can go out and pick the date to look at. So if there's a post from 2005, I can go to the Wayback link and choose, say, June 2012, or August 2008, and compare the two versions of that old 2005 post.

All this guy would have had to do is hack, wait for the April 2018 version on Wayback, screenshot it, and say "well it was in the archive."

That's why this guy hasn't been showing us the dates -- I'd bet you anything that if we saw the date of the Wayback archive, it would be sometime in 2018, i.e. the archived version showing the new hacked content.

And because Reid Report turned off archiving with their robots.txt, that archived version would have been removed along with all other archived versions. That means we can't compare the 2018 archive versus an earlier archive. She was trying to prevent the hacker content from being archived, but in doing so prevented us from being able to compare the archives ourselves to verify that this content was indeed on Wayback years ago and not just recently.

Yeah, R431, it's interesting that so many people are outraged today by this when they weren't outraged at all back in December when this first came up, when she admitted it and apologized.

by Anonymousreply 435April 25, 2018 2:20 PM

R420 but Joy Reid’s lawyer asked Wayback Machine to remove the site in December claiming that posts had been inserted in the archive.

by Anonymousreply 436April 25, 2018 2:21 PM

The "homophobic" Chris Christie complaints were bullshit I don't think she should have apologized for them r435.

by Anonymousreply 437April 25, 2018 2:21 PM

R435 but it's a completely different accusation now, these alleged posts are way more inflammatory than calling some male politician "Miss" (or whatever it was).

But I don't think she wrote them.

by Anonymousreply 438April 25, 2018 2:22 PM

[quote]Why isn't anyone making any attempt to find out more about who this random Twitter user is and why he's so fixated on Joy's old blog posts?

It reminds me of some BernieBro who posted a photo a few months ago of a DNC fundraising mailer he got, which he claimed was made to look like a past due notice.

No one else got one, he "threw it away" and couldn't show more photos of it, the picture itself was pretty sketchy, he couldn't explain how he got the fundraising letter when he wasn't a registered Dem, he blocked anyone who questioned him, AND he was just some random Twitter guy. Yet the media ran with it, saying the DNC was evil for making poor people think they were getting a past due notice.

Really pissed me off that the DNC didn't fight back on it, but now that I see how Reid is being treated when she fights back, I understand.

by Anonymousreply 439April 25, 2018 2:23 PM

435, The only person she was going after in the posts unearthed in December was Charlie Criss. Why exactly would we defend Charlie Criss??

What she wrote in these posts is much more inflammatory. And sounds suspiciously like views expressed in not yet deleted tweets. .

by Anonymousreply 440April 25, 2018 2:24 PM

R440 link to tweets please

by Anonymousreply 441April 25, 2018 2:25 PM

[quote]these alleged posts are way more inflammatory than calling some male politician "Miss"

Some, maybe. A lot of it is literally 4-5 words taken out of context, like "don't sue me Tom Cruise" or "keep it in the closet." What does that even mean out of context?

And the post about "famous heterosexuals who are definitely not gay" seems to actually refer to an old Rotten . Com website from 2004, not something from Reid Report. It's like someone took an old Rotten post and added it to Reid Report, or maybe screen captured some post where SHE quoted Rotten's article.

R420 is right on the money. Here is the thing, when the first posts came out about Charlie Crist do you really think that person would have just stopped at the Charlie Crist posts? Why not reveal all then? When the story first broke about Charlie Crist, don't you think other groups and news organizations didn't comb through that blog looking for more dirt? This idea of new found posts, how does that even pass the smell test. It can't.

[quote]I am getting annoyed with all the cunts on twitter that are using Joy's race as a shield. We really do come way lower on the progressive totem pole than I originally thought.

Because the objective was to turn it into a black versus gays thing.

by Anonymousreply 446April 25, 2018 2:37 PM

[quote]I am getting annoyed with all the cunts on twitter that are using Joy's race as a shield.

