R5 I don't think Armie floundered at all, only in some of the kissing scenes. In the peach one he seemed reluctant and in the last kissing scene too. In some of the scenes he was a bit subdued but I think that was the right tone for the film.

I've seen the film four times now and I see some birthing issues in Chalamet's acting. Hammer definitely has the advantage of being in the biz longer and it clearly shows. His delivery is much more confident while you can sometimes see the metronome working in Chalamet's head. One of his lines is botched ("I'm sick, aren't I?") and at one point his face reacts two full seconds before Hammer delivers his line ("How come you never wear it?"). However, that's still [italic]very[/italic] impressive for his age.

I didn't notice any reluctance whatsoever on Hammer's part when it came to kissing. And I'd be the first to move on this issue like a bitch as I don't particularly like Hammer as a person. He's professional enough so he would never let this hesitation show on screen.

All in all, they were nice performances but definitely neither transformative nor transcendent in any way. So I don't get why they're being considered as Oscars contenders.

What an ugly ass face. But Luca Guadagnino had to make up for Armond being so fucking old. Their looks had to be balanced out.

How were his kisses in Lady Bird? I've seen some leaked footage and it looked like that's just the way he kisses. Then again, I haven't seen the full movie. I don't really have a problem with it tbh. I thought it was very sexy in CMBYN; the kissing scenes were a perfect balance between erotic, inexperienced and deeply tender, even if there wasn't a close up of open mouth and visible tongues. The last kiss between Oliver and Elio reminded me of all those kissing scenes in classic melodramatic movies where one body completely envelopes the other, which I think is a beautiful way to embody the whole exchange/sharing of identities theme of the book.

He went for the kisses in CMBYN far more than he did in Lady Bird, which is true to both characters.

If his agent and publicist were smart they'd have him pull out of any promo for the WA film and release a statement saying he was naive and ignorant but the #MeToo movement has caused him to regret it.
