R357 Don't know about that. If they cast Connor, they know what they know what's he good at from his earlier works. I am guessing they are gonna take Tyler in a bit different direction than the comics/Hulu version. Will probably write Tyler as more sensitive and less brutish for the Netflix version. We'll see.

He was amazing in American Crime season two. He portrayed a closeted gay teen perfectly, with all the physical and emotional restraint that comes with the territory. But he was never overtly sensitive or submissive. He invested the character with a lot of emotional strength.

Just read 4 out of 6 books of this graphic novel series over the weekend... It's pretty good material for a show, and Connor will have no problem playing Tyler Locke. It's interesting, and maybe quite telling, that pretty much ALL of the info which allows us to piece together the Connor/Miles relationship has come from Connor, not from Miles. Starting with his 'Miles Meowz' Insta and culminating in his New Year "us entering 2019" post. Referring to himself and Miles as "us" is an obviously couply thing to do and makes it pretty clear that he knows that his followers know that the two of them are indeed an item. The fact that he also added the two love-hearts (for 'love is in the air') pretty much eliminates any possible doubt.

BUT this is the first of Connor's posts for some while that Miles hasn't commented on, just a like.

Miles has a vastly higher social media profile (3.5M Insta followers Vs 18K for Connor) and it seems likely that his agent/manager/whoever has warned him to be super discreet... with the implication that to be officially Out would be damaging for his career, which is quite depressing for a young actor in 2019, and particularly for an actor who makes no secret of his obsession for Drag Race etc., and talks in interviews about the gay clubs he visits etc.

Well, they pretty clearly had been dating but had split up (with an abrupt end to their previous mutual stream of social media togetherness) by the time Miles' rep put out this statement. So it seems like maybe Miles (and/or his reps) got burned by that experience with the media and everything is now more removed or cautious.

Miles is a very specific type of actor (i.e. pretty/effete/emo) and that's always going to be the set of criteria that define the roles he's offered. I don't think that being publically/officially Out would damage those job opportunities in the slightest, in fact, I imagine the publicity would make him a more interesting prospect and doubtless result in a flood of interview requests to get things rolling.

The 13 Reasons production is certainly not going to object to it and nobody is asking the likes of Ezra Miller, Ben Wishaw, Troye Sivan, Russell Tovey, Jonathan Groff etc., whether coming out damaged their flourishing careers.

13 reason why cast must be one of the gayest cast ever (for a non specifically gay show). If you are a good actor with a good reputation coming out is not such a burden (unless you want to be an A list actor playing blockbusters). Of course there are a lot of gay actors who are perfectly believable on straight roles (Brandon Flynn is one of them to chose someone on the same show). But playing gay roles is not a problem if you are able to do very different characters. I remember Alfredo Krauss (the spanish tenor) who said that he knew he didn't have the best voice, but he chose carefully the operas he played and he gain fame at being really good at what he was doing.

I think Miles doesn't have the same range Connor has, but he is getting roles anyway (Connor's fellow Joey Pollari is an amazing actor but he seems having some trouble getting roles, even before coming out)

Miles has a hugely higher social media profile than Joey Pollari, but, as a case in point, I think that publically coming out has given Joey's career and profile a boost and has dramatically increased the number of interviews that he's been offered, for instance. The same could be said for his fellow Love Simon alum, Keiynan Lonsdale, both of them are much more "current" than they would have been before coming out, and with even Lucas Hedges' making his "sexuality is a spectrum" announcement the whole argument about young male actors having to remain publically closeted now seems pretty moot from a career point-of-view.

Connor is in a different position altogether. He is a more versatile actor, for sure, but is (probably) now only using acting gigs to allow him to pursue/fund his real love, which is directing. I guess his being cast as the lead in Locke and Key might (possibly?) also have an impact on what he feels he can say or do in the public arena regarding his sexuality, at least until the show actually airs, although, again you would hope not and that the timing of those decisions are purely to do with personal choice.

I hope you are right, Joey Pollari is a good actor and he deserves a better career.

Sure, there’s all kinds of ways they could have met being in the same industry, but Connor lives in Toronto and hasn't seemed to be focusing much on acting in the last couple of years (though he was just cast in a show), so I’m still kind of surprised to see him dating a Hollywood actor, and someone he hasn’t worked with.

Actually, I see I'm out of date on the filming location. The previous pilot for Hulu was going to be shot in Nova Scotia but filming for Netflix starts in Toronto (handy for Connor!) on 4th Feb and will run through to June 19th. Maybe the Costa Rica trip is a holiday before heading into 5 months of work.