Can you blame them when so many of the attacks on her are about her race? In situation that has nothing to do with race, it was immediately made about race. Because race-baiting is everything to internet trolls.

by Anonymousreply 447April 25, 2018 2:38 PM

r445, You're trying to shut the subject down by making it about race. You're completely obvious. Fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 448April 25, 2018 2:38 PM

r447, Nope. This is about Joy's homophobia. Has nothing to do with her race whatsoever.

by Anonymousreply 449April 25, 2018 2:40 PM

[quote]When the story first broke about Charlie Crist, don't you think other groups and news organizations didn't comb through that blog looking for more dirt?

Seriously. You can't tell me that not ONE other rightwinger or troll or BernieBro went through her blog archives with a fine-tooth comb back in December. You can't convince me that no journalist or blogger didn't go through archives searching for something incriminating.

by Anonymousreply 450April 25, 2018 2:40 PM

Joy Reid had no problem holding Bernie accountable for his early blogging.Just saying.

by Anonymousreply 451April 25, 2018 2:43 PM

R449 we know what it’s about. The point was that many of the people commenting (here and elsewhere) have made racially disparaging remarks.

451 Reid had know problem being held accountable for her blogs, the ones that she actually wrote. “Just saying.”

by Anonymousreply 452April 25, 2018 2:45 PM

R451 which is why this makes no sense that she would knowingly have those posts on her own blog.

by Anonymousreply 453April 25, 2018 2:46 PM

r453, the posts were made YEARS ago. She long ago deleted them. Long before she knew she would be on TV attacking people for doing what she was doing.

r452, I'm not convinced the "racially disparaging" remarks didn't come from people like you so they could then use her race as a shield. once again, racists and Russians didn't make her write all that bigoted crap on her site years ago. That's all on Joy.

I just find her annoyingly unwatchable for some reason and not sure why. Has nothing to do with her blog, but anyone else feel this way?

by Anonymousreply 456April 25, 2018 2:53 PM

I think Joy is great and I hoped she’d replace Chris Matthews some day. I could have forgiven her old comments if she owned them and said she’s been enlightened since. But I’m afraid if she lied about the hacking, she’s really screwed the pooch.

by Anonymousreply 457April 25, 2018 2:58 PM

"This idea of new found posts, how does that even pass the smell test. It can't"

Look at this point if the posts were inserted in December - it would have been discovered within the past 24 hours. Just because you're rationalizing it all - sayin she "HAD" to be hacked - sorry, don't buy it.

Every computer geek would have proven a hacking in the Wayward machine within the past 24 hours if that was the case.

Honestly, I don't think people cared enough about Joy back in December (right wingers) to delve into her homophobia even more. She's NOT THAT INTERESTING. She still isn't. If this twitter user discovered her to have actually wrote those things then I'm glad that homophobic bitch has been outed. Glad PFLAG isn't buying her bullshit either.

by Anonymousreply 458April 25, 2018 2:58 PM

Um, Al Franken was not a hit job, no matter how much you try to convince yourselves otherwise. There are pictures. He admitted to groping women. Period.

by Anonymousreply 459April 25, 2018 2:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 460April 25, 2018 3:01 PM

sorry 458. Auto correct.

by Anonymousreply 461April 25, 2018 3:06 PM

Personally I’m not offended by the idea that straight men think gay sex or gay men kissing is “gross”, no matter who actually wrote it. That’s the truth about how many straight men an woman feel. Just like many gay men think vaginas are gross or lesbian sex is gross. Stating what we know to be true about other people’s feelings does not offend me. If you said some people think Chinese people are gross because some eat dogs or some people think African dark skin is gross. That is the truth about the way some people feel. And many heterosexuals believe that gays are predators. It’s ignorant, stupid and unfortunate that people believe such things but it is what many believe.

R454 the racial attacks are not new here or unique. And no one claims to know who did the hacking. So you can stop jumping up and down about Russia. There are more than enough American right wingers making mischief on the internet; no one is claiming it was your precious Russia.

