So Ally Sheedy Was Live-Tweeting During The Golden Globes

And then she quietly deleted them. But rarely does something truly disappear from the interwebs.

What was she going on about?

Sounds like she was drunk texting some secrets?

But would Franco really be in a position to abuse her—isn’t she about 15 years older than him?

Any then she compares him to Christian Slater—is she saying that they’re both abusers?

by Anonymousreply 2January 8, 2018 11:24 AM

Imagine all the poor forgotten actresses who were home bitter watching.

by Anonymousreply 3January 8, 2018 11:25 AM

*drunk Tweeting some secrets

by Anonymousreply 4January 8, 2018 11:25 AM

Like Molly Ringwald, [R3]?

She had to watch a depressing Millenial reworking of one of her greatest films (“Pretty In Pink”) win a bunch of main awards, and she wasn’t even invited to the party....

by Anonymousreply 5January 8, 2018 11:28 AM

Vanity Fair has picked it up. Bye, James. 😢

by Anonymousreply 9January 8, 2018 12:04 PM

Are there seriously rumors that Franco harassed Ally Sheedy?!

That’s definitely one that I didn’t hear about on datalounge before...🤔

by Anonymousreply 11January 8, 2018 12:08 PM

I loved “The Disaster Artist”! Please don’t let Franco be a real creep ☹️

by Anonymousreply 12January 8, 2018 12:20 PM

Maybe she was referencing Franco propositioning s 17yr old and Slater once getting in trouble for domestic abuse, rather than talking about herself.

by Anonymousreply 13January 8, 2018 12:29 PM

I don't know, R13. In that first tweet, she seems to link Franco to her reason for leaving the business. This is not about a third-party incident.

by Anonymousreply 14January 8, 2018 12:34 PM

That would sound so minor though, [R13]. She was suggesting that Franco was why she “left the business”...

by Anonymousreply 15January 8, 2018 12:34 PM

I'm with R8... she's a mess.

by Anonymousreply 16January 8, 2018 12:36 PM

I don’t really care for smarmy Franco but I will admit he is more interested in gay film than every other major actor ever, so he gets points for that. To me he just plays Franco in every role so I don’t get the acclaim. Haven’t seen The Disaster Artist yet but I think it’s exploitative. Maybe the way Franco dips his toes in and out of the closet is exploitative too. If he wasn’t famous he’d probably identify as mostly straight but queer for attention.

by Anonymousreply 17January 8, 2018 12:40 PM

Yeah, I just commented on the other Franco thread about her saying “Why is a man hosting?” (the GGs) in that series of tweets.

That was just weird—what did Seth Meyers ever do to her?

by Anonymousreply 18January 8, 2018 12:41 PM

I read the tweet as saying that the honoring of men like James Franco was the reason she left the business, not that he himself was the reason. And, yeah, he's supposed to be a creep. She was out of show biz long before he came on the scene.

by Anonymousreply 19January 8, 2018 12:42 PM

Ally Sheedy hasn't been relevant since the late '90s with High Art.

by Anonymousreply 20January 8, 2018 12:44 PM

Seconding R19 -- that's what I thought, too. That the comment was being critical of the industry (i.e., "the industry rewards bad behavior, so that's why I left"), rather than her insinuating Franco had harassed her.

by Anonymousreply 21January 8, 2018 12:45 PM

“The Disaster Artist” was surprisingly good, [R17]. He really does not make fun of or exploit Tommy Wiseau (shockingly) and it becomes a warm hearted story about friendship that lacks any cynicism—really.

It’s weird to see something so sweet and hopeful in movies today, and I enjoyed the movie 100% more than I expected to.

I was stunned Franco directed it, since I’ve disliked all his past directing efforts and don’t really like him in general as an actor.

His acting here was great though as was his brother Dave’s.

I thought it was a great movie and I can’t explain how that happened with Franco at the helm and in the movie—but there it is...

by Anonymousreply 22January 8, 2018 12:47 PM

I felt bad for Tommy Wiseau. He calls him up on stage and then treats him like a non-entity. Then they all shuffle offstage and the poor guy slinks back to his seat.

by Anonymousreply 23January 8, 2018 12:49 PM

R20 I LOVE High Art.

