I personally think Armie is very much attracted to Timothée and may be vice versa. He seems to be almost always happy and in a good mood when Timmy is around. Spending months alone together in an Italian town can certainly do wonders. Timmy has certain beautiful feminine features that are irresistible, plus he has a very attractive and gentle personality.

It's about the culture not valuing women as they age and demanding that women uphold some impossible ideal of youthfulness in order to be seen as viable, both sexually and professionally. There is a tiny shift towards older actresses being allowed to be sexual beings - Kristen Scott Thomas, Helen Mirren, even Dame Judi - so maybe the Brits do it best. Btw, I thought Amira Casar in CMBYN looked beautiful at 47, in a part which wasn't very glam.

Most Italian and French relevant actresses are natural because the euro cinema aesthetics in general favors reality. Take for example the criticism and scorn that Carla Bruni faced in Europe, for what she has done to her face; and the praise and respect that on the other hand, generates her sister Valeria Bruni Tedeschi for being natural. Her relationship with much younger guys (Garrel for example) is not subject od scrutiny like it would happen in USA...

Same with Valeria Golino,another famous italian actress who's dating a very handsome famous actor way younger than her. Nobody would point out the age difference especially in terms of beauty. Monica Bellucci....she's still hot and despite the heavy make up you can see she has plenty of wrinkles and is aging perfectly,also dated a younger guy.

True, but those unfair standards are applied to any women in and around the entertainment industry, whether it's actresses or journalists or just the wives of producers. We know she has aspirations of hosting her own show or being some sort lifestyle guru - so that's one source of pressure. The fact that she's slightly older than her very hot husband, who has access to any number of gorgeous younger women if he wanted them, is probably the main source. But it seems likely that just being around those whose careers live and die around their looks, and where few older women are valued, was enough for her to look at herself at far too young of an age and think her face needed to be retooled. It's pretty sad. I can't imagine she actually needed any of it.

R19 I also believe the blind item is about Armie but probably embellished. He was on a plane when the Oscar noms were announced and we saw him out in Rome with Timmy, Luca and the wife that evening and he looked ok, but I'm sure he was upset. He campaigned hard for an Oscar nom.

Supporting Actor was very competitive this year anyway, and Hammer's performance (which I liked very much) wasn't "showy" in the way that Academy members like.

Other than THE SOCIAL NETWORK, has Hammer made any other films worth watching? Obviously LONE RANGER and MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. are to be avoided., as is that YOUNG BILL GRAHAM movie he made at the beginning of his career (Mom and Dad must have gotten him into that one). R37, the film Mine is worth checking out. It's nearly a one-man show, and Armie is well-cast in it. Also J. Edgar. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is surprisingly witty. But The Lone Ranger's rep as a trainwreck is well-deserved, IMO. The miscasting of Johnny Depp and his truly weird performance aside - the movie is too long and convoluted, there are issues with tone (is it for kids? Is it for adults?) and he and Armie have no buddy chemistry, which is a problem. It's too bad, because Armie looks good and was sort of made for that kind of hero role. But it just doesn't hang together.

Free Fall bored the fuck out of me despite being a fan of several of the actors, and Armie's role could have been played by anyone. I was not impressed by Birth of a Nation either, though there is some interest to seeing him in a more realistic kind of period role. I recently saw Final Portrait, and let's just say that I now understand why it's had distribution problems. He looks great but the movie is a mess. His truly solid films are few.

I saw many movie he was in without realizing he was in until his fame for Call me by your name, and in the roles he had in BOAN,Free fire and MFU I was impressed just like his his co.stars,no more no less. At the time I watched MFU I only knew Cavill but I remember being impressed by the blond actor but that's all. Same with TSN. I saw Final Portrait and despite its limits I loved it, his role is good but I'm biased for Geoffrey Rush whom i love no matter what. Tucci didn't do a great job but still,there are far worse movies sui generis and that was his first movie as director.

Mine is not my cup of tea,will never watch it. Lone ranger...Oh boy I downloaded it without knowing anything at all about the flop or controversy and trashed it after 20 minutes because of Depp,also not my cup of tea at all.

R41 I totally believe that Armie wants to "talent fuck" Timmy. What I mean by that is that he's in awe of and attracted to Timmy's talent as an actor. If Timmy presented hole to him, there is no question he'd thrust himself up in there. While I don't think anything has ever happened between them, I also wouldn't be surprised if years down the road one of them admits on ya we totally fucked at one point.

Armie does seem smitten with Timothée and Luca. I don’t mean physically or romantically, but as others have mentioned, artistically. Armie seems to have a side to him that wants to live a more avant- grade, free spirited, and sensual existence that both Timothée and Luca appear to exemplify.

For Armie, he might also be experiencing that feeling that all thirty-somethings go through when they see the generation behind them come of age and supplant them as the flavor of the moment. It makes you sort of envious of their youth and a bit sad that you don’t get a chance to do it over with the knowledge you have now. Besides, Timothée makes everything look so easy and effortless, whereas you get the impression that Armie really works at it to varying degrees of success. I also think they genuinely have a lot natural chemistry and enjoy each other’s company, which is a lot rather than it seems.