No one has all of the answers and you certainly don’t. The question is why are you so overly obsessively compulsively invested in this?

by Anonymousreply 465April 25, 2018 3:11 PM

Her posts were archived TEN YEARS AGO. Wayback says they were NOT HACKED. Her supposed “security expert” is a charlatan. What are you people not getting about this? These are facts. Desperately clinging onto some false Russian bot hacking hope for some homophobic fifth rate commentator on MSNBC is bizarre, at best.

Let it go.

by Anonymousreply 466April 25, 2018 3:11 PM

R466 the majority of the posts in this thread belong to you. Why? Why have you all of suddenly devoted your life to filling up threads about Joy Reid. Why? What’s your motive?

by Anonymousreply 467April 25, 2018 3:15 PM

And no one claimed that she was hacked by Russia. We don’t know who did the hacking. What part of that are you not getting. As you continue to fill the thread up.

by Anonymousreply 468April 25, 2018 3:18 PM

He's constantly calling people "hysterical" and "queens" in this thread, R468. I think his agenda is pretty clear.

No matter how many times we say Wayback wasn't hacked, he'll claim that's what we're saying. No matter how many times we say we never thought it was the Russians, he'll say we're blaming the Russians.

He's useless and a troll.

by Anonymousreply 469April 25, 2018 3:22 PM

Exactly. Everyone seems to be putting 100% trust in screen shots posted (more than 10 years after the fact) by one anonymous Twitter user who calls himself "Not a bot" and hasn't revealed anything about his true identity and motives. Furthermore, nobody seems to even be ASKING who this Twitter user is, what his background is, and why he is so obsessed with Joy's blog posts from over a decade ago. It's going to take more than a highly suspicious crusade by an anonymous Twitter user to convince me that Joy is a homophobe.

by Anonymousreply 477April 25, 2018 4:00 PM

r473, Fuck you. There are womens sites across the web that make fun of gay men. God forbid a gay site make fun of female decorators. You wouldn't have a bug up your ass if a woman wrote "gay men are horrible decorators" and you know it. You're just a hypocritical leftist that thinks it's acceptable for people to bash gays as long as long as they are Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 478April 25, 2018 4:00 PM

by Anonymousreply 480April 25, 2018 4:04 PM

Joy's story is clearly fake:

r482 None, because that was the first time I post that, dummy.

by Anonymousreply 483April 25, 2018 4:17 PM

for the people saying "no one cares about Joy Reid enough to sabotage her" that is wrong. She has over 1 million followers and is the most prominent black woman in cable news. Of course right wingers would love to take her down. She's also done segments highlighting the bullshit and lies that come out of Hannity, Pirro and other evil Fox hosts' mouths.

by Anonymousreply 484April 25, 2018 4:21 PM

The part that makes me want to give her the benefit of the doubt is the part where she supposedly says that she doesn’t want to see attractive men having sex. Isn’t that something a straight man would say? Women would be totally into it unless it’s their boyfriend.

by Anonymousreply 485April 25, 2018 4:24 PM

Hmmm, it appears the content Joy had already apologized for before were unearthed by the same person who brought up the "newest" batch of posts:

"The claim was met with plenty of skepticism, at least in part because Reid had already apologized in December for other years-old anti-gay posts that appeared on the blog, which were found by the same Twitter user, @Jamie_Maz, who also unearthed this week's posts through the Wayback Machine."

The CNN article below -- written after her "expert" came to her defense -- also reeks of skepticism:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 486April 25, 2018 4:28 PM

No R485 most women probably don’t want to see 2 men have sex. And most gay men probably don’t want to see 2 women have sex. We can be honest about that. And if you don’t believe ask a few random straight women. And ask some straight men what they think about watching gay men kiss or have sex?

by Anonymousreply 487April 25, 2018 4:30 PM

[quote] which were found by the same Twitter user, @Jamie_Maz

Again, the whole campaign against her is orchestrated by one anonymous Twitter user. And nobody in the media asks who this Twitter user is, what his motives are, and why he's so obsessed with destroying Joy and her career. That's just irresponsible.

All people posting stuff in her defense are of her political tribe - they're all rancid Hillary cultists with a record of tempering with the truth themselves.