And The Disaster Artist is a good movie. It's not another Franco/Rogen frat boy movie. It's very sweet. And Sharon Stone KILLS IT in her scenes as an aging indie actress who never made it big but loves the profession never-the-less.

by Anonymousreply 24January 8, 2018 12:50 PM

There have been rumors flying around town for a long time that Sheedy is unstable. Franco is no goody two shoes, but I don't believe Sheedy's hit-and-run ramblings for a second.

by Anonymousreply 25January 8, 2018 12:57 PM

Thanks for the great post, R22. I’ve heard great things about The Disaster Artist but until now I had no desire to see it. Too many pretentious, shitty movies directed by Franco for me to take this one seriously. And people have such obnoxious hero worship for the guy that I didn’t honestly believe that the hype was rooted in the film being genuinely good. I might actually check it out now.

by Anonymousreply 26January 8, 2018 1:08 PM

[quote]Imagine all the poor forgotten actresses who were home bitter watching.

by Anonymousreply 34January 8, 2018 1:33 PM

by Anonymousreply 35January 8, 2018 1:36 PM

by Anonymousreply 36January 8, 2018 1:38 PM

Im mostly surprised that anyone was following Sheedy on Twitter to notice/capture those Tweets in the first place.

by Anonymousreply 37January 8, 2018 1:40 PM

Poor James is getting raked on Twitter. There's no discernment anymore. Everyone is so eager to jump on the bandwagon. Like pitchfork-wielding villagers chasing after Frankenstein. (Francostein? Whatever. You get the picture.)

by Anonymousreply 38January 8, 2018 1:41 PM

James Franco is a serial predator who looks like he smells bad.

But he was in black wearing a pin so I guess it's all okay then!

by Anonymousreply 39January 8, 2018 1:44 PM

But really they gave Kirk a standing ovation, Franco won an award, and Gary Oldman was also there wearing a pin I think.

Nothing in Hollywood will ever change.

by Anonymousreply 40January 8, 2018 1:45 PM

Sheedy might be “unstable” and she could be telling the truth.

You dingbat, that wasn't Sharon Stone. Stone plays talent agent Iris Burton who signs Greg Sestero. The lady you're thinking of was Jacki Weaver.

I can't believe you got Sharon Stone confused with Jacki Weaver.

YouTube was practically built on shitting on The Room. Hopefully Tommy is taking all this in stride.

by Anonymousreply 47January 8, 2018 2:10 PM

Why are some of you acting like there's evidence Franco molested anyone? AFAIK he got caught flirting online with a 17yo which is no big deal.

I got sick of the Seth Rogan gang years ago but this metoo business has gotten so out of hand. It really is a witch hunt.

Prove me wrong and post actual evidence. Hell, are there even allegations other than Ally Sheedy's cryptic drunk tweets? Are allegations all it takes for the SJW mobs?

'Listen and believe' does not make sense with a world full of so many liars and attention whores. Sorry, feminism. I've met women. Like men, some of them lie for various reasons.

by Anonymousreply 48January 8, 2018 2:18 PM

by Anonymousreply 50January 8, 2018 2:23 PM

R40, you’re forgetting Anthony Anderson who was accused by two different women of rape long before the #MeToo movement. He was nominated for an award tonight and they kept cutting to close ups of him during Oprah’s speech.

Time’s only up when you’ve been exposed by The New York Times.

by Anonymousreply 51January 8, 2018 2:31 PM

OK R43 I stand corrected. All this time I was trying to figure out what role Jacki Weaver played lol. And i was secretly saying to myself wow Sharon's old now. OK, so JACKI killed it.

I don't remember Iris Burton, unless she was the one I thought was played by Melanie Griffith.

by Anonymousreply 52January 8, 2018 3:06 PM

You know, if she’s left the industry she’s got nothing to lose. So rather than tweeting about Franco (who I’m doubting she has been harassed by) she should just come out and tell everyone what happened to her.

by Anonymousreply 53January 8, 2018 3:09 PM

[quote]Sheedy might be “unstable” and she could be telling the truth.

Exactly. Remember a few years back when Lindsay Lohan said Jennifer Lawrence was one of Harvey's? Was she wrong? No.

by Anonymousreply 54January 8, 2018 3:33 PM

[quote]I don't remember Iris Burton, unless she was the one I thought was played by Melanie Griffith.

It's when Greg goes to an agent's office hoping to get representation and is quizzed by a pleasant-looking guy, then an older no-nonsense woman comes out, looks Greg over, asks about his frosted tips, then agrees to sign him. The woman is Sharon Stone.

Melanie Griffith is the acting class teacher earlier in the movie.

"she seems to link Franco to her reason for leaving the business"

Bitch please the business left her. She was always INCREDIBLY annoying - I will never forget one of her earliest interviews in which she bitched about doing a McDonalds commercial as a child because "I'm a vegetarian."

by Anonymousreply 59January 8, 2018 4:05 PM

Thanks for that 58. I want to see these ladies put the fire to these guys.

