So I was binge watching Hannibal ( the series, yes I know I'm late to the party) and Hannibal is depicted as bisexual. Then I rewatched the movie Hannibal ( the bad one with Julianne Moore) and there is one scene between him and Mason Verger before Mason's disfigurement when Mason opens the door wearing leather fetish gear and starts to do autoerotic asphyxation in front of Dr.Lecter assuming that Hannibal is into things like that. Was his sexuality ever discussed in the books?

In one of the books—Silence of the Lambs?—we first meet him reading Vogue magazine. He quotes Truman Capote to Clarice, and he tells the Senator, the woman whose daughter has been kidnapped, that he “loves her shoes,”or something like that. He’s gay. It’s not said directly, but we can take a hint. (The fact that all of his victims are male is also a tell).
Written after the success of Lambs, the next novel, ghastly Hannibal, tried to straighten him out.

He was a psychiatrist so therefore he was confused about himself, period.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 16, 2018 3:57 AM |
like many sociopaths, Lecter was whatever was necessary at the time.
how else ya gonna make a meal, eh?

'Mason, would you like a popper?'

I knew a girl named Hannah Blecter and she was straight.

It adds up psychologically.
My guess is that the higher, male sex drive means there are more kinky men willing to accept sadistic, BDSM treatment from a psychopath like Lecter than women, so guys like Lecter would accept them.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 16, 2018 5:19 PM |
The book implies that Lector was involved in BSDM with Benjamin Raspail and possibly Jame Gumb.

He wants to fuck Will Graham so badly.

[quote]However, the show subverts that paradigm by using heterosexual erasure and Lee Edelman's vision of negative futurity to promote a more positive queer perspective.
I'm all for hetero erasure at every possible opportunity!

Sure the Hannibal series was damn homoerotic, but still Hannibal was shown engaging in sex with women and never with men.
I know from interviews Mads Mikkelsen/Hugh Dancy threw in some super-gay takes of their final scene together just in case Fuller wanted to use it and go more explicit, but he didn't.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 25, 2018 8:30 PM |
I don't think NBC would go for explicit gayness.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 25, 2018 8:45 PM |
I thought it was implied that Will and Hannibal were lovers when Bedelia asked Will if his wife knew how intimate he was with Hannibal.

Bryan Fuller has recently said that watching Killing Eve made him realize he has to seriously up the stakes when it comes to homo stuff in the possible next season of Hannibal.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 25, 2018 8:56 PM |
r13 I'm pretty sure that's not true anymore in 2018.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 25, 2018 8:56 PM |
They wouldn't even show butt cracks on Hannibal. They were always blurred out.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 25, 2018 8:58 PM |
I hope Amazon or Netflix picks up a fourth season.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 26, 2018 12:44 AM |
Bryan Fuller has quit/been fired from 3 series since Hannibal right?
That is going to make networks even more nervous about getting in business with him unfortunately.

I haven’t seen a single episode of Hannibal and only know of Mads from his role in Doctor Strange. He’s weird looking, but I suppose he could be sexy in a Rufus Sewell/Chris Walken/Michael Wincott sort of way. Has he had any scenes in Hannibal or any other project where he appears shirtless and/or actually makes out with a man? Because otherwise, I’m not interested.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 26, 2018 6:29 AM |
We will be sure to let him know. Of course he will be devastated.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 26, 2018 6:38 AM |
Hannibal Lecter is a homosexual? No wonder he eats ass.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 26, 2018 6:42 AM |
Mads appears shirtless several times. He has a manly hairy chest. There are a couple of scenes where's he nude with his dick strategically covered.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 26, 2018 2:16 PM |
Also a blurred out butt crack scene when he's tied up by Mason Verger.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 26, 2018 2:49 PM |
In Red Dragon, it’s seriously implied that he dated Taylor Swift. So, um...
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 26, 2018 3:00 PM |
For the dunce at R25, it was Olivia Munn, actually.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 26, 2018 3:43 PM |
He should have eaten them both.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 26, 2018 4:07 PM |
Well. Thanks for those, r28 & r29. He’s a’ight. Kind of a blocky, stiff build. Very reminiscent of a young Rutger Hauer.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 26, 2018 5:13 PM |
Not that young. Mads is 52.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 26, 2018 9:06 PM |
Yeah I laughed at the "young" description as well when he is very much a middle-aged man. Though I am sure Mads appreciates you saying that.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 26, 2018 9:32 PM |
Mads started out as an acrobat and a dancer.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 27, 2018 3:30 AM |
.Mads was sexy as hell in his early Danish films.

Bryan Fuller said if there had been a fourth season of Hannibal it would have focused on Hanniibal and Will's relationship.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 27, 2018 4:29 AM |
It really sucks Fuller isn't doing the Vampire Chronicles anymore. Anyone know what happened there?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 27, 2018 4:38 AM |
He chose to leave. I don't think a reason was given.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 27, 2018 4:57 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 29, 2018 3:42 AM |
I've read all the books. In one of them, he lured Mason Verger into a bondage scene which led to Mason's disfigurement. In the last book Lecter has brainwashed/entranced Clarice into running away with him in a presumably sexual relationship. Then there was that weird book and film that explored his childhood in which he seduces a Japanese woman, but I've forgotten much of that one because it was so dreadful. Lecter is beyond hetero- or homosexuality; as a poster above mentioned, he's a psychopath who morphs into whatever the scenario calls for.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 29, 2018 4:39 AM |
A lot of dialogue from the books that was spoken between Hannibal and Clarice was used for Hannibal /Will scenes in the series.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 29, 2018 5:23 AM |
He's definitely straight. He takes me to all the psychiatrist award shows.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 29, 2018 5:49 AM |

[quote]Fuller opted to step back from the project rather than step on the toes of longtime friends Anne Rice and her son, Christopher Rice, who penned the original script.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 29, 2018 10:14 AM |
He was completely heterosexual in the books. He and Clarice embark on a world tour and fuck their way through it.

I've started watching RED DRAGON. God, it's shit. Ed Norton is completely miscast as Graham. He looks like a little boy with his died blonde hair.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | August 1, 2018 9:24 AM |
R2 - In the film, Hannibal says to the (female) Senator, "Love your suit!" because he's alluding to Buffalo Bill's plans to sew together a "girl suit" out of all the victims' skin!
by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 1, 2018 9:36 AM |
The series wasn't allowed to use any characters that originated in Silence of the Lambs. Will Graham essentially took the place of Clarice Starling.
