NPH does look older than he is, but being thin will do that, as will smoking, drinking, drugging, and excessive sun exposure. I have no idea which of these things he engages in however.

I agree that he looks deeply unhappy in most of the recent photos. Even in stills from his most recent late night talk show appearance, he looks like he's straining to put on a fake smile.

I hope he doesn't have HIV. According to the CDC, 1 in 102 white men (in the US) can expect to contract HIV in their lifetimes. The numbers are significantly higher for black men, and the gay and bisexual male population is still inordinately effected compared to hets.

I looked at the photo of NPH and he looks fine. I've only known NPH to look to thin, for past few years, so I cannot comment on his apearance. He needs to cut out processed food for starters.

He doesn't eat. He's always been very thin, and he is clearly the type who eats like 800-1200 calories a day. "Poz face" is a thing of the past. Old protease inhibitors did that. None of the new drugs do that...or nobody would be on Truvada for Prep. Some men who facial wasting were even covered by insurance to get sculptra and the early fillers (though most insurance stopped coverage in the early-00s)... I'm sure he could afford any filler he wanted if he was afraid he had a "poz face look".

That look also has fat loss in very specific areas that are different from aging. It's like a weird fat loss right under the cheekbone, and in very deep unnatural grooves. He has more of an aging look than the lipoatrophy look.

That being said - Rupaul looked quite bad many years ago - and it was very much like the true lipoatrophy pattern (could be drugs though, but it wasn't a classic aging pattern). He's also very skinny, but his face is looking better likely due to fillers. Actually,he's joked about fillers a lot - which most black men don't typically need due to thicker facial skin and more facial fat than white men.

Regardless of the issue of whether or not "poz face" is real, there's no denying that many people in the advanced stages of a serious illness look like NPH did on that show: old beyond their actual age with sagging skin, baggy clothes unable to cover a skeletal frame, and the gray pallor of death.

Well Burtka's show only made it to the pilot stage. No additional episodes but he turned up this weekend on The Kitchen, looking a fright. He's stopped dyeing his hair and it's gray and aging. The skin had that pallor of death he shares with NPH. Standing next to beautiful Jeff Mauro, David looked like some creature that had just risen from the grave.

So maybe they both are ill.

He started to go downhill after the Oscars. He was also photographed outside his house screaming at the kids. He is likely just stressed the fuck out like most gay people after they hit the 40. And it's true you choose your ass or your face at some point. I just lost 20lb over the course of 4 months and I know I look more haggard because of it. My curse was that I always looked really young for my age and enjoyed it, now that I'm looking my age it's hard to take.