Plus, it's very telling those people don't say she's quite innocent- they say "her voice is important", as if being important were a measure of innocence.

Like the poster below said:

"Bear in mind that the point of a tweet like this isn't to establish JAR's innocence, but to signal that elites still support her and to encourage them to circle the wagons."

This is what media personalities do when one of them is under fire. Sean Hannity and Bill Maher also had their own defense squad when they were being cornered.

Just having friends is not proof of being innocent.

One of Reid's lawyer's arguments in her favor is that some of the entries are too lengthy to have been written by her.

"Ms. Reid did not have the superhuman blogging skills needed to do all of these posts simultaneously," Reichman wrote.

But this is how CNN described one of the "lengthy" entries:

[quote]A Library of Congress archive of the site shows that the "lengthy" entry contains only two sentences of text actually written by the post's author; the rest is a quote.

Even CNN is calling her experts liars.

by Anonymousreply 507April 25, 2018 4:58 PM

This thread is just like the Al Franken threads right after the "incriminating" photos of Franken went public. Immediately, the threads filled with hundreds of posts from people (mostly the same dozen or so posting repeatedly) saying, "I'm a lifelong liberal and I loved Al Franken, but this makes me sick! I can never support the man again." And anyone who dared to question the authenticity of the photos or the motives of the people trying to discredit Franken was immediately shot down. "None of that matters! All of that matters is that Franken is a sick man who hates women! He needs to resign immediately!" Clearly, Franken had done some stupid things, but most of the posts on DL just didn't ring true. They were so over-the-top and the outrage was so out of proportion with the reality of the situation that it was obvious we were witnessing an orchestrated campaign to turn liberals against Franken. And it worked.

Now, we're seeing exactly the same strategy being used to bring down Joy Reid.

by Anonymousreply 510April 25, 2018 5:06 PM

Read r505. It's clear MSNBC isn't even trying to make sense when defending her. They're just stringing words together as a token exercise in pseudo-explanation, hoping the rest of the media will take whatever they write at face value and not research things more deeply.

As Glenn Greenwald said: "Joy has a lot of friends in the media and they don't care in the slightest if she's lying. That's what MSNBC is counting on."

by Anonymousreply 511April 25, 2018 5:08 PM

And it worked. Now, we're seeing exactly the same strategy being used to bring down Joy Reid.

And as long as liberals continue to take the bait. Conservatives are going to continue doing this. Just imagine what the midterms and the 2020 presidential election will be like. Imagine how many people they've already cooked up plans to take down with this same strategy.

by Anonymousreply 512April 25, 2018 5:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 513April 25, 2018 5:14 PM

[quote]Again, the whole campaign against her is orchestrated by one anonymous Twitter user.

No, it was not "orchestrated" by him, you retard. He merely posted the screen shots. This is not the same thing as orchestrating a conspiracy. He's been posting Reid's posts since November last year. He decided to do repeat a few days ago, and got lucky that a Mediaite journalist decided to pick up on the story. Then other media outlets started doing the same, first the right-wing ones, then the liberal ones. This is not a conspiracy.

And considering that Joy already apologized for some of the stuff he revealed - the lighter stuff - it doesn't seem he's changing anyone's posts.

[quote]And nobody in the media asks who this Twitter user is, what his motives are, and why he's so obsessed with destroying Joy and her career. That's just irresponsible.

Many users on Twitter don't post their personal pictures, including many in Clinton Cult Twitter.

Anyway, from his profile, he seems to be a DSA type. Joy Reid hates them. So he hates her back. It's normal and natural.

But in any case, who he is and what his motives are, have no impact on the true issue here - Joy's posts. He probably also hates Fox News, but you wouldn't be doubting his screen shots if his posts had been about Sean Hannity.

Incidentally, Joy's cyber security guy has locked down his own social media - hm, that's a good sign, right? And also describes himself as "former psyops". His username is wvualphasoldier - christ, by that username alone he sounds like a huge douche.