R59 He projects a lot into Tim and they both seem to be the only co-star they've worked with so far they have a connection way after the movie is done or promoted. I don't see Armie in touch with any actor he worked with in the past nor is Tim,at least not with such passion and genuineness. In 5 years Tim will be 27 and Armie 36 which levels a bit their age gap and it will be interesting to see if they are still friends and the dynamics of their friendship.

Luca and Timmy are about to start their BAFTA promo rounds in the UK.

They have obligations in California first. The Santa Barbara Film Festival on the 3rd (Timmy), the Oscar nominee luncheon on the 5th, Lady Bird Q&A on the 7th (Timmy) WGA Awards (don't know if they'll attend this or just Ivory).

I’m curious to see how these other Luca projects turn out. His biggest successes thus far have been ‘I Am Love’ and ‘Call Me By Your Name’, both very warm, sensual and Italian. I’m glad Oliver was played by an American actor, that’s part of the charm of the character. Armie was perfect as the sort of casual, but erudite American grad student studying abroad, sort of like a young William Hurt type that others have mentioned in past threads.

Armie's performance not being good enough is not the reason he didn't get nominated. Some people will insist it is, but no. The performance was highly acclaimed by critics, more so than some of the performances that did get nominated in that category.

1. The film simply wasn't beloved enough by the Academy. Also see Stuhlbarg missing, Luca missing, no cinematography nomination, no editing nomination. All acclaimed aspects of this film.

2. Splitting votes with Stuhlbarg.

3. Despite having a lot of screentime for a supporting performance, the role isn't very meaty. There's not a lot of opportunity to show off in the way the Academy likes. When I was trying to think of what his Oscar clip would be if he did get nominated, I really couldn't imagine what it would have been. I think the morning after scene is easily his acting highlight of the film but it's a silent moment in which Oliver is reacting to Elio, hardly an acting showcase or a monologue.

4. Young hunks like Armie often struggle to get nominated thanks to old, straight men making up the majority of the Academy.

5. For any idiot that did have an issue with the age difference, Armie would be the first one to suffer from that, playing the older lover.

I honestly don't think anyone would have got nominated for playing this role. Definitely not Jake Gyllenhaal who has been perpetually snubbed since his Brokeback Mountain nomination. Got BAFTA, Golden Globe and SAG nominated for Nightcrawler but missed Oscar. Got BAFTA nominated for Nocturnal Animals but missed Oscar. Had an acclaimed performance in an acclaimed film this year but still couldn't make a particularly weak Best Actor lineup over Denzel Washington in a film with 50% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Going back to some earlier conversation points from today that I missed..

Luca has spoke fondly of Elizabeth in the past. I believe I saw it in the SAG Q&A they did that's on YouTube. The video of the Crema Party where he hugs her from behind as well as her recollecting them doing face masks together suggests to me they get along just fine. Luca may appear artsy and pretentious at times but let's not forget he has a large interest in Armie Hammer and Dakota Johnson He seems to think that Armie is a more worthwhile actor than Timothée and cites Lone Ranger as being a big part of his initial interest in working with him. He named Alien Covenant and Split as two of his favorite films of 2017. His taste can absolutely veer towards the basic and I don't see any reason to believe he looks down on Elizabeth.

Likewise, I think her and Timmy are perfectly fond of each other. Let's be honest, most 22-year-old males when given the choice between chilling at a hotel and going shopping for baby clothes alone with your co-stars wife would choose the former. The fact that he chose the latter suggests to me that he likes her just fine. She does act very motherly towards him but that's not surprising to me considering she is a mother and there's even more of an age difference there than between Armie and Timmy. 13 years is a significant gap. And as was noted in the Timmy thread a few days ago, he seems to seek that kind of attention from women. Saoirse Ronan calls him 'pony' because he nuzzles her and Greta Gerwig whenever he sees them.

Armie does treat him like someone his own age and that's probably a big part of why Timmy likes him so much. I doubt he's used to that kind of respect from those older than him, especially people like Armie who have had established careers for years whilst Timmy is almost brand new.

When did Luca indicate that? I'm sure he favored Armie because he knew who he was from his prior high profile roles and having met him years prior. Timothee is a relative unknown that Luca had to be introduced though from the husband of Timothee's agent (someone correct me if I'm wrong here).

I don't think Luca favors either one, except for sex and in that case, it's Armie all the way.

I think that's very astute, r571. I think he likes the idea of getting the best performances out of those that have to work harder at it. Then again, he also favors Tilda, who can morph into any role and make it fully realized and believable with ease. It's kind of like appreciating high and low art, but not thinking less or more of either.

It's all very simple- Luca favours Dakota because she's his dear friend, and he favours Armie because he wants him badly.

R568 isolating a couple of moments can suggest many things, considering how Luca showcases his passion for people and how much Liz, above everybody else tried to infiltrate the movie to be in the front, without even being part of it I'd say he has LITTLE to none interest/admiration fo her. I'm sure they 'get along' fine, as in Luca has never done anything rude or disrespectful towards her, and there was effort made to include her during her time with Armie in Italy out of politeness. If Luca does harbor less-than-admiring feelings towards her, it's doubtful he'd make a public display of them, given how invested he is in Armie.
