The queer masterpiece is going to the Oscars, except for Armie, who nevertheless jumped the gun and posed for this cover in a tux.

its beauty is unassailable.

"Brokeback Mountain" was a masterpiece.
Hammer was wooden. Chalamet looked too young. And the filem was slow as molasses.

[quote]"Brokeback Mountain" was a masterpiece
Brokeback Mountain bored me silly. I didn't care at all that it lost out at the Oscars. CMBYN is pretty boring, too, but at least it's beautiful to look at. The worst, though, is an awful Brit film called "God's Own Country" which might as well be in a different language, and is dull and dreary.

by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 8, 2018 12:28 PM |
It would be great if there was a sequel to CMBYN where Elio and Oliver compete for the love of a younger male.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 8, 2018 1:23 PM |
R13 I agree that there should be a certain amount of tension between Oliver and Elio when they reunite but I don't like the competition thing. I think it would be more interesting if Elio is happily partnered and Oliver is still married but not happily. Oliver is envious and jealous that Elio is leading the life he desires, and Elio is stuck in conflict over the power of first love and his present life.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 8, 2018 1:31 PM |
R13 and who would actor be that portrayed this love interest?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 8, 2018 1:32 PM |
I know Luca once mentioned something about Elio maybe going after a younger guy in the sequel.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 8, 2018 1:48 PM |
which actor would you select R16?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 8, 2018 1:58 PM |
R16 when did Luca say that? I only remember he mentioned Marzia and Elio having a son, that's all. R18 Thank you!

If you're not as angry as I am at the active attempts to keep [italic]God's Own Country[/italic] from getting the nominations it fucking deserves, and if you're not actively campaigning for the film to get the nominations it deserves and the theatrical exposure it needs, then you're part of the problem.
Loving movies means advocating for them and everything about them. Italy's war crimes are too horrific to ever be forgiven, and to honor an Italian director for drudging up offensive stereotypes about gays and Jews in the midst of a wide-ranging sexual harassment scandal over an English director who made a beautiful film about a consenting adult gay male relationship makes you complicit in their crimes against humanity.

There are a lot of young actors who could play that role. That's why it would be a good franchise, with a different one in every movie.

A bit of a non sequitur, but here's a video "recap" of another gorgeous coming of age film set in Italy: Stealing Beauty from 1996... with the stunning Liv Tyler in a breakout role. Although she's not at the same level as Timmy as an actor and her film career never went that far, she's certainly his female equal in terms of beauty.
The video is set to the lush sounds of George Michael's "Cowboys & Angels".
The guy at the 1:50 mark is the more arrogant and aggressive of two local brothers that Liv initially thinks she's in love with and wants to lose her virginity to.
But ultimately, she falls for the more sensitive "Elio-like" brother at 4:57 and they both lose their virginity together after a romantic afternoon in the Tuscan countryside.