Having looked through the screen caps as originally tweeted (which I encourage everyone to do via a link in the article I posted at OP), I think it is unlikely these scattered comments were planted by someone seeking to discredit Joy. They are not inflammatory enough. I would not characterize the comments as unusually homophobic. Rather they reflect a certain discomfort with the homosex and a desire to distance the Democratic Party from advocacy for gay marriage and repeal of DADT out of fear that these issue would alienate part of the base . In short, a fairly common attitude among moderate democrats at the time. Then there is a fascination with the gay/not gay celebrity game which was also prevalent right here at the time (and remains so).

If Reid did write these things, she could certainly have weathered the tempest in a tea room that would follow their disclosure.

Which makes the hacking claim especially tragic if, as I now suspect, it is false. The cover-up being worse than the crime strikes again.

by Anonymousreply 531April 25, 2018 7:34 PM

I don't care what we say on here - we are talking about ourselves. And being snarky. Like when blacks use the N word, or women call each other bitches in fun. And I don't care who is doing what here, only what the truth is. That's all. She relies on our support and I want to know the truth and what she has said and the extent of it. She is a journalist, she does not get to publicly engage in pointless bitchery at our expense. If she has changed her mind about things, she should say it.

Stop saying blacks supported Prop 8. The majority, and they were women, did not. That was clear from polls at the time. Homophobia (due to religion) is a huge problem for gay men in the black community. Don't pretend it doesn't exist. I am the one from Austin that first brought up the problem of religious black women. Austin is liberal, but I am telling you, even the black liberal women I know and work with are just grossed out by two men and find it against God and Jesus the Savior. You have no idea. It is ingrained in them, there is so much going on with it. They don't care as much about lesbians because Leviticus said man shall not lie with another man, they don't think lesbian sex is "real" sex, and it is just one more group (others are white and Asian women) trying to steal their black men from them. Black women are the least likely to date outside their race and their dating pool has shrunk from, they believe, everyone taking their black men and too many black men in jail. This is a real thing. Of. course not all black women, but more than in other groups. They say the nastiest things about gay men while in the same breath bitching about racism. They do not see the two related at all to civil rights because the Bible says so.

[quote]Here is my thing, if the posts are hers, I could have forgiven her if she had just apologized and explained how those views no longer represent her and she is deeply embarrassed and ashamed.

For the umpteenth time, she did acknowledge she wrote some of those things that came out in December and she apologized for it. In December she also recognized her old blog had been hacked and the FBI now looks into the matter. She never would have called for an investigation if she had written the more explicit stuff herself, because the FBI will find out who wrote those posts and whether her blog was hacked into in order to manipulate her old posts.

As of now I tend to believe her and whatever her feelings toward gays were back then, she has changed, like so many people have in the last ten years.

As a democrat and being anti Bernie-Loons she is the perfect target for such a smear campaign, hence why idiots like Glenn Greenwald are involved slamming her.

by Anonymousreply 534April 25, 2018 8:28 PM

R531, Since #1 and #3 are viciously anti-women, that means women (and definitely lesbians) are on the bottom, too.

The only women that get media time or are presented as a fake "leader" are those that will not stick up for women and will support anti-women ideology/ideologies or industries.

by Anonymousreply 536April 25, 2018 8:35 PM

I wonder if MSNBC/Joy have a PR crisis team working this right now, including make posts to gay forums?

This entire thing seems very suspicious. She should substantiate her claims of being hacked with some actual evidence or at least have a highly respected cybersecurity firm investigate.

by Anonymousreply 537April 25, 2018 8:40 PM

She shouldn't, MSNBC should. It's a little odd that they're happy to sit back and let her hire loons rather than them do any investigating themselves.

by Anonymousreply 538April 25, 2018 8:44 PM

THere's no debate here.

1. Serious news sources like the NY Times, New York, even CNN are pointing out that her defense is wearing thin.

2. The Internet Archive reviewed her "evidence" and concluded there was NO hacking (and are open to re-visit if new evidence is provided.

