Can someone briefly explain why Shannen Doherty has this megabitch reputation?

I'd always heard that there were bigger bitches on the set of 90210. Jenny Garth and Tori Spelling were much worse but Shannen got the reputation.

R3, that's exactly what I heard. Someone on this forum even said they worked on the set of Charmed and they said Shannen was a bitch only if it was called for but Milano was just a straight-up bitch and would steal your boyfriend to piss you off. And for what its worth, Jenny Garth and Shannen are friends now. Also, Tiffany Amber-Thiessen who replaced Shannen on 90210, said that none of the women on the set of the show were nice to her. She became close to Garth later and their friendship ended because of something Jenny did (she said this on Howard Stern, she wouldn't clarify what it was).

IIRC, Emma Caulfield and/or Vanessa Marcil also said that Garth was a bitch on set and was upset any time a new female cast member was added.

R5 yes. Shannen was known on set to get along with most everyone. The bitch on set was Alyssa. After Shannen left most others that were left behind wished Alyssa was the one to leave.

Also with regard to the Charm thing... Shannen is called a bitch because she won't ever take shit from anyone. If someone starts something with her she will fight right back. Alyssa is a bitch because she's the one starting stuff... constantly.

Several of the writers and crew complained that while Shannen was on the show, she constantly asked for rewrites and was always saying that the show had to go in this direction or that. They were all a little miffed at it... but after she left, they all agreed that they realized she actually knew what she was doing. The same staff that complained about her realized that without her involvement, the story lines were getting crazy and campy.

It's interesting to see that a lot of people site that after Shannen left, the storylines became ridiculous (even moreso than they already were).

I think I've told this story on here before, but it's worth telling again. She's shot a couple of those Lifetime made for TV movies in my hometown. This was after she had left Charmed; can't remember how long it had been. Anyway, imagine my surprise when out for lunch one day my friends and I spotted her come in with some people and take a seat. Knowing the stories about her reputation, I really debated going up to her. But I thought, fuck it. Do it. I approached with caution and was immediately rewarded. I told her I was such a fan of hers on Charmed and how it wasn't the same without her. She said (and it sounds bitchy now, but I swear it was charming, no pun intended) "Then you shouldn't watch anymore". Anyway, she talked for a few minutes and we took a photo. She's cool in my book.

I looked through her Instagram a few weeks ago and she seems to have many steadfast friends from different periods of her life, so I'd say she must be a really nice person to have in your corner.

But that's the thing. She wasn't hated by the casts and two shows.

After she left 90210 she got still hung out with and got along with everyone but Garth. As far as Charmed the only one she had an issue with was Milano.

Now in those two cases you also look at the people she had beef with... both Garth and Milano are people that everyone else also have problems with.

I thought she was disliked by Luke Perry on 90210 and he insisted that their characters break up. Which happened and killed the show.

I remember hearing that too. I preferred the Brenda/Dylan pairing more than Kelly/Dylan. Even the very brief Dylan/Toni pairing was better than Dylan/Kelly.

I thought i read that Luke would not brush his teeth on purpose when he had to kiss Doherty. I liked both pairings but by season 3 both Kelly and Brenda should have told Dylan to go fuck himself.

I imagine the bitchy reputation was well deserved; however, she's older now and hopefully much more mature. I've been watching her interviewed throughout the week on Entertainment Tonight and she seems thoughtful and genuine.

I think she was just as bad as her co stars but she was an easy target

R55 I've been watching those interviews. I think she has probably matured and mellowed out. I think she is still friends with most of her 90210 co-stars. The one 90210 cast member that has been reported not to remain friends with anyone is that old lady Gabrielle Carteris.

I have always been a Shannen apologist, and this makes me really sad. Both 90210 and charmed sucked after she left, and I don't think that is coincidence.

I know her cousins to Chris Foufas, someone she used to date back in her "hell raising" days - she was definitely a handful then, though tbh it all sounded very typical of someone who get very famous young and partied a lot - which they almost all do.

She really seemed to have gotten over herself fairly quickly though and in any interviews post 90210 she always seemed self aware with a healthy sense of humor and friendly. I've always heard that she was good to fans even in her heyday. And she seems to keep friends from different points in her life for a long time - famous, not famous, sort of famous - I think that's always a good sign. She seems "real," and I've always liked her.

Sad for her now. And I hope for the best but it really doesn't sound good. At the peak of her 90210 fame I thought she was extremely pretty ... Then it's like her features realigned, or something weird. But she still could look good when she wanted to.

I hope she continues to speak publicly. It's interesting to hear what she has to say and I actually don't think she is a publicity whore. But her story will help people - it's a cliche but true.

There's a great interview on Howard Stern where Shannen talks about it R65. She comes off really well in the interview and never says anything bad about Paris nor does she take the bait when Howard tries to bring up the sex tape (which was with Shannen's ex-husband). If I remember the rumor was that Shannen and Paris got into a fight at a club but Shannen denied it happened.

R68 that's a very pretty picture and she's almost 40 there. Always had good cheeks. Really, it's just the eye thing that's off. Oh, and the teeth. When you distract from those two things she always looked quite striking.