Sometimes woman might be acting crazy because living in this world, which is made by men, has driven them there.

Some of us old gays might understand the feeling.

by Anonymousreply 60January 8, 2018 4:24 PM

Did any other film directed by James Franco ever get major distribution? I remember being interested in seeing Bukowski but that film, along with many others have less than 100 ratings on IMDb. Are they coming out anytime soon?

by Anonymousreply 61January 8, 2018 4:26 PM

Lol, R49. How would we damn well know that? Why do YOU ‘know’ that? You seem very impresssionable and credulous.

R57, maybe re-reading before you post will help you better express yourself.

Huh? She signed a contract to do a nude scene in a non-speaking role and she's calling him out for... what?

by Anonymousreply 69January 8, 2018 5:31 PM

Hey, it's not like Franco won't do nude scenes and just exploits women. Seeing King Cobra and that bad porn movie proves that.

by Anonymousreply 70January 8, 2018 5:34 PM

I interpreted the tweets as general disgust at Hollywood rewarding creeps.

I also think Ally Sheedy is unstable but not wrong (Rose McG, Sinead, Janice Dickerson, et al).

Did she tweet anything about Kirk Douglas? He’s a thousand times worse than Franco!

by Anonymousreply 71January 8, 2018 5:38 PM

Who is that scary creature at R64, and why does she think that her incredibly close-up selfie of her massive head looks flattering?

by Anonymousreply 72January 8, 2018 5:41 PM

r67 Jonathan Demme wrote a shower scene into Silence Of The Lambs for Jody. They hauled that set around every fucking where in case they ever had time to fit it into a shooting day. There was context for it that I cannot remember now but the scene was entirely unnecessary.

I found out about it while working on a different Demme movie. A crew member who had worked on Silence told me about it. If I remember correctly the topic came up because Demme had written a masturbation scene into the movie we were shooting for one of the young actresses characters.

It's exploitation that straight men can't seem to resist in positions of some power. "I can make them do this. I just have to justify it." It's a shame that no one ever requires straight guys to grow the fuck up. So much fucking immature frat boy bullshit going on at all times.

by Anonymousreply 73January 8, 2018 5:56 PM

Want to see an awful James Franco film? watch Sonny (2002) where Franco plays (Big Surprise!) a prostitute who services men and women.

His mother (played super annoying by Brenda Blethen) pimps him out as she is a whole herself. Oh yeah this dumpster file of a film is the directorial debut of Nicholas Cage. (Wtf?) Cage also plays one of Franco's customers, reinforcing flamboyant gay stereotypes.

Who knows, maybe this film will reach Room/Showgirls type of awfulness. You never know.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 74January 8, 2018 6:03 PM

If you're going to make serious allegations, you should get out with it and stop with the bullshit vague-tweets and vague-booking. There's a difference between being sleazy and sexual assault. I'm sorry, but Franco has always been known to be making experimental and sexually-charged material. If you don't want the part, don't go for it. Having a bad work experience is not the same as sexual assault. Someone yelling at you from the director's chair isn't abuse. Getting your feelings hurt, or having regrets about doing something is not sexual assault/abuse. Enough already.

by Anonymousreply 75January 8, 2018 6:39 PM

R75 clearly doesn't know what the fuck she's talking about.

by Anonymousreply 76January 8, 2018 6:47 PM

I'm not convinced that Franco asking to sleep with a 17 year old (did he know how old she was? Is it illegal?) is worth killing his career over,

he didn't assault or force her at all.

by Anonymousreply 77January 8, 2018 6:56 PM

r76 yeah they do. I totally agree with r75 except the part about yelling from the director's chair.

by Anonymousreply 81January 8, 2018 7:57 PM

R75 Agreed. Passive-aggressive messages of any kind are annoying, but blasting them out to 1000s of your following with no explanation is even worse. "Never ever ask me why I left the film/TV...." Who was asking you, actually? Of course, on the other hand, James Franco wearing his "TimesUp" pin and black tux on stage, not knowing his career is taking a torpedo, makes it kind of delicious.....The smell of two-faced flop sweat in the evening......

by Anonymousreply 82January 8, 2018 8:06 PM

I know Franco. Sent him a script a few years ago thru his best friend from high school. He's a complete fraud and complete creep.

Literally every other sentence out of his mouth is "I'm an artist, so ..." or "As an artist ..." or "When you're an artist like me, " .... blah blah blah.