Those of you who keep ignoring these facts simply don't want to admit that a liberal black woman can also be homophobic.

by Anonymousreply 539April 25, 2018 8:44 PM

Here’s what we know for sure:

One troll claiming to be a tri racial Brazilian “Bernie Bot” with recent “African Ancestry” spent all last night and all day today posting hundreds of times in 2 Joy Reid threads. If someone would willingly invest so much effort here. Then what have they done and what are they doing elsewhere.

How does that not seem fishy. How does the anonymous twitter source not seem fishy.

This is no doubt a coordinated right wing hit job.

R548, the point that the old blog archives were stored in multiple locations is proof to me. Or are you going to believe that the malevolent hacker tracked them all down, hacked each one, and made identical alterations to multiple posts?

by Anonymousreply 551April 25, 2018 9:13 PM

From The Atlantic. see r546

Furthermore, the Old Dominion computer scientist Michael Nelson scoured the other public records of Reid’s site to see if he could find evidence for the screenshots that @Jamie_Maz posted. Even without precise URLs, which makes it much easier to look up the records, Nelson was able to identify five matches in the various archives from the screenshots.

There is a small caveat, which is that these other copies probably used the Wayback Machine’s copies as their original source, even if they have stored them separately.

“Nonetheless,” Nelson wrote, “with multiple copies geographically and administratively dispersed throughout the globe, an adversary would have had to hack multiple web archives and alter their contents (cf. lockss.org), or have hacked the original site (blog.reidreport.com) approximately 12 years ago for adulterated pages to have been hosted at all the different web archives.”

First, Reviewing evidence submitted by Joy is not "speculative opinion;" it is actually a judgment based on facts provided.

second, it is not actually possible to PROVE the absence of hacking, only to say there is no evidence that it did.

R570 i'm on your side. but i also am a little aspie about truth and facts

technically, he said it's highly unlikely. you can't prove the absence of something. you can just say there is no definitie proof that something did occur. (it's kind of like in statistics when one says it's the probability that something is simply due to chance/random noise is less than 5% is NOT the same thing as saying the chance that it is true is 95%. it's something most people even math whizes dont' understand).

but i fully agree with his findings.

by Anonymousreply 574April 25, 2018 10:08 PM

R572, we are allowed to use common sense in evaluating evidence. Is it possible that the hack took place 12 years ago or that the hacker went to the effort to track down every copy of Reid’s blog and hack into them all? Sure. Is it more likely she’s lying? Certainly.

by Anonymousreply 575April 25, 2018 10:09 PM

God how moronic are you people????

What do you think "judgment" means? You evaluate evidence and pass judgment.

If you're ever in a court of law and the Judge or Jury finds you guilty based on the evidence, try telling them that "oh no, that's just SPECULATION!" I demand a retrial!

So they hacked her over a decade ago and have sat on it since waiting for this moment?

by Anonymousreply 598April 25, 2018 11:09 PM

From Joan Walsh:

1) So: Many people know I am close friends with @JoyAnnReid. Few of you know I was the first person to publish her, roughly 18 years ago. We didn't meet for at least a dozen years.

2) At Salon, I kept track of her work and read her blog, "The Reid Report," after that. In 2008, when we started our blogging platform "Open Salon," we asked our favorite contributors who had blogs to cross post with us. Joy did so and was immediately a huge hit.

3) Our editors monitored "The Reid Report" to see if she posted anything we wanted; sometimes we'd nudge her to cross-post, and she did.

4) Obviously, none of us ever saw the kinds of homophobic posts she's now accused of. If we had, we'd have stopped publishing her.

5) Interestingly, no one has come forward and said that they read any of this garbage in real time: "Oh hey, that Joy Reid was a real nightmare, can't believe she got published."

6) Also, to my knowledge, the offensive posts had no comments on them, while the posts she acknowledges had some lively comments debates.

7) Now, can I claim I read every word she posted? Of course not. But I did read it enough to know that she did not regularly reflect the attitudes she's accused of here.

8) Maybe most important, I write this to say: I've followed Joy's writing for @17 years. She did not appear out of nowhere, to me, and wind up with a television show. Some of her critics imply that. Which only shows their own isolation