When he's not doing that he's asking the waitress if she's an actress and who her agent is ....... naturally in Hollywood, every waitress says she is an actress and he gets their phone number or email before the end of the meal or drinks or whatever.

by Anonymousreply 83January 8, 2018 8:33 PM

The whole golden globes was ridiculous. Oprah being lauded for that speech makes me barf. Times not up for sexual predators. How can that be when they just honoured Kick Douglas FFS. Maybe some bigwigs in Hollywood have to be little less skeevy with actresses for a while but the foreign maid working for $7 an hour at the producers/actors/directors mansion is probably still getting groped regularly. Let’s not get carried away that anything is changing.

A whole bunch of actresses in super expensive black dresses probably made in the third world by women working 14 hour days for next to no money was absurd. Being in solidarity just with other rich women isn’t a thing.

Hollywood is all smoke and mirrors. I ain’t buying what they’re selling.

by Anonymousreply 84January 8, 2018 9:16 PM

R2 no, she didn't sound drunk but positively pissed off and baffled by the whole thing.

And yes, it would appear she knows a side of Franco we have no idea about.

by Anonymousreply 85January 8, 2018 9:19 PM

R51 what? I had never heard that about Anderson.

It's an impossible situation - I'm sure many of these allegations of awful conduct are true; some are probably inflated but still bad, while a smaller amount are probably off base. But, they are usually just allegations, so what do you do? Obviously you treat it on a case by case basis, but still, there seems to be this rush to either (1) treat them all with the same level of certainty in that the guy did it, or (2) dismiss the seriousness of ALL of the cases and the issue generally because a few don't meet the smell test. Neither is a good thing.

by Anonymousreply 86January 8, 2018 9:20 PM

Thank you R84. God, people are dumb. Can they not see through that shit? Of course, it was gonna play this way, and it did. But the game ain't over.

by Anonymousreply 87January 8, 2018 9:20 PM

There's evidence he ran an acting class. Ask his students what went on there.

by Anonymousreply 88January 8, 2018 9:23 PM

Again, R84. No skin off Hollywood to just put on some costumes... All the creeps who've been cautious only ever grope/worse those who cannot defend themselves (foreign, illegal, poor, etc)

Those who are being called out now are the extra super obvious that are easy to drop.

by Anonymousreply 89January 8, 2018 9:23 PM

Did they bang?

by Anonymousreply 90January 8, 2018 9:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 93January 8, 2018 10:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 95January 8, 2018 10:36 PM

The whole country hangs on these dumb award shows like they're going to bring social justice for everyone or they're a referendum on fairness. What a joke. People are dumb. The first comments on one of Ally's tweets was James wouldn't let Tommy speak, he's an immigrant. An immigrant like the 200,000 Salvadorans facing deportation or an immigrant like a man who self financed a 6 million picture and insists he's from New Orleans? For all we know they rehearsed it like that. I didn't need Tommy to say anything. No one called Tonya Harding on stage.

by Anonymousreply 96January 8, 2018 10:43 PM

by Anonymousreply 114January 24, 2018 6:41 PM

"Sheedy might be “unstable” and she could be telling the truth."

But Sheedy isn't "telling" us anything. She is hurled some extremely vague spitballs in Franco's direction that serve merely as confirmation bias to the, granted, many people who don't like James Franco that James Franco once did something bad, sometime in the past. I get not liking or respecting Franco, but that doesn't mean he raped someone.

R105 Are you sure that's not Gloria Vanderbilt?

I liked Ally Sheedy in the Breakfast Club BEFORE Molly Ringwald gave her that makeover.

Did she explain herself afterwards?

I got the impression that she just meant that she didn't want to be in a business where creeps like Franco -- who is marginally talented and a dilettante -- can be so lauded. I get that. She worked with him, and might have thought that he was all smoke and mirrors, yet his star continues to rise. That would disgust me, too. It might not have anything at all to do with sexual behavior; at least I didn't take it that way.

We just watched “St. Elmo’s Fire” the other day. It does NOT hold up. Awful, awful movie.

Among other unbelievable plot points was that the Ally Sheedy character had two men desperately in love with her.

LOL, it's true, St. Elmo's Fire is a weak tea movie in retrospect, and at the end movie resolves the Sheedy love triangle by her just saying, "Let's all just be friends again." And they all go have a beer.

Sure, that works in real life.

So surprised to hear Franco proclaimed a (straight) lech, always thought he was practically out. Half-heartedly “dating” one of his sister-in-law’s friends sealed it for me.
